Rob Sestrino back for a Survivor exit interview here.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's going to be a good one here today as we're going to talk about a person who was at the center of everything last night. That is Rome, who ended up having a very memorable exit from the show on episode six of Survivor 47. Rome will be here with us in just a moment, then we'll play a little This Week in Survivor History with Jordan Kalish. Last night, we had a great podcast. Frannie Maron joined me for an amazing recap of the episode. Frannie is so good in that spot.
Starting point is 00:02:07 I really think you should check out that podcast if you missed it, of course, in the podcast feed and up on YouTube. And then today I will be with Stephen Fishback for our Survivor Know-It-Alls at 3. And then tomorrow at 3 Eastern, I'll be taking patron calls on our weekly patron Q&A, which you can get access to at robiswebs.com slash patron. I see that we patron calls on our weekly patron Q&A, which you can get access to at robiswebs.com slash patron. I see that we have Rome on the line. Let's go ahead and bring him in. Hey, Rome. Good morning. Rob Sestranino. An honor to be here with perhaps the future host of the On Fire podcast and survivor at large. Rome, how are you?
Starting point is 00:02:47 On Fire podcast and survivor at large. Rome, how are you? Doing good, man. Doing good. You know, it was a wild episode last night and, you know, I'm doing as good as good as you can be, I guess. OK, so Rome, it was a historic tribal council. You got to take over for Jeff. Nobody's ever done that before at any point during that tribal council. Did you get tipped off to what was ultimately going to happen that night? I mean, I you get tipped off to what was ultimately going to happen that night? I mean, I was more tipped off before tribal than at tribal itself of what was going to happen. I knew that there was pretty much going to be a 25% chance that it was going to be me that night. I knew that it's not like it was a straight up blindside. You can even see my reaction when my name started popping up. It wasn't like, what? It's me? It was, why is it me?
Starting point is 00:03:23 It was more like confusion. Like, why did none of y'all want to keep me around as a shield when I came and told a lot of y'all information that was the truth? It was a lot of confusion because it's like, when you tell so many people the truth, you expect like, hey, those people might want to keep you around. If you're going to tell me the truth once, you might tell me the truth again. You might tell me, you know, this person's gunning for you and things like that. But it ended up backfiring and it hit a 360 effect instead. So it was mainly before tribal where i'm throwing out saul's name i knew kyle was immune who i had just put a target on and nobody else is throwing out a name aside from
Starting point is 00:03:53 saul so it was pretty much like okay if there's no other name getting thrown around it there's a good chance that it might be you if it's not the name that you're putting out there so i knew there was a good chance that it was going to be me i had my shot in the dark in my sock when i went up to vote um but i knew that hey listen if i play my shot in the dark in my sock when I went up to vote. But I knew that, hey, listen, if I play my shot in the dark, even if it hits, if all these people want me out the game, guess what? It's going to be like Caleb. I'm going to go home next anyway. You know, so it is what it is. So I knew that, hey, listen, I'd rather, you know, use my vote and and potentially cause some chaos and hope that I stick around with voting for Sam instead of instead of, you know, playing my shot in the dark and hoping that I last another day. So yeah. In the last episode, it seemed like that you and Saul seem
Starting point is 00:04:29 to have, uh, had some good productive conversations. Uh, why throw out Saul's name here once you get to the merge? Because at this point I knew that Saul was the only person in the game that a hundred percent wouldn't vote for me if we, if I made it to the final three. And you know, that was, that was the main reason. I pretty much said that at day three. That's why I was like, you know what, Saul, I would rather have Saul go home. You know, Asia, it's fine if she goes home, but like, I'd rather have Saul go home because I know that Saul isn't going to put a vote on me right now. I was already thinking of jury management at like top 17, which might've been a little
Starting point is 00:04:57 bit of an issue, but you know, I was already thinking about that. So that's why I was like, you know what, if it can't be Kyle, I might as well throw out Saul's name. Like people finally were able to see the challenge like when saul was like was like jeff are we allowed to swap out and things like that when you know you're not allowed to swap out jeff makes it very clear like at no challenge in any immunity challenge during the team portion are you able to swap out so everyone that's like oh rome why didn't you swap out when saul asked we're not allowed to so like i don't even know why he was asking but i don't know like it is what it
Starting point is 00:05:23 is so everyone was able to see saul like you know kind of put me down in the moment while I'm trying to solve and clutch it up and be like, are we allowed to swap out? Like while you're doing that in the moment of no food in the, like, that is one of the most demoralizing things to hear is your tribe mate pretty much saying like, I don't believe in you in the moment. So I pretty much like use that, which Saul had done in that immunity challenge in the previous immunity challenge on the, on the puzzle as well. Um, you know, I'd pretty much use that to, to talk with other people and try to get people to be down to vote for Saul because of the way they saw him treat me at the immunity challenge. And it ended up not working out mainly because, you know,
Starting point is 00:05:56 Kyle won immunity and he was able to rally the troops around, like, and say like, Hey, what, what Rome said that I said wasn't true, even though it was. Um, and so, yeah, I think that was just a, that was just a was just a little bit of a mistake from my end. Can you talk us through, what were you going for? You had that conversation with Kyle, and he did give you a lot of information to go around and then to start telling everybody what Kyle had said. What were you hoping to have happen?
