Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, everybody, what's going on? Rob Sestrino, back in the studio for our exit interview today, and I just got back from a whirlwind trip to San Francisco, where we had the all-time record-setting crowd for an RHAP live show, about 1,100 people. We're with us in San Francisco to watch this episode where we saw Nate Moore voted out of the game and he's going to join us for our exit interview. We're recording this on Friday that Nate is on location
Starting point is 00:00:44 shooting maybe a future blockbuster film. Who knows? But Nate is on location and it's a little bit of a desolate location. And so the internet connectivity is going to be a little bit subpar. And so I do apologize about that. Nate and I both did our best to bring you this conversation. So please forgive us for the audio not being as pristine as it typically is here on the exit interview. But we appreciate Nate making the effort. And so here is my conversation with Nate. Hey, Nate, what's going on? Rob Sisternino here for RHAP. Very sad to see you go out from the game.
Starting point is 00:01:25 I thought you were in such a good spot and excited to get the check. to talk to you today. So let me just ask you, did you feel like that night that the vibe was off? A little bit, a little bit. We knew, by we, I mean, me, Rizzo, Sophie, and Savannah knew there was a chance that Sage and Joanne were not with us. We assumed Alex was not going to vote for us. He was being a little cagey all day, but we figured that it made more sense to them to stick with a six than a seven, especially when that seven was made up of three different groups of people, right? Like Alex and four old Hina and that, like it just didn't seem to make sense. But we also knew that Shannon, I think unintentionally had sort of burned us. So we were all
Starting point is 00:02:12 day trying to do damage control between Sage and Juan to get him back on side. I thought we were going to skate through and obviously we did not. But something was up. You know, you see Juan at that tribal and he's a little bit more outspoken than he usually is and you go, something's up. How did you feel like that Shannon inadvertently burned you guys? So when we were at Old Hina, what was interesting is because we never went to tribal, those tribal lines were never solidified. And as much as I think Sage and Jouan felt like they may not have been super integrated into the group, they didn't know for sure there was a Corpore Alliance.
Starting point is 00:02:46 And I think you can see it even after the first tribe swap, that Jouan still felt like he was with Savannah Rizzo and I. What we didn't know was, A, how fractured Sage and Shannon's alliance became when they went to Tehina, and that I've since learned that Shannon told Joanne and Sage that they were indeed on the bottom at Uli. And so when the merge happened, we realized pretty quickly because I had a conversation with Sage that Shannon maybe told more than she needed to. We knew we had a lot of repair to do. We just thought we had done the repair by the time we got to tribal, and it turned out we hadn't.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Nate, it seemed like that your story was about somebody who was doing their best to try to fit in with this younger generation of survivor players. Did that feel like that's what your story was while you were out on the island? Yes. Yes. And I liked, let me say this, like everybody on Uli, they're all great people. When I got off the boat and we talked about who we were in our ages, I realized the next oldest person was Savannah, who's 16 years. younger than me. Nobody was married. Nobody had kids. Nobody had a career in the way you think about
