Starting point is 00:00:02 You're listening to the Radcast, a top 25 worldwide business podcast. If it's radical, we cover it. Here's your host, Ryan Alford. What's up, guys? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Radcast! I got to get excited here, Chris. It's our weekly marketing and business news.
Starting point is 00:00:27 It's October 13th, 2023. Chris is coming to us from the Vacay Lounge. and hot, not so hot today. We'll chilly Miami. We'll chill the NG Vegas as well. What's up, Chris? What's up, baby? How are you?
Starting point is 00:00:44 Oh, living the dream. I'm hours away from a little country concert action. My boys, 1,000 horses, Warren's eaters, cider's, however you want to call it. Warren's, Warren is Warren. Pretty little poison. We're going to go get it on at the House of Blues and Myrtle Beach. So, yeah, I'm pumped for that.
Starting point is 00:01:04 That would be a good time. Yep. Michael Hobby, lead singer, good friend. Been on the podcast. Going to go chill with those guys. A little backstage action, little tour bus action. All the behind-the-scenes stuff. Just living that rock star lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Hey, what happens when you know? Someone's got to do it. Someone's got to do it. But excited for that. They've got a new song out. You've got to go give them a shout if you ever heard of it. Just do a thousand horses look for them. Highway sound.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Their latest hit. Things are good though. Just here in G Vegas, rocket and rolling on your number one marketing and business podcasts on Apple. We appreciate everyone. We've been maintaining that the last two, three weeks. We don't seem to be going anywhere, Chris. It seems the downloads are going up and the position is staying right at number one. So we appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:01:54 So what happens when you get people what they need. The news told to you through a different lens. That's right. That's right. you learn. No bullshit, just news. Raw. Raw marketing and business news.
Starting point is 00:02:08 And look, we're going to start with value today, baby. Here's the value. Domino's is giving away free pizza. They've launched their emergency pizza program. In order to get it, you sign up for the rewards app. I think you make one purchase that's fairly nominal. And then you get a free medium two topping pizza anytime you need it. It's your emergency pizza.
Starting point is 00:02:32 So if you want a free pizza, go sign up with Domino's that comes to us from Today.com. Are you a Domino's fan? I was about to say, I think I might be feeling an emergency now. We're going to hit that button. I can go for a little two-topping Domino's. I am a Domino's guy. I have been really ever since college. They had a good deal for when I was in a student.
Starting point is 00:02:55 That cheesy bread, bro. Yeah. Just be tasty. Yeah. And I remember the campaign, we even talked about it. It's been a couple years. It came brought back, avoid the noid. That was like their TV campaign back in like the early, like 90s, late 80s, early 90s.
Starting point is 00:03:12 It was like this character that tried to blow up all their delivery drivers. I think I remember this now. Yes. It was a very fun campaign back in the day, especially if you can catch the old how bad. I don't know, some of the characters were in that day and age. The Little Caesars. Yeah, the little noid was strange at best. But I do remember the campaign.
Starting point is 00:03:36 But Domino's is always saying out there. They're changing. They're always throwing stuff at you. They do the delivery wherever you want. I feel like they've done pretty well with bringing the pizza delivery game to the modern times. They always say, I wouldn't say there's anything to do with them, like, blown away by, but they're always there in a positive light. They don't. Hungry Howies, I feel like, for a few.
Starting point is 00:04:00 years was like became like the low tier pizza right dominoes has always been my go-to papa john's dominoes yep there they are you never know when you're going to need a pizza so if you need a free meeting pizza we started off with the value and look let's let's make this practical application here okay they want people more people sign up for the app if you have the app you get alerts you order more pizza you order more stuff everybody wants you to be on their app and they can give away a free pizza. That pizza cost them two bucks probably, two or three bucks.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It's worth it with the purchase you have to make and getting someone on the app because look, the acquisition cost in today's world, they're going to spend more than that on ads anyway, a couple dollars cost to get you using the app and your lifetime value going up is the play here. And so if you've got an app,
Starting point is 00:04:58 sometimes you've got to give away shit, to get people to get on it because there's friction involved. You're going to download it. You're like, all right, am I really going to use this? But you know what? If I get a free pizza, I'm probably going to download it. And I'll tell you what, if I'm getting the free pizza, I'm adding on the mold lava cake dessert, cheesy sticks,
Starting point is 00:05:18 and probably a two liter of Pepsi. So you know what? They're going to make up for that two bucks. Easy. That media pizza just cost you $34. Literally. I was going to say $35. Come on, guys.
