And I guess you wouldn't be watching this on TV if you're here. I mean, if you're in the States, if you're watching on TV here, that's fine. But if you're watching this on YouTube,

Starting point is 00:03:40 Charlie boy, Nick Richards there today. I saw that be a little quieter Maybe a little quieter against the angels, but fill it up a fun blast down that beautiful night Gossman tweeted hey grab your flip-flops and something blue come on down. So yeah plenty of good season I'll have to turn this into a Blair and Barker show here, but like do it you try fourth, but I haven't thought about hot You it's all okay. I'm Eric. I picked your brain. I've picked your brain since the beginning of basically training camp for the Blue Jays You know, it's all hot dogs. I picked your brain, I've picked your brain since the beginning of basically training camp for the Blue Jays.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of team are we gonna have, you're like, eh, eh. They sweep the Yankees, they take over first place. There's no going back now. You can't go back on, eh, eh. You gotta be all in now like you were with the Leafs. Can I tell you something right now, Kipper? It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's the last, you're not gonna listen to one show I do all the time. No, no, no, no. See, it doesn't matter to you at all. I don't care. He's talking generally. I'm just telling you, I'm just, there's no bailing on you now. Kipper, they were horrendous last year and I watched 120 games.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Like, I watch every game no matter what. I'm an addict. I love baseball, I love the Jays. So, now that they're good, it's a bonus. I'm all in I am all in maybe playing a little head of their okay We'll get into a ton of stuff with the with Doug McLean including Thank thank goodness, thank goodness when I played They didn't make us go to
Starting point is 00:05:07 They didn't make us go to development camp at the end of June. I can't think of a worse thing for these draft players now. And I get it. It's their dream. They're part of the NHL. There's so much raw emotion for it that they're shot out of a cannon, I'm sure. But it won't be very long before they realize like this is a job. And like seriously, the season's not long enough. They make us go and do a development.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I guess it's like get your workout plan early in the summer so you can do your thing. And also get to try to tame a wild horse, which apparently the leaves are too. It's apparently a thing. Listen, I'm okay. I know our first guest. I know Doug McLean is on and he's listening. I'm actually scared to hear what he says about the Toronto
Starting point is 00:05:58 Maple Leafs bringing in a horse. We're great wrong guests to be horsing around. Everybody knows about it. We're great wrong guests to be horsing around everybody knows about it the whole hockey world knows that they brought in a horse trainer and a horse I guess to Do what I'm not sure I think they're gonna try to tame a wild colt
Starting point is 00:06:25 Doing how to handle their emotions do we off limits Doug on on the horse story? I'm just bring them up. What do you think yay or nay to that story? Oh go away Doug McLean former NHL president GM and head coach and one other thing before we start with Doug We're gonna do 595 90 text right so if listen it all year long You've given us some text messages. I want to hear at the end of this show ways to improve the show. So if, if our next guest on a Friday is a little too hard on your head after a long week at work, make a suggestion. We'll move him to a Tuesday. He'd be all too happy to get away with it.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Here he is Doug McLean former NHL president. So let's get something straight. Sammy is going to be doing a show by himself this summer? No he's going to take some time off. Yeah I'm off for two weeks. I thought you said he was going gonna have a show for the summer and I was gonna say he will he'll be host I was gonna say lose my number. I Wouldn't join the horse business is is a great business by the way, as you know, I've been in the horse business As I used to say to my father-in-law he spent $25 giving Jill a lesson when she was a kid and He spent $25 giving Jill a lesson when she was a kid. And since that time, we've had as many as five horses in the family.
Starting point is 00:07:49 And it's been a big part of our life. So I just want Keith Pelley, I want him to be aware that daughter Mackenzie has two horses. And she's a great equestrian rider. And she would be a great hire. I just wanted to get her name in the fold if they're looking for more horse people. It could offset a little of the expenses and I would like to
Starting point is 00:08:17 see some Toronto Maple Leaf checks coming into the house also just Mackenzie McLean you can get her through me and And I think she'd really, she's not a big Leaf fan, but she might turn if she got a chance to. We never left a Bob Baffert. So, so, Matt. Well, that's what I was gonna say. I thought it was Baffert they were bringing in, you know, from the Kentucky Derby,
Starting point is 00:08:40 because he's a guy that they need, they need some juice into this lineup. Oh gosh, oh gosh. Because he's a guy that they need they need some juice into this line Oh gosh, so I had Bob Babbitt's name down. I wasn't gonna say it born until you brought it up I did Google it to make sure I got it, right? But anyway, look I think look try anything hold on hold on hold on riders a great team, you know, so as a horse expert here, like what are they grasping on? So it's a trainer and his horse,
Starting point is 00:09:11 and it's to show the young kids how trust can be worked out between? Well, a horse and the rider become a real team, you know? It's teamwork, and it's, you know, like you're right. It's compatibility is working as a group. It's, you know, being a team between the horse and the trainer and like, I'm not serious. I think it's the craziest thing. Like, geez, he really...
