Hey everybody.
What's going on?
Rob Sestradino back here.
And we've got a great one for the old school interview this week here.
A two-time survivor and a guy who is one of a kind.
It's Troy Zand Roberts.
And Troy Zand, how are you?
Yes, I love the bell.
Like I said, Rob, I feel.
honestly i'm not just bullshit i feel super honored to be here i'm because you know you get everybody
you're like the the top dude you know it's just like i hit the main you know i'm a major league
i've been doing some iron league stuff no no offense but like you know this is a big deal i was
actually shocked because you know we've always been good friends but and i know you have our busy
as hell and your podcast is taken out to the moon and it's like you know so honestly i'm honored
well thanks for all that i'm glad to get the chance to catch up i feel like that maybe the
last time we did one of these
might have been during Winners at War?
It could, I think I
talked because I had played with
four or five of the,
no, I played with Tony, Sandra,
Sarah, and
Kim. So I played with, and I
went to Sveezy with
my brain went dead.
Michelle, right?
Michelle, yes. So I knew
it was close with, you know, five
players. So, and I mean, I knew other
ones, but like I had played with four.
And so, yeah, it's the last time for the top, right?
And for people who are listening to the podcast, I mean, there is not many times,
I could probably count on one hand the number of times I've interviewed somebody who is shirtless.
Well, I thought about it, like, listen, do I go shirtless?
But, I mean, I always do shirtless.
It's like if people saw it, they go, oh, he's got clothes on.
What's going on?
What's up with that?
Yeah.
Yeah, so I had to go.
Troy, you look great.
I mean, what do you do to stay in such good shape?
I don't know.
I never got married.
Yeah, that'll help.
No, I mean, I probably should at one point.
No, I just, I've always been a fairly healthy eater.
I always stay active.
I always do something.
Even if it's like, oh, I missed a day.
I didn't run.
I'll get on my little total trainer thing and do like a set of squats or something.
Or I'll do, you know, let's watch in the baseball playoffs.
So I'll do like sit-ups in front of, you know, just, I always feel like I need to do something like that.
So, and I don't know, I just feel, I try to live somewhat stress-free life.
Yeah.
I've always been self-employed, so I didn't really worry about, you know, a boss or getting, you know, I don't know.
People said, Todd Hersock said that to me the other day.
He goes, bro, how old are you?
And I said, 64.
He goes, what?
Yeah.
He looks, look great.
He goes, I would think you're in the 40-something.
I mean, I went to, I swim at this pool, and the girl's like,
I said, I actually get the free swim now, 55 and above is, you know, free swim.
She goes, you're not a senior.
I go, yes, I am.
She goes, give me, get out of here.
Show me your ideas.
I show me your ideas.
I showed.
She goes, oh, my gosh, because I thought you were like 44.
I go, no, I'm swimming free.
Yeah.
I get the perks out.
I get Social Security.
Wow.
Yeah.
Well, really, you look great.
And, yeah, I saw one of your Instagrams recently.
I was like, yeah, it's like the choice thing.
I still got it.
I mean, you don't look much different than when you played on Survivor.
I played my, I played around was 50.
No, believe me.
Like, yeah, I feel, I feel like I could still play, honestly.
I mean, if they call me, I'd be like, yes, yes, yes, I'm ready to roll.
So, you know, maybe, who knows, fingers crossed, it's one of those like, now I feel like if I played, it'd be like I'd be 64 or next year, 65, I'd be the oldest winner.
Because, you know, obviously you want to go out to win, right?
Yeah.
I would be, right?
Would I be the oldest winner?
Yeah, definitely.
I think Bob is the oldest winner, and I think that he was in his 50s.
Yeah, so there you go, you know.
I mean, I always kind of like put, you know, age is really just the number thing.
But I never thought, I mean, when I was young, I thought 64, yeah, that's grandpa, man.
But I don't feel like that at all.
I don't know why.
I just, yeah.
Yeah, I like staying young.
I still do goofy stuff, hanging out in the jungle, chasing the squirrels around, you know.
jumping in the creeks you know
there's ponds sometimes
it's just you know it's Florida you know it's one of those
where like you'll see a natural pond
that's just someone dug out like down to the
eight foot down into the coral reef
and you know you can jump
in it you'll just jump in a pond
and you don't know what's in there
yeah well some yeah there's a pond just down
well now there's one down the street
and it's been well it's rained here
almost every day for two months now
seriously this is the first day in rain
and I look over I go that's a full on
pond right there but i mean i'm sure there's some snakes and things that you know maybe i shouldn't
just jump away if it was a waterfall i would do like running water yeah but you know just you see a pond
and your first thought is i want to jump in it yeah well i remember when i visited Hawaii we went on
this road to hon and there's like waterfalls with these ponds and i'm like i climbed to the top where all
the other tourists are staying down below and like i'm getting in whatever pond is in you know and sure
up and my girlfriend's like bro you have no idea what's in there what do you do it i just i just
buck naked just right in and like oh it's awesome the perfect water it's like as long as it's running
i feel like there's nothing in there you know and you know i'm close to the everglades i i haven't seen
a gator in my area but you know they are in the you know the waterways and you'll see them on the
side so but you know okay well this is a great opportunity to segue to talking about what
happened on the most recent episode of survivor as we're talking about
jumping into ponds and dangerous animals that we saw Jake medevac after getting bitten by
the sea crate.
I know you went to Fiji when you played.
You've been there also since you've played.
Did you ever see the sea crate?
All the time.
We were born of them.
I mean, even my first season in Samoa, which is the same waters.
Yeah.
We were born of this sea snake, the striped one, you know, and we knew.
And, you know, I was lucky.
I played with Jonas, who was like a sushi chef who knows even everything about this kind of poisonous, anything.
And Ty, he's very smart about it.
So it's like, Ty was always like, Tristan, you be careful.
That is a snake there.
You know, it's like constantly like, and they were around.
But they're very like skittish.
They just want to swim away.
They don't want.
That's why I was like, I was so curious, like, how did he actually get bit?
Because you never saw the full story.
Like you saw a snake on the sand, which could be B-roll.
You know, you see a snake, you know, where's the snake that actually bit him?
what was he doing was he trying to catch it for food did he actually just step was it a injured snake
that just got defensive i don't know we don't know any of these answers i'm like yeah
how do you know we're warning we get that book that they like they were talking about the book
of peat poisonous stuff we get that and we i saw them a lot we avoided them the plague but you know
part of me is like it was bound to have because the amount of sea snakes that i saw like the poisonous
this one what's it called the the secret secret you know i'm like someone's going to get bit at some
point because they're always there everywhere but i'm like did he just do something stupid i don't know
i don't know i want to the guy it's a good question because you know we saw in the episode he was
sitting by the water and they showed us that he was like reflecting on his family life and you know
his wife who wasn't there and and but he had confessionals about that so if he's doing confessionals
about, like, sitting in the water, then we know, okay, probably wasn't that same day
because they wouldn't have time to get the confessionals about the secret.
But probably that day that had happened, probably nobody was filming him when it actually
happened.
That's what I think.
He wasn't filmed at all.
So they just had to film whatever and then show the snake.
It's like they do that on, you know, make it an afraid or something.
They'll show, you know, some animal, but it's not even close to the camera, make it look like,
you know, I get it.
So what was going through your mind when you were watching it play out?
Well, when it first happened, I was like, first I knew, in a sense,
if they're going to show all this medevac stuff and all these things,
he's going to be out of the game.
They're not going to show all this extra stuff without this drama.
And at the end, with tears, I think this is coming.
My only thought is because I know how it feels to be there.
