This Hour of Real Kipper and Born brought to you by Bet365.
Well, get her going here.
For those of you just joining us, didn't catch us in our national hour.
We kind of left off the show with, you know, players going to talk to the media.
And sometimes it doesn't go the way they want.
Dan Kingerski, hope I pronounce that right, who covers the Pittsburgh Penguins,
just sent me a note that says
don't blast the PR department
for letting a player speak
everyone complains that players don't say
anything then when they do
can't rip or blame them
for letting them say it
that's what you're trying to say too right
I mean we've
I have said those exact things worse
to you like at least
no but I don't think that means
you know these guys should just go say
whatever they want and we're not allowed to be critical
of what they say to me
I think we want
an authentic vibe from a player.
I liked to speak to media in my time
as much as we didn't have the Toronto attention.
I like to let people know.
And first of all, Dan, thanks for listening.
Appreciate it.
And I do agree with him.
My point is, though,
if the PR department isn't on top of these situations,
then Calgary, Toronto, and Ottawa with their goal,
he's going to the press,
are 0 for 3.
on the effect it has on your club moving forward.
And that's their job is to go three for three.
I roll my eyes at that.
Why?
How are they 0 for three?
The Calgary's was stinky.
But they still stink.
Calgary stunk since he said it.
Stoleners and the leaps have been brutal.
They were going to stink either way.
No, they're not, Sam.
They're not.
It just doesn't help.
It could make it worse.
don't say it has no effect on a hockey club i i'm not saying it has no effect i argue with the
conclusion it has a negative it has an effect on the room and it and it's negative okay
all mark won the next game and he said we actually were mature now he fixed it i don't know i just
don't they need against cal they needed a come from behind and he was not very good to start
he gave up two two goals on six shots okay it was not good yeah that's just my point that
it's just be careful
I get it I get it
be careful I get it
it's it's you don't want to tear down
teammates and being a part of a
functional team is important
all right in a few minutes we'll welcome in head coach
of the Philadelphia Flyers Rick
Talkett who is also
Toronto guy big Blue Jay fan
Big Blue Jay fan I hope still
or did he go right back to the Phillies
I'm not sure
but we'll get his thoughts
as the Leafs
probably
have a tough battle on their hands
on a Philadelphia team
that may be slowly getting better
and we just had Doug McLean
on earlier. He talked about the maturity
of Zegreus and maybe he's
finally ready to
step up and be that
star that once
upon a time had him on the cover of a
video game. It's crazy like they're six
three and one. Zegreis is leading the
team in points with 12 and 10
games just really cool
and plus six too tops on the
team and then you're doing this while matt be mitchcock has one goal in 10 games he had an injury
and came into camp apparently not in great shape wasn't able to train the same way because of the
injury so cool that they're having the success they are um you know without getting big performance
from a guy they think can be their celebrini type take take breakout guy uh if you go to nchl
com and you sort the standings for the atlantic division your toronto may police last
I don't know if they're technically last.
I mean,
no.
Islanders are worse.
No,
in the Atlantic.
Oh,
in the Atlantic.
But I mean,
they are 500 along Florida and Buffalo.
Where are they in the East?
I didn't look that far.
I just looked at the Atlantic and saw them in dead last.
Yeah,
Boston technically has more points but is below 500.
But they're sorted at the bottom of the pile as of today.
And they've had slow starts before.
Yeah.
But no one in the last nine years,
10 years,
I've seen them like that low.
If you sort by points percentage, they are in second last.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It is a little bit of a strange feeling for Lee fans who are actually paying attention outside of the Jays.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, I think the standings are not nearly as spooky as the hockey being played by the Leafs.
The standings are you into hockey games, you're in third place.
You know, like it's not crisis mode.
in terms of points yet.
But it is crisis mode in terms of, gosh, it looks bad
and it's tough to see it turning.
Tanev, supposed to come back on Saturday night.
Feeling a lot better, yep.
Which is really encouraging.
Scott Lawton has been skating.
It sounds like he's going to return to the Leafs lineup,
if not Saturday, shortly thereafter.
I think those are both significant moves or additions, I should say.
Well, if you get the Scotty Lotton that we think is close now
to be in that.
guy.
He kills me.
Right.
He,
that start from the trade.
And maybe it was deep down, still not being able to kind of wrap his head around,
not being a flyer anymore because he loved being a flyer.
Yeah.
Maybe it took him that long to kind of get over it.
But I appreciate him as a player, but he were talking about a third or fourth line player.
They're going to need a lot more out of their line.
lineup to convince people that they can still
now keep pushing here for a cup.
So just some updates from the coach
because he spoke later, so I didn't get a chance to grab
the audio because we were on air. But Craig
Brubay says Scott Lawton is doubtful to play tomorrow.
Stephen Lorenz's day-to-day. Chris Tannov says
he's cleared protocol and is likely to play.
William Nealander says he felt good today
and we'll see how he is tomorrow. So we're on
a day-to-day basis with him. And once
again, fellas, the
lines have been thrown into a blender.
Your top line, Nize Matthews, Neelander,
Machelli, DeVarvis McMahon, Joshua
Wa Cowan stays together
Sammy Blay, Domi and Yarncrock,
Robertson, and Lotton on the outside
looking in, Riley, Carlo, Benoit McCabe,
OEL, Tanev, Stollars.
