hey everybody what's going on rob cesternino back with an exit interview here while I'm on
the road. Last night we had a incredible live show here for Rob as a Podcast in New York City,
and I'm very excited for everybody to check that out. We will have that dropping, the video version
later on on Thursday. But first, an exit interview with the person who went home
last night. That is Annika. And Annika is going to be joining us here in just a moment to talk
about her survivor experience. Plus, we'll have this week in Survivor History with Jordan Kalish.
The video for this interview with Annika is also posted on our YouTube channel where
you can also check out Marianne Okic joining our chief
international survivor correspondent Shannon Goss for the live recap after the episode
last night from Wednesday after a very fun episode of Survivor. So we've got Annika on the line.
Let's go ahead and bring in my interview with Annika. Hey, Annika. Good
morning. Rob Sestranino. And let me just say what what an exit you had from the game. Dare I say
Iconica. Well, thank you, Rob. I'm so happy to speak with you this morning. I had the pleasure
of being at the Rob has a podcast New York live party last night and watching myself be so vulnerable in a room full of 900 people is
quite a unique experience. I'll say that. Okay. Yeah. Well, it was an amazing exit from the show,
but I would love to talk about how we got there. How about for you looking back when you think back
to the day and the days leading up to getting voted out,
is there anything that after it happened that you said, ah, that I should have seen that?
More than I should have seen that. I see a lot of things that almost I wish I did. It's obviously
all in hindsight, but wish I did differently or mistakes that I think about, like starting with John going home,
like he was a good shield, right?
I think like a lot of things add up.
Me going on the journey and losing my vote, like all of these things add up to me, obviously
going home instead of all these little moments that I think I could have read better.
I do believe that Sierra was going back and forth and teetering on this idea. I just don't
think she may be fought as strong as Sam did for who he wanted to keep, which I experienced very
similarly for our first vote out. You see me being the one person who wanted to fight with John. Me
and John, day one, John came to me saying, I want to work with you. Um, we didn't get to see the relationship between me and him build. Um, but again, I was fighting against three people to
keep John. And at that point, you don't want to put too much of a stink up for the first tribal
council. Um, we saw that you and Sam seem to have some conflict at the beach. Uh, was, was there more than we saw on the show?
So it actually started for me, um, in the second challenge where it's him, me and Sierra and Sam's
calling the shots, the whole entire challenge. Sam is yelling at us, Sierra, Annika, Sierra,
Annika. And you'll see that moment where I'm saying, Hey, like you're yelling at me to do
something, but I, if I listened to you, the ball is dropping. So please just listen to me right now before I make this move. Um, and it kind of started there
because I did feel like I was getting very, like his demeanor towards me was very aggressive and I
did not react well to that. Um, so it kind of got kicked off from that point. Um, but he, I will say
he did apologize to me back at camp, like every, between the relationship
between me and Sam felt very brother sisterly. Um, but I think that is what kind of kickstarted
this relationship where we did kind of feel comfortable with each other when you're hangry,
kind of saying these pointers to each other and then coming back and saying like, Hey,
are we good? And then, and it always was that, yeah, we are good. If you see we're running the
challenges together, we're finding the idols together.
We're the ones having the conversations.
I'm the ones hyping him up next to his rap.
I'm the one telling him about the rope.
So there's a lot of these moments where I spent so much time with Sam out there.
And I find it very interesting, my relationship with Sam, that the more the closer that I got to him, the more I saw him as someone who I could work with and collaborate with.
His intelligence and social skill was someone I wanted to work with.
And the more that he got to know me,
my intelligence and social skill
or who I am as a person,
he was more threatened by me.
So the idea of the breadwinners
and also Sam was also then,
I guess, the fourth person there.
Did you want to keep Sam as part of the thing?
Yeah.
And that was not something that you were going to sacrifice for the merge.
No, I had absolutely no plan on getting out Sam.
And the amount of times we make the comparison of having the Reba four out here, like we are, we're like, we're talking about we're being a solid four.
