Starting point is 00:00:00 Today might be the most days ever in one day. Really? Yeah. Nine holidays in one. There's a belief out there that the Metaverse is actually going to play heavily into the hybrid work environment that we're working into. The only thing I don't get is just like if you're kind of playing the game and moving your person around, it's like, what are you getting any work done? There was a lot of memes and such that kind of came with it. Like the grid of how crypto's been doing is the arches of McDonald's.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Oh, that's funny. That's funny. Pretty clever. But I'm pulling it out more to how all these brands on Twitter, especially, whether it's metaverse-related or not, are really acting more like people than brands. And I think it's been beneficial for them. You're listening to the Radcast. If it's radical, we cover it.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Here's your host, Ryan Alford. Hey, guys. What's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the latest edition of. the rad cast. It's Friday, January 28th, 2022. Welcome to our weekly marketing and advertising news. I'm joined as always by my lifelong friend. Lifelong? I think it has been. Sure. It's 13's lifelong. It feels like it. Joe Hammerit. What's up? That's me. Man, there's a lot up. What's up with you? Hey, about 658 today, I think. 258? Yeah. Not 257. No, I think it was, I weighed this morning. You had an extra cereal bar this
Starting point is 00:01:33 Hey, man. Yeah, getting it tight and locked in for the beach in two, three weeks, less than three weeks. Are you tanning? Not yet. I'm going to before we go. Do you do tanning bed or do you natural? No, I'll get, I'll get into tanning bed like just because we go to Mexico. Get a base.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Get like two days of a base just so I don't fry the first day. Yeah. And I'm proud to go do it, you know. You know, I'm not in there every day. No, no. You know. I just have this natural glow. You get a little darkness to you
Starting point is 00:02:05 You know a little pre-tan Yeah I did that one time before Went on a cruise And burned the shit out of myself And At least you got it Before you would
Starting point is 00:02:15 I was bright red The first couple days of cruise So that was fun And yeah And then it went right back to white like this So I was like that's perfect You are a white guy I am
Starting point is 00:02:26 I don't tan Yeah It doesn't happen I have that olive skin I don't My parents both kind of had a little bit of it. A little Mediterranean in the blood or something.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Yeah, I guess, you know. Something. Steve, he's a tall guy. Yes. So I don't know what it comes from. But I'm excited about our trip, less than three weeks away. Who's counting? Certainly not me.
Starting point is 00:02:45 What's going to happen with the Radcast while you're going on? I actually leave on a Wednesday and come back on a Sunday. So we might record the news early on a Tuesday. Okay. You can do it. Or you and Nick can record it. Well, I don't know about that. Or maybe we'll throw, we'll find a special guest to come in with you.
Starting point is 00:03:09 We'll figure it out. Yeah, we'll figure it out about it. We got Joey and Sean on deck. Yeah, exactly. Y'all could do it. We could do it. Yeah, we've got talent around here, folks. Talent around.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Talent coming out of our ears. Round. It's been a good week. How's your week been? It's been good. My son and I went to see the Hawks play Charlotte NBA. Oh, nice. Yeah, it was really, one of his Christmas presents.
Starting point is 00:03:30 We do experience as much as you. do. Yep. We actually on on Saturday went to see something called big time wrestling. I don't know if you're familiar. Nice. Such a little BTW. Former stars, exactly. And that's their like low
Starting point is 00:03:44 come on guys. Jerry the King Lawler was there. Of course he was. They rock and roll Express was there. The original? Yeah. Oh my God. Yeah. How those guys are like 70 years old. They're so old. Were they wrestling? Yeah. Did they do drop kicks? Yeah. Oh, they did all kinds of shit. Dude, it's the beginning of
Starting point is 00:04:02 a farewell tour. They announced there's a, what are they called? F-T-R or something. They're like younger guys. Yeah. So they kind of carried them a little bit. They helped out quite a bit. All right. They pushed the wheelchair down there. Right, right. Picking them up and putting their teeth back in their mouth. Scottie Too-Hoddy was there. I don't know if you remember him. Okay, sort of my teen years, I think. Scott Steiner. Oh, wow. Is he still big? Big pop-a-pop. He's really big. He was also out of breath pretty bad. He probably went out in the night before. Those guys, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:04:35 He probably went out right before the match. Also, on a not great note, Lex Luger was there. Oh, dude. He's not doing well. He's in a wheelchair. Yeah. He looked like he weighed about 140 pounds. I think he has cancer.
Starting point is 00:04:49 He has something. He's got something. He's got something. Yeah. I think he was ill, but I think it made me he was self-inflicted a little bit. Okay. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:58 All right. Those guys with there. Yeah. A lot of stuff. steroids and a lot of who knows what yeah who knows but yeah so that was big time wrestling big it sounds like a big time well and to make it even more big time it was in spark berg memorial lot so sparkle city no big deal there yeah literally no big deal literally not even big deal at all terrible it was it's it's it's really fun to watch and it's just it's it's almost
Starting point is 00:05:25 funnier than you know what i mean yeah you're just kind of like holy shit i can't believe this guy's still doing this it's crazy i don't think they get paid for that. Oh, man, I don't know. I know that they sign stuff and all that and they make money off of that. Okay. So I don't know if it all adds up to a few grand or something. Probably.
