Starting point is 00:00:00 I don't know where all this is going, but it's just almost hard to keep up. Like, some of these names are different every week. You know, if someone was listening to me, say, like, five years ago, like say some of these things that I just be like, what the hell is that guy talking? You know, like, it's like, I'm... Or it'll be like, back in the day, this is how they talked about this stuff. Yeah, dumbasses. Before we were all virtual. The question is out there, is TikTok still a short form video platform.
Starting point is 00:00:30 You're listening to the radcast. If it's radical. We cover it. Here's your host, Ryan Alford. Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. It's Friday, March 11th, 2020. I've got two lovely co-hosts today.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Oh. Or maybe one. Well, you know. Sorry. Joe, you're not lovely. I've been called worse. Yeah. Well.
Starting point is 00:00:56 The somewhat lovely Joe Hamry. I thank you. Lovely, Joe. Thank you so much. And the definitely lovely. Absolutely. Christina Yassi. Just because I'm a woman.
Starting point is 00:01:05 You got my name right. Yes. You don't know how hard I thought about that in practice before the episode. You do, though. You heard it. Yeah, I coached you. You were a good coach. We were all right here.
Starting point is 00:01:18 How's everyone? Good. How's the week been? Long. But not bad. Yeah. I've been running sound for a children's show. Wow.
Starting point is 00:01:29 Yeah, yeah. Hard to top that, Joe. Honestly. Honestly. Cat in the hat. Cat in the hat. Oh, you saw it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:37 How was the sound? I was there. It was phenomenal. I came to three showings with boys. I wanted to know an impartial judge how the sound was. I didn't go. Oh. Well, that's disappointing.
Starting point is 00:01:48 I know. I really thought you did. He had you going too. I know. But not actually going. I didn't go. Like he didn't actually go. I would ever.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Christina is a lovely actress who plays in Up and Coming. Yes. For every we've been teasing it forever and a lot of people like what the fuck is that like it? It's a show they talk about it on the episode, but there's other than I guess they can go watch the. And what's fun about it is even like I'm in it and I'm still kind of like, what is this? What's happening? Right. There's an Instagram page.
Starting point is 00:02:20 There is. There is. So opencoming dot series. Go check it out. You'll see pictures of Christina. Me playing myself. Yeah. A heightened version.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Very creative name of. Christina. Christina is your character. Yes, yes. What can you tell us about that character without giving plot away? Oh, she's born and raised in a small up-and-coming town and works in a man's world. And that's all I'm going to give you. That's a good synopsis.
Starting point is 00:02:50 For the moment. Yeah. Yeah. It's a good teaser. Very good. I like it. It's been a good week here, Radical. I was on the panel yesterday at a FedEx event speaking.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Thank you FedEx for inviting me. Talking about e-commerce. Oh. Yeah. It's a $1 trillion industry now. Learn that yesterday. T. T.
Starting point is 00:03:11 T. There is so much money in the world. Believe me, I know. Amazon package on my doorstep every day. Yeah, me too. Every day. Just looking at my ring door, but like, oh, there we go. There's another one.
Starting point is 00:03:27 We do get a lot of. You order a lot of Amazon? I try not to. I'm one of those. I try to shop as small and as local as possible. Stupid. Yeah, I know. Congratulations on that.
Starting point is 00:03:41 It fits into my, like, generic white girl stereotype as well. Yeah, that's excellent. Thank you. You're not a mother with kids yet. Right. That doesn't need it like yesterday. Right. I'm not against it, but I don't order nearly as much as many people do.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Yes. I ordered almost nothing. Yeah. But still somehow. Always a box. We have a lot of stuff in our house. Very weird. Give me one thing that's been on your radar this week.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Any subject, any topic, like, and don't say Ukraine. We're good news. That's been on everyone. This is the good news network. You can go get that news anywhere else, even though it's important. And we do support Ukraine. All right. But with that said, we're not going to.
Starting point is 00:04:27 That's all we're going to do. There we go. Pro Ukraine. Yeah. We're done with it. There we go. You want to go first? I've been studying the stock market.
Starting point is 00:04:35 So, yeah, my dad is big into stocks, and I said, hey, will you give me lessons? So I go over to my parents once a week and learned all about stock options last night. Do we have a stock tip? Do you have a stock tip for us? If you're wanting to, you know, low risk, high reward, I would recommend stock options. Okay. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Nick, write that down. There you go. Do we get that? He's got it. Stay tuned when I'm a trillionaire. Yes Can I borrow some money? Yeah, can we get a loan for the podcast?
