Does this sound like the most corporate chill thing ever?
But I was just on SportsNet Plus app the other day?
Like, I have it on the TV now.
I've got the fire stick.
We talked about doing that.
And you just, like, go watch our show.
It's just, you know, there, full, skip around.
I wouldn't watch the Sutter interview.
It's kind of cool.
Yeah.
You know, anytime you want on demand, video podcast.
I struggle.
Anytime there's a clip or I really have a tough time.
Watching yourself.
Oh, yeah.
Totally.
I have a really hard time.
It's not great.
Like, I just blind retreat.
Then I'm like, yeah, that's gone.
NHL.
You go to the NHL.
Yeah.
Okay.
And then if you want to see a quick goal
Yeah
But like four ads
Okay
Here we go
Careful boys

Let's keep her
Do we love that
Truthful though
We love that
We're not slamming anybody
Big ads guys
Here Sammy
We're not slamming
But if I go to that app
And I see a goal
It's like
It shows just like
Three seconds
It prior
And then
It's like
As soon as the puck's in the net
It goes off
It's like
Can you show me a replay
Why so fast?
Buddy, this has been a lifelong complaint.
It's any highlight show you watch.
They're like, and here's the two seconds
before the shoot at the net,
followed by 15 seconds of celebration.
Can we see how the play developed?
Please.
Good Lord.
Just to stretch it out.
Stretch it out a little bit, Sammy.
Also, hold on.
You're a producer.
Call them, Sammy.
Call who?
The NHL.
The people.
The people.
Call.
Have your people call their people.
We just interviewed Rob Ray, if you missed it.
And Derek, drop the audio.
clip. Kipper.
Oh.
Kiprios, having a looksy with
Rob Ray.
Having a looksy.
Anytime we have on, we got to lead it.
A looksy.
Thanks, Derek.
I'm sure that was a pretty scary looksie.
Yeah.
This hour, Real Kippermborn,
brought to by Bet 365.
In a few minutes, Renault LaBois,
who's been on the show before, does a great
job not only with the Montreal Canadiens,
but covering the National
Hockey League. We'll get his thoughts on a ton of
stuff, including a slight
luggish start by the Montreal Canadians.
Is that fair?
Trouble in paradise?
Trouble in paradise.
You excited, Sammy, as a Leaf fan?
The exact same record as the Leafs right now.
Wow, they're expecting to be the best team of all time.
Well, it hasn't been perfect.
But they win their last game.
Are they without some people?
They got a bunch of injuries per chance?
I don't even know.
Maybe you should ask him.
Yes.
All right.
Mike Matheson, I think they're missing.
And he's important.
And he's important.
Trude, yeah.
But yeah, you know, not.
a perfect start, but the division is weird right now.
Boston, 5 and 2,
Ottawa 5 and 2, you know,
teams are...
Yeah.
Can the Bruin suck?
No.
Is that allowed?
No.
Can they just suck when you're like,
can they just be flat open?
Don't talk about mint.
Okay?
Don't talk about him.
Buddy.
He's so good.
Guess what?
If the Leaf still had Minton,
they wouldn't have got the first overall draft pack,
they wouldn't have got McKenna.
Yeah.
Would you trade McKenna for Minton?
Would you trade...
Would you trade a chance to win the Stanley Cup now
for, you know, two or three years for now?
You think the Boston Bruins are going to win the Stanley Cup?
Give me a break.
Not them.
The Leafs.
Could the Leafs have won the Stanley Cup with Minton?
When?
Last year?
They were 28th in the league.
This year.
No, this year.
He'd look pretty good at the second hole right now.
For sure.
And listen, that's a fun thing to dunk on for Leaf fans.
And I, they're missing them.
Seven points, seven games.
Enough.
Enough of your leaf.
You had the whole hour.
Okay.
Okay. Let's talk Montreal Canadians with our next guest.
Does a great job, as I said.
TVA's very own, Renault.
How are you, my friend?
I'm good.
And that white jersey in the back, white Montreal canine jersey,
it's so beautiful.
It reminds me my youth when I was watching the Cairns on French CBC
and the Maple Leafs and the Chuck Norris Division on CBC.
And what number did you have on your Montreal Canadian?
in Jersey. Number 10, you had to have Gila Fleur number, that's for sure. But there was so many
great players, obviously, wearing that jersey over the years. You know, it's amazing. And I know
everyone loves the red jersey. I understand it. But growing up, watching the Canaanians playing
at home at the Montreal Forum with that white jersey, wow, man, that was just spectacular.
It was perfect.
Nine after night was just unbelievable.
No, we've seen a major buildup to get to Montreal to the point where we're talking about deep playoff runs,
maybe contending for a Stanley Cup, winning a division.
This is the first year, high expectations.
Managing those expectations, a little tricky to start the season?
Yeah.
But you know what?
You look at the big picture.
It's more about the way the team is playing five on five, right?
When you're playing really well, five on five,
chances are really high that you're going to win games.
