It's the R.H.A.P. You can see for free Hi, everybody, and welcome to the R.H.A.P. B&B for week three of Survivor 48. My name is Mike Bloom. And for you eagle eyed viewers who watched the video version of this last week. Yes, I am still wearing the pizza shirt. Not only in honor of our fallen brethren, but look, I am, for lack of a better

phrase, committing to the bit. And we have a lot to get into with the episode of the same name. A tribal council that takes up a third of the episode, a journey that's all about dice. Dice, literally dice and dice as we finish off one phase of this wild season and look ahead to the next. Of course, I am joined by someone who would never be described as dry and empty, unlike a nice island white wine. It is Liana Boris. Liana, how are you doing?

Well, I also like the idea that you've been wearing the pizza shirt the entire week. Like you have not taken it off, not that you took it off and put it back on. So I'm living in that reality. And also similarly to what you mentioned in the intro, I could not get over Thomas going dice, die, die, like dice. I don't know why that really made me laugh. It was giving a rest and development. And that's exactly or like Seinfeld of just like the back and forth like dice, really dice. Thomas and Bianca were honestly like soulmates made for each other

as much as we're talking to talk about another sort of platonic ideal of a couple in a much more toxic way in Mary and say that one truly feels like a match made in heaven might soon be torn apart by the upcoming swap. But first, we got to get into how we finished up the pre swap phase of this to see maybe the final sinking of the Vula ship and someone who is there boots on the ground in maybe not the room where it happens, but a room full of many, many people that have already gone viral, reacting to all the shenanigans that went out.

And she was probably part of that throng. Very excited to welcome back to the BNB, Sasha Joseph. I'm here. What an episode. The mess is here, baby. Yes, exactly. Like truly, you are a mess magnet. And this tribe is a magnet for a lot of mess, considering that through three episodes, Cedric has not only voted for all five members of his tribe,

he somehow through three rounds of voting, voted all the other people at tribal council besides himself, which he was not allowed to do, but also feasibly could because of these rules where he could have auto rocked himself out of the game. That's what I'm saying. There was a universe when all of this was happening where I thought, oh my God, Cedric's gonna have to go home. Like Cedric's gonna have to vote for himself

and eliminate himself. Everybody else is safe. This was when they started going to tribal council, I looked down on my little clock, cause I'm taking notes, it's 9.09. 9.09 and we're going to tribal council, baby baby this was way too early for any of this to be happening. It was just such a bizarre weird episode but really really fun. Yeah, again, it's just I'm not a survivor girly and then I feel like I'm a casual

like get excited about the episode and then I'll like forget about it most of the time. But I'm not like any gold, the goldfish level of survival. Oh, thank you. You know what? I love that even better. So I will be using that now. Thanks, Mike. But yes, that's that's where I am. And it feels really exciting to be like gifted with the opportunity to watch this episode with stands,

because as soon as everything happened, with the opportunity to watch this episode with stands because as soon as everything happened, because I knew from the East Coast, I didn't watch anything, but I'd heard that it's a crazy tribal council. So I'm like, oh, waiting for it. Okay, something crazy will happen, fine. And the levels of chaos that kept coming and coming. I said, oh, okay, such a girls home. That was a crazy way for this to happen.

So I'm just in my mind. I already created that dynamic. So thank you to survivor 48 for that. Oh, well, so from that perspective, I do want to ask Sasha because look, there's a lot to get into. This episode was was nothing if not eventful. But I do see a bit of a split opinion online. I certainly have seen some people be like 10 out of 10 episode maximum drama.

I mean, look, certainly for a team mess. We'd love to see a situation where both Say and Mary continue in the game. We'd love to see a situation where Cedric keeps saying, despite voting her out twice in the same night. On the other hand, I have seen people talk about how convoluted and sometimes confusing the series of events are. Obviously, we'll get into everything that happened in the journey. I even saw one person say that this episode kind of represents from a production perspective, everything they don't like about the new era.

So from your self-admitted Goldfish perspective, Sasha, give us the bullseye view here. As all of this was going down, were you kind of following along with it or were you just more so reading the vibes of what was happening? Um, uh, talk about gifts because I was watching this. It felt like a one on one VIP thing that I want with the Danielle Ray. When I tell you all it felt like so we were like to a corner. So yes, I could follow along. And I knew what was going on. But I just felt like this is, I think, what everyone online is also doing. Every single one of us had a different desired outcome,

or desired process, rather, I should even say I don't know about outcome. So we all had a desired process and each of us had different process. So for me, I was watching it, I said, okay, Mary's out. Cool. That's easy. In my basic mind, they should have like blacked out Mary, right? Or like grade her out. So like she doesn't count. Okay, Justin does not count. Now, say does not count. And it's all Cedric, right? That would have been helpful. But in reality, yeah, I felt like I could understand everything except and I still don't necessarily agree with it that after the second revoke,

where Cedric forces another time, you're out of here. Goodbye. Cedric, don't. What are we doing here? He got to go. So that's the only piece where I felt a little bit lost. And I was excited to like hear what everyone else smarter than me was trying to theorize. Well, I mean, I think part of it is there's the core rules that have pretty much always existed about deadlock ties. And so from everything moving forward

from the shot in the dark where it's a no vote, okay, we re-vote again, all of that protocol was standard protocol that has existed in Survivor for a long time, right? So I think probably where a lot of the criticism and concerns maybe are coming from is from everything sort of prior to that, right? Like the addition of the shot in the dark,