Starting point is 00:05:42 We've seen Kevin Nash and Scott Hall one time there. Yeah. They maybe had a couple cocktails before. Yeah. It's okay. Hi, Kevin. Hi, Scott. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:51 You know you did. Yeah. I might get them on the show. It'd beat the shit out of me. Awesome. Kevin Nash is coming to the SC Comic Con. You actually might be able to get them on the show. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Kane we saw one time Okay Pretty cool There we go Yeah so And we need to just have a wrestling segment of the Radcast I think
Starting point is 00:06:10 I kind of like it You know We could do it Yeah You know the wrestling thing Yeah the wrestling You and I could wrestle Right here on the table
Starting point is 00:06:19 Well I don't think Weight Class I'll slam you through it That would be funny It seems pretty solid That seems pretty solid We need a fake chair
Starting point is 00:06:27 A fake table It was a metal chair You know, somehow they smash each other over the head. They hurt, yeah. It was a good week for the radcast. Jenna Andrews episode launched on Tuesday. She's the vocal producer for a lot of BTS's hits as well as songwriting on dynamite and butter and others. She had a jazzy hat on, she did have a jazzy hat on.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Very jazzy. Yes, she was jazzy all around. Yeah. Really talented, really looped in. She's getting involved in like some of the hottest projects and music, right? now and she was really cool so we enjoyed having jenna if you're out there jenna we appreciate you tuesday we have don yager who is a sport for he's a sports illustrated former writer he's written some of the biggest and best articles you've probably read in sports illustrated in the last 20 years
Starting point is 00:07:16 i know that name yeah he's written a ton about michael jordan she's got a book um and don came on he's got like the perfect voice for podcasts like he's got his own podcast i actually went on his podcast a few months ago. And just really nice guy, so down to earth and has a lot of great stories because he's written about some of the greatest athletes in the world and really enjoyed Donald's show. So look out for that next week. Talks about his journey and, you know, the art of writing and all of those things.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Sounds good. I'm going to look him up right after this because I think I've read a couple of his articles. You'll recognize the articles when you see. them and he's you know some of the most i mean michael jordan being you know who he is is the most uh recognized athlete in the world probably even still but uh some of the others uh you would know and uh but really enjoy talking to don't and um with that i don't really want to hold back you know everyone from getting to their favorite segment right no let's get right into it i mean it's time for another absurd holidays. There's no shortage of dumb things to celebrate.
Starting point is 00:08:29 A redcast, social media holiday segments. Yeah. I just thump my show notes. Anything goes after that. It's wild. It's a jam-packed social holiday segment. It was a long list. It was a long list.
Starting point is 00:08:49 And today might be the most days ever in one day. Really? Yeah. Okay. One, two, three, four, five, six, nine holidays and one today. Wow. There should be a limit. It's going to be unstoppable the amount of fun we're going to have. I'm going to be really busy today.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Trying to observe. I'm trying to observe all of them. You know, the first one, you know, isn't serious. Let me take this back. Is serious. And I'm, but it's like I laugh being in the industry. that I'm in of how much if people really take it as serious as they should. It's data privacy day.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Okay. You know, it's a serious thing. It is. It really is serious. It's important. It's very important. But I don't know that people take it as serious as they need to. They probably don't.
Starting point is 00:09:45 I mean, you kind of exchange convenience for your privacy a bit. Yeah, especially your data privacy. It's like, oh, yeah, well, I sign up for that. Okay, I will because it's easy. Yeah. Yeah, I, I've, as I've gotten a little bit older, have been taking it a lot more seriously, you know, secure apps and, you know, VPNs and et cetera. You did have that sex tape leak. I did, and that was unfortunate.
Starting point is 00:10:12 It wasn't actually me in it, which was the really embarrassing thing. Your name was on it. I don't know why my name was on it. Yeah, it was really weird. I think it's because you filmed it. Well, I did, I did film it, but, I mean, I produced, directed, and I mean, I wrote the, script. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:28 But I told him specifically to take my phone. It may have not have been your stunt double, but you know. Sure. It was just a deep fake, but it was a really bad one. It was just my face like really big on somebody. Yeah. Something was really big. There we go.
Starting point is 00:10:41 It's also global community engagement day. I don't know what that means. You know, this is a lot of words. And it's like it could be in a lot of things. Like it could be online community engagement, like Facebook groups. Sure. Or it could be local, like in your neighborhood. Community Engagement Day, like you're getting involved.
