All right, let's get her going right back at you
with the Real Kipper and Bourne show, Nick Kiprios,
Justin Bourne, Sammy McKee and in studio.
Hall of Famer, Eric Lindros, is about to join us.
This hour of Real Kippenborne brought to you by Bet365.
All right, giddy up, Biggie.
Thanks for coming in, pal.
It's a long way.
Down the hill, up the hill, and here we are.
Yeah, listen, you've done a wonderful job with Easter Seals over the years.
I just don't know how you roped me into this now.
Like, I don't know how this happened.
Who's responsible?
But we're all in on your tournament this year.
Both Justin and I, Sammy McKee, and yours truly will be.
be a big part of it, which we're happy about.
Good.
We've, they gave us Q codes.
QR codes.
QR codes.
Oh, you can tell how old I am.
Right?
But this is all about raising money.
Let's just do a bit of history with you and how you got involved.
And just take it from there.
Yeah, 14 years ago.
Andrew from Jackson, we sat down and wanted to do something.
We wanted to pick a charity.
and figure out something fun,
something that we can make a difference with.
And he had a great format of the tournament,
of the draft night, getting people together,
going out, playing some hockey, having some fun.
It's not about, you know, great teams.
It's about getting out there and raising a lot of money.
And we chose Easter Seals.
Easter Seals is fantastic.
I don't know if you guys know much about it,
But kids with disabilities and wheelchairs,
we're walking into their homes and helping them out in their bathrooms.
We're making, doing accessibility changes to their,
to their porches and to their side doors.
We're helping out with their vans and different vehicles.
And then the thing that the kids love the most is they get to go away for camp.
And it's a 24-hour situation where they're getting the care that they need.
and then at home
and the dynamic changes completely
for the rest of the family.
So it's a special time for both,
well, for the campers for sure
and everybody enjoys that week.
So we're proud to be part of it.
There's no cause I think that it means more to me personally
and I think it's so cool.
Do you guys do this?
I have a brother, Jeff Borden,
who's heavily involved in Easterseals,
camps growing up and all this sort of accessibility issues
and you don't realize what a problem it is
until you're particularly in a city like Toronto.
You go to a restaurant and you've got to go to the washroom.
You're like, okay, well,
no chance if you're in a chair.
So the fact that you guys give this to those people means the world.
To me,
cool to be a part of.
Now,
do you actually get on the ice and run people over?
Well,
it's inadvertent.
Okay.
You've seen the SportsNet team play.
Have we had any positive representation?
You guys are good.
You guys are good.
You're this close to making the highlights.
So myself, Justin and Sammy, now are we a line or?
We got to be a line.
I think so.
Sammy, do you play wings, Sam?
What do you play?
Left wing.
I can go 200 for them.
Left wing for us.
We'll decide once we see them out there.
For those of you watching, you can see the QR code on the bottom of your screen.
Please give it a hit and whatever you're comfortable with donating would go to this wonderful cause.
One thing we're really proud of is that this charity sets itself apart where we are less than 20% of what we make of every dollar.
going towards what it costs to put on the event.
So 80 plus percent of every dollar is going directly to Easter Seals.
And that's something that's extremely important and extremely,
we're proud to have those levels.
That's crazy.
Honestly, those numbers are fantastic.
So this year we're going to get out there, as you said,
and people can join us in that.
Now, do you regularly play hockey still?
You still?
We're missing the Big Greek over here has not been out.
It has not been out.
They're well aware of my broken rib.
Oh.
It's almost there.
How is he?
How is it these days for me?
I go out there, you breathe on me, and it's broken again.
That's my fear.
We wouldn't know.
Yeah, he doesn't get out there much at all day.
He doesn't get out there.
He used to come all the time, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Yeah, yeah, I'm almost ready.
I am almost ready.
Yeah, it brings him back to his North Basin Texx.
Does he get him deep and forecheck?
Is that his still?
He sits in front of the net and wax him in and just looks around and smiles.
You know how it, yeah.
And then he yells at me.
Okay, and then he yells at me.
Move your ass, camera.
Let's go.
Oh, my God, I'm going to get set down.
God, he's got, he's getting nervous.
I'm going to get sent down to the 7 a.m. Skate.
All right, so the draft is the night before.
Yeah, we have a lot of good guys, yeah.
And that's always a fun event.
We do order of who raises the most money.
And, yeah, we've got some real good, real big names.
Like, Adam Graves always shows up.
He's always there.
He's wonderful.
He does a lot of work in his own right.
Johnny Leclair drives up every year, never takes a dime.
Because it, you know, yeah, he's just a fantastic.
We got a huge list here.
Tux is in, Crowder, Getsloff is great.
Colby Armstrong.
Kobe's in.
We got Colby this year.
Wow, we got a good lineup.
Cody Hodson.
Cody's playing on, he's taking your spot.
Cody is like, he should, like, borderline NHL.
He should still play.
He should still play in the NHL.
He's good.
Yeah, we got a great group, Dave McIlwain.
Kevin Reed is always, he's a riot.
And for those of you in the area that want to stop by, are they able to?
Yeah, sure.
It's on the Friday, next Friday, and it's at Squashapon.
Awesome.
Yeah.
That's a good spot.
Terrific stuff.