Starting point is 00:05:31 It's free. Yes, it's free. The free pizza with the other shit we know you're going to buy. And you're going to have our app, and they're going to send you constant notifications at the kickoff of every game. Every possible time where you maybe think about ordering a pizza, you're going to get that notifications. Allow every Friday. Chris, save $5 if you order pizza right now. Sold.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Yep. Give me that. You're done. You're in. Done for it. They've got you hooked. climb and sinker. Yep.
Starting point is 00:06:02 We started with the plus. Now we'll start with the negative. It's not negative. This is probably should have happened a long time ago. But the potential that's, if you like Skittles, you might be a little scared because they're banning the add add skittles and many other things.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Now, they got a few years to respond. I think it's 2027. So relax. You can still go get your skittles today. Taste to Rainbow. Yeah, taste the rainbow.
Starting point is 00:06:29 You don't want to stock up. up if you like that flavor though because once it's gone if you like that artificial rainbow flavor you get that food coloring yes it may be causing bigger issues and in your health but it may be carcinogenic yeah but if you love the flavor load up in those red skittles taste the rainbow and the chemicals and the cancer they're california gavin usum signed it into law and banning food products containing four specific additives. They affect numerous products, and California is the first state to enact the ban. So that's probably going to keep coming in and probably already should have already
Starting point is 00:07:11 because that shit's bad for you. But I do like Skittles. So I will much on some Skittles. I love Skittles, but I did have to take a step back from them after learning about these said ingredients, honestly. So you're already on the off the band. On the bandwagon or off the bandwagon, depending on the phone. I'm off.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Do you doing me wrong? I looked at a bag of them last night in the corner store, and there still is a second, a debate, but then I choose me as I buy a Coca-Cola. Yeah, exactly. Wash it down with a Coke. I'll pick my battles. Yeah. And I wonder, I'm in mind that I bet you they sold more Skittles yesterday or the day,
Starting point is 00:07:55 whenever this article came out. 100%. Like, it's probably good for business in the show. short term and maybe bad long term but I guarantee just the awareness is like it look people get triggered by awareness top line awareness is the way marketing works everybody says advertising doesn't work on them that's because they don't know they don't know the tricks we deploy and in this case it top line awareness went up for the brand whether it was good bad or different and I wouldn't be surprised that they sold more this week than they have because it just you're more aware so you're in line at the grocery
Starting point is 00:08:30 and you look at all the candy that's there and you ignore them. But that Skittles awareness is top of mind and you look at it, you grab it, especially if you're Skittles fan anyway. You're going to, yeah, I have one more back. I haven't grown a second head yet. So what's one more bag going to do for me?
Starting point is 00:08:46 Yeah, 100%. As Halloween Trick-or-Treaters bags are about to be filled with Skittles by the end of the month. Exactly. It might impact, it could impact that negative. Like I could see short-term, like the awareness jumping up, people go, I'm going to have a bag right now.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And then, but like the moms buying the Halloween. No. Candy, no. Johnny. No shells for you. None for you. Stick to the other candy. Yep.
Starting point is 00:09:15 In other news, and I'll admit we're recording, we do record this show a little bit for it air. Someone may have won by the time, but pre-recording. 1.8 billion drawing for the Powerball Jack. We're almost at two bills. Two billion. And so I've said this on the podcast a lot. So you've probably, if you're a regular listener and we love you for that, you've probably
Starting point is 00:09:41 heard me say this before. It's just, it's so funny to me how people start rushing out. And I'm like, because $300 million wasn't enough for you. They don't get motivated, but it was a $300 million jackpot. I'm not getting that. But what it's one point in a billion. It's only 300 mil. Save the dollar.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Save the money. Yeah. I'm not getting it. playing. It's not worth it. But if it gets a 1.8 bill, everybody's in. So, I'm going to stop and get a ticket on the way home.