Starting point is 00:09:46 When I said on this show they need a real horse in their lineup, I didn't mean... Matthew Nyes is what you meant. More Matthew Nyes. Yeah, that's what I meant. So, I don't know... Shane Doan's a horse guy, I think. Would he be behind this? Ah, it's, whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Wickenheiser and Goyette and Doane, according to the article I read, teach the guys how to handle their emotions while they're trying to contain a wild, I don't know, whatever. Okay, like give them a check mark for thinking outside the box. Sure, it's all made up anyway.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Outside the stable, if you will. Yeah, I think it's fun. It's fun for the kids to come in. I used to take them out to dinner or something. They'd take them to a horse barn. Like I'm sorry anyway. Look, I just, I can't, oh shoot. What's
Starting point is 00:10:48 No, no, you know what it's the pension society And much y'all one one of the one of the teams that I get my pension check from miss Miss fired this month. It didn't come so I thought I better check in that. I thought it was an alarm. One of the teams. That's right. It was an alarm for your meds. All right. So we're okay. July 1st. First of all, Mac, some, I got the impression that some teams were under pressure to do something to show progress. Is this one of the best times to do it or one of the worst times to do it? I look at Ken Holland we had on yesterday. He made significant moves, spent significant money, you know, came out of the shoot hot on July 1st. Boston... Did you say moves or significant moves? Significant moves. So look, I was at the draft as I told you and I'm serious. It was a disaster.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Okay. What was a disaster, Mac? A lot of kids went home happy. What was the disaster? It was great for the kids, but the goo goo dolls and company, I just, like enough already. But July 1st, I was really excited because there's no, like when your team building or team construction is done by the draft and free agents and waivers and trades, that's the four ways you build a team. It's a big, big day, both of them, you know, in one week. And, you know, I look at what went on and it was kind of, I don't know, I'm having a hard time trying to pick a team
Starting point is 00:12:37 that really had a good day, you know, it'd be bad, bad numbers, bad contracts, way too much term, which we always have. But I'm having a hard time saying, okay, who improved? Well, has Montreal give them a chance to make the playoffs? You know, are they better because of it? Well, if the kid, if young Russian really takes a big step and he replaces Laine in the power play and you know Dobson can play in his own end and be a solid guy. We know what he brings offensively Montreal maybe look like they could they could challenge for a playoff spot so other than that Islanders I thought I thought Darcy's done a pretty good job
Starting point is 00:13:16 in early going and on the island you know with some moves so other than that I'm hard pressed to to see who really helped themselves a whole lot. I mean, obviously, Florida got everybody done, which was a big thing. Toronto has got a lot of work to do right now, in my opinion. I mean, look, I love Wah. I think he's a really solid third line guy. He's a 15 to 20 goal scorer. He's a big body. His feet were always a little bit of a problem. But he's overcome that a little bit. And so I like that. I mean, all of a sudden you got Matthew Stavaris-Wa. It's a pretty
Starting point is 00:13:50 good look in top three. So I don't mind that, but there's some, there's other work that's got to be done and I don't know who's out there. Mac, the other team who probably was more aggressive, I guess, just by comparison around the league was Carolina. They've been in the conference final two years at the last three. Did they improve for you? Do you like what they did? Yeah, like, look, Ehlers is a solid pickup for them. You know what? Here's my problem is who's going to be their goaltender.
