Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. It's Friday, October 28th, 2022, our weekly marketing, advertising, and business news of the week. Christina Yossi, welcome to the show. Thank you, thank you. Mr. Nick Weaver. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:00:21 Here we are. Yeah, welcome back to the Carolinas. I know. We talked pre-episode, still adjusting. That three hours makes a difference. Yeah, it's hard. It's hard. Just in the sleep patterns back. Just long, just gone long, just long enough to both mess up my words and be a little. What day is it? You both have asked me what day it is today. Just for a point of reference. Well, we work all weekend, which, you know, I'm not accustomed to, but a bit working all weekend away from home and at that level.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Right. In a different time zone. Different time zone. So there's a great. event we had a good time appreciate how we pee how we pains for inviting us out to think billions rep in the swag yeah i've got the uh cap on today and uh it was a great event really good people really good i don't know vibe when you agree nick yeah very inspirational very informative all the speakers were great yeah we had a good time we interviewed eight-ish people i think i remember we had eight interviews. And three days, damn.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I did a keynote and spoke on a couple panels and, you know, just drop it knowledge. There you go. Drop it like it's hot. There it is. And we had a great time. So we really appreciate Alexa and I think consulting group and everyone involved. And so too many names to name, but we appreciate it. And looking forward to future ventures.
Starting point is 00:01:50 So it was good. But it's not so good is Kanye. Yeah, think about losing billions, right? Yeah, losing billions. Pretty good. Thank you. Yeah, thinking. Not thinking.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Forgetting, forgetting, billions. And maybe it's a master plan. I don't know. Maybe he's smarter than all of us, and he's just getting rid of all these brands so he could start afresh. There's one. But sure. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:18 I don't know if it's that thoughtful or not. Or just the madness of one man. Right. That's what it seems like. He closed his school down this week as well. Yeah, due to some, I know, a controversy and
Starting point is 00:02:31 who knows what else. Who knows? Very odd. He was escorted off of the, like, premise of sketchers. He just, like, walked into the sketches. Did that really happen? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:40 That's not just a rumor. No, I checked, I checked several different sites. Like, CNN had something on it, New York Times. All right. That was just, like, fake news or something. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Then, yeah. That's what I said last week. Like, it's clearly something's off. Something's up. Yeah. But it's funny because I don't know if you know about the beef or the history between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Yes, I am aware of that. So it is, it is funny that all of this is happening while she is breaking all of Spotify streaming records with her new album, Midnights.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Neither one of these people are my favorite. I would, if Taylor, okay, so if Taylor Swift started a cult, I would join it. That sounds my right. I am a, and I have been for over a decade, which makes me feel. so old to be able to say that. But it's all I've listened to. I play screaming noises and nose. I love it so much.
Starting point is 00:03:36 No. If we had... I just don't... I think she's full of shit. Really? Yeah. I do. I think she's...
Starting point is 00:03:43 Look, let's make something very clear. Just like Kanye, she's extremely talented. Okay. Extremely a pioneer. And very much not off her shit like Kanye. Right. I'm not putting her in the same camp.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Kanye's fucking crazy. and a lot of shit he's doing is not right. Right. I wouldn't put Taylor in that group, but I just don't care for. Sure. I, it's plastic-y. Oh, I think she's brilliant,
Starting point is 00:04:08 especially with marketing. I think that her marketing campaigns are brilliant. Do you don't think there's plastic people that are brilliant marketing? No, I do, but I think that she's got more depth than that. I think she's got more depth than a Kardashian. Maybe. I think she's southern and smarter maybe than the Kardashians.
Starting point is 00:04:27 But she's not Southern. It's just my opinion. You know, I know it's an unpopular one, but I tell it like I see it. And she's super talented. Like great writer, amazing artist, respect. I respect her. I could respect someone and still have an opinion about her. Sure.
