Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life?
You know the same way you can skip an ad?
I get it.
I'm Siaia and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today I'm still figuring it out.
Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently, that's how I roll.
So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride.
Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem.
and welcome to the summer battle movie extravaganza recap.
The summer's over.
There's like an actual name for it and I just don't understand.
Summer shoot them up, extravaganza fun fest.
If ever the opportunity for an extravaganza raises itself, I say take it.
Yeah, I think extravaganza is fun and underused.
We should have more travaganza.
Yeah.
Now, we, this season, we'd change something called.
controversially people upset about the spirit of things.
We have some bonus stars.
We Mario partied this extravaganza
in which there are what?
Six categories?
Yeah, six different possible scenarios.
Three bonus stars will be given out.
Whoever wins the bonus star
gets 50 million to distribute
however they feel like.
However, this was not a competitive
competitive season. So I don't think anything will change with these results, but it's fine.
We can spin the wheel. I have an issue with the wheel.
Oh, okay, go ahead. No second wheel. Go to second wheel.
I don't, yeah, sure, whatever. Yeah, make it a valid wheel. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
So to recap the bonus categories, we have lowest metacritic score. Lowest box office earned. Most
movies delayed. Most movie's seen. Most theater popcorn eaten at home and the TPG
movie of the summer as well as go to second wheel. Shall we spin the wheel to determine what the
first bonus star will be and then who gets it? Yes. Yeah. Yes. Spin away. How many times you want to shuffle?
How many times did Andrew C? 26. 26. 26.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. It's also the year.
Oh.
3, 24, 25, 26, there's where we land.
Spin that wheel.
All right, here we go.
Here's our first category.
Spin it there.
I don't have any audio.
Oh, please.
Please.
Oh.
Nice.
What a great spin.
One that all of us have a shot at.
Bonus star.
Now, this is great.
I texted TPG yesterday.
Asking him.
what in his opinion was the movie of the summer.
I will read his text.
Any guesses?
Does anyone have any gut feelings to what the TPG movie of the summer is?
I think it'll be furious.
Mutiny.
Odyssey.
Odyssey, Furious?
You have any guesses, Gavin?
Yeah, one of them.
Okay?
One of them.
Great.
Thank you.
His reply.
First thing that came to mind was the furious.
She came out on June 12th.
But actually, oh, the end of Oak Street is TPG's movie of the summer.
Wow.
The dinosaur one?
The dinosaur one.
Who had the end of Oak Street?
Who had the end of Oak Street, Andrew?
That would be Gavin.
Wow.
What?
Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Okay.
That's a kind of must be correct.
That's a Cloverfield movie, right?
It's supposed to be, but I think it wasn't.
Gavin doesn't
My mistake
Nick
I have it
Nick has just
Wow
We leave it up to Andrew
And I double checked and I made it right
I was looking at it
I pulled it up
He fixed it in the moment
I fixed it in the moment
Just Gavin ended up with like
13 of the final 14 movies
And it came out at the end
So I just went with that
And then double check
By guessing you really got my hopes up there
I did but it went
Oh yeah you needed it
Went to Nick
Nick, how would you like to distribute your 50 million?
I'll take it.
I'll just take it.
You'll just take it.
And with Nick taking it, it doesn't change the placement in the standings at all.
Nick is now at 484 million.
Shouldn't we look at the results?
Yeah, it seems like we should look at the results before you just start saying kind of showing that stuff.
It seemed like we would do this three times and then apply the 50 million.
Yeah, let's do that.
whatever it each thing.
Let's spin the wheel again.
Spin the wheel again.
I gotta see this end of Oak Street movie, I guess.
Yeah, I think it is or it isn't Cloverfield?
Lowest metacritic score.
It feels like it could be part of that, but no, it's not, I don't think.
Oh, okay.
Lowest metacritic score, Andrew.
Lowest metacritic score.
Now, we are going to need another wheel for this.
What is what we're going to need?
Why is that?
Because we have a three-way tie.
There are three movies that all have the lowest Metacritic score.
Love it.
It is.
Ice cream man.
Oh, wow.
Really?
The breadwinner.
That doesn't surprise me.
Cool.
And spa weekend.
Okay.
Now, I believe Gavin has two of these.
Nice.
Double check.
Let me go through it.
I think Jeff has one going off of my memory.
Yes, Jeff has spa weekend.
Could be a guess, though.
And Gavin.
has ice cream man as well as, what was the third one?
The breadwinner?
Is that that Nate Bart Gatsi movie?
Yes, it is.
Who has the breadwinner?
Do you want me to shuffle three times?
Jeff has the breadwinner.
So Jeff has Spall weekend and the breadwinner.
So he has a two chances.
You don't need this.
I have the bread.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, way, be.
I'm looking at the list.
I'm working as it goes.
It's not confusing.
Spin the wheel.
It's not confusing?
No, because I'm explaining as we go and I'm being definitive and I'm double checking.
You're just sitting at a wheel spinning.
You can do this as well.
It's not confusing.
It's not.
Spin the fucking wheel.
It's not confusing.
Are we going to shuffle this at all?
No.
Spin it.
It's not confusing.
It's crazy.
It didn't have a good second win.
Ice cream, man.
Gavin, you get.
50 million. Are you sure?
You still get, okay. I'm noting that.
You still got to Gavin.
So Nick, Nick and Gavin so far.
Remove that second wheel. And we're back
to the first wheel and the final spin. Andrew,
are you ready? I'm ready. Here we go.
Final spin this thing.
Oh man.
Oh. Most movies delayed.
So I just want to note that all of
the conversation about the spirit of most
movie scene was completely pointless.
had no impact on anything.
Wasn't a thing played out in anyway.
This whole thing kind of feels pointless.
No, there's plenty of point to this.
High stakes.
I got it.
Got it.
High stakes, got it.
Somebody who came in negative last would say.
Andrew, who has mutiny's about to take charge?
If Amazon didn't screw it up, I would have been the number one.
Most movies delayed.
Who had the most movies delayed?
That would be Gavin.
Wow, Gavin got two of the bonus stars.
The Rich Get Rich.
bitch get bitcher. And now
we look at
thanks to regulation fan
the summer movie auction results
Whoa
Gavin here it is
so this is the first time we've done this
where the winner
got over
1.5 billion and it's the first time we've had
anyone lose who got over a billion
typically the billion dollar mark
has been like if you get a billion you win
not the case this year. You know what's
interesting too? It correlates to
most money, most movies,
least money, least movies.
It's true.
That isn't true.
It's something to think about.
And look, and you can see it up and down.
12-9-95.
Yeah.
Can we see that?
Because you guys are,
you guys are neck-and-neck here
at three and four
with nine movies each.
And then you can see the way it's spread out.
It's pretty good.
And you can even look at the graphs.
Something to think about next year.
Yeah.
You can see Odyssey and you can see Spider-Man.
Huge leaps.
Wow.
And Spider-Man just kept going.
I believe that yesterday, I think yesterday, Spider-Man overtook the Force Awakens as the highest grossing domestic movie of all time.
Of all time.
Yes.
Does that mean there's seven now?
Over a billion?
I think there's seven.
I believe.
There's one, there's none over a billion, but this could be the first one.
So show you just screaming the money and then we can go through all everybody's movie list and talk about movies?
Absolutely.
Sure.
All right.
So Nick.
Nick, what do you want to do with your 50 million?
I want it.
Okay.
So, Nick.
84 million.
Nick's at 484.
It did nothing.
You have 100 million.
What do you want to do with it?
I would like to deduct that for myself, please.
You're going to take 100 million away from yourself.
So you're at one, you're at 1.5 billion now.
What's so funny is that it didn't change.
The 150 million couldn't change anybody's place.
I guess if it all went to Eric, he could have gone up more.
Yeah, I got a leapfrog.
Oh, could you imagine if I got all of them and I leapfrog Nick into fourth and
finish flat?
funny. He would have been, he would have been
pissed. We'll just have to be a little, we'll just have to be better,
they'll have to be more parody next summer. I think so.
I have a shrewder movie executive for how we do this next summer that we're going to
test in a piece of advent content we haven't recorded yet, but I think it will
create a really fun wrinkle to all of this and it will be a different experience next year.
Is it going to be kind of like this, kind of like the Christmas Day Games one?
because I just found out
Darren Fox might get traded
to the clippers
and that might kind of fuck up
my whole thing.
No, it won't be like that.
I kind of need to make
some changes to my day
to my lineup.
He might not play for an eligible team.
That is a wrinkle.
That is a problem.
Hey, Christmas Day problem for you.
It's not going to be like that.
It'll be a different thing.
But I'm excited to see how it plays out
and I think you guys will like it.