It didn't happen last night, right?
But if you look at that game last night, five on five,
high danger scoring chances for Montreal.
Well, I danger scoring chances for the capitals,
at home, too.
I mean, normally,
technically, you're supposed
to win that game. Okay, it's going to happen
in a long season.
You're not
going to deserve to win a game
and you're going to finish with two points.
Sometimes you're going to
deserve a little better, like
last night, and you're not
going to even get one point.
But at the end of the day,
you know, it's not the end of the world.
It's season to season.
We all understand what's going on right now.
There's a big competition if you look at goal tending with the team right now.
So you have to understand that for Jacob Dolbash, it's a little tricky to start the season as the number one goalie.
And suddenly Jacob Fowler is coming because Samuel Montambo is injured.
And you see obviously how Fowler is playing right now.
And you have to say, well, you know what?
That kid right now is the number one goalie for the Montreal Canadiens, and he started
this season in Laval.
So it's an amazing story, but that's what I like to repeat since the start of this season.
The Montreal Canaanians are not a country club, okay?
You're a player.
You need to play at a really high level to keep your spot, and because there are so many
good players in the system in Montreal right now. And they don't really care what's your last name.
Obviously, there are some players that deserve to play night after night. But if you're not playing
at the standards that you put for yourself, there's a good chance that you'll be in the stance.
And it's a sad situation for some and a really good one for the others.
So, Ren, you know, the goaltending from the outside where we sit,
goaltending feels like the number one story so far for the Canadians.
What would you say are the other talking points in Montreal?
What are people saying about this iteration of the Montreal Canadians?
Well, the big surprise is really the way the French connection is playing right now.
With Philip Dino, Alex Texier, remember, Alex Taxier was put on waivers last year
And look at the way he's playing right now.
And Zach Boldooke, who was just playing some great hockey.
And that line is really now the second line for this team because of the end of injury.
And the way Marty St. Louis is using them, like he's exploiting their success right now.
And it's fun to watch.
At the same time, you have Chris Pryder who is playing right now on the second line with Josh Anderson and Alex Newell.
And my God, this line is clicking because for Alex Newark, it's a luxury to play with two veterans that knows the game and know how to play the game.
And you don't have to teach.
You don't have to talk much.
You don't have to say much because these guys, you know their style of play.
It's north-south.
They're not going to surprise you.
And it's easy for a sentiment to play with players like that.
So it's kind of interesting right now because.
Okay, you can talk about the fourth line.
There's some injuries, whatever.
But when Demidov is going to be ready to come back,
and if Anderson is playing the way that he's playing right now,
what do you do?
You're telling Josh Anderson, hey, sorry, buddy,
you're going to play on the fourth line.
We don't care about the three grade A scoring chances
and the goals that you're getting night after night.
You need to go back on that fourth line.
You know, the compete level right now with this team,
if you look at the standing, it doesn't really show they should have, I guess, better results.
But I'm pretty sure that internally, the coaches are just eye-fiving themselves
because they're probably going like, wow, we're going to have some edicts soon,
but the way we're playing, it's really, really tough to ask for more right now.
When Demadov's ready to come back, will he take an Uber to the game?
That's a great question, huh?
You know, we were talking yesterday about OV, Alexander Oveskin,
the number of times he was arrested last summer for high speeding.
It's crazy.
It's part of the culture, I guess, in a way.
And, you know, I had a sports car when I was 20, 21 years old.
Should have been arrested a few times.
I'll be honest with you.
I'm playing guilty right now.
So they're getting caught.
Need to be a little more cautious.
But I think it's, you know, when you're that young,
it doesn't matter if you're an all-star player,
if you're just a normal dude.
If you have that sports car between your hand,
there's a good chance you're going to be arrested at one point.
Listen, I got speeding tickets.
and my mom's minivan, pal.
See?
People don't know.
Demadov has been pulled over twice
for going like 40 over the speed limit or more.
Yeah.
40.
And you know what?
I know exactly where it got caught
and I got caught
exactly at the same place this summer
with a van.
With a van.
There you go.
I was coming back from Myrtle Beach
with my van, my red van.
And yes, I got cut
exactly at the same place.
That's funny.
So last night,
Gereislovkovsky,
gets kind of hit awkwardly, then
pseudo kind of half-bumped by Wilson
and an awkward exchange there.
How is he? What did you make of the
response from the team, I guess? What did you make of the hit
in general? Well,
I'm hearing
some people saying that
you know, Tom
Wilson didn't stop or could have
you know, take another line.
It's so
quick, right? I remember when
John Tavarez was hit during
the playoffs, guys, remember exactly the
same thing. Corey Perry was passing by and hit, you know, Tavares with his knee on the head.
And I mean, for me, it's an accident. It's a flu. These things happen. It's a contact game.
And it will be. It still will be. So these things happens. I don't think that Tom Wilson
was intentionally trying to hit with his knee, the Royce-Lavkovsky. That being said, the real question,
asking me, how is he feeling today? There was no practices today in Montreal. It was a day off.