Starting point is 00:10:10 I may need to do that. I think I'm going to do the same. Actually, I don't know. I think I've played the power ball one time accidentally. Same. I'm not a, I don't ever play great games. I give, the only thing I buy
Starting point is 00:10:24 I bought scratch cards and given to people in their birthday card. Which I think is cool. I've done that for friends, like $100. Yeah. Scratch cards. Because look, it probably went a few bucks. Maybe not, but it's the game.
Starting point is 00:10:42 And then what if they went like 10 grand? You never know. And that'd be like, give me half that. Yep. Yep. What are the chances of you sharing that with me since I wanted for you? Yeah. I said, bro, that would never would have happened if it wasn't for me.
Starting point is 00:10:57 So, take it, I should get a half. Yeah. I do tell with my kids sometimes. We're driving, like, on a road trip, and it starts getting, like, a little long in the tooth. Everybody's got looking at each other going, it's been a long trip. I will pull the old's crash cards out.
Starting point is 00:11:10 That buys us, like 30, 40 minutes. If I buy, like, 20 of them. My dad used to do that trick, for sure. Everybody's starting to beat on one another, so we'll bring them out. Yeah. So you're going to see a lot of this in the news you haven't. You're going to be over $2 billion if someone doesn't win
Starting point is 00:11:27 or didn't win by the time. this airs. In other news, Popeyes has surpassed KFC as the second largest chicken chain in the U.S. Wow. Do you remember that big buzz on the Popeye's
Starting point is 00:11:44 chicken sandwich? Oh, yeah, dude. Like, they had Migos promoting it. I was in Houston at the time, and it was like the talk of the town. Yes. And they became the chicken sandwich wars with everyone? I remember going and buying
Starting point is 00:11:59 buying one of the Popeye's regular chicken, one of the spicy Popeye's chicken. Yep. You know, it was like a field trip. It was, surprisingly good. They're good. It was, like, I thought it was going to be an all talk, but then I had one. I'm like, it's pretty damn good. It's good, for sure.
Starting point is 00:12:15 And let's be honest. If you can't call yourself Kentucky fried chicken, you're going to go to third place. You KFC acronym, this is Kentucky Fried Chicken. I bet you'd still be in second. Lean in. KFC. It's easy acronym, but I like Kentucky Fried Chicken, baby. Come on.
Starting point is 00:12:35 The colonel. Yeah, they, put it this way, Popeye's marketing team has in a much better job the last few years than KFC. Ever since they lost the colonel, they've lost their way. They try to do the whole, they've tried to have like with 17 different kernels.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Then they did a spoof on the whole thing, I think, with different ones. But, it's not good the marketing for KFC not my favorite I do I do think I love what Popeyes did for the whole chicken
Starting point is 00:13:08 sandwich category I'm a chicken sandwich guy it elevated everybody's game chickfilet was always like right there but then everybody else just came along so now when my kids want to eat fast food and I don't really want to eat fast food someone's always got a good chicken sandwich now so I appreciate them and they deserve
Starting point is 00:13:25 number two just for that one They do, Chick-fil-A is number one, by the way. And their success has been attributed to menu efficiency and customer service. No shit. Yeah. It's my pleasure to tell you that data. Literally, dude, Chick-fil-A applause. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:47 They've, they've done it and they've been consistent with it for a long time. Yeah. Somehow they made it also seem and fool all the moms that it's healthy. I saw a video about that yesterday. Some guys filming the drive-up line. This is trash. However, if I got to go fast food, I'm going Chick-Flay all day. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I got a lot of old clients and friends that actually work for Chick-Fleigh now. Joe Saracino VP of marketing there. Shout off, Joe. I know you're listening. He does a good job for them and all their employees. And it's my pleasure because it's always theirs. This is cool. Cameron, I maybe pulled this one out.
Starting point is 00:14:31 I don't know. Cameron, rain, who knows. Hypebeast.com. Porsche hits the waves with the latest collaborations. Porsche has partnered with, I'm not going to, a really fancy boat company for the electric 850 Phantom Air Sportsboat. Featuring drive technology from the upcoming all-electric Porsche, McCann, and with Duotone for a limited edition. and kiteboarding kit inspired by the Pink Pig Porsche. Both collaborations highlight
Starting point is 00:15:01 Porsche's expansion into nautical and kiteboarding realms. You've been saying this. Cardboarding's curveball. Kiteboarding was not totally expected. The nautical was, we were just talking about what the Lambo, the Lamborghini boat.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Yeah. The thing looks pretty sick, by the way. It just looks mean. It would just go $5,000. The LAMBO? Yeah, the thing is it going to go 5,000 miles. per hour and jump over a continent.
