You get a chance.

Nick Kiprios, Justin Bourne, Sammy McKee.
Jake the Snake Shultz, Derek Brandeo, with you for the fastest hour in hockey.
We are condensed a little bit today.
A lot of it.
Based on your Toronto Blue Jays who came up huge.
Was that any good?
Runs, you want runs.
We'll give you runs, Seattle.
I, it's just in awe of last night.
It's not have been any more fun.
Like, there's just certain things as sport fans, sports fans, you don't get to experience very often.
And having a first ballot Hall of Famer in the twilight of his career scream in the umpire's face to,
in his manager's face to leave me in the game and then strike out Randy a Rose Arena.
That's pretty much as good as it gets.
Awesome.
So yeah.
Speaking of screaming in a few minutes, we'll welcome in Doug McLean,
off the rails Friday.
Former NHL president, GM, head coach.
Got to remind you everybody that this hour of Real Kipperman Bourne brought to by
bet 365 of course and plenty to get into uh including some key canadian games last night so sammy
how did how did it work between your dark basement oh it was dark it was gingy last night you know
your focus on the leaves i assume that you did your your post game show last night with jd uh jd was off
last night.
Me and my boy Guns did it last night.
So I would say that it was,
there's a few technical difficulties,
which we rarely ever have.
I wasn't locked into, at least I was.
Like I said, I put the sound on.
It was on for an hour and a half prior.
I had the sound on.
The computer was watching it and had the Jay's on TV, no sound.
But I went in and did Lee's talk,
didn't look at my phone.
And then I asked the producers to tell me what the score of the game was
at the end of the show.
And they said it's 5-1, and I had left and it was 3-1.
I was excited.
it was nice and then went back into the torture chamber.
But yeah, it was hard to focus, though, right?
Let's be honest.
I really care about the Leafs, bud.
And, like, I want them to win.
And, like, I do watch that, too.
Like, I'm locked into Leafs.
I care about Leafs.
If I may give you a pass.
Yes.
Kip, you were at the Leafs game last night.
I was.
It sounds like there was a rise from the crowd when Jimenez hit the two-run.
Oh, totally.
No, no, no.
The loudest cheers were for the Js.
Now, you're on it.
I wasn't actually in the building.
I actually ended up in the war room.
Oh, you did.
King and a few of the guys there, great staff.
To watch them work was pretty cool.
So I just...
Was it you who overturned the call in New Jersey?
Yeah.
Was it?
That was a good call, though.
You got that one right?
Yeah, there was a few questionable ones, right?
But it was fun, and I think you're going to go visit them soon too.
I sure like to.
That's part of the plans, yeah.
Yeah.
They don't want me in there.
No, you can come there too.
I've been whining about officiating for my entire life.
They know Sam, yeah, I bet.
I bet they do is right.
So I also got a chance to see next door to the NHL war room is our NHL alumni room too.
So Glenn Healy has built a castle there.
Yeah.
Really?
Yes.
Meso glazed cod and all the rest.
No, it's really cool.
A couple Sapporo's mixed in there.
Yes, a couple, a couple.
But this is just for those of watching maybe across the country or wherever you're picking it up,
any NHL alumni if you're ever in the area
it's your home those are your doors
now I played one exhibition
anytime I don't think my one exhibition game's gonna get me in
can I get a sandwich you throw me one under the door I can roll
something to you can I ask you quick like I guess this
is an extremely stupid question but I'm gonna ask it anyway
like do you have a card that's like I am an alumni like I can
scan here or like I just I am an alumni you know that I played in the league
because of my name how does it work
Brody, who works in the office, showed me yesterday these platinum cards that we're getting,
and I'm going to have a number that when I signed my NHL contract,
you're assigned a number.
I don't know what that number is.
They're tracking down all the numbers, and I will be a number.
All right.
You're not just a number to me, Kimball.
Nicely done, Sammy.
nicely done so it sounds like a fun night uh okay a couple things we're gonna get into uh quickly
before we get to doug mcclain but just uh uh two particular games winnipeg's doing
winnipeg things and that stock still good mark mark schifley
if you guys did this to me right now i'd probably you know give it to you but i'm gonna do
it well okay no just hold that thought in yeah in in the in the in if we were to
now start who could be running for an MVP
award in five games
Mark Shifley to me has started something
and I think he's going to see it through all season long
I'm telling you Mark Shifley for me will be in the running
not only will he make it next impossible for them to keep him off
team Canada but he will be running for an MVP by the end of the year
so funny you say this
Up on Sportsnet.ca in about three, four hours.
I wrote sorting team Canada's player options for the 2026 Olympic Games into tiers.
Six tiers I've got.
I've got locks.
I've got very likely.
I've got probable.
I've got maybe outside shot and no chance.
So I took the 42 guys who were at their orientation camp in late August.
And then I added about six or eight other names.