Starting point is 00:04:43 You know, not buying all, not picking up everything that's being thrown down there. 184.6 million streams. I pick that up. I pick that up on, she's thinking billions. That's a lot of money. And incredibly successful, no doubt. Yeah. A bit of Radcast News.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Have you missed this week's episode, Alexa D. Augustino, who's the founder of Think Consulting Group, who helped put on Think Billions was on. She really told her story of entrepreneurship, company she started and sold, and she's had more exits than Elon Musk. I mean, it's crazy. She's been Uber successful. She's running a really great marketing and consulting group. really good episodes. So you should check that off if you did. And that came out this past Tuesday. Then next week, Matt Alonzo, filmmaker. And I would say music videos to the stars for the stars. It's done a million of big artists from Bieber to every other rapper that seems to be hot now. He's done music videos for.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And it was really enlightening. He was not exactly what I expected. You know, it was he's a California. guy, a little right-leaning. It was fascinating. And his growth and kind of process, he really lives by that mantra. I think this true that I talk about all the time is certainly don't give things away, but you lean into opportunities for borrowed interests where, hey, maybe you do a music video for Bieber and don't get paid top money.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Right. But you understand the association that that brings and what that leads to. So smart guy, super talented, his work's amazing. So I really enjoyed talking to Matt Alonzo. That releases next Tuesday. We've got a lot of the episodes and a lot of content from Think Billions events. That will be coming out. We're kind of parsing that away for how that's going to be distributed on the Radcast channel.
Starting point is 00:06:40 So be on the lookout for that. And we've got some big names that I can't quite name yet. But let's just say it's heating up. And, you know, there's a theme song I would play that we'll be. We'll play next week. So some big stuff coming. Yeah, on the Radcast. The, speaking of big things, it's always big things with our sponsor, branded bills, brandedbills.com, official merchandise sponsor of the Radcast.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Always surrounded by merch here in the studio. Got some custom hoodies coming for the Radcast here any week. Yes, any day now. I was a little chilly this morning, wishing I had one. This is the first time I've ever seen you not wearing a branded Bill's hat. I know. in my life. So that should tell you.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Howard, if you're listening to this episode, you should know. And it's not a flat bill. I don't even know what to do. I know. I got the curved bill. Think Bill gets had.
Starting point is 00:07:35 Who are you? And what are you doing? My boss. I know, right? Here it is. I don't know. I mean, I'm usually more of a flat.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Yeah. Is it, you know, does just make my head look weird? No, they both look good. But like, flat bill definitely feels more like your brand.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Yeah. So, even more reason. Yeah. I feel like I got that, who's the Card Bill Country Music Guy with wear sunglasses? Eric Church. All of them?
Starting point is 00:07:57 Oh. All you. Ding. So true. But I think of Eric Church with the sunglasses. I do love Eric Church. I do love Eric Church. But yes.
Starting point is 00:08:09 So branded bills, go check them out. Radcast 20, 20% off your entire purchase at their website, hoodies, beanies, hats. Flannels. And you can custom. anything you want with your logo with custom orders. Just go to our website, the radcast.com. Click on sponsors, click on branded bills,
Starting point is 00:08:31 who get directed to the website with the code already plugged in. And you'll thank us for it because it's quality shit. And we really appreciate branded bills. Braided bills.com. Official merchandise sponsor of the Radcast. Got a few social media holidays. We do. Today is National Chocolate Day.
Starting point is 00:08:50 And I'm sad that that's not on Halloween. but, you know, I'll always celebrate chocolate. I like chocolate, especially milk chocolate. Okay, I'm a dark chocolate person. I don't discriminate, though. I will eat any of it. Milk chocolate, me, jive, especially who's got peanut butter, and it's called Reese's. The best.
Starting point is 00:09:08 The best. Yes. I don't know, but good chocolate bars. It's pretty good. I used to think, like, frou-frou, like milk chocolate was no good, like, you know, it's fancy bars. Yeah. I think my tastes have really evolved because I had one,
Starting point is 00:09:21 and I don't even remember the name of it. It was like some kind of Swiss milk chocolate. Damn, that shit was good. God. I was like melting into the seat, you know? Like, I felt myself getting. An out of body experience. And I'm not, as much as I talk about food, I really don't like crave sweets as much as I do like chips and sauce or something.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Sure. But like, damn, it is pretty good. Chocolate's like its own category, though. I know. You know? If I really didn't have to like watch. My girlish figure sometimes, I would just eat chocolate all day. Same.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Same. All 6.5.2.60. You know, those pounds can get added up. Oh, you know. So good, though. Takes work to look as big as I do. And money. Work and money.