Starting point is 00:14:21 We've watched it for five years where they're all they get to the Contras final and they can't compete goaltending wise with who they're playing against with whether it's Florida or you know whoever. I mean I just you know you know Freddie Anderson's a good goalie, the Russian kid's a good goalie but they're not they're not Stanley Cup ready goalies and that to me has been their biggest downfall. I know the price is right with them, but come on, if they want to contend, that's where they got to be a lot better. Let's turn the page on the Edmonton Oilers and they kind of cleaned up a little bit of their salary cap with Kane and Arvidsson gone and Corey Perry gone and your thoughts on
Starting point is 00:15:03 Bouchard at 10 and a half million for four years and and where is this Connor McDavid story going for you Mac? Well look it's really interesting you know Dobson's deal made Bouchard another million dollars. I mean Dobson, I happen to like Dobson, he's a PEI Somerside kid and he's one of the nicest kids you'd ever meet. He didn't play very well in his own end on the island and he's got to improve that. He's going to become more of an all-around guy. We know what his offense is, so I like that. Edmonton, Bouchard, I mean, they had to give it to him, I guess. I mean, he was he was real good and he was real average. Edmonton cleaned up their salary cap.
Starting point is 00:15:50 But like, where do they go in goal? Like, I'm here in Skinner. Like, there's a lot of head shaking going on there. Skinner may even want to be moved. He may want to go somewhere else to give himself a chance to become, you know, to step out and become the guy. I think there's a major, major question mark.
Starting point is 00:16:10 And I feel for the kid, you know, he battled through a lot of adversity to get there. But to me, they've got to make a change there somehow, some way. And who is it? But I'm loving the free agency next year with McDavid and Kaprizov. Like people are talking about Capri's up What is this guy gonna get paid in in Minnesota? Just just on that like when when a team comes publicly out months ago, maybe even half way during this season and says
Starting point is 00:16:42 Capri stuff We're gonna match anything. We're not going anywhere, we'll pay him whatever it takes. And then July 1st comes and he's not signed when you've publicly already said, we'll give you an open book on your salary cap and he's not signed. What kind of message is that now?
Starting point is 00:17:04 That message is that I'm gonna wait it out and I'm gonna go where I wanna go. If I wanna go to Vegas, I'm gonna go to Vegas. If I wanna go to LA, I'll go to LA. If I wanna go to Montreal, you know, and they deserve that. The players have that right. It's been negotiated.
Starting point is 00:17:20 There's nothing wrong with that. Everybody, okay, hold on. There's nothing wrong with making out your contract. Hold on. There is something wrong with that. Everybody, okay, hold on. There's nothing wrong with making out your contract. Hold on. There is something wrong with that because Mitch Marner just did that and he's getting killed. Yeah, well, that's too bad. He's getting killed, but he's got the right to.
Starting point is 00:17:36 That's the CBA negotiated that. By the way, the CBA, like, were they, I mean, did they, it was not a good deal for the players? Have you guys broken that down Actually, they can wear they can wear flip-flops to the game. Oh my god. What didn't you like man? Seriously? Marty Walsh come in you how many how many years has he been in the job three years and and what did he come up with? One last year on a contract was there anything else you got? Oh and and a dress code. That's right. I forgot about no No, here's the best one here's the best one no fitness testing yeah well that was weird for me what does that mean allowed to test if
Starting point is 00:18:15 your players are fit what do you what are we doing this test the fitness test was always the greatest they I remember doing it I remember doing it with Mike Gardner in Washington the Washington Cap. And so Mike Gardner be doing his dips, you know, the dip bar and you know what kind of athlete and condition he was in a neck. Wow. Listen, he scored 600 goals. 700 goals. Come on. Mike got to 27 on the dip bar and he stopped and he said, and he was hanging there and he said, Doug, well well how many did I do last year I said 28 he did two more and jumped down hey he improved you don't even get to see that now at least at least Mike improved by one dip now you can't you can't do it at all yeah no I know it's
Starting point is 00:18:59 so it's you know what like he's not look well you know to work out This is it if if you didn't do a thing all summer, right? At least the guy that doesn't do a thing all summer, you know Doesn't have to kind of feel embarrassed about it now, but I will say like Mac They didn't okay Marty Walsh didn't get anything But what they got was labor piece in a skyrocketing cap, right? Like what else do they are isn't everyone pretty content with things right now I guess they are but I thought there was two or three areas that they got good you know they're losing a year on the contract that's is that not a big issue
Starting point is 00:19:37 they got what do they lose point one point one five percent off the HRR was that was that what it was that they gained on? I think there was some other issues there. I thought that Betman and Daley did an unbelievable job for me. And the way they kept peace, I guess you compliment on that. Well, when you look at the contracts that were given out this year, you got to say the game's in a good place. I would love to know where the owners are financially. I keep hearing that, oh, everything's great, everything's great, a billion dollars for a new franchise. I'd love to know the financial health
Starting point is 00:20:16 of a lot of franchises, I really would. And I keep hearing rumblings and I don't know if it's accurate or not. You know? Mac, $2 billion is what everybody's saying for expansion now. How can it not be great? Because I know of teams that were sold that were losing 28 and 30 million and they've sold for a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:20:40 Because obviously it's a different business. Now look, there's some franchises that are doing unbelievably well. We know that. When I left the NHL, there was 17 teams losing money. So I suspect it's improved. I'd love to know how much and the real health of the league. I really would. And I guarantee you,
Starting point is 00:20:59 there's a lot of teams that are hurting. Guaranteed. I mean, that would be fascinating. You think those teams would just sell their franchise and get very, very rich. NBA teams are changing hands a little bit more frequently now that valuations are so bizarre. But the thing we all forget about is there's a thing called capital gains that you have to pay.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Think about Columbus. They spot the franchise for 80 million and and now it's worth a billion? I wouldn't want to write that capital gain check. You'd have some money to do it, which would be nice. Hey, let me ask you about another player though. Is the one that we never talked about in this show, which is really bizarre, Jonathan Taves signed a, you know, for like pretty substantial money.
