All right, we've got a special episode of Relatable today reacting to Trump State of the Union. There were some really good moments and something that I really disagreed with. All right, let's get into the State of the Union. Hey guys, welcome to Relatable. Happy Wednesday. Hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far. All right, today is a special episode, which is why I am recording from home, not my typical setup in the studio. We actually recorded today's episode yesterday, talked about something totally different. But after I watched the State of the Union last night, I was like, I've got to

Starting point is 00:02:02 respond to some of these key moments. I was extremely impressed if you just want to know my overall impression of Trump's speech, extremely impressed. And in fact, if you want to see some of my predictions of the State of the Union, the things he was going to say, the things that I hoped that he was going to say, you can watch the Blaze TV coverage. I was on for about an hour and a half pre-show, hoping that he talked about some of the things that he did talk about, but also I was hoping that he would mention a little bit more about Christianity, a little bit more about religious liberty, a little bit more about marriage. But overall, very strong, speech, historic speech, painted this really incredible picture of Western civilization and

Starting point is 00:02:44 America's place in it. It was unapologetically, America first, citizens first, and the way that he showed so strategically the juxtaposition of Democrats who were basically protesting, putting their own constituents and America's own citizens first, and the Republicans, who at the very least, just believe that America, should be prioritized in our policymaking. It was brilliant. It was absolutely brilliant. I didn't agree with everything that Trump said, though, and we'll get into some of that. But overall, I would give him 95%, which is an A rating. So let's talk about some of my favorite highlights. I mean, I could talk for two hours about all of the things that he discussed and that he pointed out.

Starting point is 00:03:31 but I just want to give you the top moments that I think that you need to consider, that you need to have in mind, especially as we're going into the midterms, but also as you're having conversations with your friends, especially those who are politically agnostic, those who hate Trump, have these nuggets in your mind when you're comparing the right and the left. Okay, so overall, I saw this CNN poll. 63% had a positive reaction to Trump's state of the union versus 36% negative. Now, I will say there's always these,

Starting point is 00:04:01 reaction polls from CNN or CBS over the years. And it's very biased towards whatever party is in office. And so it's mostly going to be Republicans watching Trump. It's mostly going to be Democrats watching Obama. So of course, most Republicans are going to be happy about Trump's state of the Union. But this is CNN. So maybe it is a little bit more accurate about what the country felt about Trump's speech overall, I found it to be extremely unifying, or it should have been unifying. The things that he was saying were so unapologetically patriotic and American that if you were against him on the things he said about, I don't know, genital mutilation of children or just patriotism, illegal immigration, then you really are on the fringes of American society.

Starting point is 00:04:55 Okay. So it was one hour and 48 minutes. That is a record. for a state of the union address. Not surprising at all. Typical Trump. He went off script a little bit. He stopped. Everyone applauds. Not everyone applauds, but a lot of people applause.

Starting point is 00:05:10 He's a showman. He likes to go off script. He likes to make jokes. He likes to make jabs. He likes to react to what the audience is doing. That's what makes him him. It was extremely upbeat. That was something that surprised me a little bit.

Starting point is 00:05:24 I said in the pre-show analysis that I thought, you know, I think we're going to start to see his age. a little bit, not just because it's Trump, but because anyone at this age doesn't have the same stamina that they did 10 years ago, 20 years ago. And he definitely is above where most people are his age. But look, it's late at night. He's going, going, going. This is a long speech. We actually didn't see that. I did not see his energy wane, but he started out so strong. In fact, he was basically yelling in patriotism in support of the U.S. hockey team that, of course, just won gold at the Olympics. Here's someone. People are asking me, please, please, please, Mr. President, we're

Starting point is 00:06:07 winning too much. We can't take it anymore. We're not used to winning in our country until you came along. We're just always losing, but now we're winning too much. And I say, no, no, no, you're going to win again. You're going to win big. You're going to win bigger than ever. that point. To prove that point here with us tonight is a group of winners who just made the entire nation proud. The men's gold medal Olympic hockey team. Come on in. Okay. So for those of you who are just listening, let me tell you like exactly what is going on there. You might think, oh, all of those people sitting in the back, why weren't they standing up? Well, you can see them with their laptops. Those are staffers. Those are people who aren't