But that is for the,
the future. How are you guys feeling about how this all, like Gavin, just monstrous,
running away with it. That's got to be a pretty high dollar spent to dollar return ratio
on a Spider-Man. I don't know if it was the best. Yeah. I mean, that's in 12 because it was so
late here. Yeah. All timer. $78 million per point. That's pretty crazy. It came down to the
Odyssey is what happened. Yeah. You and I were both going back.
and forth on The Odyssey, and if you would have won the Odyssey, then I would have ended up
with all of the movies you got, essentially, from that point onward, it would have flipped.
That's crazy.
So by getting the Odyssey, you lost.
By getting The Odyssey, I lost, yeah.
Because then you were the only one with money for buying out the rest.
That's why you got Spider-Man for, like, 12th, because nobody else that is.
What do you guys think were the biggest surprises of the year in terms of film?
It's definitely the backroom's an obsession.
Yes.
Yeah, Obsession doing $260 million.
is insane. Right here. And backroom's almost doing 200 itself.
Let's just go through the sequencing from last place, the first, and discuss the movies however
we want to. Eric, do you want to open up your movie list?
Animal Farm.
So Animal Farm, you know, didn't really pull for me, but that was just a fun pick.
Mandalorian and Grogu, really a box office bomb, but you want to talk about a bomb here, man.
Disclosure Day?
What, ugh.
But there's another world where that does Steven Spielberg numbers, and this is a whole different race.
Like, this is just not there anymore.
I want to talk about some of these movies.
Animal Farm.
I was going to see.
And then it turns out Andy Circus kind of sucks in a way that's disappointing.
And also there's like, I think AI usage in Animal Farm.
So I skipped out on that.
Let me put my list.
I ranked all of these movies and I have notes for them.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is a movie.
Am I the only one that saw that?
I know Emily was excited about the idea.
Did not.
We did not see it now.
No, I didn't see it.
I've never seen the show and I, the movie made me question why anyone liked the show.
And I'm sure the show was good.
It was like a Western at first.
But it's just like all of the characters were so uninteresting and the greatest performance of the movie is Martin Scorsese is this weird food vendor guy who also should be doing more voice acting.
He's done two roles that I'm aware of this and Shark Tale and he is fantastic in both of them.
Like way more than he needs to be.
he's the genuine star of the
Maniloreen of Grosu and he has like two scenes
but what a boring movie
that I wish
one of you guys who had seen the show
watched just so I could have
like some concept of
how accurate it is
feeling to the show
and then Disclosure Day did you see that?
We need to talk about Disclosure Day
Disclosure Day is a movie that
Eric saw and was like I need to talk to somebody
about this so I was very excited to eventually watch it
is so bad.
It was so bad.
Yeah.
Just sort of like,
I just don't know
like what the point was.
Well,
the point,
there's a question in it
that
they think is very interesting
but they also don't
because they don't give a lot of time to it.
They don't spend any time with it
and they don't answer it
and they don't do anything
that would be interesting with it, yes.
The sort of question of disclosure day
is can you reveal that aliens
were here
because how would that impact religion otherwise?
What if people stop believing in God
is sort of the big question of the movie
but they don't really explore it in any way?
At all.
There's like one scene.
But that's sort of the thing
and I guess I don't know,
spoilers for disclosure.
Do you guys care?
Like I don't think you can spoil
Disclosure Day.
Who cares?
Spoil it.
Who cares?
Spoil it sucks.
Spoil it.
I mean, listen,
if you don't want it to be spoiled,
stop listening right here, but I don't give a fuck
spoil it for me. The problem of the movies
it's called Disclosure Day and the entire
conflict of the film is will Disclosure
Day happen but certainly it will happen
because it's called Disclosure Day.
It has
it's called it's Colin Firth. Yeah,
Colin Firth is chasing them the whole time.
They are being chased
to a NBC affiliate
local news station in St. Louis, Missouri
where they're going to
divulge all the secrets of aliens
and then when he's like he almost catches them
a number of times and then when
they are all in the same place the local
NBC affiliate in St. Louis
he has them and then he goes
never mind and then he just takes a seat
and then they just disclose everything
and you go so what was this? So would
you feel differently about the film if the title was changed
to Disclosure Day question mark?
Way better. Way better movie.
It is a thing
for like one of the problems to me is that
you know like Stevens Spielberg famously
with Jurassic Park used a lot of practical
effects and because of that
those dinosaurs really hold up
and when you watch that movie like they look good
all of the aliens
and alien footage in this movie is
CG and it looks CG
because like it looks so CG
it looks very CG and it's also
a world in which they established that like
AI is a
thing like they do a thing where when they're seeing the alien
footage are like oh we're running an AI scan
on it and it's real but it just looks
CG so there's like this disconnect to me
of people watching this know what CG looks like it would
just be like oh this is fake this is just CD
does it answer the question how does
how does disclosure day affect religion or does it
do like a Terminator 3 ending where it like ends
right at the moment it does a terminator 3
it does a thing where the final moment in the movie is the
alien is going to talk and say something and they're about to say what the alien said and then
it ends because he thinks that the exciting moment will be the conversation you have once the
movie ends discussing the possibility of it but it's really not that interesting of a question it's a
movie where they go we have to put this online and then the carry like one of the characters he goes no
no one will ever believe it we have to go to a real news source the nbc affiliate in st louis
Missouri. Yes, that's truly what will save us. TV news. And it was like, whoa, we are, I am of a different
generation than Steven Spielberg. I also, conspiracy theory, have a feeling that Steven Spielberg
did not direct a majority of this movie. There are moments of levity that feel like Spielberg and the
rest of the movie doesn't feel like him at all. It's very strange. It's a very tonally weird movie.
You know, it's interesting that they chose St. Louis.
There's a lot of money in Disclosure Day.
I mean, you figure it's going to bring in so much tourism
to the city of St. Louis.
They're going to build like some sort of a theme park around it.
There's going to be a big statue, you know.
It's going to...
That's what I figured, and here we are.
My favorite moment in the movie is when they're doing the news thing
and they're revealing like the alien footage to the public,
there's a moment in which one of the people working argues
that they shouldn't share it with Fox or CNN
because it's an NBC exclusive
and I thought that was hilarious.
I love that.
It's so stupid.
And the way to fix this movie
is something I talked to Eric about.
I think that this movie becomes awesome.
If all you have to do
is make the aliens be ET.
If they were all ET,
this movie rocks.
If this was a secret ET movie,
I am so on board with all of the other nonsense
that is in this film.
This is also a better movie
if instead of like Emily Blunt and
was it Josh O'Connor or whatever
if instead of adult actors
it's kids.
This is a much better movie if they are 12 years old
and having to like figure this out as kids.
That's E.T.
Jeff, this movie is better if E.T. is involved
in any way she performs.
What if they replaced all the guns
with walkie-talkies?
What I'm hearing is this movie was better
the first time when it was E.
Yeah. I like this movie more than
the main alert and Grogu.
The main and Lernery and Grotie would
22nd movie on the list.
Disclosure Day was 18.
Wow, that's terrible.
I don't want to watch.
Next one on the list is I want your sex.
This is chasing Amy for Genzi.
I watched this movie last night.
Got Cooper Hoffman in it.
I like him a lot.
She's good.
Yeah, that's a bug.
It has like $1 million.
I double-checked that last night.
I don't know why.
Oh, that would put me up above.
I would change everything for you, Eric.
And then lastly,
A million dollars to me means a lot here.
On Eric's list is mutiny.
I didn't see it.
Jason Statham boat movie.
Why?
You could easily see it if you just go to Amazon.com and go to view the trailer.
And then the whole movie was right there.
Oh, really?
Yeah, you get it in two and a half minutes.
Did you not hear about this?
Does he stop the bad guys?
No, I didn't know.
I thought you're doing a bit.
There was, they were preparing it for streaming, like right before the movie came out in
theaters.
And instead of hitting.
the file that is, here's the trailer
so you can watch the trailer for it.
They uploaded the whole movie.
The trailer is like, yes.
How long was it like that?
So it was, it was immediately pirated.
It was, it was like that for a lot, like,
not like days, but it was there for like, I think a few
hours. People immediately pirated it.
So I will stand by.
Wow, this is taking a while to upload.
Yeah, I would have, I think I would have
won this competition if mutiny didn't get screwed
by Amazon. Yeah, how many hundreds of
millions do you think were lost because of that?
I'll say it, billions, Jeff.
Well, those are Nick's.
Maybe that's just me.
And now we can go to Nick's.
Nick.
Oh, boy.
Ooh, what the hell is deep water?
Oh, we can go with deep water.
I have notes about deep water.
I was so excited about Deepwater because Deepwater is a Reni Harlan production.
And Reni Harlan is my favorite Schlock director.
He makes bad movies that are fun, but they're bad.
And he did The Impossible in Deepwater.
and just made a really boring shark movie
with Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley.