Starting point is 00:06:19 So, long story short, Kyle told me all these things, and I was like, okay, this is cool. I'm on board with this. Like, he said Sam and Tiana, the big threats that he wants to get out of the game. I was like, cool. Sam's his target. Number one. I was like, awesome. That's my target. Number one. I was like, this guy he's talking, making nice with everybody at the merge. So I was like, okay, like, you know, me and Kyle are on the same page. Then Kyle said something about Sue and Caroline that was outside of the game. I'm not going to repeat what it was, but Kyle said something that was outside of the
Starting point is 00:06:43 game. I'm not going to repeat it. Everyone in Kyle said something that was outside of the game I'm not gonna repeat it everyone in the game knows what he said because I obviously shared the information the next morning So that's why Sue and Caroline were so angry at Kyle because of what he said So if they ever wanted to divulge in that or if anyone wants to divulge that I'll let them I'm not gonna be the one To do it because didn't make that it was outside the game But that was the reason why I pretty much was like no I'm not gonna work with you like you said that I'm not working With someone like that like I'd I'd never host another anything again if I ever said that about someone. So I was like, Nope, can't do it. So I was like, Nope, going to the Sioux and Caroline. I'd rather work with you guys than try to target you guys with Kyle. So that was truly it. It was a, it was a straight up
Starting point is 00:07:12 personal thing for me. I would have worked with Kyle, but once he said what he said, I wasn't going to work with him anymore. Okay. Um, Rome looking back at your game, I know you're, uh, an astute commentator. Is there anything that you feel like that you should have been doing differently? Yeah, I feel like I feel like, honestly, the biggest thing that I should have done was be quiet when you hit the merge. Like everyone knows. And it's so funny because I said in a confessional, too, it doesn't make I said, OK, I'm at the merge. Now is where you need to do nothing to get past the first vote. And I was just straight up even said, it's going to be hard for me to do nothing
Starting point is 00:07:47 because it's just very hard. I got undiagnosed ADHD. You don't got to tell me I got it. I know I got it. You know what I'm saying? So it's very hard for me to sit still and not be able to do anything. So that was definitely my biggest flaw,
Starting point is 00:07:59 in my opinion, at the merge was pretty much just not being quiet and just letting the chips fall as they may. So yeah., when it came to the pre-merge, I know it wasn't shown. I had a super strong Alliance from day one, literally Asia went on the journey and you hear me in a confessional say that was a big mistake. We hit the beach. We make a four person Alliance with me, teeny Genevieve and Keyshawn before Asia even got back. So I straight up told my Alliance within the first 10 minutes of us being on the beach. Hey guys, I'm going to go look for the idol so that, uh, so that Asia and Saul don't have it
Starting point is 00:08:27 So all all my alliance members was like awesome go look for it. This is perfect So then I start going look for the idol That's why I was able to find it day one because that's so much free time because my alliance was covering for me So I think it was really interesting how they didn't show that alliance at all But if you always look at who's calling me out who's like, oh man Rome's gone. Where's Rome at things like that? It's always Asia and Saul. It's never teeny and Keyshawn and Genevieve, the ones calling me out and being like, man, where's Rome at? Rome's been gone a while. It's no, it's teeny being like for real Rome's been gone a while. Like it's pretty obvious that she's covering for me if
Starting point is 00:08:55 you watch it back, but it would have made the Asia vote very freaking boring. If, um, if they would have shown that we had the four cheese pizza lines, which was our name. We had an alliance name and everything. Um, I was cheddar. Uh, I think Keyshawn was mozzarella. Um, Genevieve was provolone and teeny was Parmesan, right? It's like we had, we had a four cheese pizza alliance. It lasted up until the Keyshawn vote, but yeah, we had a name for it and everything. So it would have been a very boring first boot. And that's why when you see me going to Saul on the first boot and kind of being like, yeah, so everyone's going to be writing down Asia. And he's like, bro, it's only been 30 minutes. And I'm like, yeah, that's all it took. Like, that's a long time to talk about deciding between two people. And it's funny because everyone's
Starting point is 00:09:30 like, man, Rome was lying to Saul in that moment. I was literally telling him the truth. So it's just funny how like people can perceive me like lying to someone and I'm like straight up just telling him what was going to happen that night. So it was a very cut and dry vote. Let's go back to this last vote. So what went wrong with two of the cheeses knew what was going on, but then didn't loop you into the vote. Do you have any hard feelings towards teeny or Genevieve for not working harder to save you? If they would have been immune, I might feel some type of way, but honestly, no, like that's the thing about there being 12 people that are eligible to be voted out is that nobody wants to make a move. And that's kind of the issue
Starting point is 00:10:03 with it. And I mean, Jeff talked about it on his podcast last night. It's why he said he's not a fan of this many people being immune because it creates cagey gameplay. And that's kind of what happened. Like you saw it happen. There wasn't really another story to tell other than it's going to be Rome tonight.
