hey everybody what's going on Rob Sestranino back to kick off another season of Survivor here on RHAP it's Survivor cast release day and we are off and running in the shortest sprint of a Survivor preseason we've ever had.
And here with us to talk about it.
I call him many things, but lately I've been calling him Mr. Preseason.
Here he is.
Give it up for Mike Bloom.
Just added on to the list of names, Rob, as well as the list of names.
He was Mr. Off-Season.
Now he's Mr. Pre-Season.
I mean, for those that have been following
the off-season Survivor coverage,
yeah, it feels like we've never left.
But here today, after spending the past few months
talking about every other Survivor contestant in the past,
it's time we talk about the present
and a little bit of the future.
Much like the present, Rob,
what a gift we get in the form of the 18 new contestants of Survivor 47.
Yep, here we go.
Very excited.
People are pumped up.
Survivor is just two weeks away, if you can believe it.
And we have so many things to be excited for here in Survivor 47.
So today, we kick off our preseason coverage with all of the headlines at this hour.
I believe, Mike, several headlines, the several things we know.
Yeah, this is like a little pastiche back to the days of you and Josh Wigler doing these cast release days.
I have compiled the several things you need to know about both the season of survivor 47 and its cast. We're going to go a little bit into the 18 new castaways today because Rob,
there is plenty where that came from.
We are still going to be doing our entire preseason routine.
I got the chance to talk with all 18 castaways before they went out to play
the greatest game on earth.
And that's all going to be rolling out over the next week and a half.
So today it's a nice little aperitif, a rousing for those that have been asleep survivor-wise
since the end of Survivor 46, as we start to get the heart rate up and ready to go on
September 18th, when Survivor 47 premieres with a two-hour episode.
Okay, so we've got a lot that we are going to be coming your way with here in these next two weeks.
So we back.
We are so back.
So make sure that you are ready to go.
All you need to do is go to robbizwebsite.com slash subscribe or click that subscribe button here on YouTube.
That's how you get all the podcasts completely free.
No strings attached.
Okay?
Yeah, no beware advantages.
You don't have to melt a candle
to get to the earbud
to listen to the podcast.
You don't have to take a machete
and measure the length
to get the code
to unlock your podcast.
All for free.
And suffice to say,
if people are just jumping in
for the first time, Rob,
because who knows,
there might be a certain contestant's fan base that is coming into people are just jumping in for the first time, Rob, because who knows, there might be a certain contestant's
fan base that is coming into the Survivor
fan base for the first time.
They should know you have plenty
of podcasts on a weekly basis.
Yes, and they will get delivered
to you
many times a week.
That's my money-back guarantee to you.
Okay? Now, if they're not
paying anything, does the money back
guarantee work yes okay there we go fire token back rob his website.com slash subscribe that's
all you have to do i'm not asking for any ratings or reviews this season just hit that subscribe button all right mike let's get into everything that we uh need to
talk about at this hour um so where should we start so let's shout out to everyone we're here
live on a two uh wednesday afternoon and uh chat say make say hello come on make your voices heard
don't be shy chat like if we're doing a concert and we're saying like, you know, make some noise,
but they're not the proverbially making noise.
People who are listening to the podcast probably in retrospect can't hear the noise.
We see all the comments.
They go, pfft.
Exactly.
When we're doing the show.
Make it light up like a slot machine, baby.
So Survivor 47, I think the thing we should probably start with is what people should
expect from us starting from now.
Because again, today we're going to do really an overall perspective into the forest that is Survivor 47.
But we are looking at the trees from here on out.
We are going to be pursuing the same schedule for the preseason that we did starting with Survivor 46 earlier this year. For those that may not remember, what is basically going to happen
is that every day starting tomorrow,
we're going to be releasing interviews
with two Survivor 47 contestants.
Again, I got the chance to talk with these people
days before they went out to play Survivor.
They were in Fiji, in Ponderosa, sitting on their hands.
I was one of the first fresh faces
that got the chance to talk to you,
and it was a very, very great time.
I really enjoyed this cast overall, as we'll get into.
And so every day, we will present those interviews to you,
as well as provide some commentary from Rob and myself.
And so that's going to be starting tomorrow.
Starting tomorrow.
Nine straight days of Survivor previews are coming your way.
It's,
it's two a days.
They do those in the NFL.
We'll talk about that a little bit as well,
but nine straight days of survivor interviews coming your way with full
preview,
wrap around the discussion from Mike and I starting on Thursday of this
week,
going all the way,
I think to September 15th,
13th.
So it'll be the,
what is math?
Okay,
exactly.
What is math anyway?
But yeah,
so that's what we'll be doing.
This will now be in both audio form and podcasts and video form over on the
Rob has a website,
YouTube channel as well.
And on the other side of things,
I write for,
you know,
a little,
little paper called aade dot com.
And I'll be presenting written versions of those interviews for the sake of variety, which is not the pape I write for.
I will. Exactly. I'll be starting with a different tribe just to kind of like work our way from different sides and then meet in the middle and then pass like two ships in the night so if you want to get your your big info dump as early as you can about who all these people are
make sure you're tuned into parade.com i've got a lot of other stuff coming out as well actually
in about 45 minutes i have a compilation of everyone's hot take i asked everyone in the
preseason what is your hottest survivor take your most controversial opinion put them all in one big
piece i know that was a big hit over in survivor 46.
So I did the same thing for 47.
So lots of things in drips and drabs coming out through the off season as
well.
But yeah,
to your point,
we are going straight.
No,
a Lyle style.
