Starting point is 00:00:01 everybody what's going on rob cessorino i'm here on the red carpet for the survivor 50 finale and i got some great exit interviews for you here tonight on the red carpet i spoke with the incredible winner of survivor 50 aubrey brocco plus i also got to catch up with joe hunter tiffany nicoe ervin and the ris god they were all here jonathan did not do exit press here tonight with me or any of the outlets here on the red carpet. I do hope that we have the opportunity to catch up with Jonathan tomorrow on Thursday when I will have the opportunity via Zoom to talk with the final five. So you're going to hear my interviews with Aubrey and Joe and the Risgod and Tiffany here tonight. Owen and Sam Phelan were back in the studio tonight with a full recap of the episode.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Plus, I also had the opportunity to do red carpet arrivals, which will also have for you coming up soon here on Rob is a podcast. But here is my interview with Aubrey. We're here. This is so exciting. We're here with the winner of Survivor 50. It's Aubrey Brocko. And I would ask you how you're doing, but I think you're probably incredible.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Yeah, I mean, to hear you say that, it's surreal. I've never thought I'd hear that. It's unbelievable. I just want to say I personally, I'm so happy for you with this because that we've been on this, journey for, what is it, 10 years? Two days ago, it was 10 years since the Co-Rong finale, and I never make it look easy, 10 years. And you were the, you should have won person, and then you, and I thought you articulated this, and then it's like, oh, wait, no, actually,
Starting point is 00:01:49 then the worm turned, and then it was like, you shouldn't have won, and then now, here you are, and now you are a winner, and I just, as, as, I think as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, as, Any of us who are in the, like, close but no cigar to come back and to get it, that it's just, it's so cool. Thank you. Yeah, I feel so lucky. Like, there are so many people in my position, you know, that have gotten so close. We know.
Starting point is 00:02:18 I just, I never thought I'd have this opportunity again. And I really have to say it was that conversation with you and T-Bird. I never thought in a million years. And you guys asked me. And I was like, well, maybe. And I just can't believe we're standing here. That is a wild butterfly effect to think about. But you did such a great job.
Starting point is 00:02:39 And you were an alternate, right? I was never an alternate on Season 50 of Survivor ever. Yes. I was cut, and then I was re-added to the cast. Wow. Yeah. And so many things in this game, like if just the one bounce of the ball went the other way,
Starting point is 00:02:58 you wouldn't be here. It's just like so amazing. No, it is. And you know everyone says that luck is part of survivor. But I have a really good friend, Chris Savage, he always says the recipe for luck is persistence and the belief that good things can happen. You cultivate the environment for luck. And I really believe that that helped me because I had some real low days. The beginning was not so good. Really sick a couple days. It was on the wrong side socially. And I just believe that if I could scrape through, I could get to another day.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah. I really would love to go through the whole. thing, the whole thing at some point. But I just think that your final tribal council was also one of the best. And I just like, but I had been thinking like if you could get there, I knew you were going to ace the final tribal council. I mean, Rob, I've been studying it for 10 years. I studied my mistakes. I study these players. I've studied all of these players that I played with, their wounds. I know that I am one hero in my own story and there are 23 other heroes in their stories. I really tried to put myself in their shoes. And I realized that there was a way to be direct and tell my story without invalidating
Starting point is 00:04:07 all of those people on the jury and tell them about the tenure journey I've had. It seemed like watching the shows that you could sort of like see this coming. You like you saw, like, there's a point like around when Stephanie is going home that I felt like that you could kind of like see a path. Is that how you felt while you were out there? I would say I really felt at the Aussie vote. Yeah. I thought I was dead in the water with that rock draw.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Those guys were really like buddies, but the conversations I had with Rizzo Joe and Jonathan that day, you know, when you talk to someone, you're like, this is a different kind of conversation. I felt like they didn't. I thought they were underestimating me a little bit, and I thought that I could get at least a four, and then I had to push it over the line with some motion. Tell me if this is off base, and you cited all the winners of your other seasons, but I thought that this season, I think there's a lot of parallels to game changers, And this final three, especially, you were Sarah and Jonathan was Brad and Joe, unfortunately, was Trojan.
Starting point is 00:05:07 There were a lot of parallels to game changers in kind of those dynamics. Look, I know I'm not the most bubbly, charismatic person out there. I have more of like a more introverted kind of vibe. Sarah is very much a one-on-one person. I definitely learned from watching her to be very methodical about who you want in the end. I think that Sophie did this really well, too. I was really thinking, who do I want to sit next to? Who do I not?