Starting point is 00:03:58 careers. Obviously, I didn't say what I did. But I realized there were just not a lot of touchstones that were going to be similar. I also am not online. Like, I don't have TikTok. I don't have any of that. So a lot of just the things that, you know, you have to talk about something during the day, I just didn't have those same touch points. And again, they didn't isolate me. They weren't dicks about it. I was just like, oh, I don't really have a partner in crime, and I felt it. Yeah. But it seemed like, at least to us, that you navigated that particularly well. Did you feel that while you were out there? I did. And I tried my best to hold my tongue if I was like, this is ridiculous. I just go, eh, not for now. And I was able to find
Starting point is 00:04:39 touch points individually. Like, Rizzo and I love basketball. That's great. I can talk about basketball all day. Savannah and I had very similar upbringings to some extent. Even Shannon and I really got on, it was just when there are big group conversations about things literally like that are on TikTok that I've never seen, there's a lot of me, probably footage of me going, I'll go get the firewood because I don't have anything to add. I've just sort of lost. And I don't want to seem like the grumpy guy. So maybe I'll just be the caretaker, the provider, you know. The way that this all unfolded, it seemed like that there's not much that you could have done differently. But do you see something that you think about that like, oh, I'm
Starting point is 00:05:21 I wish I would have handled this differently. There are two things that come to mind, and I'm not sure would have changed it. The two things would come to mind. One, I wonder if we would have targed Dina instead of Stephen if Sage and Joanne think differently. Because, again, I didn't realize how tight, and you saw in the episode,
Starting point is 00:05:41 how quickly they had bonded with Stephen specifically. They, Joaquin never, Christina, and in fact, which is not in the show, So Joanne called Uncle Jeff first, but Christina said it at every mat, at every challenge. And Joanne kind of was pissed at her just from a bar. He was like, I hate that Christina. She's taking my bit. So I think if we would have just been like, hey, Christina and not the guy I didn't know
Starting point is 00:06:04 you had a man crush on, that might have been different. The other thing that is not shown is I went to MC post merge and said we should be, we should team up because I knew and she knew we'd both be the physical threats. And I told her she didn't have to play her idol, although she did. did. And I was honest with her up to the point of who we're voting for. And I told her we were voting for Christina because I didn't want her to put player idol for Steve if in case, you know, she decided she wasn't with me. The problem was she believed that I wanted to work with her until I had to lie to her. And I didn't know that Sage and Joanne had already told them we
Starting point is 00:06:41 were voting for Stephen. So then she thought my entire spiel was a lot. The truth was out for them the heartbeat, but because I couldn't be completely honest with her, she didn't trust me. And so I think if I would have told her, maybe, if I would have told her Stephen, if it was Stephen, or if I would have told Sage and Joanne, it's Christina, maybe we have a shot to make it just through that vote. Because I knew if we could just get through that, that pinch point, we had a chance to go to final six. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Nate, did you get any interesting reactions from your castmates when they found out about your secret identity? and not just that you're a stay-at-home dad. I mean, I think people were surprised. You know, for as much as they'd talked about Marvel movies, which they'd talked about it a lot. Even Joanne and Rizzo would talk about it at Uli. You know, at some point, you know, Rob, like the game's over.
Starting point is 00:07:37 And it's sort of like, oh, that's cool. But I think it would have been cooler if I would have done it in the game, to be quite honest, because everybody's so shell-shocked from being out of the game anyway. Any new information is not that cool. So I think people were surprised, but I don't think it didn't blow their hair back in a cool way. Yeah. Have you had any second thoughts about what might have been different if you would have told them in the game?