Starting point is 00:21:43 He could earn up to a7 million over the contract. What are your thoughts on that? He was just introduced as the... Yeah, today he had a presser. I just saw him getting off his private jet in Winnipeg, so it was nice. Look, Jonathan Tave, since I watched him at the World Junior and as a young kid in his draft year, he's always been one of my favorite players. And what he did in Chicago, and I mean, look,
Starting point is 00:22:10 Patty Kane was obviously a great piece there, but Jonathan Taves to me was the glue. He and Duncan Keat. I love the pickup by Winnipeg. I really do. And with this guy with the heart and, you know, hockey sense that he has, missing a couple of years, I think he's going to be a real good asset to the team. I really do.
Starting point is 00:22:31 And I think it's a great sign for Winnipeg and I hope it goes really well for him. He's one of my all time favorite NHL players. You're watching and listening to Doug McLean, former NHL president, GM head coach, and Off the rails Friday. Mack Brock Besser back to Vancouver. You know, for something that appeared pretty sour in terms of the negotiations all year and then to have been on the block for a trade and then only to have your team say Really Couldn't get this for him or you know, the value wasn't as good as we thought for him and
Starting point is 00:23:11 he ends up signing back there over seven years or seven years at over 50 million dollars and I Would imagine that there was ample reasons for both of them to really be pissed off at each other or Hold animosity towards one another but they didn't and I actually tipped my hat to Brock Besser and You know Vancouver for saying Okay Where we were then and where we are now are two different places and we're good if you're good and let's move forward here. It doesn't happen too often. I can tell you that once, once you're, once you're pissed off. I came on this show today thinking, okay, it's the last show, the last
Starting point is 00:23:57 you're not going to ask for a raise. Are you? And, and I don't, I don't want it. I I've trended in Vancouver a few times this year because of this show and I really don't want I've trended in Vancouver a few times this year because of this show And I really don't want to trend right now You're almost clear, you know about the no Canadian rule out there and you know Demko I made comments about demko all of a sudden they give him what they give him 20 million a year Seriously, I haven't read I can't remember the last time he played Seriously, I can't remember the last time he played. But anyway, I'm going to couch the conversation because I don't want to offend anybody in Vancouver.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Oh, stop it. I just look at what's going on and I can't figure it out. You're right, Besser. I mean, I would have bet any money he was going somewhere else. And then I see Toronto tried to sign him. So you got a choice. You're going to go to Toronto or Vancouver. You know, I kind of surprised.