But that's an important question because it's not because you finish the game that you're 100% the next morning.
So it'll be interesting to see how is he going to practice tomorrow in Broussard or not?
And if the answer to that question is yes, it's going to be a big relief. But if the answer to that question is no, are we going to really be surprised?
it's still a contact and an important one to the head.
And remember what happened last year in the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It was hit hard too.
I think it was game five, four if I'm not,
four if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter which game it was at the end of the day.
It's been a, you know, your eyes being hit to the head a few times in the last few months.
It's a concern.
Even if he's playing on Saturday against the Sabres, it's still a concern.
You need to be a little bit more careful if I can put it this way.
Bruno, we cannot have you on the show without mentioning the Montreal Canadiens desire for Dylan Larkin.
No.
And whether or not it's Dylan Larkin or not, the Montreal fans like their team.
They love their team, but they believe that they're not good enough.
and they are waiting for something big to happen?
Yes, no doubt.
And the reality is we all know who Dylan Larkin is.
I was hearing some people telling me the other day that Bill Gary mentioned after the Olympics
that his best player was Dylan Larkin, okay, at the Olympics.
That says a lot about Dylan Larkin in his game.
As you know, he's not a flag.
flashy player, but he's efficient.
He can do a lot of good things on the ice and defensively and offensively.
And if you look at the big picture, that's kind of an issue right now with the Montreal
Canadians, that's second line sentiment.
If you can't bring a Dylan Larkin in your system, it's obvious that this team, it's going
to be a huge step for them.
because I feel Kipper
that the pressure on that first line
night after night is so big.
So starting last year
after the trading deadline,
Oliver Kappan just collapsed.
He was exhausted.
So to see that Nick Suzuki
was capable of playing the way
winning a Selky,
I don't remember last time
a Selky winner
didn't really have help
on a second.
line, you know, when you were talking about sentiment. And that's for me a big issue. I think it's a big
issue for management too. It needs to be resolved. And the day will be resolved. I think it's going to
be a big relief for a lot of people. Because if you look at gold tending, we were talking about
gold tending earlier, I don't see any big issues. When I look at the decor, I don't see any big issues
with David Ringbacker coming into, you know,
I think David's going to really, really help the Canadians
in a few years when he's going to have more experience.
If you look at the forwards,
you bring Dylan Larkin right there in the middle of that second line,
and you're like, wow, like if everyone's healthy,
this is going to be a dangerous team.
So, you know, and you saw what happened Saturday night
with the chant, people in the stands saying,
We want Larkin.
It's not like the Montreal games management doesn't want Larkin.
They do.
It's really, you know, a question of what Dylan Larkin really wants.
Does he really want?
I think Dylan doesn't have any issue with playing with Montreal.
In Montreal, it's more, you know, people around him.
But at the end of the day, at the end of the day, and I don't know if that scenario will happen or can happen.
But at the end of the day, you look at the way,
management is speaking about that situation in Detroit right now.
There's a lot of people that seem upset and tired of that situation.
Okay?
Can they go and see him at one point and say,
Dylan, we're sorry, but you need to approve a trade to Montreal.
This is the best offer that we have.
We're not going to send you to Tampa.
We're not going to send you to Dallas or Minnesota.
The best offer that we have on the table,
and we need to think about ourselves is from Montreal,
you need to make a move or we're not going to play you
or we're not going to give you power plays
or we're going to make your life a little harder here.
So I don't know if that scenario can happen or will happen,
but it's kind of interesting to hear, you know,
the coach after game saying that he's tired about talking about this situation,
the fact that Dylan Larkin is not in you know is not involved anymore with the leadership group
you're like okay but we're still talking about a player I believe who's really really acting
as a real pro a real pro a real throw right now with the Detroit Red Wings so I guess you know
looking at their situation does the success that the Canadians have or not have dictate how
soon they have to make a move. I know they want to do
something. I know they have assets. Kipper
early in the year and trade boards. Like
if someone came available for Montreal, could it be
Mark Schifley? I know and Jets fans calm
down, but just using as an example, like
a big name guy, if
they struggle in early going with that press
for urgency. And also just
Renaud, what do you think they would trade out to
get one of these big guys? Sorry
for the two-parter. Well,
you know, at the end of the day,
they have really good
young players in the system right now.
Michael Age is a good example.
And probably that's what, you know, the Red Wings are waiting for.
They're looking at him the way he's playing right now in Michigan.
I mean, it's just amazing to see that kid the way he's playing.
So I don't think, to be honest with you, that the gains management is in any rush.
What they don't want to do is trade assets for the wrong.
player or just because they're in a panic mode, okay?
They're not going to panic.
And they want to keep their assets close to the system, close to their chest,
to make sure that the day they pull the trigger on the Dylan Larkin or Sidney Crosby
or whatever the name is, they're going to be ready and they will have the assets to make
that trade happen.