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yes, totally. You know, I didn't tell them because I did not think anybody would give me a million dollars. Yeah. But, as you know, you've got to get to the end. And like, there is a chance that if I told them that up front, we do have more touch points and we have more in common. And part of why I also think I struggled to connect with people is I was holding such a big part of my life back. I just wasn't talking about literally hours and months
Starting point is 00:08:26 and years that I had spent in the last 20 years of what I was doing. So I didn't have great stories because a lot of my great stories are on set or doing these great movies. And so I do think it was a little bit of shooting myself in the foot by not being honest. You know, again, who knows? Maybe they target me first.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I don't know, but I do think about it for sure. Nate, who was your tightest ally while you were out there? That's a great question. I think it was Rizzo or Savannah. That's the problem, is I don't think I had like a number one. And I think ultimately Rizzo and Savannah were each other's tightest ally. And I certainly felt that. And when we merged the first time and met Sophie, who I also love,
Starting point is 00:09:12 they became a really cool triangle. of again, similar age, a similar liked kind of people. And I think they all like me and we're all, you know, we're good. But I didn't have that like tight and tight partner who was like, hey, we'll never vote for each other. I wouldn't have voted for those people, but it wasn't, it was, I needed a, I needed a partner in crime, to be quite honest. Did the relationship that you seemingly made with MC when you went on the journey,
Starting point is 00:09:41 did you feel like that that had paid any dividends once you got to the murder? merge? Not as much as I wanted it to. I really did, partially because she's such a great competitor, I wanted to work with MC really bad. And when I went on that journey that I did not want to go on, but I went on it to keep Jason from going, when I saw her in the next part, the good news is I can meet this person who I've wanted to work with and try to build a bond. And I tried to get her to talk that entire challenge because I was like, this is the reason I'm here. but when we merged it was again you know this like there's so many people having so many conversations and so much has happened very condensed period of time it wasn't well i didn't make
Starting point is 00:10:21 the time to pull her aside enough and really bond and she which i didn't know at the time was preoccupied with the advantage and getting her vote back and so she and she was very standoffish again in a way that prevented us from really bonding if we had another night do i think I could have done more, maybe. I suppose I say, you did a great job of representing for you and I are, I'm pretty close to the same age, and I just want to say you did a great job from my perspective while you were out there. I appreciate it, man.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Yeah. It was, again, I'm lucky I got to play and I don't regret it. How was the reaction from your kids? They couldn't bring themselves to watch after the third episode because it was too stressful, even though they knew I was fine. They didn't say it was cringe, though, right? They didn't say it was cringe. They're not old enough.
Starting point is 00:11:13 My oldest is age. She doesn't know what cringes yet. Okay. You're blessed. Yes. Exactly. All right. Well, Nate, thank you for making some time while you're on location to talk to us.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Really appreciate it and all the best outside survivor, okay? Appreciate it, man. Thanks, Rob. Thanks, Nate. Bye. All right, everybody, there you have it. There's Nate. Appreciate him making the time to, let's, let's,
Starting point is 00:11:39 Listen, anybody who is like a prominent person outside of Survivor, I always appreciate when they come on and don't just blow off the exit interview. Say, what the hell do I need this? I went to go, I did the thing I wanted to do. I went to go play Survivor. What the hell do I need to talk to the press about my experience? So I appreciate Nate, especially while he's on the road making the time to talk about this. All right.

All right, we're back with my beloved segment this week in Survivor History, still riding high after last week's perfect game. And here I am back with the wonderful Jordan Kalish. Yo, Rob.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Jonti Jordan Kalish, they call him. The King of Johns. They have at some point called me that. And I am back, baby. You call him 118 because he's so jaunty. So, Rob, I wonder what, like, the David Wells and, like, David Cohn and Don Larson's of the world and the Domingo Hermanns of the world have felt like a week after their perfect game.
Starting point is 00:14:16 And that's where, that's the category that you were in right now. You're one of the greats. Yep. All right. So we are ready to go. And we've got a good one here to take on. Of course, you know him from. patron mafia.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Here he is. Ryan Cassidy. Ryan, how are you? Rock and Rob. I'm sledding, man. I'm looking to get my fellow patrons out of the dog house this week, man. I mean, I just want to get a good at bat,
Starting point is 00:14:43 you know, quality at bats, get on base, maybe some RBIs. We'll see, man. But I'm a locker room guy. Yeah, I want to pick us up this week. All right. I'm here to bring in my four and two record on the season into
Starting point is 00:14:57 Twitch. and let's see how it goes. Ryan, anything you want the patrons to know about you? Yeah, no. I mean, I'm a lover of people. It was lovely to see everybody at the live show up in New York City. My fellow RHAP reality mafia competitors as well. I got my lucky hat on here. It's here for longevity and it's here to help me win. So let's do this. Ryan brings a lot of energy, good vibes, but we'll see if he brings the heat in terms of the trivia. Is he brains or is he Braun? We'll see. What do you think about my idea
