Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, hello, hello. New intro. Wow. I'm through me for a loop there. I always do the same thing. I'm like, it's kind of become my thing. But I just thought I'd just go, what's up? Hello.
Starting point is 00:00:12 I'm shaking, not stirred. What's going on, guys? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. It's Friday, August 19th, 2020. Christine Yossi, welcome. I'm back. You're back.
Starting point is 00:00:29 one little hiatus. I did. How was it? It was good. I was working on new plays with actors from Hulu shows. So I was way out of my depth, but it was great. That's good. Did you learn anything?
Starting point is 00:00:40 Oh, yeah, I did. Lots of very smart people. That's good. And I made the mistake of Googling them. And I was like, oh. Okay. You actually are. You say you are.
Starting point is 00:00:49 You are real, yes. That's cool. Yeah. Very cool. Very good. It's our weekly marketing and advertising and business news edition. We've had a good week. Christina's back from playwriting or whatever.
Starting point is 00:01:03 The new play festival. Yeah. New play festival. Nick, you had a good week? Yeah, it was great. Good weekend. Mm-hmm. Now we're heading into another one.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Yeah, time's fine, man. It's Friday. Almost September. I mean, you should be celebrating today, you know, being a creative, I'm going to give away a little bit. I'm going to go early in the show notes. It's National Photo Day. That's right. Happy World Photo Day.
Starting point is 00:01:26 You know? Take a picture to last longer. All day. Hey, take a screenshot. If you know what that was originally from, what movie, you guys are so young, you'll never get this. Take a picture to last longer. It's not Goonies, is it? Is it something with Jim Carrey?
Starting point is 00:01:40 Nope. Nope. It was, I think it was set a little differently, but Peewee's Big Adventure. Okay. They said it, and then they also said it, I think, in Back to the Future, or something else had it. Back to the Future, I do know. But Pee We's Big Adventure had a riff off of that kind of. of line.
Starting point is 00:02:01 I've never seen it. Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Come on, man. Have you seen it, Nick? I've never seen that one. Large Marge. Come on. You got to watch some Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Starting point is 00:02:12 That was like the funniest movie ever when I was a kid. Added to the list. It's very silly. We do love silly. We were talking pre-episode. My wife, Nicole, is not a huge comedy person. And, you know, bringing that movie up. I can think of one movie that she would walk out on.
Starting point is 00:02:30 in like the first 10 minutes, Pee Wee's Big Adventure would be it. It's that one. A lot of people probably did. But it's been a good week at Radical. We've had a blistering, actually a cooler week as far as temperature goes. But I feel like the week is run together as far as heating up workwise.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Yeah. Eating up work wise. Lots of stuff going on. Lots of film shoots. A really fun shoot last week. Yeah. But editing this week for sheets and giggles. Mattress shoot.
Starting point is 00:02:58 What a mattress. Yeah. Christina was involved. than that. Her multi-talented. We use everyone's talent to the max here. We like lots of hats. Acting, producing, show-running, everything.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Yes, yes, multi-talented. But it's going to be fun on their new mattress coming out. And so be on the look for that. We'll share that content. If you follow along any of Radical's channels, which you should be at Radical Results on Instagram. And so a lot of content, a lot of video, and lots of new.
Starting point is 00:03:30 possibilities. I'll leave it there, but it's been a good week. I saw this bit of news here right before we came in. Yes, big deal. You know, anything with Lawrence round numbers gets my attention. Penn Entertainment, who purchased 36% of barstool sports in 2020 for 163 million. Jump change. Just finished by the remaining shares for 387 million, which by my bad math gets to around I'm 550, 550-ish, somewhere close to that. Do you think they were like saving for it after the initial one six through? Like, oh, man, if we dream big. They're a casino.
Starting point is 00:04:09 They're like casino base. They print money. Insane. It's like me to go gamble in Los Vegas. But Dave Portnoy, who was already hurting for money, is suddenly now a gazillionaire again. So I'm happy for Dave. Good for him. Hey, smart guy.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Congratulations, Dave. Whether you like, love or hate the platform or everything he says. he is a brilliant marketer and media maven, I'll call him. And he knows what's popular. Yes, he does. From a comedy perspective. At least to the masses. Sometimes it's a race to the bottom, but he gets there in a hurry.
