Hey everybody. What's going on? Rob Sesterino back with a double exit interview here today. And we've got a lot to talk about here with two huge players from the season going out last night. We're going to talk with Rick Devons and, of course, the legend Surrey Fields in one exit interview. Of course, you could watch both of these on our YouTube channel. We did a really interesting Survivor. Know It all. A lot of feedback if people were Team Stephen or Team Rob. And
I had a great debate with my great friend, Stephen, about all things Survivor 50, check that out.
Plus, Drew Bicill later in the day on Thursday.
But let's get right into this and let's bring in my interview with Rick.
All right, we are here with The Man of Action.
It's Rick Devin.
Who doesn't love Rick Devons?
Rick, how are you?
What's up, Rob?
It's great to see you, brother.
Great to see you, too.
And Rick, congratulations on such a fun run.
and one where I really have been very happy to see you get all sorts of praise and accolades for your game and your attitude throughout the entire season.
So it was really cool to watch.
My question for you, as somebody who aspires to be having more fun, how hard was it to keep that disposition going in Survivor 50?
In many circumstances when I think that there was a lot of adversity coming your way.
way. It's an interesting thing because I do think it speaks to something very specific to me as a person,
which is early in the game, easy to have fun. Christian's there with me. Emily's there with me.
Ceri, who I, you know, we were very tight for such a long time until she had to pick aside.
Those people are easy to have fun with. And so is everyone else, including Joe, like Joe and I had a
lot of fun early in the game. But then late in the game, when I'm losing those people and facing, again,
what you're talking about, that adversity. If I'm ostracized or you're trying to make me feel
like the odd man out, like, I just want you, I want to shove how much fun I'm having right in
your face. Like, I want you to know that you are not affecting me at all. And it just feeds me.
And so in a weird way, the tougher it got, the more fun I was having, because, ha, ha, you're trying to
make me feel like I'm on the outs. But I'm actually upsetting you more than you're upsetting me.
and that just makes me happy.
Rick, the rivalry with Joe was so interesting.
And I think that from a place where that you two have so much in common, you know,
I don't mean that jokingly.
I mean that you are both incredible family men, both incredible dads, and you're doing it for your family.
But it's so interesting that this rivalry really stems from a place of,
I have this one worldview of how Survivor is played,
and Joe has this other worldview of how Survivor is played,
and you two just couldn't get on the same page in terms of how you look at Survivor,
despite having so many other things in common, probably outside of the game.
Could you talk a little bit about, from your experience,
what it was like to play with Joe?
Yeah, and I'll preface it by saying, I'm good with Joe.
Like, I love Joe.
I would let Joe babysit my kids in a heartbeat.
I'm looking forward to our kids, hopefully playing in the pool together at the finale, right?
Like, we've spent messages back and forth this season.
But I do think, I remember a very early conversation.
It might have been day one or day two that Emily and I are walking with Joe.
And I said, Joe, like, I know that you're real straight lace and I'm kind of crazy.
Like, I would love to be your crazy guy, like loyal to you, but like able to do my thing.
And he responded and he went off.
And I looked at Emily and I said, I don't think he, like, he.
liked that. She was like, no, he did not like that. I was like, okay. And so now looking back on
the season, I think it's a shame because I think my record shows super loyal player. Yeah.
Like in season 38, went down with David Wright, like never going to go against him. This season
voted with Emily twice, even in a re-vote, you know, never going against Christian. I think that's
the type of thing Joe can appreciate. But when I watched him on 50, he was very upset if you
don't tell him about your advantage, right?
If you're supposed to be working together.
Where in my mind, loyalty is, I'm looking out for you.
I've got your best interest at heart, but I didn't tell Emily and Ceree, we planted a fake
because they don't need to know about that.
It doesn't affect them, right?
Like, I think it's good to have secrets in the game.
I wouldn't have told Christian if he wasn't a part of it.
Like, I'm fine with keeping my secrets.
So I think that that's really kind of gameplay where we're at.
And then once that bridge was burned after that silly argument, that that ridiculous argument where it was me playing poorly and lying to him and getting caught in a lie and him in my opinion just overreacting to that.
Like, fine to have an reaction, a reaction, but I just thought it was too much.
And then I thought we had kind of buried it to an extent.
It was still in the back of my mind, too.
I don't want to act like it's just Joe.
But like I would have voted out Joe and kept Genevieve if I thought.
it was still a real, a real beef.
And so, yeah, I just think I could never get back in his good graces.
And then as time went on, I started doing more crazy, devious gameplay things.
And that just re, you know, that just made his feelings about it even stronger that
entrenched him in that view.
So we just couldn't get on the same page.
Yeah, I thought it was just such an interesting rivalry where I think that it was not ever a case of good versus evil,
but a case of lawful good versus chaotic good.
And they're just not being any in between those two things.
You had such an interesting relationship and ride with Aubrey all through this season.
Of course, you both come from the edge of extinction.
And it seemed like that there was this on again, off again, working relationship.
But there seems like that there was a real friendship there the whole way through.
What was it like for you to go through this game with Aubrey?
It's really a great question because I had no intention of really working with Aubrey when I came into the game.
I respected her a lot from Edge of Extinction, but we only spent like three days together, and that was on the edge of extinction.