Justin losing his vote. And I've seen a lot of criticism about the fact that he lost his vote, not because he couldn't complete a puzzle or he couldn't complete a physical challenge, just purely because of dumb luck. Like he didn't roll the die in the right way. So I think, and then that's also,

I think on top of that, he didn't even choose to go on the journey. Someone else chose for him. So I can understand a situation where, well, if Justin volunteered, Justin recognizes the risks that he didn't even choose to go on the journey. Someone else chose for him. So I can understand a situation where, well, if Justin volunteered, Justin recognizes the risks that there's an opportunity for him to lose his vote,

but he didn't get that opportunity. He was forced to go. He was forced to play the game and then through chance lost his vote. So I think that from my understanding, I think that's more where a lot of the frustration is coming from, not necessarily from like all the voting nonsense.

Yeah, which happened as a happened as a consequence of all of the other advantages. I mean, well, what's interesting is to your point about like standard protocol. There are these precedents that have been set up some recent, some previous of like, OK, in the past, when it was tied vote between two people, those two two people usually don't vote because, hey, they would only vote for each other and cancel each other out. But we found out last season, hey, if somebody lost the vote, theoretically, if everyone got their vote in the tiebreaker,

then those votes wouldn't cancel each other out. So the balance is thrown off. So say you get it. And then again, to that point about the deadlock, whenever we have had like the Purple Rock scenario, we even saw this in 42, right after the deadlock, there was conversation among the people that would be vulnerable. It's just in this case, it was one person. And I think this to me falls upon and again, some people were absolutely riveted by this and I enjoyed the mess it created. Again, someone who team chaos all the way at the same time.

This felt to me like a confluence of factors that just don't work in the six person tribe structure, right? Like there's a reason why in the individual portion of the game, you don't have a shot in the dark at the final four. You don't have people losing their votes at the final four. The only reason why Cedric was the lone decider of one of these people's faiths is because there were only four people on the tribe. And I know it's this whole thing about keeping track of people in smaller groups or like the dangerous fun of there's nowhere to hide.

But this really was just such a perfect unfortunate storm, not only for Justin, but I think for the show in general that you had the Shonda dark combining with the lost vote, combined with this one one continuous deadlock that it then came down to this one person determining the course of the entire tribe. So I I have a question for you all that I was holding as well. Because yes, exactly what the two of you said. Right. Leanna, you talking about Justin going on the journey. Plus Mike, where you're saying it's kind of unprecedented because of where we are.

Right. Or maybe it's president because of where we are. However, you want to take that. And my question was, could they have added another rule, right? Like a whole new rule because, hey, now we've never been here before, but this is now a very real possibility because of all these new game mechanics that Justin didn't have a chance, right? Or it was rather all left a chance. So does that mean that saying Justin go directly to fire

so that everyone has a chance to fight for themselves because all agency was taken away from Justin and even say because like in normal like things, they would both have been safe. Right. Like and then you can't vote for people that are tied anymore. Yeah, it would have been it would have been if Mary did not lose her vote. It would have been a discussion between the two of them as correct. OK, do we continue to deadlock this? And then it would be a rock draw between the two of us.

OK, and to your point, let's go back to survivor history. The rock draw was first introduced in the final four of Survivor Mark cases. They realized after Pascal went, oh, no, that was a bad idea, because theoretically, even by the rules, they did a rock-draw between three people. It should have actually been only Pascal who ended up getting eliminated automatically. So they said, OK, now it expires at like final five, final six,

and we'll do fire making at final four before it was adopted permanently. So yeah, I do kind of wonder if that should have been a stipulation they threw in rather than kind of pursuing this route that they did. I don't know. I think it's interesting because essentially your appeal, you like Justin and say both had the opportunity to appeal to Cedric. Right.

I mean, that's what we see this conversation be. So OK, so Mary saves herself via mechanism in the game. Now you have two people who are essentially at the behest of their social relationship with Cedric. And that's really ultimately what it comes down to. And I heard that this tribal council actually went on for much longer than what we saw. So just just just alleged to me that it was like he said that apparently production said it was one like the longest,

you know, non-final tribal councils in the show's history. Right. So they had a lot of time to really advocate. I mean, at least that's what it sounds like. What we saw, though, was obviously not so much. But that is Survivor. Survivor is using your social game to make moves. And Justin seemingly had it on lock with his relationship with Cedric. Cedric was willing to send Say home,

voted for Say twice to send her home. And then Justin, maybe as a consequence of the poor decision to not tell Cedric about his lost vote, which I was shocked that he didn't say anything to Cedric, but whatever. Well, you didn't think that the convoluted game of the red question marks and the white question marks wasn't a salient story.

Don't even get me started on that. Okay, so he says that you can win three things, comfort, shelter, food, or wait, nothing. There's four options, but there's only two die. There's red or white question marks. So how would you get all white die and then you just randomly get one of the four options? What does that even mean? Play the Thomas clip dice, dice, dice.

I mean, that would have been that would be like the full of six. And to your point, like, again, there was a lot of some would say Mario Party asked shenanigans that went down to get the outcome that we did. I think that would be at least a bit of a bridge too far of like, all right, you're going to roll these two dice that don't have anything on them, just white and red question mark. And we are going to determine what you get. You're not going to know until tomorrow.