We are sprinting through nine days because yeah,
it's one of the shortest off seasons ever.
Rob only two weeks until the premiere nine days.
And we will be giving you you two castaways a day.
I say, why don't we go do them,
drop them in alphabetical order, Mike?
Yeah, that's a good idea.
And they will be organized by tribe.
All right.
We'll get into that.
I will reveal what the tribes are.
We'll go red first.
We'll go red first.
All right.
So, all right.
So, tomorrow we will have the first two people alphabetically from the red tribe.
All right.
So, Mike, all right.
That's thing number one.
Our preseason schedule plus we'll have also then it's a look, the draft, you know, everything
that you expect here in the RHAP preseason here over these next two weeks.
Yes.
Thing two.
Let's talk about the man,
Rob,
that has been in our eyes and ears ever since he showed up,
surprisingly so on the preview for survivor 47,
which aired at the season 46 finale.
And if you've been watching any CBS television,
he has stayed in your retinas because the one commercial we keep seeing for
survivor 47 is this man telling us that,
you know, don't be afraid for him.
It's going to be a lot worse for him than it is for us.
Let's talk about, in my opinion,
the most famous face to appear in the new era of Survivor podcast legend.
John Lovett is on this season.
OK, yeah, this is very exciting.
John Lovett, one of the founders of Pod Save America, is part of this cast.
A huge surprise to everybody and somebody who we are very much looking forward to see play in November 47.
Yeah. So just as a little bit of a background on the resume on John Lovett,
this is a guy who was a speechwriter for Barack
Obama during his time in the White House, but always fashioned himself kind of a hybrid screenwriter
slash speechwriter. After his time in the White House, he stayed close to it, actually co-creating
a short-lived NBC show called 1600 Penn. Then he started a podcast alongside a couple of other
former speechwriters called what i think
keep keeping it 1600 that's right uh which then developed into following the 2016 election
pod save america which has then grown into just this huge media empire called crooked media he's
also the co-host of his own personal podcast love it or leave it and yeah listen suffice it to say
i experienced a lot of surprises
in the survivor 47 and pre-season interviews and one of them being that john love it is a
freaking survivor fan and he reveals his reasoning why in my interview with him uh which you'll
actually hear shortly after this podcast long story short he was sort of latently coming into
the series i didn't say anything about it public facing because he knew the second he did a bunch
of fans would fill in his DMs being like,
oh, did you get to the part
where Eric gave away the immunity necklace?
And he would incidentally be spoiled
by some of the things he hadn't seen yet.
So he kept it a secret
and hopefully he'll continue to do so in the game as well.
Okay.
Very excited to see John Lovett compete.
I think that he's somebody
who you probably would not expect to be on
survivor.
If you have been following his podcasting over the years,
uh,
I'd say,
uh,
similar to myself does not come across as an outdoorsy type.
Yes,
I believe,
uh,
in the promo,
right?
He talked about how he tried boy Scouts for one day and then he threw up and had to go home.
So listen, he just has to add 25 days onto that
and he won't be eating much.
So maybe that much throw up won't come.
Yeah.
Okay.
So to sort of,
there's a lot of news about John Lovett
appearing in this cast.
We are going to be dropping Mike's interview
with John.
Love it as a special video.
We're going to drop that right after this podcast here today.
Then I believe,
uh,
that he is,
we will,
uh,
then do our commentary on John in the two days coming up.
I believe that's going to be day four.
Yes.
So if you want immediately,
you know,
we're,
we're trying to capture the trend of John love it. The news now being official that he's to be day four. Yes. So if you want immediately, you know, we're trying to capture the trend of John Lovett,
the news now being official that he's a Survivor cast member.
So my interview with him will be dropping right after this.
You don't need to necessarily go anywhere.
Same bat YouTube channel.
But then if you want the formal commentary from Rob and I, you just have to wait until
we get to the second tribe.
I think he's day four or five.
OK, Mike uh what else
is on your list of several things well there's not just one podcaster competing on survivor 47
rob i think it's time we finally talk about the path has been forged for quite some time but now
we can make it official this is new ground for rhap our own asia welch rhap podcaster is a survivor contestant yeah this is
really exciting uh i'm so proud uh for asia that she really wanted to do this and had news to me
i had no idea great attitude about uh you know uh why she wanted to do it and so uh thrilled
for her and i can i i see from the chat i see from uh all the people the great thing about asia
forget the like again we'll see how asia is going to be as a survivor. I could speak to you about Asia, the podcaster. And I think that she's
one of the best people around at, forget forging a new path, forging a connection with the audience.
I think that that is really the secret sauce of podcasting. And I think that that's a skill
that translates in both podcasting and in Survivor, the ability to, you know, create
these connections and bonds. And that's why I feel like that, you know, we've done so many of these
cast previews and I don't know, what is this, like the 28th season of Survivor that I've talked about
here on RHAP. But, you know, people are excited for, oh, this person looks good or I'm excited
to see this returning player
come back. But this, for many of the listeners, I totally get this, that it feels like my friend
is on the season, even if they've never met Asia at one of the events or anything. So
people are really excited. And so I'm thrilled for them. I'm so happy for Asia.
And this is just really exciting to see.
Very, very exciting.
And I totally agree.