Starting point is 00:05:32 I didn't want to get to that final three and lose again, Rob. I was terrified. When I actually got to final three, I'm like, it's going to happen again. Agonizing. So I really studied that end game. And then the big surprise, you got a car also? I mean, I'm like more surprised about the car because I just was not really expecting.
Starting point is 00:05:49 It had a big logo. I flew outside. I left the door open. It was going, beep, beep, beep. And they said, shut the door. They didn't even mention T or tease anything. about a car. I'm shocked. Thank you Toyota. Oh my gosh. Incredible. Like, what the heck is happening? Yeah. All right. Well, we are going to talk more tomorrow. So looking forward to that. I just
Starting point is 00:06:09 want to say again, I'm so proud of you and I'm so happy for your journey. And it's been just so cool to think about it in the context of this over 10 years to get here. Thank you. And thank you to the fans, production, press, everybody who boards their heart and souls into this game. And Rick Devons. Devons, where do you want to go to eat? What amusement parks you like? What island do you want to go on vacation? You know, I listen to the podcast where you're like, if someone wins, they got a, I've been considering this ever since I was showering and listen to that. Yes. Okay. Well, do something nice for Rick. And congratulations, Aubrey. Thank you. All right. We're here with Joe Hunter. And Joe, let me say, I really enjoyed watching you on Survivor 50.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I really thought that you had a view of the game that was different than what the other players were doing. And I really thought that you were such a fun person to watch in this season. And I feel like it was a little bit of a hard ride for you as it was playing out. How are you doing tonight? You know, so thank you for that. But I'm going to be dead honest with you. I started really thinking about this a lot. And I go, I feel so wonderful.
Starting point is 00:07:14 And this is why I go out of 750-some players to be one of the few that have made it to the top three, both times I played. And then I go out of my entire two seasons, a handful of people. people can say they beat me. Then you got a challenge is to make it in the top three of overall challenges ever played. And my torch has never been snuffed. Ever. That's pretty. So I sat back and what I've been through with my sister and everything else, man,
Starting point is 00:07:40 and the Tyler Perry deal. I am filled with tonight of like I refuse to make that a loss. I really do feel great. I made it to the top three and 50. Yeah. I mean, it's awesome. Yeah. Well, I thought that you came into Survivor,
Starting point is 00:07:55 50 and it was right after you just played on Survivor 48 and I felt like that you were coming into this game really like looking for the the people that were that were like the not to say that Kyle and Camilla are great but they they deceived you towards the end and I really felt like that you were really like eyes wide open really looking for that in this game like who's going to be the person here who is in is in what they say they are. True. Well, and I want to say this too about my first tribe, right? Think about it. I immediately
Starting point is 00:08:31 saw that Rick and Christian were tight with Emily. And then I saw Ozzy and Sarif. So I kind of felt, boom, and then we have Savannah, we have Jenna. So you're right in that I was looking for a home, and I kept missing the bus. I was trying to get in the carpool
Starting point is 00:08:47 and they go, no, we're full, and they would take off. So it was me trying to get my footing, but I did my best I could. I really wanted to work with Genevieve. And I wish I would have been able to work more with Emily. And she was amazing. Emily was amazing. She said some great things.
Starting point is 00:09:00 And I'm super grateful for her. Yeah. That was interesting. I heard in the Final Travel Council where Emily spoke about how that there was some talking about like, okay, well, who's going to talk to Joe on this vote? But Emily said that that goes to show how much power you have in the game. Could you talk a little bit more about your relationship with Emily? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I just thought it was a great perspective. And I don't know why other players didn't talk. talk about that, but that's how I felt when she said it. I thought going into it. Oh, I got to tell you, though. So I come in with that concept. I had a great, Emily's going to be a straight shooter. And then what's funny is, right when we sat down at Final Tribal, and I put my butt on the stool, and I looked out. And right then I go, you know what? We don't have to do this because I'll just go. They were pissed. I could count. I'm telling you, I was like, you've experienced this. You go, you're not getting my vote. Okay. Okay. You don't like me.