And I know how I would feel if Jeff looks at me and goes, you're out.
I would get tears in my.
I got, you know, watch it.
I don't usually get emotional, emotional, but I got a little sad, like, just because
it's like, I know the feeling that, and he was doing fairly well, and, you know, and he was
rolling along and kind of the leader of his tribe and doing the, the shoe hiding thing,
which has been done, you know, been there, done that.
Yeah.
And so, but I was first bummed out, but then I'm like, well, wait a second, it's a dry bite.
It's a dry bite.
There's no venom.
I'm like, okay, why doesn't this guy say, listen, it's my life.
You know, I know my kids come, but like we sign that fricking document, which is 200 pages.
We look at it.
We sign our life.
Listen, if you die, you know, your parents aren't responsible.
You know, you sign away your life, basically.
Yeah.
So if I want to play and stay, because, I mean, I have a story, and I told this story before about Ty and myself pitching this eel.
You know, biting the hell out of Ty's hand.
and you know
no tell me that
I don't remember this story
I've told this story
another podcast sorry
but it is another
I'll tell it again
good people like it
on this on my second season
I was with Ty
it's like day 30 something
I go tie
we're starving
and every day on low tide
I see a bunch of eels
down in the coral rocks
we'll go there
and we'll low tide
and we'll get this eel
he goes oh yeah
Troy said I ain't know
we're gonna catch this eel
we got a lot of meat in it
I go okay cool
so he goes
so we're out there
and he's putting his hand down
and he's getting
bit, right? And he goes, oh, yeah, there's a eel. There's a eel. And I go, and he pulls his hand up. He got like five bite marks on. Blood's coming. I go, bro, what are you doing? He goes, oh, no, I'm going to try. He keeps putting his hand down. He keeps coming up with blood. Ah, I'm screaming. And he goes, listen, we've got to get this eel. And I'm like, yeah, but your hand's getting bit to hell. He goes, if I'm going to do a final one, I'm going to let it hold on to my finger. I'm going to pull it up. And he's like, then you're going to kill it. You're going to smash it with the rock. And so he's like, ah, he got me, try that, try that, get it. He pulls it up. He pulls it up. I'm like, he pulls it. I'm like, he pulls it. I'm
rock going slam slams and he's like and then he's like kill it kill it and he's like he turned
into like not tie i mean if sea would have seen that she's like no no no forget it no yeah because he
was screaming like it was like charlie's over the wire and he's like hit the deck like he was
screaming i'm like oh my god who's this guy well i kill this we kill it and then he starts sobbing
he's like feeling remorse like i'm so sorry mr eel i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry he's going to kill
I'm sorry. I'm trying to go, Ty, it's fine. He's gone. He's food. He's hugging me. He's grabbing my face. He gives me a kiss. I got blood on my face. Bloods on him. You know, eels in the hand. And I'm like, this has to make the show. I mean, come on. It's like, this is a crazy. The guy's filming the whole thing. And then he shows it's like walking away. You know, blood dripping from our hands, eel in the eel in the hand, dragging it along. And, you know, tie with at least 20 bites in him.
And I'm like, those got to get infected.
And sure enough, they probably did, but, like, he didn't go out of the game.
And there's, you know, we get cuts and scrapes.
I got two scrapes on my shins on both sides that were infected.
The whole time I was there.
Yeah.
And I'm like, I didn't go out.
So part of me is like two little dry bites.
And they're saying, like, we can't take a chance because it just like you're tired and the hunger.
And I'm like, what?
Like, I, I didn't buy it.
At least I didn't buy the edited part.
it could something can be different you know how it does everything yeah it's in a certain way and i'm just
more like you've got to kill me to get i broke i tore my ACL in the game changers yeah and and
played two weeks with a torn ACL you know i feel like that with like those leg injuries and things
like that i feel like they let that go i think that i think feel like that maybe after and as you
you played in game changers which was after calibs uh first season beast mode cowboy i i feel like that
it's more of like an insurance issue where that if anything happens to these uh players and i just
think that they can't do the show but it's like i think that there's so much so many safety
measures i i if something had were bad were to happen i tend to agree with that because like
honestly say say say they thought it was a drive-by but you know a slight ounce of venom got in
and he really did like lose you think people are going to point i mean they would be like what a
what a bunch of idiots what's what is survivor doing you know what i mean the the the outcome of a
bad would be worse than you know then rolling the dice and saying like well you know we'll
keep him in just for you know yeah and i'm sure he would have stayed uh that he would have like
wanted to do it but i just think that like the show is like um we can't take any kind of chances
like that so it was uh very sad uh to see jake ultimately go um i know
but all right um as far as the rest of these players go how are you feeling about survivor for next we haven't spoken in the new era i i feel like you're an old school guy you're a traditionalist you have like been with the show since the beginning of trying to get on from way back when so how are you feeling about the new era in general well i'll never quite look at it the same as the old school and i'm kind of glad i'm old called old school because when i first played i'm like
I wasn't old school.
24 was like middle school.
Hey, guess what?
I can now say you're in the first half of Survivor now.
No, so I'm a true old school.
Because I always used to talk to the old school people when I got out of my first season.
They're like, bro, you're like an old school player.
Lex would be like, you're old school for 100%.
You know, Shane, yeah, you're old school, bro.
What are you talking about?
So it's like, you know, it's just for me, I've always said,
and as much as Jeff likes to say, you know, it's 26 days,
but we starve them and they're more tired and it's this.
And it's that, I'm like, it's 26 days compared to 39.
You'll never convince me it's the same because you can't compare being tired for 14 more days or however more day.
What is it?
14 extra days more?
Yeah, 13, yeah.
13 days.
You can't compare the strategizing and the mental game for that many more days.
And I always compared it.
I said like this, the NFL football game is four quarters long or any, it's always been four quarters long, right?
and the field is 100 yards long and 50 yards.
It's been that way forever.
Now next year they're like, oh, we're going to play three quarters
and we're going to shorten the field and we're going to call it the same game.
No, it's not the same game.
It's different.
It's like it's still Survivor.
It's not as Survivor-ish to me anymore.
It's a little more kumbaya, which I always like drama.
I think if you talk to any old school people, maybe they won't speak publicly.
I mean, I still love Survivor.
a huge fan. I'm never going to put down
Survivor and be like, oh, it sucks.
You know, I look at the ratings, and I'm
like, oh, ratings are pretty
down, they're down, man, they're down.
Like, we don't, don't, don't, I'm like,
seriously, I'm like, can I cuss on this show?
No one. Yeah, you can, I'll let
Trisand be Trisand. I'm kind of like, you know,
don't fuck up our show. Don't
fuck my show. Don't, you're
going to get taken off the air. So I'm like,
you better get going, you know, do something people
to, you know, get the ratings going. Because I would look at the
ratings, and the ratings were low, the first, the
first episode, I mean, they were
dropped. Yeah. Like 17
percent or something like that. I'm like, that's
a lot in the TV world.
I mean, one percent's a lot. 17 percent?
What are you doing? People like, so
Barbie's like, I don't know if it's like
too much kumbaya. You know,
people say they like to watch good
moments. Like, you know, like the Jake is kind of
like it's sad, but it's still a good
moment. And, you know, something
that happened. But people like drama.
I'm sorry. There always has to be good versus
evil or someone's bad or someone's not.
As much as you don't like Brandon Hans, going, I'll pissing their eyes and I'll do this.
Guess what?
Who are you watching the next week?
Him.
It's like when they're on a freeway and a car's on fire.
They're slow down to zero and said, watch.
Oh, God, it's terrible.
Yeah, but I'm still looking.
What do I, what do I see?
