You're listening to the Radcast.
If it's radical, we cover it.
Here's your host, Ryan Alford.
Hey guys, what's up?
Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast.
It's Friday, September 23rd, 22, our weekly marketing, advertising, and business news of the week.
Welcome to the first day of fall.
Yes, I'm very excited.
Yes.
It's my season.
It's Libra season.
My birthday's coming up.
White girl fall.
The season of Christina.
Yes.
I thought I was going to get kind of a rhyme there.
Chris season.
I get the attempt.
I'm tracking with...
Libra.
What is the Libra?
Like the image?
It's the scales.
No, I know that, no, but what's...
Give me like the, you know, I'm Torres, Bull, a little stubborn.
I know those.
I'm incredibly indecisive.
Hmm.
But also very fair.
Indecisive.
Yes.
Libra, so it's just starting?
Starts through fall.
Okay.
All right.
September 23rd through October 22nd, I think.
So if Indecisive is kind of like not a great quality, what's the best quality of a Libra?
I'm very diplomatic and quite charming.
I've been told.
Oh.
Read my lips.
No.
I don't know what that means.
I'm a delight.
I'm a delight.
I'm kidding.
Sort of
Taurus has also been known for
Telling lies
There it is
Yeah
I don't know
I don't get into the planetary things too much
Like it's interesting
I do think there's some truths to it
Sure
But I don't know if we make them truths
Or they really are true
Yeah I don't
I would say I don't buy into it
Hook line and sinker
But like
Just hook in line
Just hook in line
Not in the sinker
Right
You're bobbing on top of the water
But you're in the water
I'm holding on something
I'm just not sinking
Yes, yes. So happy fall, y'all.
There it is.
Coming from South Carolina.
You're going to hear that and see that.
It was so cute when it first had.
I first saw, oh, that's kind of cute.
Right.
And now I'm kind of like, yeah.
Hate it.
Yeah.
All right.
Door hangar Central.
I think it's on our, I think Nicole has it on one of our door hangers.
We have door hangers on our front of our house.
I'm sure.
I mean, Nicole's out with, we have more pumpkin design.
She has a, her and my mother are very much alike.
Design for every.
Every season.
They say you marry your parents.
I mean, you know, literally like pumpkins everywhere.
What's her favorite season?
Like Halloween or Christmas?
I'm beginning to think it's fall, but by the volume of decorations.
There you go.
I don't know.
I think she likes it.
I think we like fall because we're football people and Clemson people and like tailgating and all that stuff.
It's a fun time.
It's a good season.
Yeah.
So, yes, it's been a good week here.
at the agency and you had a good week.
I've been very busy.
Yeah, yeah, been very tired.
Yeah.
How was doing any comedy recently?
I did.
I was actually in Asheville last night.
I drove up there.
How'd that go?
It was great.
Okay.
It was great.
I wasn't sure how.
For anyone listening, Christina Yossi, if you're going to get on the road and see some comedy.
There you go.
I'll be in Rock Hill, October 21st.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
How long is your set?
My full set is about 15 minutes.
I'll be doing 10 in Rock Hill, give or take.
How did, was it good response last night?
Yeah, I did, like, material I wrote two years ago.
And there's a lot of it, like, that's about Bob Jones.
So I wanted to see how that would perform, not in Greenville.
Yeah, did it?
Yeah.
They didn't, they weren't familiar with it.
Or if they were, they didn't, like, respond when I said the name of the school.
But they understood it was a Christian highly conservative school.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
They did.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
So it went well.
That's cool.
I'm funny for a girl.
Scientology.
I wish.
Funny for a girl.
You're just funny.
Thank you.
Yeah, speaking of funny, I saw this.
Didn't really necessarily make the news articles.
Right.
And look, I'm late to the game on Ted Lasso.
Like, I've heard about it for four years, three years.
How long it's been out?
Sure.
And I've known it, but I've kind of been reserving it.
Sure.
Because I had other, we don't have the time to watch a ton of shows.
Right.
So we kind of, I kind of get, bank some.
This one's been in the bank for a while.
We're on like episode five.
or six.
What do you think?
Oh, it's awesome.
It's perfect.
It's the best.
Expected, unexpected, I don't know.
It's, you know, it's great.
The writing is terrific.
And Ted Lasso actor that I don't know.
Jason Sedacas.