Starting point is 00:09:54 yeah, there's maybe a one or two. But the majority were like, I'm like, oh. So it was also one of those moments where I kind of knew. Yeah. But it's also the moment where I appreciate people like Emily, who also was able to separate the emotion and say the truth. How were you feeling going into the Final Tribal Council? Honestly, I must have been, you know, off my rocker.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Yeah. I thought I was going to battle for second. to be honest with you. I was like, okay, I think Aubrey has a good argument, but Jonathan's been playing a hell of a game, but I think I'm going to get a handful of votes. Then I really started looking at it, and I'm like, ah, man, maybe I got third based on seeing them,
Starting point is 00:10:39 but I at least thought I'd get a voter to. That's the only thing. I really did for other reasons. I think you've had such an interesting Survivor journey, because in Survivor 48, I thought 100% you were going to win the whole season. I thought that, okay, if Joe goes to, the end, he can't lose. And then this season felt like that, okay,
Starting point is 00:10:57 it feels like that if Joe's going to the end, I don't think he's going to win. And I hate to say this in that I feel like the momentum and what the players wanted. I feel like also, there were some players we just didn't ever get on the same page. And that sticks
Starting point is 00:11:13 in the jury. I think there's also relationships. When you have returning seasons, some of these players are friends. It's really hard to separate the two. If you ended up being on the jury. Would you have voted for Jonathan over Aubrey?
Starting point is 00:11:29 I mean, here's the deal. It's because Aubrey was such a great person and chose me. It's really hard to say anything negative about it because I truly think she's a great person. But from my perspective in the game, not watching the edit, my perspective in the game,
Starting point is 00:11:44 I thought he played a better game. So I would have voted for him based on the real life. Because you know the edit, you can sit back. I'm saying from what I saw in the game, I would have voted for him. Can I ask you about, I think that there was a lot of misconceptions about you also coming into the game. A lot of people talked about that you were in alliances before the game started.
Starting point is 00:12:05 I know that you've pushed back against that. Yes, and I'm saying this, and I'll prove it with any way unnecessary. I had zero alliances. I mean zero. Like communicated with zero, did zero. I won't comment on anyone else, meaning like I'm not, everyone's their own journey. but I can tell you, and that was really tough to hear. I think there was an assumption.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Now, I wasn't excluding anybody, but I had zero alliances. Zero phone calls, zooms, whatever, zero. I'm proud of that. Yeah. Well, Joe, you had such an interesting journey. I'd love to talk more with you about your entire game because I think it's so in the new era, I just think that you're such a different cat
Starting point is 00:12:45 with how these other players, the whole way that all the players look at the new era, is very different than how you play the game, but I think that that's what makes you a fun person to have in these seasons. So I just want to say congratulations. Thank you. And I hope you're enjoying everything that's come out of this. I am, and I got to say one thing, just to give you this heads up, man,
Starting point is 00:13:06 I really enjoy what you do. And you're one of the few that it's not biased. You just give the truth. You give perspectives that I really respect, and it's not easy to do that. I appreciate that. I really, I try to look at things from everybody's perspective, and I think that yours is always a really fun one to look at because I just think that you're a great dad,
Starting point is 00:13:26 you're a great family man, and I just hope that people always see that about you. Thank you. All right, I'm so thrilled to be here with The Man, the Myth, the Legend, and here he is, how are you doing? Man, honestly, this has been crazy, a crazy two years for me. One year applying to be on the show, One year watching and playing the show, it's been great.
Starting point is 00:13:54 I'm holding a lot of records right now, Rob. A lot of records, especially after tonight. Yeah, a new record. I don't even know what the record is, where Jeff basically put your torch out before anything happened. Yeah, listen, Jeff and I decided before this happened that we need to invent a new twist. And Jeff talked about why don't we show someone getting voted out and show how they get voted out? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:19 This time it wasn't a vote out. It was a fire-making loss. So that's ultimately what happened. Can you just talk about what was going through your mind during that moment? Because as a person who was here, I was like, oh, did I black out for a minute here? Ultimately, I just wanted to be a great professional. I was a little bit confused because from my understanding, I was going to go out after my loss. And ultimately, you know, Jeff says, let's bring out the risk out.
Starting point is 00:14:43 And I'm like, all right, I'm just going to hype up this fire challenge. I'm going to hype up how I reversed the curse. and then he says sit down in the jury and I'm like, okay. So it was interesting, it was fun. But then we played it off a little bit really well. And I think I made the joke about now a part of Survivor History, which I was. Yeah, look, you got to give people something to talk about. And that's what you've done so much.