Starting point is 00:10:15 That's why it was so obvious that it's going to be Rome tonight because everyone's playing cagey. No one really wanted to make a move. But if Genevieve and Tini win immunity on that half, then maybe they let me know because they know it can't come back to backfire on them in the moment.
Starting point is 00:10:26 So I don't have any hard feelings against them. It's a game at the end of the day. They did what they felt was best in the moment for their game. And, you know, we just got to wait and see how it all plays out for them. Rom, there's a secret scene this week where you kind of like Bruce in Survivor 45 decided,
Starting point is 00:10:40 hey, I'm not going to go look for this advantage. Everybody else can go look for the advantage. I'm not looking for it. And you had. Everybody else can go look for the advantage. I'm not looking for it. And you had looked so much for advantages earlier in the game. Why did you change your strategy about the advantages around this one? Mainly because, like I said, when you hit the merge, it's almost a brand new game. So, like, you know, you don't want to put a target on your back.
Starting point is 00:10:58 I already know that Teenie went on a couple of, went on a journey and also went on a hot dog reward. So I know regardless of what Teenie said, I know that she was talking about what was going down in Lavo. So I'm sitting here like, okay, they're probably going to think I'm chaotic. So if I'm out here looking for advantages and out hard idol hunting and things like that, people are going to be like, man, this Rome guy is exactly what Tini talked about or exactly what, you know, we expected. So I was like, you know what, let me not do that. Let me chill, talk with Caroline, you know, make, make a connection,
Starting point is 00:11:22 you know, make, make, make know, make alliances, make relationships. And I was able to do that. You know, I was able to talk with a lot of people, and a lot of people felt good about working with me. It was just how the chips fell about 24 hours later that things didn't work out. The puzzle from a couple of weeks ago, I just want to confirm, that was not a throw. Not a throw. We all sucked at puzzles. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I said it during casting. I was like, I suck at puzzles, Jeff, but one person on my tribe that's good at puzzles, no one on our tribe was confident in puzzles. Not Asia, not Keyshawn, not Teenie, not Genevieve, not Saul. Not one person was confident in those type of puzzles. We walked into the challenge 24 hours after failing at this puzzle miserably. We see the exact same type of puzzle, and we all go, oh, it's over.
Starting point is 00:12:00 We all instantly knew before we even started that challenge that it was over. We were like, we all suck at these type of puzzles. So we all said, like, Keyshawnan you want to do it you did it yesterday kishan was like no i just failed yesterday and we only got three pieces yeah we asked saul saul you want to do it so i was like no i'm bad at puzzles teeny you want to do it no i'm bad at puzzles so there's just me and genevieve and i'm like let's skip to the table maze and uh so what was the issue with the table maze was it you or gabe who was uh the problem on the table maze gabe i mean if you look at it we got to the very end like five times and at the end of the table maze. Gabe, I mean, if you look at it, we got to the very end like five times and at the end of the table maze, it's up to the person on the right side to yank it and
Starting point is 00:12:28 lift it up so that the ball falls in. You can watch Charlie do it on season 46 on his immunity challenge. You can watch even Sam do it on his in this episode. Sam clearly hard lifted up and Gabe never hard lifted up. He always let it roll to the side. So we literally got it to the middle so many times and just weren't able to clutch it up mainly because of what happened on that side, which was the ending side. So I can't control what happens on that side of the board. In the preseason, uh, you spoke with Mike Bloom, uh, before the game started, you told Mike Bloom that you had a move up your sleeve that was going to change the game of survivor, a move that even your fiance said, are you allowed to do that? You said, well, there's no rule that says you're not allowed to do that. Did we get to see that?