Yeah.
So I'm going to see some train wrecks.
So what about a train wreck tribe?
Is that enough of a train wreck to get you to keep watching?
A little bit.
Like, I don't mind when you dwindled that, like that tribe of, well, what do they call?
the blue tribe.
The Tala tribe, I believe.
Yeah, it's like they're losing all the, all the tribal island names are gone so they're
coming up with some random.
Yeah, there's just random words.
Tuwa and Nuku and.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I don't mind that.
I mean, the season started a little, I'm like, I don't know.
It's like, yeah, these people, you know, I just feel like, I mean, I always compare them to
like, and I think it's also sad that they don't have a name of the.
season i don't like just a number it's too and i i've heard this in the secret conversations that
you have with survivors i don't know 41 to 47 who's on there's all mixed together it's all one
giant 40 and that sucks for the for the for the contestants because i'm like if you say survivor
china you can name off like 10 people you name off if you say africa if you say token change you can
you're you're instantly kind of zoned into that name
and you know the players. You're more invested in them. You feel like you know them.
These, I'm like, they're just getting mixed up in a sense. That's my take on it. I don't,
I wish they would be like 49 caught something. I mean, come on. Why not? Yeah. You know, Jeff has
talked about how that it's hard to come up with the themes because I feel like they want the themes
to be so much of like what the show is about where they want to keep like harkening back to it
and like making every conversation about the theme.
But, you know, in Survivor One World, it was just like, here's the idea.
Everybody's going to start on One Tribe.
That's it.
They weren't like the whole show wasn't about like so.
As somebody who lives on One Tribe, like it's just like, okay, this is Survivor and here's
the little bit of a wrinkle that we're doing on this season.
Yeah.
I mean, I still think they could come up.
I mean, they came up with names for 40 seasons.
I mean, come on.
Get their heads together and come up with.
the name i just that's just me i i i don't if someone says a name i said i don't know if they're
41 or two or three unless a winner yeah i might i might know the number but you know it's like
i or a standout player you know i might be like okay caroline season 44 100 you know or d 45 i mean
that kind of stuff i you know but everybody i just feel bad because i feel like it's got a
be a name you know when people say one world i know they go oh god sucks but like at least they
they know it. It's like, you know, or they'll be like, someone will be like, oh, one world, man.
I just like, it's Troy. I say, yeah, but guess what? You're still talking about it.
Still talking about it. Right.

so do you have any favorites from this season 49 um yeah kind of you know it's funny
i always could ask you have a favorite i always had a favorite when i before i played always a couple
favorites once i played i never picked favorite i just was like more like i should be out i want to be
out there i don't have some favorite person so um i if i go to each tribe i kind of have to like
Savannah's playing a good game
I do like this sage girl. I don't know what
there's something about her that I like.
There's either like she's maybe
because she's getting slightly bullied.
I don't know whether, what it is.
Savannah seems like she's playing a fairly good
game, but she's almost going too hard.
She's going to get, you know,
I got to kind of, and I don't
mind Nate because he's the old school guy. He's like, you know,
he doesn't understand. I'd be the same role.
What's the words? I got to figure.
I mean, you know
if something is a vibe, right?
Right. Yeah, I know a vibe. Yeah. Yeah. Like, suss, and this guy, so I had to ask me, what's the suss thing? And they're like, and then there's other, every year there's a new word. So I'll have to ask my nieces and nephews, like, what's that actually me? You know, so, yeah, okay, Troy Zan, yeah, our uncle Troy. So, you know, I did like Jake, um, uh, on the other tribe. It's kind of tough because they're down to two. So it's kind of like, you know, it's just, it's Alex and Sophie, right? Yeah.
I mean, I'm pulling for them, and I think now there's actually good luck that they have lost in my mind because guess what?
Now they're not a threat.
They're a number.
They're going to go a long ways because as long as they say, hey, I'll vote the way you want to vote.
They could get all the way to six or whatever.
And then who knows what's happened.
I just feel like that's a good thing.
Yeah.
Honestly.
Yeah.
Okay.
So right after you played on Survivor One World, we watched Survivor Philippines and we saw Malcolm and Denise end up being the two people who came out.
out of their Matt Singh tribe.
Do you feel like that there's a possibility for Alex and Sophie to be these, like,
basically like the season is about these two people who come out of this train wreck?
I do.
Well, they're getting, they're getting, they're getting, they're getting,
I think she's getting a lot of confession.
I always look at confessionals and things.
I'm like, okay, they're getting that, you know, like either they're going home tonight
because they got a lot of confessionals or they're, you know, getting towards the end.
But no, I really do because you can all, all,
to hear the yellow and the red's like, yeah, the merge, okay, it's going to be, you know,
we're going to take out these yellows and the red.
So, like, they're just going to hang on and be like, which way you want us to go.
You know, I mean, it's going to be a split next week, right?
Most likely.
Yeah, so it seems like they're going to have two tribes finally.
And they haven't had two tribes since Survivor 40.
I'm happy about that.
I don't like the three tribes.
Because they have to switch.
Now it's like I can see more time in one, in one camp and then another.
and they can show camp life and things.
When they do three tribes, there's too much time.
They can't show enough.
Even though it's an hour and a half now.
I'm kind of jealous.
I wish we had an hour and a half.
Don't you wish you had an hour and a half?
I mean, that would be nice, right?
Yeah, they show a lot of stuff.
So it's like, they're always still like they're missing out.
So, yeah, I think, honestly, Alex and Sophie, they're in a good spot because
where are they going to go?
They're always going to be the low man on the totem pole, and someone's going to say,
as long as you vote are away, and they'll show their loyal vote.
and then who knows what they can find
or, you know, I don't know.
It's like, Survivor changes daily.
Chases hourly.
So they're in a good spot.
The Yellow Tribe, I'm like, who do I like?
I'm happy for Jason, honestly,
because being an alternate is like,
here's the, you know, we're just in the carrot.
Here it is.
It's right in front of it.
You're going to be on Survivor.
Oh, no, you're an alternate.
You just got to sit here and just twiddle your thumbs
and ponderos.
I'm like, oh, that would kill me.
The fact that he's playing, and he's playing well.
Yeah.
I like that.
You don't pick kind of nerdy guys like that, but he's cool.
Yeah.
Yeah, and I, Matt's a cool guy, but he's too me.
Yeah.
And everyone, emcee, it looks like she's doing fairly well.
Sophie, I don't see a lot of.
I don't really know.
She's been quiet, yeah.
And Christina, is she doing something?
Also quiet.
You know, the yellow, they're sort of like the victims of their own success.
They've done too well.
We don't see them.
That's tough when you win a lot.
Because that happened on my second season.
I was on the, we only split three ways, and I was on Tuwa.
We just kept winning and winning.
All they showed was winning, nothing around camp.
None of that dynamics with Ozzy and Surrey were fighting, and Sarah was in that tribe,
and Andrew was in that tribe, and Zeke.
They didn't show any of it.
So it's like, we just missed that.
We kept winning.
So it's like, if you lose, it's almost like, okay, you get a good edit.
Yeah.
Well, especially when there's three tribes, because when there's two tribes, you know,
they have to show what's going on at the other camp.
But then with three tribes, if your tribe isn't going to tribal council, then, you know, it makes it very easy just to sort of like sweep through like the tribes that are losing.
You know, you see them.
And unless you like go on a reward, we don't really see all of the tribes all the time.
Almost like when you know a tribe loses, like, okay, now we're going to see them.
We're going to see a lot more.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that's where they're at it's going.
