Starting point is 00:00:01 I said, hallelujah, a top-wide, we're getting down, you're getting down. You're listening to the Radcast, a top 25 worldwide business podcast. If it's radical, we cover it. Here's your host, Ryan Alford. What's up, guys? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Friday, January 20th, 20, 23, joined, as always by Christinaeasi.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Where does the time go? I'm looking at this date. Like, what in the world? Zooming by. How are your resolutions going? Resolutions are good. Or they get into them? I don't know. Goals are looking good. You know, like they're in order. You're not completely blown up yet. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Give me a. I feel like I haven't started mine because I was sick the first week. And I'm like, have I eaten a vegetable at all in January? Yeah. But it's fine. I got the whole year. Yeah. And my goals are just tightening up a few things.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Yeah. Yeah. And so far, okay. I got some comedy shows, but so doing okay. There you go. Yeah. It's all good. I got a comedy show this weekend.
Starting point is 00:01:20 I do too, actually. I have one in York on Friday and then one right here at Social House. I know. On Saturday. In the Greenville area, come check us out. Social House. Socialhouse. Socialhouse.com.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Yeah. Got some great comics. Comics coming this weekend. Ten bucks if you're a non-member. None if you're a member. So, yeah, that'll be fun. Yeah, it's going to be a good night. I mean, who doesn't like to laugh, you know?
Starting point is 00:01:43 Truly, though. I mean, comedy's great. And I don't go to enough. Like, Nicole and I really enjoy it. And we would go two or three times a year to various things, but we always say when we go, we're going to do that and we're all stuff. And it's like, then you forget about it. You're not in the scene. It happens.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And now we're bringing it to you. I know. Start having it. Look, I know why I'm here. Bringing the laughs. You know. We have some fun news. Kanye has not been in the last couple episodes, but he's back in the news with his new wife, quotes
Starting point is 00:02:17 around wife. Beholding the dating. Well, so what I just Googled is she's an Australian and entrepreneur. No one knew who she was until they got married. And apparently she was working on. She's an architect as well. and was working on designing one of his company, like working with Yeezy,
Starting point is 00:02:35 so that's how they met. But less than two months after his divorce was finalized, they've now, like, said vows. Nothing is legal. I think she might have been architecting something. You know what I was like? erecting something, if you will. If you will.
Starting point is 00:02:53 So we'll see what happens. And she looks like a clone of Kim. Yes, she looks just like her. You show me the pictures, and I'm like, whoa, okay. Copy and paste. Nice. So we'll see.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I mean, she was easy on the eyes, but, you know, just a strangeness. Is she okay in the head? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Like, did she look like Kim first or did Kim look like? Well, she's significantly younger than Kim, so I would think that. New model, trade it in. Yep, upgrading.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Downgrade. That's what, you know, if Leo can do it, then we can do. Clearly, he thinks he can. Yeah. Yeah, he can do it as well. He do it as he wants it. As he pleases. I know.