Starting point is 00:11:02 So that's, you know what, tomorrow being Saturday, as you know. Yeah. We're going to an Eastside High School fundraiser. My wife and I. Yep. Oh, wow. Yeah. Good for you.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Yeah, it's going to be really exciting. I'm going to give what I gave last year. Me too. Yeah. I think we're actually getting it for free. You might throw some money in the, I don't know, was like the cake the cake the cake toss or i don't know like cake talk sure yeah bake a cake what is it when you're like there's a bunch of cakes and you i don't know a bit on them i think cake walk i think
Starting point is 00:11:34 yeah what i say cake throw cake toss yeah that'd be so much better i'm interested in that i'd like to try that the cake toss the good old cake toss so you so you're already doing a global engagement day i'm we got a lot to get to so i'm gonna have like speed round let's just go international lego day okay i don't like lego's that much my kids love them yeah yeah Yep. But it's international Lego today, today. So love your Legos. I feel like we had this conversation because I feel like Lincoln Logs came up. Lincoln Logs. I think they did. It's your day, this next one.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Sure. National Bigwig Day. Well, I do have a big wig. As you know. That's good. You're a bit of a big wig, though. No. I mean, come on, the Radcast, bro. I'm a wig big.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Yeah. Whig big. Yeah. So it's big wig day. So, hey, pat yourself on the back if you think you're a big wig. Yeah. And if you think you're a big wig, you're probably not. To be honest, too.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Yes, exactly. National blueberry pancake day. All right. Moving on. Moving on. I like my plane cakes plain, but with some maple syrup. Sure. I honestly, I like a little bit of peanut butter on pancakes.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Read my lips. No. Okay. Well. I love peanut butter. I had a peanut butter, protein smoothie for breakfast. You're always talking about it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Always. I slather that stuff on anything. Everything. But not my pancakes. Not pancakes. No, don't mess with my pancakes. I won't.
Starting point is 00:13:15 It's also National Daisy Day. Another day for you. Okay. So just the flour? Bigwig Daisy. I guess. I think Daisy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Hmm. Hmm. I need a. Hmm. Hmm. There you go. Oh, hallelujah. Scream.
Starting point is 00:13:33 How about National Have fun at work day? Today. We're already doing it. I mean, right? We're having fun at work. Exactly. And finally.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Sure. This is all you. National Kazoo Day. I love a kazoo. I love a kazoo. I was actually first chair, uh, in high school.
Starting point is 00:13:52 I don't know if you remember that in the orchestra. Yeah, the band. First chair. How about you put it in the, You put in the orchestra. I was just going to say the band. You're like, it's part of the orchestra section. Oh, that specific.
Starting point is 00:14:08 It's not a string instrument, but they still need that balance of the kazoo. They need the balance. Not the horse section. Yeah, no. Oh, I don't know. I thought, though. It's the woodwind section of kazoo.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Oh. So. You do play that at a kazoo so well. I am. What is that thing? What is it? Trompone. I don't know what we're doing.
Starting point is 00:14:37 When you play a string instrument, you have the thing. The bow. Use that bow on the kazoo. It makes a real vibrato sound. You know what I mean? It's excellent. Oh. Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Then your host is, uh... This went to shit real quick. Locked up here. All right. Tomorrow, January 29th, is National Cornchip Day. I think I'm crying over here. Oh, my God. What, National Corn Chip Day?
Starting point is 00:15:12 Oh, Joel's going to have to edit out maybe some of the laughing. The Radcast, if you want to watch two grown men really laugh at their own jokes and just enjoy it. Yes, exactly. Come on down. Cazoo Day. I just was envisioning a kazoo and an orchestra. A tuxedo. The New York Symphony or whatever.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Yeah, Philharmonic. So funny. So I'm going to have some corn chips tomorrow. I will too then. Yeah. And it's also a national puzzle day tomorrow. Hmm. My,
Starting point is 00:15:42 I think, I thought it's a duplicate because I feel like I talked about this. My wife loves putting puzzles together. Does she really? And I liked it growing up, but I don't know. I feel like I get a little bored now. It's probably like ADD.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Frustrated. Yeah, like I'll start doing. putting pieces together and like 10 minutes later, I'm like, all right, that was fun. I feel about puzzles pretty much the same way. I feel about Legos. I do it through a while. I'm like, that is fucking shit, man. Well, you are, I mean, Legos are more of a kid thing.
Starting point is 00:16:09 I guess. Sure. Well, yeah. Some adults. Yeah. I don't know about that. Yeah. How about national seed swap day is tomorrow as well?
Starting point is 00:16:21 What? Seed swap. What does that mean? Seed. Seed? Not like we would change. We're swapping seeds like what you grow in the ground. That sounds a little bit. Yeah, it's like a marijuana day or something.
Starting point is 00:16:32 Yeah, I got your strain. Yeah, whatever it is. Afghan Kush. Yeah. Got a little Shiva. Sheva skunk. Sure. Or Sheba skunk.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I don't know. I don't know. My weed flavors very well. Not anymore. Not anymore. Not that ever did. Not that ever. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Cross that out. January 30th is National Cressant Day. All right. I like a croissant. I mean. I love some croissants You love them More than I do
Starting point is 00:16:59 Yeah way more than you do You always They're bragging about it Yeah Sunday January 3rd National croissant day I'm eating like very No bread right now
Starting point is 00:17:08 Yeah This is making me want to eat some bread Well I had the pancake thing too Yeah pancakes and croissots here Dangerous weekend for you I know I'm gonna have to really not cheat Yeah buckle down
Starting point is 00:17:18 January 31st Monday Is National Backward Day What? How do you do that? I'm not sure. Backward day?