And once again, a reminder between now and the event, November 7th, 8th.
7th and 8th.
6th.
We will show this QR code.
Justin and I have a little bit of a fundraise competition here.
Good.
And I'm really hoping my friends are richer than his friends.
I can tell you one thing, they are.
Listen, we started off.
Short conversation.
Our first year we did this, I think we raised about $65 or $70,000.
And now we're, and 14 years, we're coming in at $6 million.
So we've really, the game's been up, and it's a lot of fun.
And there's a lot of momentum with it.
And people are having fun doing it.
Awesome.
Awesome stuff.
That's good stuff.
So these days, do you find yourself watching the NHL closely?
How involved are you with the league that you were such a big part of for so many years?
Not much at all.
Not much at all.
I spend my time on the Gardner.
It's open now.
Parts of it are open.
Yeah.
On the DVP and the Allen, yeah.
Okay, so not as involved in part of that, I think, is having kids that are playing hockey.
I got three kids on three teams and we're busy at home.
We just closed out our first hour of our show talking about all.
Olympics and who may be on and who may not be on young talent out there celebrating.
Of course, we just mentioned this time of year with just mere months away from the Olympics must just like bring great memories back.
It's a lot of fun.
The Olympics are great.
And people love the hockey.
Yeah.
People love the hockey.
I mean, look how it was like almost like we were starred for international hockey.
It went before we had the last one, right?
Desperation.
Desperation, right?
So what's the hold-up?
Is it an insurance?
Is it what it was?
No, no.
I think everything's good to go except the arena.
If there's an arena, they may not be ready till like the day of the event.
Okay.
I'm sure they'll put some up.
Do you recall the years that you did play in the Olympics about?
Oh, 92, 98, and 02.
Wow.
Those particular seasons when you were getting ready for the season plus the Olympics,
did it play in your mind at all?
or is it something that you could forget about
until you actually have to pack and leave?
You've got a chance to play for your country.
You're thinking about it.
You've already been to training camp in the summer, right?
Are you thinking about how you feel?
Well, you're thinking about who not to run over.
It's going to be part of your team.
I'm not going to lie to you.
We lost Korea before the 98, the day of the game before.
Like, there's a little things that go on for sure.
Absolutely.
And even yourself, if you've got a bruised shoulder,
you play the next night, you take it off.
No, you play, you give your heart to you.
your team and do what you need to do for that and if you know you the next the next stage is is
you know team Canada whatever then you give your heart to that but no you you fulfill your
obligation obviously with your obviously I'm not saying that you'd bail or anything but you know
maybe just take it easy a little bit more and while you're telling me you're taking it easy on
potential teammates in a few weeks take it easy on them not yourself right so you know I was
thinking about you coming on our show today and you know when you watch the n hl today there hasn't
really been someone like you since you has there like in terms of like tom wilson doesn't do what you do
offensively effective though isn't he oh yeah do you think he someone like him would be effective in
olympic hockey or do you think it's a different type of game i think he's i think he'd be effective
yeah i don't see uh yeah for sure i am um yeah i mean i look at edmonton and and and
losing, who went to Vancouver?
Vander Kane.
Van der Kaine?
I won, I just, I want Stings if you're an Edmonton fan, I think.
I think it's a big win for Vancouver.
There's certain guys in the league that can change the current, like the undercurrent of a game.
The score might be one thing, but there could be, there's, it's not just about that particular
game, it's about how you're feeling or how your team is feeling, leaving that game and then
the next that follow.
And with the crescendo being what you're going to do in the playoffs.
Right.
and there's there's very few guys that can that can change that culture and uh and those two are you
was one of them is there you know we talked a little bit um before we came on here and we're talking
about the the Leafs and like can Matthew Nyes be that for them could he find out what yeah
you see something in him that could I do I I mean I don't watch Leafs all you know regularly
but I just I love I love how aggressive he is I love his physicality he's a strong player that
plays he stands up like he's he's
He's, he's, uh, he doesn't play on the perimeter.
He's, he's, he's, when you look at what you need in, in, in the spring, that's the style that
is successful.
Yeah.
It always is, every year.
Every year, it's successful.
Oh, this again.
Wide entries, you know, five guys, it's not the stretch pass and the crazy, you know, the, it's not,
it's, it's, it's, it's, it seems to be who's got control of the puck, puck possession.
and high probability plays, you know, nothing really changes.
You know, so much talk with when Marner left and just the general question about pressure,
everybody started talking about pressure and how much pressure there is.
And, you know, I recall when you came out of Oshawa, first pick overall, you end up in Philly.
They built a new arena because of you.
They needed one.
I love the spectrum by the way
But there are a lot
A number of ranks built
That was
That was some pressure
Okay now
Here we are in 2025
Has it changed much
Is there more pressure
Less pressure?
Is the social media now
Change the scope of things?
I'm sure it has
But you know
You're talking about the Q code
You know I'm the same way
Right
So in terms of social media
I don't know
I always found it
easier just to put your head down and go.
Yeah.
And I think that's, you know, you play in a big city like Toronto.
That's kind of what you got to do.
You go out, you go out to dinner, everybody in the restaurant knows whether you've been
playing well or not.
That's just a matter of fact, right?
So it's, yeah, I like it.