Starting point is 00:04:46 You know what I'm talking about, Nick. Good phrase. Good phrase. Yes. So like, all right, let's do a little unplanned, should I go off notes, but it's related to Port Donoiloy and Barstool. Like, what's the first thing? When I say Barstool Sports, what comes to mind?
Starting point is 00:05:04 What's like the first thing that comes to mind? For me, Instagram. Okay. But like maybe specific to the genre of content. Like, what do you, like, what's the... I think comedy before I think sports. Yeah. But I'm probably not the target audience for it.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Nick? Comedy. Comedy. Yeah. Yeah. Just kind of slapstick. Yeah. mainstream. Goofy.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Like, I mean, I send it to people. At the end of the day, they produce now a lot of original content. Yeah. But if you follow like the main account, there's riffing like they find the funniest video. People send them stuff. Yes. That's the thing is
Starting point is 00:05:47 when you become the machine that they are, people send them all the best stuff. They do the work. They're like America's Funniest home videos irreverent home videos. Like if the R-rated American funniest home videos gets sent to down where it's the stupidest thing. Like two,
Starting point is 00:06:02 three golfing buddies, whatever they do, getting drunk in a golf cart, and they go slam it into something. Right. They send that thing to barstool. You know, it's out there.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yep. But, yeah, they do gambling and everything else now too. But Dave Portnoy, congratulations on the clothes for $387 million. Can't knock success. No,
Starting point is 00:06:23 cannot. Yes. I found this interesting. So, you know, going from Portnoy, to a little bit of, on the heels of those. But, you know, we like to give perspective here.
Starting point is 00:06:33 And I'm going to give a little perspective because, you know, the last three to four months, all you've heard in the news is recession talk. And so it admittedly, there's a lot of data out there that spending has slowed. And there's things that align with that. But what I did is I did an analysis and a Nix going to show this if you watch any of the video,
Starting point is 00:06:52 you'll see the search trends of the term recession and how low they were in February, in March. Yeah. But the news started talking about it. And so this is the search trends for people searching for a resurg recession. And so what I think happens, and this is not a conspiracy theory. Not totally.
Starting point is 00:07:15 But what I think is the news, we can create, if the news talks about it, you can create the perception. And so, yes, there's been a shift in spending. some of the government money is not in the market anymore. There's stuff and inflation has caused stuff. But inflation has been around. And the housing market sucks. Yeah, but inflation has been around for a couple years.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Like bread has been more expensive. Gas has been more expensive for like the last 18 months. Right. And we weren't in a recession 12 months ago. Sure. You know. But the news starts talking about it. And it's like it builds sentiment.
Starting point is 00:07:49 And I feel like the news can control the sentiment so that people then that might start pulling back and saving because, oh, we're in a recession. okay, I should spend less. I should do less. Right. I'm not saying people shouldn't be physically responsible, what I'm saying is the news and the sentiment of the news correlates. Well, you plant the seed.
Starting point is 00:08:07 You plant the seed. And if you start going, you make people, even though most, like, everyone are radical, no one's financial situation has drastically changed, you know, in any way. Yeah. Maybe you're raised here or there, but nobody's going backwards. My rent has gone up. Well, okay. So that's it, inflationary stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:25 So I'm not saying there's, but like, not. the last 60 days. Well, and it's also interesting because a lot of retailers are overbought because it was a mass response to pandemic fear. And so a lot of things are actually on sale and are more inexpensive because there's, you know, it's, they're overbought. There's too much stuff. But the news is scared the shit out every once.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Right. So everyone's not buying. Exactly. So like it's controlling the narrative is what I'm getting at is like the power of the news cycle and the power of like what you talk about. And if like, like tomorrow, like if we. And the radcast is pretty popular. Let's not a lie.
Starting point is 00:09:01 We can push narrative here. We can control sentiment at the radcasts. If you're listening, help me control this. Let's all start posting that we're out of a recession. Like if we just started running articles that says recession fears subside and whatever, I think spending would go up. Even though there's no financial change necessarily, if sentiment changes, than the spending changes.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And so self-fulfilling prophecy. Yeah. And look, the reality is the economy kind of needs a little bit of these ups and downs, though you pull back on some of the inflation and things. Like the government needs people spend a little less so the inflation goes down. Right. You know, so they get reelected. Right. It all ups and flows.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yeah. I'm just saying. So there's my conspiracy theory for today. So I've been, I've been told there's a recession. I'm just choosing. not to participate. Yeah, it's like the Elliott Wave Theory. Never heard of that?
