Starting point is 00:00:00 Uh, where are my gloves? Come on, heat. Any day now? Winter is hard, but your groceries don't have to be. This winter, stay warm. Tap the banner to order your groceries online at voila.ca. Enjoy in-store prices without leaving your home. You'll find the same regular prices online as in-store.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Many promotions are available both in-store and online, though some may vary. Hello, welcome to a regulation draft. Nobody wants to start things off, so I'm starting things off. Jeff is the only person who starts things off. With this action star draft, we're picking our favorite action stars, what we think are the best action stars. There are so many ways you could go about this. I'm excited to see everybody's boards. I came prepared with 25 picks, which apparently was an insane thing to do.
Starting point is 00:00:55 But here we are. You're saying it as if it's not. How many picks does everyone have? Like 10, 20? You have 10 or 20? You have 10 or 20? That is a big either or it's either this amount or twice that amount. I hadn't opened the full note yet.
Starting point is 00:01:11 I was just looking at the top. So truly like Nick should be on your side, Andrew. Oh, Nick is on my side. I'm on my side. No bad ideas. Gavin, how many pages did you have? Oh, like 10. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:24 Gavin has 10. I think you said four. Now, to be clear, this is the action, Star Draft, which is the... Which is the... Oh, I have 10. ...an actress who plays... Okay, wait. Hang on.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Okay, Nick is going back on his number. Character was 20. Did you don't know which draft would have? We've had a whole conversation. Regulatrion.com. How are we alive? Like, I don't understand. But...
Starting point is 00:01:53 Okay, so this is the actor... This is the actor who plays the action character. This is the... Correct. Not the specific character. and then we'll do the specific character draft, I think there will be some interesting people selected in each as far as how they're represented. Because there are certain characters that I think of
Starting point is 00:02:12 as like incredibly important action characters that I do not feel that way at all about the actor. I would not put it in the other way. I think you're spot on that. Okay. Fair point. And how many times would you want to randomize, would you say? Oh, what's a good action number?
Starting point is 00:02:28 Well, I feel like a, a true. Three is when you've hit the, like you know you've made it when you get to make three movies. Also, uh, three. Action is the third word in lights camera action. Oh, wow. That's something I can get behind. Let's do three. Okay, well, remember we are in Anne A Gorder to start Andrew, Nick, Eric, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Man, I hope I go first. Holy shit. I'm going to randomize three times. Here's one. Nick. Two is Jeff, Eric, Nick, Andrew, Gavin. And finally, horrific. The third time.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Gavin. Eric. Jeff, Nick, Andrew. Andrew, how are you feeling about your placement here? You got a snake draft, though. I mean, I have 25 picks, so I don't feel the worst about it. But I think that there's a pretty clear, like, first name. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Well, let's see if Gavin gets it, because Gavin has the first pick on the action stars draft, Gavin. Let's see if I correctly guess the name that Andrew thinks should be the first pick in the pool of all action stars. Well, that's Jackie Chan, isn't it? Jackie Chan. That's a good one. Solid. Solid pick.
Starting point is 00:03:36 How you feel about that? It's a great pick. Oh, it wasn't your first pick there. I think as far as, if you're going for most popular, I wouldn't say it's Jackie Chan, but that's a great pick. Where was he on your list, Andrew? Technically, he's first, but I would put him second. What's that mean?
Starting point is 00:04:00 Okay, so I want, I want to like, we're going to keep recording, but I want to like pause the whole draft for a second. Because before we started, Andrew assured me that the number that he had everyone in was the draft order that he would go with because he did them in a ranked way. And I said analysis paralysis would set in. And he said no. Now he's telling me that his number one is what he would put number two. I guess it was the thing I thought of first, but number two is what I would have liked. I was looking at it. You are the single fucking craziest person that I know.
Starting point is 00:04:38 So on your list, is he number two or number one on the list? Jackie Chan is number one because I think that was like, you suck. The first one I thought of, but is not quite known. Don't listen to them, Andrew. I love it. But you told us that you put them in order. order. Yeah, it was just, uh, that was wrong, I guess. That was just that right. Oh, he's not so defeated. Oh, it's just incorrect, I guess. I, Eric has stood up. He is up and about. Well, I got,
Starting point is 00:05:09 wait, did I even do? Yeah. All Eric's doing is stalling so he doesn't have to make his I got 24 other names. So I'm good. I'm set. Right. And they should as you assured me, all be in order. Oh, yeah, that's definitely not the case. I'm looking at it. I'm going to lose it. We're on the first thing. I'm going to lose my mind. I don't know why you're so worried about my picks. My picks are funny.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I got the list in front of me. Well, my pick, because I have the second pick, my pick is going to be maybe a newer action star than I think some other guys are going to go with. I'm going to go with Big John Sina. We're tired now from professional wrestling, a full-time action star. are the peacemaker himself. Wow. John Sina.
Starting point is 00:06:00 12 rounds is the most excited I've been about a premise for a film and then was most disappointed by, maybe of all time. Yeah, tough, tough. Little Finger and John Sina going at it in which he has to complete 12 trials to defeat the bad guy, but then they just end up skipping like five of them. It's too many. They figured out 12 is too many. It is.