There's there's conversations that me and Sam have one on one about what we're going to do when we get to merge with the four of us and how we're going to make sure that he's solidified in this like group of three women. Like I, I thought that I was doing enough
to reassure him. Clearly it wasn't enough. Um, but I was aware of how he felt and I thought I was
doing enough, um, to make him feel comforted because that's truly how I felt. Um, and I guess
I could have done maybe more to make him feel a little bit more solid.
Anika, could you tell us the origin story of the Breadwinners Alliance name?
Where does that come from?
It all was kickstarted so naturally because at the camp, we just found that the three women were really just doing all of the tasks that you need to do at camp.
We have Sierra making the fire.
really just doing all of the tasks that you need to do at camp. We have Sierra making the fire.
I'm opening the food and cooking the food and running and getting, filling up the water bottles for everyone. And Rachel's cleaning up camp. And so together we were all, my favorite scene in the
very beginning, they added in, Sam's like, you know what? I really like some fire right now.
And all of us were like, that's what we're doing. There were a lot of moments like that. That's just
one that they showed, but it was kind of constantly like the guys are chilling, um, and the women are working. And so it came so naturally.
So we saw in the episode last night. So, uh, when, uh, Sam and Rachel, they go to the survivor
social hour and people are talking about, Oh, we thought that Sam and Sierra are running things.
And you came back and you told the story from your time at the journey. Do you think that maybe you caught some blame of like putting that narrative out there that it's
Sam and Sierra running the tribe? Yes, absolutely. And I think the game of survivor telephone, uh,
shot me in the foot, unfortunately, who I never expected when I'm talking to Kyle out there and
answering the question, if they're dating, I'm laughing it off. I think it's so funny.
when I'm talking to Kyle out there and answering the question if they're dating.
I'm laughing it off.
I think it's so funny.
Who knew that the way it would cycle through Kyle to Sue back to Sam, I never expected it.
And there was no intention of me ever saying like they're tight.
Like that was just so casually said.
I didn't think much about it.
And again, it's a note for future players.
Think about every single thing you say out there because you have no idea.
Can you talk about life
with Andy on the Gata beach? Yes. Um, I, I say it out there. I really do enjoy Andy as a person.
It's just that when you're out there and you're hungry and you're starving and you want to win
challenges, it is, uh, I'm a hangry person. I was getting frustrated, whether it's Andy's
coconut pieces falling to the side
while he's eating them and more ants are coming to our camp
or whether there's a funny moment
where the one egg that gets laid, Andy cracks.
There's just a lot of these little moments that add up
where you're just like, oh my God,
I really just want food and a night's rest.
And then again, in the challenges, I mean, we saw there were multiple moments starting first challenge where he throws the piece in the mud.
And the reason I have to stomp on the piece in the very end is because the mud dried.
There was just so many moments.
OK, Anika, you said you're hangry.
OK, you need food.
You are blessed to have gotten three chickens in the reward. Yet somehow the chickens end up getting returned. Tell us what's going on with the chickens.
Let me tell you. Also, it was my idea to return the chickens. And the reason why is because I this is what's going through my head.
Sam and Andy are going to kill the chicken and then they're going to hand it to me. And in my hands is going to be a bloody chicken in which I'm going to have to de-pluck and feather this whole entire thing with a dull machete. There's no cutting
board. There's no soap and water. I'm going to get salmonella. The guts have to be far enough
from camp so that the bugs don't like attack us at night. And then our fire is not strong enough.
So we cannot be the one tribe that doesn't successfully cook the chickens. And I just
know that I'm going to be the one covered in chicken blood. So that's what I'm thinking.
It's not even that I don't want the protein.
It's that I'm thinking about this a lot of thought. Thank you. I gave this so much thought.
I'm thinking they're out there like, oh my God, let's think this through before we just rip a
chicken's head off. Um, and, and that's when I say like, why don't we negotiate and let's,
what we have, like, why don't we have a conversation? Um, and unfortunately I didn't
get to enjoy those eggs.
Yeah.
You tell us a little bit about what your relationship was like with Ciara.
Yes.
Ciara and me, I felt very tight with her out there.
She makes the comment like the best friend, Ani, in this last episode.
And I really did feel that.
We compared ourselves in our lives and
we had lots of deeper talks. She would be coming to me and be like, I can't wait for my mom to
meet you. You're going to be my friend for life. That's what I wanted to do when I came out here.