So, you know, but then again, the beginning of the season always kind of just.
take everything with a grain of salt because I'm like after the merge that's when you start
to remember people and see really people like in general that's who you remember for the seasons
in general yeah so it's like so so new it's like I don't know you know you mentioned that
you were on the tribe and you saw Ozzie and Surrey fighting and listen um I'd be remiss to not ask
you more about that because we know Survivor 50 is coming up they're going to
both be on that season 50 do you feel like that uh is there a possibility that there's
bad blood there i think there always will be because people there was a lot of things that people
didn't see on tavua my first day in who was there can you remind me yeah siri sarah yeah
and zeke aussy myself okay that was the low guy i was like the brand new guy they had been together
so i'm like i'm out that's why i even said to and you're like in my
out like and I'm like I knew I had to find an idol like I saw you know it's one of those and
the first day within the first hour it was just me and Cerey sitting there she goes
Ozzy has an idol I'm like what just he didn't have one it just was the line set out there
to let me think Ozzy's suspicious he's suss yeah so you knew suss the kids would say no
I didn't know suss there now you know it you wanted to like put the and then Ozzie took
me aside down to the well hey bro you know what are we going to do you know serris this and that
and blah blah blah you know so actually surreal is kind of a target because sarah said something to me
as well so she's like you don't not have to worry they kept saying don't worry but i'm like i don't
like that you don't have to worry so i i look for i ended up finding a clue that day right
yeah and then found that you know it was where you have to get it in the in the challenge
the challenge which is crazy to do it's like it's way harder than you think so
I think there's going to be, I don't think there's ever good blood.
I think they might act like they are.
I mean, in the edit and in game change, you saw them shaking hand and everything.
That's all just BS.
Like that's out the door.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I'm surprised.
Yeah.
We'll see.
Maybe she'll, you know, you know, porn star versus the, uh, cow's potato.
No, did you have a good relationship with Ozzie?
Because I feel like that you guys, no.
Not at all.
See, because I'm surprised by that because I kind of feel like that.
you guys both have sort of like this like outdoorsy type background and like uh so just
realize he was so ego you know mr alpha guy telling everyone what that should do in camp and he was
just barking the orders all the stuff you didn't see you know i just was and he's like tell him to
shut up tell him to this i said i'm the lot i'm not the guy that's i'm the low guy i can't just say
whatever i was like you know and he just never i don't know i just watching him i like to
him being around him
I just did not like
his personality. He was not
a good guy.
It seemed phony.
Talking about just
you know, spiritual
thing. That's all seemed phony to me.
Even like, you know, survivors
say, you know, substance
substance, what do they say? It's a
microcosm of society
and he's just, I don't know.
And it's just, I feel like he, I don't want
to say too much. I just felt like he's, I just
felt like he's just, he just
was jerky. And even after the show he was
jerky, he was like, the vibe wasn't good
with you and him. Someone's
asked me like, what do you, Troy's end is? He goes, who?
Yeah. Come on.
Don't be an asshole.
Yeah. You act like you don't know my name.
Come on. Are you stupid?
Okay.
I like Thoree. I mean, we got along
well. We never played. Like, every morning, she
like, flip, she grabbed my flip flops.
And she goes, hey, got to have your flip flops.
Troy's out. Yeah, go ahead. Whatever, you know.
wait she wasn't hiding one of them like jake right
hiding uh one of your shoes
no no no she would ask you know she did because she didn't have she liked my flip
flop yeah because yeah well she didn't know she didn't want to go barefoot she's like
you know Troy's damn what's up man it's like you know it was always deuces it was like in the
morning she says deuces Troy I go okay deuces not sure what that means but let's do it
deuces what you know like so is like wait was she going down to the water is that like
code of like I guess I don't know what our
Our code was always like, you know, going to see a man about a horse.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah, and we're going to the grove.
So, but Ty's, I got it all mixed up one more.
He goes, okay, guys, I'm going to go see the horse man.
Yeah.
Like, what the, what?
The horse?
No, you're going to see a guy about a horse.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
All right.
So, who else from Survivor 50 do you know from your, from your, from your
travels sarah very well i know sandra very i talked to santa from 50 from 50 oh from 50
yeah so telling who's on like i don't i don't you know i never did the fall on you know i got
hints of playing then what you may be playing and i just never say nothing i just be as quiet you know
like yeah so did they reach out to you about 50 i did get reached out but i don't say that i mean
what's the like you so they make myself look like whatever and i i and i and i and i and i and i
Anytime, you know, it's like there's this pregame talk and this and that.
And I've done that with Game Changer.
It just doesn't work.
Like people think it's fun talk, but it's out the door.
It just means nothing, at least in my experience, it's like, you know.
So I don't know who, like, okay, coach is on.
I mean, let's name me some plays.
Well, okay.
Well, how about coach that do you have a relationship with coach?
I don't know relationship with him
but I did
he called me right out of my first season
and he was doing some kind of
maybe oops what happened
I just click you're good
I am I can't see myself anymore
okay well whatever
why can I see myself
maybe you just minimize it
I minimize you I just see you in a small little
picture it says picture in a picture
yeah okay anyway
no coach I don't know
I've only talked to him once on the phone
I was supposed to meet up with him
and Ben
who sees you know Ben the guitar player and they want me to come some concert and so like
I was going to talk to him then but I have no I don't really well how about Aubrey did
you ever have any interaction with Aubrey from Game Changers I was I was super close for a long
time with Aubrey like we played you know not really together on the show but she was
kind of always bummed out and sad because she wasn't really getting me any footing in game
changers I'm like Aubrey you're good still in the game this and that you know and she ended up
going pretty far, you know, and it's like, and we got real close as well on the island.
It never got shown that way.
But out after the show for the first, like, I don't know, two, three, four years, we talked a lot.
Yeah.
You know, and she invited me out to her third season.
She, you know, she got an Airbnb and I hung out, stayed with her parents in this Airbnb
and went to the finals.
And we used to talk all the time.
We talked about goofy, crazy, you know, UFO stuff.
Oh, yeah.
I remember this.
Yeah.
And I'm like, I said, I said,
I swear to God, there's an alien's going to land in my backyard.
And I'm going to be like, Andrew, it happened. It happened.
So I've always liked that.
I just haven't talked to her in quite a while, almost since she's had her baby.
And I think she got married, but she did have a kid.
Yeah, she's a baby, yep.
It's been a while, a year or something.
But I'm rooting for Aubrey.
I think she's a good plan.
And I think in this season, she'll be good.
I think, you know, we'll see.
But sometimes things change when you have a baby and you leave.
And it's like, I think your priorities, even to win, you've got to be so dialed in.
Yeah.
You know, you know how it is.
It's like you have to be like selfish in a sense.
You can't, you need other people, but you have to have this mentality of like, it really is just a game.
I can't get that emotionally close to somebody if I want to win.
If I want to have a good time and an adventure and, you know, be crazy so I can get on other shows, then great.
But I think to win, you guys.
got to be selfish at some point and vote out your best friend.
How about Stephanie LaGrosa?
Did you ever have any interaction with her?
I've talked to Stephanie a little bit.
She lives in Florida.
I mean, we've only had chats to like, you know, at the charity events and things.
And I did do a kind of like during COVID, I think for her season, I did like, I kind
of hosted, you know, a reunion show for her.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
So we kind of talked a little bit.
I think she's smart enough to where like, yeah, she.
you know, 50 is going to be weird
because I, you know, it's hard to say
you know, how the tribes are going to be
split. It's hard to say, you know,
how's the new schoolers going to fit in
with the, you know, I don't know, man.
It's like, I had my own ideas
what they should have done for 50 and
I think they can't, I mean,
until, if I watch, what should they have done?