You know, I think the great thing about podcasting
and having accessibility to so much media nowadays
is that it does allow you to sort of build a bond,
especially when podcasters choose to be open
about themselves behind a microphone. And Asia, ters choose to be open about themselves uh behind a microphone
and asia through getting to cover so many things under the sun for the past five years as part of
our hap whether it be survivor big brother she is uh one of the big forces behind all the married
at first sight coverage she's covered love is blind as well and so it's awesome because yeah
to your point uh even people that are just
in the community and don't necessarily have that personal touch with asia know her in a certain way
now we get to know her in a very different way and i think that really uh part of her success as
a podcaster is uh sort of like the community uh that she has helped to build inside of rjp her
and jason in terms of what their
coverage has been of Married at First Sight, and her and Mary on Love is Blind. And they built up
a Facebook group of people who, a lot of them, before Asia was on Survivor, they don't watch
Survivor. They don't even know what Survivor is. They're there for those podcasts. And I feel like,
to me, that's like the most successful path that a RHAP podcast
could have where they don't even know who's Rob. What is it? Who's the R? What is this?
Well, listen, yeah, it feels like every year we get the, wait, Rob is on Survivor. And that
counted even more so now with AJ being able to bring in so many new people to Survivor,
even more so now the fact that she's a contestant on it.
bringing in so many new people to Survivor,
even more so now the fact that she's a contestant on it.
So I think she's going to do great.
If anything, I'm worried that people are going to see her as a threat and not see where the flaws are.
And so it'll be interesting to watch her try to navigate
through that potential issue.
Yeah, listen, I will tease a little bit as we'll go through this cast
in just a smidge here
that she definitely has a reputation to her as someone who does know the game.
And she was recognized by at least a couple of people which could work for her or work against
her. I like that tone, Mike. Well, the good news, Rob, bringing it to a very light tone is that
while maybe on paper you look at people like John and Asia and you're like, wow, you know, they're so eloquent.
You know, they're able to express themselves, communicate with anybody.
They're such big threats.
We should take them out for that reason.
fact that the new era has no themes to it where they're kind of catching uh and just sort of uh on purpose theme with the casting a lot of broadcasters this season rob we have an esports
commentator we have a beat reporter for the tennessee titans we have a radio host talking
the baltimore ravens nearly a third of, Rob, have some sort of experience behind a microphone.
Could that have been some sort of like a backdoor theme
that they were trying of media versus social media versus...
I mean, media, as we all know,
their reputation is just sterling right now.
So maybe they were looking at it as a good PR opportunity.
No, I mean, I did ask Jeff about this.
I'll talk about this with a couple other blurbs that we have going.
I did get the chance.
Media masters could be media masters.
I did talk to Jeff about his thoughts on Survivor 47 in an interview that should be out closer to the premiere.
But I did ask about this and he said, quote, it was not planned on our part, and we do evaluate
everything, and we look for commonalities
and things that are different as well,
but I think it's 50% coincidence
and 50% this is what a lot
of young people do. And so he
basically says that part of it
is just the fact that, look, to get on
these shows, you have to be a very
effective communicator. You have to be
a very invigorating storyteller.
And in this case, they are storytellers.
That's what they do. And so
it just kind of winds up being
that a bunch of these people who have that
skill set all are on the season
together. Yeah. Okay. So
look, we'd love to see it.
Yeah, absolutely. And who knows? I mean, listen,
what actually, one cast member is already
coming for Jeff's crown here
as host of Survivor.
Maybe we'll see some other people jockeying to get on the podcast as well
for next season.
Who's coming for Jeff's crown to host Survivor?
We'll get to it in a little bit.
Okay.
But we should also mention that there is also another interesting undercurrent,
only through a few people here, not through nearly several.
But the fall season is upon us, Rob. Another interesting undercurrent, only through a few people here, not through nearly several.
But the fall season is upon us, Rob.
We are about one day away for kickoff from the NFL season, and Survivor's getting into the spirit.
We have a couple people that are linked up with the NFL. Again, a beat reporter for the Tennessee Titans, someone who is a marketing manager for athletes, including many NFL athletes as well.
marketing manager for athletes,
including many NFL athletes as well.
Hell, Rupp, even on the Survivor Instagram page,
they did an entire announcing the lineup in the theme of, you know,
what Key and Peele lampooned back in the day
of announcing who the teams are
during the course of an NFL game.
Can we show that?
Sure, if you want to find the link.
Sam, send me the link let me let's let's look
at that i would like to see that yeah it's very fun it's very fun so did anybody go to the ohio
state university i don't think anyone's from ohio unfortunately this time around though i know uh
saul one of our castaways really likes oklahoma football so he might he might have really leaned
into the curve there,
but yeah,
it's an interesting thing that again,
I think is 100% coincidental,
but serves as sort of this fun connector that actually could serve as some
interesting talking points.
Should those people ever meet up together in the game?
Okay.
All right.
Let me see if I can share this to see what this looks like.
Okay.
We'll get a jump,
jump the gun in terms of like,
uh,
we're going to go through everybody one by one in a minute but uh here we go here's from the instagram from los
angeles point to the camera i'm annika i'm from santa rosa i'm rome from phoenix arizona i'm
caroline of chicago hi i'm kishan and i'm from san francisco i'm asia out of houston texas
i'm kyle's from schweig in michigan i'm tk and i'm from prince george's county maryland I'm Asia out of Houston, Texas. I'm Kyle from Schwoigan, Michigan.
I'm TK and I'm from Prince George's County, Maryland.
I'm Sue from New York.
I'm Rachel and I live in Southfield, Michigan.
I'm Andy out of Buffalo.
I'm Sam. I'm from Chicago, Illinois.
Gabe, Baltimore City.
Oh, he got it.