Starting point is 00:05:04 You can do an option. That's fine. Ooh. Option to buy. Always options. Yeah. Always a good option. Keep them open.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yeah, I always do. You know what I mean? Yeah, you do. I don't. No, you have no options. I don't know what that means. No options open. It's a sad, cruel world.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I'm just waiting to die. Yeah. It's like everybody else. How was your week? My week's been great. Great, Brian. No, it's been good. I enjoyed the event yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:27 It was actually very unliked. A lot of nice people. In town? Yeah, was it the Marriott here locally? The Marriott. Marriott. It was very nicely done. There's a lot of people there.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I mean, for a Marriott ballroom, it was like 200 people in there. So I had a nice 40-minute presentation on live social selling on e-commerce. And it's pretty good. Nick, decent. Give thumbs up. All right. Why is you putting thumbs down, Nick? Are you shaking your head right now?
Starting point is 00:05:58 was throwing tomatoes at me. I was just like, what? That's part of the presentation. It was. So he could juggle. It makes good content. It's a metaphor, really. Why is Nick vomiting?
Starting point is 00:06:09 Yeah, I know. Anyway. So I do have this. So I'm talking with a company called Earth 2. And so they're part of the Metaverse. They are a, they've made an exact replica of Earth in a Metaverse that they have created. And they're selling real estate. on said Earth 2.
Starting point is 00:06:31 And they're selling millions of dollars a month of real estate. And they're probably hiring me to be like a fractional chief marketing officer or something. I like that, right. Yeah, I like that. So we're in discussions. So I can't give way any other secrets. But sure, kind of pumped about that. Is the real estate market as bad on Earth 2 as this on Earth 1?
Starting point is 00:06:52 Or it's good. Asking for a friend. Yeah. Depending on what position you ran, I guess. Yeah. Yeah, if you're buying not good, you're selling pretty good. But then you have to buy again, unfortunately. Yeah, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Right, right. You sell your Honolulu house on the Earth, too, you know. You're not going to be able to re-buy that. Yeah. And then what will you do? Yeah, I don't know. If you can't. You go back to your studio on Earth one.
Starting point is 00:07:16 I would imagine, and I'm going to make this recommendation to them, that they start building outer space as the next, why not? The next land, you know. What about underground? Oh, hey. Wow. The mole people.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Yeah. I mean, it's a, it's a, hey, if they're listening, we're giving them a lot of free ideas. I'm going to charge the mole people. You know the mole people are listening. Yeah. They are. I'm going to buy a bunker on the Metaverse.
Starting point is 00:07:44 I can get in it. There's nukes that. Yeah, right. Can I put some VR goggles on? You're prepared. You prepared. World War III, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Oh, I like it. I like it. What do they call those people that are planning for that? Doomsday preppers. I'm a prepper in the metaverse. Prepper in the metaverse. Prepping. My parents are preppers in this universe, but we don't have to go into that now.
Starting point is 00:08:08 I've not bought toilet paper in two years. Wow. So I'm grateful for it. That's something else. All right. I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole. Yeah. Sounds like it would be a good one.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Plenty. Plenty. Well, we did run out during the pandemic, you know. Ah. I didn't. I didn't run out either. I meant as a society. Sure.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Oh, oh, wow. I thought you were like actually people that didn't stock up. I was like, wow. Yeah, we were using cotton towels. Newspapers. We as humans. Poison ivy leaves. That was a weird choice.
Starting point is 00:08:44 I don't know why you did that. This is rash. Where did this rash come from? A literal rash. Seems like there's like so many other options. Yes. Had a good week on the radcast. We had Alex Morton, who joined.
Starting point is 00:08:54 joined us on Tuesday, switching gears from our poison ivy rash discussion. Sure. Alex Morton is a multimillionaire from MLM, multi-level marketing. Right. Doing well. A lot of people making a lot of money on that. So I would go listen to it. Alex is very cool.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Got a great YouTube following. Really enjoyed talking with him on Tuesday. Next week, editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur Magazine, Jason Pfeiffer, joins the show. All right. That's exciting. I don't know. Trying to butter them up to run some articles for me. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Shmooze. It's called a trade-off, right? Yeah. No. A bargain. I haven't called any favors yet. He was actually, he's got a great podcast. Cool guy.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Really good sit down. We recorded several weeks ago and, uh, give that a listen on, I guess that would be the 15th. My math is right. Yeah. Probably not. Tuesday the 15th. That's right.