They, this 50 season,
50, come on CBS.
50 people. It should be huge.
This should have been the best.
biggest season ever and they should have done back-to-back seasons part one part two why not get
every person in america involved in this thing you do a normal season starting like february
mar whatever and then you do part two for the summer you know how many freaking people will watch that
goddamn show what do you mean part two what do you how do you want to do it 50 people yeah 50 people's
50 days first season 25 days you do the last you do the last 25 days on on season
two in the summer the whole country watches it everybody's like did you see what's happening on
season one you got to talk me through how this is going to work okay so all right so there's
season one starts with 50 people and we get it down to like 25 people by the end of season one
there's no winner start out season you know season one has 50 people on the sand and it's like
you have you can go from season to season pick out the best what you think is the legendary player
It doesn't have to do it.
And that's probably how many, not including returner season.
So that's 40-something seasons.
Okay.
They go back and you go to the season like, well, we need at least pick.
These two or three can come from this season.
So you get 50.
It's easy.
Get 50 solid, legendary.
It just has to be a legendary freaking sale.
Are you kidding me?
Like I'm going 50.
What other reality show?
It's like it could have been the biggest season.
50 people on the beach.
And then you eliminate right away a bunch of people, but you do 25.
days they do 26 oh okay 25 days that's good there we go and it's like cut it down real quick
but like it's total chaos in the first season and then the last the second half in the summer it's
like oh dude do you see who's left on this let's it like this is crazy shit like i mean everybody's
playing everybody because then everybody's happy in a sense i feel you know and you and you got
that way it's kind of like it's equaled out you can't take
the new era and make it the majority or even 50%.
That doesn't represent all the seasons.
Yeah.
It represents one fifth, right?
Right, right?
So get a fifth of the people.
You know, whatever it is.
What's one fifth of 20?
That's how many people you got on the new season.
Come on.
See, I'm like, Jeff, call me in.
I don't even part of production, but I think that's an awesome idea, bro.
Come on.
So I feel like what they could have done,
kind of similar to what you're saying is that I think that 49 could have been some kind of like new era all stars and then you have 50 and then it's more of like a legend season and then you have a couple people who like did good in the 49 returning player like second chances from the new era put some of them also then into survivor 50 well to me you take maybe one from 49 because you even out and people are going to be like
okay, you're on 50, really, just because you were on 49?
I don't know.
Yeah.
Well, if it was second chance, if it was new era second chances,
then I think that people, I think, would be a little bit more accepting of it
where somebody, like, comes in and does so great in the new era second chances
as opposed to somebody who's just a first timer on 49 going to 50.
I don't see that.
What's it good, you know, I know, here's the deal, too.
I've heard, you know, I think the super, the super.
fans and the ones that follow podcasts and that that group you know which is a fairly small
group to the amount of people of americans that walk the show you know they'll get all pissy
like i want to see rouselhans i want to see this person again and blahbony blah but the general
public i think does they want to see poverty again they want to see you know those names i mean
i get all the time i get stopped twice oh my god like you know and then they'll be like you know
you talk to boston rob i go yeah and it's you know they just that's automatic in their heads
So I feel like any, bro, you should be on three.
Are you kidding me?
Like, you should be on 50.
I mean, 100%.
Who doesn't know your name?
Give a break.
A lot of people.
A lot of people.
So you think that they should have brought back like the, you know, a lot of the heavy
hitters that they had in Survivor 40.
They should have brought back for 50.
Why not?
People like watching an all-star game was like saying, I'm not going to bring Michael Jordan
back just because we've seen him so many times.
No, you bring the guy back.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It is a little weird that they are doing this big season.
And then I guess they felt like that it was like,
season 40 was like the last time for all those people.
But then,
it's like Jeff put his,
40's just going to,
and it's going to be,
okay,
a brand new,
and I don't even know if they should call it Survivor anymore
because there's not a survival going on.
And it's not the same show.
It's basically,
it's the Jeff Prope show with Survivors.
The name of the show.
The Jeff Prope Show with Survivor.
He knows it.
He allowed.
I would laugh. I mean, you're saying that. He would laugh.
Yeah.
I mean, you get a lot of him with Jeff, you know, every time I would come into a challenge or whatever, I'd smile, I'd look at me, like, you wink, you wink at me, like, you're having fun.
You know, he knows I, I mean, I love a ghost out there.
But, you know, I just think it's like, Jeff, you don't have to look in the camera.
And just, you know, you don't, you're good at what you did.
Like, you're the best, bro.
Like, you just, your survivors ready going, you know, calling out the challenges.
And the best, I mean, tribal council.
the absolute best at just going from one to that no mic no earphone no this you know ask this
question just going from one knows everything going on but now it's like i don't know it's kind of
like i don't know there's some cheesy stuff going on i don't like little cheesy and the
and the overexitement with these tribes coming in and they're saying i guess he's a little
funny nobody likes it when the tribes like do like a cheer when they come in
do i like to cheer nobody likes it no i don't like to cheer i mean we all we were we were all generally
excited all the time you didn't come in you know oh you know it's it's just pre-made and i think to
now the majority of the players know that they're on survivor know they're being filmed and
they know they're going to do their social media shit after the show's done so they do
stuff to play up to that.
We didn't do that. We had the cameras. We knew we were going to be on TV, but that wasn't
our main deal. I feel like a solid 80% of these new eras know they're going to be on TV,
the cameras are there, play up to that, do some things that are playing. That's how they're
cast it. Like so, and know that they're going for the social media. Because people post,
how many followers did they get this week? How many did they get?
Oh, you know, like that, that's the important.
Survivor, the show, Survivor, it's called Survivor.
You know, eat rats, you know, cut your leg, do something.
You fall on the fire.
Cut your leg.
Get mad at each other.
Get pissed off.
If some votes you out, they just took your million dollars.
Put them off.
Don't go, oh, I love you guys.
Have a great life and everything's wonderful here.
Let me.
Kumbaya, my Lord.
Kumbaya, Kumbaya, Lord.
Come by you. Come on.
Yeah.
Tim's new craveable raps
are made for the times your boss said the what now?
Or your teacher mentions that thingamabob.
Need to pick me up.
Snack back to reality with Tim's new craveable wraps
available in Chipotle or Ranch.
Plus tax at participating restaurants in Canada for a limited time.
Yeah, so, okay, as somebody who once said,
this is my island, that you must not love it
when somebody gets voted out.
and you know it's like hey good good job everybody you got me
no i don't like that because and then ends it with jeff can i get a hug too
yeah see you know and before it was like a big jeff didn't touch anybody i mean people even made
a big deal about me fist bumping jeff when i did the this is my island episode
it's like i think you know in hindsight yeah at first people like dude this this is my on
this guy's a jerk and this is that it's like but you're most survivors you're only known for a few
things you know you're kind of known like you're you know your confessional's in like your tribal
council with your you know who's the who's the DJ Casey case him you know you're known for
certain things and I'm known for me like you're the guy yelled this is my island don't F with me right
yeah it's me and it's like if that's all you know that's that's fine I don't mind that but like
I just feel like you know when someone I just always loved it when people got pissed off when they
got voted out I mean you remember Michaela when she went cuckoo like yeah you know like and just
who was on Guatemala with this kid
that guy that got me. He was
Judd. He got on opening up. I just like
people getting pissed. You know, like Sue
her speech and just
I like it. That's drama.
I don't, you know, we don't need to see.
I don't think the general public watches
it to see happy, happy, happy.
And I know Jeff wanted like, this is
a celebration and it's
everyone's happy and it's Survivor.