Starting point is 00:10:02 The what? The Elliott Wave Theory. What is that? It's a form of technical analysis that looks at recurrent long-term price patterns related to persistent changes in investor sentiment and psychology. Uh-huh. There you have it. But if you tell everybody we're in a recession,
Starting point is 00:10:19 even if their financial position hasn't really changed, they're going to start acting like they're in a recession. Mm-hmm. Something to think about here today on the Radcast. So if you're out there and, you know, you're buying all the talk, let's not buy it. Let's just make it like it's 19, what's this, 1970 something? What was the song when it's wonderful? Like back when it, whatever it was. There's a year that, like, was so wonderful.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Anyway. 2008. 2008. That's what it was. So that was real because you had a huge housing bubble. There was a lot of bad loans in that year. Oh, yeah. That one wasn't just the news talking.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Have you seen the big short, the movie about it? Yes. Yes. It's kind of scary. It's unnerving. It's unnerving. But that's kind of what I'm saying is like someone's controlling the strings, right? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I don't think anyone denies that. Someone or something. We'll see. Back to some lighter news. The radcast has a really, killer lineup the next three weeks. This week we had Cosmo from Cosmo's Q. Let me just tell you, I've become addicted.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Cosmo sent, I need to bring some back into the office. I'm not trying to hog at all. I didn't realize until I got home how much there was. I need to bring some back to the office to share the love. Please do. Because we'll never use it. But all these seasonings, all these sauces, unbelievable. Cosmo's Q.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Cosmo was awesome. Super down to Earth. So I hope you check that out this past Tuesday. I've been posting some of the highlight clips to my social media. really good guy. We've been texting. I see some partnerships coming. I don't know what it is. Like the Radcast Q, Radcast seasoning. I don't even know what. You know what I'm talking about Nick, we're going to get our own seasoning up in this mo. Maybe a little rad cast Cheetos. Yes. Signature snacks. Signature snacks. Rad snacks. Check out that episode. And then next week, if you're watching the video, you can see some of the books that are here. My good friend, Kyle Creek, the captain, was on. We recorded a couple weeks ago. go. His episode goes live on Tuesday. He's the author of fucking history and his latest book, Speech Therapy. And you know what? If you're listening, I want you to send me a DM and I'm
Starting point is 00:12:36 going to send and say, you know what? I want one of those fucking books. And I'm going to send you a copy of speech therapy. So send me a DM. We're going to send some out. We're going to do a promo on my social channels and the radcast. But the captain was awesome. Really great episode. Can't wait for you to hear that next week. Stay tuned. Yes. And for Ryan, enjoy the fucking book. I'm sure you will. I will. Kyle's cool as shit and I hope you will listen to that episode.
Starting point is 00:13:05 He's one of the best follows, SGR, STK on Instagram. You need to follow him. Really cool guy. And you need to get one of these books. We're going to be giving them out. So hit me up. So Kyle Creek, the captain, next Tuesday, the 23rd. We recorded this week another zinger.
Starting point is 00:13:25 me just tell you how we pee Howard pains one of the most successful entrepreneurs we've ever had on the show made his fortune in e-cigarettes he has a castle he has a castle which we may or may not be going to more on that think billions is his latest venture uh and thought leadership group mastermind so you can look that up think billions he's also doing plant-based luncheables yes i did see that Yes. He's like, you'll never go back. I'm like, all right, we'll see. And then of course, the stealth plank, stealth fitness. He's sending me a plank that you put your phone down. Quite an entrepreneur. You do. Like, you play the game. Like, it's cool. Like, literally, so you do you know, you're doing a plank. Oh, yeah. So you do all on this board and you put your phone at your face level. And he has an app and a game so that that balancing is kind of like, you know, kind of like driving, you know, like turning or whatever. And you gamified being in. a plank. Oh my God. I would love that. Genius. Genius, I tell you. Genius, I tell you.