And that's why I think the Montreal games fans understand that there's no reason to rush.
Obviously, that problem, that second-line sentiment problem needs to be taken care of at one point, but it's going to happen.
When we don't know.
And I don't feel like management right now is in a panic mode.
What I feel right now is management is saying we have good assets, great assets.
We have bullets in our gun.
We don't want to shoot for no reasons.
That's the way I see it right now.
Just one more note on Montreal.
Boy, that Josh Anderson's having a really good start to the season.
Where's his contract situation?
Like, I need to ask.
I'm going to tell you one thing.
I think he wants to finish his career with the Montreal Canadiens.
And management wants him in Montreal for the long run too.
The way Josh is playing right now is just amazing.
even if he's getting older
you see that one of his priority
during the summer is his skating
he's really really fast still
he's healthy
and not only that Kippert
what I see is I see a player
and you know when I'm
you've been around the game for a long time
when a player
is mentally free
right
doesn't think about what's
am I going to play my next chef?
Who am I on that team?
He's playing, he's totally free,
he's playing in his strength,
and he's really, really helping that team right now.
And he knows that management really, really, really likes him.
And Martin Sain, really, really likes him.
So at the end of the day, there'll be an extension at one point,
when, I don't know.
but you've heard that before players saying
I want to stay and you know it's genuine
and management is saying we want him to stay
and you know it's genuine at the end of the day
99.9% of the time there's an extension coming in
should get a healthy bump up too
because they don't make them like that
and they're so valuable in the playoffs as he's proven over the years
yeah all totally totally proven
but it's really a question of staying healthy
but what I really like about Josh right now
this season and last season
he's smiling
you see that he's happy
in a happy place
is it because he you know
he's now have kids
but he's in a really really good spot
mentally and physically
and that's helping obviously
the Montreal Caneans right now
last one for me Rand
I'll just you know
poke fun
and my co-host here, San McKee, and asked the Toronto Maple Leafs.
You saw them in the first game of the year.
Are they back?
Do you believe like there's belief in this room?
Yeah.
I do believe in the, you know, I really like the way the Maple Leafs are playing right now.
Honestly, I really like the Ottawa Center is the way they're playing right now.
But I believe the biggest surprise in the division is the way the Leafs are playing.
You know, their night after night, they had a long trip.
I think they did really, really well.
like goaltending, the decor.
So and the youth.
There's more youth right now when you look at the forwards.
They're bringing a lot to the table, I believe.
And I'll say the future is bright.
And you never know.
You can start a season saying they have just no chance this year.
But after that, when a dressing room really believes in himself,
you can, they can go really far and do a lot of damages
because honestly, do anyone prepare themselves
like, oh, we're playing the Tampa Bay Lightning
or the Florida Panthers when they're facing the Toronto Maple Leafs?
I don't think so.
But I think the Maple Leafs, every night they're bringing their A game.
And if the other team is not bringing is A game,
you'll be in trouble.
As long as McKenna doesn't shop for a sports car, I think.
He should be fine.
He'll be all right.
Or a red van.
Driving the Tavares' family van, I think.
Renaud, great stuff, buddy.
Great stuff, as always.
Thank you.
Thanks for having me. Great pleasure to be with you guys.
TVAs, very best.
Brnoe-Lavois.
Nice.
Saying that.
He's Montreal's James Bond.
He knows everything.
I wonder, like, I'm not factoring this
into anything on Montreal start.
But, God, I would imagine there's a few of them
that are just watching where the salaries are.
And I'm not saying it bothers them to the point where, like,
it's affecting them.
But man, would it grind my gears if I'm Cole Caulfield
and Alex DeBringkitts now just jumped up five and a half million bucks on me?
Yeah, DeBringen's a good one for Caulfield.
We're like, that's me, but also.
older.
Yeah.
And I'm that guy now.
Yeah.
I'm that guy.
I'm a 50 goal score.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Didn't you see the parade last year?
Oh, God.
And I'm making five and a half sheets less than that guy.
Yeah.
I would grind my gears.
I got to tell you, though, if you're everyone who's not those people, you're the Canadians,
you're their fans, that cap sheet is pristine.
It's shockingly amazing.
Yeah.
Suzuki is their highest paid forward.
at 7.8 until 2030.
Highest paid D is Noah Dobson
who makes 700 grand more than Lane Hudson,
which in itself is crazy to use those words.
Every time he comes on our show brings up Sid
to the haves.
It's clockwork. He does it every single time.
Is that right?
Yep. He did it again today. He always does it.
And I've always said that's the only other team I could picture him
playing for.
He's got to pick a lane.
You know, he can be available.
I think Pitts stinks.
I've watched them play.
Sid to the Habs.
You heard it here first or.
I mean, it would be my literal nightmare.
My favorite athlete probably ever.
Ending up on the Habs would be my...
Watching Tiger playing the leg tour.