So almost 50 names I sorted into these six categories.
The only guy on the list of very likely who wasn't on the team last year that I have is Mark Shifler.
And let's see if I can find what I wrote here.
Just, you know, this guy, super competitive guy, puts up point totals,
contribute offensively.
He's a veteran, a pro.
He's a perfect bet.
He's peak right now.
Yeah.
He's just peak.
Meaning that he is, he's all set for a career.
year he's set to lead these guys he is the face he is the heart the pulse yeah listen to uh
kyle connor talk about him and just you know if there's if he had a short window or short list
of reasons why i'm resigning in winnipeg besides 12 large sheets a year shifley would be right
underneath that i yeah totally on board with that i mean he makes all the difference for them
If you, you should, you should bet on that if you think that's going to happen
because I just quickly had to look, I just quickly had to look at, uh, bet 365, our beloved
bat 365.
Is this, is this game time?
No, but just, this is a bonus one.
He is plus 30,000 to win that, uh, just behind Kareil Marchenko and just ahead of
Elias, Elias Pedersen.
So behind.
They're not, that's the first time you've heard it.
There you go.
What, uh, there's no.
to make Team Canada.
No, no.
All right.
Bouchard?
Original.
Oh, Bouchard.
Okay.
Yeah, all right.
Let's go to Bouchard.
You said Bouchard,
a couple of giveaways last night.
Really?
One, two, Barzell, that,
yeah,
not pretty.
So I don't want to use up
all our clips or anything
before we get to Doug.
Well, we're going to do text
and stop after Doug.
It's fine.
We'll have lots, we'll have lots to get to.
Ooh.
Text 590, 590?
I will say,
You know, Chris Knoblock, and I want to call him Chuck Knoblock every time so badly.
I know.
Great Minnesota Twins.
I wouldn't exactly say he's the most electrifying personality.
No, and that's part of his appeal as a coach, right?
He's steady.
Evan Bouchard was so bad last and he had got him to say something interesting.
No.
Yeah.
So let's play it.
Chris Knobloch on Evan Bouchard from last night.
Sorry, what did you make about Bouchard's game tonight?
I've seen Evan play better.
Is it a situation where you just?
to sometimes take the bad with the good with them or can you clean some of that up in his
attempt to obviously come no it's not we cannot just accept that there's mistakes and you know
mistakes happen but i guess you have to address what type of mistakes are happening and um you
know i you know evan's a fantastic player one of the best in the league um certainly one of the best
defenseman in the NHL.
Tonight was not his night, but
I've always seen him respond and
play much better
after games like this.
If you want to tell me he's one of the best offensive
defensemen in the NHL, I buy
that. But like, just to leave it as one
of the best defensemen in the NHL, you have
to be strong
in all areas of the
ice. And
I just have never gotten that
out of Bouchard.
You know, I will say, the only
thing that changes my mind on him
I would be all over
him right now too
but he's been so good in playoffs
he's been really good
like he's been able to be a kind of pretty good
all around D
so I don't know what happens in the season he's just
Willie for D
no
he's D-Nielander
D-Lander
defense
Willie
the toe drag to try to get around
Horvat to leave it's just like what
I mean, it's just a play that you'd be looking down the bench
and beer league being like, really?
Yeah.
Like, it's the NFL.
Squirrel.
Yeah, truly.
Yeah, it's a little distracted sometimes.
And boy, it can be really a good.
Shafir would look good again last night.
Yeah, I said to someone before the show, you know,
what about Bouchard for Team Canada?
Where do you have and whatever?
And someone said, you might want to take Schaefer before him.
I mean, I think that's crazy, right?
You never know.
That was me when I found out about your article.
You said Schaefer?
Well, you're just kind of batting a ball around here.
Who's better defensively?
Lots of guys.
He's a young man.
He's a teen.
It's team Canada.
I'm just putting that up against his giveaway last night.
Well, there's not even ice in Italy yet, so maybe there won't be any hockey.
That's a great point.
All right, Doug McLean's going to get ready here.
But quick thought on the Leafs, they found a way to get two points.
We left yesterday's show gone, boy.
between Stolars and Schisturkin, this thing could be a 1-1.
I think we said 2-1 finale.
We said 2-1.
Yeah.
You might have taken 3-2, but yeah, we called a lot scoring affair with a good goal-tending.
And it was, they were good goal-tending, but Stolars better than Shisterkin.
Stoller is so good.
Like, I know he's had the injuries when he's playing, man.
He's big and aggressive and competitive.
And I mean, he's, he's as good as the league has.
So that, for, just pick up points and wait to get better if you're optimistic about the Leafs?
Yeah.
Did you hate the game for them last night?
Uh, I didn't like it.
Okay.
I thought it was pretty, pretty low event both ways.
I think they had to make a, you had to make four or five big ones and sort of Schisturkin.