Starting point is 00:13:11 And if not, what was that move going to be? I got to sit in Jeff's seat. You didn't notice? No, I'm just kidding. No, I actually didn't get to do the big move. The opportunity never came up. It's a very specific opportunity, but it does happen quite a bit. So who knows,
Starting point is 00:13:29 man, who knows if I've ever go up back out there, you know, maybe you're saving it for survivor 50. I don't know about 50, but we'll have to wait and see, man. Saving it for survivor Rome. Survivor Rome. There we go. Yeah. Rome, you talked about how you were in the running, hopefully to be the next host of the On Fire podcast. What changes would you bring to the On Fire podcast? I think I would bring a little bit of a different insight. I don't know about changes I would bring
Starting point is 00:13:53 because it's not my job to say what's supposed to change about it. But I think that I would just bring a little bit of a different insight. Obviously, the last few people that have been there have at least made top four of the first three. So having someone that did make it to the quote-unquote merge, I don't know if you're going to consider this a merge,
Starting point is 00:14:08 but I see a lot of people online calling it a merge. I feel like it was a merge. Yeah, so essentially making it to the merge, a lot of people are going to be like, hey, you made it to the merge, so you got to at least experience the full dynamic. So you get to see someone that was playing probably one of the hardest games that we've seen play
Starting point is 00:14:21 in the pre-merge and make it through the pre-merge to be able to live on a beach with everyone and at least get through that portion of the game. So I think it would be interesting to get that perspective from someone because right now, all the people that have kind of, that have been on the podcast right now have went hard at the end of the game, not really at the beginning. So I think it would be definitely an interesting perspective to have a change up. I would love to get your insight on some of the other players that we haven't gotten to hear you talk about yet. But I know we're running out of time.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Do you think that you might be able to give us some of those thoughts in a freestyle rap? In a freestyle rap? Oh, my gosh. Freestyle rap would be crazy. You know, Ciara, when I first met her, she was really vibrant. You know, it was really cool to go and meet her on the island. And when it comes to Tiana, you can tell she's really driven. I don't really know if she's going to win. Who knows? Some feel like it's a given. And then we got Anika. People can tell that she's a leader. I don't know. It didn't look like she had a lot of food. Somebody go ahead and feed her. Then we got Keyshawn. The dude was delightful. I don't know. He seemed pretty
Starting point is 00:15:20 freaking insightful. At the end of the day, Asia seemed a little sullen. It was kind of dull in their vote out, but it is what it is. And, you know, TK, the dude was absolutely lovable. When I saw him at Ponderosa, he was extremely huggable. Then we come to John. The dude was hilarious. You know, the way that he played the game was very vicarious. Then we come to Rachel. She was super down to earth.
Starting point is 00:15:44 You know every every time i talked with her it was it was exactly what it was worth and then we come down to sam he's a wolf in wolf's clothing we'll see what happens with sam uh we'll see exactly what he's showing i don't know that's all i got right now man that's all i got it's a tough spot this is a tough spot uh you're up for the challenge you're up for the challenge all right uh Rome anything else you want to share with people before we go and by the way I think this might have been most words per exit interview I think ever so uh incredible job by you setting records oh yeah just that I had a ton of fun man and like I want people to remember like it's a game like everything that I did was in the context of the game everyone can
Starting point is 00:16:23 say oh Rome was this Rome was this who I am and in the context of the game. Everyone can say, oh, Rome was this, Rome was this. Who I am in the game and who I'm portrayed as doesn't mean that that's who I am as a person in my everyday life. Like, you know, like everyone that knows me in my everyday life, they're like, bro, like this edit is absolutely insane. But at the end of the day, it's a game and I'm playing the game as hard as possible. Every single thing that I did was in the context of the game. And, you know, I never took anything outside of the game, never called anyone out of their name, never did anything like that. So also the fact that I didn't follow Saul around until an hour before Tribal, that wasn't shown. It was like swapped up a little bit different. It made it look like I did it in the morning, that it was like super crazy.
Starting point is 00:16:54 But literally all that happened after I gave him the ultimatum. Like I didn't follow him until he said, I'm not giving you my shot in the dark. I'm gonna go look for the idol. So that was that was a little bit conscrued. I was like, why was that? Like, because it was such a scramble in the last hour that it was wild. So it was a little bit more justified with only 30 minutes left before Tribal
Starting point is 00:17:09 to follow him around, making sure he doesn't get an idol in the next 30 minutes. So yeah. Okay, well, Rome, thank you so much for your time. Thank you for giving us so much to talk about here in this season
Starting point is 00:17:17 and all the best to you, okay? Thank you very much. Thank you very much. All right, everybody, there you have it. There's Rome. He was cooking there for a minute with the uh battle rap uh with the freestyle rap tough position i think uh maybe him and mike bloom the only two people that might be able to uh do that just uh thrown at them but uh rome had a lot to say i think that uh as saul said uh, when Rome tells you something, maybe you might want to get some of those stories fact-checked.