Starting point is 00:24:54 I thought Toronto would have a chance to get him. But you know, I was told Marchant was going to be in Toronto. Besser was going to be in Toronto. You had everybody coming to Toronto and Marner going. So I was counting on you you and obviously you were wrong. Besides Nick Watt and Trigger the horse. And Panzetta. Yeah and him too. Panzetta and Trigger. I used to run into him in the press box almost every game in Montreal. Where do you think Brad Tree Living is right now with the Leafs and I actually think that
Starting point is 00:25:31 He's he's one of those guys that could have easily had a knee-jerk reaction and Sunk some money in places where he probably didn't think it was best maybe to alleviate some pressure He chose not to fights another day. I Think it's pretty smart move By not signing anybody just by just Waiting it out. Don't don't sign somebody just for the sake of signing them Obviously they went after Brock Besser at least you would have known that that's a legit 30 guy 30 goal guy Yeah, but outside of that
Starting point is 00:26:04 It it got really thin fast. I know, and I agree with you. But that said, they're missing 120 points right now. And it's thin out there right now. We saw it, and you said it. It went thin real fast because everybody kept their own players essentially. You know, the top guys were retained in a lot of teams except, I mean Mitch Marner had to be without a doubt the number one guy. And I mean, I don't know, I mean,
Starting point is 00:26:40 I think it's devastating losing them. I really do. And I've said that for six months on this show and everybody's mad at him and all he did is go by his rights. And then the tampering BS that came out, I hate when I hear those rumors about the tampering because I could tamper with the best of them and never get caught. But I'm kidding. Gary, I'm kidding. I never did. Bill, David, honest to God. It's okay. They got you out of the league. Don't worry. They can't touch you now.
Starting point is 00:27:11 They must have thought I did. Mac, you need some, you really need a smoking gun now to be caught. Do you not? You got to be, no, let me rephrase that. You got to be a complete moron to be caught. Do you know? You gotta be, no, let me rephrase that. You gotta be a complete moron to get caught. To get caught. 100% you gotta be a complete moron to get caught. And because players said to Mitch, Vegas is a good place to play, it's not tampering.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Now I don't know what Elliott had. Obviously he must've heard something, but I was shocked don't, I was shocked when I started to read that stuff. I, that's, that's one of the few times it doesn't come out very often. It doesn't get reported very often that a team's thinking of doing that. And I, I'm sure George McPhee, I'm sure George McPhee and Kelly had no problems with it at all.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I heard that they wanted to pull the arms off somebody. No, right again. So Mac, what's your summer consist of? You're you're in PEI, you're playing golf, you're consulting for NHL teams. What are you doing? You know what? I just get well, I was in LA for three or four days and then I just got back from Halifax. I was over at the Danny Galvin golf and then I just got back from Halifax.
Starting point is 00:28:25 I was over at the Danny Galvin Golf Classic, which is one of the greatest tournaments you could ever go to. I absolutely love it. I played yesterday or two days ago with John Shannon, Jack Armstrong, and a good friend of ours, Mike Roberts. So we played at Old Ashburn. And then yesterday I played with the Bank of Nova Scotia group, just a fantastic date.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Two of the women in the group had never held a golf club in their hands. I was the best golfer, usually I'm the worst golfer in the group, but I was the best golfer in the group. I got tired of them using my drives. So, you know, it's a relaxing summer. Actually I've got some quite a bit of real estate stuff going here. I've got a couple subdivisions we're selling and we're finishing up an apartment building. You want to plug a link to a website or something?
Starting point is 00:29:14 Sell a couple apartments, Doug? Oh yeah. Check out herbersedgepei.com. Check it out. We've got a good assortment. So we're just actually involved a little bit in an apartment building here So hopefully that will be finished and but it's been I'm busy doing Well, I'm not that busy
Starting point is 00:29:33 This is uh, this is our final show so you know what I just have to tell you honest to God I go to the Danny Galvin classic and there's all kinds of hockey people you wouldn't believe How many people stop me about this show? It's unbelievable and can read can read introduce me to the crowd He's a Doug McLean. He was in the NHL for 24 years and did squat Doing your best work on this show though now. So anyway, it's really, look, I've just really enjoyed it, but lose my number for a few months. This is part of the show where I have to thank Jill.

It's game time for my bet 365.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Visit the app Flutist odds and find out why it's ever ordinary at bet 365. Must be 19 plus, Ontario only. Please play responsibly. Quickly, before we get into the J's, just wanted to do after the free agency period, the Stanley Cup favorites for next year. Florida, number one, six to one. Edmonton, plus 750.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Carolina, plus 750. Colorado, nine to one. Dallas, nine to one. Vegas, nine to one. And then after that, it goes all the way down to the Lightning at 16 to one Dallas nine to one Vegas nine to one and then after that it goes all the way down to to the lightning at 16 to one So bet 365 thinks that it's gonna be one of those one two, three, four five sixteen basically So any big markets the NHLs like can I get a Rangers? Boston
Starting point is 00:32:42 One of the first times where the Leafs have not been. They're low, 18 to one. 18 to one. 18 to one. They usually are in the top 10. They're always top five, six for sure. Always there. Wonder what that is.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Nice position to be in. And tonight, the Toronto Blue Jays host the LA Angels of Anaheim. Not on SportsCent tonight. It's an Apple TV game. You can listen on SportsCent. You can listen on SportsCent, find out who the fan is. And if you're in the city of Toronto, you can go.