And so I had not really planned on doing much with her until First Christian sends her the idol on my behalf.
I take credit for that.
And it's like, okay, well, now we're kind of tied to Aubrey.
But still not.
it was when I literally got tied to Aubrey.
And we were in that duo that I was all in.
I just, I'm so stupid that way.
Like, if I play pickup basketball with you, you're my best friend.
And so the fact that we competed together and excelled expectations made me really want to play
with her.
And I think, you know, ultimately watching it back, I felt that way more strongly than she did,
obviously.
And she's just a better player looking after herself, whereas I get entrenched in this loyalty
stuff.
But it was a real gift to play with her.
Like I consider her a real friend now because of this season and because we had those moments.
And like I felt like I saved her going for my fake idol.
You know, who knows now?
There's a lot of revisionist history.
I still don't know if that actually saved us.
And then I honestly felt like I saved her again when I threw Steph and company under the bus on the Mr.
Beast Idol night.
So I felt like I had done a lot for Aubrey.
and out there I felt like she was doing more for me watching it back.
I'm like, oh, she was tattling on me and throwing me under the bus a little bit.
But that's good gameplay on her part.
I want to go back to that Mr. Beast night.
And from our perspective, it was unclear, at least to me,
if you were indeed going home that night
or if Stephanie was going to be the plan all along.
Based off of what you knew in the time in the game,
were you going out that night?
I felt like going into that tribal, I was the one going out.
And then I felt in my mind that I had turned the tables, that Steph was going to go out.
Again, I don't trust people's revisionist history, so I'll never know the answer to this.
But I really just, it made no sense to me that Surrey and Tiff and Emily and Aubrey and Rizzo would want me out.
And the Aussie, too, when I'm a heat-seeking missile for Steph, Joe, and Jonathan,
where clearly they're going to be, I'm going to be their big target.
It's like, why would you get rid of me who's been totally honest in this while throwing around,
you know, Ozzy, I was comfortable getting rid of you.
Rizzo, I put your name up where Steph's going, oh, I never did any of it.
It's like, it didn't make any sense to me that they would get rid of me and keep Steph.
I thought I'd done enough.
That being said, I thought the next day would be me.
So it was worth it to do the flip to get that idle.
And I wasn't sure of it.
You know, so it was still like, and of course.
Of course, you know, our friend Jimmy, I wanted that Mr. Beast moment. I wanted it bad, Rob.
Yeah.
But I actually felt in the moment that I had flipped the script.
What was your son Jack's reaction to the Mr. Beasts? Did he know ahead of time about this?
Or did he see it for the first time on the screen and see Mr. Beast show up and you being involved?
No. Both Jack and Juju, we didn't tell them anything because that's just too much for young kids.
You can't trust them.
First in the preseason preview. Yeah, exactly.
they see Mr. Beast is going to be on the season.
Wow.
And then all season, it's like, I hope Dad makes it to the Mr. Beast episode.
So when it happened, they're just going nuts.
And then I didn't tell them whether I hit the coin or not.
So they're freaking out like, this is going to be the end of dad.
And it's because of us.
And then that coin flip hit.
And we're just watching alone in our living room, you know, not a big watch party or anything.
They jumped up.
They're hugging.
I mean, you know how it is, Rob.
It was probably how you felt.
And it wasn't even me.
When your kids got to meet Mr. Beast.
And that was the next question is, when are we going to hang out with your friend Jimmy?
And it's like, well, hopefully someday.
Hopefully someday.
It was amazing.
So I want to go back to the previous vote, this split tribal council.
And you talk about your loyalty and you get locked in.
And there you are with Emily.
You even vote for Surrey on the revote also, which, of course, very noble of you two of the
but was there no coming back?
Do you think after you wrote Seri's name down twice?
after that from the previous vote?
So this goes into a big gameplay discussion.
I think perfect voting records
are the most overrated, stupid thing in the world.
Nice.
So many people change their vote
just to be on the right side of the vote.
And everyone in the game knows that.
Like, if I go back to camp and say,
Sri, I, you know, I didn't vote for you the second time.
Sri's not going to go, oh, come here.
No, she's still going to be like $2 in a bag of chips.
You know, that's all it gets me.
whereas what the jury sees is like, wow, Devons is really loyal to Emily.
And of course, Emily, who's going to the jury, is really into it.
Was that my thought process?
No.
My thought process is Emily's my girl.
I'm riding with Emily.
Like, I'm a stupid loyal player.
But I actually think that you get a lot more credit from the jury for staying loyal
than you get from the people in the game for voting some way that they know you don't
want to vote.
Yeah.
I like that.
Good take.
That's probably not what I would have said at some point in the past, but I think you talked me into that.
Let me go back to just your game as a whole.
Do you feel like that there was one turning point when things were going really in an upward trajectory,
and then there was one moment where things started to go south?
It's easy to say that the fake idol, grabbing the fake idol is what put a big target on me.
And from then on, it's just classic regular.
Devin's trying to get by one night at a time. But I actually think that it was too late.
Emily and Christian and I were going to have a really hard time making our way through. I think we had
already been seen as the target. I think really when Surrey decided to pick the other group
instead of picking that CELA 4 is when we were going to be fighting to survive no matter what.
So I have absolutely zero regrets about doing it the big way and going out the big way as opposed to just trying to crawl by and stay under the radar the rest of the time.