Starting point is 00:17:49 But an interesting interview with Rome nonetheless. Of course, interesting always is how we describe this week in Survivor history. Jordan Kalish is going to be back to talk about some trivia from episode sixes in Survivor History when we come back right after this. So it's a new year. You know what that means, setting big goals. Maybe you promised yourself you're going to hit the gym every day, or maybe you said you're going to learn to make fire with a flint for once, or the classic save more money.
Starting point is 00:18:22 But let's be honest, New Year's resolutions tend to fizzle out by February. Wouldn't it be great if at least one of those goals could be automatic? That's where Acorns comes in. Today's episode is sponsored by Acorns. You've probably heard me talk about them before, and I'm excited to share how Acorns makes it easy to start automatically saving and investing your money
Starting point is 00:18:40 so it has a chance to grow for you, your kids, and your retirement. You don't need to be an expert. Acorns will recommend a diversified portfolio that fits you and your money goals. You don't need to be rich. Acorns lets you invest with the spare money you've got right now. You can start with just $5 or even just your spare change. You don't need a ton of time either. You can create your Acorns account and start investing in just five minutes. Basically, Acorns does the hard part so you can give your money a chance to grow. Using Acorns is a game changer for somebody like me who spends a lot of time thinking about strategy, whether it's on Survivor or behind the scenes. It's refreshing to have an app that makes investing simple and automatic. It's a small step that gives me confidence that I'm building a better financial future without stressing over the details. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by investing, this is a great place to start.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Head to acorns.com slash robpod or download the Acorns app and start saving and investing for your future today. This has been a paid non-client endorsement. Compensation provides incentives to positively promote Acorns. Tier 1 compensation provided. All right, everybody, we're back with This Week in Survivor History. And we have, of course, back here a man who has got all your Survivor trivia at the ready. It's Jordan Kalish. How you doing, Rob? Jordan, doing pretty good.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Ready to talk about our week six in Survivor history, episode six. How did you do last week at the live show? I had a great time at the live show. I think every season, it just gets better and better. There's so many friends who come to these things, podcasters, all the survivors. Had a great time. It's like our dysfunctional family reunion.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I think it's a fairly functional family reunion. I mean, look, it's hard to sometimes talk to everybody, but everywhere you turn, there's a familiar face. And it was really a great event that we put on in NYC. I wish I could be at the Cagayan event that you guys are doing in Philly, but unfortunately, I can't be there. Yeah, that's coming up on Monday night, the 10-year anniversary. This Week in Survivor History as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Survivor Cagayan in a special documentary that's going to begin a special screening one night in Philadelphia and then released to the world on Tuesday night.
Starting point is 00:21:16 Go to IStanCagayan for more details on that. But here with us, a man who maybe he stans Cagayan. I don't know. James Cain is here. James, how are you maybe he stands Kageyan. I don't know. James Kane is here. James, how are you? Hey, Rob. Hey, Jordan. I do stand Kageyan, and I do stand all things RHAP and Twitch.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Yes. Happy to be here, and belated birthday to you, Rob. Oh, thank you, James. Wow, there's so much positivity. Now, you stan Twitch? I do. I do. I've been a longtime Twitch listener, even before I met Jordan Kalish about five years ago
Starting point is 00:21:47 at his New York City watching parties. Please, I would love to know, if you are somebody who stands Twish, please let me know on social media. I think you'll find a lot of people. I'm interested to know. Maybe I might get like a couple. I hope you do.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Like I tolerate Twish. But if you stand Twish, like I would love to hear that. Rob, there, there are so many out there at the live show. So many people coming up to me talking about the trivia. You know what people mainly want to talk about? It's not the trivia. It's the verbal rebus. Everyone mentions the verbal rebus when they run into me. So I think that's really the selling point. Do you stand the verbal rebus? Oh, I sure do, Rob. Wow. I, for one, say let Jordan Kalish cook.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Let him cook. Maybe don't let him count. You don't know what he wants to make. Let the big boy eat, baby. You want to eat or you want to cook? I want to cook and then I want to eat. Jordan, let me just real quick. Let me get your level of confidence going into the World Series against the Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:22:44 I am confident. I mean, I'm not like... Dodgers are no joke. Take it from me. I'm not guaranteeing that the Dodgers are a very good team, very good lineup. Pitching may be a little bit shaky. Lineup is never ending. I haven't given my official prediction yet. It's going to be Yankees in six or Yankees in seven.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I do think we're taking this home. I think that we're going to be in... I'm going to be in the Canyon of Heroes in a couple of days celebrating a world series championship. By the next time we record the series could, could be over, not necessarily, but it could be. But I think it's going to be a long series. So we'll gauge my level of confidence next week. Right now I am confident, but not cocky. I know that it is a, it's going to be a close world series. James, you have a vested interest in this? I do.