Starting point is 00:03:36 And then we have, we're getting into our Super Bowl ads. Heineken has a Super Bowl ad for non-alcoholic beer that will star Dereld Paul Rudd, Ant-Man. So first things first, and we talked about this pre-episode, but the growth of mock tales is quite interesting to me. Yeah, beyond dry January. I just, you know, it's fascinating. fascinating what takes hold. Like, I understand, like, if you're under 21, maybe the sort of, you know, getting to try thing.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Right, right. You know, wanting to be trendy or whatever. Something beyond Sprite. Yeah. But at the end of the day, these are just, like, sweet drinks that don't have any kick to them. Yeah, it's such an interesting market because it's, you know, you've got soda and soft drinks,
Starting point is 00:04:28 and then you have like healthy sodas and soft drinks, and then you have energy drinks, and you have healthy energy drinks. And I don't think that's ever translated with alcohol. And now it's like, you don't have healthy alcohol. You just have this rebranded juice is what it feels like. I'm having a mocktail. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:44 So is it just trendy to be trendy? Like it's obviously a huge trend because it's like booming. Right. But I'm trying to want to like consumer insight behind it because for me, all of my drinks have a purpose. Right. But I wonder. Water is to hydrate
Starting point is 00:04:59 Energy for energy And then booze to Take it all away. Right. And now like this just popped in my head I guess like if I Which I am not And will not be for a very long time
Starting point is 00:05:12 If I were pregnant And I was going out With like my partner to a bar I don't want to just be sipping on Diet Coke Yeah So I get like Yeah Moments like that maybe
Starting point is 00:05:21 Yeah Or if you're a business woman And you're going out all the time I think I was the original mocktail maker. So here's the deal. Oh, ever. Ever. When I was 10 years old and I would go to the church basketball games. We had the story so much. They had, they had the first fountain things. They had the multiple, you know, the Coke, Sprite soda. Things when you go to the drinks now. Oh yeah. That's a mocktail right there. Like a little scientist. Yeah, like a little concoction. Pure wine, my personal favorite,
Starting point is 00:05:54 Cheer wine, Sprite, Diet Coke, and Mountain Dew. That's a combo. That's a mocktail in heaven. There you go. There you go. That was the original mocktail bartender. My friend mixes liquid IV with gin, which isn't a mocktail. But you know.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Now it gets into your bloodstream quicker. Yeah, something like that. I'm like, okay, you do you. I was better than an IV of gin. True. Which is what I sort of thought you were saying first. No, no, no, just a little hack. I was like, whoa, do tell more.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Is this a quicker way to pleasure? But this is the first time a non-alcoholic beer has been advertised during the Super Bowl. Interesting. It is a big deal. Have you seen Ant Man original? I have not, no, but I love some Paul Rudd. I do like Paul Rudd. And look, hey, a huge trend.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Heineken's tying themselves to it. It's on the Super Bowl. I get it. And it does show you if they're spending what's a problem. probably like $5 to $10 million in the 30-second spot. They believe that the timing is right to be putting a non-outhock beverage out. Right. Tell you how big the trend is.
Starting point is 00:07:06 So there's a lot of money in this, a lot of money in energy drinks and all kinds of stuff. I have a couple people that talking with about getting into the energy drink business, like actually making one. Yeah. So we'll see. But the mocktail, I'm telling you. Church basketball game, circa 1987. That was the original mocktail,
Starting point is 00:07:29 called the Alford Mocktail. We'll call up something better than that, but hey, next time you go to one of those Coke, like superhero, I call it the superhero fountain, whatever, when you get to choose,
Starting point is 00:07:43 whatever, you just blend those things. Yeah, the next time you're a Moes. Yeah, you become the mixologist. There you go. It's your local Moes or Firehouse subs. Perfect. Jerry Johns.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Yes, exactly. We got a great episode drop last week. Yeah. Best business advice on the planet. It really was. I listened to it and listening back. I don't do enough. I'm such a journey guy.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Journey's everything. I don't sit back sometimes and go, when we get to a destination, we accomplish certain things or like with a radcasts. You know, we've grown. And I don't know that I reflect on like the quality. of some of the volume of guests that we've had. And so what we've been doing is intermixing.