I love playing in these, in the places that have lots of attention and knowledgeable
fans.
And I think most of the guys do.
I am fascinated by, you know, sort of when your career ends and your whole life.
life is, you know, your top pick and great success and Hall of Fame career and all those
things. And that now that you're just interested in, you know, family and not being as involved
with it, do you, did you, I guess, how do you get to that point where you separated yourself from
hockey a little bit? I certainly, you know, didn't have the career you did, but I needed some time
away from hockey before I got back into hockey media. You know, it was it hard to do or were you
ready at the end of your career to just kind of step away from hockey? And I was done with hockey. I always
looked, I always looked forward to going to practice.
Yeah. And at the end, I was not looking forward to it.
I was looking at the clock, you know, three quarters of the way through practice,
and I'd never did that before.
And it wasn't the same.
I lost my love for it.
So it took, and I was, I was upset.
I was disappointed in a few things, and, and it took a while to get over it.
Now, going to the NHLPA and being the ombudsman there wasn't exactly the best move
if you want to chill out.
But a little bit of separation is needed
and then a reset press
and enjoy the game.
The game itself is wonderful.
I mean, we play Tuesday, Thursday mornings
with a great group of guys.
It's a blast.
And many of those guys come and support Easter Seals.
They're all there.
They have a team and throw it together.
Hockey's just, I think it's the best support in the world.
I truly do.
I know the Js are doing well.
We want them to win the World Series.
and baseball is fantastic,
but I still believe that hockey is the A-1.
You're watching and listening in studio,
Eric Lindros, Hockey Hall of Famer,
and still doing a lot of things with the Flyers.
You go back.
A little bit here and there, not so much the last few years.
Yeah, no.
Yeah, and one of the most, you know,
certainly in my era,
yours started a little after that,
but, you know, they were a powerhouse.
organization over the years
it's it's important that they get back on their feet
I know it's been a tough grind
they've got a great fan base right
like when you play in Philly they're the fans want it
yeah and they
they'll let you slide as long as you're trying your best
but they're getting there it's time
it's time to it's
it's been a few years
and uh and the Eagles and the Phillies
well the Eagles are doing great
the Phillies have been solid
And so that's, you know, even the 76ers, they're, you know, up and down a little bit, but depending on health of a few.
But, no, they're, it's a great place to play.
And when it's going well, guys are having fun there, which kind of goes in.
And it's kind of a basic thing.
Yeah, yeah.
They're intense.
They're intense people.
And they know their stuff.
Yeah.
So the, you know, away from the game these days, you have a son that's a similar age to mine.
playing hockey and a daughter as well.
Two sons.
Two sons and a daughter, yeah.
And then they're all on the ice playing.
Do you coach?
When they're not on the gardener.
Yeah, when you're not on the gardener, do you coach that you?
I help out with, try to help out and get out there.
There's no such thing as helping out.
There's just, you're a big ear there.
But, no, I get the coaches are kind enough to have me on the ice and go for a twirl.
Do they clam up when you come out there and just let you know?
No, God, no.
Did you first try to just sit in the stands with a coffee and then?
and everybody's looking at you going.
Could you just give us some help?
Can you fix this, please?
No, there's some good coaches out there.
There's some really good coaches and there's some really bad ones.
It's hard to find to align your kids.
It takes a lot of work to get your kids with good coaching.
And I think we're pretty fortunate.
So I got to ask you, noticing the hat and the Jays.
And were you a baseball guy?
growing up as well.
I went down to spring training camp the whole bit.
Eric Lindross baseball card.
Any thought about being a two-sport guy?
That was right then with Bo was doing it.
I went down to, it was 93,
92, spring of 92.
And I went down to, I went down to spring training camp
a week before the big boys came in.
Dan Eden, Blue Jays.
Yeah, yeah.
And did a full week down there.
there, Mr. Beeston set it up, and boy, did I learn a lot.
You know, I played high school, you know, with my buddies out at the, out and whip you,
the whole Generals team basically went and played baseball once our hockey season was done.
We were good.
We went to the semifinals of Voluntary or whatever, and we were decent.
I loved it, but I never, I wouldn't say I had the coaching.
I didn't have the Larry Marston, the Lairbearer of baseball helping me out.
When I got down there, boy, was it something?
It was eye-opening.
Every day I learned so much.
It was a lot of fun.
Were you cranking the ball over the fence back then?
No, no.
I wasn't, no.
Not too often.
Not too often.
Have you been able to get out to any of the games since the playoffs here?
Not the playoffs.
No.
We went, actually, I sat next to Kenny Reed.
I forget who we were playing.
Reg I might know.
What day was out for your birthday, Regi?
It was in mid-September.
Anyway, I forgot who they were playing, but it was good.
14th.
Anyway, sorry about this.
September 14th.
That's a boy.
Sunday.
All right, nice.
That and the popcorn he remembers.
Oh, the popcorn, the hot, the foot, the hot dog.
The hot dogs?
A little unnecessary.
It goes right to tide, right?
But you've been watching closely?
I'm learning a lot every time.
If you watch the game,
you're picking up on little things that I didn't know.
And the announcing is great.
It's unbelievable.
It truly is.
And the theory, the...
Out of the strategy behind the strategy.
And then, you know,
who was it that shook off the manager when he was coming out of the pitcher?