Starting point is 00:23:28 In addition to being a longtime Survivor fan, I'm a longtime Yankees fan. Oh, I think it's a Dodgers fan. I'm hoping Jordan's prediction comes true. But I have you know, my dad is a Mets fan, and so I was rooting for a Subway Series World Series and was disappointed that the Dodgers pulled out against the Mets. OK. All right. What are you going to do? All right. So Yankees in six or episode six.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Let's find out. Jordan, what categories are we talking about today? What are the seasons? All right. The seasons we have are Survivor Africa, Exile Island, Cook Islands, Ghost Island, 42, and 44. He said Survivor, Africa. Africa. Exile Island. Yep. Cook Islands. Yep.
Starting point is 00:24:14 What was the next one? Ghost Island. Okay. Definitely not a lonely island with three of the island seasons. Long Island? Long Island, Survivor 42 and 44 44 and james as the guest you get to choose the season first i'll go with exile island okay so we're gonna go all the way back to survivor exile island very uh fun season of survivor and i will scroll down to find he's He's vamping. Yep. In the round before the merge, who did Kasaya send to Exile Island from Lamina, totally taking them out of the equation for Tribal Council?
Starting point is 00:24:54 I did my homework ahead of time, and I've been studying up the last, call it 12, 24 hours. And this is an episode I went back and took a look at. So I think Sally was the one who was sent to Exile Island. And unfortunately, that meant Dan Barry's demise. But this is Sally, I'm pretty sure. So James says Sally. And James, I hope you have your knee socks because Sally Schumann is the correct answer. James starts with two points. I mean, it's a little not fair that the people that come into play against me
Starting point is 00:25:28 study. Hey, you can study. I guess I could. But should you? I mean, you've done pretty well without studying so far. So who knows if you even need to say I think my four in one record should be more impressive. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:43 I think it's pretty good. Maybe secretly you're just studying for Twitch every week, like between podcasts, you just have the Wikipedia out. But Rob, it is your question. You're going to try to match James's two points. Which season are you going to? Okay, I'm going to go with Survivor 44. Okay, 44, the most recent season that we have on the quiz. Caleb memorably did not vote at the season 44
Starting point is 00:26:06 due to playing his shot in the dark. Who else did not vote at this tribal, choosing instead to sacrifice their vote in order to extend the power of their idol until the final five? Now, I chose survivor 44 as the category, right? Sorry, I wrote 44. This is 45 is the season here. Hold on, I wrote 44 this is 40 45 is the uh is the season here
Starting point is 00:26:26 hold on i wrote 44 okay all right would you have chosen a different season no i would have chosen it i'm just here i'm just very confused that we're talking about survivor 44 i'm like all right i'm gonna i'm in all right it's jam jam i'm thinking about what's going on here josh and you're talking about caleb and the shot in the dark i wrote wrote 45 in the question. I wrote it in my header where I have the seasons. I wrote it on top of the question where I put the season. Very muddled. For the record, I said, let Jordan Kalish cook, not let Jordan Kalish count. That's a good point. That's a good point. But yeah. All right. So let me just get back in the headspace now. Okay. So can you repeat the
Starting point is 00:27:03 question now that we're in Survivor 45? We're in season 45. We jumped a couple months to the next season. Caleb memorably did not vote at the season 45, Mergitory, I fixed the question, due to playing his shot in the dark. Who else did not vote at this tribal, choosing instead to sacrifice their vote in order to extend the power of their idol
Starting point is 00:27:22 until the final five? Who had an idol that they did not vote? I believe I'm going to say that it was Austin. Austin Lee Kuhn, who was recently a guest on the postgame show. He had previously sacrificed his vote to extend the power to the end of the pre-merge. And on this vote, he did extend his vote by sacrificing his idol, by sacrificing his vote in order for it to be good until the final five so that is correct rob you get two points despite my little
Starting point is 00:28:11 flub of the season you still you still got the point so uh we are tied two to two and we are going to james james we have africa cook ghost and 42 i I'll take Survivor Africa. Okay, going all the way back to Africa. At the Tribal right before the merge, Lindsay was voted out on a past votes tiebreaker due to the four votes previously cast against her. Which player with no previous votes was she tied with? Fortunately, as part of my homework, this is also something I looked into. And the person who received votes at this tribal, besides Lindsay, was Big Tom. Big Tom is correct. One of Rob's fellow Survivor All-Stars contestants.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Big Tom didn't have any votes against him, so he got to stay in the game. And he would go all the way to the final four of that season. James, you should have just said, I remember it. You don't have to say that you studied. I've been a big studier my whole life. I got a lot of books lying around. So I got to be consistent. I know a lot about James's educational history, Rob.
Starting point is 00:29:17 I know people who have gone to school with James. And I could vouch for the fact. Very, very smart guy. And I think the studying- James, were you one of Jordan's students? Oh, I sure wish so. I think, from what I hear, I think Jordan is an amazing teacher.