I think it's okay to criticize that and to think that maybe I could have done it a different way, but I don't think so.
I think I would have been scrambling to get by no matter what.
And, you know, I'd rather do it with style.
Well, Rick, speaking of your style.
And by the way, when I left, the jury tells me that they were rooting for me to win.
Yes.
Whereas if I do it the other way, what type argument am I making at the end?
Yeah, Rick, I really do think that your game here in this season, I think that we're going to look back and look at this as maybe a game that changes the trajectory of the way that people played the game of Survivor.
Because I think that the show in the way that it's designed in the new era and going back to, you know, dangerous fun.
I don't know if the players necessarily have embraced the idea of like, hey, what the hell?
You know, I'm only here like, let me just do whatever is going to be the most fun.
I think that people who play Survivor in the modern era play, you know, they want to do everything strategically correct and by the book.
And you'll say, maybe we're part of it in the podcast world of sort of like creating players to play this way.
but I think that you have showed people a new, more fun way to play.
And I do think that there could be some Devin's disciples who come along in the future who want to play like you.
That's high praise.
And also I apologize to all the people who are going to hate that.
But I do think it's important to have people that play different ways.
Like, I force people to react to me out there.
And I think that that's good for the TV show part of it.
But also, you know, honestly, Rob, dude, I was thinking about.
people like you, people like Jesse, who wanted to play Survivor 50 and didn't get that chance.
And just if you were sitting in your studio going like, oh, I could have done this, but Devin's just under the radar all the way to the end, it's like, that kills me.
Yeah.
So I was determined to give Jeff everything.
Yeah, people responded to it for sure.
And so, Rick, would you be open to another trip to Fiji to see the shooting stars once again?
you know, I'm not one of these people who says,
that was my swan song.
It's actually the most beautiful ending I could ask for.
And there's no way I can, you know, to do this on two different seasons,
it's like it's going to be a disappointment.
But I will tell Jeff yes.
Who cares?
Who cares?
Every time.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Who cares is the exact attitude you should take when you go out there.
I think so many people are scared to look stupid.
Too precious.
Yeah.
That they don't play.
or they don't play aggressively.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
And Rick,
I'm going to pitch to you
and to the Survivor producers, okay?
I think that you'd be perfect in a captain season
where you're there with new players.
And the new players that you're going to try to get them together.
And at some point,
they're going to turn on you.
And then you're going to figure out that they're turning on you.
You're like,
screw these guys.
And then it'll be great.
It'll be classic Rick Devons.
And so I pitch you for,
I don't know who the other returning player is or two.
but it goes back to your roots to the edge of extinction.
Bring Rick Devons back with a couple other returning players and new players.
How about that?
I'm in.
Let's do it.
All right.
You want a captain one team?
Should we put fish back out there?
Too many guys.
Rick,
we got to bring,
we need women returning to.
I don't want to be outplayed by Surrey twice.
I'll leave it to the producers to figure out the rest.
I know you got to run.
All right.
Take care of Rick.
All the best.
Bye.
Hey, thanks, Rob.
Always a pleasure, man.
You too.
Bye.
recording stopped i don't mean to go over all right i'll talk to you later rick see you at the finale i wanted
you to go over thank you all right everybody there you have it there's rick devins i really do believe
that maybe more so than any other player on the season i think the person that you think you're
going to feel the impact of their game from survivor 50 the most into the 50s is going to be
rick devins now i don't know how much the survivor 51 players saw of rick but i don't know how much the survivor 51 players
saw of Rick, but I think that maybe they saw enough that you might see more players having a
Rick Devon's mentality going into Survivor moving forward. But I really think that Rick
certainly got a lot of flowers over the course of the season and did such a great job. So,
so happy for Rick. And we are going to take a quick break. And when we come back, we're going to
talk with, we didn't want this exit interview to happen for so long, but we have to
face facts. Here she is. We're going to come back with
Surrey Field right after this.
All right, we are here, of course, with the great
Surrey Field. And Surrey, first off, how are you doing this morning?
I am doing fabulous.
Okay, good to hear. Well, are you in the mood for me to
give you some flowers?
What girl is never in the mood for flowers, right?
Yeah. Well, I just think that what you've done is
is so remarkable. And when we look at, and I had to like check my work here because it's like,
wait, is this a typo? But you've gone so deep into these survivor games five different times
by my count of being right there and dominating these games, not to mention what you did on Big
Brother. And of course, of course, winning on the traders. And it's just absolutely incredible.
And when we talk about you as, okay, you know, the greatest to never win, you know, I think that there's a lot that did win that I think that you're greater than nobody else has done this as many times as you have.
And it's just absolutely remarkable what you've done over the course of your career.
And it's just, I could go on and on.
But in this particular game, where you also dominated once again.
and played the best game in Survivor 50.
Did you start to believe that you had this one?
I felt that, well, once I got past the first three attacks or attempts to vote me out,
and it kind of became like kind of smooth sailing, I felt comfortable,
but I couldn't really figure out my path to the end.
Because in my mind, there was only, I knew.