Starting point is 00:10:09 Yes. But yeah, happy National Chocolate Day. Yes. All day. Celebrate. Tomorrow, Saturday. Not Friday. Saturday.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Yeah. Hermit Day. National Hermit Day. What the, is this like a hermit crab or is this like a, you know, like the old man. Hermit? Great. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:30 There's a few of those hanging out around the building sometimes. So like maybe we need to give them a little balloon. Give them free coffee. This is what's confusing though. If it's National Hermit Day and you are a hermit, do you want to be celebrated or do you want to be ignored? Yeah, because don't hermits like not want attention? That's what they are. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:10:49 You know. Exactly. So it's a curious, a curious holiday. It is quite curious. Like, I forget it. So I thought maybe it was hermit crab, you know. What is the actual definition of hermit? The most useless animal of all time.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Hermit crab. Why the hell do people have hermit crabs? Oh, wait, this is fascinating. So that the definition of hermit is a person living in solitude as a religious discipline. So there's the religious element to it. I didn't realize that. But they want to be in solitude. But yeah, we have a social.
Starting point is 00:11:20 They're like monks. Social holiday for someone living in solitude. Right. Do you have so, you're not a Luddite. Like you still have social media. How curious. I'm going to go break some hermits right out of solitude. You know, no solitude for you.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Happy hermit day. Sorry to draw attention to you. Yes. Let's bust that shit right up. Sunday. Sunday's my favorite. Yes, National checklist day. I'm a big checklist person.
Starting point is 00:11:47 You are? I am. I'm sort of not really. I always have a notebook. I've got on my phone. It is, I will make a checklist. And the first thing will be make a checklist just so I can. I write stuff down, but I don't know that I'm a checklist.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Oh, I love it. It's like the most satisfying thing. I email myself or text myself reminders. Sure. And I use Siri reminders. That's my way of remembering things. And I think I'm, I think generally speaking, I'm good at remembering the things I need to be, being where I need to be. Other than the podcast today.
Starting point is 00:12:20 But the, he made it. It's fine. We're here. But checklists that I like, I don't know. I love it so much. And it's great because I keep, I'm a hoarder. I keep all of my notebooks.
Starting point is 00:12:33 So I have like all of my checklists from college. You really are secretly a 70 year old. I'm just like, lady. Weird. Yeah. Pretty much. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Well, also being like a 14 year old boy, it just doesn't make any sense. Don't homeschool your kids. That's all I have to say. Is that where it comes from?
Starting point is 00:12:54 Probably. I think I was just like, I just read too many books too young, maybe. Maybe. Who knows? Yeah. You fed your mind with too many things. Too many things. Too many ideas. And this is a small one on Monday. Halloween. It's Halloween. It's Halloween.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Do you celebrate Halloween? Do your kids dress up? Are you doing anything fun? Does howdy-d-duddy-do-have wooden balls? I couldn't answer that. He does. It was a wooden cartoon. So what are your, what are your kids dressing up as?
Starting point is 00:13:29 You know? Do you know? I think, yeah, like I had to think about it because they've had their, I think Hogan is like a robot costume and NASA is a firefighter or something else. Like, Nicole is a planner. I love it.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I mean, you know, do you and Nicole dress? up. Are you going to be? We have. It's a Monday night though. I know. Halloween. And so we have before and we might last minute. We have some things we could make happen. Yeah. But the boys have had their Halloween costumes. It's like August. I love it so much. That's why I had to think about it because it's. You're like, I've not seen them in a while. I haven't seen them in two months. But yes. Nice. So Halloween, Monday's kind of suck for Halloween. I have rehearsal. I'm so annoyed about it. I'm going to wear my My inflatable sloth costume anyway, though.
Starting point is 00:14:21 I have like an eight-foot inflatable sloth. Yeah, because when kids get all jacked up and they got to go school the next day. It's like, I don't know. Barely enjoy it. But they should, they should like have it on a, I don't know, Saturday night, Friday night. Yeah, and a lot of like the downtown parties are happening on the 29th. Yeah. Are you a, you seem like a Halloween dress-up kind of person.
Starting point is 00:14:44 I love it. I, right. And because of that, I have had a rehearsal on. Halloween, I think since I was 19. Yeah. Like I have always had rehearsal. So I've not had like a fun celebrate Halloween. I'm in a theater.
Starting point is 00:15:00 So typically there are costumes involved, but I still love it. Do you have like a go-to or you change it out depending on the year? I have some like, I have my sloth, which is a go-to, nice and easy. I've been a pirate several times. A witch is always easy. Just let my natural essence come through. Mary Poppins. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:18 So I want to do Mary Poppins. hoppins and bird with my boyfriend, but we couldn't, I'm dying. Apparently, I'm just losing my voice. But I have BB8, like from Star Wars. I have a little like BB8 dress with a headband, which is cute. That's cute. I have BB8 tattoo. That's how much I love BB8.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Oh my God. You're like, what is with this girl? Yes. But the best thing about Halloween is the next day, all of the candies on sale. It's like half off. Loaded here first. Very good. A little tip.