Like it was these really real solidifying comments. And I do believe that those were real.
believe that those were real um it's it's just so complicated watching it back now um because i didn't know that she knew since episode two that i was on the chopping block
like the chicken like the chicken yeah um going back to the first episode uh we saw that you know
your tribe had a difficult decision to make.
OK, Andy had his emotional moment.
And then ultimately, the decision comes to take out John Lovett.
Now, I know John Lovett has potentially been saying your name.
But could you talk a little bit about how that decision got made that day?
Yeah. So I actually knew that my name was being tossed out that first day.
Sam, one of my alliance members, told me that day, hey, Andy I actually knew that my name was being tossed out that first day. Sam,
one of my Alliance members told me that day, Hey, Andy's calling out your name. And so I felt a
little bit calmer knowing that I was comfortable with my core four. John and I had a relationship
day one and where we wanted to work with each other. And the night two, our tribe was very
kumbaya. We all like did everything together. So you don't have a lot of one-on-one time with each
other. So what ended up happening is that night two, it was Sierra, Rachel, Andy, and John. They're
having a conversation at the fire pit and John suggests the four of them to be a solid four.
Rachel and I had already solidified our number ones at this point. So she comes to me next morning
and tells me, Hey, John is suggesting this. Then I, in my head said, okay, a little sketchy.
If you see in the episode, I do try to keep John because he is a great shield for me. And he is someone who I would potentially want to work with that. I think someone
who's, you know, outwardly really well-spoken and very smart. And again, it's nice to have him as
like a shield, um, for my game. Um, so that is a reason why I wanted to keep him. However, I,
unfortunately I was one B three and for that first tribal council, like you do not want to put
too much of a fight up, um, to keep. And I, I, they kept on saying to keep the tribe strong,
but in reality, I really do think that, uh, John, Sam just did not see an Alliance member in John.
Um, so it, and also in tandem for that conversation, when, when I was told that my name was getting
thrown out, I asked why they say it's because Sam tells me it's because you're the weakest
on the tribe.
And I think a lot of my, the rest of my game is now thinking, and I'm believing what Sam
said and saying, if you, if, if they think I'm weak, let me try to be strong so that
I don't get voted out because I'm weak.
If that makes sense.
be strong so that I don't get voted out because I'm weak, if that makes sense.
I have a question about last week that your tribe got to decide who goes on the journey and you sent Andy off on the journey, who is somebody who that typically the person
who's on the bottom, you wouldn't send them on the journey to get an advantage.
How did you make that decision?
It was a random, my number pick all of I, I had, I, cause I went on the journey
and I can't go again. All of them had a number one through four and I picked one through four
and I picked, I believe it was the number three. Andy had three up and he goes,
did Andy having the three-way amulet change any way in which he was viewed by the tribe?
Not really, not entirely. I do find it is interesting, though, because when he came back to camp and he's telling us his story, he tells us that his plan was not to tell us exactly what happened.
But he is going to tell us because Caroline and Teenie decided to tell everyone. And so therefore, he's backed into a situation in which he has to tell us.
So he's telling us his strategy directly, which, again, makes him-threat. So, so no, I don't level
next level. Next level. Yeah. And then could you tell us just a little bit about, uh, your
relationship with Rachel? Uh, you seemed very close on the show. Uh, were you two basically
ride or dies to the end? Ride or dies to the end. There was no intention of me ever, uh, going
against her. Um. It's funny because
when we were out there, we were like, we'll try not to talk to each other that much, not make it
seem like we're as close as we are. I'm watching it back on TV. We have the same hairdo. We look
identical. We're doing the puzzles together. It's very funny. Yeah.
Okay. Anika, anything else you want to let people know about your survivor experience?
Anika, anything else you want to let people know about your survivor experience?
Oh, there's so much I want to let people know. I guess the final note, though, is that I really was passionate about the game.
We got that.
That came through.
I got got.
That's what it is.
I got it.
Got, I got, got.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, Anika, you were very fun to watch on the show.
And again, I think we're going to see that exit for many years and a lot of highlight
videos.