Ozzy would be willing to sit next to me. Would Rizzo be willing to sit next to me in the end as a
gamer and the person he was? I wasn't sure. Once I linked up with Tiffany, I knew Tiffany would be
willing to sit next to me at the end, but there was so many other people in between there that I
knew wouldn't. And most people, most contestants on Survivor are like, you know what, we love you
and we're ride with you and we're loyal to you, but I could never make it go to the
the end with you because I would never win. And there's only a handful, Parvety, Ozzie, Tiffany
that I know for a fact would go to the end with me when lose the draw. So did I ever feel like,
yes, I can do this? No, but I did feel like, damn, I made it past that. I didn't expect to be here
this long. Yeah. It was really incredible that you were, you were right there. And then, of course,
we see when you lose Ozzy last week,
that that was like a big shield out in front of you that you lost.
I was wondering if you would have any hard feelings towards Rizzo
when he came back from that tribal council
that he didn't save Ozzy when he could have.
Did you have any feelings about that
that he didn't make that move to save Ozzy?
No, because when Rizzo told me what Ozzy did,
and he mentioned when he told me what Ozzie did,
he said Ozzie told them everything,
and he included his self in what Ozzy told them about our alliance as well.
So I knew like, because if I'm there, even when I heard it, I was like, damn, why did you save me?
So I knew in my mind, I felt like Rizzo felt like he was between a rock and a hard place.
Either try to save Ozzie and be found out because clearly Arbery wasn't trying to save Ozzie.
Joe and Jonathan wasn't trying to save Ozzy,
so he would have to put his game on the line
and be exposed as the one who gave tipped Ozzy off
that they were coming for him
because other than that,
Ozzie was super comfortable
knowing that he was going to float right through this vote.
So would Rizzo go as far as risking his own game
because of the circumstances?
That's why I was kind of like understanding
to what Rizzo did.
So looking back at,
all of the different times you've played on Survivor.
I think that this might have been the most normal time
that you ever got voted out.
I know it was a very twisty season,
but this was like a normal tribal council
where there wasn't anything, no advantage get in,
no fire making or anything like that.
Did you know at that tribal council
that it was going to be you?
Yeah.
I knew, this is why I tried to hail Mary.
I knew before, well, you saw me
have the conversation with Rizzo,
and I said to Rizzo,
what happens if Tiffany wins?
Because I knew, right?
And he's like, well, I don't know.
I even said to him, what are you mean?
You don't know.
I know what you don't know.
So, yeah, I knew if Tiffany were to win, they were coming for me.
You know, you had such a good thing with Ozzie and Rizzo at one point with the Ceres,
but then you had this other great ally in Tiffany.
And now after Ozzy is gone, it didn't see.
like that Tiffany and Rizzo got along as well as Ozzie and Rizzo.
How hard was that?
It was difficult because Tiffany wasn't wrong in her wanting to get Rizzo out with his idol,
but it wasn't as important to my game, right?
I figured we could wait on that, but Tiffany was a little fixated.
Again, not wrong because someone in the game with an idol that can't be.
used on you or shared and is only for them, it's only benefiting them. So I get why she wanted it
out so much. But had I been able to bridge that gap between Tiffany and Rizzo, maybe things would
have been different. Can you talk a little bit about your relationship with Tiffany? I remember in the
preseason you talked about Tiffany and you said that, you know, she's a millennial and she wants to do
what she wants to do. But it's simply that you had this really nice relationship that came together
in the post-merge of the game.
Rob, I go by energy
and what people give off to me.
And the second that Tiffany and I came together,
it was like an instant connection.
And I never felt anything
but good vibes from Tiffany.
I never felt questionable about Tiffany.
And just, I enjoy spending time with Tiffany.
Like, I hang out with Tiffany now.
So I don't know.
It's just like when you find
your people, you find your people when you find a connection. And you're not going to connect with
everybody, but I did with Tiffany. You know, the relationship with you and Aubrey is also so interesting
because you go back, and I loved when you said in the episode, you know, we got to stop meeting like
this. And of course, you and Aubrey are both there at the final six in game changers. The last time
you played on the U.S. Survivor, and it's also the final six when Advantage Get it happens.
And I thought that that was so poetic. And you seemed to know that this was like this, this important
moment with you and Aubrey.
And we didn't see too much of you and Aubrey connecting over the course of the season.
You were happy when they told you that they gave the idol to her and a little bit at the merge.
But you said when you voted for Aubrey, Aubrey, I love you.
Can you talk a little bit about your relationship with Aubrey?
Yeah.
Aubrey has been to my house.
Aubrey was one of the first survivors to meet my granddaughter.
Like, Aubrey and I have a real person to person outside of any game connection.
And we understand each other.
And I understand that Aubrey knew, and she said it, like there's no way we sit together in the end because Arby wants, he has a baby now and a family.
And Arbery wants to win this as much as I do.
And I don't hate the player.
I hate the game, right?
So I never targeted Arbery once until it was my life or her life, right?
It was my Hail Mary.
I have to try to pinpoint this or Arby, maybe that will save me.
But outside of that, I love Arby.
However, I did feel a little bit of, damn, Ceree, here we are again.
And you know, I can't go with you.
And, girl, you know, I can't go with you.
That was the vibe.
So Rick ends up being this big target who everybody is trying to get out of the game.
I thought that there was maybe a path for you.
If you kept Rick in at the final seven,
You say, I see that, I see your reaction is no.
No, you couldn't keep Rick in.