Starting point is 00:33:13 So it's a good night to go, beautiful night. Minus 150, the Jays are finally big favorites. Four straight games of being underdogs where they won all four games. Eric Lauer on the bump for the Toronto Blue Jays and let's stay hot with some player props here give me it's the Lauer hour so give me as I quickly try to pull it up here oh my Jesus created like the barger bros yet. Is there like a section of just people who just cheer for barger? Shout out my buddy
Starting point is 00:33:48 Matt Hughes went to the game with him last night He said to me we were sitting in our seats. He said if barger has a home run here I will go buy a bad barger jersey and on the first pitch of the at-bat he hit a home run and he bought a barger jersey and the and the I don't I can't pull it up, but I'll just say this other funny story from the game I say there's this woman in front of me. We're standing and The Jeff Hoffman comes in he gets his like whole little his like it's like day and night like all the lights go down And she turns me she's like
Starting point is 00:34:16 How are they how are they gonna see his pitches in the dark? Oh no! That's like, they bring the lights back on! It's like, it would be a really good advantage if they... She was joking. No, she wasn't. Please. Because, first of all, it's funny, and it's something I would have said. Yeah, we had a laugh, we had a laugh.
Starting point is 00:34:41 And, picture strikeouts, they don't have Eric Lauer posted. So posted so anyways whatever his number is give me the over on Eric Lauer strike Oh, whatever the number is angel stink Jays are good That was game time presented by bet 365 visit the athlete of thoughts and find out why it's ever ordinary bet 365 I'm a 17 plus material only please play responsibly and thank you to bet Keeping us alive. Yeah, give us a show another year. Solid five to six minutes of content we need every single day, and we appreciate you for it. Easy on the keeping us alive. Well, maybe it's a bit much.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Ew! Helping keep us alive. Maybe they are. Maybe they are. Helping keep us alive. Okay, let's take a quick break. When we return, we got still a few more names out there in the UFA. Is there anyone that catches ri moving forward here?
Starting point is 00:35:26 Plus we've got some text 595 90 only on how Sammy and JB can improve the show Those are the keys and and Mac too right and Mac too, and I'm excluded of course That when we return to Real Kipper and Born. The best Blue Jays show out there period. Blair and Barker be sure to subscribe and download the show on Apple, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to the program one last time. We take it into our summer.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Nick Kipraos, Justin Bourne, Sammy McKee. This is how we're real Kipra and Bourne brought to you by Bet365. Little news and notes. We did have a signing, right? Anthony Bavillier. Yeah. 5.5 million on a two-year deal to the Washington Capitals. But there are still some names available.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Sammy, you've got the top names left. Yeah, I gave Bourne my lineup, so I don't know what they are. There are still some names available. Sammy, you've got the top names left. Yeah, I gave Borny my lineups, so I don't know what they are. Jack Roslavik, Victor Olufsen, Mac Rizlik, Ilya Samsonov, Max Patrady, Jeff Skinner, Luke Kuhnen, Joel Uel, Kivi Ranta. Yeah, Leafs are screwed.
Starting point is 00:36:56 None of those are the answer. Although, do you think Patrady's coming back? If he wants, I think there's gonna be a team that can look at him and say the Leafs though I don't know if there's any room take a look at the ads that they've had where are you gonna fit him in I mean how many of these guys from are they gonna move out like a yarn croc camp Domi Robertson well they're gonna have to move probably four million million out if they still think they've
Starting point is 00:37:28 got an $8 million player in mind right now. Yeah, it'd be that sort of value for another guy? Well, if they took a run at Brock Besser, they certainly had a top six Slotted in that eight million dollar range available. All he had to do was say yes Alas, he did not I loved patriding the playoffs. He was extremely good for them clutch. Yeah Played a role Yeah, it's so hard to know if you could count on just getting it again getting him there For a second straight year feels like a tall task. I just think guys like We're the biggest schools of playoffs Easton Cowan now. We'll take a spot well
Starting point is 00:38:14 I I don't know in 10 or 15 20 games later if he's in the mark with the Marlies or not, but He's he's starting I knew the Nick Robertson thing he probably has to get traded because you can't have, you know, Michelli smaller, Robertson smaller, Domi smaller. You just can't have a whole bunch of these guys. So Robertson's probably the odd man out at some point. Anyway, Sammy. Oh, do you even have like a few people came up to me the other day and or yesterday and like the true and false Stuff say oh, yeah, and I just see on our lineup. You've got a few left over. Yeah
Starting point is 00:38:54 Why did you print it then cuz truthfully I forgot my sheet of paper Horrible at this time. I gave Borny my lineup, because he's like, I didn't go to my desk. I was so excited. He's the new Macau, and he gets here at 255 and just walks in here. I read this and I'm like, oh man,
Starting point is 00:39:16 Sammy's on the ball, man. He's like, for him to think that he's left a few on the table here, they must be really good. I got one of them I remember. I got one of them I remember, it't remember it's a lease one true or false Leafs will be in the top three in the Atlantic Division next year true true Yeah, I think so I mean to them for them not to be you have to think Montreal or Ottawa are going to pass them
Starting point is 00:39:44 It's not gonna to be Detroit. No not going to be Buffalo Boston. One of yous made me maybe Buffalo one year. Montreal and Ottawa will push. They'll knock on the door of top three. Ottawa didn't do anything. Did they? But their kids are just getting better as is.