Starting point is 00:08:31 We're creating, I wouldn't call them the best of. We're kind of aggregating advice in certain specific areas that we've had multiple guests talk about. And so the first one that made the most sense was kind of like this entrepreneurial and business advice from literally most people would call the greatest entrepreneurs on the planet. WOOP founder Will Ahmed I'm actually wearing my whoop right now
Starting point is 00:08:56 Fitness Tracker And really more than that Sleep tracking, fitness tracking It does a ton of shit Like it tells me how bad I slept the night before Or how good I slept the night before Last time I seemed to sleep pretty good Seven and a half hours
Starting point is 00:09:10 Wow That's a lot for me Yeah He's like a six hour guy And so Will Ahmed came on Talk about growing whoop But these are like tactical like business advice that people can take. So we've pulled, we've extracted like if you're lazy,
Starting point is 00:09:27 like me sometimes, like you don't want to listen to 40 minutes to get some of the nuggets. We've pulled the nuggets out specific to business and opportunurism. We had RB Botto from stage 32. RB's awesome talking about how to grow a business, the niche that he's in specifically and how to really break through. We had Mark Randolph. You may have heard of Netflix. Maybe you've heard of Netflix. The founder, one of the co-founders of Netflix, really actionable advice. Alex Morton, who's huge in the network marketing space and just a great guy, really great. Brad Lee, host of Dropping Bombs and the CEO of Lightspeed.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Everybody knows Brad. Brad's awesome. Great advice. And we really just aggregated some of the best of. And I think you're really going to like this episode. But if you didn't already listen, you need to, it dropped on Tuesday. And just a lot, like a million dollar advice episode. There you go.
Starting point is 00:10:27 So give that a shout out. Or a free. Talk about action. And we're trying to make it action-oriented, what you can do, how you can grow, how you can learn. And next week, exploding your Instagram in 2023. We had a growth hacker, one of the biggest growth hackers in the U.S. Look, you call yourself the growth guide. And are they, people call them?
Starting point is 00:10:48 made the name. Julian Walter, really insightful on growing. And I would say more like white tactics, white. This isn't black, black hacktacks, like stuff that's going to get you banned. It's more stuff that you can do that's actionable to really grow and explode your Instagram and how to take advantage of the algorithm in 2023. Julian was really insightful. This is like a powerful.
Starting point is 00:11:16 We'd pack this in like 15 minutes. So we cut it down. We wanted to get you the best advice all in one episode. So like 15 tight minutes about exploding your Instagram in 2023. So who isn't trying to grow on social media? True. So check that out next Tuesday. Speaking of exploding, I think we know we want to get this company exploding because they do provide the best third party.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Lab tested CBD in the country. Vacay. Yeah. Still wearing my hat. I haven't taken this. hat off. I've been sleeping with it. That's what your little whoop tells you. Yeah. They're like, since I've been
Starting point is 00:11:54 sleeping with this. He keeps you for tossing it turn out because the fill. Exactly. I'm staying upright. But in all series, it's vacay. Official CBD sponsor of the Radcast Takeavacay.com.
Starting point is 00:12:08 All right, so here's a deal. I just said I got seven hours. I usually get about six, six and a half hours of sleep. Had seven a half last night and you know what I took? vacay sleep gummies premium CBD and CBN those are two of the active ingredients third party lab tested and Ryan offered tested and approved because I had it last night and I slept longer than I normally sleep I stayed sleep longer I looked at my thing and it literally
Starting point is 00:12:34 looking at the day that I stayed asleep longer in patterns so it's not coincidental folks it's great quality stuff we're trying it we're using it we're not just talking about Yeah. And comes from a really reputable company. Chris Hansen, the founder, good friend and a good partner of the show. Trusted, approved. Passion about what he does. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Cares about people. So takea vacay.com. Go check them out. CBD, the sleep stuff, I'm telling you. You need to get it. Sleep gummies. Gummies, different products, everything. Anxiety.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Yeah, all right there. And all lab tested in different strengths. So you know what you're. getting you don't have to question it you don't have to worry that this is some shady thing this is like drinking a couple glasses of wine and taking a break at night but feeling a little better about yourself because you're not using natural ingredients yep and no hangover no hangover exactly give them a shout out vacay the official CBD sponsor of the radcast got some social media holidays do i'd like to wish you a very happy cheese lover's day oh as from one cheese