Tell me about that.
There were six of one, one half doesn't know the other,
because Devin's two says I could never win against Surrey.
I would never sit with Surrey.
When we talk, he's like the great Surrey feels.
So when people say that to you and talk to you that way,
you think the person saying you're the greatest to never, ever do it.
And I honored to be with the great.
to refield, you think that's the person they want to sit next to the end and beating votes?
Absolutely not.
So the same outcome would have occurred, whether it was Rizzo or Devin's or Arbery, because the
people that were left in the game, as long as Tiffany won, those people did not want to sit
next to me at the end of the game, and I would have been the only option.
The only reason I say that is because I was thinking that if Rick and Joe were,
could they even agree to vote you out?
Absolutely.
Especially when Joe told me out of his mouth, when I said, Joe, so how things looking, like people talking.
And, you know, everybody knows, everybody knows they won't be able to beat you in the end.
And I think that would have been the only time that Rick and Joe came together.
You could have healed them.
You could have gotten them on the same page.
It would have been so great for Joe and Rick to finally have something in common.
But you were with Joe for a lot of the game.
You know, and you talked about how at different points you felt like that you had to babysit Joe.
Can you talk a little bit about what was like to play with Joe?
Joe is a strong personality.
Joe is like a man's man.
And those type of alpha males is hard to tell them what to do or have them go against what,
they think is right. And Joe, to his credit, stands on business and stands on his principles.
But to me, in Survivor, sometimes you have to be a little more flexible. And I think Joe's inflexibility
sometimes, even though it just took a lot of prodding to get him to kind of go with the flow if he didn't
100% agree with it. And that's actually not a bad way to be. If you believe something,
something, stand on that.
Will that work on Survivor?
I don't know.
In your final hour in the game
in season 50, you
come up with this brilliant idea
that you're going to turn Jonathan
against Aubrey. And we didn't see a ton
about your relationship with Jonathan
in the game, a few
moments here and there, but it seemed
that you were able to go in
and just, this was
like back on the traitors.
You turned Jonathan around,
where he was really considering Aubrey.
How far did that go?
I think, well, you saw.
He was trying to kind of campaign.
But what they didn't show is there was so many conversations
about how they didn't trust Aubrey.
And that's what I had to, that's all I had to capitalize on.
They already don't trust her.
I have this information.
I don't want to turn on one of my number ones with the,
and give him up as the one giving me the information.
Maybe this could help me.
and maybe this could accentuate the distrust they have for Arby already
and maybe keep me in the game one more vote.
Yeah.
You said before season 50, this was it.
You were coming back and you were going to play Survivor one more time.
Have you reconsidered that at all since you played?
Absolutely not.
I'll be 56 in July and I started this one.
I was 35.
You're doing great.
Absolutely.
And that's what you know what people do?
You watch people in careers or singing career or any other career.
I'm even like, damn, they had such a great run.
If they had just ended it last year or last album or last movie, it would have been great.
And I feel fulfilled.
I feel like I've gotten way more than I ever anticipated.
So what else is there for me to do?
Well, that's what I want to know, because you've dominated across Survivor in the United States
and in Australia and Big Brother and the traders.
But so what else do you want to do?
I don't know.
There will be a couple things.
Okay.
That are not as strenuous.
Okay.
But you would like to play on more shows?
Something.
Yeah.
Okay.
Now, it was announced that there's going to be a fan favorite award.
And I just want to say that I think that there would be, I love looking back at the history
and the past of Survivor.
And I think it was a huge turning point
in the history of the show
when you became the fan favorite in Panama.
Because I think that traditionally,
Survivor rewarded the Colby's
and the Terries, the people who were the challenge dominators.
And I think that your story has always been one of that,
one of inspiration, of inspiring the fans of that.
you can put your mind to it and you can do anything.
And I think that there would be such great poetry to go back to that turning point of you being
the fan favorite in Panama to see once again, it would be such a nice story, right,
to see Surrey as the fan favorite next week.
Thank you, Rob.
And again, that would just put the nice bowl on this 20-year journey that has just blown
my mind. If not, I can't ask for any more than I've received over these 20 years. So much,
I got DMs last night from China. I didn't even know we showed in China. And then they showed me
screenshots from in Chinese and translated about the love that I have over there. So the fan favorite
vote will be awesome. But even without it, I feel so fulfilled and so grateful for this journey, Rob.
And for your kind words, I appreciate you because you played as well.
So especially coming from you knowing what this game is really like, thank you.
Yeah, thank you for that.
And it's always a pleasure to not only get to talk,
but anytime we get to watch you play on the show.
So I can't wait to see what you do next and see you next week at the finale, okay?
All right, Rob.
Thank you so much.
Take care.
Bye.
All right.
Bye.
All right, everybody, there you have at the great three fields.
What a run for Surrey, where she really does.
really dominated so much of the post-merge game.
She had that pendulum strategy working so well, going back and forth,
took out D, then went back and took out coaching Chrissy,
and then went back and took out Christian,
and it was just like to take out one person from one side,
take out one person from the other side, back and forth, back and forth.
And then ultimately, when Ozzy went out,
that was like a big blow, like the Surrey protection ring was punctured.
at that point, and there really was probably no escape after that point. And ultimately,
she comes up just short again, amazing five times. She goes so deep into a Survivor game,
which is just unfathomable that there are so many winners that they only had a good game once,
five times played maybe just the best or second best game in a given season of Survivor.