Starting point is 00:07:14 really participating. They're working for the Congress people or the senators that they're working for and they're not really supposed to necessarily be standing up. Now, you did see at the beginning of that clip before he announces the hockey players and he just says, America is winning. You don't see any Democrat stand up, which if I'm fair, I could understand why they wouldn't applaud that because he's basically making fun of them. Like he's basically making fun of people who he would call losers. And that has always been Trump's play, by the way. This is not different for him. He has always, his pitch has always been, we've been losing for a really long time and we should probably win.

Starting point is 00:07:54 And he believes that he is the champion of that. And I think that he has been in a lot of ways. Now, he did. We'll just get straight into this. He did talk about lowering the cost of IVF and also taxpayer funded IVF. So he talked about his new website, Trump RX, to lower prescriptive, drugs. Trump also highlighted the first customer, Catherine Rainer, who used the site for IVF-related drugs, which obviously I'm not excited about. I'll explain that in a minute. Let's place out three. And here tonight is the very first customer ever to get that big discount, and it is big, Catherine Rainer. For five years, she and her husband have struggled with infertility, and they turned to IVF. One drug has been costing Catherine $4,000 to purchase. But a few weeks ago,

Starting point is 00:08:50 she logged onto the Trump RX website and got that same drug that cost $4,000, got it for under $500, a reduction of much more, actually, than $3,500. Catherine, we are all praying for you, and you're going to be a great mom. Look, I think that Trump's heart is in the right place here. He probably has not grappled with the ethics of IVF. The vast majority of people, Christians and non-Christians, have not grappled with the ethics of IVF. And so he's thinking more babies, the better. And it's so hard for someone to struggle with infertility, which, of course, we should have

Starting point is 00:09:32 compassion for the struggle of not being able to have a child. And we should handle those people with gentleness and understand. and we want married couples, moms and dads or husbands and wives, rather, who want to have kids to be able to have kids. But the problem with in vitro fertilization is that it's not good for the woman's body and it almost always creates embryos that are eugenically tested in a lab and then discarded, or they're indefinitely frozen. We have over a million embryos on ice right now that have been abandoned that might be adopted one day by strangers, and that's a more redemptive option. However, there's also going to be these frozen embryos that are just thrown in the trash.

Starting point is 00:10:18 And as you guys know, it's possible when you go through IVF to choose the gender that you want to give birth to, it's possible to get them tested for abnormalities like Down syndrome, discard the ones that are not graded highly enough. And I know you might say, well, it's possible to do IVF without those things. And it is possible, but it is extremely rare. And if our tax dollars are going toward that, we are just exacerbating the problem. Any time you take sex and procreation, you separate those things, they're going to be ethical issues.

Starting point is 00:11:00 Like the only way to be able to procreate without any. ethical quandaries whatsoever is within the context of marriage between one man and one woman through sex. Adoption is a beautifully redemptive option, but surrogacy, egg selling, sperm selling, IVF, which basically asks the child to sacrifice its own well-being, its own health, in some cases, its own life on behalf of adult desires, that is disordered. We are not going to become a godlier in more ordered society by going that direction. I understand why someone like Trump wouldn't really get that. It's been like the Catholic Church and a sliver of Protestants who have understood that.

Starting point is 00:11:47 But those of us who do know that life inside the womb at the earliest stages matters just as much as every other life, no matter the age, no matter the size, no matter the level of sentience, we have to be the ones to speak up and say no. And so that was the one part of the speech. that I can think of that I really did not agree with. I'm not going to celebrate that. And in fact, if Congress is trying to pass a law that would have us fund IVF, like I will be calling my representatives, my senators,

Starting point is 00:12:19 and I will be encouraging you to do the same because I don't want to fund more slaughter of babies. More embryos, unborn lives are killed through the IVF industry than through the abortion industry every year. That really matters. All right. Now moving on to some things that I really did agree with. And that was his absolute condemnation of illegal immigration. And I believe at the very beginning of this segment,