I'm Genevieve Muschelak from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
My name is Gianna
out of Hawaii.
Hi, I'm Saul.
I'm from Dell City, Oklahoma.
And now I live in
Western Connecticut.
I'm Jean
and I'm from
Manahawken, New Jersey.
I'm Sierra
and I'm from Delaware.
What was that
final emoji like
there you go, Mike.
Where's Tony Romo?
Yeah, well, if you just hear a horse
voice wailing in the background, that's probably
Tony Romo at this point that
I'm intrigued to see what the prompt
was for that because it seems like a
lot of people were just told say who you are
and where you're from and then strike like a gift
worthy pose, which I would say about two thirds of them did like it's the opening credits of big
brother exactly or like you're for most of you you're standing back to back with your non-existent
amazing race partner but uh still very fun and gets a good energy going for the cast okay look
it's the fall season uh nfl on cbs maybe they're going for some synergy when they have to do all those promos like in the middle of the game.
Yeah.
Wednesday night on Survivor.
You know, I just I just want that gif of Sue.
Just that sound clip.
Can that be the only one that gets isolated and used in the promos?
It's just like Wednesday on Survivor.
Every single time.
Mm hmm.
Why not?
All right.
Why not?
Mike.
All right.
What else?
So we've teased a lot of cast stuff, Rob,
but how about some exclusives previewing the season
that's upon us in but a fortnight?
What do you got, Mike?
And not the game that Rome likes to comment on.
So got a few teases from my interview
with the Probst Master General.
One, this is something certainly that was speculated,
but Jeff confirmed to me in our
interview warm up that gavel the auction is back for season 47 okay bring it back so this was
something that obviously sold it was uh well for how much money money back guarantee there uh so
obviously something that came back to a lot of acclaim for the first time in 15 seasons in season
45 jeff has said said that just due to
resources, he wants to save it for sort of
a once per cycle type of thing.
So it looks like Survivor 47 is
reaping the rewards quite literally this season.
Okay. All right. Auction is
back. We have to wait a very long time
from the previous auction. Only
one year. Exactly.
Let's move into our next item here,
which we will see the fruits up,
even if the auction is coming on later in the season.
This is something we're going to be seeing in the premiere, Rob,
because as we know, the new era is always retooling.
They're always trying some new things
to just spring surprises on these castaways
to truly see if they can dance
as the floor changes underneath them.
And listen, we had a big
version of Sweat vs. Savvy
last season with how everything
led to one of the many downfalls
of Janu Jelinski smashing
the hourglass. It seems
like for now that might be the finale
of Sweat vs. Savvy.
The Sweat finale?
The Sweat finale, but before we even knew it.
Jelinski broke the hourglass and he broke
sweat and savvy he is a legend to be fair i think after a bunch of millions of people including
future contestants saw that we don't want to give them any ideas to smash more props so they say
let's take away the hourglass right now okay so we have a new thing that's uh replacing sweat and
savvy so what jeff teased to me was that instead of sweat
versus savvy the premiere is going to feature a new quote-unquote test in order for tribes to earn
camp supplies and what he tells me is quote quote it's a little bit of indiana jones and the
pressure's on you to either come back as a hero or come back and have to describe that you failed so just reading between the lines it sounds a little bit like uh much like we saw in 45 one or
two people will probably be sent from the losing tribes to get another chance to compete for their
supplies we'll see if one or both of them or zero indiana jones yeah which is interesting right so
we shall see we haven't seen really the motif from the
art department going on for this season. Maybe
we're going to get a huge archaeological vibe from it.
People will look at the set and say it belongs in a museum.
Could be.
All right. So
interesting. Nobody's
going to miss Sweat and Savvy. With all due respect,
nobody is going to be
like, oh man, bring back Sweat and Savvy.
Yeah, and who knows? Maybe it just needs a little bit of time in the cooler before it gets brought back to warm up but
yeah after six seasons listen we're in the mood to maybe change things up for survivor 47 and so
that's apparently what we're going to get in the premiere it's still the new era it's just the
newer era there we go that's what it truly feels You know, 45 and 46 does kind of feel like a step in the new era where we went to 90 minute episodes.
I think a lot of people feel that those two seasons are some of the best seasons the new era has had to offer.
And so it'll be really interesting to see something.
I certainly ask the contestants as well is how much thinking about those two very epic seasons will inform the gameplay and moving forward.
thinking about those two very epic seasons will inform the gameplay and moving forward and whether 47 will keep the momentum going or if there'll be something that calls more back to you know the
early days of the new era okay all right mike what else i got one more thing for you it's a little
bit of a tease but i like to do this in my interviews with jeff i like to ask what is the
theme of the season not quite literally but if you could assign a theme, Jeff, to Survivor 47, what would it be?
And he told me it was, quote, ever shifting power.
Hmm. Ever shifting power.
So he basically implied to me that it seems to be a situation where nearly every episode,
it seemed like those that you did not
expect in power were in power all of a
sudden and vice versa, which is
music to all of our ears. I think a lot
like all the seasons of the new era.
I mean, to be fair,
maybe not the case with like Survivor 45
until the final seven.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. And also
last thing, I guess number seven and a half as
well, because this will come into play with the interviews.
I know a lot of people were asking about timing for when survivor 47
filmed.
And this will come into play as I talk with these people,
just so everyone knows these people talked with me after the anti
penultimate episode of a season of 46,
they had seen up through the Tiffany boot,
but they had not seen the Venus boot.