Starting point is 00:06:24 What's your favorite John Sina movie? Uh, I think he is the most fun in probably fast nine when he's hanging out with the kid. I could see that. That is fun. Yeah. Yeah. I weirdly go to the Marine, which is definitely not his best movie. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:06:42 His first, but. No. I just think that he's a, he's a good mix of Mark Wahlberg charisma, but with like the rock size. You know what I mean? Absolutely. I think that's a great parable. So Jackie Chan's off the list. So is John Sina.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Let's see if the J.C. train continues because it's Jeff's turn. Too-to. Jesus Christ. I am going to buck the superstar. The J.C. train. Oh, man. Sorry, I had to do it. And as a child of the late 70s and early to mid-80s, there was one person above all else who entertained us consistently through all mediums.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And that was Harrison Ford. Oh, Harris. Oh, my God. He's on my list. I didn't expect that at all. Oh, wow. He was in everything, man. Indiana Jones. He was Han Solo. He was Jack Ryan.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Jack Ryan. It's a great pick. It's a great pick. Yeah. Not on your list, huh, Andrew? No, on my list. Just not what I was thinking. For one, I, Jackie Chan.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Can I ask, it was 16th, but it would have been ninth? Can I ask where he was on your list? Harrison Ford is seventh on my board. But that doesn't represent where he would have been picked, I guess. Because he didn't put him in any kind of order. Yeah, it was just, I guess, who I thought of. and sequence. Do you ever put your draft picks?
Starting point is 00:08:01 Do you ever transfer that to the list of 20,000 things? Oh, no, I probably would be at 40,000 if I did that. But instead, he'll just never do any of them. Yeah, but instead he'll stick to the zero progress. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, great. Well, Harrison Ford is a good, I think a good first round pick right there. Great first round.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Like Andrew said, maybe someone that you don't think of immediately as a like action star, but definitely an action star. But Nick, who do you have for your first round pick? The action movie guy. He's in everything. Mission Impossible. He's live, die, repeat. It's Tom Cruise.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Tom? Now, again... He's going to say Philip Seymour Hoffman, but yeah, no, Tom. However you feel about him outside of movies, whatever. He is the action star guy. Oh, wow. Andrew said that's crazy. I just, I can't believe my number one is going to reach me at five. Very excited about it.
Starting point is 00:08:55 your number one was Jackie Chan I think well yeah my number two but actually number one is going to reach me at number five Tom Cruise is a great pick
Starting point is 00:09:05 Tom Cruise is a phenomenal pick what's your favorite Tom Cruise movie neck am I three the fit three it's a good it's a really good mission impossible it's the best mission impossible
Starting point is 00:09:18 I haven't seen any past the first one with a label other than a number fallout what's the one where he climbs the building that's the last one three. That's four. And he's got a good, like, range of other action movies inside.
Starting point is 00:09:32 He climbs the building and he's like, I'm not going to make the extraction. No, it's the rabbit's foot. Well, I thought Nick was talking about the Burj Khalifa. Yeah, that's four. That's four. That's four. But he also climbs. Buildings in three and four. He does a building thing in three as well. Okay. Yeah. That play. Okay. Well, there go. Tom Cruise on the list. And now we get to figure out Andrew's number one, which is number two at number five. So Andrew, you actually have two picks in a row. I do. You can really mix it up if you want to.
Starting point is 00:09:58 And there's a lot to pick from. A lot of great names. I think this is like the face of action movies. This is crazy. Arnold Schwarzenegger is my pick. Ah. Action films that he's in. He's great in everything.
Starting point is 00:10:15 He's got so much charisma. He is, I think, like, what John Cena would dream to be, what all these guys would dream to be in terms of charisma range of films. John Cena is funny. Yeah, he's funny. He's incredible. So many, like, Schwarzenegger.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Six different franchises, it feels like that he is integral to and brings so much. What do you think? What's your, what's your number one on there? What's the, the Schwarzenegger one that you go to?
Starting point is 00:10:44 A predator, by far. I love, I'm a huge predator. I love predator. I hear that. Incredible. But, I mean, you can't, a running man, it's not a good movie,
Starting point is 00:10:52 but, like, he's great. Jingle all the way, him beating up all the Santas. like you put some action with that man. It's fun. So your one was... Your one was my two and my two was my one was your...
Starting point is 00:11:05 Yeah, exactly, you nail it. I don't need to expand on that at all. Your one was his one and his one was your two. That's what I meant. Yeah, no, I got you. I'm gonna take Gavin, me and you. I'm with you. And I'm going with my swing, I'm taking another fellow Canadian. Keanu Reeves.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Nice. Different options. You got John Wick, you got speed, you got the Matrix, like an incredible action star that doesn't necessarily get his credit in that realm. It's like the, the fandoms of those things feel almost like they're pocketed off in their own fandom, but that man has range as far as action gets. Yeah, I mean, the John Wick stuff alone, I think puts them on here, but when you look at stuff like speed, it can really elevate him. Point break. Yeah, hell yeah. Yeah, like just so many. He's shooting the sky, baby. I think Keanu Reeves a good pick, Andrew
Starting point is 00:11:57 Very fantastic pick. Does he have the record for the most bullets fired directly into the sky? That's interesting. He's trying to bring down God. Nick, you have your second pick here. I feel like this guy's the face of action movies at this point. He's in every action movie. He plays the same character in every action movie.