Projected to start.
Top line, loaded up.
I don't think Nealander should play
because it sounds to me
whatever's bothering him is nagging
and they've used
the word manage him.
And you know how I feel about 10 years.
in the word manage.
Yeah.
Manage means don't play the guy.
Get it.
Get it cleaned up here.
Keep them out seven to ten days, but.
Do they have seven to ten days with their best player?
I don't know.
Yeah, they do.
They have no choice.
They have no choice.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, there's certain times.
If this thing's going to keep recurring, it's a big problem.
Do we know what it is?
You have a thought?
I know Springer's oblique.
Yeah.
You know that?
He's going to have a tough time playing.
Hold on.
Are you just speculating about that or do you know that?
Because that's news if you know.
Oh, is it?
Oh, never mind.
I mean, I think we knew he pulled something aside, right?
That was not.
Whose side discumper?
You never know.
Well, could it just broke a ribs swinging hard?
Like, I think it's pretty clear.
They can say he's managing it.
Yeah.
Not the Leafs after 10 games.
That puts Bo back at second base tonight, right?
Good.
I don't know
I just
I'm going to tell you
it doesn't matter
it just doesn't matter
it's two games to win the World Series
just win a ball game
you can do it without Springer
or you can do it with Bow
wherever he's playing
just win the game
with the game I don't care
squirrel squirrel
oh yeah okay
okay says Andropolis over there
diehard fan going to the game
like we could talk J's
they're playing game 6th
the World Series pal
holy hell
um
yeah
they're going to see
a fairly quick team again, I think.
I don't know if they're going to be as fast as Columbus.
I found Columbus very fast.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, Tuckett's got them sorted out, right?
They're playing solid hockey.
They're feeling good about their direction, their culture.
It's all part of, you know, sort of a turnaround there for these guys.
And what I do like is the bets they've placed on a guy like Zegris.
Sounds like Jamie Driesdale playing some better hockey.
You know, that's going to be an important.
important piece for them.
I think a lot of Canadians were really turned on to Travis
Sanheim during the Four Nations faceoff and went,
oh, he's long and rangey and can make plays.
Moose skater.
Yeah, there's lots to like there.
And in a year where everyone seems the same,
like God, honestly, who's the best team in the Atlantic?
I don't know.
You know, I think you've got a shot.
They've got as good a shot as anyone as being a playoff team.
Unless we get Danny Breer on in January and he tells us,
no, we're not.
doing that.
We're not trying.
Like last year. Yeah, we're not going
for that. Okay, so you
mentioned the lines for tomorrow night, right?
Okay, we'll get into that
probably after we talked to our next
guest, Rick Tocket, head coach of the
Philadelphia Flyers and a guy
that we used to have on the show a lot.
But
he went for more money.
Back behind the bench. More than zero.
Way more money. Talk, how are you,
pal?
How are you doing? I don't have as much as you
no. Oh, I don't know about that. You know, I was just, I was teening you up. At the end of the day,
you know, you are still a Toronto guy, a Scarborough guy. And you got to be watching the Jays from afar.
Like, I know it's a hockey show talk, but I got to get your thoughts on, on our bar, our ball club up here.
Fun team to watch. It just goes to show you, close teams can go far. I mean, it's, I actually like Schneider.
I think he's done a hell of a job, you know, as a coach watching the way he deals with his players' communication stuff.
It's fun to watch.
So, yeah, I can't wait for the E-15 pitch, man.
Can't wait.
Do you guys have a lot of Canadians on your team, or is there players rooting for the Jays?
Yeah, we do.
We have a pretty good crew there.
They're also Philly fans, right?
When the Phillies are in the playoffs around training camp, most of the guys went to all the games.
They're pretty, the manager actually, Rod Thompson is Canadians from Sarnia, huge hockey fan.
He invited me to a couple of games.
So, yeah, it's fun to see Canadians do really well in baseball.
Talk, before we get into your team specifically, I want to get your thoughts on just how the city in Philadelphia has evolved.
I mean, we were once upon a time together leaving junior hockey, you and the state.
sue me in North Bay and going in the early to mid-80s as a Philadelphia flyer and
absorbing that culture then and then you came back to the flyers at the end of your career
and now you are as a head coach in 2025 and what have you seen out of the city that's
changed or remained the same yeah feeling is the same very passionate it's a gritty town
obviously they love their sports.
You know, speaking of the Flyers,
they've always had the tradition of taking care of their players.
You know, Mr. Snyder, one of the best owners, you know, in sports.
And now Comcast, Mr. Roberts, who owns it.
They're doing the same thing here.
They really take care of the families, that family atmosphere.
I can tell since I've been back what they're trying to do.
They're trying to get on the map.
You know, listen, the Eagles win the Super Bowl being how good they are.
The Phillies, you know, last three, four years, always been one of the top teams in baseball.
So, you know, trying to get off the back page.
You know, we're trying to get in the front page and, you know, get the Flyer fans back cheering our team.
So we've got a long way to go, but we're chipping away, Nick, we're chipping away.
Yeah, like three straight wins.
You guys are six, three and one plus six goal differential.
Positive things happening there for you.
To what do you credit the team's hot start, talk?
Yeah.
I would say the buy-in.
from day one.