Ben Kingsley.
I'm already bored.
They crash a plane into the ocean
and then there are sharks that eat people,
but they really don't know what to do
once the plane crashes.
They run out of ideas.
The only cool part of the movie
is there's a scene in which Aaron Eckhart
shoots a shark through the face
with a flare gun.
That rocked, but that's pretty cool.
Not worth watching.
One of the worst movies I've seen,
it's 25th on my life.
list of 27.
Whoa.
Wow.
Rami.
So then leads us to the sheep detectives, which I think Nick and I are the only two that
have seen it.
It's a cute movie.
It was good.
It was cute.
I think in my notes, I have babies first who done it.
Like, it's just, it's a fun, like, it's a family movie and it's a, like, a good
introductory way, I think, to that genre.
It is way better than it needs to be.
Absolutely.
I was not expecting them to go for the,
emotional note either, even though
their owner dies.
Yeah. It does have
like, it is
an emotional movie, but not in like,
I don't know. The way that I heard about it going
into it, people are like, this movie's gonna fucking
devastate you. And it's sweet.
I'm surprised it didn't, I feel
like it got more hype than money
made. I feel like
people talked about it a lot more. I'm surprised
it didn't make a hundred million, just based on how
much I heard it discussed and referenced.
It's very funny that it is,
adapted from a book and the guy that adapted it is the same guy that did Chernobyl and the last of us.
Totally very different.
Oh, really?
Yes.
Some range.
Cheap detective is my eighth movie on the list.
And now we go to In the Grey, which is a movie I really wish any of you had seen.
Because it is the strangest structured movie I think I've ever watched.
It is a Guy Ritchie movie.
Oh, this is the Jake Jeline.
one. Yes. It's him and Henry Cavill and they're like fixers essentially for this lady. And you know in like a
heist movie there's the scene where they're like, okay, so we're going to send the guy into the vault and
he's been training to do this. And while he's doing that, this guy is going to detonate smoke bombs in
this room and they like kind of show the montage of like what the prep is and how they're going to
execute this thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The entire movie is that. They never stopped doing that. Every scene is
that every scene is a character explaining what they're doing and why they're doing it while
then showing them do it and then none of it ends up happening the way that they like it kind of does
but like the whole point is that things fall apart kind of um and it sucks it's not witty
it's not fun and all of the stuff that they're explaining genuinely feels like heist prep for a gta
heist. It is GTA
Heist Prep the movie
with like nothing but exposition.
It is so weird.
Do you think someone just fed AI
old Guy Ritchie movies and then it shot
this script out?
Kind of.
But like those have way more jokes in it.
Like Guy Ritchie at his best is a pretty
funny like kind of goofy
director and this is very serious.
Yeah, but it's been a long time since
he's been at his best man.
Oh it has been. I like the gentleman
but even that's like
It's like not good.
Not as good as the prior stuff.
The TV shows real good, the Netflix show.
That's what I hear.
Oh, they did the show.
I watched the first season.
The first season was also.
I hear the second season is also very good.
But yeah, it's a weird movie that I hope one of you sees
just so I can talk about it.
Because it is.
Okay.
It's so strange.
All right.
I'll see it.
But not like negatively watchable.
Next, we go into pressure,
which I think is a Hall of Fame dad movie.
If you have a dad in your life that means a movie,
pressure is their move.
It is, I went into it, not knowing the plot.
It is based on a true story, the conflict between meteorologists organizing for D-Day.
There is a Scottish meteorologist and an American meteorologist, and they need the weather to be a certain condition for them to be able to initiate D-Day.
and it's them trying to predict what the weather will be
48 hours later on that day and arguing
can they go or not. Is this the Brendan Fraser movie?
Yes. Brendan Fraser.
Is he one of the weather guys? No. Oh, no, he's the whale.
He is the whale. He's like a
Eisenhower or something. I don't remember who he plays. He plays like a
historic. I think it's Eisenhower.
It's good. It's
It's a really good movie.
It does the,
based on a true story thing,
where there is an emotional conflict
about halfway through the movie
that I looked into
and is completely made up,
which I always feel kind of uncomfortable about
with movies that are,
about real events.
But it's such a great dad movie.
It is just two guys arguing
about what the weather would be
and why they're wrong
about why they think the weather
will be the way that it is.
It's awesome.
I would recommend it.
Great.
Seven mil per points.
Pretty good.
Seven mil per point.
and also seventh on my list.
And now we move to Jeff's favorite Masters of the Universe.
I think Jeff and I are the only ones that have seen this.
I did see it.
I did, I did indeed see it.
And I think we have very different opinions because we both have different opinions
about He Man and Masters of the Universe as a lot.
I mean, I don't know.
What was your opinion of the film?
I really enjoyed it.
It's definitely way too long, but I thought it was fun.
I thought it was fun, and it made me care about He-Man in a way I never cared about before,
but I don't think that they necessarily portrayed He-Man in a way that people that like He-Man would enjoy.
I found it to be boring at pretty much every turn.
And I was surprised because I thought the trailer was pretty great,
and I thought the casting was pretty great, and I was excited for the premise and go,
going into it, I feel like I was easy to please.
And I just couldn't be mustered,
muster enough energy to give a shit at any turn in the film.
And it just,
it just happened in front of me until it finally stopped happening.
Yeah, I wanted to like it.
I would give it like a D plus.
That's so funny,
because I came from the opposite end
where I thought the trailer looked terrible.
I have no love for this property in any way.
And I ended up really enjoying it,
even though it is way too long.
In the middle, there's like a section
where they're trying to hammer
in like kind of emotional moments between
D-Man and Idris Elba
that felt unnecessary.
Yep.
But I found the movie to be funny
and I enjoyed the action in it
and I liked how ridiculous
the characters were.
When the humor worked for me,
I thought it was cute.
It just very rarely worked for me,
unfortunately.
Sure.
I saw what they were trying to go for.
I just didn't land, unfortunately.
And I definitely don't think I'm like
precious about the masters
of the universe, universe or anything.
don't give that much of a shit about He-Man.
I just, uh, I feel positively about it, you know.
Did they play for non-blones?
What, sorry?
Did they play for and on the movie?
What's going on? Yeah. Yeah, did they do that.
He did not play.
Oh, that's all shame.
Who cares, then?
Skeletor is awesome, though. I hate to give Jared Leto credit in anyway, but he did a great
job, in my opinion. There you go.
How was he still in movies?
I know. He pretty, he, he produces them.
Yeah. He produces them. Like, that's how he's how he,
gets cast is that he puts the money up for this stuff.
It's so funny that they made a Morbius movie
but never made the blade movie.
The fact that only Morbius
happened. Well, I think they made the Morbius
movie and that's why they didn't make the Blamee movie.
The next movie is the invite.
Did you see that, Andrew?
I did. I saw it like two days ago. My wife
loved this movie. It's so good. It's fantastic.
She said it is phenomenal. She's been trying
to get me to watch it. We haven't had time, but she's been trying to
get me to watch it. And it's like, all right,
like we got to sit down and see the she
loved it loved it loved it
surprisingly funny
feels very genuine all of the characters
and also I don't know how on purpose
it is because you know like
obviously a lot of ego
in Hollywood but they cast
this movie perfectly where like all of
the characters are sort of playing
into the persona of how
we view these people as celebrities
like Edward Norton
is sort of this obnoxious
douchebag but isn't really aware of
how he comes across to other people.
Seth Rogan is overly sarcastic
and it's kind of an asshole in that way.
Like it is, they're playing against type
of their perception of them as celebrities
in a way that I think is interesting.
And it's also really well shot for a movie that takes
place essentially in just an apartment
the entire time.
Really good choices. Great movie.
It ended up being my third favorite movie
of the summer. Oh, wow. Oh, wow.
That's way up there, man. Bronze metal.
Bronze metal. And then the number
two, the silver goes to minions and monsters, right?
Minions and monsters is good.
And I'm shocked to say it.
It's really well done.
It is better than Toy Story, which I never thought I would say.
They also didn't get rewarded for it.
Because on the scale of minions money makers,
they made like 183 movie.
It is a love letter to old Hollywood and old monster movies.
And it is creative and thoughtful and ways that despicable me
or minions has never been or has tried to be.
I fear that they won't ever try again
based on how much it made, but...
Because they got punished for it?
Yes.
Do you think it's just minion fatigue there?
It could be both.
I'm...
I'm honestly surprised
that minion fatigue didn't happen
the last cycle.
The last movie was a huge hit for Nick, I believe,
and I thought that was going to be
where it fell off.
Yeah.
I think that $200 million is about
where these movies deserve to be
at this point in their cycle, I don't think.
It is an insane cast
of Christoph Waltz is in this movie.
Jesse Eisenberg is in this movie.