Oh, sure is there.
Yeah, sure.
Shook him off.
Yes.
You know, like, that's hard.
Like, I just love that.
Yeah.
Right?
As opposed to analytics telling you,
oh,
this guy's done.
He's shot,
you know,
like this guy wants it.
And this,
that,
and the other thing.
And we,
oh,
we got to go in
and change it.
It's a feeling.
It's a,
yeah.
So that's,
I really enjoyed that,
that element.
Bring Brex,
memories of you
and maybe a coach
going at it on the bench.
What's that?
You,
you spoke to a few coaches
the same way,
Scherzorz or spoke to Schneider.
Do you ever rule your coaches
and say,
it's an overall.
I didn't say overall,
but in hockey,
in hockey,
as Kipper knows when it's time to get on the ice.
Yeah.
One foot.
You stand up.
Hang a leg over.
You break yourself over the side and you make it very obvious.
So you think he should be out there.
Yeah.
And he's got one foot over the boards.
We all do it.
Everybody does it.
I think I'm going to go next.
You know, you're on a good team when there's 15 legs hanging over the bench, right?
Yeah.
That's great.
Well, we'll see what happens tonight.
Yes.
We'll see if the, you're going to bring him some luck with that hat, that's for sure.
Let's do it.
So once again, Easter Seals, we're in, we're all in.
You can see the QR code.
Please give whatever you can.
We're going to be there.
We're going to put a team together, a sports net team.
How many teams participate?
I think it's 14 this year.
14.
All right.
Looking forward to a couple games.
Where's your equipment?
Do you even have equipment?
Honestly, it's been four or five years since I've put on full equipment.
It's probably eaten through by rats, but I'm going to be out there, baby.
I know I've got skates anyway, so I'll be there.
Good.
Yeah.
Make it work.
Well, we really appreciate you coming in, pal.
And we appreciate you guys doing what you're doing to help us along.
It is for Easter Seals.
It's it.
Eric Lindrosse, Hall of Famer.
Thanks, pal.
All right, Kipper.
Thanks so much.
We're going to take a quick break.
When we return, we'll get into what we saw to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Friday and Saturday.
More to come.
Unreal Kipper and Bourne.
Everything you need to know about the Blue Jays.
Blair and Barker.
Be sure to subscribe and download the show on Apple, Spotify, or wherever.

born on the ice together for the first time guys
I am terrified for you guys to see me out there.
Oh, whatever.
Yeah.
You don't think we've seen?
No, like, I don't know.
Like, you know, I...
You guys, they're both played at a very high level.
I'm going to have to protect you out there.
Is there going to be people saying,
Sammy, I hated what you said, and then they start running you?
If anyone touches Sammy, we got to just flippers off.
We got to just protect the show.
Get his back.
Show the people how it's done.
I wouldn't say I'm the fleet of foot out there.
So, we'll see.
I'm looking forward.
it. It'll be great. It's nice to spend a full day away from here together, you know, and
Eric Lindross in studio. If you don't, if you're just joining us now, go download our show.
We played against him last year, well, on the sports net team. And he was playing with,
is it the Skatey 8th? Yeah. That's, that's the morning skate, Thursday mornings.
And we were playing, like, it was our sports net team. So we had, like, I was on the team. I think
Justin Cuthbert played. Kenny Reed was on our team. Like, we're okay. Like, we're all okay,
hockey players and we had some clients in the team
and some not so great hockey players and
the skatey eights were doing like three touch breakouts
like snapping around I was like there's a guy
one guy that was like the most long
hair jacked look like a
Johnny yeah man he looked like a Viking
out there I was like who is this guy
he flew around
the ice I played a lot of those
games with my dad and their
group so they you know there's a
born's fantasy camp a couple
years and so they had we had Dale
Howard Chuck Brian Trache we you know
we had a lot of like names out there and these guys would play like the firemen or whatever
a bunch of in shape guys that were running around and just play keep away never dump a puck in
never should you know nine shots eight goals sort of like shooting percentage is high because you're
not getting it back the the mind doesn't quit like the legs do right correct that's playing like
soccer right back all right Toronto Maple Leafs finish a back to back with the buffalo sabers
Saturday night ended well
with at least two points. Let's get Craig
Barrowby's overview.
Clip one.
Yeah, gritty win.
Kind of how I look at it, you know.
You know, like I said,
the difference for me tonight is
we were better
defending the odd man rushes
and things like that. I think we gave up two
in the first period they capitalized on one of them.
But we were
above things all night.
And it was, you know, it's a low-event game,
but, you know, he played teams like that.
You've got to make sure that you're not giving those freebies up.
And we didn't do that.
And I thought our guys played hard.
You know, I liked the jam they played with tonight, physical,
a couple nice hits and just a little bit pissed off.
Standing O for Jake McKay, who led the charge in Pissed Off during that game.
That was a burrow under the saddle type of night.
But that's a real first sign I'll think I've seen all season of like real emotion.
You know, we did that game the other night and I did hits per game or whatever.
And McKay was down like a hit per game this year over last.
It's like, huh, that's weird, you know?
Like, it's not like him to not play like that.
And he noticed.
Yeah, I mean, I was just going to say, like, this is, they were on the cusp of kind of being embarrassed by the Buffalo Sabres this weekend.
this past weekend.