The guys asked a lot of questions.
You know, they're, listen, they're tired of losing.
It's, you know, there's no secret that, you know, Danny and Jonesy started to rebuild a few years ago.
Now they're trying to transition to, you know, stop selling players now.
Can we acquire players?
That's the next level.
I mean, we still got a ways to go, but I got to give the players to buy it.
You know, they're trying to do the right things.
They're trying to understand playing these.
Like, we've been, every game's been a one-go.
except the national.
They were Winnipeg.
Most of our games have been one goal pressure situations.
It's so valuable for these players.
I think we're the fourth youngest team for these guys to play these pressure games.
I know it's only October, but the more games that we can play under pressure,
the better for the development of our guys, you know, for the Cates and Forrester's and Brinks.
And you go down the list of young guys, Mitch Koff.
So that's what we're trying to establish here.
Can we play under pressure?
So, talk, from the moment the Flyers entered the league, there was an association with some real star power, right, from Bob Clark and, you know, we lost Bernie Perrant, but, and then we went to our era with Mark Howe and Tim Kerr and they'll throw you in there.
And then it went to Lindrosse and Leclair.
And I'm just wondering now, is a guy like Trevor Zegris able to kind of make that step and take charge like.
that, like many of the greats I just mentioned, in the city of Philadelphia?
Yeah, you listen, he's a, you know, he's a dynamic player.
He loves, you know, he loves the spotlight, you know, so you want players like that to embrace it.
Now, you know, him coming to this year, he's actually had a couple of down years and, you know,
people have questioned his play.
So he's got a chip on his shoulder.
But he's really come in and, you know, the fans love him, you know,
because, you know, he can make a play.
He can score off the rush.
You know, he'll, you know, he'll make that spinner ram a backpass in a slot, you know,
like things that, you know, that I guess that's been missing here.
So, you know, he has, you know, he has a chance to capture that.
But he also has to know, like, you know, he has to know how to play the game the right way, too.
And I think he's really mixed in well with that, you know, you know, even in his practice habits are getting better.
You know, he just seems very dialed in.
And, you know, we're benefiting from right now.
So I know that there's bigger names for us to ask about, and we probably will.
But you're on during the Leafs Hour, so I've got to ask you, how's Nikita Grebenkin been for you?
What are your thoughts on him so far?
Yeah. Gee, I call him, gee, you know what?
He's been, the management love him here.
Danny and Jones, he really love him.
So, you know, I try to, you know, he's going to play tomorrow night.
trying to play him two or three games,
then he spends some times with our coaches on the ice
to get to speed some stuff.
But we got to play him
because I think he needs some ice time,
but he's done a really nice job.
Hashmark down, really good with a puck,
takes the puck to net,
not as scared to go in the corners.
You know, now it's learning the game.
The North American style of game is the next step.
You know, defensive reads.
Just his reading of the play is something
that we're going to keep working on,
but there's something there's something there.
There's something there that he's definitely a guy that can really contribute for our team.
As far as the blue line is concerned, talk, what have you seen so far?
Drysdale's a guy that came in with a lot of promise.
I know he's battled some injuries and then the trade.
What have you seen from him and the group collectively?
Yeah, I think when I got hired, Danny and Jonesy made a priority for, you know, they wanted
to Drysdale and York,
can we get them to play?
What are they?
What can they do?
Like, they weren't quite sure where they were.
They believe in them,
and I think they're right.
If you look at York and Drysdale from day one,
have really played well for the team.
Both mobile, both can make plays.
And the one thing for Drysdale, especially in York,
New York is a really good defender.
Drysdale has really been defending well.
You know, he hasn't been getting to scored the other
night and he's had a couple assists here and there but he's not i told him not even worried about it when
he's on the ice his analytics are great we're out shooting the other opposition most times when he's
on the ice and that's a good thing and he's defending well you know i think there's a tag on that
he wasn't a good defender he was shy out there well he's been the exact opposite he's been really
good defending and he's playing 24 25 minutes a night um you know he's a guy you know who is he
And I think he's a guy that can really eat some minutes
and be that mobile guy that every team craves, right?
You know, he's trying to find those mobile defense that can defend.
So looking through the roster this year,
a guy second on your team in points right now is your captain, Sean Couturier.
He's had up and down years there, almost a curious relationship.
It felt like with the coaching staff before.
And it's just sort of an interesting dynamic.
How do you see Cotrier where he is in his career now?
Yeah, you know, like,
Coots is a guy that, you know, if you look at the last 15 years or 12, 15 years,
you know, if you look at two-way sentiment, his name's always up there as a guy that can play both sides of the rink.
You know, he's a PK guy.
He can take draws and he can play power play.
So, you know, obviously last year and maybe the year before halfway through the year, things didn't go his way.
I think he really trained hard this year.
He's really got a, you know, he's the captain of our team.
You know, he's tired of losing.
so I think he's bought in more than, you know, he's bought in like all the guys,
but he's really buying into what we're trying to do here to turn the corner.
And I need him, like I need him to be the guy, that 200-foot guy, you know,
that, you know, when the teams are making a press, and, you know, we have a young team
and we get a little, you know, I call it get antsy out there, he can settle things down.
And I think he loves that role, you know.