No, that's not how Survivor got
popular. If you look back, that's not
how Survivor got popular.
no it's not and it's a good point because i do feel like that they do want the show to be like very
positive and they want the show like when so much of the world isn't positive but that's also
maybe not like why we fell in love with this show also but that's fake i mean if there's not
positivity in the world and a lot of shit's happening guess what they still go watch game of thrones
and get someone's head cut off they still watch people still do that stuff i mean it's just it's what
it is i mean we're living in a it's it's it's people like to have for whatever drama in their
lives because it's like they maybe they want to figure out like what they would do in that drama
situation you know i don't know it's like it's always for this long as humans have been alive
it's good versus evil yeah and right i think that also people can have drama on the island
and then afterwards they can be okay with each other like you can have it out with somebody on
survivor and then be great
friends after. This happened with my
cast. I have been to Kim's house
four times to come out with their kids.
You know, Uncle Troy's
is in the backyard on the picnic table with Kim's
kids? Yeah. So you, yeah, most
the time, the cast get, you know, as
much as crap said, unless
it's really a physical thing, which
rarely happens. It's kind of one of those like
no rules in Survivor except
you can't punch somebody, you can't hit somebody
either you're out. But, you know, there's been
a few little mishaps here.
here and there. You know, we know about those. I'd love to know a little bit more about your background
and your lifestyle, because you have a very interesting life in terms of like your whole set up.
And, you know, I'm, but I'm curious because I also feel like that you have these, you have these two
sides of you where, you know, you have like this Trojan persona, but also you had your career also
in modeling and acting and I'm just trying to like wonder like at what point did you
pivot from that to going into you know your whole like setup where I feel like you kind of live
on a preserve yeah well I live on a 10 acre jungle and it's a tree there's trees everywhere you can
go to spots where like you got to kind of go through the jungle and no one believes me but I've
had different people visit you know Andrea's
come here, Christina, Jay, Chelsea, Tarzan, you know, a lot of people from Survivor, like,
bro, you live in a jungle, you really did live in a jungle.
You know, I got animals in the backyard.
I was telling you, I got an iguana just the other day, like six foot of guana just cruising
across the backyard.
Yeah, I mean, to me, it switched almost like when Survivor came out.
I don't know what it is.
I've always been an outdoor guy.
I've always been this like, I love nature, love animals, you know, fan of Jane.
good all when I was young and all this yeah i was just i was the jungle book was my favorite i was this
little mowgli kid running around when i was young my family is like who's just a kid he's always
just running around in shorts no shirts you know but i was different than anybody in my family i'm darker
skinned i'm just you know feel like i don't know if you're all in the same family and when survivor
came on in 2000 i was just what is this whatever this is i need to be a part of and
then little i mean i told this story a bunch of times it took me 11 years to get on the show i mean
you could sending 22 you know audition tapes year after year and i finally made it and that that year
i just started to grow my hair out a little bit because when i modeled and then i became a photographer
i just kept my hair short but i'm like i don't know maybe i'll grow my hair out because i just don't
need to have it short anymore and as when lynn's film was like do not cut your hair you just it looks good
it's like he's got this thing da da da you look like he belong on the show yeah
It's funny because people like, something like, well, you belong, everybody belongs on the show that makes it.
But like, why is a person that's got long hair and his name is Troyes and I guess looks like he belongs on it more?
That's really all it was was the you grew your hair out and that's what they got them to say yes.
Kind of.
Well, I made a videotape in Fiji that was shot professionally by the Sports Illustrated guy.
We were shooting Sports Illustrated swimsuit at the time.
I included some swimsuit models in my audition thing, which they said, this has got to get you on the show.
I mean, Chrissy Tegan's in my audition.
video so it's like i got a call late in july which i thought the season was over and i told this
story before it's like you know i'm like oh my god i didn't make it's another season going by how is
possible like and i just got this fall at midnight and it's like what who's calling me at midnight
and you made the video in fiji and yeah and then you end up eventually being back in fiji it's
crazy with the secrets i know yeah the secrets it's like you know and
and avoiding the, we, we would use to swim and the sea crates would go by us, like close,
but then you'd move and they just squiggle away.
They don't want anything to do with you.
I got snakes on the property.
Any snake here, if they see you, they bowl.
We have one dangerous one that could kill you like a crate.
We've got the coral snake.
It's like this long, and if it bites you, you could be dead in like an hour.
So luckily, nothing's, you know, I've always had to, I've had them, I've seen them.
I don't kill them.
I don't kill anything.
I just kind of shoe them and they go back in the coral rocks.
And yeah, so, yeah, I live on a jungle.
I do live a different life than I did before as a photographer.
And I was a model for 12 years.
And I did some acting.
I was in a TV show called Dark Justice way back in the day.
It's like I was a detective powers.
Yeah.
I was like, I posted something on Instagram.
They're like, what is that?
And I did TV commercials, you know, Winston's cigarette commercials.
You don't know they no longer do your commercial.
Bacardi rum whatever and yeah so I mean I live alone I've been single for forever it's like
you know um yeah I don't know yeah I just like I live in just a different lifestyle and
most of you like don't you get lonely I go yeah sometimes I do but like you know I got my doggy
and I've kind of like learned to just I don't know be Zen mode you know yeah is it always just
you there do you have like roommates no it's just me and my dog and then i i have adopted a
there was a cat that was just wild running around and there's a kitten forever like this two
or three years ago i go how's that kitten surviving then i'd seem like catch a lizard and eat it and
like oh that's what he's doing he's catching rats lizards and then and then little by little he just
started coming around my dog would chase him and then my neighbor's like well i want to feed that cat
i said no if you feed it then it then it's going to rely on you she was no i would i like that cat a lot
She would bring over food.
She goes, could you feed him?
And so little by little, I kind of gave in.
Now, his name's tink, which is a stupid name.
Tank?
Tink.
Tink.
He's a male cat, like a salt.
Like, Tink.
What's that about?
So he comes around.
He's a gray cat.
He's got, like, green eyes, and he stays out at night.
He comes into the house, like, when it's raining or, like, looking for food and jump
around.
So, like, it's, yeah, it's me, the dog, and the cat.
And it's like, yeah.
So would I like to have a person in my life?
Yeah.
Because I'm at the point now where it's like, I've kind of like, I've had girlfriends before.
My last girlfriend was actually, but it was like 15 years ago.
Yeah.
Like, you know, I've been through some tumultuous, is that the word?
Just relationships that just didn't go well.
And it was super heartbroken.
Yeah.
So it's like, part of me is like trying to avoid that, which is stupid.
And yeah, if I meet somebody and it works out, you know, I'm not like closed off because I, I'm, like,
like now it's like I can travel or I can have somebody in another city and I'll be like I'll
go there for a while and come back here and there's no rules for me okay how did you go from
being somebody in front of the camera to being somebody who's holding the camera I was always
fascinated with photography even when I was young I bought a camera way back when I worked at a ski shop
in Spokane Washington about a can and is that where your family is from yeah Spokane yeah
Okay.
Because that's not Florida, you know?
No, it's the opposite course.
Yes.
I mean, I grew up in, I grew up a mountain man.
Flannel shirts, jeans, cutting down wood in the winters, you know, chopping wood, chewing tobacco, went to Central Valley High School, cow, cow pastures in the, you know, yeah.
Yeah.
Hicks, rednecks.