Starting point is 00:13:44 liver to another, I assume. I had a amount of cheese. I can live on chart trutery boards that have like cheese, crackers, and some meats. Yeah. Cheese and meat. A couple olives in there. I always do good on the keto diet because,
Starting point is 00:13:58 you know, I can cheese my meat. There you go. Chease your way. Yes. Chease your weight thin. Yeah. So good. That's today.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And then today is also get to know your customers day every third Friday of January. Hashtag get to know your customer's day. Yes, yes. Good to know them. Yeah. And then to know your customers. Hey, if you don't know them, hey, this is the year.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Let me tell you this one. All right, a little side venture here. It's important. Okay. They say there's going to be recession. I think it's going to be mild. I do think we'll have some of it. So look, the best growth in a recession is keeping your existing customers.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Mm-hmm. You know, it's all about grow, grow, grow, grow, grow. The best business advice you can have is strategies and relationships with your current customers, because when you take care of your current customers, they refer more people. They buy what you buy more. They take care of you. You take care of them. It's symbiotic. And so you should be, you want a strategy for recession proof. It's called take care of your customers, acknowledge them, make them feel better, and it will all ladder up. It's one thing when we're in this growth mode where it's tons of money in the market. Everybody's buying stuff. It was an inflated
Starting point is 00:15:08 false market the last couple of years that's not reality. But what is reality is reality, but what is reality is is when you take care of your customers, they take care of you. And if that's, if you want a growth strategy in the recession, there it is. So Friday, get to today, get to know your customers. Focus on those relationships. Start today and every day. And tomorrow, Saturday is National Hugging Day. You know, I expect a big hug when I see you on Saturday night, Christina.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Perfect. Right before your show. I'm like, I'm going to, you know, go, what do they say, break the leg? There it is. Yes, break a leg. You're not doing good luck off. Go out there. Before you go on.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I'll announce to everybody. I'll be like, today's National Hugging Day. I'll pick off my set. Nick, you can even give me a hug on Saturday if I see you. Bless. But here we get. And then Sunday, we have the Chinese New Year. So if you're screwing up your resolutions, kick it off with Chinese New Year.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Yeah. Or Sunday. The beginning of this year didn't go so well, so I'm going to just start to do it. What is this year, this Chinese year? Yeah, last year was the Year of the Tiger. The Year 2020. What is it? What is it?
Starting point is 00:16:09 The rabbit. The rabbit. The rabbit. Hmm. Nice. A little faunt rabbit trail. Aha. Aha.
Starting point is 00:16:16 You're of Social Wild. Nice tie. I love to see it. I knew it. I knew it was going to happen. And then it's National Pie Day. I'm going to throw a thawkin pie right in your face. Please don't do that.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I don't know. Sorry, that would be Monday so I could do it. I'd make at work. Yes. Cake or pie? Cake. I'm a cake person. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:36 I do love some pie. Like, I don't discriminate against desserts. I'm not. Nicole makes a limit. pie that's super good with a graham cracker crust. There you go. That, I'll sign that for that all day. You know.
Starting point is 00:16:54 But other than that, give me some cake. Heard. Same thing. But January 23rd, National Pie Day. January 24th, National Compliment Day. Nice. Isn't that lovely? Pop that in flack.
Starting point is 00:17:10 I can't wait to compliment you on the 24th. Thank you. I look forward to it. We count down the days, man. Counting down the day. Only four jordes days away. And that's all we got for our social media holidays, this week, folks. On to some social media news, this is my favorite part of the show.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Google's clock app now lets you record your own alarm sound. They've updated the clock app for Android's to allow users to record a voice clip and set that as an alarm tone. I love that. Yeah. I don't know where this is going to go with it. As a Frank? Yes. So you can, yeah, if you could hack it if you could hack it if someone's a lot of it. Right. Right. Wake up. Whatever motivates you. If you can yell that in the morning motivates you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Have yourself yelling at yourself. Nick, I'm going to record like a special one just for you. Like, thank you. But it's not going to be on time. It's going to be an all for time. So it's like 30 minutes after it's supposed to be supposed to be somewhere. If you get snoo, your flagger. No snooze. I wonder how long. It'll take before Apple gets on board with this? Or is this option? I don't know. Speaking of Apple, so not to eat into Google's news, but I did see this.