Starting point is 00:12:46 he said something amazing that like, gosh, I don't remember exactly what he said, but basically that we're not going to have a single illegal alien crossing over our border. We are going to make it as tough as possible. We have. We really have secured the border so much more strongly than we did under the Biden administration, which has helped so much. He highlighted Delilah. She's a young girl who survived a horrific car crash that was caused by an illegal alien. And thank God, she did survive. I know of another little girl in South Carolina who was three years old. Her family was leaving church. They were hit by a drunk driver who is an illegal alien who should have been deported, who shouldn't have been there in the first place. And she died. And there are too many people who should

Starting point is 00:13:29 still be here today if our border had been secure. Every single life that has, is lost because of an illegal alien was a policy choice. Okay, that's different than the random murder of someone who doesn't have a criminal background. Every crime committed by an illegal alien is preventable. So in light of that, and to honor this sweet little girl, he announced something called Delilah's law. Here's stop for. Many of not most illegal aliens do not speak English and cannot read even the most basic road signs as to direction speed, danger, or location. That's why tonight I'm calling on Congress to pass what we will call the Delilah law, barring any state from granting commercial driver's licenses to illegal aliens. You've got no Democrats standing up and applauding

Starting point is 00:14:29 that. That would have been a common sense position even under Obama. Certainly under his first term, that would have been something that Biden would have supported. That would have been something that Hillary Clinton would have supported. If you've read my book and specifically the chapter on immigration, I go through all of the Democrat quotes over the past or, yeah, the past 20 or so years against illegal immigration. And you'll note that it really wasn't until 2015 that Democrats shifted on immigration. Republicans have not. Democrats shifted on immigration to the left, really in just opposition to Trump, which is such a superficial and dumb reason to change on something that is so important.

Starting point is 00:15:08 This is a common sense position. They shouldn't have a driver's license. Unfortunately, that doesn't prevent illegal immigrants from driving. But it creates another hurdle. And it creates another reason for them if they are pulled over to be in trouble with the law and then be out of here. And so we want that. We want it to be as difficult as possible to be an illegal alien in this country.

Starting point is 00:15:34 Right? Like that should be obvious. And you might see that as cruel. I see that as orderly. I see that as loving my neighbor. I see that as preventing another Lake and Riley, preventing another Delilah, protecting the vulnerable populations that are disproportionately targeted

Starting point is 00:15:52 or harmed by people who should not be here in the first place. And by the way, I just want to be really clear about this. I don't believe in just deporting illegal aliens after they've committed crimes. Like, why would I want to wait? until another Delilah happens. Why would I want to wait until another Jocelyn Nungry happens?

Starting point is 00:16:12 No, I believe that citizenship is a thing. Sovereignty matters. And so I believe that every single illegal alien, no matter what your background is, should be deported absolutely. And again, that used to be something that was common sense, but now it is strictly partisan. Here is Trump continuing on what he calls a border invasion, SOP5.

Starting point is 00:16:35 We can never forget that. many in this room not only allowed the border invasion to happen before I got involved, but indeed they would do it all over again if they ever had the chance. If they ever got elected, they would open up those borders to some of the worst criminals anywhere in the world. The only thing standing between Americans and a wide open border right now is President Donald J. Trump and our great Republican patriots in Congress. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah. I mean, he's absolutely right on that. And gosh, again, he has been consistent on this since 2015.

Starting point is 00:17:16 And while I think that ICE and Trump's policies have had a tough time in the media and have had a tough time with messaging, I just want to emphasize, again, the importance of PR. People get mad at me when I talk about this, both on the right and the left. I put out a post a couple weeks ago saying, you know, when everything was happening in Minneapolis, we need to be able to show the DHS and ICE, Trump, they need to be able to show the human side of illegal immigration, like the human lives that are affected. People like little Delilah. We need to be telling those stories. We need to show women in particular who are targeted by that toxic empathy. We need to show them that like these people deserve your compassion to.