Starting point is 00:12:21 He is the face and the voice of action movies. he is the face and the voice of action movies it is Jason Statham Ooh, good one And while, you know, I feel like he has a few Fun ones, you know, a transporter Everybody likes crank, right? But then I didn't ever saw beekeeper,
Starting point is 00:12:37 but he always plays the same character. Oh, you're missing out. No, you're missing out. No, you don't. Yeah, he keeps the bees. He's making sure those bees are kept. I think what makes Jason Statham unique on this list, outside of Jackie Chan
Starting point is 00:12:47 is he just plays action guys one time and then does the next action guy? Usually. Like a lot of these people are building franchises. He's just doing one-offs. It's the same character, though, in every one. In all of them. Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:02 If you watch the transporter, you've seen the beekeeper. Yeah. You've seen crank. Yeah. Oh, absolutely. It's the same. It's different in the whole time. Like, it's just him.
Starting point is 00:13:12 You and doing that. Always. You have voices in Call of Duty as well. Is he these guys? Is he really? He was in some of the early ones, I think, before he was super famous. Oh. Wow, I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:13:21 In expendables, he uses knives. That's different. In expendables. Great comedian, too. I will say one of the most boring Instagram accounts I've ever followed. Really? Just constantly on Jets and in, like, Dubai and shit. Oh, he's a big Dubai guy, 100%.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Whenever I see a boxing match that's in Dubai, he is front and center. Wow. Weird. Crazy. Well, Jason Statham is on the list, so he's off the board. We go to Jeff. See what his second pick is. I'm excited about this pick.
Starting point is 00:13:50 I wasn't super afraid somebody would take it yet, but I am worried that it might go eventually. But he's definitely second in my heart, and I appreciate the longevity of a career. Similar to what you said about Statham, it doesn't do a lot of repeats, although when he does, when he knocks out a trilogy, even at an older age, it's maybe the best thing he's ever done. I'm talking about Dinsale, Washington. Ooh. I have to assume Andrew's upset about that. I think so. No, not at all.
Starting point is 00:14:18 I don't know if I had. Denzel on my board for this. Did you not watch all of his movies? I don't know. I have. He's great. He, to me, falls under the category of he is so good, like, viewing him as an action star. I don't know. He's, like, too good of an actor for me to put him in just that bucket.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Oh, like, he's got some amazing acting movies. You're being derogatory to Denzel Washington. It's a couple range. Action star, Denzel Washington. I didn't mean to denigrate Denzel Washington by Selecting. It's just not, what I think of action star, I don't think of him, but there's nothing wrong with that. He's an amazing actor. He's amazing action movies.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Yeah, that's why I pick them. I think, what's the one that you go to, Jeff? I like Man on Fire a lot. Oh, good movie. Great movie, but obviously, my dick is so hard for the equalizer these days. That's a recent thing for you, too. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Pumping the blood. Okay. Well, well, back to me for my second pick before we get a good. before we go to Gavin and someone who I think kind of carved the path for John Sina, someone who I thought was actually going to be off the board sooner. It's going to be Dwayne. Damn you. It's a good pick.
Starting point is 00:15:32 The Rock. Johnson. Good one. Dwayne Johnson is the guy who, again, he's playing himself and every, he's the good guy, perpetually the good guy, just action star. Everyone's tired of it at this point. That's fine. He's still making a ton of money at the box office every time.
Starting point is 00:15:50 He is in a role. So Dwayne the Rock Johnson is going to be my action guy, a lot of bad action movies. Oh, yeah. Some good ones, but mostly bad movies. But that's, hey, that's what he does. Remember, I think he only has one leg in that one where it's like, where he like has like climb a building or something. But in the mummy, he has like six. That's true.
Starting point is 00:16:11 He made some for it. Yeah, yeah. So he actually is coming out. If you look at his leg numbers sort of on a whole, he's actually coming out ahead. Yeah. A lot of like these other action guys. So some scorpion has he been a villain and anything outside of doom? I haven't thought about that.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I don't know that he was like a villain villain, but he's, we can say like antagonistic at times with like Fast and Furious. That's true. I mean, isn't the Scorpion King a villain? Yeah. Yeah, I guess Scorpion King, he is a villain. But then isn't he a good guy in the Scorpion King movie by itself?