There's been some games where we've been all over the map, the team's making a press,
we're running around, and he comes out there, he goes out there,
and it's that shift that calms everybody down.
So I think he's really embraced that role
and being the older statesman for our team.
We know he's battled the back surgery,
but he left last night against Nashville.
I take it he's unavailable this weekend.
Yeah, it's probably 50-50.
I don't think he'll be in.
But yeah, but it's not serious,
but be tough for him to get in the lineup this weekend, though.
One last player, I'll get your two cents on,
and I think you know what's coming is the Matt Bay Michkoff,
just one goal through 10 games, obviously supremely talented.
Is he showing signs of coming around for you?
Yeah, I think the last three, four games is best part of his game.
You know, he's playing more north.
I think when Meechon, you know, he came into camp,
not the greatest shape, and I think it was a little bit of an ankle injury
this summer I was told.
So, you know, it was hard for him some nights to really push the pace.
But he's changed a little bit in the new.
zone, he's skating forward a lot, and he looks faster.
You know, he's had a couple break with his last couple of games.
He's had some odd man rushes before he would catch a pass, and he'd be skating backwards
or he'd like to, we call it, you'd scoop the puck and go back, kind of that European
style.
And I think now he knows that for him to be successful to play a more north, listen, hash mark
down, be creative, do what you want.
I don't care what he does.
You know, he can, you know, if you want to take a guy one-on-one.
But in the neutral zone, things like that, I think he has to participate in a team game.
like you have to be careful.
Can't throw pucks in the middle of the ice all the time
and make high-risk plays or play a slow game.
And I think he's starting to, the one thing I love about the kid,
every day he comes to work.
He works hard in practice,
and he's knocking on the assistant coach's door and watching video.
The guy loves to watch video and ask, you know,
we have an interpreter.
We don't always use them because I think sometimes
you've got to be careful to use it interpret it too much,
but I think he's getting better of learning the language
and the hockey language.
So he's really craving that these.
information that we're giving them just one more quick one here talking we'll let you go i promise uh
the the goaltending situation we samuel's been there a few years and now vladar's there and just
in terms of these guys now and where where you're where the philadelphia flyer goaltending situation
is short term and long term um are these guys capable of of one day leading you guys to
challenge for stanley cup yeah i've got really commend them obviously been a lightning rod here and
for the last five, six years, the goaltending
and the power play. These are two subjects
to store subjects around here.
And I've got to give these two guys credit. Right from
day one, Vladar
comes in here, very
business-like, really good guy,
really good kid.
And he's given
a good start every time he's played.
He's played very well. I mean, we
honestly, the first two pairs against Nashville weren't
good. Probably had no business win in that game,
especially the first half of the game.
And he kept this in the game.
And Sammy, the last couple of starts, obviously, going in shootouts.
The guys, he's a money, you know, he's one of the best boys in the league at shootouts.
He made a couple of great stops for us to win.
So they've done their part.
Obviously, you know, we don't want to leave them hang to dry, so we've instilled, you know, a defensive system.
And hopefully that doesn't give them a lot of great A's.
But when we have given up, they've been there for the stop.
So give them a lot of credit to come in here and quiet the noise that, you know, that was buzzing around.
here before talk always appreciate you coming on our show man thanks for doing this
thanks boys take care yeah thanks good luck that is head coach rick tawket as he prepares
to face the tronelmape leaps tomorrow night i can act in canada 630 will be pregame i guess
i will say i desperately miss having him on our show god that's good content he was
he was but remember he just used to come away with so money and then he comes on he's just
I love hearing his voice
You know
Contrary to what he's campaign for
He tells you the truth
Yes
He gives you his opinion
Love that on Meichkhov
And he does it
He does it
Without
Like
causing any ruffles
He's very good at it
Yeah
And it's interesting
Meachov came in
In not great shape
And he's like
I guess he had an ankle injury
Like somebody told me
Somebody told me
What about Trevor Zegris
Did you catch that one?
Which part?
The one that
he said that
practice habits
are getting better.
I did catch that.
See, he didn't say he's no good,
they're bad.
Getting better.
He says he's getting better.
Which means he didn't say it,
but they were bad.
And like a guy making $5 million,
a guy that we all projected to be
like the next great
young player in our game,
i.e. cover of a video game.
And years,
That you hate that.
I hate that.
You know why?
Because you're old.
That's why.
No, it's not because I'm old.
Well, I'm old school.
You earn things.
You don't have them handed to you, Sammy.
Sure.
But you're trying to, I mean, you're not trying to sell old,
they're not trying to say video games to you, Kippor.
You're trying to sell it to young people, and he was doing cool things, and he was cool.
I don't, I'm like, I'm not a Zegris guy, but there's a reason they put him on a video game cover
because he was popular.
But it does change the perception of what he is in the league.
And if you connect.
Can you tell me one other person that was on a video game?
What do you mean?
Like, who was on another cover?
Pat Cain.
Okay.
That's right.
After he's won a cup, probably.
Yeah.
I don't know.
But Kip, you see guys getting the eight by eight contracts now who've played 80 games in the league.
It is happening a lot.
But I don't know how many of them, I don't know how any of them, like, the coaches feel about their practice habits.
I got another one for you.
I don't know if you guys picked up the Grubankin thing.
He was like, yeah, management likes him.