Starting point is 00:18:05 These people are the true victims of this. And it's not just a compassion. war. It's not just an emotion war. That's another thing I make really clear and toxic empathy. At the end of the day, it's about what's true, what's right, what's good, but we can't be led in just one progressive direction by our empathy and forget about the victims of illegal immigration. And some people got mad at me when I said that. They said, no, we just need to roll tanks in Minneapolis. It doesn't care. Who cares about optics? Who cares about PR? Well, if you care about policy, you have to care about PR. In this country, it matters what the voters think about things. And if you care about what the voters think about things, which you should, if you want the right people elected to enact the

Starting point is 00:18:51 right policy that does the right thing, then you first have to care about the messaging. You have to be able to convince people that this is the right way to go. And you can do that through logic. You can do that through lots of different means of persuasion, but we shouldn't discount the heart. We shouldn't discount the compassionate side of it. The difference, though, between good compassion and what I call toxic empathy is that good compassion should lead you closer to truth, should lead you closer to order to good policy instead of destructive, bad, stupid policy, like open borders. Okay. So Trump says that the first duty is to protect Americans. And let's see, I think this is the one where he says, like, if you believe this, if you believe that it is the first

Starting point is 00:19:38 duty to protect Americans and not illegal aliens, please stand up and watch what happens, SOT Six. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens. Okay, again, basic common sense. Of course, we put Americans first. Like, they're not even afraid of it. And that was such a beautiful moment.

Starting point is 00:20:36 I bet that was Stephen Miller's idea to just basically hold their feet to the fire. Give us all a visual. Like, let's do some stacking here. Let's give an incredible speech. Let's show people in the moment that Democrats will not stand for prioritizing Americans over people who are not citizens, who are not from this country, who don't have a stake in this country. But also, like, let's get some good B-roll for future campaign videos.

Starting point is 00:21:06 I mean, that is perfect going into the midterms. And they're just saying it. Now, unfortunately, I want to be realistic about this. There are people in the world, unfortunately, especially Christians who have this completely muddled mentality about America first, that it's wrong to put America first. It's wrong to care about citizenship. It's wrong to put citizens first because, oh, our kingdom is not of this world. And, you know, God doesn't love one group of people more than another.

Starting point is 00:21:32 And, you know, we're united in Christ and all of this stuff that. spiritually is that actually has nothing to do with how the nation state is run. Yes, that is true. Our citizenship is Christians is in heaven. Yes, of course, we are united with people around the world who share our faith and that does transcend borders and earthly citizenship. That doesn't mean the earthly citizenship doesn't matter because you're basically saying that nations shouldn't exist, that borders shouldn't exist, that laws shouldn't exist, that anyone should just be able to go anywhere and it will be fine. Well, that creates chaos. You know who the author of Satan is the author of chaos. God created nations. He created governments. He created laws.

Starting point is 00:22:16 And people so often cite the Old Testament by saying, oh, you shouldn't oppress the sojourner. Well, you shouldn't oppress the sojourner. But Israel also didn't tolerate illegal immigration. If you were a sojourner, if you were someone outside of Israel who went into ancient Israel and you wanted to live among them, you had to abide by all of their laws. There was one law for the foreigner in one law for the Israelite. You had to be circumcised. You had to follow all the laws and homosexuality. You had to follow all of the cleansing laws, all of the ceremonial laws. So I'm not interested in applying all Old Testament law to America today. But if you liberals are who cite the Old Testament to try to inform what our immigration policy should be, like let's do

Starting point is 00:22:54 the whole kit and caboodle. Now we're talking. Now we can have a conversation of what that looks like. It's so interesting how liberals will have their own form of Christian nationalism. But at the same time, if we say, oh, yeah, we should put Americans first, just like Zimbabwe, we should put Zimbabweans first. That's some form of fascism. It's really crazy. It doesn't make any sense. Also, he talked about crime.

Starting point is 00:23:16 And this is something also that I really care about. If you see a theme and the things I care about, I really care about protecting a little guy. I really care about protecting vulnerable people. Irina Zerutska is one of those vulnerable people. She was a refugee. She was coming from Ukraine. She was living. She was working.