And suffice it to say,
there's a lot of 46 on their minds
from obviously the,
what have you done for me lately
with people turning on their number ones
and not playing their idols,
but also looking more at just the landscape in general
and using it to inform their own game.
Okay.
So it's a new year.
You know what that means?
Setting big goals. Maybe you promised yourself you're going to hit the gym every day, or maybe you said you're going to learn Okay. of those goals could be automatic. That's where Acorns comes in. to talk about. All right, 18 people.
And let us start.
This is going to be the order
that we're going to be releasing
the interviews as well,
just to make it nice and convenient.
Let's start with the Lavo tribe.
And fittingly, they are our red tribe.
And we will start just happenstance.
You know, the Phoenicians
did this to us.
Alphabetically, sure.
Alphabetically, we're gonna start
with a young woman by the name of Asia
Welsh Asia is 32
years old from Houston Texas
is an IT consultant and
as we've talked about voluminously before
an RHAP podcaster
yes okay
we set up Asia
pretty well
she's here check out the cast photo.
Okay.
And we'll get into,
it's a look coming up in the next couple of weeks,
but you know,
how exciting is this?
Yeah.
And for those that are waiting for the Asia interview to that point,
first thing tomorrow,
you're going to hear from her.
So very exciting.
Well,
I talk much more about my reaction,
both in the moment and earlier when I found out Asia was on the cast.
But yeah, first blind side of the season for me, Rob,
when it came to seeing this lovely face in front of me over Zoom.
Okay. All right.
Mike, then after Asia, we've got...
We're going up north from Texas all the way to Winnipeg, Manitoba.
First Manitoba castaway, I believe, in Survivor history.
This is Genevieve Mushaluk.
Genevieve is 33 years old and she is a corporate lawyer, though she tells me she will not be
telling anybody else that on the island.
Well, they just saw Survivor 45.
That was a big deal.
Yeah, with three lawyers.
I think people are going to be sniffing out the secret lawyers.
And so Genevieve is someone who
talks about how she grew up in this big Ukrainian
family that has allowed her
the opportunity to talk with all different
types of people. And
she has some big plans about what
she's going to do with Beware Advantages,
namely having other people find
it and maybe doing some stuff to prevent
them from accomplishing the tasks to
let their idol become fully power. A saboteur
perhaps. A saboteur, exactly.
Okay. Who else
we got? Next up,
Kishan Patel.
Kishan is 28 years old from
San Francisco and he is an
ER doctor. Okay.
Alright. A throwback
to was Peter
Bagenstos, the ER doctor.
Yeah, there we go.
So the emergence of...
Oh, I mean, if he could play on a returnee season with John Lovett,
that'd be something, right?
Yeah, exactly.
Do I know you from somewhere?
Yeah.
You look so familiar.
I think I need to work with you for whatever reason.
Or do I work for you?
But Keyshawn is somebody who thrives in
you know the chaos that comes with the day-to-day of triaging in the er and loves that with survivor
as well and i think similarly prides himself on prioritization and hopes to bring the the positives
of making order out of disorder onto the island as well okay Okay. There's Kashan. All right.
Let's move next into Rome Cooney.
Rome is one of these many broadcasters that we have mentioned before.
Rome is 30 years old from Phoenix and he is an e-sports commentator.
Okay.
This is very exciting to have an e-sports commentator here that he is the
Fortnite caller.
He calls Fortnite.
He calls Rocket League as well.
Rome is somebody who...
My kids are going to be so excited.
Yeah, I mean, listen,
when Rome does things,
he commits intensely.
He goes full tilt.
Rome watched every single season
of Survivor in a year.
Wow.
A year.
I mean, I did too, but maybe after a much more extended
period of time so rome talks all about his newfound love of the game and that's all i'm saying and rob
rome is the guy that's uh coming for a little bit of jeff's wig at this point that he is already
ready to step into that hosting role if and when Jeff decides to step down.
So his plan is go on Survivor and steal Jeff's job?
Well, a little bit more as well, considering that in his bio.
Big mistake.
You shouldn't have done that.
Well, when asked why would he be the sole survivor, he says, I will play my idols.
I will win at least four individual immunity challenges.
So Rome is certainly calling
his shot we will see if his empire will succeed or if we'll only be thinking about him in a day
okay good job all right last two members of the lavo tribe here solomon sol ye sol is 43 years
old from norwalk connecticut one hometown of mike. And he is a medical device salesperson who specializes in deep brain stimulation.
Well, that sounds intense.
Well, Saul is working in sales primarily from that perspective.
Saul also has a history in poker as well.
So suffice it to say, he's quite literally brainy when it comes to this game.
OK. All right. Hopefully at Tribal Council, they
don't call Saul.
Exactly.
Keep that. Send it to voicemail.
Hopefully no trips in the pre-merge
for Saul here, though he brings plenty
of Saul power to light up those
torches should the opportunity come.
Final member of the Lavo tribe,
Teenie Chirichio.
Tini is 24 years old from Manahawken, New Jersey. She is a freelance writer, had actually quit her job prior to coming out to Survivor. But Tini is someone who really hangs her hat on being a
super duper fan of Survivor to the point, Rob, where she ended up playing in an LRG, Survivor
Gettysburg, only a short
time before playing the game proper.
Check out that jacket. Angelina would
really be eyeing that from the jump.
Yes, though I don't know how teeny
it would be on her.
Yeah. Okay.
Very excited to see another big
fan out there on Survivor.