Yeah.
He's like, we're, you know, he's like, I got to play him to develop.
No, he didn't.
He said, we read between the lines so good on this show.
I got to play him to develop them.
I noticed that.
So we too, we're going to keep rolling them out there.
Danny likes him.
Keith likes him.
My bosses like them.
So I got to play him.
That's what I do on this show,
people ask me what you guys are like.
I'm like, you know,
fabs like Sammy.
Fair enough.
Before we move on,
because you wanted to talk about the lines more,
I just wanted to remind everybody
that Real Kippur I'm born
are playing in the Eric Lindra
Celebrity Hockey Classic
in support of Easter Seals, Ontario.
Nick and Justin,
along with other sports
that personalities, myself included,
will be taking to the ice
to raise money for this great cause.
You can support our team
fundraising by scanning the QR code on your screen right now
if you're watching on SportsSnet, SportsSet Plus, YouTube,

Scan that QR code, support our team.
I was talking with one of our boys from sales today, Kevin,
about who we're going to have on the team and all that.
It says people are donating.
People are sending in donations, so I'm really happy to hear that.
There's no, whatever you can do.
There's not too little or too much.
100%.
It's whatever the case is,
whatever you feel right,
He's much appreciated.
And goes to my Achilles' Reconstruction surgery.
You've got to stop with that.
I know.
I don't want to.
It's also not a thing that happens in hockey.
I mean, outside of Max Patcheretti, really.
Yeah.
I'm going to.
This is my first appearance since breaking ribs.
Oh, really?
You haven't on the ice since?
No, I have not been on this.
Oh, yeah.
The flippers are off.
Anyone in time?
Yeah.
Listen.
Oh, the sticks high.
Oh, yeah.
The whole day.
But you are you?
I'll never forget my junior.
hockey coach stick up we'll kill the penalty for you are you do you wear a mask cage i wear a visor
okay don't go cage i've got a visor on because i i want a cage i just haven't done it yet yeah i want a cage
once we saw we know we're going to be playing this when i'm here the broken nose or something
we had a bunch of guys on our team that had visors until my boy fears he got hit in the mouth of high
stick and knocked out his two front teeth and then everybody got i'm like i wore a cage of college
yeah yeah cage cage i just have a value anyways we can move on now i just wanted to make sure
and thank you for all those who've donated so far and continue to noting if you haven't already so thank
Lines you wanted to talk about before we got to talk.
Who does it look like is out Saturday?
Robertson and Lotton.
It's on the outside of the other side.
Also, Lorenz, too, right?
Lorenz is not playing, yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I like Nick.
I like Nick's energy.
I like his work ethic right now,
and I don't think it should be understated.
I agree.
I don't have got to scratch.
If you want to make it like a merit-based thing,
he works hard.
he had a couple of points last
game, I don't know.
Don't agree with that scratch.
I'm not that guy.
It's got to defend him.
Really frustrating.
Absolutely.
Well, he's maybe in one of the most frustrating positions in the league
because he's like, trade me right now, hang up the phone.
And they're like, we can't get enough from you or for you
and we'd rather have you because you're better than our next best guy.
So you're just stuck.
This is essentially what being an RFA is.
Is it not?
But you have no control.
Unless you just withhold your services, which you've already signed the contract.
Like he's not one of this team's 12 best forwards through the games that you've watched.
Yeah, sure he is.
For sure, yes.
Yeah.
So, coach doesn't agree.
Do you want to go to break and then we'll do game time on the other side?
Sure.
I just got to pull up.
I just love doing the calls.
All right.
I gave my, I gave Kipper my lineup, but I'll pull it up here.
No, no.
No, I got it right now.
All right, let's go.
It's game time.
Presented by Bet 365.
visit the app for the latest odds and see why it's number ordinary at bet 365 must be 19 plus
Ontario only please play responsibly pathetic I still have to read it quite frankly you know I was
actually just thinking that I was just saying it's kind of crazy I don't really know it either though
yeah so there you go so I I wonder what we'll be talking about in this edition of game time
I you know we're going to have to dive into hockey next javes minus 105 so let's look at it
from this perspective uh the futures how about the world series most valuable player
who do you think the favorite is
that'd be laddie yeah yeah mine is 200
the next favorite
is show hey otani
at plus 230
do you know who the next favorite is
kirkie kirkie is not the next favorite
the next favorite is yamamoto
at plus 1400
oh you plus 1400 yeah that's not happening
i mean if he
yeah i know but i'm saying it's not
if he treats the jays like the hashin tigers tonight
uh hey shout out to my good pal
Andrew Stoughton who dropped just so you know
statistic of the Dodgers have lost 10
of Yoshinobu Yamamoto's
last 19 starts. I like that
that's a good stat and Alejandro Kirk is
25 to 1 which to me
is like he's
a big dinner tonight pick someone off but this
is the thing no it's a
MVP it's a world it's a best player award
and if the best player is somewhat
it's only this series though it's in yeah
if the Js win it's
in Major League Baseball's best interest
to give it to Vladie yeah for sure
it is and and even the jays anything even close it's like tie goes to the famous guy and
captain kirk will be completely fine with that i think he'll be really happy with that and uh
for the actual line of the game well i just lost it here quickly sorry i'm pulling it back up
the tronal blue jays are plus 120 tonight's gone down a bit little money's coming on the jays
the la dodgers are minus 140 now tonight so still
the favorites tonight
because of Yamamoto on the mound
but yeah
pretty exciting stuff tonight fellas
pretty exciting stuff
so I'm glad I gotta do trick or treating
so I'm to have something to do
yeah I'm gonna go sit on my hands
so this
maybe crush a Coors lighter too
if I'm being totally honest
I gotta tell you guys that like
I've really enjoyed
like the BluJ run
tired but I'm exhausted
can you imagine if you're working it
and like doing the broadcast
every night and like
this is our last
last show, right?