Starting point is 00:17:34 Like, I don't know. Everything's backwards? Like you walk backwards? Walk backward? National backward day. Someone write us in, let us know how that goes for you. How you would ever do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Yeah. I mean, some things I see people do are pretty backassward. Yeah, that's, well, you know, there's certainly some backward people out there. Yeah. Especially in South Carolina where we live. It's like that's their day. It might be South Carolina backass where it's day. That sounds much better, right?
Starting point is 00:18:03 It makes more sense. Yeah, I think so. We're going to change that. It's also National Hot Chocolate Day. Monday. Okay. I'll have some hot chocolate. I mean, it's probably going to be pretty cold.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Yeah. It's supposed to snow tonight, maybe. Is it? Flurries. And it's not going to stop. It's not going to. National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day. Inspire Your Heart with.
Starting point is 00:18:26 are say that three times quickly i will not do that inspire your heart with art that sounds like something hallmark made up yeah i think they did inspire your heart or some art teacher you know yeah it was like man freaking art people don't appreciate art anymore which may be true you know i mean i don't give a shit about art i don't be an nfti bro that's art that is art this is really art if you think about yeah the radcast especially National Kazoo Day. Yeah, it's the pinnacle. A pinnacle of art.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Yeah. National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day. Oh, okay. There you have it. It's time for another absurd holiday. There's no shortage of dumb things to celebrate. A Redcast, Social Media holiday segments. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Let it play through it. That trails off for a while. I like it. It does. I'm enjoying it. You know. Yeah, take a deep breath. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:27 It gets our breath after the social media holidays. Yeah, my tears. I mean, nine and one on a day. Yeah. On a today. Sure. Nine and one. Which I think may have had something to do with the delirium there at the last.
Starting point is 00:19:42 I think maybe the sheer amount. Yeah. Just really. Overwhelming. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, this is a hard job. I mean, you know, get through all those.
Starting point is 00:19:53 I'm sweating. I'm sweating. I'm sweating. I'm sweating. Yeah. You are. I am. But it brings us to, you know, a serious segment.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Yeah. Trends in the Metaverse. One day we're going to find out. I wonder if people like that joke. Probably not. Probably not. You know what I mean? People are probably like, are they doing that again?
Starting point is 00:20:21 Yeah, they're doing it. Like looking around or whatever. I'm not going to stop. No, don't never stop. I can't stop. I can't stop, won't stop. Can't stop. Can't stop.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I think, what's the country artist? daughter that's now probably more popular than the country artist. And didn't she sing that? Beyonce? Yeah. That's what we're talking about. The country artist? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:44 No, achy, breaky heart. Who was that? Who's his daughter? Miley Cyrus. Didn't she have, can't stop, won't stop? No, I thought that was Sean P. Diddy Combs. I don't know. Who knows?
Starting point is 00:20:56 So, first trends in the metaverse. There's belief out there that, you know, everybody's kind of vying for what's going to happen in the metaverse, but there's a belief out there that the metaverse is actually going to play heavily into the hybrid work environment that we're moving into, the work from home. And I don't know if you've seen this. There's some apps out there. I've seen them kind of looked at it, like where, let's say we're all working from home.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Sure. Which I am, by the way. Yeah, you are. And you get into a team meeting. And you have, like, root, like, but you get into, like, maybe like an online environment, like a gaming environment where it's like kind of like your digital office. Sure. And think of it almost like a game that you're in.
Starting point is 00:21:41 And so you have an avatar. And so you go into a room and maybe Sally and Bobby and Roger in there, you know, like whatever they're doing in that room. Right. Maybe there's elements in the metaverse or things that you can see or do in that room specifically. Sure. Follow along here. Okay. I am with you.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And then you can host meetings in that room that you might do. do either live like a video or is your avatar within the room talking to one another. Huh. So in other words, it almost becomes like a true virtual office that you're at. And the only thing I don't get, and I've seen these kind of things, it's just like if you're kind of playing the game and moving your person around, it's like, what are you getting any work done? Yeah, you're, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:27 You're so worried about, you know, goofing off. Like, goofing off as part of a game, you know? It might be fun. But yeah, you're right. It would be hard to concentrate on the content that you're supposed to be digesting probably, if that makes sense. Yeah. I don't know. This hit my radar.
Starting point is 00:22:46 I thought this was pretty cool. McDonald's. Trolled. You know, I'm kind of lumping in. We're lumping in. NFTs, the metaverse, and crypto. Sure. It's all.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Trends in crypto, whatever. Yeah, NFTs. Don't think too much about it. Yeah, don't think too much. But it's sort of related. I don't know if you follow any of these restaurants. They just kind of hammer people on Twitter. Wendy's especially.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Yeah. But, you know, crypto's been taking a little bit of a bath this week. And McDonald's put out a troll. I'm paraphrasing the tweet, but it was like, you know, how are those crypto social media managers doing this week? Yeah, right. And there was a lot of memes and such that kind of. kind of came with it and showed.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Sure. Actually, the, like, the grid of how crypto's been doing is the arches of McDonald's. Oh, that's funny. That's funny. Pretty clever. I like that. Pretty clever. And different things like that.