I think that game looked exactly the way all the rest of them have looked.
It's almost like this is the best.
scenario for the Leafs where the
Js are hot. No one's really paying
attention and they're just got 10
games to just figure it
out a little bit because you're right it hasn't looked
good last night and I can pull this up
I don't have it immediately here but like
you know their ozone possession
time eight more minutes for the Rangers than the
Leafs like that sort of stuff all over again
outshot
and it just it continues
to look the same with a
with a high degree
of we need stolars
yeah two straight game winners for austin matthews okay let's welcome him in let's not make him wait a second
longer because he's really really busy these days uh i don't know what he does but it sounds
like you're busy welcome in doug mclean yeah thanks uh thanks for having me guys i really
appreciate it well you took a week off a busy busy busy day for me uh i cleaned the barbecue
today i put it away put it away that's a tough job we're
Pay people for that, Doug?
No, we're heading to Florida Monday and just trying to get things cleaned up.
So it's been Loki and like, why have you got me on today?
I'm watching baseball.
I'm not watching hockey.
You know, like seriously, leave me alone.
I got barbecue to do.
I got to put the plants away, lawn furniture.
You know what?
Here's the biggest news.
And you've got to have this, kept.
Jill bought me a dolly.
Oh, that's handy.
So the big Adirondack chairs, the 10 Adirondack chairs, we have scattered around this property.
Yes.
Fit right on the dolly, right into the garage.
And this will save your back.
Saves my back.
I still get a good workout, but the dolly has helped.
And I fought her on it.
I fought her on it.
And she made me buy it, you know.
That is awesome.
She really loves you, right?
Well, let's not go there.
But anyway, we're getting.
We're getting along 48 years.
It's been a good run.
Mack, I want to start where a conversation we just finished off here before coming to you,
and that's Edmonton Oilers, Evan Bouchard.
Still a relatively young guy.
Yeah, he's got a big ticket contract right now, but is it too early to say he is what he is?
And the giveaway that we saw last night is just that's just an acceptable kind of part of him now moving forward.
or can you really scare that out of a kid still?
So Sammy said he tried to deke Horvatt.
I thought it was Barzell he tried to deke.
Is Sam an analyst now or is he just, you know?
Well, there was a few last night.
Yeah, it was Barzell.
You're right.
Yeah, yeah.
And he tried to deek him.
Look, you know, you love Bush.
You love the kid when he's in the playoffs and is on top of his game and making big plays.
but if, like, look, I was with Nick Lindstrom for five years and a superstar defenseman.
I, honest to God, I don't remember in the five years that I was an assistant,
associate coach with him that he ever made any mistakes like that.
I mean, he was such a, now, look, this is not a fair comparison,
but when you're going to get, you know, be a number one defenseman on a team,
no different than Podband with the Islanders and the big names guys that have been, you know,
the prongers. If you're going to be the number one defenseman on a Stanley Cup contending team,
you've got to knock that stuff out of your game. You really don't. I know he's an offensive
guy. I know that's the number one part of his game. But if you're going to be a winner,
if the team is going to be a winner, he's got to knock. And you heard it in Knoblock's voice
last night. You know, he's not putting up with that. No, that is something. They're still working
on him.
Around Canada, though, pretty good
teams right now. Montreal Canadiens
are four and one off to a hot
start. They just keep
God, they came back from behind.
You see the goal last night? Lain Hudson blocks. It hits
Cole Cawfield. They score late in games.
They score in overtime. They did it last
year. This just, this team just has something.
And there's a good energy. There's a good energy.
If you flipped between
the baseball game and the Leafs
and then you went from baseball
to Montreal,
There's a much different vibe.
They're a fun, fun team to watch right now, really skilled, really skilled.
They've got some great young talent.
They've got a lot of their guys tied up on long-term deals starting with Suzuki,
who to me is what makes them go there.
Caulfield is becoming a star, like a superstar.
You know, the tying and winning goals, a big.
plays. I mean, that went upstairs, short side last night. You know, it was an unbelievable
Hudson blocking, you know, empty net goal and he blocks the shot and makes the play. Demitoff
makes the stop up that Marty St. Louis showed him how to do a couple days before. I mean,
it's, I think the turning point is Marty, you know, they love watching them run the stairs
in the building. And I think it's just everything started there when, when, when
Sean McKenzie was interviewing him on the stairs.
I think it really got that franchise going, you know.
And I'll tell you what, I love watching them.
I really do.
Are they, my only question, when I look at the Florida Panthers and the Vegas,
look, we're not talking Stanley Cup here, are they big enough?
Are they going to be a big enough team to take it to the next level?
The game, whether people liked it or not,
the game is starting to change to whatever it takes to win hockey.
And I love everything they're doing, full marks to Gorton and Hughes.
And to Marty, are they going to be a big enough group to win at playoff time?
That's going to be the big question.