Starting point is 00:15:27 That's why I'm wondering what this bad boy looks like. Yeah, I didn't see the pictures, but I'm sure they're out there. I'm sure. It's electric 850 Phantom Air Sports Boat. That's a lot of stuff there. Electric. I'm looking at a picture, I think right now it looks way less cold than the Lamborghini boat. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Not surprising. It's good looking boat, but completely different. And also electric. I don't know how I feel about that. I will say this from a brand play. I know there's a lot of, and I haven't owned multiple boats. I guess I'm a boat enthusiast,
Starting point is 00:16:05 but I'm not really a boat brand enthusiast. I think the boat market will be ripe as hell for a takeover from brands with these kind of cash a names. Yeah, Lambo could create this, what, $4 billion boat, whatever the hell it was, very expensive. But if they actually brought to market a mass market boat with one of the, where it was Porsche, Lamborghini, BMW, and all these people are like, I think they could crush it if they could put the numbers together.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Yeah, I agree. The brand cachet, I think, would translate over. Maybe some of the, I think it would bring a whole new market to boating even. I agree with you, 100%. because I just don't think if you aren't a boater, you don't know these names. Like I got into boating the last five or six years. Now I know some names, so I hear them.
Starting point is 00:16:59 And yeah, they have cachet and there's luxury. And then there's performance and all that stuff. But to bring over, that's a natural kind of transition for one of these brands. So I get why they're doing it as a collab. I think you could get some people that are maybe typically more like car guys. If I was a 9-11 guy and I knew Porsche was starting to make a boat, I'll probably be like, oh, I'm interested, let me read about this.
Starting point is 00:17:26 And I definitely think you could sway some more. Because you're right, it's a whole different category. Like the boating world, if they can merge those a little easier for people. Yeah, and just the brand carryover, I think. And I think the biggest thing is just the cost of sitting up manufacturing. And that's why it makes sense that they collab. But if I was just like a somewhat, I made really nice boats, my name wasn't quite out there yet,
Starting point is 00:17:54 then tag team with, and on a more medium to mass market boat. Yeah. Tell me you wouldn't. I would be all over a Rolls-Royce pontoon. Dude. I'm talking about comfort in class. Yeah, dude, I'd be all over that.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I'd be like, okay. Yeah. And the old, the phantom tune, the ghost tune. I love that. See? Yeah. Call me, Rolls Royce. We can get on this.
Starting point is 00:18:25 I know some people at some pontoon companies. Right. There you have it. I think it makes sense from a collaboration standpoint. And I think it could make bigger sense. Maybe you'll see more of these things as we go along. In other news, Kevin James joins in on viral King of Queens meme. An old promo picture for the hit show, King of Queens.
Starting point is 00:18:48 We start Kevin James smirking to the camera with his hands. in his pockets has completely taken over their net with memes. And now the comedian has joined in on the fun. This came to us from today.com. You've watched, you know, Kevin James is, obviously. I know he is. I've never watched the show. I can't say, I know the show.
Starting point is 00:19:09 I think I've watched one episode ever. It was very popular CBS show. But, and I am familiar with the meme. But I was not a huge. King of Queens fan. But supposedly, according to this news article, we don't talk about anything
Starting point is 00:19:27 that's not real or factual, unless the source made it up. This is major news. And bigger news, I will say this. I'm going to stay out of the whole war talk, but you can't avoid it right now with what's happening.
Starting point is 00:19:46 And if you're listening, going, how are you not bringing this up? We're business and marketing news and yes, it's impactful. Yes, a lot of people are being impacted at a major serious level. So I'm mentioning it by saying we're aware of it, but I'm not informed enough nor have the breaking news on every life and political and worldwide event that's going on.
Starting point is 00:20:15 So there you have it. I've acknowledged it. Instagram threads. perhaps a trending topics feature in their battle with X that I'm just not sure who cares about it. But Instagram Threads app is preparing to launch a trending topics feature in an effort to better compete with its rival X, formerly Twitter. Every article now still always says formally Twitter.