Starting point is 00:23:45 But I'm pulling it out more to how all these brands on Twitter, especially, whether it's metaverse-related or not, are really acting more like people than brands. And I think it's been beneficial for them. Yeah, they're personifying themselves. they're giving themselves like a yeah giving themselves a personality personality sure and uh an image an but uh what's your take on i mean do you follow wendies and all that is it just kind of like eh does it make you want to buy a burger i what so if i was gonna buy a burger from a fast food place would probably be from wendies yeah yeah because they're better but not because of their tweets
Starting point is 00:24:23 b because they're tweets i mean that's b is pretty far from a on that you know what i mean this is the difference between the top of of the Grand Canyon in the bottom. Yeah, correct. A, B. Yeah. I don't follow them so much as like it'll pop up in newsfeed or whatever. And it's, I love it. I think it's great.
Starting point is 00:24:43 I love it when they completely flame each other. Jack in the box does a little bit, I think. Yeah. They should watch it, though. They've got a lot to, they've got a lot of dark history. They probably should not like get too far into it. Yeah. Remember when you kill those people?
Starting point is 00:24:56 Well, that's like the, the scary thing for like these brands is they, They got to be, you better be pretty perfect if you're going to be throwing lovin jabs all the time. You know, so you don't see Chipotle in there too much. No. Yeah. Easy target. Easy, super easy. Easy target.
Starting point is 00:25:13 So many things. Yeah, let us alone. No. Okay. All right. You did it. Yeah, I did it. I went there.
Starting point is 00:25:21 But yeah. I will say this one of the thing is it relates to trends in the Metaverse. We do have a client good for, a really awesome water filtration company. They do stuff. Saw the ad. Yeah. And they are about to launch an NFT project that we're helping them with. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:38 It's going to be really based in some charitable stuff. Sure. With water purification around the world and, you know, the tokenization of some art, digital art, like everything else. But a lot of it's going to go back to charity and kind of the purity of water like worldwide. They're kind of hashing through some of them. Sure. to give them a shout out because I think I'm pretty excited about some of the stuff we're going to be bringing the life for them.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Well, you know, as a general rule, and you know this about me, I hate charity. Like, I can't stand it. You know what I mean? But that one sounds pretty good. I mean, I can't stand charities. It's just like, you know? Yeah. Figure out yourselves, people.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Shit. You really are screwed. I'm just kidding. I give to charities. I love charities. Yes. All charities. Almost all charities.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Yeah. I don't like the ones that are like against me. Yeah. You know what I mean? You especially, you really like the human fund. Yeah. It's my number one. George Costanza's human fund. I dumped probably 25% of my income into the human fund every year. I, e. yourself.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Yeah, correct. Yes, yes. So there you have it. It's time for it. Oh, my God. We're going to have that out. Trends in the metaverse. And there you have it.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Short but sweet twins in the metaverse this year. So sweet. I do have some good, some good stuff here now in today's news articles. So M&Ms. The candy. Candy. Candy, not the guy. M&M's.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Yes. Not multiple rappers. Yes, too say. Not multiple M&Ms, the rapper, but M&M's, what you eat. Sure. A couple of pieces of news, they update all their characters and their colors this week to be more inclusive and they're getting quite a bit of blowback. People are having a fit.
Starting point is 00:27:28 And they should. Yeah. This is the dumbest thing I've ever said. It's silly. And look, fine. Yes. Everybody is fine with more inclusivity. Right.
Starting point is 00:27:40 This isn't about like, it's naying anyone, but this is candy. Yeah, like, it's a cartoon. It's a cartoon. And these characters are classic. And it's like,
Starting point is 00:27:48 all you do is come off is pandering. And bad pandering. Is there somebody out there that was like, you know what? It's about time. It's about time they did this. No. No.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Someone in the boardroom goes, goes, you know, this is a hot topic. This could really make us look progressive. Yeah. I can hear it. I can hear the douchebag in the room going, hey, you know, we should need to change our characters and be more inclusive. And it's candy and you have classic characters and you have people attached to it.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And like, there's no reason to go there. If you want to do something, do it something more organic and more like meaningful than like changing your iconic candy characters. It means nothing. He's not, I keep, it's going to be nothing to nobody. Yeah. And, and it had the opposite effect. I guess if you subscribe to the idea that all press is good press. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Maybe they did it. Did you see, you know, Tucker Carlson is? Yeah. Everyone knows who fucking Tucker. Stupid question. Number one in media this year. Yeah. He had a, a fit, dude.