So look that they can't take that away from you.
Thank you so much.
Yeah.
Anika,
amazing to talk to you and all the best outside survivor.
Okay.
Thank you so much,
Rob.
All right.
Take care.
Bye.
All right,
everybody.
There you have it.
There's Anika.
Seems like a really smart player
and uh had a lot of fun uh watching annika i thought that the uh comparing andy that he was
giving a clingy or toxic ex-boyfriend i forget the exact line uh she was had some really great
confessionals as well annika so so she was a fun character.
Hate to lose her at this point in the game.
But again, what a great exit that she gave us from the show.
All right, we are going to take a quick break.
When we come back, this week in Survivor History

You know what that means, setting big goals.
Maybe you promised yourself
you're going to hit the gym every day, or maybe you said you're going to learn to make fire with

All right, we're back for this week in Survivor history,
recording before the trip to New York.
So I hope future me and future everybody
had a great time at the live show.
We are back here with the king of Survivor trivia.
Here he is.
It's Jordan Kalish.
Jordan, how are you
uh i we we as we said last week i don't know how i'm doing because i don't know what the yankees
are doing you don't know what the mets are doing hopefully both teams are doing pretty well in the
we should be so lucky yeah the way series baby it's coming all right well jordan we have another
guest with us this has been the season of I'm taking on the patrons this season in Survivor History Trivia.
And so we have back here with us somebody who's been with us on Renap.
It's Sarah.
Sarah, how are you?
Hey, Rob.
Hey, Jordan.
I'm doing so great.
We haven't seen next week's episode, but I'm just going to say it was a great episode.
Yeah, still a great night, no matter what. And so we are going to be talking about the episode
fives in survivor history, but, uh, Sarah, uh, tell people a little bit about yourself.
Yeah. So I am, uh, based in DC. I've been a patron of RHAP for a while. My first season as a patron was David
versus Goliath. So that was a pretty good one to join. And I love all the different RHAP podcasts.
You already mentioned Renap. That's one of my favorites. So yeah, I really love Survivor. I've
been a fan since I was a kid. Guatemala was my first episode. Oh, Jordan.
That's why you're here, Sarah.
That was what you said in the application that got you on.
I haven't seen your application, I'm just assuming.
I did say that in my application.
There you go, it works.
Well, Sarah, great to have you here with us. And so, Jordan, you are going to make up some questions
about six different seasons.
What are the seasons we're going to hear about today?
All right.
So our six seasons that we are dealing with today are Pearl Islands,
Vanuatu, Exile Island, San Juan del Sur, 42, and 43.
Okay.
Sarah, as the guest, you get to choose your season first.
All right.
I'm going to stick with the new era.
Let's go with 42.
Okay.
Survivor 42.
At the final pre-mergatory tribal of the season, Vati voted out Daniel Strunk in a unanimous
re-vote after a 2-2-1 initial vote.
Who received exactly one vote on the first vote of that tribal?
Okay. initial vote who received exactly one vote on the first vote of that tribal okay so multiple choice won't help me here um i'm just gonna take a wild guess i'm gonna say claire it was
give her another chance.
Wrong season.
We're in 42.
Claire Rapson.
Maybe was at St. Pat's for this.
I know she's been to our... All green buffs.
Give her a break, Jordan.
Come on.
I'll give you a chance of a 42 contestant.
Okay, sorry.
Well, great start for me.
Um,
okay.
Let me try again.
Um,
I will say
Mike,
Mike Turner,
big Met fan,
Rob.
Yep.
And he did receive a vote from Chanel at this tribal council.
He was not very happy when he received this vote,
but you, Sarah, you get two points.
The tiebreaker was very happy right now.
He might be.
The tiebreaker was between Danielle and Chanel.
So Mike was not eligible to be voted for on the revote because he only
received one vote from Chanel.
So that is the correct answer.
Sarah, you're up to zero. Rob, you get to choose the next season okay i'm going to go with how about san juan del sir all right san juan del sir i know you've been podcasting a lot about this
uh this season rewatch episode five that's true so we'll see if we'll see how you will how well
you remember it.