Starting point is 00:14:30 If I had any sound effects, I'd be hitting them. Ding. Alas. There's my audience. There they are. There they are. There they are. There they are. Capt of audience. But yes, Howard Payne's episode will be out in a few weeks. Also, we've got some big herers. Let me just tell you, if you drink Pepsi, you're going to want to listen. talking with some big hitters at Pepsi. So any Pepsi drinkers out there, you're going to be hearing all about Pepsi's marketing
Starting point is 00:14:59 in the next few weeks. I'm going to leave it at that. And we've got some big country music artists that I'm in talks with. So if you're a country music fan talking journeys, talking the latest hits on the charts, rising fast, that's all I can say right now. But stay on the look for all the latest radcast guests.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Indeed. Speaking of guests, our best guests always are surrounding me and Christina here in the room. And that's our friend at Brandon Bills. And our guests get some branded bills. Yes. Yes, they do. We've been sending these out.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Brandon Bills, they'll send out more. I think we're sending out enough. I think we need to do a promo for the gear and the books. The T-shirts are lower on T-shirts than hats. Yeah, we need to get some of these hats out of here. Not because I want to get rid of them because my closet is full of like every color. I'm always like...
Starting point is 00:15:50 We want to spread it. We want to give them to you. Spread the joy. Go to brandedbills.com, our official merchandise sponsor. And let me tell you, we don't sponsor or work with anyone that we don't believe in. And these are the best hats in the world. I'm just going to tell you because before they even came on the show, Nick could probably vouch for this. Every hat I wore was a branded bill's hat.
Starting point is 00:16:11 I was like, all right, I'd like work with those guys. We worked to deal out. They're like authentic, authentic sponsorship. That's what we're about. Brandedbills.com. Go to enter Radcast, 20, get 20% off your entire order. Flannel season's coming up. Hoodies, beanies, everything you want for the fall.
Starting point is 00:16:28 You got you covered quite literally. Yes. You could also go to our website, theradcast. com. Click on sponsors. Click on branded bills. It will go right to the site. Don't even have to enter that code.
Starting point is 00:16:38 You'll get 20% off. Tell them the Radcast sent you. Our friends at brandedbills.com. I already gave away the best social holiday. you know, maybe not the best, but the first one. Sure. Today's. Today's, photo day.
Starting point is 00:16:53 World Photo Day. Big deal. Big hashtag. I'm going to celebrate this with some vodka. Yes. On Saturday. Not my card? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Read my lips. No. National Lemonade Day. National Lemonade Day. It's my dad's birthday, too. I'm a lemonade fan. Same. I grew up loving some lemonade.
Starting point is 00:17:15 I used to do a little lemonade stand every summer. It's like a little lemonade stand every summer. my house. My kids do those. Now it's turned into water and popsicle. Hey, kids made like $100 at our house. Oh, we did. We did well back in the day.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Yeah. I'm like, holy shit. I'm in the wrong field. We sell into popsicles. They're being food and Bev, right? No, what I'm on Nick. And then the 21st Sunday, National Spoo Money Day.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Very good. I had to bring to my Italian heritage. I had no freaking clue what this was. I had to Google it too. I thought it was something a little funky. And in a little funky. And in a little bit. way it is, but it's not dirty. It's just, it's ice cream. It looks more like a meringue or something.
Starting point is 00:17:53 It's gelato, technically. It looks pretty nasty. You showed that picture. I'm like, I'm kind of a text-to-all with that kind of stuff. I'm like, nah. It's ice cream with toppings in it. That's a note for me, dog. It's just like Neapolitan. Sunday National Spumani Day. If you're in Brooklyn, you can get some. Anywhere else, SOL. Yeah. Well, on Monday, National Be an Angel Day. Do kind things. You're just, It's an angel at all times. You don't even need a day for it.
Starting point is 00:18:21 No, thank you. Thank you. I just radiate light and good things. Yes. I'm going to get Nick some wings like that we eat. We'll call it angel. Angel wings. There you go.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Eat those things. Good idea. Yeah, we're in. Have you seen the chicken wing ice cream? Have you seen those? No. Oh, it's very weird. We'll put a picture in.
Starting point is 00:18:43 National Cuban Sandwich Day. It's Tuesday. I'm going to forget this. We talk about these social holidays, and I forget to plug a couple of them in my phone. Totally. But National Cuban Sandwich Day, I'd like to celebrate. So anyone want to send me a Cuban sandwich? Send it on.
Starting point is 00:18:59 There you go. If you're locally in Greenville, ideally we aren't shipping those unless, I don't know. That could be some funky, some funky smell. Yes. Send me a lemonade with a nice Cuban sandwich on Tuesday or Wednesday. With the money is dessert. August 23rd, National Cuban Sandwich Day. don't forget all your favorite social holidays.