Yeah.
Almost Sadecas.
He's great.
He's now a character.
They now have the full team on the 2023 FIFA soccer video game.
I would now play this game.
All I play is be Ted Lasson.
I just want to be, everybody's just going to be Ted Lasson.
Ted and Roy.
Yeah.
Oh, God, it's so good.
So, yeah, so that's out.
So if you're sure be a gamer or not a gamer.
Ted Loss fan, I'd play it.
I'm not a gamer.
You know, it's how you get crossover marketing.
That's how it is, though.
It's good for the show, good for the game.
There you go.
How many more copies of the game might they sell because of the Lassow?
Look, I would do it.
You know?
Dead ass.
Speaking of celebrity endorsements and crossover,
Brad Pitt has a new face line out.
Yes. Are you going to try it?
We got to see if we can't use in symbols.
It does say that it's genderless.
Yes.
So I'm actually a male.
We can't both try it.
I have to use it.
Because I'm a male.
You have to be genderless.
I feel like you're missing that.
But okay, that's so open-minded of you.
I love that you're holding space.
I thought it's just for confused people.
Sign me up.
Yeah, I'm not confused, personally.
I just, I love when celebrities come out with skincare brands because it's like, right,
you look this way because of lotion and not because of like, you know.
Lots of surgery.
Human growth hormone.
Yeah, whatever that is.
Hey, give me whatever he's got.
He looks pretty good.
He's always been handsome.
Oh, I know.
But he does, you know, especially because he smoked.
I mean, he was a smoker for probably like, I don't know.
Somebody's going to tell me.
He would smoke for 20 years.
It was the same like 10 years.
I mean, he would.
You'd see him all sets and do stuff.
Like, he was obviously for a while.
And he's recovered nicely.
I would say so.
Or never had to.
Right, right, right.
And a lot of people I know that smoked or smoked heavily,
and it's become almost faux pot now, surprisingly,
with vaping and everything else.
I guess people are doing it.
It's not, you know, cigarettes.
But the smoke blowing in your face.
Have a little bit of a grit to them.
Wear and tear.
Yeah, the Marlboro man.
Yes.
old Seinfeld.
Kramer smoking cigars
like for just a month straight
around the smoke and he turned into an old man.
It's quite funny.
Anyway,
Le Domain is Brad Pitt's
skincare line.
And you know,
I see these kind of things come out
and I assume
kind of like, you know,
you used to you the number of like Kardashians stuff
like billions of dollars.
I mean,
I assume Brad's face line will do
wonderfully.
I mean, right?
I would say so.
Would you buy it or try it?
So with skincare, I would wait and see like reviews.
And if it's good, absolutely.
Okay.
But I'm not just going to buy it because it's Brad Pitt.
And because it says, Le Domain.
Le Desmond?
And I can't do French.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I just pretend.
So yeah.
Good for Brad.
I really won't hope he gets a hit.
I mean, he's just never been successful.
But finally is big break.
I know, his big break.
Brad was so proud.
He's so ugly.
He never gets any.
Parts and movies are beautiful women.
Never dated attractive women.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, good luck to Brad.
Hopefully that works out for him.
The, uh, speaking of working out on some level, I have signed up for an app called the Wisdom
app.
You need to check it out.
I saw this on your Instagram.
Yeah.
It's pretty cool.
I've gotten some really random questions.
I haven't answered yet.
I've probably left like 12 questions.
What's the weirdest one you've gotten?
Can you tell us?
No.
no weird ones. A lot, pretty thoughtful. Like, if you could tell yourself something 20 years ago,
what would you tell yourself? Sure. And stuff like that. Uh, and I'm going to actually,
I've got to get my adapter for my, I have a USB podcast, Mike. I didn't want, I was being a little,
uh, I didn't want to just talk into the phone and it not sounds like professional. Right. Right.
When I gave my answers. It's getting saved on the, uh, Instawebs forever. So, uh, once I get my adapter,
I'm going to go answer a lot of the questions that are there.
But it's pretty cool.
So wisdom.
Dot audios, how you download the app?
Pretty cool.
They sent me a invite for that.
So I'm verified over there,
which just means you know it's me.
And you can actually click on,
if you search for me, Ryan Alford, on the app,
you can find it.
Then you'll see on some of my stories and stuff.
I'm going to post where you can ask me a question.