You know, I go to reunions and they're like, they think I'm like some, you know, red, like, I'm like completely opposite of my friends.
you know but yeah so what was i at we were talking about before that yeah yeah so uh you
grown up there and you work at the ski shop oh yeah so i bought the that's where i bought the
camera my first camera because i was fascinating with photography i remember looking at sports
illustrated you could buy the magazine then i see the pictures and i see who shot it then i'd look at
national geography i go this is amazing so i just bought a camera didn't know anything how to photograph
anything set the aperture set the film speech set the shutter speed I knew nothing I just
learned on my own I bought a book and it says how to do this and little by little I just learn
more like from the streets and then I I moved to California in 1985 and just packed up my
transam my 78 transam you know with the big you know like smoking the bandit yeah everything I
owned and just drove south I five and just ended up like I had a friend who said come
down here and I moved down and then he goes, you should start modeling. You like a pretty good
looking guy. Cut your hair a little bit. Maybe you can model. I'm like, okay, I'll give it a shot.
So I did. I got an agency and then you start to do TV commercials. Then it leads into some acting
stuff. So I did that for like 12 years. I moved to Europe. I lived in Europe for like four or five
years all over, you know, in Munich, Germany, and Barcelona, Spain, Madrid, London, Switzerland,
you know, you kind of do the European tour. And so,
when I was modeling, I would always be fascinated with the photographer, like, what lens are you using?
What camera is that? What film? What filter? How do you like this? And they're like, you ask a lot
of questions for a model because model these come in and just pose and do shit. I say, no, I want to know about stuff.
So being with all of these photographers around shoots for 12 years, I learned a lot on sets. I learned
lighting. I learned about lights. I learned about lenses, just in general, how to crop, how to, you know, just don't stand
there and go click go down here well how's that look yeah you know i mean it's completely different
angle oh wow that's weird okay and that's how i learned i didn't go to school for it i learned from
being you know on sets and in the streets and self-taught and then i met different photographers
i met a guy who's from sports illustrated top sports guy in the world walter yos who shot every
athlete you can name for the last 50 years and got a lot of contacts with him and then little by little
meet other clients, and that's how I became a photographer.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do you still do photography, too?
Yeah, not as much.
COVID kind of stopped a lot of photography, because you couldn't get together with
production teams.
As I got older, I mean, I really do still love photography.
I have an Alaskan fishing lodge with my brother, and it's called Icey Bay Lodge in Alaska,
and it's a remote lodge.
You've got to fly in there by bush plane.
It's 200 miles from any other fishermen, and so I want to start doing photo tours maybe up
there where it's like hey you know photo enthusiast you know a week with trojan up in
alaska shooting bears on the beach and you know killer whales and eight bald eagles and maybe
that kind of stuff so i'm kind of getting away from the yeah how often do you get up to the
alaskan fishing lodge ever it's my brother and my brother's the big fisherman he's a fly
fisherman he loves this is your brother that you were going to go on blood versus water with yes and
the brother that was in the show on game to the loved ones visit on game change my brother
todd yeah who picked me up off the ground i'm like yeah just like you guys that closest
a gift like people like go you pick me up off the ground goes oh you're so skinny and it's like
throw me around like wait 150 pounds so yeah so but i want to go up there next summer we
it's it's a summer thing because like in the winter it's just you know yeah crazy but we've
had production companies that want to do this like alone shows and things approach it's like
hey, we'd like to maybe film at your lodge.
It's a big wood, beautiful.
Okay.
Well, how about would you ever do like a naked and afraid or any of these other shows?
I've been asked that.
I thought about the naked and afraid.
But then I'm like, okay, I've starved on Survivor, but not starve, starved.
I mean, I've been hungry every day.
Naked or afraid, you're starving.
I mean, you're going two days with nothing.
I mean, or two days in one worm?
I don't know.
I don't have a problem with the naked part.
I have a problem with I hate being cold.
I mean,
on both my seasons,
I started a fire day one.
It never went out,
ever.
That's why we have these new ones.
Like,
these fires go out.
Like,
what the hell are they doing?
They have a pan.
You know,
build up the dam fire,
put logs on it.
You're going to tribal counselor for four or five hours.
It'll burn down.
The colds will stay as long as you put that iron pan.
Even if it rains.
It's like,
that's what I did every day.
Me or somebody,
or whatever.
retired. Well, sometimes they don't have their
flint the whole show. I know,
but you can start a fire. You know, I
started a fire both seasons without a flint.
Yeah, how'd you do it? Bamboo.
And there's bamboo on the beast
every time. So all you need is
bamboo. Well, you do need a knife
or a machete because you got to cut a little
slit. I mean, if any
smart person is going on Survivor, they
can just go on YouTube and
you know, Google
bamboo saw. And it
shows you how to do it and you it's not that hard and bamboo is the best wood for a fire because
it gets hot quick so i always laugh i go how do they don't have a fire what are they doing
like i don't get it like or how'd their fire go out i don't want to be cold so the naked
afraid part like the naked i got no problem all right after this you might get the casting call
i don't know i've been asked to do a few i mean i'd rather do amazing race or something you know
something like that first or you know wouldn't mind doing the traders i mean have to put
That looks like a fun show.
But yeah, I mean, is it out of the question?
No, but I feel like do you get paid a ton for 21 days of just
starving?
Yeah, it's one episode.
I mean, if it was like 10 episodes where you could make more money on campus.
I think you can make the money on like, then they have like their like naked and afraid like Excel.
Like I think there's like also like all star.
reasons that you could make money.
Yeah, when you start doing those, then your cameo reach is good.
I didn't know cameo that you could make so much damn money on it.
Yeah. I enjoyed cameo a while ago, but, you know, I joined it late,
and I thought, what am I making on Canada?
Like, 20 bucks a video, like a couple hundred bucks a year?
Yeah. Some people do it really well, yeah.
$1,000 on cameo. I'm like, Ross and Rod is making, who knows what?
I'm like, $70,000 on cameo.
Like, I just live on camera every day.
No problem.
Yeah.
so yeah you show them all the animals i would heck i mean well i my cameos are long i did like
five minutes i suddenly i get my that's my torch from the first season yeah from one world that's
torch well yeah i i'm like i got to get that torch got the skulls on it and it's got my and my
my hidden immunity idols hanging on it ah you take it yeah let me see it and i also have
Sandra Diaz is fake out of that she made from Game Changers.
Yeah.
So, okay, so you didn't have to play it until you went home with it.
Yeah.
I think normally they take that stuff from you.
No, I played it.
I did play it.
I didn't have to play it, but I didn't want to take the time.
I remember saying to Jeff going, listen, I'm not going to be one of those guys.
Oh, you did it at the advantage get in?
No, no.
This is one world.
Oh, okay.
You know, real, like, you can't fake that.
You've got a damn good bone carbure.
And then they gave it back to you?
Yes.
Wow.
Yeah, so it's like,
now I think they take to all the idols.
I had to buy that torch on eBay.
Oh.
A lot.
How much you pay for it?
$2,500.
Yeah.
That's back when torches were like super popular.
Yeah.
So I'm like, I need to get it.
Well, here's what, here's what, this is going to sound shady.
I had another.
too. I had Kim's idol. It looked
just like this. When
the game was over, she went to
Ponderosa, she goes, listen, I never played this.
She goes, I feel like you of all people
deserve it. You want it? I go,
yeah, you're idol, of course. And she gave it to me,
right? Yeah. As
Olive Ranch, you know, because I'm like, I was going
after her and some shit happened
where it's kind of like, okay, behind
the scenes that there's
I ensure people know there's
rumor going around, whatever. Anyway,
so part of me is like, well,
I like this, but I like my torch a lot bit more.
So if I sell her idol on eBay and get the money from that, I'll get my torch.
So that's what I did.
I put her idol up.
It's pretty guys.
Yeah.
Her idol sold for like $2,700.
And I'm like, awesome.