Toronto's finding a way to get points now against Nashville and the Rangers
but what have you seen out of Toronto Mac up until this point
outside of Stolars being by far and away their best player
yeah by far their best player you know Cowan is really impressed me
I talked to a couple of scouts about Cowan this week
and one guy that is a London guy
scout and has watched him
a ton. And he really,
really, really likes his kid
as a heart and soul kid.
You know, that type of
playoff type of guy that he grows
into, hopefully for the Leaves.
I, you know,
I like, I mean, I know they've got him
with the big guys now, Nyes and Matthews, but
they backed him off a little bit last night.
Yeah, yeah, they didn't. He took his ice time down
last night for sure. But I still think he's
can he grow into that? Look out.
Nyes, I was hard on Nyes being a little soft early on.
Now he looks like a horse.
Way goes to the net.
Can Cowan become another playoff type of guy that they desperately need?
My problem right now is Waa on the fourth line.
Like, my understanding is that he's one of the best third line guys around.
And now he's on the fourth line and Domi.
What do they owe Domi that they have to keep worrying about where they play this guy?
I like, hey, like, I like Ty.
He doesn't, he doesn't beat me up like he does you, Kepardom, because I'm in PEI, and there's not a chance he could find me here.
But I don't understand the obsession with, with Max, making, giving them all the cookies.
I mean, WHA should be their third line center.
Get it set up and get going.
Lotton becomes their fourth line center.
Plug max in wherever you want.
in the bottom six.
But come on, let's move this along, okay?
Just another 11 minutes for Niqua.
I know you're nervous.
I know you're nervous to say anything about Max.
I know you are.
I know it.
It's a, you're nervous.
You know, because you're good.
I'm nervous with you right now.
With the big deal, the big wigs in Toronto.
I don't have to.
I'm going into Somerside for dinner tonight.
Nobody's going to bother me about the leaves.
When your circles, it's a big, it's a big difference.
All right.
Well.
Sending Ty to vacation and P-E-I.
Come to look for you.
Ty Domi doesn't scare me.
I remember, I was on the bench, and he was playing early in his career,
and he had the big eyebrows, and I said on the bench,
who does your eyebrows, domy?
Oh, the look he gave me.
I thought he was going to kill me.
I'm glad when I was working in Toronto, we forgot about that line
when he was hauling you over the desk.
you know, to pound, you know, put you in a headlock.
Oh, he was, forgot all about me, you know.
The tie I know doesn't forget.
Keep your head up.
Anyway, look, look, it's not, I just think what is supposed to be your third line guy.
That's a real important position down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Get it set up.
I hate to have to help Barubi with his lines.
Every week, I'm trying to give him tips.
And he never listens.
You're doing your best.
And listen, I appreciate it because I'm with you, Doug, 100%.
So I keep skipping around Canada a little bit.
Out west, the Vancouver Canucks got a nice win yesterday.
What's the ceiling for this Canucks team?
Like, is there a chance that they can find themselves back in the playoffs?
I don't know what to make of them as much as any team in the league.
That's a big win last night.
It is.
That's a big win against Dallas, which are a good team.
Power play came alive.
I think they had three power play goals last night.
Yeah. You know what? There's a, there seems to be a good energy there, you know, Pedersen seems to be better. Quinn, we know, is a superstar. Bessor's a goal score.
Garland, you know, he's a good, good player. I'm not a huge fan, but he's a good player. I can Demko, can their goaltending be better than last year? I don't have them in the playoffs, guys. I don't. And I hope for Adam Futs sake, as I like Adam. And I think.
think he's going to be a good coach.
I just, I don't have them in.
I don't. I hope I'm wrong on that.
I think it was a
maybe a foregone conclusion that Ottawa
would just get back in again, but now
no Brady Kachuk for two months
here. Is this team going to be
okay? You know what I said
on this show a couple of weeks ago
that I'm really concerned about
their depth. I think they're really
a pretty thin group there. And
then all of a sudden you lose Kachuk, who
to me was he's got to calm down and I don't need to see him beating his chest on the ice you know
I just need to see him being the leader and being that tough tough guy to play against I hated to
see him get hurt I hate it the hit you know that he took I hate to see him out for six eight weeks
this is an interesting team I say they're thin but they're I've been told they're an unbelievable
tight group of players.
That there's a great admiration within that dressing room for each other.
And they're a team.
And, you know, from the Sanderson's to the Pintoes to the Stozo, I mean,
shouldn't every team be like that, though, isn't that what?
That's what you always want teams to be like,
but this is a team I hear that is unbelievably tight.
And I think Travis Green deserves some credit for that.
I think Travis is matured as a coach, not the same emotional guy.
I think he's fostered that in the dressing room.
Look, that was a win last night that they would not have won the last three or four years.
They would not have won that game.
And Almerk had to come up big in overtime, and he's been up and down.