Starting point is 00:40:03 That's the range. Right. Like they're just starting to scratch the surface. Yeah, I'll say yes. They're true, they remain top three. Okay, let's do some text. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:40:17 This one's from Sean in Ottawa. Make the show longer. To heck with baseball. Go Red Wings, go. Trying to get the shut up. Yeah. We went to the last show of the year to get the worst text of the year.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Make the show longer. Listen, we love the show, truly, and love each other. Another hour's not helping anymore. Four years ago, four years ago, I said, there's just no way we're gonna run out of things to talk about in two hours. You wanted one?
Starting point is 00:40:46 I didn't really have too much of a say in it. Yeah, but I Certainly would have had a say in it if they tried three But yeah, it turned out in a really short period of time that Tashawn's, like two hours, like we're barely... It goes fast. It goes fast. Some days.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Well, of course, if there's a slow news day or... You know what it is? It's the calendar. If the Leafs play on like Wednesday only, it's a hard week. You know, there's nothing fresh for days, one game. You get like the Borubé press conference where he says absolutely nothing. Give us a Saturday night into a Tuesday, Thursday. That's the perfect time.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Show's common. Have Nick explain why it's real kipper and how it came about. How it came about? Well, because when I left Hiking in Canada, I did start a podcast with yours truly Moments ago Doug McLean and it was real kipper at noon So I'm not mistaken. It was not related to the start of Twitter and imposters
Starting point is 00:41:56 Well real kipper started because someone stole my identity and my likeness. Okay started putting on Fake news. Okay, that's a better explanation. And it got to the point where I got called up on a trade deadline and said, explain the trade to I think Patcha Ready. It was a Patcha Ready trade. On trade deadline they're like, explain what?
Starting point is 00:42:18 I don't know anything about Patcha Ready trade. So someone had, okay. Someone I'll put on Twitter that I said, Pat already got traded. There was a fake, like a moment on Twitter where a lot of celebrities and more follow people became real. So that's where real kipper came from. And then real kipper, I started the podcast with Doug, and I just figured I transition that to sports net. So I said, can I just keep real Kipper
Starting point is 00:42:47 because it's already started on a podcast. And there it is. Do you want to be real born? I don't think anyone's impersonating me. Where was I here? This Kip, okay, I don't know. You must. Okay, back off the Kip stuff.
Starting point is 00:43:03 You must have told us. Let's go to Sammy. Let's go to a okay, okay? That's fine. I'm okay. Go hit me fine Deborah from Oshawa keep Mac on Fridays He makes my week seeing him every Friday and Sammy get rid of the hats you have a lovely head of hair You do have a lovely head of hair. Oh this old thing We could lead the league in like hair. There's a lot of product on the show. Good lattice. I don't know how many years left. So let's show you what's here. Wait, really? Oh, we're fighting it. We're hanging in. What? I know. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:43:37 it's maybe I'm hanging in. Maybe a little bit. Does Kipper still have his first hockey card that he was on, which he paid 20 bucks to get from a kid who asked for his autograph, Mark B. from Six Nations Reservoir in Ontario? Chicago. Outside the Drake Hotel. We pull in like three o'clock in the morning and there's still like seekers out there. All hours of the night, it doesn't matter. Someone's going to put something in your face to sign it between getting off the bus and in the lobby. And you're real tired and this kid comes up,
Starting point is 00:44:11 he goes, can you sign your hockey card for me? And I'm like, scram, beat it, kid. I don't have a hockey card. And he goes, yes, you do. And he pulls out an Opiechi. And I'm like, I've got a hockey card oh my god yeah so after you know I put the kid down because I was so happy I threw him up in the air a couple times I said kid I'm buying this card off you yeah that's very cool 20 bucks
Starting point is 00:44:39 20 was a lot back then oh American yeah Yeah, wow, that's like 150 here now. But it's not worth the gum it came with. Yeah, you get to depreciating assets at that point. Here we go, we gotta bore anyone. Improve the show, very simple. Justin should lead it. Sammy should leave it. Sorry Sammy, but you gotta find something else to do.