Yes, very exciting. And teeny,
you know, despite being a super duper
fan she admits she's not really a numbers person but she makes up for it wholesale when it comes
to her social game yeah okay all right that's the red tribe that is the red tribe we move on
to the yellow tribe gata and we got to some people to show you here, Rob. Starting with, I would say if you run in RHAP circles,
Asia Welch, definitely number one notable name with a bullet.
But this guy might come second.
Andy Rueta, 31 years old from Brooklyn.
He is an AI assistant researcher.
So I hope he's been enjoying Ainsley so far in the Big Brother house.
But Rob, fans of RHAP might more colloquially know him as Baby Andy.
Yeah, just one of the nicest guys ever. He's been a longtime patron of RHAP for many, many years,
gotten the chance to speak with Andy on our various call-in shows. So, you know, I am so proud when I see these people
who follow this show that we all love
and then get to see their dream come true
of being one of the people on the show.
It never gets old.
And it's just like, this is a very exciting season
for me to see so many of these people
that I know love the show go out there.
And I hope that they all don't hate each other's guts
after the show's over.
Otherwise, the podcast games are going to be real awkward.
And don't say, boy, I wish I never wasted my time
with this podcast for all these years.
But I hope that they all have a very nice experience listen it's the new era i would
say five times out of six they're gonna have a very nice time so far but yeah andy huge somebody's
gotta do good right yeah exactly a huge not only survivor superfan but reality tv superfan get a
couple of uh reality star and international survivor name drops over the course of our
interview it's been a long time coming for and. He made it to casting finals the year before,
only to not make it onto 45. And now he gets his chance in 47. And he is ready to charm and
disarm, as he coined to me. Yeah. All right. He's ready for his look, I think.
Absolutely. Yeah. Well, no thumbs, baby, Andy.
Oh, yeah. Hiding them. He knew what he was doing. He understood the assignment.
Couldn't find those thumbs with a microscope.
Well, let's move on to Anika. Anika Dar. Anika is 26 from L.A. She is a marketing manager.
About seven years ago, Rob, Anika and her family lost everything in the Tubbs wildfire that struck California.
And Annika used that as an experience to let her realize how much deprivation can make or break a person.
And so for her, she is ready to take this game head on. Yeah.
Such a heartbreaking story.
Those wildfires are no joke.
From my time living out in California.
You know, they just like,
it happened so fast
and there's very little warning.
And so a terrible story.
Yeah.
But Annika has been able
to emerge successful from all that.
And she admits to me,
Rob, in the preseason,
that in her day to day,
she's used to calling the shots.
And we'll see if she's calling the shots in the dark on the island. Okay. All right. Orday she's used to calling the shots and we'll see if she's
calling the shots in the dark on the island okay all right or is rome gonna do that yeah we'll see
it's a shot in the dark from downtown
next up it's a guy we talked about earlier in this podcast it is johnett, 42 years old, from L.A., podcast host, former Obama speechwriter, TV writer, etc.
As we mentioned, a secret fan of Survivor.
He coins the show really nicely as, quote, a strange experiment in deprivation and democracy.
Just, you know, you get what you pay for here in John Lovett.
His bio is already giving so much great stuff.
He calls himself a gay Larry David.
And then when asked,
what's something
that we wouldn't know about you
from looking at you?
He says, quote,
astronaut Buzz Aldrin
almost punched me in the face.
OK, God,
sure, that's a good story.
Look, the thing about John
is he's going to have
a lot of good stories.
And, you know,
those are worth their weight in gold.
I do feel like maybe more so more so though in the old era,
like I feel like that somebody who could really like spin a yarn
and entertain everybody,
I feel like that that skill was more valued
and you had so much downtime in the old era.
Basically, in the new era,
that they're going to try to just take all the stuff from 39 days
and cram it into 26.
So there's very few days
where you're just sitting around
with nothing to do.
So let's see how valuable
a storyteller like this
ends up being for players
in the new era.
It's going to be fascinating.
And before we have another
five-hour endurance challenge
where John is able to regale them all
with stories about hobnobbing with the rich and famous yeah all right moving forward next up on
the gata tribe rachel lamont rachel is 34 years old from southfield michigan and she is a graphic
designer and rob this is someone who i have a little bit of history with because a year ago,
one season ago,
Rachel was out in the islands of Fiji.
Once again, she was our female alternate for survivor 46,
46.
Okay.
So Rachel,
it was a quick turnaround for her.
She's coming back on an idol and gotten voted out with it.
Yeah,
exactly.
But she knows now this is her season.
She has kind of learned from,
you know, this alternate universe
of where she could have been
to hopefully inform the reality
that she is in now.
Though, to your point
about that idol, Rob,
she does tell me that
she feels idols and advantages
of the new era, quote,
set you up to fail.
Yeah, that's about right.
That is true.
No lies detected.
No lies detected.
Yeah. All right. next up here sam failing hopefully
not failing in this game sam is 24 years old from nashville tennessee and this is a job i have
alluded to a couple times on this podcast sam is a beat reporter for the tennessee titans so
he has had a pretty uh harried preseason in and of itself. Yes. Maybe reporting on more than a few beats for the Tennessee Titans this year.
Yes, exactly.
So we shall see if his game will be as delicious as mayonnaise and coffee.
OK, so what else about Sam, Mike?
So Sam, due to his job, professes himself, quote,
a professional ego stroker
that he feels like his day-to-day existence
of basically buttering up to,
you know, maybe some...
Or mayoing up.
Exactly.
Thinking highly of themselves,
athletes, coaches, etc.
has made him a natural for this game.
He's a big fan of Survivor.