Well, Monday, you'll probably be same hours.
I'm just saying it's our last show with the Jay still going.
We know it's going to end.
Yeah.
Saturday night.
Yeah.
So we're not sure.
Monday, if we're two to four, are we two to four on Monday?
Monday and then Tuesday, we move four to six Eastern.
Yeah, I mean, unless I don't know about.
Yeah.
I don't want to say these words out loud, but if there's a something where a lot of people go
in the streets, things could change.
Yes.
Yes.
We are presumably going back to our regular time slot very soon.
Yeah.
So bear with us for a little bit more Blue J talk.
Yeah, we're almost done talking.
We're almost done.
Well, who's almost done?
That was game time presented by Bet365.
Visit the app for the latest odds and see why it's never ordinary.
At Bet 365 must be 19 plus.
Ontario only.
Please play responsibly.
We may be coming to an end with all this Blue J talk this weekend, but I think on the leaf line,
we might get a little bit more, Sammy.
Couple, couple moments.
I can't wait.
A couple mentions.
You have your say on the Toronto Maple Leafs,
for those of you that have been paying attention
and spreading the love between the Jays and the Leafs,
we get your thoughts on our leaf line
when we return to Real Kipper and Bourne.
Everything you need to know about the Blue Jays,
Blair and Barker.
Be sure to subscribe and download the show on Apple, Spotify,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back to Real Kipper and Born, Leaf Edition.
This hour of Real Kippermborn, brought you by Bet365.
So you were saying off the air, you can tell between people that are rich or not by if they're going to the game.
No, I was just saying I'm surprised by talking to some people I knew that I didn't, I don't know.
And they're like, yeah, I just bought a few tickets.
Oh, bought a few tickets.
Like, oh, you're doing very well.
Way to go.
There's a chance that, like, a lot of these people had these tickets or season.
Well, I mean, they bought packages or so.
Very much so.
Tickets went on sale before the World Series.
And a few people just, instead of buying game one and two, they bought game six.
Buddy, I went on to buy game seven first and first.
And they were no cheaper.
Three hundred bucks?
Three hundred bucks each, four hundred bucks each.
There's 200,000 people in the queue.
So how many people got face value?
tickets. Not many. Mostly
bots probably got them, but
bots is the thing. Like
we don't need to get into it, but
the resale stuff has been pretty
sickening over this little bit, but we don't need to get
too much into that, but
yeah, I think, it's worldwide. Listen,
now, people are driving the prices up
from Europe. People flying home
or flying in. Spoken like a rich
guy.
I was talking about Kip when I said.
Can't Major League Baseball
cap? No. Well, I mean,
They can't, not to get into politics here, but recently they canceled the resale thing.
So, like, there's no cap on it.
So they can just charge whatever the hell they want.
And they are.
And people are paying it.
And there's rich chase fans.
And they get to go tonight.
So good for them.
And they're the same people that want to cap the baseball players on their next collective bargaining agreement.
I'm not even engaging that conversation today.
So you can have a free market for the fans on ticket prices, but you don't want a free market on the ball
players.
Nathan Lucas,
hitting second.
George Springer leading off.
The whole lineup,
buddy.
You don't like that conversation.
I don't see.
This is not the day.
Yeah,
I agree.
We're talking about tickets and pricing of tickets.
Can I do my,
can I read the lineup?
Can I do it as like if I was Ben Shulman or Dan Shulman?
Can I read it?
Yes.
Deaching and leading off for your Toronto Blue Jays.
George Springer.
Okay.
Stop right there.
Okay.
How good is he going to be?
It doesn't matter.
If he's ready to go, he's got to be in there.
60%.
He's been your-
swing at 60%.
You've been your MVP all year.
You've got to try it, right?
Yeah, he's in there.
So if he takes a couple of cuts
and he can't do it, then
he'll be so.
Okay, I'm good with that.
Yeah.
Left field, hitting second.
Nathan Lucas at first, hitting third,
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
At second, hitting cleanup,
Boba Chet.
In center, hitting fifth,
Dalton Varshot,
hitting sixth,
Alejandro Kirk,
catching, hitting seventh.
In right field,
Addison Barger.
Ben Shulman's job is safe
hitting 8th and playing third
Ernie Clement and hitting 9
playing short step stop
Jimenez
That's it buddy that's the 8-line-up
They can't do much better than that
No no no no that's it
That's nailed
Let's win a world series
Let's start
Can we do the calls?
Yes
Let's start with John Doe in Toronto
Hey guys
I'm just wondering if
The Jays
jays, the blue jays.
Do the J's and Jays, Jays, or do the Jays and Jays, blue Jays, the Jays?