Starting point is 00:15:49 No, no, that. I was like me with Easter or anything else, right? Celebrate All Saints Day with discount candy. Yes. All Saints Day is Tuesday. Yes. Yeah. It's a big Catholic holiday.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Yeah. And then, yeah, no shave November. I mean, that just shows your braining right there that it's become that. It even made our list, you know. I had to put it in there. It's got pretty big. Yeah. No shade.
Starting point is 00:16:10 It's for like what prostate cancer awareness. Yeah. And it's a man problem. The, uh, I will say. the mustache thing you know I might can not shave my entire beard but the whole mustache
Starting point is 00:16:24 I feel like you have to at least trim you know just like general upkeep yeah it's little I will not be participating that's where my feminism stops it depends on if I go to the Halloween party or not what would you be if you were to dress up probably Michael Jackson
Starting point is 00:16:41 it took a long time I was curious and not Yeah. Christmas music. What's this? Yeah. A little controversial question.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Yeah. Are you a Christmas music person before or after Thanksgiving? Or do you care? I don't know that I care. Sure. November 1's a little early. I think November 15th is fine. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Fair. It doesn't have to actually be November 27th or whatever. Yeah, right, right. But number 15th sounds about right. I can do, we can do 40 days of Christmas music. You know, it does, I will say, it doesn't quite seem like Christmas timeish yet. This is the, there's still time. I'm sure it's two months.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I guess it's two months away. Yeah, 60 days. Yeah, I don't know. Just, I feel like it's just been, it hasn't been super cold. I guess I'm just not in that mode yet. Do you listen to Chris music early? Start after Thanksgiving. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I know. I think working in retail for many years, just, I mean, it's, I mean, it's, just as soon as Halloween's over, before Halloween's over, really. You're prepping for Christmas. Yeah. So. We'll say. I don't know. That'd be a good poll question out there.
Starting point is 00:17:59 There it is. Put it up. Christmas music before or after Thanksgiving. You know, or does it matter? I don't know. Controversia. It does start to wear out a little bit. But like, you know, some of those channels that played all the time.
Starting point is 00:18:10 I have to like stagger it. Like, this is what I listen to for this period. And then this is like the real Christmas music and phase myself out of it. Yes. So get all your music trends, all your music, Christmas holiday favorites on your playlist. There you go. Taylor's moved.
Starting point is 00:18:29 He's got some social media news, huh? Yes. And by the time people are listening to this, we may have a different outcome. This is true. It's Elon Musk, so you never really know what's going on. But he is supposed to close his Twitter deal today. It was hilarious.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Before we came in, I looked at his Twitter feed. Twitter with the sink. Well, his titles like King Twitter or something. something. He's just such a piece of work. And then he was carrying a sink in. He's like, let this sink in.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Carried a sink into headquarters. Like literally. I mean. It's such a great. God, it's ridiculous. Accentric. What's happening.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And funny. And brilliant. I'm all, I am both like sad and happy that he's not an American citizen and can't run for president. Right. Yeah. He'd probably get elected. Probably.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Listen. Listen. Yeah. If certain people can make it, then I'm just saying in general, like good, bad or ugly. Right. It's like if I think anyone with the right formula can get elected, you know. I would agree.
Starting point is 00:19:32 And I think he probably's got it's smart enough to do it. And he might be the right person. I mean, for a business thing. I mean, I don't know. Yeah. It's like he might have some brilliant ideas with government. You probably try to throw the whole thing out. Probably.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Which I'm not so sure. some days isn't the right way to do it. But throw the baby out with the bathwater. Start over. I know. This next one is fun. Instagram is testing a new option, which would enable you to have a song on your profile.
Starting point is 00:20:01 There aren't a ton of details. Like Instagram hasn't had a big public statement about it, but they're workshopping whether or not it'll start playing as soon as you go to somebody's profile, what that looks like. I'm going to make, I'm going to back up for one second. I want to make one marketing comment. on Twitter. So this is actually pretty fascinating.