Starting point is 00:29:32 But I went to UChicago for undergrad and funny enough, I ran into Spencer Bledsoe the first day I was on campus. Oh, okay. Very random, right before Second Chances started. So it was cool to kind of have that connection with him at the time. James also did go to high school with somebody that I used to coach. So it's on every level of education.
Starting point is 00:29:55 James is someone that I have come into contact with. Too kind, Jordan. But I appreciate the kind words. Yes, of course. Of course. You might say I'm fishing for compliments. Uh, maybe, maybe TBD. Okay. Um, all right. Cook islands and ghost Island in 42 are the seasons we have left. Uh, Rob. Okay. Uh, I'm going to go with 42. All right. Survivor 42. Okay. This one is actually from season 42.
Starting point is 00:30:25 The Mergatory team who won the challenge was allowed to pick one of the two players who didn't participate in the challenge to join their tribe. They didn't choose Rox Roy, who was therefore exiled, giving him the opportunity to smash the hourglass. Who did they choose? Who did they choose? And then it got reversed. You know what? I'm going to need the multiple choice and maybe something will ring a bell.
Starting point is 00:30:57 All right. We have A, Drea. B, Jonathan. C, Lindsay. D, Lydia. Okay. I believe it was Lindsay. Lindsay Delasiewicz, who was on stage with us at the live show last week and did a great job,
Starting point is 00:31:17 is the correct answer. So Rob, you get one point. You're down four to three, but you do pick up a point on that question. And James, where are we going next? I'll take Survivor Cook Islands. And James, where are we going next? I'll take Survivor or Cook Islands. Okay, Cook Islands. Cook Islands won. Cowboy was the first player in Survivor history to ever pitch the idea of an idol split or a vote split to combat the hidden immunity idol. When he shared his idea, nicknamed Plan Voodoo, which two players did he suggest they split the votes on? I think he was looking to split the votes on Jonathan Penner and Candace.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Jonathan Penner and Candace who would eventually go on to mutiny together. That is the correct answer. James. That's a tough one. James went, got there quick. Yes. That, that, that was very quick. James, James knows plan, plan. That was one of the most famous plans in Survivor history. So foundational to the history of the show. Yeah. I can't even catch him.
Starting point is 00:32:08 I can't even catch him. Came up with it in a dream about credit cards and banks. So you have six points, James, which means, Rob, you actually cannot win here. James is going to beat you, but you are going to get the Ghost Island question. That was a clinching win for James. I'm hoping to see that from the Yankees coming up pretty soon. Ghost Island, earlier in the game, Michael Yerger. James in five. James in five. We're going to be talking about a James right now, actually, because earlier in the game, Michael Yerger found one of James Clement's
Starting point is 00:32:40 idols, which he mistakenly used on Stephanie Johnson when P.E. teacher Brendan Shapiro was voted out. Which survivor relic did he also find at malolo beach which was his second idol of the game hmm well i can't win so i am curious to know uh i feel like that jordan is gonna have to have done some creative writing here for these multiple choice options. Let's see what we have here. We have a we have Andrea Belkey's idol that she went home with. B, David Wright's fake idol that he made that became a real idol. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Eric Reichenbach's necklace that he famously gave away. And D, Ozzy's effing stick. OK, so Jordan did not actually do any creative writing. He just used the ones from the game, from the actual show. What creative writing did you think I was going to do? I'm going to say
Starting point is 00:33:35 did he have the stick? So I think that Dom had Andrea's idol and then I think Dom had David Wright's thing and Wendell had the Eric Reichenbach necklace. So I think by process of elimination, I think that Michael Yerger had the effing stick. Good reasoning there. There were two young lads back in the day named Aaron Robertson and Jordan Kalish, who wrote a wand off called Stick in My Pants about Michael Yerger finding this idol.
Starting point is 00:34:01 So Ozzy's effing stick is correct. Rob, you get two points for that question. And James, by a score of six to five, you have won the quiz. Congratulations. And because of that, nobody got anything wrong today, but still a well-fought, great job by you, James.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Thank you. Yeah, much appreciated. Send them to the Tournament of Champions. Yes, this is huge. You needed this. And you also need what's coming up next. We have the aforementioned Verbal Rebus, baby. Okay. We're looking for the last name of the Survivor 43 contestant who is also a prolific Blood on the Clocktower host
Starting point is 00:34:37 and former Twitch contestant. Okay. A last name. Plus, Cere Field spent all of the the exile island pre-merge on this tribe minus the second chances merge boot plus colby donaldson's mom's name plus colby donaldson's mom's name yeah it's a people know this. James, you know, did you study this? I can't. It wasn't in episode six, so I don't know this one.