You know, because the blue Jays, blue Jays, and blue Jays, so the Jays, blue Jays, so does that mean
Blue Jays, Blue Jays, Jays?
Yeah.
Thanks, guys.
Jay's Jays, great chill.
I love that.
What am I missing?
He just said Jays a hundred times.
It's funny.
So does that mean Lou J?
It's all we're talking about, baby.
It's all that matters.
The only topic.
I love that call.
I do too.
That's really good.
Can we get to a real one?
Yeah, sure.
Let's go to
Alex from Nova Scotia.
You know, this team doesn't look like they're getting coached.
And there's a guy out there.
He's a pretty good coach.
Just throwing that out there.
just throwing that out there is a free trip to the conference finals awaiting and losing in game seven no he wins every game seven but it hasn't
coached in the finals i do not see a coaching change anywhere i'm just saying that's on the horizon but i will say
this people are calling in on october no no for sure and those calls will not go away until they
straighten a few things out and is he's craig or brad tree living or
Keith Pelley, they're just going to have to deal with it
until they start seeing the team
that they think can compete.
Yeah, I mean, he's been the coach for 13 months,
you know, not too long.
And also, once they moved on from Shanahan,
it felt like Craig Bureubi became a bigger part of the organization.
It felt like Keith Pelley welcomed him under his wing
and is one of the...
This didn't difference make influencers.
His team is run right now by Brad Tree Living and Craig Broomie.
Right, they are...
Whatever department, how big...
ever big the department is it's just funneled right down to those two guys yeah i don't have a
problem with that i i get the first thing because i've said earlier that i haven't seen the buy-in
from this team we had rick tockin come on say what have you liked about your team he said the buy-in
one team's winning one isn't that's part of his job now well there is pressure right now on
Craig and Brad and I think it's equal to because Brad
I know he
he feels like it was overstated
the DNA comment
but change the words
whatever you want to call it
they've gotten softer
they've they've gone
softer not tougher and even though
you went bigger with Nick Waugh
and Dakota Joshua
like they're not
there's no physical presence from them whatsoever.
Joshua, to me, looks like a guy that wants to handle the puck
and make plays and score goals,
which is fine if you can do that,
but if you can't,
then show that other,
that gritten in your face type of guy
that they think that they,
they traded for.
Yeah,
it's fine,
it tough to argue that.
That's not an element of either their game.
Yeah, I don't know.
I had someone write me and say that maybe he didn't mean,
changed the DNA but changed them to DNR
said do not resuscitate
I thought that was bleak
I was like oh my god
tough fans out there right now
let's go to Sierra from Wyoming
before the season started
I decided that mental torture wasn't
torture enough and that
my average running body was going to run
one kilometer per goal
against the Leafs this year
and in truly fashion
in one regard
They have not let me down in my running goals
And I have now completed well over 70 kilometers
From the beginning of the preseason until now
So at least by the end of the year
I might be in great shape
Can't say the same for them
Anyway, happy Halloween
Go J's Go and hopefully the Leafs figure out here soon
Bye
What an arbitrary metric of how much you're going to run
That's so funny
Preseason seems harsh on the old bod.
We heard Rick Talked earlier in this show talk about Mishkov about conditioning.
We should have been doing that.
Do you watch the Leafs at all and question whether some of those guys are in shape or not
and whether they'll ever be as in good of shape as Sierra?
Yes.
Every night.
Really?
I will say I have genuinely had that question.
You know, we've had multiple days where they're like, oh, they're not practicing today.
And it's like they don't seem to have that extra push and maybe they're not fast.
We've talked a lot about maybe they're not a fast team,
but I don't know, that can be part of it
if you don't have the extra legs late in the game.
I mean, you can point the finger at a lot of things,
but that one has to be one of them.
Yeah, that's something you can take care of too.
And I'm curious, it's just tough in season.
Like, when do you put the boys on the line?
Can't even practice.
Barely get any practice time now with a condensed schedule
in the Olympics, and it ain't getting any better.
She's going to be a marathoner.
here uh let's go
to jared in hamilton
please i was at the least game against the flames on tuesday
with only uh suits and sickos in the crowd obviously
and when they had the leif's troops the guy presenting
the leif's alumni for the game was jake gardner
and there's an audible groan in the crowd and just got me wondering
who do you think would be the worst received leaf alumni to present the jersey
to the teams thanks boys and go jays
I presented a week ago.
I thought for sure he's going to say me.
No, you got some love.
You got lots of love.
I don't know.
I didn't see that.
Did you see the video of it?
Yeah, lots of love.
What game was it?
Rangers?
No.
No.
What game was it?
Before Calgary, Buffalo.
Oh, the Saturday against Buffalo.
Who would be the worst received form relief?
Mitch Marner.
It would be a tough one today.
Today it would be a tough one.
Vince Carter's jersey hangs in the rafters at Scotia Bank Arena so if anything's possible.
but right now it wouldn't be great that's it's tough it is tough for some of these guys with
because you know minus three i think in boston or minus four jake listen like it's it's still
kind of fresh in a lot of people's minds it wasn't minus four it was minus five oh gosh here's
what i'll tell you trying to help him here's what i'll tell you i will help him and who gets
off the hook in that so hard is frederick anderson who led in three or four beer league
in that third period.