Starting point is 00:09:49 That's right. Tuesday the 15. Well done. 4.30 a.m. I hope you're up and listening at that time. I'll be up. We schedule it. I'm busy. I'm busy.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Yeah, I'm busy. Yeah. Meditating asleep. Yeah. With my eyes closed. Yeah. I think it's a good time to bring up this beautiful hat I have on. Nice hat.
Starting point is 00:10:08 You like this hat. Very patriotic. Yes. Our newest sponsor. Branded bills. We do have hats ordered officially. They're coming. Nice.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Joe, believe it or not, they are coming. With the Radcast logo. They're extra nice. and we're going to do some giveaways. I actually even have on a demo of a t-shirt here. All the swag. All the swag. But go check out branded bills for 20% off.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Use code Radcast 20. 20% off. You can give it to your friends, give it to your family. Hey, just put it on your social media. They want the deals, man. And we want them to get credit from the Radcast. Shout it from the rooftops. Shout it from the rooftops.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Radcast 20. In all seriousness, I have about four or five of their hats even before we got our Radcast deal worked out and they do fit exceptionally well. And we've got some other gear in the works. Hoodies, T-shirts. I love a good hoodie. I've got a Radcaste. No big deal.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Nick's got one. They're very warm. I'm feeling warm. Very, very warm. Toasty. That's why I don't wear it in here because I would be the... It's a sauna. Sweat. Mm-hmm. So go give them some support. Branded Bills. Brandedbills.com.
Starting point is 00:11:21 You can find them on the Radcast website as well. well we've got a link there that will actually you don't have to put the code in you hit that link it automatically puts it in so everything you order 20% off they're good good peeps over there go give them some love telling the radcast set you boom with that it's time for another absurd holiday there's no shortage of dumb things to celebrate a radcast social media holiday segments Yeah. Catchy. Christina will need to learn to get the...
Starting point is 00:11:54 But not in my ears quite to that decibel. Excellent. Yeah, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Yes. Yes. Especially the yeah at the end, right? Yeah, which I totally missed. So sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:12:05 We've got some important social holidays, like always. Ones you can't miss. This is the most serious part. This is the most serious part of the session. I mean, social holidays, there is at least seven a day. Up and through, what, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. And we're going to lead off today, which is March 11th. We've got five holidays today.
Starting point is 00:12:27 I mean, we jammed him in today. First, it's National Johnny Appleseed Day. Of course it is. Yep. Glad he gets a day. Yeah. That's some recognition that has really done. I have gotten too old and haven't heard it a while.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I remember the candy Johnny Appleseeds. But like, what is Johnny Appleseed? Is it some basic? I remember the Disney. Like there's a little Disney. short with him as well. Yeah. He planted all the apple trees, right?
Starting point is 00:12:52 Yeah. That's the deal. Yeah. He's like, he's like Paul Bunyan. Yeah. But instead of chopping down the trees, he was planted up. I just remember the little box of candies. They still make this?
Starting point is 00:13:01 I hope not. I think that's why I had so many cavities. Very good, as I remember. And not to be left out, another one that you really need on your radar. If you hadn't planned, and it's past lunch, you're, your S-O-L. National Oat Mill Nut Waffles Day. Wow. That's a mouthful.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I don't know if I've ever requested oatmeal or nuts in my waffles, truly. I know. I've never heard of it. Blueberry, maybe. It's too many breakfast options in one breakfast option. Yeah. And one non-breakfast. Right.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Nuts? I don't put nuts in my waffles. Okay, I take it back. Pecan waffles. Okay. I guess that is a nut. Stand correct. That's why you're here.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Pretty unsmart. That would have gone completely unchecked. Yes. That would be completely unchecked. Completely unchecked. I didn't want to upset someone, get canceled. Christina, you're going to like this one, and I know you're holding out hope that you still might get an invite. It's National Promposal Day.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Wow. Way to just, like, jab at my homeschool roots there. Yeah, I will always hope that I get famous enough that someone will. At the ripe age of, what, 20-something. Yeah, 20-something. Yeah, vague nondescript 20-something. Yes. Pushing 30.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Yeah, I look forward to promposal day every year. March 11th. Yes. Every year. Especially when it's on a Friday. You know, just meant to be. Yeah. Is this where we're going to see like, I won't probably, I guess,
Starting point is 00:14:28 Facebook feed or Instagram feed like people's kids. They're like ridiculous invites or something. Probably. To, you know, their sweethearts or whatever. Is this like, is this a thing? Is this known enough? It's a thing. Oh, it's a thing.