And yes, they have that on Instagram and stuff like that.
And I've done those.
But what's cool about this is I'll answer it.
voice and you'll get a notification and you don't even have to have the app to ask the questions
and get sent I guess like a notification with my response but of course I want you to download the app
can you save the response? Yeah it saves in my profile under the question asked and then my answer
if I want to save it. Fascinating. And then it has some legs I think to me it's a smarter version of
Clubhouse to be quite frankly because it's like you record certain answers. You sure
Short form audio, like, is really what it's about.
I mean, they certainly have longer live talks and things, but I like what I see so far.
Yeah.
I think it's got some possibilities.
So I'm going to play around with it and see how it goes.
And if I don't just get tired of it, like six months, like any other app, or forget about it.
But just keeping it real here, folks, you know.
But it looks pretty cool enough that I'm giving it a shot.
So check it out, wisdom.
Dot audio.
You'll download it on your phone.
And I do think there's some pretty interesting.
possibilities with it.
So take a look at that.
Other Radcast News,
we have Sean Merriman next week.
Great episode with him.
Tuesday.
Yeah.
Ex-N-Fel All-Pro.
He's involved in three to four brands.
Really good guy.
That was great.
I mean, he's doing a podcast out of something extremely well-spoken
and like getting after it,
like in like three or four different things.
And his lights out brand is,
incredible yeah that's what he's that was the first one isn't it it's like ufc he started with apparel and
fitness stuff and now he's like it he's kind of like the minor leagues of ufc okay kind of like
fighters before they make it to ufc sure he's got a whole promotion uh he's out there he talked
about that and talked about his business he had a life insurance company he's out there everywhere
and what's so funny about these NFL guys he played he's an all pro for like six eight years
and he's 38.
I mean, the guy looks 25.
Like, you know, some of these NFL guys,
you think about, oh, they retired
and it seems like a long time ago, like for me,
because he retired like 2013.
The guy looks, I mean, I know they took a lot of,
I'm sure their bones hurt.
So it's easy for me to say, or they look.
But, you know, it's like crazy,
millions of dollars and retired.
And I'm sure there's a lot of examples
that didn't make that.
But he's turned his,
what's interesting.
And we had this discussion about how he's turned, you know, his leverage and his fame into these businesses immediately.
And I think some people make that transition faster than others.
Yeah. Some people would just kind of wait and then go back to.
And then some people, he said, just can never recover because the highs of playing in the pros, like just everything that comes with it, the structure and everything else, a lot of people struggle coming out of it.
It almost sounds like, I mean, like what you just said reminds me of people who come out of the military.
I use that exact analogy with him.
And he said, yes, it's similar to that.
Like just not having that boundary.
But the structure, the camaraderie.
Yeah.
And then, of course, the high on game day of, you know, 70,000 people, square men.
Right, right.
The combination of all of those things.
God can't imagine.
Yeah, so Sean Merriman.
Look for that episode next week on the podcast Tuesday.
Check it out.
Check it out.
We had a good re-release this week with Christopher Lockhead.
If you're starting a business, you need to go listen to that episode.
One of the most insightful guys.
You know, there's few people in my ear in this business any longer just because there's a lot of noise out there.
But Christopher Lockhead is firmly in my like pantheon of greats in marketing and business in general.
And so you need to check that out.
So many nuggets in that.
So that released this past Tuesday.
So if you didn't listen to that, give this shot.
And speaking of giving a shot, you.
You need to give a shot to our official merchandise sponsor.
And no, it's not a liquor.
It's a...
Oh, liquor.
Really nor.

Is that the color?
Like Heather Gray, yes, yes, okay.
Not Rebecca.
It's the Heatherly.
What color would Heather be?
Heather.
Like as a person.
Blonde?
I think blonde too.
Yeah.
I think blonde too.
I don't know why.
I had a dance teacher named Heather who was blonde, so I always think of that.

And, I mean, the Who's Who list of really successful.
entrepreneurs.
And go to Think Billions.
That Club, you'll get a lot more details.
But let me tell you, this is where big deals are happening.
We didn't call it millions.
We call it billions for a reason.
Billionaires, average net worth is in like seven, eight figures, minimum.
And so you need to come hang out.
We need to make some deals happen.
And you know what?
We're going to be recording episodes of the radcast for some of the guests that are going to be there.