Starting point is 00:15:33 about that the mystery box should be worth three points? I subscribe to it. I mean, I think because when you get the category I think that's an off-season move. I think so. I think so, too. It's like you don't, you don't ban the tush push in the middle of the season. I think when we go
Starting point is 00:15:47 to the rules, the rules committee or the, uh, maybe the podcast Supreme Court. I heard that push got solved, Ryan. Did Brian I mean, yeah, figure out the answer to the tush push? Yeah. No, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I mean, just score touchdowns and get first downs. That's the, that's the only answer to that question. All right. Jordan, what's on the list for today? All right. I'm the docket today for Ryan and Rob. We have Survivor Thailand. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:17 We have Fiji Heroes versus Villains, 47, 48, and it's back. The mystery box. Ryan, where are we going first? The mystery box? Not even any sort of category of the mystery box. Just the mystery box. By the way, also, if you're
Starting point is 00:16:37 just listening to the podcast and you're not watching the video, Ryan looks visibly shook now that he's heard the categories. No, this is visibly nervous now. No, no, no. This is hilarious, Rob, because look, I'm I'm choking up on the bat now. I'm
Starting point is 00:16:55 digging my heels into the box. So let's start off, Kalish, uh, give me, give me 47. All right, digging your heels in the box, but not going with the mystery box. Survivor 40 several on week several, who was voted out at the tribal in which Rachel saved herself by playing the safety without power. Oh, uh, Rachel was there with all of the tucous. Thanks to Saul, she gets to skidaddle out of the tribal council and, uh, the beloved Hawaiian herself, Tiana. went home. Beloved Tiana. I'm a fan.
Starting point is 00:17:28 I'm a fan. Yes. I believe that Sage's celebrity crush from Dalton Ross's post from last week. And also, all the two coups were there. Well, that is a two coup pointer for Ryan. Two points starting on a strong note here. Ryan, can I ask you, who is your survivor crush? Oh, geez, Louise.
Starting point is 00:17:51 If I'm being like super duper honest, probably Chelsea. from one world. Chelsea one world. Okay. Chelsea Meisner. I'm not sure if that's still her last name. Jordan Kalish, has anybody ever put you on the spot for your survivor crush?
Starting point is 00:18:04 I definitely have been asked this question. I think I've given different answers to this question. You know, I've got to go. Over the years, you that I got to go Victoria came out of it, you said. Yeah, Victoria, good pick, right? Yeah. And I think Victoria could have been the winner of her season
Starting point is 00:18:20 if there wasn't some crazy edge of extinction type BS. So I think, I think that's a good pick. Rob, what season are we going to? Okay. Let's go 48. All right. Survivor 48, finishing off the new era. Who blocked Say's vote at the tribal in which she was voted out?
Starting point is 00:18:40 What? I believe it was freaking Mitch, right? Freaking Mitch is freaking correct. Rob, the, the PE teacher, extraordinary. blocked say's vote she uh she kind of went out with the with the whimper after a great a couple episodes well i mean not not her fault i mean i think it's it it it was on the uh the bs split tribal not i'm not blaming her uh but she had such a great uh start to the season and doesn't even get to make the jury um Mitch blocks the vote he didn't even need to do it but uh might as well so it is
Starting point is 00:19:15 two to two and Ryan what season are we going to next uh let's go to one of the greatest seasons of all time take me to 20 okay take you to 20 I thought you were going to pull David Bloomberg and go to Thailand is one of the greatest seasons of all time. That's a fine spot for me. All right. Coach famously threw his vote at the Boston Rob boot in order to fulfill his promise that he wouldn't vote against Rob,
Starting point is 00:19:38 but also effectively side with Russell. Who did he vote for leading to Rob calling him a little man? Oh, you little man, coach. Oh, goodness gracious. This is a tough one. was it i don't think it was a big power player no offense a big character nonetheless i'm gonna say do i go for the the gusto here do i go for the go for the multiple choice i'm already not getting a perfect game today that's right we're doing the rebut we're doing the rebus today it's back
Starting point is 00:20:15 baby but yeah let me let me go for the multiple choice please all right multiple choice was it a Courtney B Danielle C. Parvity D. Sandra. Okay. Okay. My original gut instinct was going to Courtney 8th. So I'm going to go, A, Courtney 8's. Your gut led you in the right direction. Ryan, you get a point. So you have a three to two lead. Coach is a little man for voting, voting for Courtney there. I'm not choosing a side. So three to two. Rob, next category goes to you. hmm it's trying to think this through uh i'm going to end up with two of these out of these last three i'm trying to think of uh played out of which ones do i want um okay give me uh give me the mystery box all right into the box opening it up let's see what's inside
Starting point is 00:21:13 what is the only season in survivor history that featured in a community challenge based on players' recollection of details present during a merge feast ceremony. I believe the aforementioned player from the last question was there. I believe this was the one only time was in Survivor China. So this is Courtney Yates' first season, Survivor China. Rob, you might have done well on this challenge because you did remember that China is the season that had the Feast Recollection Festival. So Rob, you get you get two points there.