Starting point is 00:16:43 I didn't see that. I believe so. Just classic Hobbs and Shob's style too, where he's the good guy in that. It sounds like he said Hobbs and Shops and Fries. is funny because he's a cop. Yes. Like he is a villain because of his position
Starting point is 00:16:54 against the criminals of the film. Yeah. Yeah, he's a bad guy. It would be interesting to take actors and see how they ratio over their full catalog
Starting point is 00:17:04 of movies when it comes to legs. Like, are they under the normal amount of legs? Like if someone's in five movies, 10 legs is what you would assume would be the baseline, right? You would assume that, yeah. But if you've done MPT work
Starting point is 00:17:18 or if you've had six, like a scorpion. like. No. Oh yeah, Nick wants to see if we can count toes. I hate. Like Daniel Day Lewis would be in the odds probably. You know what's crazy is that I don't even have the rock on my list, but he like you have 25 picks and he's not your list? He's not on my list. I think I just have such rock fatigue, but he's undeniable. Isn't he top of the box office fact? Absolutely. Absolutely. 100%. Like he is this generation's Schwarzenegger. I just, I'm kind of sick of them. So I didn't I didn't put him on.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Oof. Wow. Well, he's on my list. He's my second pick, but we have to go to Gavin for his second and his third picks in the action star draft.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Gavin. What do you got? One of my favorite action stars. Blown away by the performance in every film. They're in. Kicking Krav, kicking people's assholes
Starting point is 00:18:08 and heads and stuff. It's Michelle Yo. Oh, hell yeah. Great link. Nice. Very, very cool. What's the Michelle Yo movie that you go to?
Starting point is 00:18:18 Hold on. He's looking. I was looking at how you spell it. No, I did the same thing, and it's like that. What's a good go-to? Yeah. Oh, that police story movie she was in was good. I think that's the third one.
Starting point is 00:18:32 The Mummy 3, the Dragon Emperor. Didn't see that? I don't know if she's in. She's fast as shit. That's a cool movie. You seen Yes, Madam? I haven't. Oh, we should watch that.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Okay. Very good. Her and Cynthia Rothrock. Yeah, you've shown us clips of it. It looks. awesome. Yeah, because it's so cool. It's good a shit. And bingo in the doubleheader. Yeah, that fights against rules. Uh, show you know, is on the list in Gavin.
Starting point is 00:18:57 You also have the third pick. I'm going to pick someone now who I would have thought would have been picked already. He's a bit, uh, he's a bit soggy looking these days, but back of the day, smashing people through walls and that, Sylvester Stallone. Oh, yeah. Number three on my list. Nice. Yeah. Ooh. Now, is that because you thought of him third? Yeah, when you say number three on my list, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:19:24 I guess I mean technically he could go anywhere from three to like nine. But he's the third written name. You're a psychopath. Sylvester Stallone, a great pick though. When he's Cobra in Cobra and he eats pizza with scissors, that's pretty cool. Dude, that's like Cobra in the theater. I was way too young to see that movie. Yeah, dude, no kid.
Starting point is 00:19:51 That's awesome. Did you see Tango and Cash in the theater? Oh, I love. Yeah. Are you big Tango and Cash guy, Eric? I think Tango and Cash is a lot of fun where it's just like, these are action stars. What if they played against Type?
Starting point is 00:20:04 And you're like, oh, really? And then you watch it, you go, they're not really playing against that. I haven't seen it in a long time. He's just wearing glasses. It's fun. There are a whole sequence of the villain putting a mouse in a mouse maze.
Starting point is 00:20:17 Yeah. And it's supposed to be representative of them. Like, it's a mouse. Maze. That movie's ridiculous. You got it. You should watch it again. It's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:20:26 What's the game that you can play in arcades where you sit in the car and you shoot the gun? It's like lucky. Lucky in something and it's just a rip off of Tango and Cash. Oh, that's awesome arcade game from it. Yeah, yeah, that's really neat.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Is that the movie where one of the bad guys just decided to do a ridiculous cockney accent the whole movie? Does he? I don't remember. Maybe? It's possible. I don't remember that.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Yeah, I don't remember the accent of the bad guy. I really like that. Fly Stallone has been pushed out of the Rocky franchise via Creed that he's just not. He wants to be in it. I think they're making a new Rocky that he's not part of in any way. That's insane. Does he not want to be? No, he very much wants to be, but they don't want him to be involved in it.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I think it's two different films by two different groups where it's like Young Rambo. And I don't know if he has involvement in that. And then it's a movie about or a show, I don't remember which. it's about Sly Stallone making Rocky it's like a show about him making Rocky and he's not involved and he very much wants I think his turtles from the first movie are still alive
Starting point is 00:21:33 oh they could be they could be I mean also this kid from the first movie is still alive those movies aren't really worth watching but like he brought all the action service together as well for the expendless yeah oh it was fun that first one was like a lot It was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Yeah. I like the second one. A lot. Oh, okay. The second one had a Xbox 360 game that was a lot of fun. But guys, I got to move on. My pick is a guy who maybe has made some waves. He's got some critical acclaim.
Starting point is 00:22:10 A lot of action stuff. But some serious stuff too. But the problem is he's such a giant man that it's hard to take him seriously in those roles. it's my close personal friend and star of Stuber. It's Dave Batista. Not a guy. I'm noticing a theme with Eric's picks. Yeah, everyone's huge.
Starting point is 00:22:31 Jacked guys. Hell yeah, dude. Jacked guys. Yeah. Isn't it, I mean, let's focus on a Batista, I guess, before I say what I'm going to say, but what was the last, like, great Batista action movie? What was the last time you saw? I think it's been a while.