So just absolutely incredible, just life in Survivor for Surrey,
not to mention what she did on Big Brother and the Traders as well.
All right, we're going to take a break.
And when we come back, we've got the season finale of this week in Survivor history.
Jordan Kalish will be here to talk a little final six trivia.
And we'll be back right after this.
All right, everybody, we've got here after double exit interviews, the Twitch, season,
and back with us for the final time.
In Survivor 50, it's Jordan Klish.
Yes, I am back.
And this is, it might be the penultimate week of Survivor,
but as always, we are doing the Twitch finale this week.
It's always bittersweet.
It's sweet because we got to podcast about so many,
so many episodes this season and talk about all the 50 players.
But it's bitter because I'm going to miss it.
I'm going to miss it.
But 51, baby, will rise like the golden feet.
Yes.
We'll make the Phoenix dance once again.
And yeah, and this is especially bittersweet
because then this is going to be then
the last twish for the whole summer.
It'll be,
we'll be all set with the NFL ready to go.
It'll be like week three of the NFL by the time we come back.
Should I binge watch the whole history of Big Brother
and then start doing this week in Big Brother history?
You could.
And I think you and Taryn every week
would have a great time.
Taryn will love the verbal rebus. It'll be fantastic. But here with us. I could see him. I could see him as a big rebus guy. Yes. He would love it so much. It would be it would tickle him. Okay. We're here with Will today. Will, how are you? I'm doing great. Sad the Survivor season is ending, but looking forward to NFL season and Rob, I'm sorry. My Patriots will knock out your jets real quick.
Sure, sure. Listen, the Patriots are locked in right now. Everybody in Patriots Nation, very focused on all the X's and O's and XO, XO, XO, XO, XO, XO. And so it's so fun to be a watcher of the New England Patriots from my vantage point in particular.
So, Will, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Yeah, I've been an RHAP listener since Triple H patron since right before Winners at War.
My favorite season is token tunes and maybe to no surprise, my favorite player is Coach.
Oh, I think I'd say Stephen.
Okay.
All right.
So did you enjoy coach in Season 50?
I did.
I feel like we got exactly what we needed from Coach.
I would have liked to see him stick around a little longer,
but I think you got everything you wanted out of coach.
It was a throwback season for coach, for sure.
Okay, all right, let's get into our game here today.
Jordan, what categories do you have in store for us?
All right, so for the final game of the season,
we have Colby, talk about a throwback,
we have Genevieve, we have the old era mystery box,
and the new era mystery box.
And Rob, it's been a while since you've been here on Twitch.
We had a week off with Brandon,
and the week before that was a total week off for all of us.
So the mystery box questions are worth three without the multiple choice,
one with the multiple choice.
And then if you were to steal without the multiple choice,
it would be two points.
So that is how the mystery box works.
I think I like it.
I think I like it, Rob.
It was a good scoring change that we instituted mid-season.
So, Will, as the guest, you get to choose the first category.
I think I'm going to go.
Wait, hold on.
Sorry, hold on one.
There's a knock at the door and Jordan is waving off a visitor.
Yeah, I, I, I, it's, they knocked like four times and I don't know why they can't just go away and come back later.
But okay.
We're back here.
So, um, uh, well, did you choose the category yet?
I got distracted.
We'll distract it for a second.
I'm going to go with the old era mystery box.
Old, old era mystery box.
Who are the only two old era players on 50
to have received exactly two jury votes
at a final tribal council previous to season 50?
All right.
I'm gonna have to think this one through.
I know one answer is Aubrey.
Colby got three.
I believe it's Aubrey and Chrissy.
So Aubrey and Chrissy,
you got Aubrey pretty quick.
that was a five to two vote.
So that was two votes for Aubrey.
Chrissy was a five to two to one vote where she received two.
Ryan Ulrich received one.
Ben, of course, got five.
So you're off to a strong start, Will.
That was very fast, Will.
You get three points.
Yeah.
Rob, I think when the competitor gets the question like that, that's a hard question,
gets it so quickly.
I feel like you could be up against a buzz sock today.
But Rob,
all right, I got to take the new era mystery box to hold serve here.
I had a feeling that's where you're going to go.
you can tie it up here with three points if you don't go to the multiple choice.
Yeah.
Who is the only new era player on 50 to have cast their jury vote for someone other than the winner of their season?
Who cast their jury vote for somebody other than the winner of the season?
I'm going to follow Will's lead.
I'm just going to go right to that I believe Jonathan voted for Mike Turner.
Jonathan is the only juror on FD to have voted for someone other than the winner.
Mike Turner was the person he voted for us.
So Rob, you get three points.
We are tied three to three.
We potentially could be going to a tiebreaker here if you both hold serve and get your questions right without the multiple choice.
So, Will, are we going to go with Colby or Genevieve?
I feel like I'm going to take Genevieve's smaller body of work.
All right.
So that's actually, that's a good point.
You know what season we're going to do, Genevieve.
At the tribal in which Genevieve was voted out, who played an idol?
I believe Sue unnecessarily played her idol.
Sue Smey, well, unnecessarily, but also she,
it was the last time she could have played it.