After the tribe swap,
the new Coyopa tribe consisted of three loved ones,
pairs and one player without a loved one on that tribe.
Who was the one player without their loved one also on Coyopa?
The one player without their loved one on Coyopa.
So, uh, I think it was there's John and Jacqueline right unlike hi some then uh missy and baylor and dale and kelly and then who else is with them um
i am wondering if it's
i'm gonna just talk it through here for a second because that makes for better podcasting is it our winner is it natalie um because uh like who else who else is left on the other tribe uh there's jeremy
and alec and reed and josh uh and julie is with them also and i I can't remember where Natalie is at this point in the game.
So I guess,
and I'll be so disappointed in myself if I blow it.
Oh,
wait,
hold on.
Is it Keith nail?
I guess it's Keith nail.
Keith nails.
Could you fix the Rob?
You are correct.
Keith now was the one single on his tribe.
I had to talk it through.
I was giving a lot of information to Sarah.
That would have been a lot of info if you didn't get it.
So big get there.
Natalie was on the other tribe.
His loved one, Wes, was in the game,
but on the Hunapu tribe.
So Sarah, you get the next question.
Okay, let's do 43.
All right, so Survivor 43.
Who was the first player on season 43 to possess the knowledge is power advantage?
I know James had it at some point, but I don't know if he was first or the other person I'm thinking.
I'm just going to go for the two points.
I'm going to say Carla.
Carla is incorrect.
So, Rob, you have the chance to steal.
Yeah, I think it was James.
No.
James was the second player to possess the knowledge is power.
He was voting out first. Gio Bustamante voted out. possess the knowledge is power. He was, he was voting first.
Gio Bustamante voted out.
Knowledge is power advantage.
That's a lie.
That's it.
I think for sure.
You made that up.
Jordan Gio had it.
Gio had the,
the knowledge is power and he was voted out.
Nobody has it now.
All right.
Well,
nobody,
none of you got the,
nobody has the points.
Nobody has the knowledge.
No points there.
So,
uh, sorry, Rob, you get to choose the, uh, the next question.
Okay.
Um, so I got Pearl Islands.
I got Vanuatu and I'll go with Pearl Islands.
Pearl Islands.
Who was voted out in the episode in which the gross food challenge took place?
Um, I believe that this was Michelle.
Michelle Tesaro.
She was supposed to pretend to be bad at it,
so they would choose her for the tiebreaker.
She was too good.
She had that dog in her.
I know.
It's like if Michael Jordan steps on a basketball court
and he's pretending to be bad at basketball.
Pretend to be bad.
He would take that personally.
No.
So Michelle Tesaro,
the Michael Jordan of the gross food eating challenge,
is the correct answer.
She was voted out.
She got to come back as an outcast, but did not get to come back into the game.
So, Rob, you get two there.
Rob has a four to two lead.
Sarah, you need to get this question.
Either Vanuatu or Exile Islands?
Vanuatu.
Vanuatu.
Okay.
Which two players were chosen as the tribe chiefs of Yassir and Lepevi,
therefore serving as captains during the tribe swap?
I'm going to do multiple choice for this one. Okay. So we have A, Amy and Shanna.
Then I won't have a chance to win if I do that, right?
If you steal Rob's question, you would be able to tie um okay let me just go for
the two points that's more fun um i'll guess um eliza and ch. That is incorrect.
Rob, you can steal.
Can I hear the question again?
Sure.
Which two players were chosen as chiefs
of Yassir and Lepevi,
therefore serving as captains during the tribe swap?
Hard question.
Captains during the tribe swap.
I'm going to say it was twyla and sarge sarge was one of the
captains who uh captain in life and also captain in in i'm sorry scout i meant to say scout
it's fine yeah it was it was it was scouting search they didn't have to pick the oldest
people they just did choose before they even knew what they would be doing,
they were chosen as the Chiefs.
But unfortunately, you gave the wrong answer first.
So nobody gets points on this question.
But Sarah did need to get that.
So I think, Rob, you're going to end up winning anyway.
Exile Islands is the last one.
And this is a question.
This is a buzz-in question.
Yeah, we could do a buzz-in.