Starting point is 00:22:48 because he started taking more like serious roles or whatever he was in like the uh yeah that emmite shaman movie where people knocked at the door he was one of the knockers he was one of the knockers
Starting point is 00:22:58 he was one of the people who knocked mm-hmm mm-hmm mm-hmm yeah but but he I think the last thing that I saw him in that I really enjoyed him in was naked gun yeah shows up at the end of naked gun
Starting point is 00:23:12 gun as a cameo and it's it took me so out of the movie in a fun way that I loved it I genuinely love that moment. So it's good. He really wanted to be Marcus Phoenix for Gears of War. And it is sad. Oh, yeah, I don't doubt it.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Mm-hmm. He would have been good at that. Probably not big enough anymore. No. No, he'd have to get re-big. Yeah. He's, he's, I bet he could do it. I think he's...
Starting point is 00:23:37 He's naturally a pretty big guy, but he needs to do in big in. But Dave Batiste is my pick, and we go to Jeff for his third pick in the Action Stars draft. I'm excited about this one. This action star, I think, has quietly amassed a catalog that's much larger than you realize until you start to pour through it, and they're still pumping out good stuff. I'm picking for number three, Charlize Theron. Great.
Starting point is 00:24:00 Oh. Interesting. From Mad Max to bombshell, to Atomic Blonde, to the Fast and the Furious movies, to the Old Guards. Like, she has a giant catalog of action films. Also a very serious actor. Mm-hmm. A very serious actor. that felt like, I don't know, like their relationship to the Fast and Furious movies, I feel like it's so weird.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Where everybody else in those things, it seems almost like a band or like a cult where it's like the Vin Diesel crew and they are so not a part of that and been vocally like made fun of Vin Diesel publicly. And it's just like they bring her in and it's supposed to be like, well, this is like a legitimate actor in this bullshit thing and then I feel like she's never her character has never really integrated well into that universe in a way that disappoints me and I don't think it's so far fun
Starting point is 00:24:58 Has she had good action scenes in Fast and Furious? A lot of the time she doesn't do the act She's like a hacker type. Yeah, she's like in a sim simulator at one point But she's so capable of it as Jeff brought up with like atomic atomic blow Oh shit
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yeah Messy fighting She's in one coming up with Taryn Edgerton where like he's hunting her in the woods or something from the clips I've seen like then yeah great action star and also Much like Denzel incredible range can do so much Did she win an Oscar? She must have right? What? Monster monster monster did she win or was she just nominated?
Starting point is 00:25:41 It would be crazy. Has Charlize Theron won an Oscar? Yeah, but my hands are fucking busy doing what? Yeah. Best actress. Thinking about Shirley's Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Give me a second. So did she win or what? Yeah, I think she did yeah. Oh, that's great. Wow. Well, there you go. Oscar winner, Shirley's thrown on the list, and we go to Nick for his third pick.
Starting point is 00:26:11 One plus one equals more of the greatest stories. Hulu on Disney Plus. Stories about survivors. The most dangerous. planet. Starting point is 00:27:47 Oh, do you? Oh, I'm excited to see where this goes. He's fought horrific creature from space. He has escaped from a couple of cities. We're talking about, oh, also he shot people in the Old West a few times in a few different movies. It's Kurt Russell! It's Kelly.
Starting point is 00:28:00 I love Kurt Russell. Great. Great pick. I think one of my favorite actors, just period. He's just fun. And he has fun with everything, too. He's a great time. He brings it every time.
Starting point is 00:28:11 I like it when he kills that chess computer. The chest computer? Chess? In the thing. Oh, I heard chest. That's why I was confused. That was like chest computer. That's old computers
Starting point is 00:28:26 I think all computers are chest computers They're in their chests You know what to type in Chess? Type in chests? What sites are you going to? Tits.
Starting point is 00:28:39 He's gonna talk about cake? I love Kurt Russell in so many things I think my favorite Dufus action character His by far is big trouble And little China Oh it's the best
Starting point is 00:28:52 It's his best I think that's probably his best role because it's him doing a John Wayne impression for the whole time and being, oh, this guy's the hero. He's not. It's so. He stumbles his way through that whole movie confidently and it is so fun and hilarious. And it's the only action movie I can think of where he defeats the main villain because of assumed incompetence by the main villain. Yes. The main villain does a thing and then he counters the thing
Starting point is 00:29:25 and it's the only act of competency displays through the whole film. It's like the one kind of trick he can do. And the villain gets defeated by surprise of like, oh, this guy actually is good at one thing. I think that's one of his hardest to replicate roles for another actor. Oh, yeah. Which is crazy. Because again, his role, when he's acting and having fun,
Starting point is 00:29:50 he's just pretending to be a different actor. That's him pretending to be John Wayne. And then if you watch Escape from New York, that's him pretending to be Clint Eastwood. It's he's just pretending to be a better actor. And that's awesome. That's so cool. What I think is the funny is,
Starting point is 00:30:06 I was like, no, you go ahead, Andrew. I was just going to say thinking about people that could do that role. I could see Wyatt Russell being like my number one pick of, if they're going to remake it. I think he could do a great job of that.