Starting point is 00:21:52 You take a four to three lead. Good job. Ryan, this is an important question for you. You can take the lead back with a two-pointer or you could tie it up with a one-pointer. Big decision here. We go to Thailand or Fiji. Yeah, these are both blind spots for me. So this is no point.
Starting point is 00:22:12 But thank God we're at a dog house. you know a couple base hits here and there uh i think the the one i feel more comfortable with uh my less blind spot would be fiji please all right survivor fiji which ravu tribe member was annoyed with the rest of their tribe after they ate too much and got sick on their first reward win ate too much um i mean i just showed a poster of it in my room i'm going to go with rocky rocky read is correct ryan you get let's go on he's he He was very annoyed, very annoyed, did not like that his tribe overindulged at the reward. Rocky wanted to control everything.
Starting point is 00:22:51 And Ryan has a five to four lead. Adrian. All right. When you see you have a Rocky poster, do you mean, do you mean Rocky Balboa or Rocky Reed? No, that's Balboa. Sorry, Rocky. I do have a Brandon Bellinger little placard in my house somewhere. So it wouldn't be the weirdest.
Starting point is 00:23:06 From what? Why? Someone sent it to me as one of like the RHAP gift exchange. It was after Bate Blake. So they sent me this little, it's almost like a post. card. I think it's a picture of him attached to some cardboard. It's, I don't know where it is now, but it's somewhere. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Yes. I'm going to take, let me take Thailand for the win. Thailand for the win. So you can go two points for the win, one point for the tie. Before the fake merge, each player was paired with a competitor from the other tribe based on the color that they decided to paint themselves. Most notably, Cheyenne gave a lot of information about the Sukai dynamics to Chewy got to her chewy gone counterpart hinting that she had clashed with her tribe mates and would be willing to flip
Starting point is 00:23:48 who was she paired with oh seemed a little fluster there rob i don't remember this this is uh tough for me because this episode uh actually aired the night i left for survivor the amazon um Let's see, I think I have a guess of who it is I can think I know one person that it's not
Starting point is 00:24:27 I am I am going to um why don't I just I'm just gonna go big maybe go home uh I'm gonna say uh gonna go very big uh I'm gonna go big Ted big Ted is incorrect yes Ryan you are going to win this quiz no matter what you have a five to four lead you can steal the point for one to really dunk on Rob here what do you know the answer? I have no idea. I only know, like, three people
Starting point is 00:25:12 from Thailand. Is it either Bronno or Clay? Well, which one? Let's go with Clay. How about that? It was Clay. Clay is the correct answer. Ryan, off of Rob's perfect game. You take the L here, Rob, it is six to four. Ryan, a winner on this week in Survivor History, baby.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, had a locker room guy. We had to bring us back. Yeah, I mean, Rob, you're going to throw again, though. That's the thing. So I, I, uh, I appreciate the opportunity nonetheless. Still over 500, four and three. Four and three record going into kind of the buy week with the live show here.