Pinto, to me, I mean, what's the ceiling on a Pinto?
I think it's really high.
I think he's a really, really valuable player on that team.
So I like them.
I'm worried about thinness or, you know, not enough depth.
But right now there's a pretty good vibe there.
So we'll see if Can Allmark do it?
I'm not sold on them.
But, you know, I've got them in Toronto neck and neck the rest of the way.
And then you see Detroit come on.
Look like they're finally figuring out a little bit.
But it's early.
Look, it's early.
Columbus haven't got it going yet.
You know, it's going to be a dog fight, really.
So, you know, I want to talk about those guys that have the high ceiling.
Matthew Schaefer so far
has played four games Mac
he's played four points he's playing like
25 minutes a night I don't know if you had
experience with a superstar young kid
that you had to deal with but what's the right way to
handle him they're giving them treating them
like he's Drew Dowdy well it's
very similar like I don't know
if you knew but I drafted Nash number
one I don't have you ever heard that
Nash if I've ever talked about
but he he at 19
or whatever was our best player
by far our best player
And so it was really easy to handle them.
I just, you know, the only thing that used to piss my owner off was I'd put him on the power play,
especially on five on threes when I was coaching.
And we were paying them $15,000 for every power play goal.
And every five on three, I'd put him on the ice.
And the old man would say, why do you have to put him on every time it's a five on three?
Not really, Doug.
He didn't say that.
Because he's my best player.
Well, I mean, Nash, they made $4 million that year on bonuses, I think.
you know, I mean, you know, but anyway.
Was your owner trying to win?
You did, is someone else feeding the owner to ask you that or did, is, was he that astute?
No, he, he wasn't that astute.
It's like when I used to go to double eagle to meet with him at lunchtime and I'd be uptight about this meeting like, oh, my God, I got with the team struggling.
I got to go out and have lunch with Mr. McConnell.
I'd sit down a double eagle at his golf course, I'd sit at the table, and within five minutes, he was a sound asleep.
And finally, the manager had come in and I'd call them in.
I said, do you think I can go back to the office?
Because I don't want to wake them.
I'm not waking them.
If you guys want to wake them after I leave, you guys go ahead.
But I'm out of here.
So, you know, we never really talked much about those things.
But I remember one night he phoned me at 11 o'clock at night after we lost 5'0 to Nashville at home.
He phoned me at 11 o'clock.
And he answered the phone in my office.
And I'm sitting there just like dying.
and he said, oh, yeah, by the way, fired Dave King tomorrow morning.
And I said, Mr. Mack, who's going to coach?
And he said, you are.
And I said, oh, great.
So I'm the president, GMN coach.
Great.
Okay, that's great.
You thought it was like a peewee travel team.
But anyway, TV travel teams have five guys for those roles.
Exactly.
But anyway, those are stories.
You can read those in my new book.
I want to, like, dive into this relationship you had with your owner.
as a president and general manager
and the things that you had to deal with.
Sorry to interrupt.
Go back to Schaefer.
I haven't seen them live.
I've seen clips of them,
but I'm glad I'm excited that you've got a superstar on the island.
Okay, just, okay, if you want to go there for a split second here,
like,
is there any world that it's okay to play an 18-year-old
who played all but 15, 20 games last season in junior hockey before being hurt,
now playing 25, 27 minutes a night?
You know what? I don't, look, if he deserves the ice time
and the players in the dressing room know whether he deserves the ice time
and if he deserves the ice time, Patrick will have a good feel on that
and his staff. I don't have a problem with it in today's game.
I really don't. The young players are take, look at the Hudson last year,
a rookie of the year, fabulous season.
And, you know, I love Ken Dryden's phone call with him,
the late Ken Dryden's phone call with the kids saying,
everybody said you were too small, everybody said this and that,
and you're the Calder Trophy winner.
Well, you know, I love seeing guys like Schaefer come in the league.
I really do.
I think it's great for the game, and we're a young league now.
I don't have a problem with it.
Okay, I just want to get back to this as a president
in dealing with ownership groups and making tough decisions.
of course everyone's focus is how do we win the Stanley Cup
but there is also that that other side of
pro sports world the business side
and then you make some hard decisions Vegas made one
with Carter Hart joining them
not eligible to play till December 1st
hey I love
Vegas's attitude and I talked to
George McPhee a lot this summer
and I love you know Florida and Vegas
right now or two franchises that it's whatever it takes to win.
And, you know, I know the hesitancy around the kids.
I get that.
I get what, you know, not that, you know, the awful thing that happened and being acquitted.
But Carter Hart, to me, is an unbelievable signing by Vegas.
I'm sorry, but this is a signing, and let's see if I'm right or not,
This is a signing that shows they'll do whatever it takes.
Maybe it's partially their market where they can do that.
But I'm telling you, they don't care.
It's all about winning.