Starting point is 00:23:32 She was on public transit and Charlotte, North Carolina. This is actually a story that I talked about the day that Charlie was murdered. I was on Megan Kelly's show. We were crying about that. And then I heard the unimaginable and the day just got so much worse. And I really applaud Trump for not allowing the story to be completely eclipsed and remembering her, what happened to her when she was stabbed on the bus by this guy who had a long rapture. should have been in prison, should not have been free to kill her.

Starting point is 00:24:04 Everyone stood there and watched her die, and Trump honored her mom. It was a really sweet and a very sad moment, Sot 7. Mrs. Zaretska tonight, I promise you, we will ensure justice for your magnificent daughter, Irina. How do you not stand? How do you not stand? Yeah. I mean, honestly, that makes me want to cry.

Starting point is 00:24:35 There are actually so many things in that little video that makes me want to cry because you've got Erica Kirk, who was standing right next to her and comforting her. That's such a powerful moment. Actually, I think of the last post that Charlie posted on Axe was about Irene Zerutska, because he also was leading the charge and talking about these derelict DAs, these derelict judges who won't do their jobs, won't put people in jail because of the color of their skin. They want to meet racial quotas. They think social justice means being soft on crime and just allowing criminals to run wild. So there's not too many people in prison. And he was speaking out for justice for Irene, like so many people were. And then of course, he was killed so unjustly

Starting point is 00:25:18 the same day. So to have both of them together there and Erica, the widow, turning to comfort her was just such a moment. And I mean, all of us know who are moms, the worst possible nightmare scenario is something happening to your child. And so I just pray that her mom did not see that video. I saw that video of her bleeding out. It is so disturbing. I cannot imagine the pain of having that happen to your child and you not having been there to help.

Starting point is 00:25:50 And so good on President Trump for honoring her and her life and highlighting, again, the problem of crime when we are okay with social justice because, oh, we care so much about the criminal, so much about the accused that we forget. the vulnerable people that actually die by those policies. I've said for a long time social justice kills. Social justice kills. Soft on crime policies kill toxic empathy, which justify those policies. It kills people.

Starting point is 00:26:20 That's why it's so serious. And for the Democrats not to stand up for hurt, it should not be partisan. It shouldn't be partisan to put your country first. It shouldn't be partisan to say, hey, crime is bad and we should do what we can't stop that. And we don't have this particular clip because it just came to mind, but Trump touted this incredible statistic, which it's been fact check. CBS put out a quote saying, yeah, we fact to this and it's true. Trump said that murder in America is at a 125 year low. That's incredible. I mean, there could be so many factors for that. Could be just tough on crime policies across the

Starting point is 00:26:59 states. But on a federal level, it could be the deportation of illegal immigrants. And don't tell me, well, immigrants commit fewer crimes than citizens. First of all, we don't really know that's true. Illegal immigrants, by definition, are undocumented. So we don't really have a way to verify how many crimes they commit. And every single crime committed by an illegal immigrant is one too many. Yeah, we have homegrown citizen criminals here. We don't need to import more. We need to deport them all. And so I guarantee that that had something to do with this. Speaking of Erica Kirk and Charlie, Trump had a moment at the state of the union. Gosh, it just seems like so long since Charlie was murdered.

Starting point is 00:27:38 It's hard to even believe that this is the first day of the union since Charlie died. But he took a moment to honor Erica to call out political violence. And then he also tied this in with this resurgence of the Christian faith that we're seeing that Charlie played such a huge part of, Sot 2. So last year, Charlie was violently murdered by an assassin and martyred really, martyred for his, beliefs. His wonderful wife, Erica, is with us tonight. Erica, please stand. In Charlie's memory, we must all come together to reaffirm that America is one nation under God, and we must totally reject political violence of any kind. 100%. And now I don't know if the Democrats stood for that. Hopefully they were able to agree with that. Again, we're talking bare minimum. Now,

Starting point is 00:28:43 There is a camera person who deserves a raise. He deserves an award. I don't know if we have this moment where Donald Trump is talking about Somali pirates. And he's talking about the fraud that happened in Minnesota. And the camera guy pans to Ilhan Omar as soon as he says Somali pirates. Oh my goodness. I mean, she has allegedly committed a lot of fraud. So basically on the same moral level as Somali.