Starting point is 00:20:21 I would do this as soon as they enable it with Instagram. But look, here's what's going on. I have no idea if this is going to be a bomb, if it's going to fail. Even Musk knows that it's a risk. And he had to have every answer. But right now, if you're a marketer and it makes sense, if it at any time has made sense for you to be marketing on Twitter's platform,
Starting point is 00:20:44 now's the time to be on there. Yeah. Because there's so much. media attention, you're getting not only the natural viewers and people that are on there, but you have all this other microscope on it. So keep that in mind that this, it could be the right time to shift some dollars to test on Twitter for marketing because you've got even outside of the normal audience, extra audience that are going to be watching to see what Musk does.
Starting point is 00:21:11 So I think you might get some added value or even just be able to make your dollars go further with how you kind of, I don't know, manipulate that or work through that. So one thing to keep in mind, I've never been a huge Twitter ad guide, but if there was a time I would test it, it'd be now. That's a good piece of advice. But I do like this Instagram, you know, it's personalization. And, you know, it makes sense to me. You could have one on your Tinder profile.
Starting point is 00:21:41 You could have a song, which was always interesting. I had Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Oh, okay. Beatles. And everyone was like, let's get high. And I was like, I'm good. Thanks. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Let's do some gummies. Right. Never again. Never again. CBD gummies for you. I've been burned once. Yes. I can't even do Delta 8.
Starting point is 00:22:06 God. Yeah. So that's a terrible thing, right? What song would you have? I would put, we're working on a new custom radcast. Oh, you'd have a theme song. Okay. If you couldn't do your own branding, what song would you do?
Starting point is 00:22:22 Kanye's. Jesus is king. I think I'd stay away for Kanye for a little while. Even though I do still use his song, like, a couple of his like, you can't, not him rapping, but like the instrumental stuff. Totally. On some things. I wish I might back off now too.
Starting point is 00:22:39 I just don't really want, you know. Yeah, it's like, it's just not worth it right now. Yeah, it's just not worth it. I think everyone should have right to do what they need to do, but it doesn't mean that I agree with everything. And so it would definitely be, I don't know, I got to think about that. Yeah, I think like mine would change frequently. It would change.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I think it would be weekly. Yeah. Be like, what am I feeling? I probably have like Cadillac 3, Jaron Johnson. My man, like I really like their music. That's kind of like an everyday playlist for me. So something like something like that. and then probably some rap song of the week.
Starting point is 00:23:21 And then I've been really digging like a linoem lately and all of that. Yeah. And he does this incredible remix is on some of my like favorite songs. I probably have like something like that. Nice. It might even change by the day like in the morning. I'm working out like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:38 And then, you know, at lunchtime it's kind of like three. By the nighttime, it's, I don't know, sleepy time. Yeah. Oh, that too. Yeah. Postman. Yes, that post-malin would make the cut
Starting point is 00:23:49 multiple times. Totally. So we'll see. What about you? Taylor Swift something? I don't know that. Maybe, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:23:59 That's a little too. Like, pretty much as I love her. That's, no, probably something Mumford and Sons, honestly. That's one of my other,
Starting point is 00:24:07 like, most consistently listened to bands, which, again, very stereotypical. Or musical theater. I'm sure I'd have some kind of like, musical going on at some point. I had a weird dream that involved a band that sounded like Mumford and Sons last night.
Starting point is 00:24:25 It's so funny you said. It's a sign. I read a tweet that said Mumford and Sons sounds like all of the pastries at Starbucks wearing suspenders. Which I thought was very funny. That's pretty funny. You're going to hear some Mumford and Sons at Starbucks and a lot of other random music of the world. Or Frankie Valley or Billy Joel. I would do one of them.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Or like some random African, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Something global, something global. No, global. It's like global music that, like, I don't get, but appreciate. It appeals to someone. I'm like, yeah. I have no idea what this is, but, you know. Nicholas, your son.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I might have some ban hailing, some meetings. There it is. Classic rock, I knew it. Steve Miller band. Yeah. Steve Miller band. I might, you know what, I might just make it get, good, story. So Fall for Greenville was a couple weeks ago and the boys sold water. They made like
Starting point is 00:25:22 $200, $300.00. Smart. Water's out in front of our house because everybody walks by our house. And I had music playing there for them. And they would, I was controlling the music and I had the speaker behind them. Nice. And people walk by and stuff. And I played Pink Floyd Money over again. You know it's the cash register sound at the beginning. Yep. Every time I want by, start restarting the song. So good. So they got their attention. So good.
Starting point is 00:25:50 So good. There you go. Yeah. Money. It's good. Yeah. Does it start playing when you enter the person's profile? That's, we don't know yet.