Oh, my God. All three determined, determined like on how you roll the die, which like then why wouldn't I know? So I can tell my tribe before tribal council so that I won them stuff and they will be happy and maybe save me. Make it make sense. Yeah, at least like with the ship wheel, which I will say also, can we bring the ship wheel back to Shipwheel Island?

I feel like for some I feel like for some reason, I think this has really been one of my largest sticking points with the new era. And I think, you know, Team Flint does a fun job just with the idols and all the tasks that they do there. But I don't love as soon as your feet hit that beach and you read that sign, you don't have the option to opt out of the game. And maybe now we've gone to the point where now everyone knows it. And so that's going to influence who's chosen on the journey. But it still rings a bit hollow with me.

And so I miss Shipway Lylem, right? Where it was like, OK, you have the chance to opt out if you want to. Like, yeah, you might get screwed over. But much like that in those games, you didn't find out if you lost your vote until tribal council. So maybe Justin was going with that, but extending the timeline just a little bit of the next day. They'll inform us. The other thing I missed, too, is when the games were dependent on your like how you can read other people. So like for example a game of chance that's perfect if you incorporate something with reading

others. For example you need to get the most number of fire die or whatever right but if you roll you know so many skull die, you're gonna go out. So then there's something where you're like betting against other people, where you're like, look, I'm gonna just get one fire die and clock out because I think everybody else is gonna go far, they're gonna bust and then I'm gonna be the one

who wins the reward or something like that. Like something to, if you're gonna do something random, you have to incorporate some survivor skill to it. So I think that that to me is like a frustrating part, but my whole argument is that I think If you're going to do something random, you have to incorporate some survivor skill to it. So I think that that to me is like a frustrating part. But my whole argument is that I think that Justin had an opportunity to advocate for himself and was in the winning position. Like he clutch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Like that was how it felt. It was very, and from the edit we saw, okay, so granted from the edit we saw, it did feel like Justin was, it was the, from Drag Race, do something Charlie. It was like, do something Justin, like please. Say instead of just like, you know, man, I trust whatever you go with. Like no explanation for why he lied, at least again, what we saw.

So anyway, yeah, it was weird. I do feel like Justin has like the hair to do a share runway. Like he wouldn't even need a wig. He's got that like he's got that long hair to talk. Yeah, I mean, what's really interesting is, again, in the edit, even before we get into all this calamity, we dive a little bit into the iceberg that is the Mary and Say relationship.

And Mary says, you know, if you're out here to play, you need to push back. Otherwise, I don't want I don't want to work with people that are just sitting by the wayside, cut to Justin, then Mary says, say pushes back and she pushes me. That's the result that again, the edit is displaying to us. Of course, Justin expressed to me, expressed to many other people that he did make arguments.

They did not make the cutting room floor. He talks about these powerful conversations that were had, that we were not privy to, but he was trying to ease off the break being like, I'm good. Like Cedric's my boy. And he also voted to keep me twice in this evening. Surely the third time is the charm. But then when push came to shove, it all makes it makes the most sense, Sasha, because last

week, Cedric says, this is like therapy, you know, we're trying to make ourselves a better tribe. And so who else but this man to eventually settle on? All right. We're going to leave with some actionable items from this meeting. Stay in, Mary, you're going to squash this right now. Telling you it what he was giving pop, right? Like pro process outcome. Like, oh, my God, purpose is just outrageous. And I loved it.

It is so funny when he goes, I'll make my decision with a stipulation. That sentence in and of itself, just Cedric. I love it. I was in shock because I thought Jeff was going to be like, you're out of here. Bye. Like, you know, stipulation. I make the stipulation. Yeah, I'm the one in charge. I just thought we'd get more, you know, like SAS from Jeff, like Sassy. Jeff, I thought would come back in that moment.

But maybe this was a long time. I mean, this was like, if you have three to four hours, I think even he's like, I'm tired at this point, like I'm ready to go to bed. And I love that. Yeah, of course, when such as the stipulation is say, going to say no, like, oh, well, yeah, no, I would never work with Mary. I'd rather die on my feet than live in my knees and be subservient to possibly working with this woman.

No, of course, she's going to say yes. Oh, so funny. Oh. And I got and again, it's unfortunately to the detriment of Justin, who I think did have a very cogent game and just well, to your point, Liana may have let the opportunity slip out of his hands a little bit in the form of those dice and otherwise did seem relatively well set up in the position that he was before everything went out. It does keep this incredibly delicious dynamic in the game two times over in

Mary and Se and it is wild to me that Mary obviously was target numero uno, was able to escape and then I thought like okay Se is clearly done and she was able to get by and that means the two of them make it one round further. Sasha, this means more running through the jungle. I love all of this, right? Like you could tell they hate each other. I saw online, right? Like putting them in the get along shirt.

No, they don't. They I think they would claw through that get along shirt. And I mean that with the utmost respect to the both of them, because I want them to know I love them both. And I just hate when my faves fight. You know what I mean? Like I want to put them in a room and be like, now kiss. Right. Like now your best friends. Like no more. None of this.

Enough. Right. Like your Cedric. Sasha Cedric in this moment. I'm like, let's load out Cedric. I don't give it like no effect. Like I like Cedric too. But like say and Mary are truly the most hilarious. Like some of the most hilarious people I've ever not met. You know what I mean? Like why is Mary just like swimming in the ocean?