Starting point is 00:30:17 I wish Wyatt Russell would stop doing Marvel. movies and start doing anything else. I want to like him so desperately and he's doing nothing that I can possibly enjoy. Fuck. What do you mean? Kurt Russell, on the list, great pick. Now, we figure out what Andrew's
Starting point is 00:30:34 last two picks are because this is the snake draft. Pixar, did it? And then the fourth pick. Yeah, I'm shocked that this person is still on the board. They're in my top five. Probably would have been in my top three. I mean, they would have to be, right? My pick is
Starting point is 00:30:49 Bruce Willis. Just like, great way. So much presence. Elevates almost every action movie he's in, has such a wide range of them. He's also just good in all of them, which is good an event. Sorry, what? He looks good an event.
Starting point is 00:31:08 He looks great an event. If you're going to do best looking vent actors, I think he's number one. And he plays the harmonica. He plays a harmonica. he was a big part of creating Planet Hollywood He uh several albums Hudson Hawk Dude is that
Starting point is 00:31:27 Now where do you think that's a good movie or a bad movie Jeff Hudson Hawk? Yeah Oh it's a bad movie that's fun to watch Okay all right It's a fun bad movie It's boy I don't know anything about it outside of the box art for it Which looks like he's having a good time Yeah he does have a good he is having a good
Starting point is 00:31:44 Danny Iella has a good time time Yeah they're having they're having fun Oh, he is just a fantastic action star that was apparently very difficult to work with, but pick some great roles and some great things. From Die Hard to... Showed his wiener in the color of night. I'm trying to think, like, what would be my favorite Bruce Willis movie? I don't know. He's sort of in the, I would put him in a Harrison Ford kind of category of action rules, too, where he makes a lot of, like, dumb action movies that are serious facing.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Well, he was a guy who was like, wasn't he like a rom-com actor? He was in Moonlighting was his first big role on television. And he, his first movie based off of Moonlighting was the Blind Date movie, which was an action, which was a comedy. And then he did die hard after that was like his follow up. And then it launched him in an action. Yeah. It was just such a like. He was pure comedy at the beginning.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Again, again, oh wow, this guy can't do this. And then he became the action guy. Yeah. I mean, not for us. He's so far down this list, but he is Andrew's third pick. But I'm excited to find out who Andrew's fourth pick is, who would happen to be number four on his list. Well, he is, Bruce Willis was four.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Tom Cruise was five. Kano, six. So wait, hang on, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Kianu Reeves was picked before Bruce Willis, but Bruce Willis was higher? Keanu Reeves is absolutely number two on this, but he was sixth written in my thing. This one I was going through.
Starting point is 00:33:19 So I'm just sort of evaluating my board. I'm going to go with what I think is an action star that every action star loves, a beloved figure and film. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the full depth of his career. I'm picking none other than Bruce Lee. Double Bruce goes to end my dream.
Starting point is 00:33:45 draft. That wasn't a couple of Bruce picks. A couple of Bruce some reason wasn't on my list. A phenomenal. I mean the iconic Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fight.
Starting point is 00:33:55 So many fun movies so influential. The only person that seems to like vocally hate him is Tarantino, which is a pretty good place to be. I really like Bruce Lee.
Starting point is 00:34:11 One of my favorite things is that he is in every UFC game, essentially, and it is fun to just beat people up as Bruce Lee. It will never get old. Classic UFC guy. It's crazy how he's in so many modern video games. Yes. I mean, would he even have played one?
Starting point is 00:34:31 Oh, that's interesting. No. No, he died before video games, right? He's like in a genre he didn't, he's in a current genre he knows nothing about. He's in media that didn't exist. Yeah. Like, you know, could you explain to Bruce Lee that he's going to be in a hitman game? as an event.
Starting point is 00:34:46 They're going to do what to me? No, no, no, it's not really you. No, you're not getting taken out. You're helping them take out other people. We'll give you the antidote. It's not real. Oh, you didn't see that way. Eric, you would have fucking loved the Bruce Lee event.
Starting point is 00:35:00 It was so cool. It was a, all the targets were in a martial arts tournament against Bruce Lee, and you had to keep Bruce Lee safe so he could kill them via the tunnel. Yeah, and people kept poisoning him. Phenomenal. But Bruce Lee, an icon. absolute icon in the action What legacy
Starting point is 00:35:17 Great pick Yep Great pick And we go to Nick For his fourth and final pick As well Boy, this comes down to two Well, you can only pick one
Starting point is 00:35:27 I know, I know You want the coin You can get you one You got one right there I go All right, I'll tell you what Heads is the first one I have Yep, tails a second
Starting point is 00:35:36 Here we go Up Gerard Butler He's the one Number 19. I did not expect that name to be yelled the loudest in this draft. Gio Storm! I was thinking mostly of the has fallen movies.
Starting point is 00:35:57 He likes to fall around a lot. Yeah, 300 was, I guess, kind of cool. Rain of Fire, Rock and Rolla. What was the one with him and Jamie Fox? That movie's fucking cool. That movie rules except the ending. Yes, the movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that part sucks.