Starting point is 00:15:04 And I just say I'm really proud of your games in two seasons. And it's so obvious how much you love the game. And I really felt like that you came out there with only nine days off. And you really played your ass off. I really hope you're proud. I am. I am. Honestly, as someone that studied the game and as a super fan of the game,
Starting point is 00:15:23 I always said that if Jeff gave me one chance, I'd prove them right. And not only did I did it, one chance, I did it twice in the biggest season ever. And I still feel in the bottom of my heart, how to Aubrey not win that final immunity? It's me and the three guys. I give myself at least a good shot to win the game. You know, I went through all of the scenarios yesterday. And I had discounted.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I said, you know, I don't know if Risgod has it in the end. But then I looked at you and Jonathan and Joe, And I was like, you know what? I actually think that you won in that scenario. Yeah, I think so, too. I think what was great about Joe and Jonathan is they were a part of the same alliance. So the alliance would have to ultimately pick who they wanted to vote for. I had a lot of the nerd group.
Starting point is 00:16:01 I had great alliances with D and Surrey. I don't think I would have gotten Ozzy's vote. But I think six four or whatever, six, five, seven, four, I had a really good shot had I been able to articulate my game. Yeah, that's how I was looking at it also. So, I mean, I thought that that was a really interesting group. for you. Now, I wonder also, watching these last couple episodes, was the Rizzo Joe Jonathan alliance? Was that actually a three-person alliance that you had been working on for a little bit? Yeah, for sure. Obviously, it doesn't make the edit because neither of us win, so it's not a winning
Starting point is 00:16:35 narrative. But since the Aussie blind side, the reason why I was so willing to do it was I actually locked down a final three with Joe and Jonathan at that vote. We said, listen, we all have flaws in our game. People think I'm a lazy bum. Jonathan had, you know, questions about his preexisting relationships. And Joe was this honor-bound integrity guy that no one took serious. So we all thought, if we all get together and make it to the end, we all give ourselves the best shot at winning. And I credit a lot of that awareness to my conversations with Emily and Rick that never made air. Emily at the final nine was like, Rizzo, honestly, I don't know what you're doing. And I feel like, I was like, great, Emily, thank you for being so honest. But that tells me that I'm playing such a good
Starting point is 00:17:11 game that nobody sees it. Now I need to get to the end with people that people don't. don't respect because they don't respect me. So that was the reason why I did that. And we really ran that late game. Yeah. Now, as viewers, we all wanted to see you go to the end with Surrey and Ozzy. But I also felt like that we heard from you so much. You really wanted to win.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Yeah. And I was curious, how much was that a real alliance in your mind, you and Ozzy and Surrey? Yeah, I mean, listen, I think my best comparison and advice to any future players is you want to play Survivor with people that know. how to play Survivor. It's like playing basketball. You're not going to play basketball with people that don't know how to pick and roll. So in 49, I aligned myself with Savannah and Sophie, and we ran the game.
Starting point is 00:17:54 And I felt confident that I can beat them at the end, hence why I went with them to the end. But you're telling me, the new kid on the block is going to be Surrey and Ozzy. Absolutely not. I worked with them because it benefited me. I realized that everyone was working with Surrey. And Ozzy was that comp beast that Savannah kind of was for me in 49. So ultimately, I was trying to go to the end with them. not the end. Let me rephrase that.
Starting point is 00:18:16 I was trying to go to the end game with them, but not the final three. So you're working with Joe and Jonathan. You have a final three with them. Yeah. They get to the final three. Yeah. But you vote for Aubrey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Yeah, you know, it's interesting. To be honest, I was actually very open and willing to vote for Joe. And something that we didn't see was me and Joe had a final two out there. Joe and I had a very close relationship. We saw something in a secret scene where I talked about how Joe met so much to my family because of my brother's autism and what he did for Eve on 48. And I wanted to go to the end with Joe. But once I got to Ponderosa, a lot of the discourse was Jonathan and Aubrey.
Starting point is 00:18:52 And I felt like had I thrown a vote at Joe, it might have been a closer vote. So I was now thinking, all right, I don't want to throw a hanky vote and force someone to lose. So then I based my vote on who I felt played the best strategically. And I thought Aubrey had no preexisting relationships. Aubrey really didn't do anything. Like she played her game. You know what I mean? She articulated her game, and to be quite honest,
Starting point is 00:19:16 I voted for her based on her Survivor legacy, playing Co-wrong, falling just short, coming back to game changes, making the final five, playing edge of extinction and flopping pretty hard, and to make it to the end of Survivor 50, and doing what she articulated is what gained my respect. Now, all right, that's Aubrey's journey. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Have you given thought to what's your journey? How long do you, would you be your ideal layoff before you come back? Survivor? Honestly, Rob, this sounds insane, but I would go back tomorrow. If Jeff says we need a 52 stand-in, I would do it. I love the game so much. I have the confidence in myself to know that I can still make it to the end, like I've done
Starting point is 00:19:56 these two times. If I can do it against all these people, Survivor 50, I could do it in a captain season. I can do it in all returnees. I can do it in all newbies. That's that kind of blind confidence you need in life, and that's what I have. I don't think me going, like if I play 52, 55, 65, 60-75 would change anything. My resume is my resume, you know? So they can put me out there tomorrow, and I want to prove the haters wrong.
