Hello, and welcome to Revolutions.
Special, special, special, the second revolutions fundraiser is open for business.
Now, I would say that this is the second annual Revolutions podcast fundraiser because it was supposed to be an annual thing.
But as it turns out last year, we had a baby and didn't really have time to do anything.
She's one year old now, by the way, and doing fantastic.
She's going as a mad scientist for Halloween.
It's adorable.
So anyway, Revolutionspodcastfundraiser.com is now back up and open for business.
And this year's fundraiser is going to last for one month, from October the 30th, 2016,
to November 30, 2016.
Which means that hopefully all orders will be in the mail by early December.
So if you want to do some Saturnalia shopping for that special someone,
your order should be under the tree on time.
But who are we kidding? Probably what's going to happen is you are going to go poke that special someone who is supposed to be doing Saturnalia shopping for you and tell them that Revolutions podcast fundraiser.com is open for business.
Nudge, nudge, and it's a whole new slate of products.
Nudge, nudge, and it's only going to be open until November 30th.
Nudge, nudge, nudge.
So first up, we have two new T-shirts available, both men's and women's cuts, and both are black.
The first features the totally ridiculously badass Haitian coat of arms, which if you've never seen it before, is going to knock your socks off.
You know that old far side cartoon, how nature tells you do not touch?
And it's like a cat hissing, a puffer fish all blown up, a rattlesnake rattling, and then the dude with a boot on his head holding a bazooka.
You know the one.
Anyway, the Haitian coat of arms is that.
It's how nature says do not touch.
and if you don't know what I mean, you'll soon see what I mean.
But as much as I love that shirt, I love the other one even more,
because it is the official T-shirt of the Patriotic Society for the Development of Agriculture and Livestock,
everyone's favorite Venezuelan Revolutionary Front Group.
The art is all original because there is no logo for the Patriotic Society,
and so I had Mrs. Revolutions design it.
Her name is Brandy Duncan, by the way, and when you see the shirt,
I think you will agree that she did,
awesome job. I'm in love with it. I'm in love with her. She did all the other stuff I'm about to talk
about too. And while I'm here, I may as well clear up that Mrs. The History of Rome and Mrs.
Revolutions, that's the same woman. She was just rebranded with the new show. I got her permission
to do it and everything. Anyway, two new shirts, the Haitian coat of arms, the patriotic society for
the development of agriculture and livestock. And just like last time, the shirts will be $35.
And remember, all the profits are going to make sure that this and only this is what I do for a living.
But this time, we also wanted to have some non-T-shirt merchandise.
So next, we have a slate of three, four-color screen prints, also designed by Mrs. Revolution's, and they will each be $40.
They feature stylized portraits of Tucson Louvichure, the Marquis de Lafayette, and Simone Bolivar,
each with a quote that captures the essence of.
of their revolutionary career. So Tucson's is, we have known how to face danger to obtain our liberty,
and we shall know how to brave death to maintain it. I mean, that sounds about right. Lafayette says the
quote, that in serving the cause of America, I am serving the interests of France, which,
yeah, that's pretty much Lafayette to a T. And then finally Belivar, which I'm sure you'll understand
why his quote captures him, even if we haven't gotten to the point where he says it yet.
it doesn't come till the very end right before he dies. He says, damn it, how will I ever get out of this labyrinth?
They're all 13 by 19, and if you click on some of the images in there, you can see some close-ups and see that the gold is nice, shiny, metallic, and the paper's super high-quality, heavy stock.
They don't even ship it in a tube. It ships flat, so the print doesn't get messed up.
I also have on hand a limited number of autograph prints. There's going to be 10 each, super limited edition.
10 each, and they are going to go for $250.
But hey, if you love the show, you want to support the show, and you want something special,
$250 will get you an autograph print.
There are only 10 of each, so don't just wait around, buy it while you can.
Finally, yes, there are five new episodes of the History of Rome,
appendices 1 through 5 of the history of Rome, to be exact.