Starting point is 00:26:01 That's what they're kind of trying to figure out. That'd be great. That's a rat cash register song. If it's an auto player or not. Do you remember the profile song when Facebook first came out? Yes. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:12 Yeah. Bringing it back. Yes. Exactly. Yeah. I like it. Personalization, branding, branding opportunities. If you're artists, hey, great option.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Yeah. Put your music there. If it auto plays, yeah, how that'll work. Music is also, it's so social. Like, it's such an easy way to start a conversation. Or know if you don't want to start a conversation with somebody. I think it's a very cool piece of social media.
Starting point is 00:26:37 I can already see you, you know, ex-naying, you know, whoever doesn't have a song you like or like if they have. They're playing Kanye. I might be like, are we going to have much to agree on? Yes, probably not. I don't know that anyone with the right mind is agreeing with some of the shitties. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:26:55 It might be fairly universal, you know. I don't have a lot of room for hate. The Oscar Meyer, I thought this was fun giving away Lifetime Spide Bacon. What are the details here? Yeah, so the ironic campaign follows research by the brand that found that 53% of vegans. I am one of these people leave their diets in pursuit of bacon. And this is the latest example of the marketer leaning into like a humorous ad campaign. Man, I like this on a lot of levels. Listen. I love bacon so much. You know, I think I dislike vegans as much as I like bacon.
Starting point is 00:27:34 I'm kidding. I'm joking. I really don't care what people eat. But it's more, it's more like when I meet a vegan, we just start on such opposite paths. Yeah. Yeah. Like, you know, I'm a carnivore, bacon eating. Sure. Son of a bee. You know, not really.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Love you mom. But like, all in context here. But like, and then meeting someone that immediately we start right off the bat with being complete opposites on what we eat. It's just little getting off on the wrong foot. So it's less. And I don't even judge them for it. No, I can care less what anybody eats.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Yeah. But typically, it, the planes with which we reside on are very different. I was vegan for like a year for like health stuff. I was like, I was like just trying it. Um, and I made it a year. And I was like, I can't. It was also like the most unhealthy I've ever been because Oreos are vegan. I like the Mediterranean diet.
Starting point is 00:28:34 That's, you know, like that's the best thing for you. You get, you can eat meat on that. Yep. You know. Fish and all kinds of stuff. But that makes sense to me. Yeah. But just going pure.
Starting point is 00:28:45 I don't know. Also, there's something in, like my dad read some article because he's a big health guy. There's something in like bacon grease that's really like it's a different kind of protein. I don't know. But it's supposed to be really good for you. So my dad was like a bacon cake. Oh, there you go. Forget coconut oil.
Starting point is 00:29:02 It's bacon grease. You know, like, I mean, it's just like, yeah. You know, you're eating it. It's like slathers on you, you know, like. So good. Like the popping. Like, Nicole. Nicole and I, one of us, and it's usually Nicole, she's up.
Starting point is 00:29:18 I mean, we're both up at the same time, but she's like up and functional. Right. She's usually frying the bacon. I usually make the pancakes. The boy get bacon and pancakes on Saturdays usually. I love it. And so the house smells like bacon all day. So good.
Starting point is 00:29:31 It's a lovely aroma. So good. Nothing like it. I will say this. For a marketing standpoint, it's brilliant. because look, it just makes so much sense. It like leans right into the contrary of what it is. And they've like pixeled out the bacon on the ad
Starting point is 00:29:45 to make it look like it's, you know, like a nude almost. It's very funny. Yes. Very smart. Very smart marketing. Sticking with our meat theme, McDonald's double dips on nostalgia with a farewell tour for the McRibb. You a McRibb?
Starting point is 00:29:59 Double dip the chip. For those Seinfeld fans out there, don't double dip the chip. I always hear, I mean, there's certain things from Seifil. They're so iconic. Seed lines. You don't even know they're from Seinfeld. It's so iconic. But yeah, I never liked the McRib, though.
Starting point is 00:30:14 I've never had one. Yeah. There's some people that love that shit. I just don't know if I'm a grip guy. I mean, I appreciate the nostalgia of it all. It's been around forever. But are they really going away with it forever? Is it just like the temporary farewell?