Like they were down.
They needed a goal.
They needed Johnny Toronto
to come up with an overtime win.
Like,
they were pushed.
Mm-hmm.
You know, and it's not nothing
that I think the coach made note
that they played a little bit more
the way he would like them to play,
you know,
a little bit more physical,
a little bit whatever
because they were without Riley,
Tanna, Vanilander.
And the team that's not as loaded
at the top end is,
you know without marna this year it's nice nice to see that they pulled through and they didn't have
all their horses what did you make in the macaabe hit that's fine uh yeah i mean borderline or okay
borderline yeah it was close it's close i think it was close but i will say i think tuck went in there
to be like hey you shouldn't do that and macape went okay and he went ah not quite what i had in mind
you know like because i saw bx uh they're talking about it in the panel after that period about
how he ended up getting the instigator and BXA didn't agree with it.
And I thought that, you know, he did instigate.
Instigate.
No, that.
Tuck's first instinct was to protect his player who's down.
That doesn't happen.
It's funny, though, and I didn't hear the BXA thing, but like the instigating event
is the borderline hit.
No, that's not true.
It's linked to fighting.
I understand that.
But you're right.
But like.
It started it.
Yeah.
It started the chain of events.
I understand it by how the instigator works.
That's not it.
But that is the instigation.
They had a great discussion between him and Elliot about with the gloves coming off first
is technically instigating because McCabe's gloves came out first,
but Tuck went over to him first and kind of grabbed onto him.
What, in fact, is actually instigating.
And it's that like the first sort of move towards it is.
That was a great conversation on the intermission.
But I was sort of like.
I'd get rid of it.
And I'd leave it towards that if a guy doesn't want to do it.
Right?
If a guy doesn't want to do it, then that's when the instigating should kick in.
But if both guys, like, here's the thing.
I've been in a few of these.
Somebody's got to instigate something first.
There has to be a first.
Yes.
There's no mutual one, two, three.
Let's fight.
Let's decide to fight each other together.
No.
Like there's no such thing of that.
So technically you can always find an aggressor
and then find that gray line on who it is and why it is.
Just get rid of it.
If a guy doesn't want to fight and a guy takes a punch,
that's instigating.
Yeah.
You know, for Tuck, though,
it's sort of like in Florida they have the stand your ground law or whatever.
Like if you go into someone's house,
they can shoot you.
Yeah.
You know, and it's like you go into someone's house.
Like, you're Jake McCabe, he doesn't know if he's going to get punched or not.
He has every right to protect himself.
He's standing his ground.
What I'm getting at is I thought the officials nailed it,
where they called Tuck for the instigator.
And then the instigator is an automatic 10-minute misconduct, right?
That's why he had to go off the ice.
Yeah.
And McCabe got the five for fighting, and there was a clean hit in the eyes of the official.
I just saw a lot of people be like, thanks.
They called the five so they could review it, got that right?
Nailed it.
Yeah.
All right, sweet.
Good talk, boys.
third line we've been kind of waiting
Dakota Joshua
yeah big goal coming
big goal and and just
coming along you know like I know it's not
never going to be electric or anything like that
but they've had the puck a bit more
they've been in the offensive zone
you can kind of see what it is
you do here sort of thing right
it's that was big for them
and I you don't want to get too excited
about anything like that as you said
they very easy could have lost
that game but yeah good things happen i think he can still push himself harder to be uh more
influential with a physicality and sometimes like i don't know his personality
he's uh he's got a good personality after he scores i know that yeah but i'd like to see that kind
of like raw motion before a goal you know not after celebrating one yeah it's uh i know
exactly what you mean.
I don't know that he is that way.
You know,
like I don't know that's...
That's why Vancouver got rid of him.
I think it's hard for people who are built like Joshua is built
when they don't want to play that way
or they don't see them as that type of player.
It's like, are you going to make him something he's not, never been?
Such a muffin.
We're just watching the highlight on our monitors here.
And that's a big time power.
That's a big man coming through the middle, right?
And is he just waiting for those moments because they're far and few, right?
Yeah, he's not going to score 20 doing that, I don't think.
He'll probably score 20 being where Nick was in that clip, more likely.
I would say it's been the last three games, though.
I've noticed him a lot more.
And, like, I think he looked really good in that game.
So I don't know.
Coach talked about him today, I think, yeah, clip five, Derek, on Dakota Joshua from today.
Yeah, I just think he's feeling more comfortable as it's going along here.
and what we expect of them, you know, straight lines.
You know, that line's been good for us, I think, you know,
strong down low with the puck, defensive responsibilities.
They go against, you know, they take D-Zone face-offs and things like that.
And, you know, they're doing a good job for us, providing, you know,
playing good defense, killing penalties, and they're capitalized and scoring some goals now, too.
So we need that secondary scoring.
Like, I know D-Lander's outlast game.
but Nick Waugh who we've been saying
you can't play him 11, 12 minutes a night
His last 15?