Now, the topic was something that I've actually had to be.
in mind since I wrapped up the show originally, because I always wanted to talk more about the
sources and the historians that I used to write both the podcast and now the storm before the storm,
but when you're telling the story, when you're narrating the story, you never get a chance
to spend more than a few passing glimpses on the sources behind the story. Well, I just
brain dumped five episodes worth of material. Appendix 1 is a general survey of Roman
historiography covering all the old Latin and Greek historians, the historians that everything,
and I do mean everything out there, is based on. And I did not just limit myself to sources that
we still have. But I also talk about the sources we have lost, but no existed, because the
sources we do have were actually based on those earlier, but now lost works. It's all super
fascinating. Appendix 2 covers Cato the Elder, who, let's face it, I sorely neglected in the first
run of the history of Rome. Cato is such a pain in the ass. It's fantastic. Appendix
3 covers Polybius, who I think was probably the best historian of the bunch in terms of rigor,
quality, and commitment to critical analysis. And then, of course, he was an active participant
in many of the things that were going on in the middle of the second century BC.
Appendix 4 is on Solis, the bitter ex-partisan of Julius Caesar, who went into retirement
after Caesar's assassination and wrote some pretty scathing indictments of the Senate in his
Catalan conspiracy and Jugrithine War. And then finally, Appendix 5 is on Pliny the Elder,
whose natural history has never gone out of print and who wound up being the most famous victim
of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. I got to tell you, it was so, so much fun to be
doing the history of Rome again, and I really do hope you enjoy these.
The collection of appendices is going to be available here and only here at revolutions podcast fundraiser.com.
Each one runs about a half an hour, and you can get them for $5 a piece, or you can get all five for $20, which I just checked.
It's two hours and 47 minutes of new history of Rome material, and this is the only place you're going to get it.
Love revolutions.
Love the history of Rome.
Want to make sure this is what I do from now until the end of time.
spend the $20, get the appendices package, you're happy, I'm happy, I won't even bother you with
the whole, if everybody clicked that button, I'd never have to worry about money again.
Oh, well, I guess I just did. Sorry about that. Anyway, buy the package, you'll love it,
I promise. It's only 20 bucks. Okay, so that's the slate of what's available. Oh,
wait, I almost forgot. Pick a revolution, any revolution is still back up there. It's $25,000 if
you're interested. Seriously, call me. I'll do it.
Like last time, I'll be working with clockwise teas for both these shirts and the screen prints.
They do awesome work. They handled all the fulfillment for me last time and were fantastic to work with.
And then also like last time, I'll be placing the final order once the fundraiser window has closed.
That's November the 30th, 2016, because buying in quantity for this stuff is the only way it works.
So you place your order now, don't wait, get on it, go buy it.
but it's all going to start shipping after I place the order. So like I said, early December.
You'll get an email notification in everything, and hopefully it will all be there in time for Saturnalia.
Finally, I'll wrap this up by saying that just a couple of weeks ago, Hurricane Matthew ripped through the Caribbean and did some horrendous damage to Haiti.
We all saw it on the news, specifically, it ripped through the southern peninsula of Haiti, and that's the old South province.
That's where Andre Rigo made his base.
That's where Julian Raymond is from.
That's where Simone Belivar and his little band of revolutionary
Caudillos launched themselves back at Venezuela.
Now, I've been planning this fundraiser and the merchandise for it for a while now,
but I cannot in good conscious run a fundraiser prominently featuring Haitian revolutionary products
without peeling off some of the proceeds to go to Hurricane Relief.
Now, this is just going to be something I do on my side once the fundraiser is over
and all the final numbers are in.
So I can't say for sure exactly what percentage or dollar amount,
and I'm still trying to figure out the best place to send the money to have the maximum impact.
But just know that when this is over, I'll be peeling off what I hope is a generous portion of the proceeds
and directing it somehow, some way, towards Haitian hurricane relief.
But that's all going to be on my end, and I'll just keep you updated when it happens.
Okay.
So I think that's all to say.
go buy stuff. For the love of God, go buy stuff right now. The store is open. Revolutionspodcastfundraiser.com. You can go there right now. Revolutionspodcastfundraiser.com. That again, Revolutionspodcastfundraiser.com.