So sign up at things.
Bigillions. Club.
Exciting.
We got some social media holidays.
They do indeed.
As we mentioned,
first day of fall,
but it is also the lesser known holiday
of National Checkers Day.
Checker.
I barely know her.
That's the stick.
That was why I put it in the show notes.
National Checkers Day.
You know,
my kids like checkers.
Yeah.
I'm more of a chess guy.
I was going to ask.
You know, that seems right.
But,
But now the kids are getting into chess now.
They like, it was first checkers.
Now they're learning to play chess.
Natural progression.
Yeah.
And so it's cool.
I mean, I have a lot of fond memories growing up.
Like checkers, like, if you say it to me, I think two things.
Number one, the failed burger franchise that was in Greenville.
That's right.
They had really pretty good French fries.
Great French fries.
Yes.
Great French fries.
I'm not sure about anything else.
And they have, right, the first ones, they have the little drive-thrues.
You couldn't go inside of checkers.
Just a drive-thru, which seemed to odd.
It's a cookout now.
It was like, it seemed to odd back in the day.
Right.
You can't go in?
They always have like W-W-E toys.
I don't know why I remember that.
I don't remember that.
But I do remember the fries.
So that and then, of course, checkers playing growing up and playing and thinking I was king me.
Yeah, you know.
Yeah.
So National Checkers Day is today.
Get your checkers out and play the hell out of them.
There you go.
Tomorrow, national ghost hunting day.
Yeah.
Man.
You live in ghosts?
I believe there are spirits among us.
I don't think that we can probably see them or hear them.
Sure.
I think there's probably something going on.
Fair.
But I don't believe in any of these ghosts like.
Yeah.
They do those hunters, stories like that.
I do think some houses can have some bad karma, bad chi and like, bad energy and all that.
I think there's truth to that because I've felt.
Yeah.
I'd walking in some places before, and I didn't know why.
There's some kind of energy going on.
But I don't really believe that ghouls and goblins are like walking among us per se.
But I do think there's just too many, I don't know.
There's too much unexplained.
Yeah.
I probably starting to believe in UFOs all shit.
I've been reading like that.
Anyway, another day and another episode.
Sunday the 25th, National Lobster Day.
Man, I love some lobster.
You like lobster?
I don't think I've ever had lobster.
I like seafood, though.
The look of shame.
The disdain.
You got to have, lobster's like, I like to eat.
Same.
I talk about it.
We talk about food on the show all the time.
And so,
lobsters like one of the great treasured,
treasures of with lobster lightly, you know, steamed and then a little butter.
Like, there's like, it's like heaven on earth, you know.
Yeah.
I've never, I've never, I have never had like a, or a lobster roll.
Nope, never.
Oh my God.
Oh, my God.
Never.
So there's a good lobster roll.
You had me at a hell of like, like literally unlimited.
Like I can eat them every day.
Yeah.
Okay.
I never get tired of them.
Okay.
I would never want to live in Maine.
It's too cold.
It's too far north.
But if there was one place I might would live,
would be up there if it was a Maine lobster.
It's like just hugging them and hanging out.
Before you eat them?
But the probably thing is I'd have like pet lobsters,
but then I'd eat them.
You know, like, I love you, buddy.
A vicious cycle.
But you're going to taste good on my roll.
A vicious cycle.
So Sunday, the 25th, National Lobster Day.
The 26th, this is a good day, too.
Pancake Day.
I like some pancakes.
The offered house might break some records on the poundage of pancake mix that we go through.
The chocolate chip pancakes, plain baby, plain baby.
With butter and syrup?
Butter and syrup.
Yeah, and the kids, everybody likes pancakes.
You know, bacon and pancakes frequent the offered home quite a bit on the weekends especially.
Yeah. It's like, these kids, expecting pancakes, you know. So I'm a pretty good pancake maker.
I love making them as a kid. I'm a much better pancake maker than Nicole.
Well, you were a sous chef.
Yes, I was. But pancaking takes a little.
There's a technique to it.
Yeah. All on the wrist.
And you don't want to, you got to know when to flip them, no one to hold them, no one to fold them.
And you got to have that gruddle just warm enough and not too hot.
Same.
Because they get burned, and it doesn't even look that burned, it tastes burned.
Yep.
Like, it's not golden brown.