But are you saying, Rob, if Sarah buzzes in first, are you going to let her get the two points and tie it up? Yeah This is a buzz in question. Yeah, we could do it. We could do a buzz in, but are you saying Rob,
Sarah buzzes in first?
So you can let her get the two points.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm magnanimous.
Okay.
So you guys,
Sarah,
you buzz in.
So you gotta say your name for the buzz.
Okay.
Okay.
In the episode appropriately entitled for cod sake,
the reward challenge involves passing fish down an assembly line and the
player at the end of each line,
chopping the heads off the fish. Who was the very successful chopper for the running side rob bob dog it was
bob dog he was the chopper he got to chop the heads off the fish everyone was very impressed
probably probably uh bob dog's um you know you know finest moment on survivor he had some very
funny moments but i think this was his uh his big he was so good he was very good at chopping the
heads off those fish he actually won the fish for the tribe.
So Rob, by a score of six to two, you win.
Congratulations.
Sarah, you still did a great job.
And I think we do have time.
It's not one o'clock yet.
So we have time for the verbal rebus, baby.
If it's not one o'clock,
there's a time for a verbal rebus somewhere.
Anytime is time.
My favorite part.
It's not, it's always not one o'clock somewhere.
Okay.
When you win Survivor, you get a million dollars,
which despite Obama's taxes is still a lot of what?
What is a million dollars is a lot of what?
I could have probably said, what did J.D.
You lost me already.
What did J.D. yell?
What, a poorly worded rebus?
What?
Yes.
What did, I knew you would love this one.
What did J. i could i could
go to this what did jd yell during okay okay now you're back okay there we go we got we got we're
so bad plus the first and last initials of the guy who made an immunity hat on 43
okay plus donathan was visited by his aunt blank.
Plus, Malcolm, Eddie, and Redald made up the three blank Migos.
Fill in the blank.
Wait, say it again.
I got this one.
Malcolm, Eddie, and Redald made up the three blank Migos.
You're filling in the blank.
Blank Migos?
We've taken one word. And we're using the first syllable of that word yes correct all right sarah you think you have it who do we
have here monica padilla monica padilla money plus ca cody asamaka plus aunt patty plus uh
the syllable uh is the correct answer so very good job on the verbal revis sarah got it
very good job by sarah yeah i mean better job not very good job by you on the verbal rebus. Sarah got it. Very good job by Sarah.
Yeah, I mean, better job by me. Not very good job by you on the verbal rebus.
This is nonsensical.
It was a little bit of an out there,
loosey-goosey verbal rebus,
but the questions, I think, overall were good.
Usually it's the other way around,
where the questions are poorly worded
and the verbal rebus is very well worded
according to Shannon, Gus, and nobody else.
But very good job, Sarah.
Thank you for coming on.
And Rob, another win here on Twitch.
Yeah, it's been a hot start to the season, for sure.
It has been.
I think you've only, sorry, Sarah,
this might be spoiling the verbal rebus
that you probably haven't listened to yet.
But Rob has only lost once this season.
So at least, Sarah, you know you're going against strong competition.
You know, I'm just happy to play.
I should have gotten zero points, but you gave me another chance to get two,
so I'm happy with that.
Yeah, that's true.
All right, Sarah, where can people keep up with you if you want them to?
Otherwise, you can say, people, leave me alone.
Yeah, no, I'll take the plug.
You can follow me on Twitter.
I'm at Hey Sarah seal.
And by the time you're listening to this,
hopefully I'll have met some people in New York.
Okay.
All right, Jordan.
How about for you?
At Jordan Kalish.
Don't at me about that verbal Revis guys.
Okay.
Or do I don't care.
And then if you,
I'll be way too worried. Either I'll be too depressed about the Yankees at this point,
or I'll be so invested in the Yankees at this point that I'm probably not even going to see it.
And then if you want to come to the, uh, the, the New York video, uh, viewing parties, uh,
hit me up. You know, I re I just said the name of the podcast, the name of the bar on this podcast,
it's St. Pat's. Why am I hiding it? Go to St. Pat's. If you want to watch, if you want to listen, uh, or watch survivor with us, it's a lot of fun, fun this podcast. It's St. Pat's.