Starting point is 00:20:43 I don't know when that's going to go away. It's going to say that for four years from now. It's going to say it's rival X. Yes. A.K. Forever. Twitter. but is anyone still using threads?
Starting point is 00:20:58 Dude, I log on maybe once a month. Like, I feel like they're running ads. They're literally running ads on Instagram. To get you to use on it. There's threads to click, to get you to click to go over threads, which tells me you're not doing very well. I'd love to see. I saw where like the use amount like dropped off the cliff.
Starting point is 00:21:20 after that first 30, 40 days or whatever it was. But I have a feeling it's dropped even further. Yeah, definitely. But since we do want to report on all the news and all the platforms, they do have a trending topics portion about to get. It's terrible for discovery right now. That's my problem with it. I can go in there and I see the people that follow.
Starting point is 00:21:42 I see their threads. It's usually regurgitated from what's on Instagram. I think Storm's having his lunch there waiting to see if he had been picked up his goofy ass always has to eat breakfast right in the middle of the fucking recording. We love it.
Starting point is 00:22:01 We're going to just get him on camera next time. I must have to set up his food bowl right here. That's probably know what it is. For anyone listening, Storm is Chris's dog in Miami and he likes to eat only when we're recording. We're a show of the people. So we're not even going to edit this out.
Starting point is 00:22:19 We want you to know that this is real and Storm's got to eat. Hey, we're all got to eat. Exactly. Maybe Storm might just become the star of the Radcast. Lucky I can hear he's at the bottom of that bull. It's pretty good. That's good. I think it's a good time to bring up our latest sponsor.
Starting point is 00:22:38 If you can see my table here, depending on where you are, I'll bring some of their products in. Caldera Labs. And it's singular. I like to add the S. I don't know why it makes me feel. feel better. I want to get, because it's so good, I want to make it plural. I call there a lab is what is the name of it. But I want to, it's, it's so impressive. I want to call it labs. You got labs everywhere. But they are the official skin care of the Radcast and Ryan offered. And they have a new product.
Starting point is 00:23:06 I've been had the stubble beard here for a number, or a few years. I don't think I've actually fully shaved and I can't remember when. And luckily, Carter Lab just came out with their latest product. The beard. Everything's the with Caldera because it's the best. They always go, the you, the Ohio State because they want to put a serum that you, it makes the beard nice and soft, healthy, just like all their other stuff. Premium men's skin care delivered straight to you. If you go to caldera lab.com, use rad. Ryan, you like that, don't you, Chris? Rad. You've been glowing ever since. Yeah, do get 20% off. Tell them the Radcast sent you. Tell him Ryan sent you.
Starting point is 00:23:49 And it's the reason this face is glowing. He's 46 looking like 30. Radical. I don't know. Forty one. Radical. I'm at least five years younger. Yes. So it's radically radical glow. And this beard never felt better.
Starting point is 00:24:05 And comes you straight from Caldera Lab. The official skin care partner. Yeah. We'll get you some of that. You're getting a little stubble down there. Yeah. I need to make sure it's not. and soft and conditioned. Yeah, I'll send you that serum. It's the serum of the gods for the beard. Straight from Caldera Lab.
Starting point is 00:24:25 And our good partners, we appreciate them. Go to Cordaralab.com, Rad Ryan, 20% off. Tell them we sent you. You got any big weekend plans, Chris? I do not. I plan on... Covering a little bit. You've been a little under the weather.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Yeah, I just hopefully get some vitamin D and some exercise. and just nurse myself back to health. Yep. You know how one way you do that is you celebrate the 15th was his global hand washing day. I think that would be a good way to start. Stop the germs.
Starting point is 00:25:03 Stop the spread, y'all. It's so interesting to have a day of it when it's not you're supposed to wash your hands all day every day. Right. Right. But we've got a global hand washing day. We've got to remember. Reminds us to.
Starting point is 00:25:15 And luckily, on Monday, World Food. day the 16th i'm gonna eat the hell out of some food on monday that's for sure i'm gonna it just not feel guilty about it yeah maybe get that domino's two topping special wash it down with a chicken sandwich and we'll be good out the 16th tuesday boss's day is your staff playing on celebrating you i don't know expecting a chicken sandwich and a free pizza i think that's a fair deal it's free. I get anything to try. Some of your key social holidays.