It's all about winning.
And this particular signing could set their gold tending up for the next eight years.
Very easy.
Could set up their gold in the next eight years.
And I'm telling you, there's no position more important.
And Linda Cohn talked about it.
Look at Stavids.
He's such a star.
You know, I mean, it's that important.
Mack, Carolina was certainly looking like they were going down that attitude
until it affected the bottom line and season ticket holders
and how many threatened to maybe cancel.
Like, where's that line?
You were a president with an owner.
Where's that line?
The line is that I think Vegas.
and Florida are different, and the line is, it's all about winning the Stanley Cup.
That's what I think.
Would I have had the, whatever, to do it in Columbus as president and GM?
Yeah, I would have been really nervous to do it.
I have to be honest with you.
But I love looking at the attitude of McCriman, McPhee, and Zito and Paul Maurice,
right now it's we're going to do whatever it takes to win the stanley cup well and how about jack
ickel was he got 11 points in five games or something yeah he's really become something for him
it took a risk on him yeah from making that trade and and the other kid that's that's scoring all
the goals for the there every night what's his name i can't pronounce it do or fiv yeah yeah i i can't
pronounce it now you guys are good at that you know you're the stars but i you know i i i i don't
know i i just think it's i i don't have a problem with it i really don't
well i think uh i think that's good for me kepp are you good for the week can we get let mac go
yeah anything else you want to get off your chest mac
you know what i i was i'm happy for matthews getting it going like i it happened to me this
summer i lost my caddy and it killed my golf game did it it killed my golf game and matthews
lost his caddy with mariner and he's been able to get him back he's been able to figure
it out without his caddy, and he's got it going again, and I'm really proud of him.
I mean, it has been interesting to see the whole team try to kind of find themselves
post-Marner, right? Because he ate up such a huge portion of their ice time.
And such an important player.
Yeah.
I know the Leaf family. There's a couple of women on Twitter that just slammed me.
I hope they're hell they're not listening to this show today.
But, I mean, every time I'm positive of Marner, I just get ripped.
And I'm thinking, I don't need that aggravation anymore.
Anyway, you know, so I look, they're finding their way as a team.
Everybody says they're harder to play against.
Everybody says they look like they're more playoff ready.
I haven't seen it yet.
The games I've watched, they've been just average.
So let's see.
I hope it hits and clicks in.
I know that Keith Pelly gave them the freedom to go big at trade deadline.
Does Keith know when the trade deadline is?
Isn't it months away?
You just bring planning, is he?
They got a long runway to swing big.
Anyway.
Hey, can you, for next week's show,
could you send us some video of you
on the dolly pushing, like, your chairs?
I really want to see.
Can Jill get you pushing the dolly?
You know, those chairs weigh like 75 pounds,
and I was muscling them from the beach deck
to the garage and you know and now now the dolly i mean it's spectacular and it was 55 i said i don't
want a dolly i don't want a dolly and she said it's fifty five dollars Doug we're buying a dolly
you might need a second dollar 55 dollars on sale if you don't get a second dollar she might
need one to push you around soon that's what i'm going to call you from down in dollywood
you know what's great about coming on this show
the Blue Jays are playing, nobody
is listening to it.
We left the Jay's jersey up.
Hey.
My buddy here, Justin Boren,
has got to do a show in like
during the fourth inning.
Yeah, 630 Hockey Central
tonight. Tune in on Sportsnet.
You can say whatever you want or
wear whatever.
You can go on dressed like
a, well, no, I want to say it.
No, no. Naked.
Naked. You could do the show naked
and no one will notice.
Exactly.
All right.
All right.
Great job today, Max.
Thanks for having me.
Now I got to get ready.
I got an interview in Boston at 5 o'clock.
Oh, my gosh.
Leave me alone with you, you guys.
See what we started?
See what we started?
You're back.
Doug McLean, everybody.
Thanks, Mac.
All right.
We're going to do game time?
We should do game time.
It's game time.
Presented by Met 365.

ordinary at bet 365 is 19 plus

um
yeah I guess baseball baseball baseball baseball
uh like this like he said so eloquently
nobody's listening to us anyway so we should talk about baseball um
podcast to be down yeah
the jays tonight
the money line is moving closer and closer
Seattle still still a slight
fave at minus 105
I just
Tonight is
What's the Jays number?
Minus 15
Yeah
Oh they're actually favorites tonight
Oh yeah I guess it's the other way right yeah
I'm all over it
Sorry about 365
Yeah minus 115 the Js
They had the race on the hill
Against the Mariners
Fifth starter who the Jays have already seen
Had some struggles with him
Which I saw firsthand at the dome
On last week whenever that was
It's a big one tonight
Needless to say
It is a rather large match
tonight in Seattle.
You know, it's either
a difference between coming home
with a chance to win the World Series
on, or go to the World Series on Sunday
versus defending to try to start a game seven.