And then say is like, that's wrong. That must mean she found something. And then Mary being like, ha ha ha, she'll think I found something. It's like they're so funny and cute super villain that I need them to be part of my enemies to love our story. I I am I'm not I think I'm crediting this to I think it was maybe Gabby or Sophie here posted this on chat BCC at the time. But basically, for those who are fans of killing Eve, they are the two leads.

They are the villain, Ellen Eve of like they are diametrically opposed. Bose. But they have so much respect for each other and they can't help but be drawn to one another because they also have very similar aggressive play styles, albeit one is on top and one is on the bottom. I don't know if I'm saying everybody will voting me out, even my own like number one. It is wild that she's gone to vote at every single tribal council she's gone to by her own people. It really be your own people.

Mm hmm. Well, I think for me, it was just really interesting to see the language that both of them are using when they spoke about each other. So both in confessionals and as well at tribal council. I'm I'm hopeful that as Cedric and Sasha would like, that they will be able to patch up their relationship. Like, I really, really hope that they can because they're just so fun together. And I think they really do like playing together. I mean, that's we see Mary talk about that.

We see say talk about how much she respects Mary. I think that's really wonderful to see. Oh, and also the fact that despite positionally where Mary was, she is like the only person on the tribe that knew how to mind say of being like, all right, I'm going to go swimming because that's going to imply to her that I have something and hook, line and sinker say it fell for that. Even a tribal council like say once again, and I cannot believe

they keep continuing to show this, like her openly calling out how much she hates shot in the dark. And then Mary being like, I might have something you don't know. And say, just giving that look to Jeff like like Mary knows how to to pick at her. And also the other thing is, again, the way that the two guys were presented to us is that they are more than happy to kind of just like sit back and let things go their course. And so Mary's like, yeah, I'm the only one that's kind of giving you your attention right now. And I know what pushes your buttons, which makes me not only your worst enemy,

but like also appear at the same time. Mm hmm. Yeah. And I think like you survivor. Yes, obviously, there's a lot of well, it's literally a game built on strategy, but it is a social. Are you sure it's on building rolling dice? That's what I heard. That's what I heard. I got some question marks that are saying otherwise though.

So, you know, you really have to just go with who you're like vibing with. So you can have some of it an immediate because Say tried to bond with the women. Say went to Stephanie and Mary and was like, hey, so like, what's up? And Stephanie was like, we're getting to know each other. And obviously that didn't resonate with Say.

And she's like, no, next. She's at work. You got to work. I mean, they really did do the Vula speed dating where she's like, All right, give me your opening line. No, we're good. Like, you know what? Actually, say say is two decades removed. She would have killed it on MTV's next. She would have been all red.

Of all. Next. Oh, that would have been fantastic. Or do you think the pop the balloon? Yes. You say, oh, that's how they play the game. She plays the game like the ball. Like, yeah, I just feel like she's like not interested. Or or she's like, I saw you go to pop that balloon earlier, Justin. You shouldn't have done that.

So I don't trust you anymore. And I'm going to let you know that. Yeah. I'm telling you, it's it. I don't play like, say, but like some part of me is like, no, but I think I'm petty like, no, I know I'm petty like her. Let me rephrase. But I wouldn't like be so like I wouldn't be so in your face about it. And that's and that's on my character flaw, not Say's,

because that is so funny that she just says everything to your face. And then she just somehow still here. Well, and that's what I know. And that's one of the many arguments she got in with Marriott, tribal council, right, which she's like, I'm very transparently honest and like, yeah, we kind of see that. And so what's so interesting is and this is where the delicious hypocrisy lies with these reality TV people that we've been watching 25 years onwards is right.

People expect them to be treated the way that they treat people for better and for worse. And so when Say finds out, when Cedric approaches her, right, being like, you should probably play your idol, she's like, wait a minute. But if people were voting for me, they should have been honest with me about it. So why am I feeling a certain way? Because I would have told you if you were in danger. Yeah, it's yeah. I mean, and that's where I'm very curious to see where her relationship with Cedric goes after this, because Cedric has now voted for her twice and now has also,

you know, we even see even before this vote, right, we see, say, question Cedric's loyalty and especially being spooked by Kevin and everything. So, yeah, I it's funny because even though we're getting the swap and who knows, they could all be completely split up. It's like Vula is still a hot mess somehow. I'm telling you, it's just the way that if my ally, right, like he could have voted for two people and one of them is me and one of it and I'm the I'm the second person voting.

Right. Like, do you not understand how ridiculous this is? That this man could have just voted with me and ended tribal council, but decided to go against me twice when I'm the only person voting. No, like when I tell I'd be watching him like this when he sleeps. You know what I mean? To be like, so you really wanted to vote me out. I that's great. Tell me more about. Tell me more about that. I mean, not to reveal too much, because I know we might have a game about this.

If you want to get into too much of like say, it's close from tribal council. She was so quotable at this tribal, specifically in reaction to because remember, she was the one in the first place that was like, Mary's either got something or she's going to play her shot in the dark. So let me throw a vote towards Justin. And the guys are like, it's fine. Don't worry. It's one sixth anyway. What's the worst that could happen?