Starting point is 00:29:13 pirates. But she also yelled that Trump, she was extremely angry that Trump was talking about any of this. Trump talked about ending sanctuary cities like Minneapolis who are housing a lot of these fraudsters. And Omar didn't like it. Sot 9. The officials who blocked the removal of criminal aliens in many cases, drug lords, murderers all over our country. They're blocking the removal of these people. out of our country and you should be ashamed of yourself. Well, you should be ashamed of yourself if you advocate for those kind of policies. She's yelling there.

Starting point is 00:30:01 You have killed Americans. You have killed Americans. Okay. Like if we just want an even unfair conversation and we all think killing Americans is wrong, I can agree with that. I can reach across the aisle and say, yeah, killing Americans is wrong. Like even when an illegal alien does it right? Even when it's Charlie Kirk.

Starting point is 00:30:18 Because if I remember correctly, days after Charlie was murdered, you had Ilhan Omar calling him a racist bigot at some town hall meeting that she was leading at the time. So I'm not really convinced that the pro-abortion, pro-illegal immigration stomp on the grave of a martyred man, Ilhan Omar, is really that morally concerned about Americans dying. So yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I also just wanted to point out that Rashida Tili, part of the squad is right next to her. And she's got this little pin on. It says release the Epstein files, but Epstein is redacted,

Starting point is 00:30:58 which of course, yes, I think that all of the files should be released. I think victims should get justice, no matter what side of the aisle they might be on 100%. I just want to point out that Rashida Taleb and others like her did not care about the Epstein files until Donald Trump took office, which I think is really gross. I would actually think that it's more moral for you just to never care about it,

Starting point is 00:31:20 never talk about it, but for you to only care when you can use these people who are sex trafficked as political pawns, that's really, really ugly. Again, doesn't surprise me. It's not like I think that these women have moral limitations or moral limits. Now, really important topic that he touched on, which again, I think 85% at least of the country agrees on that we shouldn't tried to trans kits like we shouldn't be butchering their bodies, no chemical castration,

Starting point is 00:31:48 no puberty blockers, no double mastectomies. He highlighted this young woman. Her name is Sage Blair. She was a young girl who was pressured by school officials to socially transition to a boy, Sat 10. But surely we can all agree. No state can be allowed to rip children from their parents' arms and transition them to a new gender against the parents will. Who would believe that we been talking about. We must ban it and we must ban it immediately. Look, nobody stands up. These people are crazy. I'm telling you. They're crazy. Democrats are destroying our country, but we've stopped it just in the nick of time, didn't we have? Honestly, praise God. Praise God. And this is why when people send me Trump's

Starting point is 00:32:44 tweets or posts or he said this or he made this joke about the women's hockey team, I'm like, I don't care. I don't care because you've got one side of the aisle that won't applaud for the fact that we shouldn't be taking kids out of their parents' custody to be transition to the opposite sex. We shouldn't be pumping teenagers with cross-sex hormones and taking off their breasts and chemically castrating them. You've got one side of the aisle who can't say, yeah, I think we should put American citizens first, who can't even honor a refugee who was murdered by a longtime criminal. I mean, we've got good versus evil when it comes to policy here. Okay, so yeah, I'm going to have a lot of grace for Trump's foibles because I am thankful every single day that Kamala Harris isn't president and that we've got Republican conservative policy for the most part dominating the political conversation right now and helping our neighbors.

Starting point is 00:33:41 So I'm very thankful. I'm thankful overall for this speech. we have to keep representing as Christians what is good, right and true, representing those babies inside the womb. We can't let them be forgotten about just because they're hidden away, just because they're frozen, just because they're small, just because people on our political side of the aisle think it's no big deal.