Listen, my beloved Nick Suzuki, who is a great
own sound attack.
Now the captain of the Hats.
It all hurt.
It's got to be...
It's got to get really ugly in Pitt for
for Sid to.
lift for me.
Yeah, I agree.
He's a life. Everything's great.
I think he's a lifer there. I agree. He's delivering season tickets to doors.
Oh, you hate that? No, no, I don't hate anything Sid does. I don't. If you
it's a community. It's a community. You do what you have to do with your fans. That's your fans.
They're your people, Sid. You want to knock on the door. I tip my hat.
Yeah, 22 years in the league, free to do what you like.
So on the Larkin thing, is there a world where he just plays for the Red Wings and just stays in the Red Wings?
And like, he's playing for the Red Wings now.
I cannot see him.
I cannot see that long term.
There's too much damage done.
He's poisoning the well right now, right?
Like, I'm sure those guys in the team are like, just get it over.
Get him out of here.
Can't go back.
Doesn't want to be here.
We know it.
Don't like...
Now my heart's changed.
I love you.
You love me.
Let's just forget about the whole thing.
Yeah.
You can't do that?
No.
Have you been a lot of those relationships before?
No.
Break up.
Back together.
Break up?
No.
No.
No.
I have.
No.
No.
I seem like a great thing.
I've been with my...
Since I was 19 years old out and I've been together.
So I haven't really been through a lot of those.
But like, I just...
It's just, it leaves too many questions open.
if he has a bad year or, you know,
and I'm sorry, but as a teammate,
I respect that you can call this shot
because it's your life, it's your family, it's whatever,
but you're dead to me.
Really?
As a teammate, you're dead to me.
Okay.
I mean, they're in the basement of the Atlantic,
which we've said is very good.
It's probably going to be a frustrating long year.
Yeah.
I mean, could be wrong, right?
Last year they were much better.
But it doesn't want to be there.
And that's fine.
Just go away.
But it's not an easy go.
But it's not an easy go away.
Yeah.
Because they need return.
He's really good.
He's really good.
And he was talking about Bill Guerin saying that.
It's like, well, yeah, because Bill Garan wants someone on his team.
Yeah.
That's why he's saying that.
But also, if you'll remember in the gold medal game, Tom Wilson eliminated Dylan Larkin from that game.
He hit him so hard behind the net.
And he wasn't really the same after that.
But yeah.
Like, I don't know.
Why not the Leafs?
Game time.
Not allowed to mention him to the Leafs?
Who's that?
Larkin?
No.
Not allowed to mention it?
No.
You didn't go to jail for mentioning it, but no one's humoring you.
Like the captain of Team USA, you know, what's, you know, in need of a second line center,
not allowed to mention it?
You're going to trade?
The captain?
No, no, no.
Get into the...
Anyways, it's game time, presented by Bet365.
Home of the three-goal, early payout, an official partner of the NHL, must be a team plus.
Ontario-only.
please play responsibly.
So the seesaw continues, boys.
A frenzy on Tuesday.
The opposite of a frenzy last night and then 11 games on tap tonight.
We have in Toronto,
least return home to take on the Buffalo Sabres as we've been teeing up.
Big Atlantic Division matchup.
Looking at the line for this game,
as I'm pulling up here.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are
slight favorites in this game,
minus 122 in the money line.
Underdogs are the Buffalo Sabres
plus 102.
I'm going to kind of continue to
hammer away at the Marchenko stuff
because eventually it's got to happen here.
It feels like he's, you know,
when Valley comes on her show and gives a name of a guy
that's like, dude,
so give me a, I'm not going to go
for the three-point night again,
but give me a Marchenko,
go two point night tonight at plus 350.
And if you want to do an anytime goal score.
Give me Cowan anytime goals.
Okay, I will give you that in a second.
I'm just going to quickly go to a...
Oh, I'm lost it here.
Anyways, what did you say you wanted?
Cowan.
Cowan.
Three goals, playing with McKenna tonight.
McKenna tends to find people in some pretty good spots.
Susan should get him in the radio.
Easton is a plus 150.
No, that can't be right.
Can't.
I'm having a tough time here.
Plus 2.15 for a goal tonight.
You're reading like you're a White House press secretary right now.
I have been dubbed by myself as the worst reader at Sportsnet.
They put the worst guy at reading in charge of reading everything.
This is all their fault.
Listen, I'm miscast.
I'm much like Darren Radish.
They put me in the top role.
I can't read.
And the number is plus 375 for an Eastern Count anytime goal.
So there you go.
and Karel Marchenko on any time goal tonight,
give me that at plus 190.
It's got to eventually enter the net for him,
and he's been buzzing around.
So give me that at plus 190.
And yeah, thanks a lot, Kipper,
for making fun of the worst reader at SportsCenter.
Very nice of you.
Anyways, that was GameTime presented by Bet365,
home with the three-goal early payout,
an official partner of the NHLMUS 19 Plus
Ontario and Alberta only.