Starting point is 00:25:49 So now we get to go to something that we haven't gone to in a while. We have our verbal rebus. Ryan, what is your opinion of the verbal rebus? I love it. I mean, I'm a competitor. I think it's another element of not really competition. But, you know, I grew up doing trivia at the dinner table. Sundays thanks to my mother. So, uh, you know, any kind of activity like this, it gets the blood
Starting point is 00:26:14 boiling and it gets me going. So let's, let's fire it up. Your Sunday dinners were trivia nights? Uh, yeah. I mean, Italian dinners nonetheless, but they would finish with, you know, maybe some Tracell bananas foster or trivia. Interesting. Yeah. Or trivia. Trivia. Trivia was dessert. Uh, well, it depends. If, if, if we're dieting or not, you know, ahead of the summer, it could be middle of winter, you know, Halloween time, a lot of treats huby halloween right rob huby holloyne yeah the classic all right yeah so all right fill up our thermos with some verbal here's here here's the twitch dessert here this is kind of a long one uh the podcasting this the podcasting legend was the third boot on survivor 47 and we're looking for the
Starting point is 00:26:59 first letter of their name podcasting legend third boot of 47 first letter of their name plus when gretchen saw her votes come out of the urn during Survivor's first big blindside, she said, oh my God, it's blank. Plus, the creator of the effing stick, and we're looking for the first letter of their name. Plus, this player was compared to Cleopatra on the boat ride to the Maraamu camp. Plus, the player who set the record for the fastest firemaking challenge in Survivor history, and we're looking for the first letter of their name
Starting point is 00:27:40 minus the first letter of the type of crate which bit Jake Latimer all right the first letter the first letter of the type of crates that bit Jake Latimer what kind of crate was
Starting point is 00:27:56 what are we doing here what are we doing here I don't know okay so who's the podcast this is the first time in the history of the verbal rebus I'm completely lost I don't know. I think I've gotten like the first 192 and this one I am sorry.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Who is this? All right. So let's let's break it down. Let's break it. I think you're going to know all of these. It's just hard to put it together. Who's the third boot of 47 podcasting legend? Asia.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Asia. Asia. So we have the first letter. So we have the A. When Gretchen saw the votes come out of the urn, she said, oh, my God, it's blank. Me. It's me. So we have A plus.
Starting point is 00:28:36 me plus the creator of the effing stick we're looking for the first letter of their name Eliza E not that she's the the person who had it the creator Jason okay creator gotcha I think you're saying creator of the line itself no the creator is Ozzy as he created Ozzie created oh oh oh so we have oh that I that you lost me on the Aussie I thought it was Jason okay all right okay okay Plus, this player was compared to Cleopatra on the boat ride to the Mara Amu camp. Is that Sarah? It was Sarah. Plus the player who set the record for the fastest firemaking in Survivor history.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Okay. For Heidi, so with the H plus H from Heidi. Minus the first letter of the type of crate, which beat Jake Latimer. And I realize why you were confused here, because I was supposed to put the Heidi one in front of the Saturday. What are we even doing? That's where we got messed up. That's where we got messed up. It's like,
Starting point is 00:29:40 like minuses. Then go back to the beginning of the last word. And then minus. That was my bad. I should have put, I should have put the, the Heidi in front of the Sarah
Starting point is 00:29:49 because then we would have had H plus Sarah minus S. So who do we have, Rob? H to the iso. To the Rizzo. I'm going to beat you down, Jordan. Yes, Amy O'Hara. I think Rob might beat me down
Starting point is 00:30:05 after that verbal ribus. Amy O'Hara couldn't get any Guatemala trivia in this week. So I had to get a Guatemalan contestant.