I'm going to bid on my torch.
And I know it's my torch because I carved my name in it on the sand.
Yeah.
On Island.
So I know it's mine.
Did Kim say anything to you about selling her immunity idol on eBay?
A little bit.
she was kind of like you did and I'm like you know and then the guy who bought it
eventually like it's like oh I've got enough you know mojo from it it it helped my my
wife with cancer I don't need it anymore I'm going to give it back to Kim he
wow oh all right it all right it all worked out worked out so I mean with Kim mad me a little bit
but like part of me's like listen you jack me out over it yeah you know like selling your
idol is like you know you're you sell a million dollars in your pocket plus you got to play
again so come on yeah and your daughter is one of the
the greatest of all time. So, come on.
Yeah. Troy, is there anything else that's on your mind in terms of Survivor,
49 and beyond? Well, you know, 49, you know, I thought, I felt kind of bad for 49 because,
you know, everyone's going to be like, okay, 50, 50, 50. But 49, it's come up a little bit.
We'll see. I mean, it's got some players that we'll see. It's got some potential.
I mean, last week, of course, was good because it was, you know, the Jake thing.
and it's like you know and also you know whittling down a tribe to two that's kind of fun to watch to see
what's going to happen so yeah i hope there's some going to be some drama going on it's like
i you know we'll see i i don't like to rate the season in the beginning it's early it's just
kind of like yeah come on you can't rate a season in the you know in the beginning so do i
want it to get lower than one world yeah maybe well one one world started it was way down it still is
and stuff.
One of my little,
it kind of like moved up a little bit sometimes.
Like,
and now I just realized it was on Hulu, right?
Yeah.
It's like T's on Hulu.
And it was right there.
It's like, season 24,
I go,
oh, yeah,
it's on Hulu.
Maybe you'll watch an episode.
So I clicked and like,
oh,
I'll watch episode 10.
Why not?
This is my island episode.
So I watched it just,
just the other day.
I didn't see it in like.
Yeah.
How did it hold up?
It was pretty good.
I thought like him,
what the hell?
I didn't realize,
you know,
it's like,
you kind of,
But you get feelings back, like, God, these people are so stupid.
They just, why didn't they just, they had a chance to just get rid of camera?
Like, it was obvious and this and that, I understand, blah, blah, blah.
You know, you reminisce about what, you forget stuff that happened, you know.
So you got to rewatch.
You think you remember.
But, yeah, it's kind of interesting to rewatch the same.
Well, I forget the stuff that didn't happen on the TV show.
That's the problem.
Oh.
Like, I can really only remember the TV show.
Yeah, well, you got to, yeah, I have to remind.
myself sometimes too when i'm even watching like the season like now like you know who's who i mean
if they don't put their name up i like i get quick like you know or like now i have like a little
on my screen like i have the names up i wouldn't be able to if you said showed me the face out i wouldn't
be like oh that's yeah riz god i'm not sure i'm not sure if i'm into the calling yourself ris god yet
not yet now okay but you have a nickname you don't like risgod no
It's to, if you were, if he wins, he can call himself Riz God.
Yeah.
But Riz God in the very beginning, it's almost like, yeah, you're playing up to the camera.
You're giving yourself, I didn't give myself my nickname for one.
I wasn't even Troy Zan in the first two episodes.
They just didn't show it that way.
I wasn't Troy Zan right away.
I was Troy.
It wasn't until Tarzan on day one when we walked in, I was, I was like, bro, it's so
weird that your name's Tarzan. He goes, I said, because I have monkey, I had a family of
marmoset monkeys. I said, my buddy has a joke, like one or two, they call me Troisand. Is that weird?
He goes, oh, my God, really? He goes, you got monkeys? He goes, I got lemurs in my backyard.
And so we connected, right? And so he started calling me Troisand just in general.
So in real life, people like your friends don't call you Trojan. Oh, now they do.
Anybody, yeah, then it becomes a joke. Now my family, oh, hey, Troisand, like my brother.
Troy Zand, but it's like, it's funny to hear it.
And then the people that I would work with, photographers,
you know, because my buddy, Walter Yose, who's a photographer,
he said, he started calling me that as a nickname.
He goes, you're like this monkey man, tard.
He goes, I'm going to start calling you Trojan.
And I said, oh, God.
And, you know, it only takes a few people to start calling you.
Then it becomes a nickname.
Yeah.
And that's on the show.
Jeff called us to, you know, like in for a challenge.
And he's, you know, normally like, hey, so what's going on around camp,
guys tarzan what's going on and how you got he goes well we've been building the fire and he
go trojan and i've been talking a lot and jeff goes troyzan who's that and he looks at me
go are you Troy are you Troy are you Troy's yeah it's kind of like yeah a friend of a home is goofy
it's all ended out and then he goes to Kim what do you think of him being troyesan she goes well
if there's two kooky guys want to be Trojan and Tarzan once Jeff says the name yeah it's
it's stuck and then anything that you get on your canteen or your name your name's your name's
Trojan. And then it's Troisand on the screen. So like each day one, I was Troisand on the
edit, but I wasn't Trojan yet. Yeah. So then now it's almost, and it was weird for me to get
used to just general people calling me Trojan out of the show. I was like I'd be in New York. Oh my God,
Troy is that? Troy. And then, because I was used to Troy. Now if I'm around survivor people and they
call me Troy, it sounds weird. Yeah. Like I've been had that happen, you know, where someone calls me, you
know, Troy, you know, and you're like, you know, I was, I mean, I'm talking to Carolyn
Uighur quite a bit. She'd always like, Troy's in and Troy's in and Troy. And then she started
calling me Troy. I'm like, that sounds weird. It's like, yeah, why Troy? Yeah. Yeah. All right.
Well, Troy Zan. Yes. This was. Yeah, this was super fun to catch up. What else is coming up for
you? Not a lot, just a little photography. I'm actually going out. I'm flying out to Spokane to visit
the parents. Oh, wow. And then I'm flying to, uh, Eugene or your folks are doing good. Yeah, well,
they're good. They're old, you know, it's, it's tough to watch your parents get old. You know,
it's like, yeah, they go from like, vibrant walk around to like kind of, you know, using walkers now.
They're 87. Wow. My, my grandma lived to be 103 and my grandparents lived to be 95. So it's like my
parents still going to be.
I just, it's just, they're getting, but, you know, yeah, they're all good.
They're in Spokane's, but then I'm going to the Oregon Ducks game.
I'm a huge Oregon duck fan.
Oh, wow.
Watson Stadium in Eugene, Oregon is crazy time.
So I'm going to the homecoming game, meeting up with my brother, got all the duck gear
ready.
It's like, you know, that fan sing shout from Animal House after the third quarter, the whole
Stas goes crazy.
So that'll be fun.
And that's coming up in November, so, yeah.
and a little bit of work here and there
I do retouching Photoshop shit
but I kind of just hang around
the house a lot really
it's like my own little jungle
I need to live in the dream
I need to start the Trojan National Geographic Channel
or something do something I don't know
well Troy thanks for making time to talk
I should say Troy Zan thank you for making the time
to talk about all this stuff
and this was great to catch up
it was awesome it's great to catch up too Rob like I said
it's always an honor to do your show your show
It's fantastic. I'm really happy for all your success, and I honestly mean that.
Thank you so much. Appreciate it. And great to catch up. Happy to hear you're doing so well. And all the best, okay?
Thanks, man.
All right. And thank you all so much for listening to this. And we've got plenty more coming back when we turn it back around for episode number four of Survivor 49 come up on Wednesday night. Thank you all. Take care of a good one. Bye.
Thank you.
