Welcome to an HBO podcast from the HBO late-night series Real Time with Bill Maugh. No, there's so much to talk about I tell you, watching news in the Trump era, it's like picking up rocks after a heavy rain. You know you're going to see something gross under there. So our president outdid himself.

You know what he did this week, right? On Monday, he called the widow of a fallen soldier to console her. And by Tuesday, he was calling her a liar. Who knew it? empathy was so complicated. And then, on top of all that, he turns it

into an insult on Obama. He says, Obama didn't call anybody. You know, Truman had that sign on his desk. The Buck stops here. Trump has a sign, keep going, Buck. So we found out that he is just as good with Gold Star families as he is with hurricanes.

On the bright side, maybe we have hit upon a way to keep Trump from starting a war. Tell him, hey, think of all the calls you're going to have to make. But of course, here in California, we've got our own problems. We have 15 major wildfires that have burned over 200,000 acres. In fact, the smoke got so thick that the executives at Merrimax couldn't see what was going

on right in front of their face. Of course, this is California where political correctness is kind of thick, too. So we couldn't actually start fighting the fires until we had a big debate about the term flame retardant. Now we're good to go. But, hey, Trump says not to worry. He had a nice talk with the president of Sacramento. Yeah. Now, over 40 people have died so far.

But Trump said, hey, this is California. They knew what they signed up for. So far, no offers by Trump to visit the disaster scene. but he said he's going to have Mike Pence look at the fire for a minute and then just walk out. So, all right, thank you very much.