So she, that is correct, though.
She needs to play the idol.
Beast games.
I miss, I miss Beast games.
I feel like Mr. Beast did have a nice appearance on Survivor.
I actually thought it was maybe the best of the,
definitely the best of the cameos of people who were actually on the islands.
But I did not catch the Beast games.
So I'm not fully all in yet on Mr.
but I did like his interview with you on RHIP.
Maybe Mr. Beast might enjoy your verbal rebuses also.
Maybe if you want to do this week in Beast games history.
I could see Mr. Beast enjoying the verbal rebus more than you and probably more than a Taryn.
So I think maybe give him, Rob, the next time you talk to Mr. V, say, I got this guy, this Jordan Kay is going to really like it.
I think you're totally underselling here.
Yeah.
But anyway, we are up five to three, Will.
Rob, you need to tie it up here.
You cannot go to the multiple choice.
If you do, you will lose automatically.
We're going with Colby.
Who was the only member of Colby's original Oga Corps tribe
to cast a jury vote for him instead of Tina?
The only member of the Oga Corps tribe
who cast the vote for him and not for Tina.
So I'm going to guess that it was my old friend and castmate.
And I had a very nice dinner with her husband the other night.
I'm going to say it was Amber.
Amber, famously married to Boston Rob, is the correct answer.
So I don't remember the last time we went to a tiebreaker,
but on the last season of Twitch, this is very fitting.
or the last season of Twitch,
you heard it here first, everybody.
Jordan Kalish Veris,
and shockingly is retired from Twitch.
Oh my God.
Oh, my goodness gracious.
Of all the dramatic things, Rob.
Like, I always thought everybody was looking at LeBron,
but it was Jordan Kalish who's surprisingly retiring from Twitch.
I can't believe it.
I'll famously, I will come out of retirement like some of my favorite sports stars.
Like Roger Clemens.
No.
Roger Clemens, who's in George's box.
Okay, so now we are tied 5-5.
What we are going to do for the tiebreaker.
So even though we have been talking a lot about finale,
so Genevieve question was not from a finale.
That was for some reason that final five vote was not in the finale.
I don't know why they did that.
But anyway, this is episode 12.
A lot of times the episode before the finale is the final six vote.
So the tiebreaker is going to be the final six,
the six place player on Cs.
in Survivor history. I will spin the random up miser wheel. I will give you a season.
You have to tell me who came in six place starting with Will.
Okay. Six place on the season. So let me get my number a randomizer up on my screen, putting in one through 49, 50.
Gonna be tough. The new era seasons blend together. Oh, okay. So hoping. I mean, we'll answer this
questions very quickly. So the first season that you have to deal with Will is Survivor 32.
which is Co-Rong.
Okay.
Let's think about this.
I'm going to go with Kyle Jason.
Kyle Jason is Kyle Jason,
the sixth place player on Co-Rong.
He is, so Will you get a point.
You're up six to five.
Rob, you have to match here with season 39.
Oh, come on.
Really?
Really?
It's the randomizer.
The randomizer doesn't know.
I mean,
Forget retiring.
You're going to be fired.
People are going to be in an uproar.
Should we,
okay,
let's get it.
As Jordan Kalish has requested,
that the person he picked is Dan Spillo.
Yeah,
yeah,
okay,
Rob,
you get the point.
The randomizer is fired.
I might use,
right now I'm using a Google randomizer.
I might have to skip the,
I might have to fire the Google randomizer for next season.
Okay.
Season 20,
Heroes versus Ville.
villains for Will. Okay, that one's an easy one. That's Rupert.
Rupert, yes. You know, being in sixth place is not as much fun as some of the other places,
you know. My toe. Yeah, Rupert, Rupert is the correct answer. And we just missed one spot
and I had a Colby who we just had a question about. So Rob, let's see who you get now.
we have season.
Okay, this is also going to be controversial.
Season six,
survive for the Amazon.
Okay.
In sixth place,
controversial with different reasons.
Yeah, sixth place.
Is season six,
six place,
it's going to be my good friend,
Christy Smith,
friend of the pod.
Christy Smith,
killing the swing vote.
It is seven to seven.
This could go on forever.
I feel like maybe six places is too easy.
Maybe I should have done seventh place.
Will, we are going to, we just talked about Rupert.
We're going to Survivor Pearl Islands.
Okay.
Oh, man, who has voted out right before Burton.
To wanna, Tijuana.
How do you say her name?
Tijuana Bradley is a player on that season.
Unfortunately, she was seventh place.
So, Rob, if you get this right.
Duana was seventh.
Yes.
We are going to Survivor 21, which is Nicaragua.
Nicaragua.
And so, this is a little tricky.
But I believe, okay, so we have our final three is Fabio and Sash and Chase.
and then I believe Holly was
fourth place
and I believe that
Dan was fifth place
and I believe that sixth place
I'm going to say it was Benry
Benry
you have also given me a seventh place
to Rob Jane Bright
you missed Jane Bright
Lake Great Jimbrite
okay Jane Bright
so we're still at seven to seven
we have to make sure
we finish this before my next class starts
17 Survivor Gabon
All right
Survivor Gubon
is Crystal. Crystal, that is correct. So we are at now 8 to 7. Rob, your season. Yep.