Starting point is 00:28:51 But he did it in a weird way to where he was like, I wouldn't go get one to get a drink with one of those pieces of candy or whatever. because they like de-sexualized him a little bit. Yeah, right. I wouldn't want to go get a drink with like, well, but you would before though, to be clear. Yeah, yeah, exactly. All right. Yeah, the green M&M I would definitely have had, you know.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Intercourse with, sure. That's what you're going to say? I was just to have a drink. Sure, okay. Well, it leads to. Yeah, you have drinks and went down the deep end. You never know. The, this was dumb.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I will, and then I did pick up they are doing a new packaging launch where they're paying tribute to four breakthrough musical artists by having the album mark kind of on the packaging. I saw that. There are four themes around Casey Musgraves, Her, Rosalia, and David Bowie. I saw the David Bowie one. That was kind of the only one I really recognized.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Yeah. I don't know that I'd recognize Casey Musker's is, but I would not recognize our country musicist. I mean, I've heard that name? You wouldn't know one of her songs, would you? Would I? I don't know. You wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:29:55 You might. Is it country? It's country. But she's had crossover hits in pop. I bet I've probably heard it in my daughter's car. Probably something, right? Yeah, for teen angst. I've got so much teen angst right now.
Starting point is 00:30:09 It's all coming out. It is called coming out. So I didn't mind the artist's play. I just thought the freaking characters was the dumbest idea. Is there somebody somewhere like some transgender person or something being like, thank you, M&Ms. I feel better. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:26 That would play out. Just for him and M. So much, yeah. Yeah. Change the characters back. Yeah. It's a dumb idea. She shouldn't have gone with it.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Nope. All right. I'm going to boycott Eminem's. Just kidding. I don't care. I'm going to stomp on every pack so that everyone gets a smush bag of M&M's. I'm just kidding. I mean, I think it's a dumb idea, but I don't care that much.
Starting point is 00:30:54 I don't really eat Eminem's honestly. I don't either. It's not good for you. No, it's candy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So you never eat candy.
Starting point is 00:31:01 You know what? I don't eat that much candy. Really? Yeah. I would eat bags of candy If it was If it were good for you I would
Starting point is 00:31:09 Because I like the shit out of candy Yeah But I also like Feel guilty Because I don't really exercise that much So I'm like You know what I don't need to get any more out of shape
Starting point is 00:31:18 And then I have a drink And I feel better Miller Light Is partnering with Metaverse company See everything can fall into the Metaverse Yeah We got to spread it out here
Starting point is 00:31:31 That was a good segue Too Yeah accidentally Miller Lights partnering with Metaverse company DeCentraland to bring a virtual bar to patrons during Super Bowl. The Metaverse Bar will be the only place where people can view Miller Lights ad. Oh, shit. What? If you want to see the commercial, you've got to go to the Metaverse Bar.
Starting point is 00:31:52 God, I wasn't knowing to, but now I am. The Metaverse Bar offers Miller Light a way around Anahezer Bush Super Bowl alcohol marketing exclusivity that began in 20. 10 i.e. Budweiser. In bed for whatever. Yeah. Yeah. So this is their way of trying to get some borrowed interest at the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is like one of the, you know, if you're going to borrow interest
Starting point is 00:32:15 from something, you borrow it from the Super Bowl. This is the, right? Yeah. I mean, number one. Yeah. So they're trying to stay cold even though they're boxed out of actually the big game. Sure. So there's, so only Budweiser can advertise during? They're the only, uh, really
Starting point is 00:32:31 alcohol company. They have alcohol exclusivity. Wow. I did not know that, but I guess it makes sense now. Yeah. I don't think I've ever seen anything but a Budweiser,
Starting point is 00:32:41 but like that's a hefty paycheck. Oh my God. Or Super Bowl. They're like an international conglomerate now, though, right? In Bev or whatever it is. Yep. They own a bunch of shit. I'm going to go have a real beer
Starting point is 00:32:51 inside the Metaverse. Sure. And go down to decentralized land. Yeah, I'll meet you there. It's like there's so many of these names. Like every week we talk about them. It's like, okay, how do you choose which one you're going to go be a part of? I can't even keep up with it.
Starting point is 00:33:08 I guess Roblox isn't quite appropriate probably until Roblox after dark exists. Yeah, we're working on it. Yeah, I think it's a pretty good idea, actually. I mean, come on. I think we should go promote that to whoever owns Roblox. Yeah, Roblox, Inc. Is it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:24 It's something like that. I think you buy stock, can you? You can. They're publicly owned now. They're doing fine. They're doing just fine. I did like this one. I actually have been talking about this as a growing trend.
Starting point is 00:33:39 And it's not so, everybody wants the latest, innovation, that you want, everyone wants innovation. Innovation is kind of slowed down. You think about how little has happened on the smartphone in the last like five years. Right. Like the camera gets better.
Starting point is 00:33:51 You get more memory. Okay. All right. That's about it. Right. But QR codes promise add interactivity boosts with growth of connected TV leveraging the uptick and second screening. The scannable codes on TV ads give marketers another digital data signal about consumers.
Starting point is 00:34:10 This comes from MarketingDive, our good friends at MarketingDive.com. Here's why I like this, because I believe in this. What's happened is the pandemic has made something that didn't quite take off 10 years ago. Sure. Now take off because of like menus. You see people have gotten, they're built into the phones now, and people have gotten more used to using QR codes because of the pandemic, not touching stuff.
Starting point is 00:34:36 So you've finally have this adoption rate matched with the technology, you know, getting mainstream. Because they're now on the phones. Because it used to be when they first came out. You'd have a reader, right? I got to open. I got to get to that app. I never used. It's on page 12 of my iPhone swipe across.