Starting point is 00:45:02 Hey, hey. John from Green's video. Take it next year. just go, just go. When you're not here and I do that part of the role, I think I do take for granted during the season how often during a conversation you kind of have to think ahead to what's next rather than getting to stay in the moment.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And that is a hard thing that you take on as a one C for us. It's not that hard because I'm not thinking ahead I'm just bored with what you're saying. I Don't think I've even got to talk about stats for two years I didn't even set a number. I don't know. I mean sometimes we can all Get that diarrhea mouth going right where you just go on and on and on.
Starting point is 00:45:47 I don't think we do it too bad on this show. Not too bad. No, not too bad. But I do my best to try to avoid it for all of us. I could be as guilty as anybody. No, absolutely not. It's just, turn the page, turn the page. When it's, when we feel like it's been exhausted.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Right? The topics. Yeah. This is perfect way to finish our show. I would like next season no Marner talk Thank God you can't talk about him during the lease that I write the text Who's that from JT born at? Okay
Starting point is 00:46:21 To the Sammy McKee who wrote that okay? When have you known the three of us to stay past? past ten o'clock for West Coast Judge the first period In the East watches games past 10 o'clock p.m. We know that there is some incentive right especially the ones that vote on the awards It's gonna be interesting though next you year like not to get too inside baseball but some of our core best disagreements we've ever had we're about Mitch hmm like are we just gonna buy on next year like what's the thing mentally misses the point is it
Starting point is 00:46:57 good I don't know each other is that good radio for us to disagree a holler and once in a while recall yelling oh we yelled we sternly after he didn't wave his no trade clause that Monday we came in and we we yelled quite vigorously people like it oh they love it we can't do it all the time like then you're steven a smith you're just screaming at all the time so if you gotta gotta mix it in but there you go uh that's it so who okay pick one guy on the least Jordan from Calloway that texted that in by the way okay that's so cool so give me one leaf name that we could possibly be screaming on automatic awesome oh that's long he's
Starting point is 00:47:35 not a good enough leader he can't lead without Marner Michelle Eby and dime store Mara's not gonna help first line winger Michelle hey remember 63 we got a 63 in the least Mattel I be in time for a moment. I'm gonna help First line winger my chalice. Hey remember 63. We got a 63 in the least is that the number of Malden were Maligan I actually think Malgan did wear 63 did he in the swissly or no in Toronto. I think he did All right, what do you do in the summer? working What are you doing? What summer? Working. Cool. What are you doing? What are they putting you on?
Starting point is 00:48:06 Golf? Here and there, no. I'll be doing like, listen, it's a great summer to talk, Chase, so I'll be doing all of this. So there is some talk that we're coming back a little early next year because we really pressed it up almost at a regular season. Three days before the season last.
Starting point is 00:48:20 So we will come back earlier in September. But I think, I mean. This next year. I think this year will be a little more compelling because the training camp and it's different faces No, I got think it's a little horse on the team now Lucky that the shows any now or there'd be horse jokes Oh, we let amulet go with a horse not going anywhere just like that boys four years wrapped up horses
Starting point is 00:48:54 Four years so unbelievable a big bring this back for five a big. Thank you to all Watchers and listeners over those four years you have helped make us one of the top podcasts, hockey podcasts in the world, in the world. All right. This year really connected with people. We do have opinions. We don't always agree with them. But one thing that we can agree on is that we love the game of hockey. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:49:20 Let's go to the two of you. I only have one thing to say. I love your DNA. Oh, Mr. Molecule, don't ever change. Do either pal. One more thing. Or oh, love you boys. Have a great safe summer. And we'll see you in the fall, everybody. everybody