It turns out the dice screws Justin over in more ways than one as it ends up hitting. And she's first off, she has that iconic quote that really represents their relationship, right? That's my girl. But in the worst way. And then once all the votes get nullified, she's like she's like cursing under her breath and over her breath and on her breath, just being like, screw these guys.

Cedric is the worst. This is why you don't listen to boys. Yes, that was my favorite in the confession in the booth, the voting booth. This is what happens when you trust boys. I wrote that down. Fantastic. Right. Like that was so and I said, but she never lied once. But this is the thing. This is also Mary's energy.

Is it that they're like so the same like magnets that they're, you know, almost being pulled apart because of it. And I just that that hurts me, you know, that hurts me because there's California girls, but then there's chaos girls and chaos girls. I need them. Chaos girls. That's perfect. I love that for them. You know, again, I think Thomas and Bianca are trying to like take that title a little bit.

And what we didn't even point at this out last week, Thomas getting stabbed in the eye by his closest ally. Oh, my God, that bruise I saw, I was like, oh, my God, you poor thing. Thankfully, it missed his actual eye. I'm my God. Yeah, very serious. Dr. Will has to be on call 48 people getting injured all over the place. Oh, my God. And as a company person, I've actually definitely hit someone during

like rafting like that, and it's terrible. So, yeah, I recommend. But maybe Thomas is sort of like using this as his scar to be in his villain era. Right. Because at least until Bianca unfortunately lost her vote due to literally dice, like he was ready to say, okay, maybe if we help Star find the idol, she could idol out who we want to and even gets his own maniacal laugh.

Mm-hmm. Ha ha ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha. The new Shantam. I did learn that. Yeah, well, Thomas has been such a fascinating one to watch, especially his relationship with Bianca, because I think it's also very interesting to see the parallels of all of these duos forming when Jeff said this is a season dominated by duos.

He was not lying. So I think you see like Joe and Eva and you see their relationship. You see Eva like bringing beads and then this whole thing. And then the beads and then Thomas just straight up lying to Bianca, despite the fact that they're supposed to be the closest. So it's it's really interesting. And I and I understand that because I feel like that happens to me a lot where I definitely get seen like X, Y and Z. And then I'm like, no, like actually blah, blah, blah. So poor David was like, no, I I'm a stunt performer. But like, I'm I'm a real boy. You know, like I have a heart.

So let me I'll try to put a theory out here, maybe in Kyle's defense. What if he maybe misheard David? And when David said, I have a trailer, he's like, oh, sick, dude. You're a stunt performer. And so you get your own trailer. That's awesome. And maybe did not necessarily digest the only the tone, but the rest of the information that David was laying out.

I mean, the thing is, in the way that Sasha is David, that's misunderstood, I am Kyle and that I am constantly flubbing social situations and miss reading. I mean, me too. I feel sick, dude. I mean, I think that maybe that's a possibility. There's no bad ideas in brainstorming. Yes. On the follow up questions, I would assume that that is not the case. But I like the energy.

I am sure their friends like I would love for Kyle to just like explain, you know, what he was thinking when he said that. Or was it just like a basic? No, I really think like living close to your parents is nice, which I understand because I don't live close to my family. So like, grant, I would like my family to live close, but like, I'm not putting them in a trailer. But I would be like, at least you're living close to your family.

So the fact that he did it on no sleep with no food, it's fun. It's just it makes for such a fun moment. And I think that's why I've been enjoying forty enjoying season. It's just more so that people are so open about what they believe about themselves and others that it leads to like these encounters where there's not a lot of subtlety happening, which is just so much fun to experience. Like this truly does feel like the sequel to season 46 in that while it might not be as like wildly outrageous and hysterical as season 46, which I still think is just like a special gem in and of itself.

This does feel a bit like they are channeling that energy, and they had just watched the entirety of season 46 as well. So there might put literally have been something in the water. I mean, what's also interesting is that David, it's a double edged sword in him deciding to open up about all of this as well, because, A, I think it does allow his tribe members, especially to kind of, you know, feel that he is not necessarily the guy he's presenting at all times of like, oh, this guy knows how to do is pull ups and talk about his, you know,

multiple nipples. But he's in Chad, like he's able to say like, yeah, to the Chad, which I'm so happy that Camilla officially now brought Chad onto Survivor. What? 39 seasons after Chad himself was on Survivor. But this idea that he can say like, no, I am a human being. Like, you can bond with me. Don't feel like we can't find common ground. On the other hand, he does present the stakes.

And we know how late like the stakes done. But he does say, like, if I don't win, I'm coming home to an empty trailer. And like, I don't know, maybe when you're looking for a reason to get rid of somebody in a million dollar game, he kind of presented his final tribal council argument right there, right then. Oh, David, winning the season would make me so happy. I mean, there's other people.

Don't get me wrong. But how fun would that be? David is the one that didn't know Jeff Proves, right? Yeah, David was the one who didn't know Jeff's last name. I need that's what it is. It's just I know something's going wrong and are right in the wrong in the world. I'll say it again that I am obsessed with the Alpha Bro. Right. Like what's happening to me?

Luckily, Justin finds a new, albeit more erratic partner in, Say. Like pineapple and ham, the two surprisingly work well together throughout the post-merge. Justin shows off his crust-fit physique in the

individual challenges, becoming an unlikely challenge beast. And so, in the mid-merge, just when Justin feels like he has a shot at the million dollar pie, he'll get sliced out of the competition as say, helps surprisingly lead the charge against him, feeling he is too threatening and personable to move forward. Justin will close out his time on Survivor with a score above one LMP parentheses. Luigi's mentioned per episode.