Please play responsibly.
Okay, we're back after this break.
I don't know if Sammy is,
but J.B. for sure and I.
plenty to go around the national hockey league, including the L.A. Kings.
All of a sudden, are they linked to Halebuck?
They were linked today.
We will get into that and more when we return to Real Kipper and Bourne.
Hey, it's Aylish Forafar.
And I'm Justin Cuthbert.
Join us as we discuss the most important sports stories of the day
and tee up the biggest games of the night.
It's the fan pregame.
6 p.m. weekdays on Sportsnet, Sportsnet 590, the fan,
and wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back in studio.
Nick Caprio's Justin Bourne, Sammy McKee.
A reminder, this hour of Real Kippinburne, brought to by Betts, 365.
That's all I got.
Okay.
I wanted to ask you a question.
The other day, like maybe last week, Gary Bettman weighed in and was just like, yeah, these no trade clauses.
There's been a lot of them handed out 320 players in the NHL have no trade clauses, which is almost half the league.
And then player agents and everyone pushed back, like, hey, they negotiated for those.
legit, you can't, whatever.
Is there anything to be done with this no trade clause?
Yeah, there is.
Four years from now.
When the CBA comes.
Yes.
There is nothing.
I'm kind of surprised that Gary would want to weigh in on it
because four years from now, when it does get opened up,
I don't think he's anywhere to be really seen, right?
I think we know he's going to retire.
We know he's going to move on.
So that's just one of the...
Nothing can be done prior.
Nothing can be done.
Why, like, why would the players go visit that?
And what does the league have to give the players back if they were to adjust it?
The thing where they pretend to care about the Olympics,
and then they go, oh, okay, you can have it.
We'll make a concession.
Yeah, so...
I don't need the Olympics again.
I think...
I'll know what I'm best.
I'm best.
See, that surprises me.
I don't like losing.
Is it the losing?
Yes, I like it when we win, but I don't like losing.
That was too much.
I don't want to do that, I guess.
Oh, gosh.
Well, just leave the record as they are.
You're joking about the living.
Of course, I'm joking.
Duh.
All right.
Hell of a game.
But I think there's going to be so much that you could revisit,
including that when there's an opportunity to negotiate.
And I don't know, like, think about where the cap's going to be
and how many teams will be affected by that.
I think there should be a window of getting rid of guys
that's easier in four years from now, right?
Buyouts.
All of it's going to, I think, look a lot different in four years.
Yeah.
It's just so nice that it's in four years and not anytime soon.
You look at the way baseball is going.
But there's going to be a lot of teams that are going to need help in four years.
And they may look at the CBA as one of the ways to do it.
So I just hate, I hate in the last little while we're watching teams and rosters get locked in.
And then there's like not a darn thing you can do about changing it.
You're just, you're just married to keeping your same team.
But then it rewards people who value flexibility in some way,
which you should.
But meanwhile,
ever for years,
everyone was like,
eight-year contract,
anyone who's decent
that we want to keep.
I don't know if anybody
will ever want to sign
those long-term deals
with the cap rate,
raising it.
You're just,
it's like buying a new car
and then watching it devalue
when you drive it off the lot.
Yeah.
You look around.
Like,
I can my,
my car is no longer worth
what I just paid for
five minutes ago?
Immediately, yeah.
You want to talk about
Hellebuck briefly?
L.A.
L.A.
Yeah.
I'm just,
one of those teams that to me needs a lot of help right now.
Kenny Hollins there, but you look at this team and they are,
they just need some stars there.
This is L.A., this is Hollywood.
This is a market that's important to every major league out there,
NBA, NFL, NHL, and they're just locked.
They're just in a, there's just in a rut.
I feel like they're the new Minnesota Wild where, you know,
Wild had like 15 years where they weren't bad but weren't good.
Five games into their season, they are 10 points behind first place in the Atlantic,
sorry, in the Pacific Division.
Oh, my God.
Like, just, it's, I'm not even sure what Hellebuck, you know, would do with this roster.
Mm-hmm.
But I think if you are Shevoldeoff and your mandate is to get,
guys who play or like you want to add real players they have guys there that would help the jets right like if you know
byfield or fiela or like byfield's interesting he's had a taken off the first line i think today yeah they have a
first line well paneran's there byfield's supposed to be a first line guy he's not no he'll never be a
they didn't draft him thinking he was i don't think quentin byfield will ever be a
on a contending team, a number one centerman.
I mean, he had, yeah, he played.
He's a good player.
24 goals last year.
Yeah, he's not.
He's not a front line guy.
He's David Legwond.
Remember him?
Yeah.
Did you remember him?
That's right on the left field, brother.
Yeah, I know.
Of course I remember him.
Was he first overall?
No.
What was he?
I don't know.
Oh, I don't know.
He's second overall.
If you could call on me to nail David, David,
David Laguan's draft position, that'd be awesome.
But there's some people at home with him.
He was drafted.