Starting point is 00:36:15 The rest of it? Oh, that movie is so fucking sick. That movie is so cool. I want a T-bone steak. And then he uses it to stab his in the cellmate, dude. So awesome. Oh, my God. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:36:29 hilarious pick off a coin flip. Save who your other pick was for the honorable mentions at the end. But Gerard Butler, interesting. I didn't think he was going to make this list. Was he on your list, Andrew? Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he was 19. Oh, he was on your list, but the Rock wasn't.
Starting point is 00:36:47 No, which is crazy. I acknowledge. That was truly a on me. Fucking psycho. Weave out. It's my own personal. I'm so sick of him currently. All right.
Starting point is 00:36:59 All right. Well, Jeff, he has some very distinguished picks so far that's rounded out with number four. Well, I hope that I continue the trend of distinguished picks with my final pick, who I'm happy hasn't been selected yet. thought that there was a chance he would. So I feel a little lucky. I'm picking Nicholas Cage. It's a good pick. He's on my list.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Wow. Just a tremendous body of work. Yeah. I mean, full commitment to every role he's all the way. Snake eyes? It's a star right there, baby. Still need to watch that movie.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Yeah, me too. I can't believe we haven't done a watch along of that. That just feels like something we've already done. What's my favorite Nick Cage movie? Yeah, yeah. What would you put your pick up there? Oh, geez, God. I really like Deadfield.
Starting point is 00:37:42 fall. He's a fucking absolute lunatic in that. Is that the one where he's wearing sunglasses? He has a big mustache. Yeah. He beats up the guy. I think they're in a strip club. He beats up the guy and he goes, hi fucking ya! Yeah, that one. That rocks. Vampires Kiss is real good. The one where the ball's attitude discipline one, I can't think of the name of it with him and Sam Jackson is really where he's all pumped up and he's like body. He's like bench pressing chicks. Yeah. That one's real good. Gone in 60 seconds. He has to make sure a car is gone in 60 seconds. Yeah, he's out of there.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Yep. And then, you know, the rock. Ghost Rider. Cesar right, Crositer. Ghost Rider. I'm going to jump that ramp. That's fucking awesome. Ghost Rider.
Starting point is 00:38:17 He's so good. Could have been Superman. Ghost Rider too also. Yeah, great. And he was in a Superman movie in the, the,
Starting point is 00:38:24 or no, he was in a Flash movie as Superman. Flash movie as Superman. Oh, yeah. Bummer. It's going to be. The Tim Burton Superman? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:38:31 he would have been. Yeah, yeah, he would have been. It's going to be terrible, but I'm so excited to see him as John Madden. I just can't be.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Oh, I agree. I mean, it's David O. Russell, right? I think it'll be good enough just for David O. Russell and Christian Bale being in that. The problem with David O. Russell is when his movies aren't good, they're boring. Oh, they're so boring when they're not good. You just have to see if he gets into a yelling match behind. If you hear about him getting into a yelling match behind the scenes before this movie comes out, it's going to be a good movie. Nick Cage, the fourth
Starting point is 00:39:04 and final pick for Jeff. And now it's my final pick. Before you make your pick, Eric. Oh, how disappointing is it that Hulk Hogan is a giant piece of shit and is undraftable because... You know? Looking at the themes. Definitely not on my, not on my list. No, I would never put him on my list. Not even someone that I was going to try for.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Absolutely not. But he was not who he was. Uh-huh. But was the same resume as he was, boy. What is his film resume that you would include as a great action film, though, outside of Rocky 3? Thunder in Paradise. I've never seen it.
Starting point is 00:39:37 He was weirdly important. to me as a kid because of his role in three ninjas, high noon. Yep, I believe. Yep. I just feel like when he showed up in film, it was always like him and a tutu playing against type. That's fair.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Yeah. Yeah. Very fair. But I'm going to pick someone who's the opposite of the holkster. Someone who can stand above the rest. Someone who maybe doesn't have the longest resume of action movies, but his action movies were awesome. Ronda Rousin.
Starting point is 00:40:15 And a guy that, oh, almost on the list. Also, a guy that was in Predator, a former U.S. Navy SEAL. Oh. It's Jesse to the Bobby Ventura. He knows the Navy Shield. Governor of Minnesota. Jeff, I have to go to Mexico.
Starting point is 00:40:32 That's what Jesse the Bodhi Ventura is trying to unionize professional wrestling in the 80s. Hulk Hogan finds out about it. puts a stop to it. You get rid of Jesse the Body Ventura, he leaves the WWF. He becomes a huge action star.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Predator running man. He is a huge action star, and then he just goes to Baja. And then he stops doing everything that he does. Yeah. Jesse the Body Ventura is my fourth and final pick on this action stars draft. Love him.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Love them in Predator. This must be one of the straight-upest drafts we've done. I think so. No one's done a bit. We're just trying to actually get our teams in. Yeah. Incredible. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Yeah, yeah. That's my team. But Gavin, who's your fourth expendable here? Nick, can I borrow the coin? Oh, of course. I'm flipping a coin, and I can say who they are. Okay. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:41:29 They both played Bond. Oh. One side of the coin is Daniel Craig. The other side is Timothy Dalton. Oh, good picks. Timothy Dalton would be the other one? Yeah. He's solid.