Starting point is 00:14:41 It is totally a thing because that's what I said. When my daughter was a senior high school, they were talking about prom poses, I was like, what? Don't you just ask somebody? Oh, no, I know about promposals, but I didn't. No, but I'm saying it's a big thing. Right, but like, as of March 11th, this is the day to do it. That's more what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Oh, no. But I am accustomed to the promosals. It depends on when you're promen. That's, yeah, exactly. I mean, March makes sense. But March is probably early enough that you can get ahead of it. Mine was always in May. I think ours was in May, probably.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Yes. It's also World Plumbing Day. I just mansplained that, by the way. We have so many to get to. No, Christina. All right, Ryan, go ahead. Man explained it. You did mansplained it.
Starting point is 00:15:17 World Plumbing Day. World Plumbing Day. Okay. We're going to leave that there. Sure. And finally. That's what the plumber's for. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:26 National Worship of Tools Day. Hey, Nick. Congratulations, buddy. Oh, low, low. Bow down. Bow down to Nick, everyone. It's a... You don't like that one.
Starting point is 00:15:38 The, uh, I don't even... There's a lot going on with this one. Worship of Tool. And it, I looked it up. Because it was the only one on the whole sheet that I was like, I couldn't even totally wrap my head around because I was going down the, you're a tool thing. But no, it's actually work tools, like worship of work tools day. That's a thing or I guess?
Starting point is 00:15:59 Is it read my lips? No. There you go. That's what I think about it. Who's funding that? Like, how does this happen? If I had to guess, I'd think Ryobie or what's other tool companies? It's a collab.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Home Depot. There you go. There you go. There you go. And the Catholic Church. Let's do a worship of Tools Day. You come to our place of worship. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:23 It's called Home Depot. Right. There's some kind of communion. A couple of signs of the table saw. Pentagon. Yeah. March 12th, Saturday. National Alfred Hitchcock Day.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Do love some Alfred Hitchcock. I need some like mystery music. I don't have any. You have that goat screaming. Yeah. That's kind of. That'd be a suppression of expectation, which he'd be a subversion of expectation, which he was known for.
Starting point is 00:16:48 Don't say smart stuff. We don't. We don't get that. Right over their heads. No, see, you don't make us look stupid, please. Not hard. No, well. See, that's meeting the expectation, not as a version of.
Starting point is 00:17:03 There you. The woman splained. Woman splained. Yes, I get woman sprained a lot. I need it most of the time, to be honest. Unfortunately. Most people do. So any favorite Alfred Hitchcock movies or is it like just so?
Starting point is 00:17:16 old like psycho. I don't know. The birds. The birds always freaked me out. Rear window? Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Yeah. Yeah. It was. Psycho's the one though. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:28 It was. I like the one with Vince Vaughn. Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. He was a little creepy. It's not as good. No. Shot for shot.
Starting point is 00:17:36 It's so good. Yeah. Brilliant. Moving on. It's a national baked scallops day. Not just scallops. Baked scallops. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:45 If you fry those things, you're fucked. Yeah. You don't get to celebrate. This isn't your day. It's probably coming up, though. Well, I mean, fingers crossed. Yeah. I'm on pins and needles.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Yes. Personally, for fried scallops day. Yeah. It's also National Girl Scout Day. Good for them. Cookies. The Cookies. No, just the Girl Scouts.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Not the cookies. Oh, yeah. Again, different day. Doesn't have cookies on there. This is just the Girl Scout. It's in her. You would think they were at a time. It's not, though.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And that's why they have to have separate dates. Wow. You're, Woman's planning. You calm down on her. She's certain. It's national plant a flower day as well. Plant a flower.
Starting point is 00:18:24 I won't be doing that today. No. What's tomorrow, right? Yeah, Saturday. Plant a flower day. Does that change your mind? Possibly. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:32 You could plant a flower for this reason. It's National Working Mom's Day. On a Saturday. Okay. I mean, at least it's on a Saturday, I guess. We don't have to work. Take the day off on it. Just for you.
Starting point is 00:18:48 You don't have to go to work today. Wednesday, though? That's real. That's a real thing. Yeah. Sunday, March 13th, National Coconut Tort Day. I had to really think about that. Coconut tort.