Boy, what a brutal picture on hockey, do you be of Legu?
The lettuce.
What is he?
Sorry.
Second overall.
Second overall.
Excuse me?
Well, I don't know.
I nailed it.
Byfield's second overall, too.
I nailed it.
Yeah.
Yes.
Congratulations.
Not anywhere near a number one.
Carry this team.
So then I think Winnipeg would be happy to do that, right?
They need a second line.
They need a big body, centerman.
Buyfield, buy field for Hellibuck.
Start the room.
Yeah.
Okay.
And then now you got Scotty Lotton at second line center?
2C, baby.
It's Scotty.
Well, as long as Bruey's not coach and he could get a luck.
It's thin.
Let's put it that way for L.A. and Drew Dowdy's getting long on the tooth too.
The Kings also have two guys who make you think they're good players by their name.
They have Andre Lee, who is almost Andresley, and they have Alex Laferrier, who's just not quite Lafriere.
They got some work to do.
Yeah, if I'm, like, that's better than a couple first round pick,
or a first round pick in a prospect if I'm a Jets fan, right?
Like, at least you can point to a human who scored sweet goals.
Yeah.
Who did they take?
Wasn't Stutzler right one pick behind byfield?
Just not the draft guy.
He's so good.
Stutzel?
Oh, my gosh.
Stutzel.
Oh, thanks, Doug.
Crave, I have a tough time with his name.
We'll admit to you.
Yeah, Stutzla went third.
That was Laffer and Nier's draft year.
Then it was Byfield and Stutzla.
Lucas Raymond, that was a big draft for the stands.
They had third and fifth, and they took Jake Sanderson with a fifth pick.
Like, that really set them up.
So.
Doesn't sound like Jake's coming back anytime soon either.
Well, he's on the ice in a normal jersey from what I saw today.
So making some progress.
You know who's not on the ice, Barzell?
with the Islanders.
Do you know anything about that?
Yeah.
It's not good.
Oh.
Like it.
He's not close.
He's kind of had this issue for years where you're just not sure.
They kind of thought to be ready for the start of the season.
I know.
And it's just not progressing.
And they don't have enough talent.
He's like they need every bit of offensive firepower.
So need him.
They need him.
See, there's a guy that they could, like, larkin.
If they think that Barst's,
out, maybe out a while, they should be all over Larkin.
Yeah.
I'm sure that would be a great fit for both sides.
Not sure what would make Detroit happy there, but.
Yeah, knee stuff with him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know when your next trade board is, but, you know, like, Jake DeBrusk be a possibility.
Yes.
Like, is someone that's out there for teams looking for help?
Why are there always forwards available?
No D.
Because they're a dime a dozen forwards.
That's why.
And D isn't
50 goals over the last two years.
It
D's it, man.
Yeah.
Like right-handed D for like how many years now teams have been looking?
We haven't,
I don't think we've really spent more than five minutes
talking about Vancouver all this year,
unfortunately.
But I'm sure there'll be lots of teams.
I have.
Go ahead.
No, you fit it.
Oh, that will be picking at the scab of the Vancouver Canucks.
There's a couple of good players in that team
that could help contenders.
I don't mean to take a cut at anyone here.
But like when,
no,
just watching the Canucks to start the year,
they got out to a two and two start.
And there was an interview with Paul Cotter,
who was off to a red hot start.
Oh,
he was like,
he was like,
you know,
people thought we were going to be so bad
that I like took pitcher.
You know,
I saved.
I've got receipts and like,
you know,
they were two and two and two.
And I did this interview.
Well,
yeah.
He was talking like they were,
prove the haters wrong.
Like,
take a breath here, man.
It's a long run.
It is a long, long season.
Like, I'm telling you,
contenders would want Jake DeBrusk at some point of the season.
He doesn't make anything now.
All these contracts look great.
Pedersen?
At the right price?
Bessertzer?
100% Pedersen.
You just,
you don't want to do what Calgary's done,
where you just don't have anyone to play with your young guys
and they can't develop.
You're too bad.
This, like, Booium, they're talking about already.
Yeah, I saw our boys help.
And Brough talking about if he might get, he might get scratched on the road trip.
It's like, what?
Didn't they give him $9 million?
You know, he's like the best guy we got, lock up the core.
Struggle with his name.
Not all of those deals are going to look at.
I call him boom.
Booyum.
Yeah, that's a really difficult one to put yourself in that moment to somewhat embarrass yourself or the player
that a $9.5 million player can get scratched.
But he's struggling.
Yeah, he's struggling.
He's young.
He is a mill for this year, by the way.
It's not necessarily a reflection on him or the decision to help scratch him.
It's the stupid system.
It's the stupid CBA.
I'm betting on them.
It's what it's forced now teams to do.
They're forced to make these hedges.
Well, how is it stupid, though?
I mean, like, you don't, you're not forced.
Well, you run the risk of losing them.
That's why, at a really young age.