Starting point is 00:35:09 OK, that's fair. I will say the verbal. That's fine. I'll figure it out. Plus Island of the Idols zero vote finalist Island of the Idols zero vote finalist. OK, minus the first letter of the first name of the Guatemala contestant who threatened to beat Gary down.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Okay. All right. So that that's what we have. So, okay. So what is the blood on the clock tower host and Twitch contestants last night? So that I think that Dwight Moore. Dwight Moore. So we have more. Plus, so refields. Tissaia. Tissaia. Minus the. Minus Cass. Minus Cass. So we have more plus sari fields try isaiah isaiah minus the minus cas minus cas so we have uh mariah mariah plus uh kobe kobe donaldson's mom's name this is the one so i'm by deduction i'm saying her name is gay her name is gay to gay donaldson um we have the zero vote finalist from you could reach that a lot of different ways there were plenty of ways like yeah yeah um but probably probably the safest for the
Starting point is 00:36:12 continuation of twitch yeah what do you think james has a twitch stand says okay jordan thank you uh plus island zero vote finalist you guys know know that Nora minus the first the first letter of the first name of the Guatemala contestant who threatened to beat Gary down. OK, Amy. Yeah. So what do we have? Mariah Gaynor. Mariah Gaynor. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:35 The the most recent. Well, not as of listening to this, there is a new episode six casualty and potentially what I don't know if they're doing. It would seem ambiguous in the previews. Who know if they're doing, I, I, the, it would seem ambiguous in the previews. Who knows what they're doing with Merchatory this season, but last season, Merchatory, Mariah Gaynor went home.
Starting point is 00:36:52 And that is the answer to the verbal Rebus. Should we do verbal Rebus merch? I feel like that should be a thing. What would the verbal Rebus merch? I thought of, I've thought of this. I think it would be, it could be like a shirt and it could say verbal rebus as a verbal
Starting point is 00:37:05 What would the verbal I'm a buyer What would the verbal rebus be And at that point isn't it just a rebus It's just a rebus But I think it should say Or maybe the shirt should say not a verbal rebus And it could be like a not
Starting point is 00:37:21 And a It would just have to be all text It would be like read but it could be like a re and then a bus i think it's a ver like uh like uh like middle part of jervis's name yeah it would be a lot of text for a shirt it would be well that's why it would be a verb about and then read and say read aloud okay what if what if it's like a hat okay this is good what if it's a hat but the hat comes with like a little like speaker device and you press the button it's or it's a bobblehead it's a calish bobblehead you press it and i give you verbal
Starting point is 00:37:53 remixes listen enough enough calish merch okay oh the seeds baby shirt what a reveal what a reveal okay well you already hit the high note okay yeah i mean i don't i always yeah all right james do you have anything that you would like to plug you earn a plug as the winner of twish uh yeah if anyone wants to follow me on instagram i'm james underscore k-o-e-h-N-E. And then in the last year and a half or so, I started a board game company. It's still very nascent, but I love all things games. And that comes with the territory with Survivor, but thought I'd venture out and start, try to make my own board game. So the first one that I've been developing is called verbal rebus,
Starting point is 00:38:49 the game. No, no, no. I'll leave that for, for Jordan to develop. But the first game I've been developing is a game called fishing for compliments, which is my left shoulder. It's supposed to be a game all about saying nice things about other people and vice versa. I'm really supposed to... Is that why Jordan was fishing for compliments today? Yeah, he was making a reference. So Jordan was kind enough to volunteer to try out
Starting point is 00:39:13 the game over the last year or so. James, what's the URL again? Oh, so for the board game company, it's Kames Games. It's K-O-E-H-N-E-s-g-a-m-e-s on instagram okay um so i'm hoping that this will be available sometime in 2025 uh and super excited about it i think it's a nice departure away from like the really intense social strategy games which i also like but uh i'm excited about this game too all right. James sounds like a great idea and
Starting point is 00:39:46 hope that everything goes great. So a good job by you on the Twitch. And then Jordan, what's coming up for you? We have the viewing parties at always St. Pat's in New York city. I've decided to say the name of the bar on this podcast. I feel like if you're listening to this, you're cool. And what's the worst that's going to happen? Yeah. I mean, people are going to find out anyway. It's all over Reddit. So yeah, St. Pat's in Manhattan, Midtown, very close to Grand Central if you want to make it to the viewing party. And yeah, you can follow me on Twitter at Jordan Kalish. I wish I had a fun URL, maybe like kalishesslaylishes.com. I could post all my slays, my wins, my dubs on my own website, but that'll be
Starting point is 00:40:25 coming in the future. But for now, you can just follow me on Twitter and we're yeah, we're good to go. More verbal rebuses coming up every single week. All right. Is that a threat or a promise? OK, that is both. However you take it, Rob. All right. Well, we will be back with Jordan next week.