Starting point is 00:34:54 You can't find it. So it's like too much friction. And now it's just in the camera. And you have people, because of menus and restaurants and other things, more used to it, I think you have kind of this perfect moment for where in marketing, it makes a lot of sense to use them in the right place. I agree. And when you're watching TV, you always have a phone in your hand. Second screen.
Starting point is 00:35:19 And so if you've got that ad running and they can pop it up, you can extend that commercial to a further reach, a better impression, and take them to a landing page to get a direct sale. Yeah. So I think we're in this, you know, QR codes. Oh, that's so 10 years ago. Right. But I think the actual practical use in marketing is that or close to its most pinnacle moment.
Starting point is 00:35:43 I agree. Because, I mean, even non-tech savvy, maybe older people, whatever, they can point their phone at the fucking thing. Yeah. Oh, here's the menu, right? Exactly. And that's what I'm saying, even the untext savvy. So, you know, you had this bell curve of adoption with everything.
Starting point is 00:35:59 And, you know, it's all, it's been the slowest moving curve ever with the QR codes. Yeah. And it got a little faster when it got built into the phones. But you still didn't have a really dynamic reason to have to do it. Sure. The pandemic forced you to have to do it, young, old middle. So now there's an adoption rate so that if they see it in an ad or somewhere else, they're more prone to use it where they blew it off five years ago.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Yeah. So, yeah, you're right. I think I still have a QR reader app on my phone. You probably do. I probably do, because I never erase anything. So, I mean, can you still use those? I don't know. There's no reason.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Only in the metaverse. It's a trend in the metaverse. Trending down. Trending down. So I like this. If you're out there and you're listening and you're coming from marketing knowledge, there it is. Get QR codes on your TV spots on connected TV especially because you can pause and different things like that.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Do it. I guess you can do that on your TV too if you've got a DVR. Sure. But we'll see. There's a lot more video out there. Everyone has a DVR, I think. So Budweiser is returning to the Super Bowl, and there's a new Bud Light Next,
Starting point is 00:37:05 which is a zero-car beer. I might be into this, folks. You're definitely into it. That's also making a Metaverse play. Of course, they're. Oh, it's so meta. They're going to run six Super Bowl ads. It includes bringing Budweiser back to the game
Starting point is 00:37:22 after it sat out last year and plugging its new. new zero car bud light variety with an ad that is expect to make a metaverse reference that comes to us from adage adage.com all right well good for bud light i guess right yeah six commercials pretty pricey that's a lot of commercials a lot of money in the in the metabole i wonder how much do you think that cost i think we should start the metabole before anyone else does super metabole metas yeah we should trademark that we probably can't say super bowl but we could say like Super Meta Bowl. Super Meta Bowl, yeah, because you put a word in the middle.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Hey. They've got, yeah, I knew that was coming. They've got the puppy bowl. I don't know if you ever seen that. Puppies or puppy bowl? Small dogs, baby dogs. Baby dogs? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Puppies. Yeah, no, not the sweater puppies. Although, you know what? Yeah. The Metaverse, that would work fine. Yeah, puppies bowl. Yeah. What is a puppy bowl?
Starting point is 00:38:26 I guess if we'd be puppies? Is it a bowl they eat out of or like literally a bowl like a football game? It's not a football game so much as it is. I think, I mean, I haven't seen it in a really long time. I think they just have fucking puppies around and it's like cute. I don't feel of football.
Starting point is 00:38:40 If they have a football, it would be better. Read my lips. Right. No. People do like puppies. Who doesn't like? You hate dogs, though.
Starting point is 00:38:49 You always talk about how much you hate them. I get hate mail over my dog antics. Um, Bud Bowl. You remember the Bud Bowl? Who doesn't? It was excellent. Greatest commercial ever. One of.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I think they did it for like two or three years, right? Yeah. Bring it back. Yeah. Maybe that's what they're doing. They should have smashed one of them, though. The glass bottles. You know, playing.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Yeah. Oh. That's dark. So get this. This is, uh, this is, uh, the least surprising news of today. Gambling boom leads to NFL sponsorship sales surge. What? TV ratings are not only the thing rising for the NFL.
Starting point is 00:39:27 The league is swimming in sponsorship dollars thanks to surging interest from sports betting casino and lottery brands. I mean, there's a team in Las Vegas now. Yeah. Right? It's kind of hard to dance around that one. Yeah. So. A lot of money in sports gambling.