Kids love Christoph Waltz.
They cannot get enough of Christoph Waltz.
It is, I remember seeing an interview before I'd seen a trailer or anything of Jesse
Eisenberg being like, yeah, I'm in this because it's all about old Hollywood and like
saluting the past and is like, yeah, creative in that way.
And I went like, fuck off.
This is a money.
It's minions.
And then I saw it.
I went, oh, shit, okay.
He was right.
Yeah.
Is that Nick's worst value per point or is there one worse above that?
Oh, it has to be.
It has to be.
Yeah, three.
And it was such a,
it was such a home loan last year.
In the gray.
Yeah,
in deep water.
I really did myself in because then I couldn't challenge Gavin on anything else.
I mean that,
but,
but again,
there's a world,
there's a universe like Disclosure Day,
where this fucking bangs.
And we all just have a different conversation.
That's true.
I don't think that,
I agree that there's fatigue with some of this stuff.
Like,
definitely.
but if this was
800 million
all of us would be like
damn man it really did well but hey
it's minions
it's just
it's just a swing
right it's just the way it is
it's gonna make next year interesting when minions
32 comes out and we have to
have to figure out is it the hit or is it
the bomb well we gotta figure out
which which like YouTube series
that they turn it spooky YouTube series
they turn into a movie if that's gonna be
out of one they all follow Mr. Beast.
Yeah.
Mr. Beast.
Didn't, didn't, wasn't there like a larger gap
before, Dispicable Me 4 though?
And that's like, maybe that's why it had such a big impact.
Yeah.
Maybe.
Oh, probably.
I think, I think it had been a few years at least since the last
minions thing.
There's also despicable me.
It's an onion.
What isn't an onion is the end of Oak Street,
the TPG movie of the summer.
Which I also watched last night after TPG declared it, the movie of the summer.
And it is the best Spielberg movie in years.
Wow.
Michael and Jordan were both talking pretty highly about it.
100% eat.
They were like super into it.
And I've watched a bunch of it on TikTok.
Not enough to say I've watched the full movie, but I've seen a bunch of it on TikTok.
And it looks very cool.
It is cool.
It's the idea of seeing a bunch of a movie, but not watching the movie.
Yeah, I might watch the movie.
I've just seen a bunch of it on TikTok.
It has an ending that has fucked me up in a way that I wasn't expecting.
Oh, wow.
Cool.
Yeah, but, like, I don't think it meant to.
Like, I don't think the movie considers what it...
It's hard to explain without just spoiling it, and I don't want to spoil it.
But it ends in a way that they're supposed to...
You're supposed to just kind of have a certain emotion about it, but if you step back and
evaluate as a whole what the implication is, it's incredibly...
dark, I get.
It's very odd.
It's a very odd thing.
I don't think they intend
to leave you
with the questions they do.
It is like
Disclosure Day
by accident
where I ended that movie
and wanted to talk
to somebody about the ending
and what it meant
and so I'm excited for
at some point
someone else to see it
that I know.
I'll watch it soon.
12th favorite movie
of the summer.
Wow.
And then we have
the dog stars
a Ridley Scott joint
Dude
This is like people who think that
Ridley Scott still have gas
Went to go see this
And they just went what hat
What is this is a book thing right?
It is a book
Okay
I think people were especially mad
Because
Obviously there's a dog in the dog stars
And in the novel
The dog dies of old age
Where in the movie
The dog gets like shot and killed
What my God
Fuck you
Yeah
They like escalated in a way of
I didn't end up
I was listening to the audio book
And there's a whole shootout in the audio book
Over a truck that has Coca-Cola in it
I was like I wonder if that made it into the movie
And so I read the Wikipedia for the movie
And ended up further than I expected
So I just ended up reading what happens in the whole film
But yeah I was reading the discourse on
I think the dog gets shot in a conflict
And it's a sad death type thing
And that fuels the character to go forward
we're in the novel that is not an
part of the arc of the character.
This has nothing to do with basketball.
Shocking one.
Making sure.
Zero basketball.
He's not the dog of the dog stars, is he?
No, he's the dog of the past of the dog stars.
But those are Nick?
The thing that I saw
from this was,
hey, so why is everyone wearing Carhart
like expensive clothes?
that are like so clean in like this crazy post-apocalypse movie.
Oh, it's post-apocalyptic?
Yes.
I don't know.
It's like, I don't know how far in it's supposed to be.
It's very.
It is so clean looking.
Is it very post-pacling?
No, it's like there is a disease.
Yeah.
Oh, I see.
Just society.
People got sick and died.
Dude, society.
I hear you, Joker.
Hey, these are Nix movies.
Those are Nix movies.
Locked in.
But next we have to.
Jeff. Jeff's movies. I'm Jeff.
Starting with the Devil Wears Prada 2.
Damn, that's a huge return on this.
That's a huge get. Exactly as I expected it to.
It was sold, reliable.
It was great for me. Not like some of these other fucking movies.
They're really letting down.
People love that first Devil Wars Prada movie, and I feel like they did justice to that in this one.
Absolutely.
I'm not one of those people. I thought it was.
fine, but like when I watch Devil Wars
Prada 2, it reads this fan service
in a way that I'm totally okay with.
Huge in the periphery of my world.
Sure. Devil Wars product, yeah. It's fine.
It's a totally average
is 14th on my list.
Wow. That's almost as good as the end
of Oak Street. Yeah. It's good.
Like, I have a range, essentially anything
where there's, uh,
disclosure day is my, actually
Supergirl is my range of like,
you don't need to see this.
Ah, there you go. There's no value.
Uh,
but next.
Is God is.
Is God is.
Jeff, did you see that too?
I didn't see it.
I didn't see it.
I didn't see it.
It's just me.
I don't know that I saw any of my movies.
Oh, I did see, uh, yeah, one of them.
It's awesome.
I couldn't recommend Is God is enough.
It is a revenge movie with so much style and, uh, it's one of those things like
creatively where you watch where it's somebody who has a completely different background
than you, making something that is incredibly inspired and how cool that is.
inspiring to you as a person.
It's awesome and
it's sort of a perfect
example of like the importance
of representation to me.
Of just it isn't, you can give me an
infinite amount of time and I'm never making that
movie and it's such an awesome,
cool movie in so many ways. Couldn't
recommend it enough. I'll definitely see that one too.
But next. I won't
see. Is the breadwinner.
Bargotsie
comedy film.
They gave you $5 million. Five million per point, Jeff.
I expected that to be a $40 to $60 million film.
I was disappointed.
I'm sure they were too.
Yeah.
This is my worst movie of the summer.
Yay.
That's what I've read.
Which I didn't expect after watching Scary Movie Six.
It certainly can't be worse than Scary Movie Six.
It is so much worse in like not even an offensive way.
It just is there's no jokes.
Like there's nothing funny.
about the movie, there's no...
Is it a comedy?
It's just...
It's supposed to be.
Yeah, and this is his first effort.
He's like a stand-up comedian, like a really...
Successful and kind of at the top of these.
...turing stand-up comedian.
This is like his first movie.
And a lot of the like...
Supposed to be jokes are ripped from his stand-up.
And it just doesn't translate.
Like, the credits of the movie are showing the scenes that...
It's showing him doing stand-up
and then showing the scenes in the movie
that are the jokes of the stand-up.
And there's just nothing...
That's more interesting
than an actual movie.
Seinfeld the movie?
Seinfeld the movie.
That's so weird.
Shark Tank is weirdly
a very important part
of this film as well
in a way that felt like
who are you aiming this for?
There's Tennessee Titans
imagery
constantly in this thing
to the point where I was like,
did they pay
to be part of this?
But I guess he's just a big Titans
fan and then it made me wonder like I wonder how the Titans feel about watching the
shit movie that they're plastered all over I would love to be that kind of successful we'd
be like all right Jeff we wanted to be a romantic comedy you're the lead and I'm like okay cool so
it's a romantic comedy about the Celtics and I'm the lead yes yeah you just shoehorn in there's
such an unnecessary subplot of like getting season tickets for the Titans yeah and I get to meet
somehow Larry Bird and I are friends and we're in like four scenes together
looking at Jeff's list
is interesting the rut of just like, oh boy.
Because we now move on to scary movie six.
Oh man, I did see this one.
Wow.
Ah, not good.
I will say, my wife enjoyed it.
Got exactly what she wanted out of it.
Wow.
Yeah.
She's a fan of the franchise in a way that I'm not.
It had two jokes in it that I thought were funny.
Oh, that's great.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
One of them is that the main.
two jokes in it.
Well, it has way more, unfortunately.
That's the problem.
They try a lot.
There's a lot of attempts.
I just feel like that genre died so long ago, the spoofy.
Yeah.
It did not.
It made $100 million.