Starting point is 00:30:31 Listen, after the Twinkie ordeal, I don't ever trust a brand that says they're retiring a product. Twinkie dead or whatever. Right. And then they brought it back. The planters peanut died. Right. Yeah, exactly. But they have a like shop online and they've got items priced as low as 99 cents.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Available through. 99 cents pretty cheap for a McGriff sandwich. Like a dollar or a dollar money. Exactly. I don't know what goes in that rig rib. I'm not sure about that. You know. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:30:57 Who knows? McDonald's. Yeah. I can't. Mystery. That's good. That's good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Mystery. Yeah. You know, look, McDonald's marketing is always good. They're always, like, leaning into something. And it's one of the biggest brands, iconic brands in the world. So who's to tell them what to do? What's interesting about some of the choices with these fast food chains and the way that they're marketing is, like, when I was a kid, you know, which 10, 12, whatever many years ago, it was, like, fast food still felt so new. And, like, they were trying to be so groundbreaking.
Starting point is 00:31:33 breaking and I think it's so interesting and I love that now it's all play on nostalgia and like back to the 90s back to the 80s which I think is just a very you know they need to bring the damn characters back though right where's the hamburger right I mean are we really so politically correct what was the hamburger one what was the purple one yeah like the I don't know a blob whatever he was all that's coming is dummy you know and then Ronald McDonald is he like
Starting point is 00:31:58 you know is it because of clowns who knows is that the scary is that why is there something creepier Birdie, the early bird. Yeah, like, what are those characters coming back? Because they're creepy. The hamburger is creepy, you know? The hamburger is calming to you? Yeah, it's fun.
Starting point is 00:32:18 They should bring them back, though. I mean, like, Jack in the box has the Jack thing. I really hope this is not a politically correct thing. Like, if there's some. I don't think it is. Like the hamburger. Oh, he's stealing burgers. No.
Starting point is 00:32:29 How could you have that? This is a bad example. You know someone says that. Someone's saying. Bad example for children that he's stealing burgers. But I don't think that's why they're not. I'm like frantically Googling things. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I mean, there aren't a lot of mascot, you know, characters now. Because I think they just like got a little bit overdone, maybe a little bit creepy. Like turkey cheese, same thing. Coalid man. Yeah. You don't say that either. Oh, yeah. Oh, that was good.
Starting point is 00:32:57 That was good. He busts through the brick wall. Yes, yes. It was great. iconic, busting Oh, yeah. These budgets? I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:33:07 But that is funny. You don't see. He just breaks through the brick wall. He's the Kool-A guy. What the hell that was supposed to signify? He come busts into a brick wall every time. No rhyme or reason to it. But my God,
Starting point is 00:33:19 did you remember? And you remember. I haven't seen that commercial in 20 years. I remember it. Maybe because I've been marketing or just weird. I don't know. It's because it's good marketing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:29 That's what it is. Oh, yeah. But it is interesting. It's kind of like a super mach man, savage. Kind of the same thing. Next one. Again, it's always food related. Oreo Sins, which is a whole other conversation,
Starting point is 00:33:45 but they've partnered with Microsoft 365 to encourage workers to take a snack break. This is fun. Consumers can visit a designated landing page to receive a thin bite in their inbox that will block off 2 to 2.15 p.m. Eastern time on the calendars from November 1st through the 3rd for a snack. break. And then it links to a Microsoft Teams event, which watches like you can watch a video of a puppy while you eat your Oreo things. Puppies and kids that sells. And Oreos.
Starting point is 00:34:16 The, uh, I like this play, but let me just say this. Oreo's got like covered on all angles here because now you got, you can buy those ultimate Oreos that are literally, you know, like four inches. It's all mega stuff. They're my favorite. Now I got the fins. Which is a mistake. I need more cream filling than the thin's got, you know? I love the megas.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Right. The double stuff is where it's at. Yeah. Perfect ratio. Yeah, double stuff is good. Love. Without the cookies. Hey, oh.
Starting point is 00:34:47 An entendre. Yes. I like the golden Oreos. Yes. Yes. Thank you. Thank you very much. That's the elite cookie.
Starting point is 00:34:57 It's a popular opinion. I really do like sweets, but I just stay away from them. so I don't get fat. Yeah, that's probably what it is. You know, maybe that's what I think I've just made myself, told myself I don't like them. But then every dessert we talk about it, I'm like, okay, I do like that. I do like that. But I keep them away.
Starting point is 00:35:14 And no one has more willpower than me because if you come into my house with four kids, do you know how many different freaking snacks there are in our cabinet? Like, I have the greatest willpower ever. Now, I might have a few M&Ms at night, but like, but I bypassed like 47 other, like. Yeah, I can't buy it. No, no, I like living alone. Like, it was, I learned very quickly. I was like, oh, like, it's in the house.