When Darrell Sutter was on yesterday,
talking about teams had your age for 10 years or until you were 30.
We don't want that either.
I'm just saying that, like, that's where,
okay, the Montreal Canadians, once upon a time,
we're looking at Lane Hudson going,
are they nuts giving them that much money
at that particular moment?
And in a very short period,
were like, that was the greatest move ever.
This is why.
And that's what teams are banking on.
They're banking on that they're going to look good in a few years.
That to me is the difference between genuinely smart management and management.
And I'm not saying this about the Kodok's management.
It's a bad system.
It's a bad CBA.
What's going to be different, Kip?
Like you want them more tied to a team?
Yeah.
Yeah, longer.
You're just forced.
Isn't it until they're 26 their UFAs right now?
Yeah, 26.
That's too
Too young?
It's too young to let them go.
You're Kippy League office now.
Yeah, he's, uh...
Yeah, I'm starting to change a little bit.
Oh, my God.
I'm just, listen, I want,
I want fans to buy someone's jersey
and not worried about changing the nameplate.
That's what I'm...
That's what.
It'd be nice.
It'd be nice for 10 years for a player to stay.
Speaking of that,
I appreciate that.
Gotta give full marks to...
my great friends in Ottawa.
Awesome job with all the different
iterations of the Brady jerseys.
I've seen a lot of those.
I had a lot of Ottawa people in my algorithm
and that for you thing.
You look at one thing and it picks up pace.
It gets ugly early.
I mean, quick on that thing.
But I saw a lot of people doing, you know,
Yakum Chuck, like with like the 27.
And like they're getting creative.
I respect it.
Yeah.
I respect it.
I'm actually really looking forward.
There's a few ones on Larkins jersey.
Oh, yeah.
Detroit.
Yeah, they're less.
But he still plays there.
That's what makes it worse.
I'm looking forward to that Ottawa.
I think that's going to be a real vitrial game.
I think that's in October, isn't it?
Ottawa got any dogs?
Florida in Ottawa.
It's coming up.
It is coming up.
I think it's like late October.
So that'll be great.
And it's been noted by Brady.
Oh, yeah.
It's going to get ugly.
He also said that it's going to go.
Who?
No, no, it's just a fan response.
They'll be all over.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
And, you know.
And then it's even going to go.
Seattle, Canada for him, it'll be tough.
It was a training camp where
Michael Ann Lauer made the comment
about
dealing with
family. Do you remember what I'm
talking about?
No, he had a comment that, you know,
the brother and the dad
are in his kitchen.
It's tough to keep a guy when
you know. No, I do remember that now.
Yes.
Yeah. So you think there's some
resentment in general.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, they can't.
Oh, yeah.
Do you think the league would frown on team-sponsored resentment nights?
Like, if they did some sort of Brady hate shirt handout or?
They should.
Don't give anybody any ideas, please.
But they're going to have to do the stupid Jumbotron.
I don't know if you've noticed, but there's a lot of hate in this world already.
Yeah.
We don't need any more.
Yeah, you're making fun of me for reading during that 365.
Like, you're all over me.
Bill Simmons had some good stuff.
I'm not making you a night of it, though.
Good.
Would the Canucks trade
Philopronic to the Leaves?
Not yet.
Okay.
I don't think.
They need to hang on for a little while yet.
Leaves have no cap room.
Okay, forget about assets to try to get them.
They have a tough time fitting in money now.
You need to move money out.
Tanna arrives at a certain island.
It may be easier.
Well, I like Chronic a lot.
TBD.
This show's, or this headline is perfect.
for our show.
Oilers face new reality as Alberta's time change brings challenges.
You guys want to try to untangle time zones again?
Read it. Read the story. What's it say?
Due to a provincial policy that was announced in late April and likely caught the
NHL schedule maker by surprise, the Oilers have some odd start times this year.
A couple of nine o'clock starts for Saturday night hockey games in Edmonton.
Nine o'clock. And a bunch of Saturday afternoon matinees to come.
The Oilers have two 9 p.m. starts at home, both Saturdays, against
the Canucks and Blackhawks,
but five road games where fans will have to wait
until at least 908 Edmonton time for puck drop.
And they play a bunch of like 8, 8.30, a 2.30 matinee.
So, like, the schedule makers didn't plan on there being
Alberta changed the, they're not doing the clocks anymore or whatever.
Kipper, your thoughts?
Would you rather talk about...
Yesterday's conversation was embarrassing.
Was that yesterday?
I don't think that was yesterday.
It was two days.
Two days ago?
They all blends together.
Yeah, whatever.
I don't know.
But, like, I'm not touching it.
We can talk about ECL.
All I know is I'm going to turn my TV on.
It'll be late in the second period.
I'll know why.
Yeah.
There you go.
We're screwed up.
Conner will probably be scoring.
So, whatever happened.
All right, 11 games on tap tonight.
Find yours.
And then come on back to the real Kipperman Bourne show.
Have a great night, everybody.