If it's a little too golden brown, it tastes burnt.
Yep.
Sorry.
Too crispy.
And I'll send that shit back.
I'll be like, I've gotten to the table.
And it looks okay.
Yeah.
But I know.
I'll take one little, no, take that back.
I need to come back there.
And I'm about that guy usually with stuff like sending back.
But with pancakes, you don't want to burke.
A few things better than a good pancake and then a burnt pancake.
True.
Being terrible.
It's a fine, thin line.
Yeah, pancakes and lobsters this weekend.
There you go.
Pancake lobster roll.
Sunday, Monday.
Happy fall.
You have a pancake day here at the office, you know?
Uh-huh, challenge accepted.
Yeah, I don't know.
I can do it.
I could do it.
Make it for everyone.
There's your social holidays.
Yes, onto our social media news.
I've got some fun little articles.
YouTube outlines a new monetization program for shorts creators.
We knew this was coming.
Beginning in 2023,
creators who have at least a thousand subscribers and
draw a minimum of 10 million shorts views over a 90-day period can apply for YPP
and perks therein, such as monetization from across shorts and long-form videos.
Yes, I saw this, and I think you're going to see more and more of this where, you know,
they're going to have to.
I made the analogy or comparison of like programming, you know, who gets paid.
Like, they pay millions of dollars for these shows to get produced.
And then we're the creator.
or anyone that puts content to social media.
And I think you're going to see more and more competition for the best creators.
And so they've got to pay them.
And a thousand subscribers does not seem high as in like entrance number, entry number for this.
No, but 10 million shorts you use or 90s.
I mean, that's.
Yeah, that's significant.
That's significant.
But I think you're going to see more and more monetization.
type changes, like in different things.
Yeah.
Like literally.
Do you think that will, just opinion,
do you think that that will increase the quality of content or decrease it?
Like, what people sell out or do you think that it will like increase creative?
I think in the short term it would increase.
Okay.
You know, it's like everybody's kind of a TV station now.
We're all TV stations.
Like, and there's going to be, there's a taste for different things.
but now there's a set of what 100 TV stations
every person like there's
billion billion people and like so there's a lot of different
tastes and a lot of different niches it's gonna
you're gonna see this niching down which is kind of back
to what we had flavors last week where
the cooking stuff and the content creators there
and there but you know I can see people getting paid
for doing that and that's a channel within you know like
it does so I think
nickel and dime you yeah but I think in the short term it'll get better
but you know to get the
views you got to the content has to be no matter what we think is good or bad if it's getting
that many views then it's grabbing attention yeah i just don't know like there's a formula to this
stuff like my kids watch these youtube videos like demos and like watching other people play
video games was kind of a twitch thing obviously but and i mean it's just crazy but there's kind of a
formula to all of it yeah absolutely some staging algorithm
on some levels, you know, Jake Paul.
Fascinating.
All right.
What else we got?
So Be Real, which we've talked about a lot, not a ton to report, but they are considering adding paid features as opposed to advertisements, which I think is an interesting twist just on the monetization aspect of it.
Yeah.
Since it is a free, like, there is none of that right now.
Yeah.
So am I reading this right?
I didn't read as much report.
like you pay for the features in the app?
Yes.
Okay.
Yes.
Like editing aspects of it, filters, things like that.
That's interesting.
To deal with advertisements.
Yeah.
That's interesting.
I think it goes back to show like, what is this platform?
Is this a creation platform or is this going to be truly social media?
Because if you're paying to create, you're going down the avenue of a creator creation platform.
Right.
You know
But if it's, you know, if it's social,
I think that this makes more sense for them
because if it's a purely social app
and you end up with
like having to watch a video or something.
Like I'm,
and it's all like timed.
Yeah.
I would get annoyed and delete the app.
Yeah.
I don't know.
So we'll see.
We'll see.
It's an interesting turn.
Or they just don't want to compete.
They know they're long term.
They can't compete with TikTok and Facebook.
Probably if they get,
and they may have been able to scale.
are ready to be bought, they have data and stuff.
Yeah.
We'll see how it goes.
But that's it for social media.
Yeah.
This next one on to our marketing news.
I thought this was a fascinating number.
Retail media makes up 11% of global ad spend.
This year's retail media spend represents 18% of global digital advertising and 11% of total advertising.