Starting point is 00:35:36 You're going to eat it. Right. And then you realize, like, I've had to. I'm the only person who's eating it too. It's like, who, where do they go? And then I'm like, oh, no. Yeah. You buy it.
Starting point is 00:35:44 It's the whole cake. I have to bypass it and it's there. Right. In my physical presence. No, couldn't do it. Yes. Couldn't do it. I mean, this is a cool crossover.
Starting point is 00:35:53 I, it seems like a little bit of a reach, but, you know, what. It's cute. It's cute. They invite. Yeah. Two to two 15. I get it. Watch a puppy.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Yeah. We did a campaign. We're a card either where we're like we could tell you all about cars. Instead we're just going to show you these puppies and it crushed it. It like we showed puppies playing. That's so good. Listen, animals. Got the click through.
Starting point is 00:36:22 It was like the highest I ever got. That's so good. I love that. We could try to give you a generic card either ad, but instead we're just going to show you this 10 second video of puppets playing. And I would have remembered the car too. And it was like this puppy stumbling around like going down slides and like it was cute. And click the right was ridiculous. I love it. So puppies and babies work. Always. Last article of the day, Coca-Cola,
Starting point is 00:36:46 this is good news. Significantly ups marketing spend in preparation for a dynamic 2023. Can't we're near the end of 2022. Having significantly stepped up its consumer facing marketing investments over the last three months, the drinks giant claims it has already seen this spend pay off in brands such as Sprite, which is now a $1 billion brand. Sprite alone is a $1 billion brand. Ding, ding, ding. Somebody gets it. One of the biggest brands in the world. Everybody's cutting back. They're spending more and they're getting ROI. Now it helps that they have a product that might be somewhat recession proof. But at the same time, they're leveraging the pullback to get, that means they break through more. Everyone else pulls back. You break through more. Get it. And Coca-Cola is a, I mean,
Starting point is 00:37:33 they are, they are icons. I can't talk either. You're passing it on to me. Welcome to the show. Did you know that the very first time Santa Claus was ever seen in a red suit was on a Coca-Cola billboard? That sounds right. I think I did. Isn't that wild? Yes, it is wild. And I have not heard that fact until a long time. I do recall that. Yes. The first image, you know, right, and a night before Christmas, that poem is obviously what gave us the iconic image. But never, not once in that poem doesn't mention anything about a red suit. And it was Coca-Cola that did that with their colors. And now that's all you ever see him in, which is fascinating.
Starting point is 00:38:11 That is fascinating. And what's really fascinating is Coca-Cola smart. They're, look, significantly stepped it up. Look, next year's going to be weird. And I think, I don't think it's like just spin willy-nilly. Like just, oh, yeah, spend more. I'm not saying that. But there's going to be some real opportunities for brands to break through because
Starting point is 00:38:36 there's going to be pullback. And I think there's going to be some value positioning for brands that may not always have the opportunity to stand out. I think there's going to be some deals in media. And I think those that are bold will win. Yeah. It's just the way it goes. And, you know, it's going to be interesting for some luxury brands on some levels.
Starting point is 00:38:59 But I think if I'd be thinking about positioning secondary products, different things like that, a lot of these companies have sub brands, different brands now. So like layering that stuff on. But I think Coke's been really smart this year with their marketing. I didn't really love the new campaign like something magic. I don't know. It was a little frou-frou. But I think the tactics have been better than maybe the overarching. campaign, my opinion, you know, we've all got one.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Sure. But just like you said, I couldn't believe that just bright of love was worth a billion. Wow. That's incredible. I had to double check that. Which I guess makes sense, but damn. Yeah. You know?
Starting point is 00:39:40 I can't imagine being a brand and having like one facet of my brand being a billion dollars. I didn't really like the Coke energy. It went by the way side like I said it would. About a year and a half ago, it came out. I said, you're going to watch. You're going to watch this from being on middle shelf I view to the bobo shelf on Lane 4. And sure enough, it's on every value. I think I saw it at the dollar store the other day next to the C.J. Max.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Coat coffee. T.J. Max. And yeah. So they do just need to buy like freaking bang or like one of the established names. Like, yeah. I think they may have already been bought by Pepsi. But one of the. And I think that's where they need to go.
Starting point is 00:40:22 instead of trying to make Coke. I don't know. They'll cross the brands. Keep it separate. Yeah. Yes. That's all we got. That's all we got for today.