I guess I clocked that for every episode or I guess maybe some would more than others. He would mention Luigi's his closest ally was Cedric, then say and his closest enemy was the producers, then say. OK, OK. You know, I must say, I know, you know, it's coming from the sympathetic angle. Pretty good, Mike. I'm so mad at you. And the thing is, I mean, here's the thing.

OK, I would just have to say I'm opening my window. My windows the other way. I'm opening my window. Mike is so funny in his predictions on account that a lot of stuff he predicted would happen around Justin. Yeah, I think too. Yeah. So that's that is a special skill. And so it's interesting. Like I wonder in 46.

So remember by the grace of God, Randen ends up getting medevaced instead of Banu going. But if Banu had gone then, would they have triggered a swap? And what would it have been like if these people interacted with each other earlier than they did in this season? Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I mean, I think also from the challenges they build, they're like, you need four people at least to run this challenge.

We spent all this energy building this. So that was the thing that was interesting. So I ran this challenge, the blindfold challenge, which I was honed about. You better believe that. Like, do you want to be a call? I'm like, no, I need to be blindfolded right now, which was very, very fun. But what's interesting is when we read it, it was four or five people. It was two pairs and a caller, which makes a lot more sense than like,

hey, Joe, just kind of like scramble your way like a crab scuttle across the course by yourself. Oh, that was amazing. Also even better on the rewatch, just it's the speed at which he takes off. But he's, like you said, the crab, it's like the fastest crab in the West. He's just like off towards the bucket. It's so amazing.

This episode was fantastic. Oh, I know, I know obviously logistics and all that fun stuff aside, but the reason why I love this episode in addition to all of the macro moments, are they all the micro moments? Yes, that includes Joe running off in the challenge. It includes Jeff Grope saying,

David takes one well here where he'll remember when he smacks into a pole around his nutsack. So what I have done is I have put together a game, the Devil's in the Details. So we are going to be talking about little teeny tiny, even smaller than Micro, nano moments perhaps in this episode, because there was just so much to dig into. So we're gonna go back and forth.

Now we're making these tribes a little bit more equal in terms of numbers and challenge strength. Like I kind of don't want Loggy to be broken up because what what an interesting six some of people. And the fact that they're so quickly able to come up with this stuff on the fly, right, like he's like, oh, you like a red. So this is what I have to offer. And it's like so funny.

And then it's like, oh, we have free Wi-Fi. We have that. What hilarious. And I just appreciate like, oh, we have free Wi-Fi. We have the what hilarious. And I just appreciate quick winter people like that. So. Well, and especially with them being so like, you know, we get the emotional scene of them being low morale and things like that. But they're so funny. So even without food, right, like they're still kicking it. Yeah. I mean, again, they'll just the line said rather dryly by Thomas

of dry and empty. I can relate to that. I can relate. It's incredible. Yeah. Yeah. Especially as it's the shot of him with the black eye. Yeah. What the hell happened to you? Yeah, you're reading dry and empty right now. It's the smile also.

And he gets he's like, yeah, it's giving like vampire, right? Like he sucked all the blood out. I mean, speaking of that, I don't know if you've been paying attention to Instagram, but Sarah Michelle Geller has been watching the season and is a fan of Thomas. What a segue. I love Buffy. Yeah, he loved.

Oh, yeah, Joe was a smallie. I think what Bianca could be like the chef. Mm hmm. Yeah, she it would be all of the movie, the menu. But still. Mm hmm. Mike, we're moving away from Chrissy.

We're going to Camilla because what sound does Camilla make when she gets to the journey yachtsy table? Uh huh. Does she go, what? Does she go, oh, does she go, oh, or does she go, no. OK, so we've got what we've got the Tim Allen. Oh, we've got what was it? Oh, and no.

OK, I know it would be interesting because, again, Camilla is also someone who is like incredibly blunt, like I am hoping that her and Thomas end up on the same swab trap. I think the two of them have such similar personalities and dispositions, actually. They can either get along really well or this could be a neither can live while the other survives type of thing. So like, no, I would not be surprised if she just outwardly looked at the table and said, no, I don't want I don't want to do this. This is a trap.

Why am I rolling dice right now? I'm going to say. There's such a fine line between Wa and oh, I don't think she she fully Tim Allen did. I'm going to say she went, oh, see. OK, that is incorrect. It was oh, so what Tim Allen? It was full time. Oh, wow, I would not have heard that either.

And I re-listened to that to make sure I got the sound right because it's not, oh, it's, oh. So I mean. Yeah, because I think I would have been B. I mean, to reference another nano moment from the premiere, Jeff did say it was tool time on Survivor. So maybe Camilla's had that in her head ever since. Oh, makes sense, planting the seeds, Jeff.

Yeah, just like I don't know if you realize CBS is actually bringing back home improvement now more than ever. Yeah. OK. So let's go to Sasha. Here is your question. What greeting does Cedric offer to Mary, which she ignores, when Vula back to camp after the challenge? Oh, brother.