The study was done by Group M, and they estimate that retail advertising will increase roughly 60% and reach $160 billion by 2020.
I mean, pandemic's over.
Uh-huh.
You know, so.
This is the pendulum, like,
Pendulum swing,
hardcore swinging the other direction.
And they need people back in the stores.
And whether that's online or offline,
I imagine retail makes up both.
Uh, but foundation of a lot of retail is still brick and mortar for some.
And so nine times out of 10, that's the preferred.
Like, if you have that option, that's preferred.
Yeah.
And so they got a, you know,
They've got to, they're going to be competing even if, you know, you see dips and other things.
Like, you've got to get competitive again because what you see, and I've noticed this, whether it's retail stores or restaurants, there's still some that are that hung on, hung on, hung on that are closing.
Yep.
Even in Greenville, we've seen some of this, like some restaurants that historically have been great.
Yeah.
But with labor costs and food costs and like other things.
competition like the competition like they're still and i think so thus these retailers you know that
have made it to come on the other side of it have got to get things back out there and continue
to elevate their brand and then promote you know right expand as much as possible you know so
you know 160 billion yeah it's a lot of money and 27 is not that far away no it sounds like a
long time ago right long time far away
Far, far away, galaxy in 20, 27.
It kind of does sound like an old Star Wars date, you know.
It's only four years now, three years, you know.
Four and some change.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Up next we have some food.
You'll be old.
You'll be 30.
I will.
I will.
Too old for Leo.
Yes.
Too old for Leo.
I've been joking that I'm almost 33 for years ago.
But we've got some food news.
Yes.
Carl Jr.'s hearties.
You a hearties fan?
I eat some hardies.
I used to eat their breakfast a lot.
I like, I like Hardy's.
I got a little better at biscuits.
Like everybody got a little better at them.
That's it.
That's the market.
Like, we had the best biscuits.
Sausage.
Hardy's breakfast back in the day when I grew up.
You went there for sausage biscuit, biscuit and gravy.
Telling you, you know, I know, I know you wonder how I'm not 400 pounds talking about food.
But they're refreshing your brand identity.
And lots of HGH.
It's Brad Pitt's skincare.
That's what you use.
Don't lie.
I don't take HCH.
But Hardee's is refreshing your brand.
identity with a flavor as the inspiration.
The new design system is inspired by the brand's flavors and ingredients, including a made-over
Happy Star logo and other design elements that are textured to invoke charbroiled burgers,
a bold color palette, and impactful typography.
This is so fun.
Yeah.
I mean, what's interesting.
Have you seen the logo?
It is.
Look, they've got to stand out.
I think the biggest problem that Hardee's has had over the years and the reason they're
on my radar. Number one, I forget them. I forget them. The market, there's just nothing
really stand out about it. I get hearties and Wendy's. And my kids always want to go to McDonald's.
Right. Because they love happy meals and I think they put crack in the food. And I'm joking
McDonald's. It's a joke. They're addicted to your happy meals. The, and then if I want like a
like a fast food burger, Flamberworld Burger King, pretty good. Not that stand out either. But if I'm
going to choose the best burger there are Wendy's probably.
Wendy's is what I would do.
And so, like, Hardies is kind of like the, you know, the odd man out.
I don't eat that much personally.
I don't eat much fast food.
And there's nothing else around.
My kids eat McDonald's about once a week.
We limit it.
We limit it to that.
Not counting hotcake Friday with the older boys.
We do hotcake Friday.
McDonald's if you're out there, he's already been sponsoring us.
175 school Fridays in a row.
we made until the pandemic.
We've picked it back up, literally.
Back on it.
I should be the official sponsor of, I mean, it was Hotcake Friday.
Look, start making TikToks.
Start making TikToks.
It'll happen.
Anyway, back to my hearties.
You know, you got to stand out people.
Like, this is like, if you, and you got to lean into it.
You got all this competition and in a heavily crowded category.
So this makes sense to me.
I have no idea how it all is going to come together.
and what it all is going to taste like, you know, you know, drippy, messy, and indulgent.
Which are not words I would associate with hearties, but maybe now.
But you know what?
After reading this, we'll see it get implemented.
I'll give it a shot.
I'll try some hearties.
I'll try some hearties.
Maybe on air.
Maybe not.
So we got to start eating on the podcast.
Carl Jr.
Yes.