So pretty, pretty big game.
And I really have,
if they lose today,
it's, they can still win two at home.
Of course.
That's just, there's no way.
At this point, at this point,
there's just, you can't ever write them off.
And I got to tell you, I went to the well last night
With a Vladimir Guerrero Junior home run
Yeah
I'm going to tell you right now
There's no reason not to do it again
By the way, the one he hit yesterday
Was just, it looked so effortless
Opposite field
If you put 10 bucks on that, what would it pay down?
It would be $35 bucks
Yeah, plus $350.
That's not sad.
So plus $350 and another guy that has been
absolutely on fire
hitting everything.
I said yesterday.
Ernie hit.
I gave him two winners yesterday.
If you listened to the show, that's rare.
I love that guy.
Give me an Ernie Clement home run tonight.
He ripped that ball off his own foot.
12 to one, Ernie Clement home run.
You heard it here first, baby.
And Ad, low and away with one hand reaching out for it.
He's unbelievable.
He's unbelievable.
They just don't want to throw him a heater anymore, eh?
That's all junk.
And last thing, there's four hockey games tonight.
Canucks in Chicago
to take on the Blackhawks.
It's on sports net tonight.
I think like after the Jay.
I think it's the times I put on here.
That's at 8.30.
Oh, I'll be in a bit of that.
Watchable.
135 Canucks minus 135
favorites in Chicago taking the Blackhawks.
It would just be a great rivalry.
Kind of like Chicago.
The old playoff rivalry between the Blackhawk
and the Canucks suck.
The Bedard-Nazara thing is starting to percolate.
I just hope he's good.
He's better now.
He's stronger.
You like him now.
Better.
A lot better.
Yeah.
Now it's like he's ready to turn into a man.
That was game time.
Instead of by Bet365.

At Bet, 365, Mr. 19 plus.
Ontario only, please play responsibly.
I'm doing a little Bidar thing on the show that no one's going to watch later.
And he's really high in the league in a lot of categories like takeaways and stick checks.
Like a lot of, like, things that he didn't use to be 189th, he's ate that now.
Like he's, his whole game has come around.
He's working harder.
Yes.
He's in the, in the mix a little bit more.
I mean, he's, is he a 20-year-old yet?
He's just 20.
Yeah.
So, I mean, that helps.
Not being a child.
It is, but it's also.
Being a 20-year-old helps.
A mindset.
Third year.
Yeah.
Three years in the league.
You know what now.
I can't get away with.
Well, it's not what you can't get away with.
It's just you're, you got to, you know,
what to expect now. You know how much
they're going to zone in on you
because you are their best player. You're
the most dangerous player on this team.
That means you see the top matchups.
You see the top D pair.
And you better find ways to get
around that. You're never going to have the puck unless you do
some of that other stuff. Exactly.
All right. We're looking forward to that
eventually. I mean, I could
tape it and watch it at some point next
week or, you know. Catch it next time
it's on. All right. Sounds good. The next time
they meet. Okay, let's take a quick break when we were
return, it's your text.
590, 590.

whatever you want to say, bring it on

I'm curious what you guys
of what happened with Stolars in his mask last night.
Shouldn't have been that, shouldn't that have been whistled down regardless
because of safety, Rob from Richmond Hill?
100%.
I mean, they do, there's some rule about, you know,
you can't stop a scoring opportunity, right?
If they've got the puck and they've got a chance,
they're not going to blow it down because goalies will just shake their helmet
off their head.
But there's no doubt that was wildly unsafe.
The guy who was facing a one T from the slot with no mask.
If he takes one off the head.
It's over.
And they instantly changed the rule.
We can't do that anymore.
Like, heaven forbid, we get ahead of it.
I got to think for a split second, maybe an official took his eyes off the situation.
I don't know.
I mean, I don't know.
I would think that.
He hung in there.
It was one of the more badass things ever.
He went full Gump, Worsley.
He just stood right in there.
It was unreal.
That was great.
But yeah, I don't know if they'll ever change that or not, but it did feel like,
I'm not sure we should be allowing that.
But I also don't like the idea
that goalies could just shake their helmet off
and there's chances, though.
Hey guys, Adam from Saskatchewan.
Love the show.
Haven't missed an episode from day one.
Keep it up.
Hope you'd miss day one.
My good friend, my cousin, Adam, and addition,
what's up?
Simply put, are we starting to see
the backside of Connor and Leon's career?
Points and pure domination just aren't there.
Thoughts.
Go away.
Thank you for listening.
I don't mean go away.
I just mean that suggestion.
No, he's right.
We are starting to see the back half.
Like they've been in the league 10 years.
If they're in the 20, they're on the back half.
You know, by technically, yes.
Well, there can it be the middle portion before we call it the back?
No, there's like front and back.
This is the 10th T of the back nine.