And true to his work in athletics,
he also has a very fiery competitive spirit as well.
Okay, looking forward to seeing it.
All right, final member of the Gata tribe,
Sierra Wright.
Sierra is 27 years old from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
She is a nurse,
but that comes at the end of a bunch of different jobs
that she has worked over her life,
including she went to school initially for some.
We've heard this before. Rob broadcast journalism had some experience there.
She also competed on American Idol, has competed in pageants.
I believe she won Miss Teen Delaware and competed in Miss Teen USA a couple of times.
So Sierra is somebody that despite being, you know you know less than 30 has worked a bunch of
different jobs in her life okay all right mike that's the the blue tribe the yellow tribe oh
i'm sorry i'm sorry uh they uh you blew your load there rob they look good in yellow like a minion
exactly okay they are phenomenal they are spectacular. All right. All right. Let's talk about Tuku.
Tuku for school.
Yes, exactly.
Even though it's the first day of school for a lot of kids out there this week.
Here we're talking about Tuku, our last tribe, our blue tribe.
And we are starting with Caroline.
Caroline Vidmar.
Caroline is 27 years old from Chicago.
At the time that she was playing Survivor, she just graduated with her MBA
and she was on her way back
to her job as a strategy consultant.
Okay, a strategy consultant.
That sounds interesting.
Yeah, I mean, it's a job that
we'll see how applicable it is to Survivor.
Her job is basically advising Fortune 500 companies
on what to do with their marketing,
their tactics, etc.
She should advise the Fortune 501 company.
Like, you want to make the cut, don't you?
Hire me.
You can be the 501, thanks to me.
You're sitting with your nose pressed up against the glass.
I can get you in the door.
With VidMar, you can go vidfar.
With VidMar, you can go VidFar.
And what's interesting is that Caroline admits that she admires the bluntness of contestants in the past
like Tori and Emily from season 45.
Okay.
So if she is able to channel any of that,
I think we're in for a good time with Caroline.
Us, certainly.
I'm not sure about the approach to the game,
but I can't wait to see it.
Gabe Ortiz.
Gabe is 26 years old
from Baltimore.
He has worked a couple of jobs
prior to coming out
to Survivor.
He is a radio show host,
primarily hosting a talk show
about the Baltimore Ravens,
who maybe we'll have
some interesting things
to talk about with Sam
with regards to acquired players.
I know some great guests for you, Gabe. Yeah, exactly. And Gabe also was working on a mayoral campaign, was hired as the comms director in a political campaign prior to coming
out to a survivor. Of course, he is not going to tell anybody this. He is going to say that he is
a barback. But Rob, people might remember,id's the first person we saw in that survivor 47 promo saying that he wanted to make the mount rushmore of the new era we got
through the whole summer of survivor we didn't do the who's on the new era mount rushmore mike
uh well rob there's always next summer suffice it to say i did 50 podcasts gabe we'll see gabe if
you can make it but he talks up a lot in both his preseason stuff
in my interview with him and his bio
about how he wants to make a name for himself.
And he also wants to play as, quote,
a reclamation of the survivor that we all fell in love with
back in the day, or in Rome's case, a year ago.
That he wants to be a player who pens a love letter
to survivor days of
your.
Okay.
Well,
loved ones letter.
Well,
we'll see once he gets an actual one at the sanctuary where good things
happen.
Okay.
All right.
Who else is on this tribe?
Kyle Ostwald.
No,
do not put on your glasses.
That is not Ian Rosenberger.
This is Kyle.
Kyle is 31 years old from Cheboygan, Michigan. Kyle is a construction worker and a residential contractor.
OK, Kyle seems like that he's going to be the vibes guy.
Yeah, Kyle, he's an absolute sweetheart. This is a guy who has been so familiarly focused.
He is someone who told me that the first time he ever left his wife for a significant portion of time was flying out to L.A. for casting finals.
He and his wife traveled around in a van together for six years.
But Kyle is making this a bit of a business trip.
He wants to bring money home to secure the future of his wife, his daughter and his soon to be son.
And he's willing to to quote a previous contestant,
get that money, baby, at any cost.
Got that van life.
Yeah, living that van life.
I mean, listen, we saw Liz bring the RV life
into the new era,
so maybe we can have a great big convoy
going on with these two.
Okay.
Convoy's not super fun, from what I hear.
Well, let's move on to somebody who is super fun. Rob, Sue Smay.
Sue is 59 years old from Putnam Valley, New York.
And later in life, Sue decides that she is going to have a change in not only career, but altitude.
She decides to become a pilot and now owns and operates her own flight school.
Wow. That's exciting sue is
somebody that can show much like julian 45 that like you can take life by the horns and and you
know guide it wherever you want to go no matter where you might be uh and she's hoping that the
vibes that she's giving off allows her to sort of be presented as did see someone who's there
just for a good time i will say we got the preseason perceptions
of their fellow castaways
and Sue was a big standout. A lot
of people love Sue, which
is what Sue wants to hear, Rob, because she
said to me that she is the female
Tony. The female Tony?
Tony with an I, baby.
Okay. Alright, I'm
here for it. Sure.
Next up,
Tiana Hallams.
Uh,
Tiana is 27 years old from Aiea,
Hawaii.
She is the first native Hawaiian survivor contestant.
Rob,
look at this two in one year between big brother and survivor.
Okay.
Uh,
we'll see,
uh,
if on Thursday,
uh,
how many active Hawaiians will be on CBS.