He's 14, 3 games ago
15 the game after 16 last game
And I'm noticing him ever shift
Yeah, he hangs on to it
Yes
He just likes to have it down there which is nice
Joshua 13 minutes is a high for him
Sorry his second highest game
You know a few of his earlier games
He was nine minutes per game
So his are ticking up a little bit
They're earning a little bit more
I did think it was funny
that I texted Simmer today
saying that it's nice to know that
the coach of the Toronto Maple Police
listens to your hits on Real Kipper I'm Born
because Saturday night
Nick Robertson goes on the top line
with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That was hilarious.
Scores immediately scratch and score
also referenced on the podcast.
What are we going to see
tomorrow night against Calgary?
Nick Robertson beside us to Matthews?
I think Willie's going to play.
He skated today. He didn't participate in all the drills,
but he did on all the special team stuff.
So maybe he'll be a field goal kicker
and just get out there for the special teams.
But no, I don't think it'll happen.
I got to tell you, I loved how that line looked.
That was a goal scores goal too.
It was.
He went to the right spot.
He played 1527 last game.
That's got to be the highest he's ever played in a hockey game for the Leaves.
Yeah, it's got to be close.
Yeah.
1440 the game before 15, 16 the game before that.
So, I mean, they've been using it.
Matthews gets the goal.
Friday night.
To me, he had a good weekend.
I know the numbers don't necessarily support it
with the numbers that we're accustomed to seeing him fill the net,
but he looks more engaged.
He looks more physical.
He's had the puck more for me behind the net.
Yeah.
Which set up the Robertson goal.
That's been a big request of ours around here, right?
Have the puck in the offensive zone a little bit more.
He's playing big minutes, though, and I don't know how much that worries you,
but he played over 23 minutes, almost 24 minutes last couple games,
which is probably not his sweet spot.
That's too much.
It seems like a lot.
But I did think that having Robertson and McMahon on that line
really made it feel like this had to get him skating more.
Both those guys are, like Robertson's fast, you know, Bobby McMahon's fast.
It just felt like having those two guys beside him really elevated his speed.
And I don't know, like I never thought I'd be sitting here telling you guys that I loved
Nick Robertson on the top line
with Matthews, but I...
To just its point,
no one's going to take it seriously
that he could hang there
be a winger for him all season long.
Right, which almost makes it not worth trying.
You think, you think...
Well, I mean, I'd like another look.
Yeah, after Nick Robertson has the best game
I've seen him play in a really long time
on his wing, maybe want to see it again?
Is that fair?
I guess it's fair, very fair.
Yeah.
yeah i i guess seven see seven games into a season you can say i'm i'm open to having a lot of looks
which we know he already has yeah but that's not going to get it done when you're facing
the florida panthers in the playoffs well yeah but it's october 27th it's not april hey we talked
to finding your own nathan lucas and your own whatever nick robertson's your candidate right
there six p m game tomorrow night which is love that entertainment
Good for Lee Stock.
Two guys, I think, noteworthy.
John DeVarres keep shooting it in the net.
I mean, that's pretty cool.
Listen, he's a very talented guy,
and watching him finish that goal was like,
it was an amazing shot.
It was a 600-foot effort.
Right?
He went back and forth three times.
Did you see Power just, like,
turn the puck square?
Like, he had it for the game winning goal?
Yeah.
That was the, that was a, JT, I think, lost the puck.
Well, JT came down.
Owen Power went down there, blew it up on his stick, and it just exploded.
And then Nyes hits JT for the breakway.
And he started skating and it was like, oh, Tavares isn't getting, he's getting caught in overtime, third time down.
I was like, how slow is Tage Thompson?
No, Tage isn't slow.
He's dead.
He just took the dumbest path.
He blew his shoe, he blew his shoe, too.
The route was awful.
The route was horrible.
Yeah.
He, I don't know what he did.
He came down.
He went left and then he came back again.
By then, by then, John was gone.
Let him get a shot off.
That was good enough.
I mean, yeah, listen, he's consistent as anyone's been, you know, I think for the last 15, 16 years.
He's been steady with his 70, 80 point.
He just finds a way to get his cookies.
But you keep waiting for him to not find a way.
And if this is going to be another year where he finds him, that's good.
I just, I would say
that we've had so many
Tavares conversations on this show over our
five years of doing this together, boys.
There we go.
Yeah, this is, this is the, yeah.
Oh, that's true. We have a full look at it here.
600 foot effort.
Here, it's all yours.
Oh, Tavares like, I guess I'll go.
Yeah, good pass by Nyes too.
Oh, he did.
So Thompson made a reach and that kind of lunged him out of
took a momentum.
But the boys love their three on three, eh?
Oh, the cookies.
The cookie monsters go out.
Cole Cawfield hour.
What I was saying is we had so many conversations over five years,
and we've always had to measure it against what he makes.
Really good point.
And now it's just like, I can just enjoy this.
That goal is worth $4 million.
I could just enjoy this freely without having to be like,
but all you got, you know, he makes 11 and a half minutes.
It's just he's now severely underpaid.
He's got 12 points already, boys.
He's got five goals.
Only one power play goal.
The rest are even strength, seven assists.
He's really good.
He's been carrying them offensively.
like he really has been so and he makes you know like he makes minimum wage basically for what he's
doing out there so good for him love it uh they've got the same record as they did last year at
this point yeah exact same exact same goal differential and then but but this is this is the time
they they kind of took off though right November they're typically red hot but
I think they went on to win like 12 of their next 16 games last year.