Yeah, it did really well.
There will be a scary movie seven.
I assume.
Yeah, definitely.
There's a character where like their anxiety medication is just labeled daddy issue or mommy issues.
I thought that was funny.
And then it has a really good ending.
I will give it that.
They do something at the end that I think is funny and clever,
reflecting on the series as a whole
in the fact that the Wayans are back involved in this
and they weren't for a large section.
I think they did one and two and then three, four, and five
were other people.
Now they're back for six.
And that's that.
I have nothing else to say about it.
It sucks.
Supergirl is the next movie on Jeff's list
that I was so disappointed by
because I love Superman.
It was great.
Everyone was disappointed by this, I think.
I think everyone's really bummed out about this one.
This is where my summer falls apart.
Like I'm doing well here for the, for the, in all, you know, for the most part.
And then what should be a $600 million film is a $72 million.
Crazy.
And it's not terrible.
It's just like so forgettably average.
It is a summer.
It is a movie that you go to because it's too hot and you don't have air conditioning.
so you want to spend like two hours in a movie theater and it delivers on that, but like...
Apparently it wasn't hot enough this summer.
So I only made like 12 million more than sheep detectives.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Way to go sheep detectives.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
Do you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life?
You know the same way you can skip an ad?
I get it.
I'm Siyaya and I live in Ice Cove.
I've made some questionable.
decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
And today, I'm still figuring it out.
Somehow things usually get worse before they get better.
Apparently, that's how I roll.
So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride.
Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem.
Next one for Jeff, another, another rough one.
Live action, Moana.
Yeah, I mean, I feel like the live action Disney movies should fall off a cliff.
I just thought I was
I thought it was the other side
of the cliff still.
No, no, yeah,
you totally.
Yeah.
I think it's not bad about with the rock.
Yeah.
It's weird.
It's maybe the only role
that the rock could play
where he's too small
to do it.
Like even him.
I,
I expected it to make
300 million.
I didn't think it would be
like insane,
but I expected to do
about twice as good as it.
Yeah.
I think that's a fair expectation.
And then we go to
Evil Dead Burn,
which I also did not see.
Didn't see.
I'm not a big body horror guy and that is really what people dead is about so I hear that's
that's apparently so body horror too is what I heard yeah so uh there you go and then we've cut off
which is a movie that I really want to see because it's a Jonah Hill film that is apparently
so bad that the studio doesn't want to release it so it didn't come out oh the tick
boy do I want to see that now I don't even know if they tax rid it off like I don't know what the
budget was, I think they were just like, we can't, we can't release this. We're not going to make
anybody else. I think as of now, there's still no release date planned. No, I think it's just shelved,
and it will never see the light today. It would be my game. Dang. And then we have small weekend,
which based on how much it earned, feels like it only released for one weekend at 6.9 million.
A small weekend. And those are Jeff's movies. Good movies. Good enough to get me right,
Right in the middle.
Dead center, my man.
Dead center.
Third place.
And here comes Andrew, a silver medal himself.
Andrew, I assume you saw most of these because they were yours.
Yes.
Okay.
Hocum, my favorite movie, the summer.
Even though it's not an all summer movie.
Wow.
It is, we're coming up on October.
Watch Hokem in October.
It is, to me, everything I want in a horror movie.
It has engaging characters, a kind of engaging hook.
There's a mystery to be solved.
It's awesome.
Couldn't recommend Hokem enough.
Great movie.
But then we go to Mortal Kombat 2, which is not a great movie.
The only note I have about Mortal Kombat 2 is I enjoyed Carl Urban in it.
He was fun whenever he was on screen.
Dude, I tried to watch it twice.
I never made it further than 45 minutes in.
Did you restart each time?
No, I picked up where I left off.
You put more quarters in halfway through?
Yeah, I put more quarters.
I watched part of it on a plane coming back from New York.
I was sitting next to Michael who had, I think, seen.
and I just kept leaning over to and going,
what is this?
What is happening?
Like, what is this movie?
Totally, it makes no sense with the first one.
It looks like a TV show.
It's so ugly.
It's shot like shit.
It doesn't make any sense.
Carl Urban,
I'm firmly planting my flag.
Carl Urban is a TV actor,
but there's no more TV shows.
So he has to do movies,
and it's unfortunate because he's a great TV actor,
but then they put him in Mortal Kombat
too and it does not help him out at all.
And it's like, it really is a bummer.
Calling someone who's in Lord of the Rings
and TV actors is funny.
He is, but he's not, he's not one of the guys.
Everyone goes, hell yeah, that's the Lord of the Rings guy.
They go, that's the guy from Dread.
Another movie that's like this where you go, yeah.
And that's the guy from the boys.
What about Star Trek?
Yeah, exactly.
A TV show.
Doom is what I think of Star Trek.
I think of Star Trek and the boys.
he they put him in a leading role in a movie like this and you go oh no but then they put him in stuff
like a show and you go great he's a great tv actor there's nothing wrong with being a tv actor no
i think he's fantastic there's not enough there's no shows on tv so he doesn't have anything to do
well the problem is that all the shows on tv are now starring tom hanks and yes exactly
matthew mconeh and like huge sucks uh yeah next that we have obsession which is a movie that
greatly overperformed expectations.
I expected it to make $100 million.
Like I thought this was going to be a sleeper hit,
but I don't think anyone projected it to be
what it ended up being.
$44 million a point.
Damn, dude.
That's got to be the second most valuable point.
Where did you rank out of your list?
Because you didn't like it as much as most people did.
I think it's like a well-made good movie,
but like I got nothing out of it.
I really struggle.
As I get older,
I've become softer.
And if a movie just is like about miserable
people having miserable things happen to them, it's really tough for me to get in.
I thought it was great because of that.
Yeah, and just like there was nothing, I don't think I had anything I could personally relate to
with any of the content that was happening. So there's nothing reflective for me as a viewer.
It was just kind of being in misery with other people and that is not a thing that I'm currently
searching for in my viewing. Oh man, some of it, so much of it felt familiar to me.
Yeah, see, like if I had that, I think I would be.
I'm kidding.
For the
for the purposes of this podcast,
I'm kidding.
Is I love boosters,
which is a really fun
heist movie
in a way that I didn't expect.
I feel like it's really lazy
to compare it to like a Wes Anderson movie
because it's very stylized,
but it does have sort of that
whimsy that West Anderson
movies have
where there is,
I don't think this is a spoiler
because it happens,
I'd say,
before the halfway point.
but there is a teleporter device
that gets introduced to this thing
and it really opens it up
in some fun ways. What the fuck?
It is a movie about stealing clothing
and sort of fashion as a whole
but it turns into
sort of this broader
sort of as I said it feels lazy
to compare but West Anderson's story about
like workers rights and unions
and people fighting power
in a way that is cool with
also a zany
teleporter device and also
puppets get introduced
and it goes a bunch of weird places.
It's cool.
I'd recommend I love boosters.
Also weird
is backrooms
which is the next movie on the list.
I think Eric and I are the only two
who saw this one.
I saw the ending.
Nick's seen the last 25 minutes
on a plane with no sound.
Being interrupted constantly
by announcements.
We're trying to take off
and they keep giving you announcements.
Why are you what should be ended?
Eric put it on.
I've seen it.
I wanted to see.
wanted to see the last 25 minutes again, so I put on the last 25 minutes of the movie.
I bet the last 25 minutes is where the backrooms are.
That's, hey, hey, almost exclusively in the back rooms in the last 25 minutes.
In fact, the rest of the movie, San Jose, California.
Yeah, it was a, you talked about when we discussed the movie, Eric, you were expecting more
backrooms in it.
I was expecting so much less, so I was happy with the amount of backrooms I got.
Our expectation is really different.
Yes, I'm so used to the, you know, the use.
type of movies that are about places
not actually going into the weird places.
So the fact that we spent like 30 minutes
in it consecutively, I was like, oh, this is...
So you're just mainly expecting normal rooms?
I was expecting normal rooms because I'm used to
like horror movies that are like, oh, there's a crazy
weird place and then you don't really go there
because they don't have the budget and or like
they're just trying to hook you or whatever.
So I was happy that was expecting what the first half
of the movie was, which was parking lot in
San Jose, California.
counselor's house in San Jose, California.
Dude, a furniture store in San Jose, California.
This is a good movie.
If you go into it knowing that it is a 20-year-old kid's first attempt at making a feature film,
and you have that expectation of like, what are we getting here,
which is a little bit thin.
The premise isn't super bulky, but you're getting good performances from everyone.
if this was somebody's third effort at making a movie,
I would be incredibly disappointed.
But a 20-year-old's first effort at making a feature film,
I was blown away with what I saw.
It's a perfect mystery box movie,
which has me concerned about,
I think they're making a sequel.