Starting point is 00:19:19 And if there's one you'd like for us to mention, you know. Let us know. Maybe we're missing it. Don't even know about it. We got some social media news. We do, per usual. TikTok is fast becoming a key search and discovery platform for younger audiences. This was fascinating to me. I agree.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Could be a competitor for Google. Google's senior vice president said in our studies, something like almost 40% of young people. When you're looking for a place for lunch, they don't go to Google. They go to TikTok or Instagram. Instagram. Fascinating. I can't say that, I mean, I'm in social media a lot, either for my own things or for work.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And I guess I search for people, certainly, obviously, profiles. See, TikTok is my go-to. So do you do this activity? I've not looked at, like, restaurants, but I've done recipes. If I'm cooking at home, like, such with my air fryer or whatever, I go to TikTok for almost everything if I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to make. you're like looking up spoon on it. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I gave it away. I was going to surprise the office and bring it in. Damn. But yeah. Lemonade recipes. Way more than Google. Sugar and lemons. And water and vodka.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Vodka. Yes. You know what's really good. I'm getting really all the track. But diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A. It's so good. It's so good. I'll get better than regular.
Starting point is 00:20:39 I do. I don't know what it is. I don't know what they put in that stuff. That aspartane, man. It's the aspartane. It's good. No, that's my go-to. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:48 So anyway. Yeah, this is interesting. Very surprising. Not surprising, but surprising. Yeah, curious. They, yeah, I just not, is it a search engine? Well, when I'm looking for a restaurant, I'll go on Apple Maps. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:04 But I like the fact that you can see it visually and you don't have to read about it. I think that might be a reason. Right. Like, if you Google recipes in general, you get a freaking blog. Yeah, it's a whole book. And with TikTok, I'm like, oh, it's three minutes and I'm done. I know, like, YouTube has historically all, which is owned by Google, but like is a search engine of sorts for similar type things. But obviously TikTok rising in importance as we've been telling you.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Yeah. So it's only a matter of time before it leaks to the older audience like yours truly. And I start searching for things. I guess I have, I mean, I have searched for content specifically, but not just like everyday stuff. like they're saying. Like, you know, hard to know. We didn't grow up with it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Very good. There's a little ding for you, Nick. You've been waiting for that. Like Pavlov's dog. For three years. I like this. Yeah. Because, hey, we do ads for a living.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Apple finds this next big business showing ads on your phone. You know, like, I didn't know this was new necessarily. I didn't either. But I mean, they've been all the anti-ad. But they're adding it to apps. But that's the sudden, they've been kind of the anti-ad. Like, now it's brilliant to me. They're killing all the cookies.
Starting point is 00:22:26 They're not allowed you to do any targeting because they're going to sell all the ads. There you go. $1,000 for a phone still have ads. Apple's advertising efforts today consist of display ads inside of its news and stock apps, as well as inside the app store across the iPhone, iPad, and IMac. iPhone will eventually expand search ads to make. maps. It also will likely add them to digital storefronts like Apple books and Apple podcasts. And TV Plus could generate more advertising with multiple tiers, just like what Walt
Starting point is 00:22:58 Disney and Netflix and others are starting to do. Streaming services, yeah. I mean, you know, this stuff's not free. So, you know, you get a lot of services and things kind of built in whether or not you pay for it when you buy the hardware. You can make that argument. The damn phones have gotten so expensive. $1,200 a day. Laptops, it's fine. Still financing mine, but whatever. Yeah, I think I'm on the pavement plan myself.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Just because I'm like, oh, $1,200 out of pocket or $30 a month. Exactly. With an Apple credit card? Absolutely. Done and done. No interest. All right. I'll take that.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Take free money. Bump that credit. But, you know, it'll be interesting. I'll go at it from the podcast standpoint because I'm familiar with that search engine because we're in there a lot. You're updating our stuff and looking at others and all that. that seeing ads above it. But you know what? If I could run podcast ads on the podcast page to promote the show, I'm okay with that.
Starting point is 00:23:57 I just don't really want to see like head and shoulders in there. Sure. Sure. Or like that one thing you do on the side. No, we're a studio of great hair. It's fine. Yeah. It is interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Well, that's how you make money. Ad placements. Add placements. They're not going away. Everybody thinks, one day will not have ads. No. No. They'll be everywhere.