Yeah, like they just had a grease missile and they're having a cold transfusion.
They're like, seven under three nine and on the 10th T, yes.
You dig into that hot.
Hot dog, you are on the back.
You're in the second you consume.
Because you've already said,
I've got a fresh start now.
Wipe out the first nine.
Okay, forget the double bogies.
Forget the double Stanley Cup losses.
The double fogies.
I'm on the back nine.
He is correct.
They are on the back nine.
And I don't know if they're ever going to hit high points again in production.
But you don't know if Connor McDavid's
ever going to hit high points or production again what is their high what's his highest in points 150 yeah
okay you see that coming no he's not going to set a career a personal best that's what we're talking
about oh well hey maybe it's more realistic that he's going to be in the 110 or 120s what and
semantics is the word i'm looking correct and people may feel like that's not vintage
Connor yes but it doesn't matter because he just wants the silver tin cup I actually I'll even
quibble with the idea that it's
the 10th T because he's 20, what?
8? 7, 28?
Like, these guys,
Sid's going to play until he's 4th.
The exceptional, if they want to play,
there's a four-year window here where he's peak.
He's definitely on the back side of his Edmonton career.
That's for sure.
Oh, I mean, he's like, I'll sign a contract for like 20 months.
You answered a question that wasn't asked.
Sorry, I mean, he's, anyway.
Just answer this question one more time.
And I know Hyman's still out, but did they get better or worse this year?
Regular season or playoffs?
Well, overall, I guess.
Can't get much better without winning the cup in the playoffs.
Why would they be worse than last year?
Connor Brown?
Jeff Skinner, Corey Perry.
The same?
At least, yeah.
Okay.
I don't think they were
Walman hasn't played a shift yet
They went to the final last year
And I didn't think they were like
Particularly great up and down the line
They just have McDavid and Drysidal
And you know they have some good support pieces clearly
But like when you have those two guys
And you get a couple saves in the playoffs
They got young players now
Who they're counting on a little bit here
And it may take time
Yeah
At home Bouchard nurse Walman's Detcher Kulak
Like they can defend
At home's another year older
Wear and tear
And Frederick should be better
they got him for the full year.
Anyways, Rosslovick's been added.
Interesting question and interesting in the way he framed it.
Yep, that is.
Take it.
Do we have time for one more?
Well, that's one about the Jets.
If you do go to the 11th floor of this building and ask for tickets,
could you also ask for a couple of these quarter inch adapters that we haven't had for five years?
I think there is a barrel somewhere in this building.
And they're like that our tech guys go and they pick one off the top and they're like,
Well, go get one, and then it'll be circulated throughout the whole radio team.
That's my own laziness, not a availability.
Okay, somebody just texted in and said, Clement for mayor.
Love that.
Good afternoon, gents.
Why can't you ice the puck if the opposing team pulls their goalie, Rob from the Hammer.
Rob from the Hammer, because that is icing.
That's icing.
Your team has six bodies, their team has six bodies.
You cannot shoot it from that side of your own red.
Last thing.
Randy from Ebbotton.
With respect to Bouchard,
although the reduced hitting
and larger ice surface
certainly make Bouchard a consideration,
but his defense is just not good enough
and I would hate to see him get vilified
for his defensive blunders
because they would absolutely happen.
Hard no to Bouchard for the Olympic team.
Go Team Canada going to guy from Everton.
I mean anti-Bouchard for Canada point
is just he's not playing Pee-P-1
ahead of Cal McCar.
Not even Thomas Harley for me.
I don't know.
So if it's not for that, then...
And also it's the same kind of ice, I think.
I think it's the same size.
I think it's NHL ice, if I'm not mistaken.
I mean, there's no ice yet.
Right.
So they could still, if they want to do an audible, they could still figure it out.
So, Kayle McCar, shoot one in the net the other day.
Oh, my God, he's so good.
There's not many guys that can take a puck, get it to the middle, and then take it to the net like that.
Like, I'm watching the Rangers and the Leafs last night.
It's hard.
It's so hard for guys to get the puck to the middle of the ace and then take it to the net.
There's not many guys that can do that.
McCar has seven points in five games.
It's just...
Yeah.
Really good.
They're so special.
And Quinn Hughes, too.
You saw the redirect on Brock Bessers?
He's awesome.
Again, how many guys can make that pivot
and then drive it right down to the net?
Barker's waiting to burst in here like Kramer on Seinfeld, by the way.
Quinn Hughes makes a bit of a difference for Team USA, by the way.
Yeah, what's that?
All right.
That's the week.
We're out of here.
Our thanks to Doug McLean.
We are mere hours away from first pitch.
We could come back in here on Monday and the Jays could be playing in the World Series.
That potential exists.
Okay, when was the last time Toronto played a California team in a championship game and what happened?
We've got to go.
Bye-bye.