Starting point is 00:41:40 He's got some good action flicks. Yay. Oh, it's Dolan! Yay! It is? An incredible bond, didn't get enough tries to do it, constantly doing his own stunts.
Starting point is 00:41:51 It's always him on camera. None of that greed screen. Shite! How many movies was he in? Two. But he had a pretty good scrap in the Model Village in Hot Fuzz. He did, he did.
Starting point is 00:42:02 That's very true. Why was it only in two? Uh, just... You know, studio troubles. They wanted Pierce Broson for a long time anyway. Yeah. Oh, they were like pushed him out type thing? They were waiting for him to finish up on Remington Steel.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Yeah, Remington Steel, yeah. And now it's going to be Calum. Good pick. I think Daniel Craig also a tremendous action physical bond. I think Daniel Craig would have been my pick of those too. Yeah, but I feel like he hasn't been in a ton of action outside of those. Most of his other stuff is not. Layer cake?
Starting point is 00:42:35 Player cake. Yeah, I'm trying to think of other. Craig action movies. He was, you know, he's like, he's like running around and knives out. You know, he's like, what's over here? Hey, what's over here? Good pick, Gavin. Very good.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Timothy Dalton. Less bonds than I thought you were going to go with. Yeah. And boys, that rounds out. The action stars draft. We can talk about honorable mentions in a second. But Gavin drafted Jackie Chan, Michelle Yao, Slice Stallone, Timothy Dalton.
Starting point is 00:43:10 I drafted John Sina, Dwayne the Rock Johnson, Dave Battista, and Jesse DeBotti Ventura. Jeff drafted Harrison Ford, Denzel, Washington, Charlese Throne. Nick Cage. Nick drafted Tom Cruise, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, and Gerard Butler. Finally, Andrew has Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Bruce Willis, and Bruce Lee. Boys, those are our expendables picks. I like it.
Starting point is 00:43:36 Any honorable mentions you guys want to throw out there? I had five. niche and more related to my childhood and my proclivities than the broader spectrum of action. So I decided to go broader, but Bruce Campbell would have been my next
Starting point is 00:43:52 pick. One fun one. For martial arts fans who might be familiar with 70s martial arts, a guy named Sunny Cheba, who was the street fighter, who was a phenomenal action star. Speaking of action stars from across the pond, Shokasugi,
Starting point is 00:44:08 the greatest ninja to have ever lived. Joe Don Baker was a great action star when he was in Wauken Taw and Mitchell and all of those movies and then a great American action star who I think flies under the radar but did really solid work for canon films Michael Dutikoff.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Interesting. My only honorable mention one I'll throw out there is Rowdy Roddy Piper they live in Hellies a Frogtown. Cool fight scene. Put on the glasses and he just fucking beating him up
Starting point is 00:44:40 the alley. That's such a long scene. I had, even though it's been auto-corrected to Chow Yin Fat, Chow Yun Fat was my
Starting point is 00:44:48 probably the one I would have done if I didn't do the bonds. Chia Yon fat's group. Just based on hard-boiled and a
Starting point is 00:44:57 Crathing tiger like shit. My tails pick was Liam Neeson because he is. Come on strong in the action movie department. Andrew,
Starting point is 00:45:06 Andrew, you want to run down your list of a I don't know if I need to A lot of them are just like kind of obvious ones. I guess I'd highlight one that I don't think would have been on anybody else's board that I really like is Jean Renault. Oh, interesting.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Oh, yeah, that's a great thing. Can I just ask, is Taylor Kitch on your list? No. Wow. Imagine if I had Taylor Kitch above the rock in an action movie list. Crazy. My list is essentially been entirely drafted. Like, outside of the wrestlers.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Uh-huh. everyone, for the most part, is here. I say like 15 of my 25. So I'm glad. Wow. That I did 25. Well, that is the action stars draft. One of two action drafts that we're doing.
Starting point is 00:45:52 The other one will be action characters. And that's when you definitely want to check out. But guys, you can check out the Patreon. Patreon.com slash the Regulation Pod. You can also check out the podcast and the gameplay videos. A lot of gameplays coming out. A lot of fun stuff. any parting words for the folks at home,
Starting point is 00:46:11 any action stuff, any action stunts you guys want to do before we go? My team would beat up everybody's team. My team made better movies. I just realized that we didn't have JCVD or Steven Segal on. Oh, yeah. I thought Steven Seagall, I wasn't ever going to drop it.
Starting point is 00:46:26 No. Yeah, same. JVD, damn. There you go. Whoops. There you have it. All right, guys. We'll see you next time.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Bye. Getting ready for a game means being ready for anything. Like packing a spare stick.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I like to be prepared. That's why I remember, 988, Canada's suicide crisis helpline. It's good to know, just in case. Anyone can call or text for free confidential support from a train responder anytime. 988 suicide crisis helpline is funded by the government in Canada.