Was it A, a fist bump? B, a high five? C, a low five? Or D, an elbow bump? So just to set the scene a little bit, maybe this is helping Sasha. So the scene is that like they got back to camp. Because again, Justin went on the journey. So like they've been walking together from the challenge.

And now once they officially settle into camp, Cedric will offer this gesture that Mary will rebuff. And I have a screenshot that I will show after this because it's so funny. OK, so it's funny. So I feel like, OK, so high five, low five, elbow. Or what was the other one? Oh, yeah. This is high five. Well, I guess it's a medical professional.

I think he's still in the elbow period. Yeah. Um. He's a dad. So this is such a dad thing he's doing, I feel. So do that. I do. Dad's give low fives, right? Like I feel like that's that's a little bit when you're teaching your kid. High five. Low five. Now, you know, do this. In the middle too slow. Yeah.

So it just feels like that to dad. I'm just going to go with fist bump. That is correct. I have the have to show. So Mary is a sadder ghost of the fist bump. Mary just keeps on walking. I don't even think she saw it in her defense, but it was absolutely hilarious. Actually, while I have this up, I don't have any other visual clues.

Also, to step away from the funny moments for a second, I did notice something else upon the rewatch, which is they use the same shot of Cedric reacting to the lack of a third vote twice. So after the first time there were only two votes for Mary, he gives this look, which is the exact same reaction look that he gives. So either Cedric is masterful at moving and looking exactly the same way or they reuse the same shot to show Cedric's confusion to there only being two votes. Honestly, I think it's 50-50 in either direction.

Like, I would not be surprised if Cedric's like, and I will make the exact reaction every time I realize there's no vote. I don't. Yeah, I remember this. And I was like, why? Why do you keep being surprised? Like, I remember thinking that. Yes. That's Pui. And I had the exact same. Yeah. Like, why is he confused? He knows all right. Like, he was confused the first time.

And also to be fair, Cedric confused us over the course of this tribal council. So it was her turn to wear it on his face. Yep. Okay, so we are all tied up going into the final two questions.

I think I recalled him saying that, which is odd, because I feel like when somebody does say that, Jeff typically calls them out of like, oh, you said see you soon. She tries to be like a bat where she is like, yes. But it's like out of context.

I think the logic was sound of like, clearly sound of I have to listen to see if say is coming. But it just randomly cuts to you because Say is like, Oh, my God, Mary's so good at this game and it cuts to her holding her ears. Yeah. OK, yes. And now I fully remember that. That's why I shout out my brain because I was like, in reality, I just remember her being chased by say.

So like what will that equal to this? Yeah. Oh, So congratulations, Sasha. That was very impressive. Yeah, very good. Extremely well as well. You both really picked up a ton from this episode that I only really even got on the rewatch. So I'm very impressed. There are a few other moments I didn't end up using. There was an interaction between Say and Mary where it's before Mary bolts again

to the woods where they're talking about water. And Mary's like, well, you say you drink a lot of water and say, like, I drink a lot of water, which is why I can survive a lot of water. That I fully remember like a camel. She saved up a repository of water that she can live off of. Yeah, exactly. I don't have a lot of water. Well, I have like 60 percent or some weird numbers. What Mary, I remember when when both when both Loggy and Siva come into the immunity arena, I suppose.

You know, Loggies cheering Shaheen goes, you know, who's here? Jeff goes, that's an entrance. Then when Siva enters, Jeff goes, good morning, Siva. And Chrissy replies, Good morning, Jeff. How? Yeah. You're just in time for lunch. Yeah, exactly. It's another little funny Chrissy moment.

It's brunch time. It's time for brunch. So, yeah, just a just a beautiful episode. Very full of little TV nanomoments. I love. Which is again, this is why we like the 90 minute episodes. Good. Thank you. Fantastic job, Liana, for taking through some of those smaller moments of again.

I think a lot of people pay attention to what happened in that that latter third and don't necessarily think about the simultaneous lack of screen time, yet preponderance of, you know, a bunch of random things that Chrissy had said over the course of this episode. Yeah. It's like, what? OK. I literally couldn't believe Chrissy spoke like now until you said it. Yeah, she had three one liners. And they were all bangers. Amazing.

I did also notice, I don't know if you noticed as well, that Lagi does is maybe one of the rowdiest tribes to enter challenges like everyone the boat challenge. I said, I like it with the like. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Very cartoon character. I mean, it's like best entrance, right? I mean, it's interesting because, you know, when Justin talked with me, he had said that what was so odd is that he felt that Siva and Lagi

basically had first round buys in terms of survivor. And like Lagi kind of has been acting like that, right? They have Wi-Fi. They have wine pairings. They're making bonfires. They're cootin and hollering as they're walking into challenges. While Vula is like, can this be one where we maybe have a shot of not getting decimated at this point? Oh my God.

Can we have a muscle, bro? We don't need to borrow. Yes. To, to populate. I don't need two muscles. Well, give it over the hair because we all think that survival conspiracy theory time that they do disaster tribes on purpose. that they do disaster tribes on purpose.

I just don't understand how they can look at the tribes and be like, yeah, Vula's got a shot. I don't know. Like it's just, it's so tough for me to believe that. But I think also they're probably designing. I mean, I don't know what logic goes into designing the tribes, right? So I think sure balance and tribe strength is probably part of that. But I think you're also looking for what's going to be fun dynamics.