And I think so much of the charm is they set up so many things
that are kind of like fun to speculate on or think about,
but like the moment that they attempt to resolve any of those,
it becomes immediately uninteresting.
So I don't need more things in the backrooms.
I got exactly what I wanted out of that.
And then we can move on,
but they're not going to let it.
And they're going to make a bunch of sequels to this
and every other, you know, YouTube, scary, spooky copy pasta thing
that people want to do.
So that, and that's fine.
You know, they took the wrong sort of lesson away from what this was.
But that's okay.
They did.
And my biggest miss of this season is a movie called Power Ballad,
that nobody saw that I expected
would have some amount of buzz
because it is a Nick Jonas Paul Rudd movie
and I just I feel like those two combined
are probably worth more than 2.6 million
I think but clearly not
but it's great
it's a fun movie about
sort of stealing a song
and I think it's it's brave of Nick Jonas
because he is Nick Jonas
even though he has a different character name
but like there are scenes where he plays a character that was famous for being in a boy band
and who is now struggling to create their own music as an individual and not wanting to just
be viewed as the boy band guy and there's scenes of the movie where they're showing like him
in the boy band and it's just the other Jonas brothers like he's totally leaning into himself
and he is a dickhead in this movie which i respect play yourself as a complete asshole it's uh
It's a good movie.
I'd recommend it.
It's like top 10.
I think it's five, actually,
on my list of favorite summer movies.
And then we go to The Furious,
which is badass.
That movie kicks ass.
So good.
Incredible.
I think this is the one we've all seen
outside of Nick.
I think it's the one we've seen the most.
Or the most people have seen this,
is what I'm trying to say.
Yeah, I've seen it.
It was fun.
But without being good, I think.
Really?
You don't think it was good.
It's not good, Phil.
No, I didn't need it to be good.
I needed it to be a half hour fight with the guy who is bald and flops around like a frog man and like does headbutts and it's incredible.
I'm convinced he based his entire performance on Donkey Kong.
Yeah.
Didn't you tell me that?
Like, as a fact.
Oh, is that, yeah, I think that is the fact.
I think that's like what he said he was going for.
Dude, it rocks.
It's so cool.
Well, that's why you're convinced because he said it.
He convinced me himself, apparently.
Yeah.
I was like, if that's an opinion, then that's the problem because I told other people that as a fact because you told it to me as a fact.
So let's hope it's a fact.
That movie has a fight scene in it that is 2V2V1 and I've never seen that and that is fucking awesome.
That is such a cool idea.
It's so sick.
It's so cool.
It is the last half hour of the movie is one fight that just feels like it never ends in like in a way that I could.
not get enough of. Yes.
It's a movie that I thought was over
and I paused and I was like, I'm gonna,
I need to get up, I need to do something.
This is like five minutes left. I paused
there were 42 minutes left and I was like,
what the fuck? What is gonna happen?
And then it was just all fighting
in like the most badass way. Great ending.
Yep. Fun movie.
The next up is the death of Robin Hood
which Jeff, you're the only one who saw.
Tell us about mud men.
It's long.
It's gruesome.
it's a lot of body horror
it's about
gross dudes rolling around in the mud
and killing each other
in bloody ways
you don't like anybody in the film
also
it goes exactly where you think it's gonna go
there's no surprises to this film
you will figure it out in the first 10 minutes
and then you'll just slowly watch it happen
as people's jaws are ripped off for 90 minutes
oh god
two hours and 10 minutes or whatever
yeah
plan on seeing this, but your lack of enthusiasm.
It's like, I just
depressing, man. It's just fucking depressing.
Didn't make a lot of money.
Five million. Not nearly as
successful as the sheep detectives.
Sort of funny that Hugh Jackman is
in two movies this summer, both about the
death of the character that they're playing.
Yeah.
Makes Robin Hood
not a good guy, which is where you think
it's going to go and then it does. Yeah.
We got Jackass five.
I didn't even see this.
I saw twice.
So interesting.
Wow.
I'm so excited to talk about this with you, Jeff.
Yeah, I made Jeff watch it again.
Can't.
Can't have to make me.
I was excited to do it.
Can't believe it did as poorly as it did.
But what do you want to talk about it?
What do you want to say?
I think it's interesting because, like,
to mean, this is by far the weakest of the movies.
But in a way that, like, I think is justifiable.
100%.
And understandable.
And I think it's such a,
interesting
um
display of how
I think there is a unique
disconnect between the people that like the thing
the most and the people that make the thing
and a way that this movie
is really presented as hey get your friends together
go see this in a group
setting and I imagine that it's fun
and for them reflective
but as somebody who loves jackass
they are just sort of like
replaying moments from other movies
without a lot of additional contacts provided to them
that are supposed to be like,
oh man,
this happened like 20 years ago,
isn't it crazy?
Like,
you haven't seen this in a while
and it's like,
no,
I've watched this about 18 times
between what it came out.
I watched this four months ago.
I feel like I watched,
I watched each movie less than the last.
So for me,
I actually enjoyed watching
so many clips from Jackass 3
and Jackass Forever.
But yeah,
I don't think any of the new stuff was memorable.
But it was cute.
It was a cute.
as a cute ending.
Yeah, when I went into it,
what I expected it would be
is the jackass guy's going,
hey, this era is over.
And I think that that's more than anything
what that movie signaled.
And the success of the film,
I think, probably bears truth to it.
But I think they're saying, like,
we're old, we're not,
we can't continue this anymore.
The people we tried to pass the torch to
for whatever reason,
that didn't catch on.
This is our last opportunity
to kind of go out.
with, I don't know, a little bit of fanfare
and give everybody the opportunity
that loved this kind of schick, this dumb thing.
Grab all your friends, go to the movies one last time,
let's all sit at the movie theater
and eat some popcorn and relive our favorite moments
from Jackass.
And we'll see some new ones that are fun, right?
Like, nothing was amazing.
There weren't, nobody got, you know,
there wasn't anything that's going to blow you away
in the new one at all.
And there were some that were just weird.
There was this Marionette thing that just,
I feel like it must have been edited.
poorly because it made no fucking sense at any point
any of it. Although throwing a pineapple
at somebody suspended in the air in itself is
very funny.
There was just no connective tissue to it. But
the proctologist joke a bit was
funny. I thought
them taking the
stuff that makes you poop
to clean you out for a colonoscopy was funny.
Like there were definitely funny moments but to me it was more
just like a get together with your friends
and say goodbye to a time
and an era and that's what I expected from
and I thought it was really sweet.
I do wish
there were some more
heartfelt interviews
that tied things together.
I think Gavin kind of alluded
at that as well.
And I think the reality there
is probably that those dudes
aren't as close as you would want them to be
after 30 years of working together.
And it's probably hard to
muster up some of that sentimentality
outside of Johnny Knoxville
who cries every time
you put a camera on him
at this point in his life,
which I get totally.
I got the impression
that there was a bunch of segments
that had to be salvaged
through like kind of strange editing
and a ton of stuff
that just didn't work at all
and you just see like little glimpses of
and I also got the impression
that the old cast
don't particularly like any of the new cast
Yeah, I thought it was like a love letter
to that period of time
where something like that could succeed
Jackass doesn't exist in 2026 and it won't
like it's lost to that era
and I thought it was great for
what it was, and I didn't expect anything more from it than that. I don't want to see any of these
dudes get seriously hurt. They're already dealing with enough going...
That is... Enough damage going forward into the rest of their lives, you know?
There's like a two-factor thing of both on the reflective side. I was really surprised that
they didn't spend more time discussing or, like, highlighting Ryan Dunn in any way.
That was, like, they showed stuff with him, but it really felt like if you're going to really
be reflective on, like, the overall arc of it, they kind of brush past that act.
aspect of it, which was surprising to me.
And also just like, I completely agree.
I expected there to be more conversation and, like, reflection and the playing of these old bits.
And it was a lot of like, I, yeah, we did this.
And then they played the bit.
And also, because of their age, I really like a lot of the stunt work more than like the body,
like gross out stuff and jackass.
And it is like, because of their age, they lean so heavily into the gross out stuff.
for what all of the new bits are.
It's what they have left that they can accomplish, right?
Yes.
I will say the ending, I thought it was a clip I had never seen before.
It's the very last moment of jackass in the film.
It ends with Jeff Tremaine and Johnny Knoxville sitting on beds in a hotel room
and somebody is interviewing them about how the day went.
And I don't even know what shoot they're talking about.
But it is the last word spoken.
And Jeff Tremaine says something to the effect of,
it didn't go exactly how I wanted to, but it was all right.
And Johnny Knoxville looked at him and said,
it went exactly how I wanted it to.
And you just feel the weight of the way he,
the truth and the way he says it in that moment.