Starting point is 00:24:17 You just won't know you're being advertised to. That's right. Such as Paxon collaborating with virtual influencer Michaela for back-to-school ads. Have you seen Michaela? No, I have not. I know who she, like, do I know who that is? Yes, I know who it is. Entirely CGI.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Yeah, fake, right? Yep, mm-hmm. She's totally computer-generated. Yes. And she's now their back-to-school mascot. Paxon wants to carve out a bigger stake in the metaverse and is turning to one of the earliest examples of a virtual influencer to do so. Michaela, which went live on Instagram in 2016, has frequently grabbed headlines and
Starting point is 00:24:51 stoked controversy for acting as a purely artificial brand ambassador and poster. This is, you know, I'm all for innovation. And it's just a little weird. Like, I know there's, it's totally disingenuous on some levels when you pay a real person to promote your products. Sure. If they don't actually Use the product.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Like the example we used earlier. I was a brand of Bills fan. They're now a sponsor of the show. Right. You know, like, okay, there's some level authenticity of realness. Yeah, credibility. And we believe in the brand.
Starting point is 00:25:28 If you just create an unreal person, CGI that's promoting the brand, like, it's just completely lacks any authenticity. And it rides the line between, Like, are you a mascot or are you... Is it entertainment? An ambassador?
Starting point is 00:25:49 Right. An ad. Right. Just shock value. Or both. It doesn't make me want to buy a product if it's a computer generated woman selling it. And look, with all this deep fake stuff that's coming all this, I mean, it's like, how do we not pay actors?
Starting point is 00:26:01 Well, let's just create ourselves our own influence. Yeah. You know? Listen, that's my industry. Yeah. Sex. Miguel's going to be taking all your gigs, you know? She's not as funny as I am.
Starting point is 00:26:13 You know, she might be made to be as funny as you. She could steal your programming. She doesn't have the trauma. Doesn't have the trauma. You can't fake the trauma. No, you can't. You know, but I'll say this, like, go watch some of these specials on this stuff, and it will freak you out where they're going with some of the, like, AI.
Starting point is 00:26:34 AI. And like, you can't find innovation, and there's certainly uses for some of it, but like, I don't know. This world. is moving quickly to being, I don't know, not what we intended it to be. Right, right. And it isn't, like, it will be very interesting to see the sustainability of it. Yeah. And how long this is going to last and if we're on the wrong side of it.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Yeah, we're going to fight the robots. Exactly, right. You know, the influencers turn into soldiers, you know. Mm. You know, I don't know. Not a zombie apocalypse, a robot apocalypse. They can shoot up that metaverse. Just don't come to our universe.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Right, exactly. Exactly. Stay over there. The real verse. You can keep Earth, too. Yeah. Tony the Tiger is transforming into a great, great. Very nice.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Twitch or streamer? Twitch streamer, excuse me. The first of its kind partnership sees the Kellogg brand tapping into the growing V-tuber trend on Twitch and follows other efforts that have taken the longstanding mascot to nascent digital platforms like TikTok. Kellogg's Frosted Flakes is updating its iconic tonic. the Tiger mascot for a new generation by tapping into several emerging trends and channels. Twitch averages more than 31 million daily visitors. And it is growing way for brands to engage with younger,
Starting point is 00:27:56 digitally native consumers that are difficult to reach through traditional advertising. Yeah, they're not watching TV. They're watching TV, but they're watching Xbox. Right. Right. My kids do this. They watch other gamers game. Like, that's other playing Fortnite. or whatever, you know?
Starting point is 00:28:13 Right. So it makes sense. But is Tony the Tiger going to be a CGI? You know what I mean? Back to the previous article. It's like, but at least, but Tony the Tiger's been around for all the time. He's an established persona. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:28:28 He's a branded mascot. Yeah. I don't know. Great. He's very cute too on the little games. Yes. But I will say, look, if you're marketing to a younger demographic, you need to be on Twitch.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Yep. You need to find influencers there. It's where the kid's at. We say that about TikTok, but that's, but they are. They're watching. And there's also so much money in Twitch. I got four of these in my focus group at home called the Offer Boys. So much money.
Starting point is 00:28:59 They're watching this stuff. Yeah. And they're not watching terrestrial TV. Right. So, or linear TV. So you need to be there. That's where they're at. But have a real influence or not a digital.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Like, Michaela. No AI. I love this next one so much. Miller High Life serves up dive bar-inspired ice cream. I'm very food-worn, motivated. You had me at Miller High Life. It's one of my favorite all-time campaign.