Key here, stand out or stand down.
Either way, we'll eat burgers.
Yes.
This next one, your favorite alcohol of all time.
Ha-ha-ha.
Mike's hard lemonade pays consumer.
No.
There it is.
Pays consumers to take PTO.
This is very smart.
Now through September 28th, consumers can apply for MTO, which is Mike's time off, for a chance
to win $200 for one day's worth of time off.
Winners will be paid electronically via Zell or Venmo.
The giveaway comes as a fear of recession loom.
and could boost the brand's presence among price-conscious Gen Z consumers.
Yeah, this is fun.
I mean...
I'd love to be paid by Mike Sar.
Yeah.
I don't know whoever gets them as a sponsor after a few sticks.
Negative.
I like Marksard, but it's because I'm young and I still like lemonade.
Yeah.
I don't, you know, drink it often.
Yeah.
But...
I'm going to leave it there.
Good call. Good call.
I caught it.
And I appreciate it.
I like this play a lot. It's fun. MTO. It's clever.
Mike's timeoff.com. I don't quite understand the mechanism here. So you get received $200 for one day's worth of time off. They're just going to pay you.
Unless you get the time off. It's for.
I mean, because are they, are you, mics, are you paying my employees to drink while their work?
Like, is that what's happening here?
From when I read in the article, it's people who don't get PTO.
This is an option.
So there's some kind of like vetting process.
I get it.
Obviously, I mean, it's a, what, it's a six-day campaign for eligibility.
Okay.
That's cool.
So I would imagine it's a lot of people who work in the service industry or have part-time jobs, you know, Gen Z.
And hopefully they'll spend all that money on some Mike's hard lemonade.
You know.
That's the plan.
That's the plan.
And, you know, I'm not a hater.
It's just whatever we had that day.
I think we had like the bold version.
It was just not good.
Like, Joe and I were sitting here.
I had it in so long.
And it was like, trying to sip on one during it.
Because we had like another feature like this during it.
So I brought some in.
I think I bought the extra bold or something.
And it was extra not good.
That'll do it.
That'll do it.
Yes.
This next article I love because I play the same.
game too much, but the New York Times subway ads unlock spelling bee in purpose-driven campaign.
Are you familiar with this little game?
Yes.
The New York Times Games Division is running a digital out-of-home, O-O-O-H campaign on subway trains
and platforms in New York City to promote its spelling bee title.
The New York Times games, some of which are only available through their subscription,
have become a key revenue and engagement source as mobile gaming explodes in popularity and profitability.
I mean, the first thing I thought is like wordle.
Like, you play some wordle?
Every single morning.
Nice.
I am not that.
I don't even have it on my phone.
I wake up and do Whartle and New York Times.
But it's funny like when we're on vacations or doing things like with the kids in downtime.
Wordle seems to be the family like a little of a family thing.
That's fine.
Like figuring it out and stuff.
The boys like it.
I love it so much.
It's pretty fun.
And the New York.
The mini crossword is fun too.
Yeah.
So I thought it was the New York Times.
One of the media companies bought Whartle.
It might be New York Times.
I don't know.
Like one of them.
I think New York Times bought word all.
Yeah.
It was one of them.
That's what it was.
Yeah.
So, you know, obviously they're seeing some benefits to that.
So is it a spelling bee game?
Like, like, literally.
There's a little B.
And you're given a certain amount of letters and you have to, like, make as many words as possible.
And you have to always use, like, the center letter.
It's hard.
Yeah.
Like, it is frustrating.
I don't know if I would be as good at that.
I am not as good as I think I should be, quite frankly.
Um, this is cool.
I mean, okay, Digital Out of Home.
I like, by the way.
So I'm a proponent of Digital Out of Home.
It's in a more affordable way to buy a high profile placements.
And it's a little bit of a thing on that.
You're going to start seeing and some Radcast Digital Out of Home.
So, um, I do think, you know, they run ads on these games, obviously.
And they're getting data from you.
downloading it so that then they can remark it to you. And that's how this works. So you're like,
why exactly they make money on these things? But you come up with these types of mechanisms.
It's no different than like on the internet. When someone has like a digital tool on their website
that you might use for something, like for instance, like if there's a movie database that you can
go to and you can, if you put in a movie, you get like four more that you would like. But you got to
enter your email to use the tool. It's an email.
capture tool because then they're going to use that data.