Starting point is 00:39:44 A lot. And why wouldn't they be on the NFL shows? It's legal. You see draft kings everywhere. You can't. I mean, the freaking Caesar's sports book thing. is everywhere. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Which, I mean, I'm fine with it. Yeah, it's fine. Do it. Go for it. But, yeah, 140%. Spending in those sectors jumped to 140% this season. Season helping boost total rights fees hall for the league and its team to $1.8 billion worth of rights deals this season.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Billion with a B. Billion with a B. It comes from Ad Age as well. Thank you, at age. And not surprising. Not surprising at all. Nope. We're going to close out today with, you know, something to cough my radar.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I like to close it out on a serious note, you know. Sure. Little Debbie. Instantly not serious. Little Debbie and Hudsonville ice cream. We're teaming up to turn seven of the snacks into ice creams. Really? Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Does it say which seven? Swiss cake roll. Excellent. Nutter butter, nutty butter. Sure, whatever it is. Like all the best ones. Yeah. Oakmill cookie, whatever, like peanut butter roll.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Like every one of your favorite, like, they had cosmic brownie. Yeah. Star Crunch, do you remember that one? Yes, I think pretty sure it was on there. That's excellent. I was like, yeah. Look, good story.
Starting point is 00:41:10 So I grew up as a kid and... You did for sure. I think I did. I think I grew up as a kid. And we always had little debbies in that house. You know, it was like that was the one thing. I was, you know, my mom kept us. generally healthy, but we had Debbie cakes.
Starting point is 00:41:26 That was like our snack. You got to have it as a kid. And I'd come home from elementary school, and I had a routine. I'd watch Transformers. Nice. And G.I. Joe. Yep. And I'd have a Swiss cake roll every day and an apple juice. And every time I left it on the floor, my sister baked it up after me.
Starting point is 00:41:47 It reminds me to this day of picking up after my Swiss cake rolls. Well, I mean, it's a family. moment. Yeah, a nice family moment. I was a big family only. I mean, I was five years younger than her, you know? Yeah, still are, I think. Yeah, I was.
Starting point is 00:42:01 To this day. Yeah, to this day. I have somehow caught her. I don't know why. Seems like you would have by now. But, yeah, Swiss cake rolls. And when I saw this, I'm like, hell yeah. As soon as I come off low card, I'm having me some Swiss cake ice cream jumping on it.
Starting point is 00:42:15 I think Swiss cake rolls are my favorite. I think it's my very favorite. Yeah. Thank you. Amen. Thank you. Amen. That wasn't even a bell.
Starting point is 00:42:24 It's like amen. Yeah. I'm trying to think about it. Even though, you know, my grandmother, this was passed down for generations. My grandmother was buried with a box of little Debbie nutty bars on her, on top of her. She ate three a day. And she lived, she lived to right at 90 years. I mean, she drank a pot of coffee every day and ate like three nutter bars every day.
Starting point is 00:42:48 Nutty bars. That was the car nutty bars? I can't remember what you know what you're talking about. I know the ridges. Yeah. Peanut butter bar. Yeah. It looks like a wafer.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Waifer. Yeah. She ate like two or three of them a day and drank a whole pot of coffee every day. Damn. For like 50 years. And she lived like 90. So anyone that says coffee's bad for you, my grandmother begs the different. You know, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:43:08 You always see like the people that are like the oldest like people in the world. Like what's your secret? They're like, oh, I have a glass of brandy three times a day or something like that. Or like I smoke a cigar. Like some people are just hearty. Yeah. You know what I mean? Just jeans.
Starting point is 00:43:22 You could smoke 10 cigarettes a day and like never exercise and still be lived 100. I think it's genetically driven, unfortunately. They're going to eventually probably be able to tell us exactly how long we'll live. And we may or may not want to know. Would you want to know? I don't think so because then everything's building up to that. Yeah. Your whole life you're like, well, I'm going to be dead.
Starting point is 00:43:44 X. Yeah. Maybe you'll be motivating it. Like you like we all, nobody wants to die. But like you just be thinking about that. But that's, I'm serious. Like you, you would nonstop be like, oh.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Yeah. Yeah, I was not, I only got 10, 10 years, four minutes, three seconds. God. That was suck. The countdown. It would maybe, like I said, maybe it would motivate people to, to be better. Or you just be like, fuck. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I think people would be probably worse. They just be like, because everybody, no matter how far it was, even if you're like 25 and you knew you were dying at 64, you'd be like, damn. Yeah. You know, I'm not making it to 80. I already know. But back to grandma, voted,
Starting point is 00:44:26 she was buried with the Nutter Bar. So that's why this hit home. Sure. My Swiss cake rolls every day. I haven't had a Swiss cake roll in quite a while, though. I haven't had any little debby's in a really long time. I might have one after this after my fasting.
Starting point is 00:44:38 If we had a producer, I mean, you know what I mean? Yeah, producer was today. Nick out sick a little bit and self-production. Feel better, Nick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:48 Yeah, we hope you feel better. Yeah, this was a lot to mess with. We really need. Yeah, we do. We do need a lot. Cool, man. Anything else for the day?
Starting point is 00:44:59 I don't think so. Words of wisdom. I don't eat the yellow snow. I don't know. It is supposed to snow here on Nashville, Charlotte, Greenville, like a little bit of dusting maybe. And so that's relevant.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Yeah. So I avoid the yellow snow. Instantly relevant. So. Well, you know where to find us for at the radcast.com. Search for little Debbie cakes. You'll find all the insights. cassoos in the orchestra
Starting point is 00:45:23 I'm at Ryan offered on all the platforms Joey, Joe and Sean Instagram, TikTok, everywhere. We'll see you next time on the Radcast.