Starting point is 00:29:26 The champagne of beer. That guy's voice is much more gravely than mine. Those are the scenarios that are kind of like semi-funny, comedic, but sort of serious. No, they've got solid ads. Yes. And now they have a. They've partnered with ice cream company tipsy scoop to produce a beer-infused ice cream bar.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Miller High Life with the slogan, Champagne of beers, has long positioned itself as a classy yet economical brand. The upscale ice cream pops play into that brand image by putting a decadent, elaborate spin on a cheap treat. The ice cream has a higher ABV than actual Miller High Life. Isn't that insane? Yes. And I don't know. It better taste good. It has to taste good.
Starting point is 00:30:09 It looks incredible. Like a beer. Beer flavor is nice. I'm getting a little mixing. I love the idea and the PR. I think it'd be like almost like a rich flavor though. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:20 You know, I'm digging. Keep going. Keep going. I'll order for the office. I'll bring it in. Yes. All right. Instead of Smolani.
Starting point is 00:30:28 We'll do. The actress in the Miller High Life popsicles. Listen. I could make that work. Yeah, tipsy scoop. I do like that. I'd never heard of them. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:37 I think they're in New York based. The, uh, look, the champagne of beers. That's all you need to know. Oh, that's a great tagline. Yes. It's always been their tagline. I had a little phase in college where I drank nothing but high life. I had a Bombay Sapphire phase and I had a Miller High Life phase.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I had a Bombay Sapphire phase. And you know, what's funny is it is kind of like that classy economical, but like a lot people kind of give me a little like funky look, kind of like I had like an OE or something, you know, like a 40. I'm like, you can't eat this is the champagne of beers. I'm like. You were advertising for them well before. well before.
Starting point is 00:31:13 I do like a high life though. It has a different flavor. It's good for ice cream. Yeah. It's very rich and buttery. There it is. You like a high life? Complex flavor profile.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Yes. Have you had a champagne of beers? Yeah, I have high life. Okay. It's not bad, right? Yeah, it's got a different flavor. It's good for the lake. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Yeah. Yeah. Nice ice cold. Mm-hmm. All right. Let's go after this. Light with a big food light. There you go.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Hot Pockets. Leans into gaming community with a creator contest. Back to the gamers. Hot Pockets. Did y'all eat Hot Pockets grow up? I love Hot Pockets. Yeah, y'all are Hot Pockets crew right here. This age, you're the age group for that.
Starting point is 00:31:54 I was like a little after my house. And my mom got lean pockets because they were branded as healthier. And they were awful. Yeah. Yeah. And broccoli. Yeah. Creators can enter the 120 contest by uploading a two-minute video to Twitter.
Starting point is 00:32:08 I mean, how many different platforms we have to upload something? Jesus, right? Videos we're using the hashtag 120 contest over the next year, 12 winners will be named one per month and receive tech and gaming prizes. Hot Pocket has pledged over 100,000 to reward the winners, each of whom will become its brand ambassadors. Smart Smart. Its platform and contest is a clear nod to the evolving interests by brands to appeal to the gaming communities. There's a lot of trends here in the news. It's all around gaming.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Games and beer. Look, it is what's all my kids. Like, my kids are playing like every sport. They're not overly, they're not desensitized and like playing video games all day every day. But I can tell you when they're not gaming or playing real games outside or sports or whatever, they want to be playing Fortnite. No, my brother's the same way.
Starting point is 00:33:00 So. Exactly same way. It is what they're into. But you know what? I think back, Nintendo came out like when I was like, nine or ten something like that
Starting point is 00:33:12 when the dinosaurs were still around I played basketball year round and like when I wasn't basketball and I was Mario and the shit out of that thing yeah like you know like so what goes around comes around it's not as new as
Starting point is 00:33:26 it seems it's just the I think the social component the Twitch component to be able to watch others I would have killed to be able to like learn how to do something right I'd have to wait for the magazine to come out with like the super Mario tricks
Starting point is 00:33:38 like I'd be like oh god I knew you had to do that. I would give my brother my device. I had to kill Bauer of like four fireballs or something, you know. Oh, you punch him right in the balls and it works. Like, you know. But there's always some like magic way to beat the boss. Or the one kid that was good at it. And it's like, I would give it to my brother and be like, you beat this level.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I can't get past it. Help me. Yeah. Like Glass Joe on Mike Tyson's punch out who was so easy. And then you get to hippo and you had to like punch him in the stomach when he was like throwing a punch. His shorts were dropped down. telling you. That was when you peaked, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:34:11 No. I actually was one of the first in my group to beat Mike Tyson in Mike. Oh, wow. He was unstoppable. But I learned the comment that it's all about defense against Mike. It wasn't the offense. It was the defense. That's a real waiting to happen.