So it's tough to balance those two priorities. Oh, yeah. So I have a lot of thoughts about this. And I look there could certainly be a thing that's like, well, we want to create drama early on. I think to Liana's point, that plays out with putting certain people together. Like, I would not be surprised if they put, say, and Stephanie on the same tribe, knowing that these two personalities would not get along from the jump. I don't know if they would do that with a tribe overall. I personally and look, I could be incorrect in the thumb might be on the scale.

I credit it to a few different things. A yes, I think from a physical strength perspective, Vula was completely outmatched. If you look at the challenges we've had in the past two episodes, yes, I think from a physical strength perspective, Vula was completely outmatched. If you look at the challenges we've had in the past two episodes, though, like the swimming challenge, there could be the biggest guy that just sinks like a stone in the ocean. And what happened with Vula was that it just came down to literal balance and dexterity. This past challenge wasn't about physical strength at all. It was all about communication and puzzle skills.

So I actually think on the one hand, yes, the physical strength was specifically reserved for the premiere. On the other hand, there's also something about momentum, right? There's also something about like if one tribe, then luckily Kevin was able to get those supplies due to Kyle's actions that they're not Yanu completely left dead in the water without any flints like. But they lost early on. And when you do that, you tend to lose. It's kind of tough to pull yourself out, especially once other tribes start sending people out.

I'm more so accredited to this three tribe structure, to the fact that. Yeah, I think it is just much harder to balance three tribes rather than two, to split up all sorts of sets of skills equally. Obviously much easier to do when you split the cast in half rather than thirds. I mean, look at the fact that, OK, between Ua in 41 and then Tika, Lulu, Yanu, now Vula, that's five out of eight seasons in the new era that have had one tribe lose at least three challenges in the pre-emerge.

I think it's it's a feature, not a bug, but not in the way of like, oh, clearly the producers want this to happen. I think in their ideal world, they would want it to be like a 42 or a 43 or a 47 where like different tribes keep going back to tribal council. I think it is a product of them trying to split things up and having difficulty doing so just because it's almost impossible to do with a three tribe structure. Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah. I think that's a good point in terms of the momentum and also the, you know, not having the flint and the low morale and all of those kinds of things,

because, yeah, like this challenge, for example, there was essentially zero strength. I mean, it was what pulling the rope, I guess, would have been the only like. I mean, I literally pulled that rope and look at me like that. It's it was no nowhere near strength required. Yeah, but you're powered by pizza, right? Oh, P.O.P. or P.B.B. Yeah, you know me. Yeah. So I'm just kidding.

That could have been that he gets a super powers from pizza and he was a week removed from it at that point. That is it all kind of like left his system. Mm hmm. Mm hmm. He just powered down. I need pizza. Before we go, I do want to mention something from my interview with Justin, which was pretty wild. So Justin, this is actually not the first time he had had an experience with casting.

For those that don't know, Justin has revealed that he apparently was in the casting process, I believe, last year, and he got a check from medical as part of the casting process. And they discovered that he, like, had a heart condition that he did not know about. And luckily, he was able to, like, go take care of it and, you know, be in a clean bill of health by the time he was able to come out from 48. But like, absolutely wild. I mean, this I think this was a Jimmy Johnson story as well. If I remember from the Nicaragua reunion where he was like, yeah, when I was, I was supposed

to come out for a previous season. But then when I got a health check, I realized that I actually had high blood pressure and that could have saved my life. Apparently that was a similar case with Justin. And I think maybe that does explain as well, like some of the attitude and gratitude he had for when he left, because he was just like, yeah, I mean, there was a very fair chance that they could just throw me by the wayside once they found out that I wasn't medically cleared back then. But they gave me another shot. And so I was playing with house money at that point. I'm not a gambler, but I was playing with house money.

Yeah, I, I do think that's is that more indicative of the American health care system than anything else? Because I'm about to I'm like, I'm a survivor just to get the medical check. Care about being in the show. I just. Right. I don't like the rhyme with me. I would have been like, that's survivor gods helping me out right there. Yeah, I mean, maybe when Jeff is saying like apply,

he should bring in more of these like you want a free physical apply to be physical survivor. Yeah, because of the oh my God. Well, to finish things off, talk about, you know, drawing attention to institutions that exist outside of this game. Of course, the end of every BNB podcast, we give our guests the opportunity to highlight a charity or cause that is important to them.

Sasha, Joseph, eyes are on you right now. What do you want to highlight for the listeners out there? Great, I wanted to highlight, just like folks that came before me, right? Where I wanted to highlight a cause called Race Forward. They're an organization whose mission is to really do racial justice work in partnership with communities on the ground and organizations and sectors where they really like bring

Bring communities together and invest in Communities and and gives community strategies as well They host a really big racial justice conference that I actually went to called Facing Race as well. So really again, to like teach people doing like DEI, which isn't a bad word, DEI and race and social justice work and education as well. So they bring us all together to like do a lot of teaching and learning.

So I wanted to highlight their work because DEI and race, and I know personally, is under a lot of struggles. I work for a company doing similar work. So yeah, just look out for these companies or these organizations or things in your local communities and help those people out. Yeah, incredibly valid. Very, very well said. And Sasha, you're going to keep on speaking even outside of this

survivor podcast, because you have a lot going on in terms of podcasting out there in the RHA universe and beyond. What would you like to plug for the listeners out there?