So I think everybody's probably had enough of this kind of look now.
They should be ready with maybe the comfort of that third line and maybe a few other guys
and the emotion of McCabe and Joseph Wall coming back.
They should be ready now to go to another.
level they've got calgary tomorrow and then an away game in columbus columbus philly they're still
staring at non-playoff teams from last year pittsburgh and then the red hot mammoth so is this now when
you expect them you see them go to another level i don't know about you know kib i haven't sat here on a
single show this year and been like i think they're about to get this a hockey team like i think
they're good and they're going to pull away from 500 over the next month yeah you know i think that'll
But I don't, I don't know.
There's a lot to be figured out here still.
What parts are you still?
Joseph Wall, Joseph Wall came back.
That was, I don't know, whether you consider that surprising or not.
We've got some update, Sam.
Do we have any audio on that?
We do.
We had some Trilliving clips.
He spoke to the media today.
He addressed it.
Let's start with the first one there, Derek, on Joseph Wall, clip one from Trilliv.
I'm not going to get into any of the issues with his leave.
I'm going to leave that to Joe.
at a certain time
and he'll speak with you
it won't be today
we're going to just let him get his feet under him
and when he's comfortable to take that step
certainly he will
really the plan
if everybody's looking for that is really
is just to get him up and going you know he's been off the ice
I should say he skated some
when he was when he was on his leave
but this is
just getting back in the team setting right
so it's the plan is
is really to watch and adjust on a daily basis here.
So he joins the team.
He skated Saturday, skating today.
So we're going to just sort of take a day-by-day
and integrate him in.
And a lot of it's just going to be based on how he's feeling, right?
That's interesting, just like the day-by-day evaluate, right?
Do you want to hear a timeline conversation?
Yeah.
About his timeline?
Let's do a clip three, please, Derek, on his timeline.
Like I said, we're just going to kind of go day-by-day.
I don't have a date circle.
I shouldn't say that.
I do have a date circle, but we'll have to see what it is.
And so you have plans, and then you'll alter them based upon how things are going.
But certainly, Joe is a big part of our team.
And it'll be good to have him back when he's back and playing,
but we're not going to rush it.
It'll happen when he's ready to go.
In case he's not a pretty good job, what date is he?
In terms of the LTI, yeah, I believe it's November 1st, but that he won't be ready.
He'll be ready, like that won't be an issue.
Like he's not going to be ready and have to sit out based upon his LTI situation.
Yeah.
So again, we'll see.
There you go.
Yeah, I don't know what he needs.
A couple games with Marley's.
Maybe he bypasses that.
I don't know.
But.
Tough to see that happening.
It didn't sound like he,
I don't know what skating meant.
Does that mean like actually just skating or did he take shots?
Just doing an oval somewhere and like a public skate?
Right.
Was he full equipment?
Did he take shots?
Did he?
You know, this is one of those things that like,
it's great that he's back.
I'm happy for him.
Hopefully he's worked through
whatever he was working through,
I think it's probably challenging
to just immerse yourself again
the fully moving treadmill of an NHL season
where, hey, we got to turn this thing around.
So I am curious to see how he's able to manage it.
I think there will be some challenges
and listen, this is a good goaltender.
He's been very good for them in big spots
and they could use a guy to come in, step in.
I don't know what you guys thought of Primo last game.
Okay.
they don't need Tage Thompson
to shoot one from distance over his shoulder
I mean he shoots
The other one went through him too
The one I, the three two goal was the one I didn't like
The other one was a snap
The 360 where he spun around and shot it through him
That's one I didn't like
Yeah
The first one was top of the circle
Guy went bar down I don't know
He's a pretty good shooter
But yeah I
This guy's better in Caden Bremont
Yeah that's kind of the conclusion
Yeah
It wasn't that long ago
When Stolars was
signed that I had
Joseph Wall as the guy.
Yeah, I mean, listen,
we were three weeks from
playoffs last year, we were still going,
who's the guy? We didn't
decide it was Stolars
at any point until late.
You know, Stolars got hot in like
April, like late March, April.
The issues with Joseph Wall is
he's had some
really strange
like issues.
Where are you? The post-game 6
back before game seven was an all-time
really really like out of the blue
yeah the start of last season
he was on the plane
to go open in Montreal he was the starting goalie
and then Hildaby showed up last year
last year yeah it's like okay
where did that one come from
and it's just there's been a few
recurring situations where it's like
he's here
and he's not here.
And that's, I'm sure it's been really challenging for him.
Yeah, and I'm sure they're working on that aspect of things for him, right?
Just some consistency and getting him what he needs.
You guys good on wall?
Good on wall.
Game time.
Yes.
It's game time.

I'm looking at the line for tonight's World Series game three from at Dodgers,
Stadium, Chavez Ravine.
I got to tell you, everyone loves Scherzer after the last game, and it is like, oh.
A little bit of a different lineup.
Well, you know who else?
No, who doesn't love them?
Bet 365.
Okay.
The Toronto Blue Jays, the Dodgers right now, are minus 200 favorites tonight in this game.
The Toronto Blue Jays on the other side of the money line is plus 165.
Pretty heavy underdogs for a World Series game.
Yeah, I think I like that.
I think going into this, no one expects the Jays to win this game.