Starting point is 00:18:22 It just came out today. Apple has launched a new HomePod with breakthrough sound and intelligence. Oh, I love an Apple HomePod. You know, and I guess here's what I'll say. They have not quite caught up with Alexa on, you know. And as far as the question and stuff, like, I don't know. Alex is like the last, Clayton, my oldest, we have like this routine when he goes to bed,
Starting point is 00:18:48 now he's 13. And so, you know, we've gone away from me singing songs to him. Dash, I still sing too every night. He's six. He will not go to bed unless I sing to him. So, but Clayton no longer wants to hear me sing. So, so Clayton, though, we ask Alexa,
Starting point is 00:19:08 because he has his little alarm clock as Alexa. and we ask Alexa tell us a couple jokes. Yeah. She tells us some jokes. She won't tell dirty jokes. So, you know, that's good. He's 13. We don't need to cloud as much.
Starting point is 00:19:22 No, not yet. But, and then she also sings songs. Very random. You need to ask Alexa to sing her, sing you a song. Sometimes she raps. She does, like, country yodels. Like, it's pretty good. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:19:35 She sings way better than I do. I don't know what to do that. So, anyway, I love these smart. functionalities and but Apple hasn't caught up even though it sounds like maybe they're trying to with this new sound but they need to get Siri as smart as Alexa because Alexa's kind of kicking Siri's ass a little bit just a little bit Siri does I'd like to see that the battle of hate eye you know that's kind of funny there's there there's a TikTok in there somewhere like Alexa versus Siri yes like the women of wrestling like wrestling like digital wrestling between Siri and Alexa that's really funny I'm going to workshop at You got some TikTok. There's some material. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Listen, I'm working on it. Yeah. This is the year that I've become an influencer. I don't know. TikTok launches a talent manager portal so managers can negotiate brand deals for clients. This is great. TikTok has updated its creator marketplace to now invite talent managers to oversee, execute, and analyze the brand opportunities and campaigns being presented to their clients.
Starting point is 00:20:35 It's just kind of streamlined. This is super smart. Yeah. Most influencers, the larger ones especially, brands like have these kind of things and let me just tell you I'm verified on TikTok and it's a fucking mess on there yeah and it's as far as keeping up with stuff like I had like personally like 12 or 13 companies had reached out to me for like these things it's so convoluted how it's kind of in the app and like in mix with messages feels sketchy I miss it
Starting point is 00:21:04 like I do not get back to I had this rant you know when we talked about Instagram versus TikTok. Like I get the popular. I get on TikTok and I get sucked into the vortex. But the messaging and growth and taking advantage, it is just wonkies. Well, like the notifications section is so confusing. It doesn't make any sense. No. And so this hopefully allows someone that's managing to kind of get the notifications and a clean aspect so you can take advantage of them and manage it. And, you know, some of people have agencies and partners and coaches and things that do these things for you. So it makes a lot of sense. Smart for them, as long as they make the messaging and the communication easy for the talent manager. Makes a lot of sense. Good stuff. And on to our marketing
Starting point is 00:21:49 news. L'Oreal, the cosmetic company, hands over the creative reins to influencers over 40. Instagram can often feel like a carefully curated carousel of stylish staged candids. Travel reels set to high-octane music and memes. Millennials are Gen Zers, which account for two-thirds of the apps. One to two billion users are usually the culprits. With influencer spend set to reach, wait for it, $32.5 billion. And the majority of these budgets still going to Instagram, brands are capitalizing on older influencers. Hey, it makes a lot of sound.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Newest version of spokesperson marketing. And look, L'Oreal is an older brand. A lot of older women use the products. Even men, I still actually use some Luriel face lotion. Yeah. That's pretty good. And so look, have the... Show your demographic using the product, and influencers are all ages now.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Yeah. Like, it's not a 21-year-old game before. Like, it's micro-influencers are huge, you know, and so it's super smart. And L'Oreal is owned by Landcombe. Yep. Fun fact. Yeah. So that's why their product tends to be a little bit better because it is owned by a luxury brand.