And poor Jake Gardner, who was miscast playing 20 minutes of light against the Bruins,
had to eat it.
So we found a new player that we think might have a tough time.
Freddie?
Freddie.
Yeah, I'll never forgive him for that.
His playoff stuff, elimination games is like the sneaky first real problem with this team.
Yeah.
Where, like, they never got a big game.
Jay Gardner.
No.
Jay Gardner could fly.
Jake Gardner was so talented.
He was a breathtaking skater.
So talented.
Oh, yeah.
That, you know, Todd.
about the guy that could cradle the puck at the line
and fire it kind of cross seam, he was that guy.
At least power play could use.
Oh my God, Prime Jake Gardner right now.
But I will say, for my Leaf fan friends listening,
like the core of many group chats
is disagreements about Jake Gardner.
Oh, yeah.
You're like people who love Jake Gardner
and people who hate Jake Gardner.
It's been one for a long time.
Let's go to Rick from Prince George, British Columbia.
Go, Cougars, go.
Hey, listen, full disclosure, I'm not a leaf.
fan, but I am a hockey fan, and I'm just curious, did the Maple Leafs give Matthews that sea a little
too early?
I believe that ever since he put it on, he's been weighed down, he's tethered to something that we
can't see.
Anyway, great show, happy Halloween, go Jay's go.
Love you guys, Rick's a real Kippert-born fan.
Love you guys.
How nice is that?
Really nice.
Love you too, Rick.
We love Prince George, BC, too.
And shout out the Spruce Kings.
That was the Junior A team.
What a great team name.
I think
unless we see a major change in
the way
Austin goes about his business,
this will be one of the most debated
things in a long time
when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Can I give you, I'll throw you
just another knuckle curve onto this whole thing.
Everyone's talking about, okay, Mitch Marner left.
That's one thing.
Okay, it happened when he got the captaincy.
One other thing that he no longer has
is Sheldon Keith.
And now he's playing a totally different system.
And the second they've started playing this direct, straight, whatever,
he's not been as effective.
So do you think it's just a chemistry thing between Austin and his head coach right now?
No, I'm saying the system the coach employs changes where he is on the ice
and how he touches the puck.
Which is not a good thing in general for him.
We're trying to pull in all the potential factors.
Like that one doesn't get brought up very much,
but they're doing different things than they were.
and he was having a lot of individual success.
I don't know if that has a factor or not.
The C thing is, he's kind of never been the same.
Yeah, but same with Keith, same with Marner.
These are all the same.
But Marner was good last year.
Yeah, Marner found a way under Craig Barubi's system
to put 102 points up on the board.
DeVarice was great last year under him.
Willie, great.
I don't know.
There's something to it if you're asking me.
It's a lot of pressure, man.
Whatever case, it's not working for him, right?
So it ultimately has to fall on, I believe, the player for sure, to just find a way.
The last caller I have is just too much of a Debbie Downer, and it's just...
No, no, no, no, no, no, vibes.
Yeah, so we're done with calls.
So we got, that's our calls for today.
Let's play the first call again.
Just the first bit of the first call that we had there.
John Doe from Parts on.
Hey, guys, I'm just wondering if, uh,
The J's, Jays, the Blue Jays.
Perfect.
That's all we need to hear.
Jay's, Jays, Jays.
Blue Jays, Jays.
Kippert.
Are you going to be okay if this thing goes to seven games?
No.
No.
Flat out, no.
But I mean, I just...
Would it be an 8 p.m. start on this?
Yes, Saturday night.
There is a saying.
Long time to sit around.
There is a saying out there that was long before I got to experience it.
The fourth win, closing out a series, is the toughest one.
Yeah, it's almost like they had to do it in Yankee Stadium
and then had to come back from, you know, down two in the seventh inning
of an ALCS game.
It's almost like they've closed games out before.
Had to win the division on the final day.
Had to beat the race to get it.
They've answered every question.
This is a bigger question that they need to answer.
And I believe they will tonight.
I do.
Yeah, man.
I feel good, too.
It's just.
I feel good, too.
You know, they say there's no momentum in sports,
but it's impossible to watch this Jay's team
and not feel like what they're doing is something real.
Destined and destined.
Yeah.
Like, they talk about vibes, man.
I've been watching.
Of course, you're watching the clips of Joe Carter from 93
where he hits a walk-off home run.
Like, that doesn't play tonight.
It's on the table.
They have a home game with a chance to win the World Series.
like if it goes into the bottom of the ninth inning tied
there's legitimately a chance
that order they got right there any of them when Joe Carter
who's your pick when Joe Carter hit where were you guys
barger where were you guys
sitting on my living room floor as a five year old
yeah I was I was 12 and I was at my house
running up and down the stairs of our house
I was in the bullpen a Washington Capitol
trying to listen to the game on a bus
no way really and I was the cool guy
because I'm the only one with a Sony Walkman
who had AM and FM.
Wow.
Whoa.
Mr. Technology.
Go, Jay,
and I was giving everybody updates.
That's awesome.
Okay.
How's that?
Blue Jays.
Let's play.
No reason at all
to change the channel
from here on end.
There he is.
It's Sports Nat all night long.
Coming out of the pin.
Go, Jays, go.
Have a great weekend, everybody.
We're back on Monday.
Thank you.