And you just realized that all of that was just,
it was all, I mean, there's a lot of people involved in it,
but it was all his thing, you know,
and you can feel it in that moment.
And that like he, it went exactly the way he,
you feel that it went the way he wanted it to.
And probably nobody else.
I feel like everything,
everything involving the
Knoxville bull hit
from the other movie
is such a interesting glimpse into
the way their minds work
and just the trade off of like
I'm literally going to trade some of my
health for a piece of content
and just like weighing it up
like they got the first hit
wasn't great
it was it would be amazing for anyone
on earth but it wasn't great for Knoxville
he has to do it again
it's railed
Jack has two moments to me
it's that moment when he and
when Tremaine's talking to him right there in the ring
and he's like it was good it wasn't great
and Knox was like
and then
and then when they see the
when they see the Claymore go off
and Bamar Garin starts crying
and he's like I'm fucking no
and Knox's like hey it's footage
it's footage we used to say that to each other
to hype each other up all the time
and Achieve a Hunter
when we were scared to do something
gather and I would say it's footage to each other and that's how we yeah that's how we'd get there
yeah it's it's a good movie like it's just like it's a it's a solid C plus but that's all I want
that's all I want that's all I wanted and I'm amazed people thought it was going to be something
different the power of that C plus is I think in the environment in which you see it in I watch it
by myself at home and so like it really didn't hit for me in any way but I completely
respect and understand why it is the way it is.
I'm also the exact same age as those dudes.
They got like three years on me.
So maybe I'm,
I don't know, I feel it differently
because I'm also, you know,
at the nadir of this thing as well.
I don't know.
Well, that's Jack has five.
A movie spiritually connected to it.
Same film, some might say.
The Odyssey.
I think you're the only one who saw this, Eric,
and you really liked it, I believe.
Yeah, I didn't think I was going to like
it at all. I thought it was going to be Christopher Nolan painting with like a big, big wide brush
where like all the details are kind of like fuzzy or whatever. Because of his big, his like big stroke
sort of painting and the way he tells a story, it was paced so well. And it just like, it flew by.
I had the worst time going to see it at an Alamo draft house, but I really liked the movie
a lot, way, way, way, way, way, way more than I thought I was going to. And I, I recommend
it. I think it's a really, it's like a really well-made movie that's really, it pays off in like a lot of
different ways. It's very good. I liked it a lot. So you're not too fussed about the technical aspect,
like the IMAX of it? I saw it in 70 mil, and which was a great issue that that caused when the
sound got fucked up and they couldn't rewind it, so I just missed the first five minutes of the movie.
Pretty cool. Pretty cool.
So it's cool that they shot it on IMAX or whatever.
I'm not a spectacle guy in that way.
I'm looking for a competently made movie
that is giving me these setups and payoffs
with story, with characters that are like doing their job throughout.
So the grandiose sort of nature of something like this
isn't necessarily appealing to me.
but I understand why it is appealing to most.
There's a really big movie here.
And there are times where I'm watching it going,
shit,
this is,
like the scope of what I'm looking at is like staggering.
But when it brings you back into like the smaller moments,
it continues to be a very well-made movie.
And I was,
I was really impressed.
After like,
after like Tenet and like Dark Night rises and that kind of stuff,
and just a lot of Christopher Nolan
I like, but then there are big swings where I go like,
oh, you're like really broadstroke in this bud.
And that's what I thought the Odyssey was going to be.
And it wasn't.
It was very, very good.
Oh, excellent.
I think, Gavin, I think you'd really like it.
I think that, I think there's a lot to really like in the movie.
And then I think you'll be really impressed with like the technical like grandeur of it all.
Yeah, I really want to see it.
Next on the list is the rivals of Amzaii King.
I didn't see it.
I don't think anyone saw it.
I really want to see it.
It's like a honey movie.
a movie about stealing honey with Matthew McConaughey and Kurt Russell.
I'm into it.
I think it's like a honey empires and crazy.
I'm excited to see it, but didn't see it.
Insidious the Bleeding World.
I've never seen any of the insidious movies.
People like that.
I think I've seen most of the insidious movies by accident.
Really?
On a plane?
Yeah, it's just a thing that like, it was like, oh, here's this.
And it just sort of like is on when you're like with a group of people and you're watching it
going, what?
is happening here.
And I think it's so weird
that these horror movies, I hate it.
I hate that horror movies are coming out
in April and August.
Keep it.
Keep it around September or October.
What are we doing here?
Sure.
Like, please, please, please, please,
put it around fucking Halloween time.
Those are my movies.
And now shall we move to Gavin's
21.
First place list.
Okay.
Well, we have to start with Horizon
in American
saga chapter two.
It's a big, big question mark.
Any minute now.
Any minute now.
That movie is multiple lawsuits at this point and I don't think will ever be released.
Does that movie, did that movie help me win the bonus stuff?
No.
It was not factored in because it didn't even, it doesn't even really exist.
It wasn't slated like it's just, we carry it over every year.
Your first real movie is Billy Elish, hit me hard and soft, the tour directed by James Cameron.
Two pretty pick names that
made 10 million.
It is, I watched it.
It is a concert movie.
It's what it is, but it did make me think about
is this the highest percentage of people
wearing bandanas and crying in a singular place
that has ever occurred in history, and I think it may.
A lot of people wearing bandanas and crying in the crowd.
Wow.
Probably the fun fact of the thing.
But next up is stop that train.
Movie I didn't see because it had a lot of AI usage.
I don't really know anything about it.
Has three explanation marks there.
It does.
Was that the RuPaul movie?
I think so.
I think it's a drag queen movie.
And then next on the list is a movie that didn't even, it is not a movie.
It's an event that didn't end up making it to movie theaters,
but I guess it was going to at one point.
UFC Freedom 250.
Gavin loves freedom.
He loves the UFC.
made zero dollars.
But it did happen.
That was an event that occurred.
Yep.
Fights were had.
What a time.
Wow.
I forgot how much I spent on Toy Story.
Damn.
And then you went all in on Toy Story,
which at the time,
we didn't know there'd be a Taylor Swift song
in front of it,
which I feel like boosts this up
at least like $50 billion.
Get a $50 million from Taylor Swift.
Oh, wow.
Love it.
I saw Toy Story 5.
I thought it was better than Toy Story 4.
Nick, what did you think of Toy Story 5?
I liked it. It was way better than four.
Obviously, anything after three seems kind of pointless, but I thought it was poignant about, you know, kids relying on tablets and friendships and things like that.
And it also made me feel another movie that made me feel.
And I was like, this is a cartoon. How dare you?
Are these like Andy's kids at this point?
No, it's like, um, related.
Yeah.
So at the end of three, he gave the toys to this girl named Bonnie.
And she's like, I remember that.
So she's the main character and is still young.
But she's going into like a certain grade and all the kids are like into tablets and are like in friend groups on their tablets.
And so the movie's really about while they're real friends or they artificial friendships created through online.
You know, it was a really interesting point.
A very poignant boomer take.
Yes, smart.
Very, very smart.
Can I ask do the toys make friends with the tablet?
Eventually, yes.
Pathetic.
That's fucking pathetic.
guys guys you're being oppressed yes but if we befriend our oppressor then who is truly on top
what the fuck are you talking about what the oppressor realizes they were wrong yeah they realized they were
wrong and they come around ridiculous hang them like musilini holy shit man it's a tablet you can't
yeah and hang it hang it no more the batteries that's what i'm saying get rid of it
it try it's interestingly bring back slinky dog do not do not soften against these oppressors
This is not the way this happens.
He is in it.
Good.
Slinky Dog can,
we can use slinky dog to hang the tablet.
It's interesting because I was the perfect age for these movies and like the timing
of the third one and how much it hits of its time for Andy to give the toys away.
And like the kind of emotional connection of that moment felt perfect.
And like it, they spent enough time between movies that like I aged kind of the same time that Andy did as a character.
And now we're in this sort of interesting era of Toy Story 5 where it feels like they've closed that loop of kids and are now starting a new loop for new kids.
I can't think of many franchises that have done that rotation.
Star Wars.
Oh, I guess, yeah, sure.
I haven't seen a lot of those.
I don't know how comparable it is, but like the concept of all the characters are the same.
Jar Jar Binks was for a different generation.
Oh, absolutely.
But this is like I think I think is interesting where it's all of the same characters that I can associate with.
with, but I guess they did that with the modern franchise.
So they just befriend Palpatine, Star War.
Everyone just befriend Palpatine, you're oppressor.
Yes, absolutely.
Yes, he learned the error of his ways.
Yes, perfect.
Vader did at the end.
Palpatine's middle name is LilyPad,
and we all just need to come to terms of that and become friends with him.
If you put Dog Ends on a Slinky,
doesn't it take away all the fun of putting a slinky down the stairs?