Starting point is 00:20:18 All right. Well, looking forward to it. Looking forward to talking more with you about this game, about season 49. I know you got to run, but we're going to talk more tomorrow. Absolutely. All right, man. You're the man. Take care, buddy.
Starting point is 00:20:29 I love you, dude. Good night. We're here with the robbed queen, Tiffany and Nicole Irvin. My Rob Goddess now? Is that like my official title, Rob Goddess? Yeah, you are. You are. I love it.
Starting point is 00:20:41 I'll wear it for now. You know, I feel like we, we were. We were so close here between you winning and me having a winner pick. Oh my God, we were like, I could taste it. I was so close. It was right there within my grass. Yeah. I regret nothing.
Starting point is 00:20:56 I regret nothing because you did so good. You did everything that I thought that you could do, you did. And I just want to say, I'm really proud of the game you played. It's so good. Thank you so much. I'm very grateful. First of all, I saw the shout out in your book. I saw that you thought I was your winner pick, and I was honestly.
Starting point is 00:21:14 so flattered. I'm like finally, somebody out there who knows what's good. Somebody out there with a good take. I drafted you while you guys were still playing. You guys were, I don't even know if the game started and I drafted you. I really, I just thought that you everything that I thought the winner of the season would have. And it wasn't
Starting point is 00:21:32 you, but it was somebody who had a very similar ultimate story to you in Aubrey. But I just want to talk about your reception here this season because I really felt like that you could have won in Survivor 46 and you were on that trajectory. And I feel like that we saw your full potential in season 50. I could not agree more.
Starting point is 00:21:52 I walked away from season 46 with a big gaping hole in my heart because I knew that I had more to give. And I truly believe that I left it all out there this season. The only thing I could have done better this season, in my opinion, was win. Yeah. You put that one puzzle together and then you're at four. How were you at Sommotion? You win Sommotion?
Starting point is 00:22:11 I absolutely win some motion. I'm an artist. My hand, eye coordination. is impeccable. I would have won this game if they wouldn't have gotten me out. That one possible piece. I'll tell you, I don't know if you could see the reaction in that room, but when you didn't win that Final Five challenge, the room was not happy. Good. I'm glad. I'm glad to hear it because I also wasn't happy. But you know what? That just speaks volumes to how much people believed in me, how much people were cheering me on, and how much they wanted it just as bad as I did.
Starting point is 00:22:41 You know, I think you're a little bit of a contradiction as a player, and I hope that you will take this as a compliment. Okay. But you call it like it is, like Sandra, but you are seemingly so beloved by the other players where you really can say things like they are. But the other players, it seems to be something that makes you so well-liked by the other players. I agree with that, totally and 100%. but also I do take that as a compliment. And I sometimes wonder about that as well, but you know what it is. I think it's about the delivery.
Starting point is 00:23:17 I say what I mean and I say what I feel, but I always say it was love. I'm never saying anything to disrespect anybody. I'm never saying anything to put anybody down. And at the end of the day, I do think I'm a really good social player. And I work hard to let everybody know that I'm your friend. Worked off my chest. All right. I got a question that I want to know.
Starting point is 00:23:40 All right, you were very close with Surrey all through the, the post-merge. Yes. You could go to the end with Surrey? Yes. I know what that means. I know what going to the end with Surrey means,
Starting point is 00:23:54 but also I'm a person that believes in giving people what they deserve. I think I deserve to be sitting in there and I think Sarri deserve to be sitting next to me. And I'm just not a player that's scared.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Nobody puts fear in my heart. Not even Miss Sarie feels. And I would love to sit next to her at the end. Imagine, given the Queen Surrey, A win. That's a perfect book in to her survivor career. I would have loved to be one of the people to do that. Okay. All right. Well, Tiffany, we'll talk more soon, okay, but it's great to see you.