Starting point is 00:23:04 Very. The more you know. Interesting. So, look, folks, if you're in business. and you're selling products, especially D, I mean, B2C and B2B can work. It absolutely works with influencers, but B2C, it's a no-brainer. You need to leverage these accounts. That's where attention is.
Starting point is 00:23:20 People are listening to, my, I mean, we got to start this video program, by the way. We need to start it. Like instead of you got Mossed or like calling the football or you got influenced. Yeah. Like it's literally, I say it to my, I walk in and there's a pack is there. And it's like, okay, it's the opposite. It's like the most round. You got it.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Right, right. They're like Stanley on those like Stanley Cubs or something. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So it works and smart by L'Oreal. And we're going back to our canned cocktails. Yes. Booze free, mocktails.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Back at it. Moulson Coors debutses its first canned macktail for moderation-minded drinkers. Moulson Coors created Roxy, a line of alcohol-free cocktails in response to consumer demand for booze-free drinks. That's what we already said. Another brand. The drinks are made with experience. I was the original mixologist, I'm telling you about. So you're the experience for salvage behind this?
Starting point is 00:24:14 Fast. I like so fast with that thing too. I would, but I'd never remember. And you know what? Every recipe was unique because I couldn't remember which ones I did. Another issue. Didn't know how much second. So it was truly, you know, a custom mocktail.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Memory. But, okay. It's obvious. But you know what's funny when I listen to booze-free drinks isn't that just everything else? Right. Right. That's not booze.
Starting point is 00:24:41 It's not booze. Cran apple. Cran apple. It's free. That's a mocktail, right? Booge. Booze free. What defines these things?
Starting point is 00:24:49 Like, I'm just going to go mix, like, you know, some random shit at the gas station. Right. I'm going to walk in with my Diet Coke. Look, booze free. Station mocktails. There's a TikTok board. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Here we go. See, telling you. And you could also get to the drink machine at the mocktails. Mm-hmm. A little pump of gasoline in there. Yeah. Obviously huge. Cors is doing it talking about it.
Starting point is 00:25:11 So, hey, a lot of money in beverages. Yeah. I spend an insane amount of between my kids and me, the amount of money I spend at convenience stores throughout the week on mocktails. Yeah. If you will. Energy Tales. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Is a lot. Same. I'm a sparkling water girl. This next one is very fun. Willie Nelson joins Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart in Hawking. multi-purpose Bick lighters. Bick has added country music icon Willie Nelson to their talent lineup, which already includes
Starting point is 00:25:42 Snoop Dog and Martha Stewart. The purpose of this is to drive home the point that their lighters are good for more than just fireplaces and fondu pots. They're also good for weed. Go figure. Right. Okay. It's very funny. Just think about this, these names.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Willie Nelson, Snoop Dog, Martha Stewart. Just think about the polarity of those three people. Like just how opposite in theory they all are, but they're all united by their love for weed. Lighters. A think. Liders. Does Martha come out and said she smokes weed?
Starting point is 00:26:17 Or she just act like she's into it. I think it's just a really good market. Well, and I think the double is like, you know, Martha Stewart uses the lighters for candles and for home things and then Snoop Dogg uses it for weed and we'll come out with a line of edibles. I mean, there's an... A recipe book? Yeah. Oh, my God. I mean, how good would that sell?
Starting point is 00:26:36 Martha, I would... The Martha, freaking, you know. We got to go for the title and then picture. I know. Martha, Martha makes...
Starting point is 00:26:47 Yeah, we'll think of that one. But there's a... She needs to come out with that. Even if she doesn't do it. Right. She should start making recipes. Because she obviously is not afraid to hawk it for a dollar. So that would be a billion-dollar moneymaker for her.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Yeah, agreed. If she really like... Because she's obviously an amazing cook and recipe, like brilliant. So she actually really started like making stuff and experimenting. And then you're creating a series around her experimenting and creating the book. With Snoop Dog, get out. Yeah, with special guests that come on to taste test the stuff. Look, I'm creating ideas, or you're Martha.