Starting point is 00:34:26 I got something even crazier. I'm going to give you the secret code to get to Mike Tyson. I still remember it. Write this down next. 0.007-373-9663. That is the code you put in on Mike Tyson's punchout. to go straight to Mike Tyson. I still remember it.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Wow. Go try it. Dare I say you just aged yourself a bit there? Mike Tyson's punch out. I still remember it. Anything with Contra. Up, up, down, down, left right, left right, B, A, start. That's how you get unlimited lives on Contra on the Nintendo.
Starting point is 00:34:58 You do the hokey pokey, turn yourself around. That's what it's all about. There's some people closer to my age listening to this going, oh yeah, they know they know what I'm talking about. So Hot Pockets, hey, it's the right way to do it. Yeah. That's where they're at. Games and beer.
Starting point is 00:35:14 120. Speaking of beer. Yes. PAP's Blue Ribbon or PBR takes vacations back in time with 80s motel. PBR, which is sold by the brewing company of the same name, has partnered with a historic roadside motel, motel not hotel, to give vacationers an immersive experience in PBR-themed rooms. PBR's themed hotel rooms, which the brand refers to as PAP, to the place, which sounds very weird, aims to transport consumers back to the 80s. The rooms are decked out with decor and appliances from the decade in an effort to give
Starting point is 00:35:46 guests an experience that is indifferent to the passing of time. How do you feel about the 80s being so long ago? That now it's a trend and a vibe. You know, everybody likes the 80s, you know. Stranger Things helped. Yeah, no, but this is fun. I mean, how do you think of motels, it's kind of being a little creepy? I'm like, I don't know if it's because like psycho back in the day, like the motel.
Starting point is 00:36:12 There's a difference between the huh and the mm. Yeah. But there, you know, are these one hour places or these full state of nights? Big yikes. Big yikes. But let's be honest. Most of the motels are at least in this area or not. There's one in Greenville.
Starting point is 00:36:28 That's hourly. Oh, really? Oh, yes. Oh, how would you know? Because I had friends in college who would film things. And it was great because they could use it. Yeah. Wink, wink, nudge nudge.
Starting point is 00:36:36 at Bob Jones University. I knew it was a secret cult for something. Oh, it is. There's no secret. It's a cult. And they could rent it out without having to pay exorbitant amounts. They witnessed some things. It makes sense for PBR.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Yes. I mean, I could see the like, was it the table with the tablecloth look, the plaid or whatever. Right. I don't know. I can totally see PBR. It's appropriate, especially the people that I know that are heavy PBR triggers. On brand. On brand.
Starting point is 00:37:06 On brand. But you won't catch me dead in a new. You're another high life guy. I'm a champagne and beers guy down at the days in. There you go. Holiday Inn Express. Yeah. Fairfield sweet.
Starting point is 00:37:20 There you have. Beautiful. Advertising news. Crisp little episode. Yeah. Crisp episode. It was fun. A little blast of the past with Mike Tyson's punch out.
Starting point is 00:37:30 You're going to use that code if you played into Ninda. I'm telling you. You can't believe. I just remember it. I am impressed. I can barely remember my social security number, but I can remember that. That's how,
Starting point is 00:37:41 I mean, but that's how, but that's, it goes full cycle. It's like, you want to bust on your kids. I'm like, I play video games.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Totally. Nintendo is like, all their age when I was like their age. Yeah. It's got a little more realistic, more glass Joe's. Or, uh,
Starting point is 00:37:54 more AI. Yeah, exactly. Final words from you, Nicholas. Go grab a Miller High Life. Head to the lake. Get some ice cream.
Starting point is 00:38:03 Yes. Or a BBR. That should get to. PBR, champagne to beers. You know where to find us, theradcast.com. You'll find all the highlights from today. Look up Mike Tyson's punch out. You get all the codes.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Fact check. Fact check. Fact check. You can check it. It works. For Christina Gawse, Nick Weaver. I'm Ryan Offord. We'll see you next time on the Radcast.