And we'll see what Tiana how far she goes when
it comes to this game. Should also
mention because it was officially
said in Tiana's Meet the
Castaway video, Tiana
was the female alternate for season
45. Oh, okay.
Yeah. So very interesting
again, looking at that alternate universe, especially
with a lot of discourse around
certain people leaving the game under unconventional means.
Hawaii was the 50th state.
Story kind of writes itself for a returnee appearance.
There we go.
Exactly.
She could be the 50th star on that cast of stars.
Tiana is a flight attendant
and is really hoping that that sort of
aloha laid back spirit,
quite literally putting the lay over these castaways is the perfect guise for her to be able to play a cutthroat game behind the scenes and take home the W.
Mm hmm.
OK.
All right.
So there you go.
Tiana.
Last but certainly not least, Taryn, also known as TK Foster. Hoping to lay down that TKO on the competition.
TK is 31 years old from Upper Marlborough, Maryland, and he is an athlete marketing manager.
He has this really compelling story where he was on the path to playing football in
high school, and then his health took a sudden turn for the worse.
It turns out he was diagnosed with this surprise kidney disease that nearly took his life doctors told him he couldn't play football from
there on out so instead he decided to uh still stay within the inner circle if you will and
currently now manages brand deals with nfl athletes okay all right there you go mike uh 18 players
here competing in Survivor 47.
Yeah, and we are just getting started with that.
Again, we are going to have plenty to talk about with these people.
That was just a little few-line bio.
We're going to take a much bigger deep dive
into these castaways.
Tomorrow, we're going to be starting
with the Lavo tribe, with Asia and Genevieve.
And over on Parade.com,
I'm going to be starting with the Tuku.
Oh, no, I'm going to be starting with the tuku oh no I'm starting with the gata tribe my apologies with Andy and Anika so we will give you anything and everything you
need to know we are your one-stop shop for all things survivor 47 as we make this uh very exciting
yet hectic dash to September 18th when survivor 47 is on our screens okay so very exciting and
I'm really looking forward to getting into everybody.
We're going to have these two podcasts
or two contestants,
a podcast series coming out
nine days in a row.
We did, Mike just got done
with the Survivor Wishlist
and that was only Monday to Friday.
This is weekends too.
We're going to have nine days in a row.
The listeners have said
many times over the years
they love a daily podcast series.
And so we're very excited to be dropping that on you.
So be on the lookout for tomorrow, Asia and Genevieve.
And then we will be dropping a one-off later on,
right after this podcast.
Right after this.
The John Lovett interview is going to be up today.
So be on the lookout for that on our
youtube channel at rob is a website.com slash youtube okay mike we've got a big event coming up
uh rob is a podcast uh that look the way we do things is that for our patrons i'll do anything
for them okay one of the things we do...
Especially when they show up on Survivor
and represent the brand.
That too.
Okay?
All right.
They
got a link
a couple of weeks ago
for our live show
in New York City.
They got a promo code too.
Okay?
Now that they went ahead and bought their tickets
we are about to open it up to the gen pop okay if you want to be there with us on october 16th
head on over to robin's website.com slash nyc 47 for tickets to our live show. October 16th coming up. I believe it's going to be week
four, week five. It should be a good one coming up. We'll do a live show, talk to, we'll watch
the episode, interview a bunch of alumni on the stage. Always a great time. Rob's website.com slash NYC 47. Then over on
Patreon, I told you we give you early access to the tickets and the patron discount link. In addition,
we do a lot of exclusive content for the patrons as well, including that Mike and I
just on Monday night

AI simulation of
the Survivor 50 wishlist

We've simulated
that season. That is up
on Patreon.
Plus, access to our weekly content

and Discord communities
and much more.
That's over on
robbizwebsite.com
slash patron.
All right, Mike,
we are set up
and ready to go.
Hope everybody is
as geeked as we are.
Oh, well,
we're geeks getting geeked
right now, Rob.
I am thrilled
getting to, you know,
re-litigate
quite literally with Genevieve
some of these conversations
that I had
a few months back.
It just, it really re-excited me
with this cast.
I think it's a really fun group
with a great energy
and I'm really excited
for everyone to get to know them
as well.
And I'm excited, Rob,
to get your opinions
on them too.
And then starting tomorrow,
we're going to get into
the deep dive
on each and every one
of these 18 people
before we set them loose
on the beaches of Fiji
and see what happens.
So I'm pumped beyond belief.
We'll listen to them together
and then find out how Mike and I think
these new players are going to fare in Survivor 47.
Mike, anything else for you?
Well, of course, again, on parade.com,
I've gotten the written version of this stuff.
Actually, right now, three o'clock at the time
I'm saying this,
I just released the hot take compilation.
All these Survivor 47
players giving out their hot takes.
You know you want to check
it out. And then, of course, I'm covering
Big Brother, doing Weekly Exopress there
as well as for the challenge.
I can also say that a little
podcast called The B&B will be
back for Survivor 47.
So myself and Liana will get together
probably in a week's time because again
the season is coming up on us soon very excited for another season full of fun and games just
excited for another season of survivor you know it really kept my appetite up getting to snack on
the wish list this summer but rob i'm truly thrilled for what you're going to to you know
provide for us on the show it's going to provide for us over the next few months to bring us through
to the end of 2024 yeah can't wait to get started on it.
And for all of you, you can get started by checking out John Lovett's interview with Mike
premiering live here on our YouTube channel. And if you're listening to this in the archives,
you can check that out at robswebsite.com slash YouTube. Thank you so much for joining us. Take
care, everybody. Have a good one. Bye.