You can sell it or to remark it to you for other things or send you a newsletter you don't
really want.
Every time.
Every time.
But it could be a newsletter you want if they do the newsletter right.
That's also true.
Excellent point.
I have many newsletters I actually quite enjoy a bit.
Do you subscribe to NYT?
No.
I don't pay for it.
I do now because of the games and the articles.
So I'd see it worked on me.
See there.
I maxed out my free articles
and now I play the games as well.
So there you go.
All right. Last article of the day.
League of Legends enlists Little Nas X for championship anthem.
Riot Games, creator of online battle arena game,
League of Legends, has enlisted rapper, singer,
Little Nas X.
I don't even know if I'm saying that correctly.
As the games president,
he also produced an anthem in the championship's Star Wakan,
which has debuted,
ahead of this event, the partnership includes the game's first co-designed artist in-game collaboration
and demonstrates growing interest by brands to utilize musicians to create original songs to attract new audiences.
You know, Little Oz X pissed me off when he did the blood in the shoes thing.
But like he did Old Town Road with freaking Billy Ray Cyrus, which was fun.
My kids still loved that.
So this crossover makes a lot of sense, you know, other than you know, him being a vamp.
vampire or whatever he was.
But look,
kids are in these games, man.
Like, they're playing these games.
And so...
Games are where it's at.
Between this and New York Times, you know?
I don't know what it says about us.
We need distractions.
We need to play more.
Yeah.
We want to be placated at all times.
Intertained.
Yes, entertained.
And it's the only place to reach them.
Like, my kids aren't watching TV.
Right.
You know, unless we're watching a football.
with me or something.
They're watching YouTube shorts.
They're playing video games or they're playing sports.
And so this is where you got to go.
And these kind of crosso makes sense with, you know, music and video games and head lasso.
Like, I mean, it's media.
It's intertwines.
All connected.
All these things.
You know, during Michael Jordan.
I mean, Michael Jordan, like, original, like, was in games and like Nintendo.
There was like all this.
This stuff ain't new.
Like it's just in music.
Like Michael Jackson was on Pepsi.
It was with like, you know, it's just spokesperson and interchanging of media.
And so, and they have attention.
Barrowed.
They both have a different set of audiences.
Here's what's happening.
You've got little gnauz, his circle of influence, all the people that like his music and do all that.
You have a very popular game of League of Legends, all these people that are doing that.
But not those audiences aren't exactly the same.
You bring them together and they share the audiences and you bring them together so that they buy more of each product and more intermingling of those audience to the circles of influence of each.
The high tide raises all ships.
That's why they do these things.
And so it does.
And I think you'll see more and more of this as my.
my kids' time in games increases.
So it's going Fortnite.
Fortnite, the new season's pretty cool.
Fortnite is actually one of the first games that I've like, I don't even, I can play it.
But I'm not that, I haven't played enough.
I actually enjoy watching the kids play it.
We have it on this like 90 inch, I don't even know what, like gigantic screen.
And it's like intent.
It's like you, it's somewhat, it's enjoyable.
I catch myself.
like going in there to tell them to do something else.
And then like 15 minutes later, I've come out of the vortex.
I've been like watching them play.
Been sucked in.
Yeah.
So, uh, anyway.
But, uh, speaking to the kids.
Yeah, proud of the kids.
They're all playing baseball at the season.
Nash had a big night.
Yes.
I saw that on Instagram.
Yeah.
So sweet.
He's a good kid and played well.
Got the first game ball of the season.
First game of the season.
It's a big deal.
Yep.
He's got a game tonight.
With you.
Yeah.
So, uh, we're, uh, headed to baseballville.
There you go.
Yep.
It's all ball.
Clemson better beat Wake Forest this weekend.
That's all I've got to say.
Go Tigers.
It's been a little rocky start season.
I mean, we're 3-0, but it's just kind of a little shaky.
A little shaky.
A little shaky.
We'll see.
Any big weekend plans?
No.
No.
I start rehearsals for the show that I'm in, but that's it.
I'm a step-sister in Cinderella.
Yes, because I'm just funny.
It's great.
Yeah.
You start Sunday.
All right.
But that's it.
Libra.
All right.
Happy Libra season.
Happy fall.
Happy fall, y'all.
I do you did there.
Yes.