Yes, it's worthless.
Yeah.
I mean, you can just push him down.
I think it's more about pulling them around by the string.
So it's like a fun like doxen now.
Everybody's pushed dogs down the stairs.
I'm pulling dogs down the stairs, you fool.
Oh yeah, that's better.
Dogs in the stairs like girls like girls.
Lesbids.
I did see it.
What else I didn't see is Young Washington.
So a Cuban hunter coming out there earlier.
Did well though, huh?
$47 million worth of people want to see Young Washington.
I could not believe it.
I think this is like a weird AI.
That's some good value.
Yeah, you got incredible value on Young Washington.
That's why you got first place right there.
It is.
It's like a bonus star, the Young Washington star.
Yep, the Young Washington star.
And then we get a Spider-Man brand new day, which is the biggest movie that's ever
movie in a way that I can't comprehend.
It's incomprehensible.
Although, looking at the, I'm looking at the list of the top 10 gross of movies.
Spider-Man, No Way Home, the one from 2021 is number three.
Now number four, dethroned by Spider-Man.
That's insane.
Yeah, I just, I think it's so crazy that like it's making more than, you know,
the Marvel movies that they spent
like 17 movies building towards
that you could do 17
movies leading to one moment
or just a Spider-Man and to have
the same amount of financial impact
is just some spider-man. I've
also noticed that the top 10
contains six movies with
colons in the title.
Spider-Man brand new day.
Star Wars the Force Awakens,
Avengers Endgame. Spider-Man
No Way Home. Top Gun Maverick.
Avatar, the way.
of water and Avengers Infinity War, or colon.
So colon means money, is what you're saying.
Colon, colon's a money.
I need to sell my colon, that's what you're telling me.
And I think the, I'm sorry, I'll buy it, I'll buy it.
The ever spiraling value of the dollar and inflation are doing a lot of the heavy lifting
on my picks this year.
Oh, yeah.
For sure.
936 million.
But don't worry, because there's Spider-Man brand new day, followed by ice cream
man.
Way to go, dude.
We're really wanting to punch there.
just like that I didn't see it.
It's apparently terrible.
Once again, an AI movie,
Eli Roth kind of sucks.
No,
not Eli Roth.
Can you believe it?
Eli Roth sucks.
Is it a horror film?
A shocker.
Yes, it is a horror movie that is like,
look at how gory it is
and nothing else provided to it.
And we have Super Troopers 3,
which I,
when I was looking at the list last night,
was like, oh yeah,
that was a thing that existed and happened.
That's crazy.
I wonder if we're done.
No, I don't think anybody saw.
I don't think so.
I'm sure it's done.
Did it make more than two, I wonder?
I don't know.
I can look that up really quickly.
You're doing anything.
I'll look at it.
I never like Super Troopers as much as I wanted to.
Like people love that movie.
It's fine.
Oh, never mind.
Who did $32 million.
Oh, 13 million.
No.
Fifth.
You're right, man.
It did $32.
$3.
Okay.
32 million.
It's a little short of that.
But, yeah, I think they're done.
I would assume.
Yeah, I would imagine so.
Then we have teenage sex and death at Camp Miasma.
I haven't seen it, would like to see it.
I hear it's good.
I want to see that too.
I heard pretty good things.
I heard it's like a fun amount of camp
in a camp setting.
So that's, I didn't even think that's fun.
Perfect.
Then we have Paw Patrol of the Dino movie.
Holy shit.
51 million.
Did as well as Supergirl.
Wow.
You didn't see Paw Patrol?
Is your kid a Paw Patrol kid, Nick?
I didn't see it, but he did.
He ended up seeing it with my wife one day.
He is not a Paw Patrol kid.
I keep that show actively out of the house.
I see.
Oh, just like, he snuck out.
Just like the whole like defund the police thing for you?
Oh, yeah.
Obviously.
Archie's bill name is ACAB.
So.
No, I just,
uh, the song.
sucks, the show sucks.
You're more of a bluey household?
The impressive ideology sucks.
I love Bluey. He does not care
for Bluey. It's too fast.
It's too fast. It's like a nine minute
episode.
The paw's got its
the dog's got his paw on my neck.
But it's like 90 minutes, isn't it?
That's true. That's a good point.
Next movie is the magic faraway tree.
How's that?
It's an Andrew Garfield kids movie.
Is he Spider-Man again?
He's Spider-Man again, and he's got a far-away magical tree.
Wow.
Too far for the audience to get to, apparently.
Yeah, too magical.
Couldn't see it.
Next, we have thread and insidious tale movie that got pushed.
Bloody wasted three.
I wasted seven points here.
Yeah, sorry, man.
You sure did.
That's rough.
Cliffhanger is a hilarious one that got pushed,
where they announced the release date without securing, like,
the rights to be able to do it.
like they were still negotiating, I think,
to be able to, like,
distribute the movie.
That just got finalized, though,
so that movie will come out, but it
did not make it within the timeline.
And then the all-time
shelved movie to only come back
and make some money
is Coyote v. Acme, which I did not see,
but everybody I know who saw it loves it.
Yeah. I heard it was great.
Yeah. Yeah.
That's that. I'm excited to see it eventually.
But what I am not going to see,
is finding Emily
because I don't know anything about it.
I remember Gavin bought it
was rude that Gavin bought it over Jeff.
Yeah, that's right.
I know where she is.
I don't need to find her.
Not too many people found her.
I was just vacing up at this point,
wasn't I?
I was just going to eat shit.
You were, yeah, you just had the points
to do what you wanted.
And the last movie on the list
is idiots,
which I think is
an O'Shea Jackson Jr. movie?
It is.
O'Shea Jackson and
is it Dave Franco?
That sounds.
I think you're right.
I think it is, DeFranco, yeah.
Yeah, nobody saw it.
And that was a double heavy hitters.
Some movie really, congratulations, Gavin.
Way to go, Gavin.
One back to back years.
Hell yeah.
Congratulations, man.
Put that crown on, buddy.
Is there a way to sort the entire list by most valuable point, or is that it still
have to be done per person?
I think it'll be per person.
Maybe if you go all drafted movies?
I mean, I think it's got to be Spider-Man, doesn't it?
Yeah, it has to be for sure.
Spider-Man,
78.
Spider-Man.
Young Washington.
That's crazy
at the Young Washington
number two.
That's wild.
Wild.
That is crazy.
I guess before we wrap this,
can I just go through
my list of movies
least, like,
worst to best,
just in order really quickly?
Hit us with it.
I see 27.
Movies, 27, the breadwinner.
26, scary movie,
25, deep water.
24, Billy Elish movie.
23, Mortal Kombat 2.
22, the Mandalorian and Grogu.
21, in the grade.
20, I want your sex.
19 disclosure day.
18 Supergirl, 17, jackass best and last.
16 obsession.
15 Devil Wars Prada 2.
14, Toy Story 5.
13, the end of Oak Street.
11 backrooms.
10.
Masters of the universe.
9.
I love boosters.
8. The sheep detectives.
7. Pressure.
6 minions of monsters.
5 power ballad for the furious.
3. The invite.
2 is God is.
1. Hocam.
What was 12?
Nice.
What was 12?
The end of Oak Street.
What was 13?
Toy Story 5.
Okay.
Does that help?
Yeah, thank you.
Great.
Would anyone have been in a different position if worldwide was taken into account?
Oh, for sure.
Yeah, this would be dramatically different, I assume.
Worldwide totals.
Yeah, I'd be on top.
Eric would be on top.
That mutiny money was all overseas.
They love Jason Statham.
We were waiting for it.
That was my big play at the end.
That's why I took mutiny at the end
because I was like a bang,
jump in the first place
and then all of a sudden.
And then also animal farm,
big in China.
Guys,
that is the summer movie league.
Gavin wins.
So I think that means Gavin has to make
he gets to pick a movie that we watch.
Sure.
Yeah.
And I get first pick on Horizon next year.
You get first kids on Horizon next year.
I'm so excited.
There will be a different way
in which we select these movies next season.
I think it'll be a lot of fun.
I always enjoyed doing this.
Thank you guys so much for playing again this year.
Thank you so much.
much for everyone who contributes to this and like the Reddit, their Reddit breakdowns all the
time for people doing great stuff over there. This website is incredible. It makes it navigating it
and keeping up to date so easy. Thank you so much for fantastic. And let me say, great job,
Andrew. I think this was the best year yet. I agree. I think it finished really strong and you did a,
you were, did a fantastic job as the, uh, the moderator of this thing. I really appreciate. I really
appreciate it. People can say what they want. People can say what they want about the bonus stars,
but I'm for it.
Yeah, I enjoyed it.
I think next year
will be a fun wrinkle to it
that I can't wait to get to,
but until then,
thank you so much for watching.