Christy Smith. Season 30. Yeah, yeah, Chris, Seriously, Smith. Survivor, yeah, your season. 34. We can't go back to the Amazon. 34 is game changers.
Well, this is a little bit of a sore spot, Jordan. I believe this is what's advantage. Get it.
Yes.
Read the room, my guy.
You know.
It's the randomizer.
Okay.
Well, who was the advantage of you have to give me the name?
Three Fields for all you sadists out there was sixth place in Survivor 34.
You've gotten like the three craziest funds you could have gotten.
Will.
Okay.
Season nine, Van Nuwatu.
Okay.
Um,
season nine,
I want to say that is Amy Kusack.
Amy Kusack is correct.
So you get a point that you have,
I think this is eating up the verbal rebus time.
I got to be honest.
It might be.
So here's what we're going to do,
Rob,
if you get this right,
we are going to then go to seventh places.
I feel like seven places are harder.
So if Rob,
if you get this right,
we're going to seventh placers after this round.
We are going to 16 micronisia.
But go ahead.
That's true.
You actually gave me seventh places.
So you could.
It could bite us in the butt, but we are going to Micronesia.
Micronesia, sixth place in Micronesia.
I believe this was when Amanda played the idol,
and I believe this is when Alexis gets voted out.
That is correct.
So we are tied 9-9, by far the highest scoring game of the season so far.
We are going to seventh placers now, several-th placers.
will the several place player on season 45.
Oh, geez.
Oh, wait, I know this.
Emily just got voted out on the same day.
It's Emily Flippin.
Emily Flippin is correct.
You get a point.
You're winning 10 to 9.
Rob, you need to get this right.
Okay.
We are going to another controversial once Survivor All-Stars.
Seven-placer in Survivor All-Stars, I believe, is
let me just make sure I have this right
I believe this is I'm just going to go in
Alicia Callaway
that is correct
Alicia you were on that season
and that is correct you were on
uh should have been she's tribe there
yeah should have been she yeah but it wasn't
and she was very happy when she won immunity there
all right
seventh place there will Survivor 49
I believe that is
Jawan
Joanne is, yes, Stephen was, no,
Jawan is incorrect.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
Sophie Sogretti was the seventh placer.
So, Rob, you could win it here.
Yeah.
Survivor 26, which is Caramowen.
In Caramowen at the final seven.
Okay.
I believe this is a person who I think has multiple final seven vote out.
I'm going to say it's Andrea Belke.
Andrea Belke, who has been on Rob has a podcast this season.
I have gotten to play Survivor with Andrea Belke in a fake game.
That is correct.
Andrea Belke, the several placer of Survivor Caramohan.
Rob wins the game 11 to 10.
but Will, you did a fantastic job here
in Twitch. We went to the brink.
Yeah. Really crazy
a crazy win there
for Rob to end the season.
But Will, you should be proud of yourself.
Thank you.
Yes. And what an amazing
Twitch battle to last us over the summer.
Should we skip the verbal rebus? Should we do it?
Is it a quick one?
It is not really.
Okay, I can tell you this.
I will save this verbal rebus.
for next season.
Okay.
Make sure I put it in the notes.
People want it, I think.
People are going to get mad.
Just give us like an Edna Ma real quick.
Yeah.
Okay.
So what is the shortened version of the guy who wanted to do the dog bar?
A shortened version of his name.
Yeah?
Okay.
Certain version of Edgargo's name.
Ed.
Yeah.
Nah.
So, okay, so what are the initials of the winner of San Juan Del Sur?
Natalie and,
nah.
Okay. And then
when they voted out
Patricia in Survivor the Vargas
I believe they wrote this word on one
of the votes. Ma? Ma.
Ma. I think they wrote
Ma. I think they wrote Ma.
Enda Maa. The verbal Revis. Well, they called her
Ma'am. Mama. Our mother.
She was mother. She was
mother. That's what they saw. She was mother
before that was even a phrase. They say, mother
is here. It's Patricia.
Yep.
She mothered harder than anyone. Anything you want to tell people to check out?
read Rob's book
Oh yes please
You've read it
Will
I'm just about to start the oops all Cochran
Okay good
I'm glad you're enjoying it
Jordan what are some of your favorite parts so far
Well I love on the back of the book
That Cochran does give a
quote talk about oops all Cochran
I have not started the book yet
Because I want to wait
I have Memorial Day weekend coming up
No I have I have a little Memorial Day break coming up
That is my plan time to watch.
I want to wait until my baseball season is over
where I could sit down and really chew into it and enjoy it.
I will 100% read this book cover to cover.
I have flipped through it.
I've looked, yeah, that's true.
I have looked through all the pictures.
I think I've seen all the pictures.
I just was curious about that.
But I am looking forward to reading it.
I'll probably read it in a day.
I feel like this is like a one-day book for me.
Okay.
All right, what a flex.
All right, Jordan, thank you so much for all your hard work this season.
Have a great summer.
We'll talk to you in the fall, okay?
Yep. Have a great offseason. Talk to you soon.
And for everybody else, of course, the Tribe is spoken, available in hardcover and the audiobook.
Also, fun listen on the audiobook side of things.
And I'll be back for the patrons on Friday for the patron Q&A coming up.
And thank you so much for listening to our double-exit interview.
Take care. Everybody, have a good one. Bye.