I think, you know, it's a pretty big.
I think this is a game that most people would be,
as the line predicts that the Jays are going to lose this game,
all I would say is that you can't predict ball.
That sometimes unpredictable things happen.
Going into game, what was it that he pitched?
Was it game three he pitched?
Or game three or four that he pitched.
He pitched game four.
Everyone thought that that was not going to go well.
It ends up going well.
The Jays up winning that game and they turn it around.
That's after like a rough month or six weeks.
Maybe it was three because the bullpen game was four.
No, that was the first series.
Anyways, we're, yeah.
At least that one showed that he's got some of that sigh still in him.
Yeah.
Well, and he's a grimy, greasy old pro man.
Yeah, like he's.
And I, if I'm just quickly going to pull this up here,
Vladdy has yet to have a real moment in this series.
And, you know, he's used to do.
He was good in the first game.
He's, you know, he's been on base.
He had a nice double in game two.
But, I mean, that was pretty much anything they got off that Yamamoto.
Give me a Vladimir Guerrero home run tonight at plus 320 at Dodger Stadium.
I got a feeling he's going to, I guess it won't be night there yet.
I was going to say pound or into the night sky, but it will be still be daytime because it would be five o'clock first pitch.
Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So the light will still be out.
And imagine being so good at baseball that you're plus 155 to hit a home run in the world series like Shohei Otani is tonight.
155.
Listen, if you think it's going to go bad, you could do.
Make all the bets.
you want don't bet that you could do worse than
two home runs for Shohay Otani at plus
1100 anyways
that was game time because I'm at bet 365 visit the
athlete of odds and see why it's never ordinary at bet
365 must be 19 plus Ontario only please play
responsibly did the jays ever get the hat and
jacket back that Schneider said
no show hey says it was a gift
I just wish
that he wasn't so perfect
he's so funny and he's
so respectful and like
I don't know if you said did you guys see game one
where he hits the home run
and that makes it 114
and I'm watching him
and he's just sprinting around the bases
not showing any of just head down
sprinting around the base I'm like
could you stop being so perfect
there's a clip of him and they're chanting
we don't need you
and he said something like they don't want me
I may have heard this
that the pitcher Yamamoto was like
helping clean up after the game
I'm like good God man
that's so great
I hate carrying bags back to the band
yeah I'm like I hate how nice
You guys are.
Stop being so respectful.
Make me,
let me hate you.
Although Dave Roberts let me hate him.
Yeah.
You see that?
Yeah.
You see the manager of the Dodgers complaining about customs?
I'm not sure if there's any.
But it's an issue.
He walked it back today.
It's an issue for a lot of teams.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm sure the U.S.
Border agents were like,
we love the Jays.
Yeah.
We're going to make it really tough on it.
I'm not saying anybody did anything intentionally.
I'm just saying.
But he did.
That's what he said.
I'm not sure if there's any intent or not.
I know.
I know.
I'm just saying that we hear a lot of
in the NHL we hear about guys not wanting to deal with customs you know can i can i just
cry a single tier for dave roberts who's a cajillionaire who gets to coach a super team that's in
the world series that had to take an extra hour at customs yeah can i please just say one also listen
i let me get out the violin dave give me a break and like you know have some perspective frost the
border constantly like with the toronto marlies and they barely even make you get off the bus you know
they're like everyone's good yeah okay
I'm sure the Dodgers weren't exactly
how long ago was that
well five years ago
they weren't exactly changed
since then
yeah so and I don't
go to my ex account if you want to see it
everybody that's listening retweeted a video
from one of the gate 14 guys
Avery of Ernie Clement's high school
hockey highlights so
go have a look at that
oh he's snapping it in
he looks like a hockey better than me
that's for sure the best is George
with his green shoes and his
green gloves for the Hartford Whalers.
You know, awesome.
Yeah, so like that, is he from there?
Yeah, Connecticut. Connecticut, into Yukon.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. How cool is that?
That's super cool.
Yeah. And we never did talk about the Hartford, Quebec.
Oh, yeah. Look the other night. Yeah.
But, buddy, I'm telling you, it screwed me up.
I got a guy. I hate it. I hate it. I know the old 80s. And I'm like, what game am I
watching? Like, this was when I played. And it took me like four minutes to understand that
that was like a real game stolen like if you're from hartford or if you're from
Quebec you're like you don't get to do that that's our cash and checks on our name i did think
about that that's brutal cool it's all super cool those jerseys rock yeah like but we weren't good
enough to keep a team here but you want our god you're selling those 240 dollar pop sweaters
with our name on them all right termy give me a score jays jays are going to win a thriller
tonight it's gonna be 108 109
There's going to be a bunch of runs, a bunch of runs.
I'll go the other way.
I'll take three, two, jaser beams.
Oh, oh, I see what you're doing.
Low score.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Brilliant.
You've got to go five, three jays.
All right in the middle.
Nice safe pocket for you.
Can't be too wrong.
Our thanks to the big E, Eric Lindross,
Hall of Famer, doing terrific work for Easter Seals,
which we will be a big part of this season.
Yeah.
Our QR code will be up all next week.
so please if you get a chance
put some money my way
and if you got a few pennies left over for Justin
I'll want on the same place
enjoy the World Series