Starting point is 00:19:07 I didn't think you were going to get it out. I got it there. I was like, I got it there. It was like a start in the car. It was sputtering. It got there. Coconut tort day. Wow.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Coconut tort. I'm not a coconut fan. I can hate court. I like coconut. I do too. Twinsies. Look at that. I don't know if I like...
Starting point is 00:19:25 Read my lips. No. I don't know if I like torts. Isn't a tort like a civil law? Isn't that what that is? I think it's like a tart. Like it's some kind of dessert. Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:19:37 It's a fancy tart. Yeah. Kind of like Christina. Take one to no one. Okay. You fancy. You too fancy. It's also a national earmuff day on Sunday at the 13th.
Starting point is 00:19:50 It feels wildly late in the season to have an earmuff day. That's supposed to be like 20 degrees this weekend, though. Well, maybe that's why. Maybe that's why. They somehow Nestor Domest it didn't. Yeah, you didn't get it. It is National Good Samaritan Day, too. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Shouldn't that be every day? Yes. That's hard to make fun of. Yeah, it is. So everybody be a Good Samaritan on Sunday. and only on Sunday. We'll see. It's also National Jewel Day.
Starting point is 00:20:19 The singer. No, the things the kids smoke. Things the kids smoke, she says. They've got a day for it. Yeah, the kids smoked them. It's an overarching day. The youths. You can whatever,
Starting point is 00:20:32 think about it however you want. It's jewel. It could be the singer. Could be jewel pods. Could be jewels in general. Yeah. Family jewels. Whatever you want to call it.
Starting point is 00:20:42 It's National K-Non Veterans Day. again that's like a sad thought yeah i know it's like i think about all the german shepherds that have died in the line of duty yeah i guess they're veterans so they didn't necessarily die right that's true that's true maybe it's probably some still it's like still your mind goes there my mind went there so we'll celebrate them but we'll move on to the next one that's much more interesting national open an umbrella indoors day absolutely not i'm not nope nope Fuck that shit I'm out
Starting point is 00:21:14 Isn't that bad luck? Yes that's seven years Yeah that's the mirror Yeah yeah Yeah umbrella is like three I think I don't know if they put a year amount I'm I'm talking like I know what I'm talking about And I don't so that's on me
Starting point is 00:21:26 Three years That's on me Open an umbrella day I'll say three years indoors I'm not doing it I wouldn't I think I've done it before Pff idiot
Starting point is 00:21:36 No wonder things have gone south You can do it on a stage If it's in the world of a play. Ah. Maybe that's loophole. Maybe that's what they're talking about. It is Sunday, though technically I would call it Saturday, but my show notes have it on Sunday because I guess it happens at midnight. Daylight Savings.
Starting point is 00:21:57 If you're listening, we're well ahead of it. You now know it's daylight savings. Only if you listen to this on Friday. A real one. That means that the clock in my car will finally be right because I just never set it back. Yeah. We have a couple of those here at work. It never changed.
Starting point is 00:22:13 It's like doing the quick math. It's right half the year or however long. It's a brain teaser. It's a brain teaser. It's a brain teaser. It's one hour and seven minutes fast. Monday, March 14th. National Learn About Butterflies Day.
Starting point is 00:22:30 I've been waiting for the opportune moment. I've seen an IMAX film about Monarch butterflies, everyone. So you just want to soak that link. So we can watch it on Monday. I've only gotten through caterpillars. I paused it. Oh, yeah. Because I was waiting for Monday.
Starting point is 00:22:45 You got a long way to go. You know, this should have been on Sunday, but we'll take it on Monday. National napping day. Fair enough. So Monday, everybody take a nap. Napping day. If I have to. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:22:58 Twist my arm. Yeah. Why wouldn't that be on the weekend? I don't know. It's also National Potato Chip Day. You know you're going to see that on social lays. Pringles. They're already planning out all.
Starting point is 00:23:09 their social shenanigans. I'm stuck in there. Shenanigans. Armstuck. We gave them that idea. We, we know so much that one before the commercial came out.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Of course. Of course. Yes. We did. We have the receipts. I mean, was it longer before for them to have made the commercial?
Starting point is 00:23:25 No. No. But, but. We did. At least a week. Sure. Oh, finally. National.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Write Down your Story Day. Is Monday. Okay. That like a biography. That's like deep. Yeah. per our memoirs that we discuss. Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Write down your story. It seems like deep stories. Yeah. There's a very short story. There we have it. It's time for another absurd holiday. There's no shortage of dumb things to celebrate. A redcast, social media holiday segments.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Yeah. I love it. Yes. everyone's favorite segment or maybe just ours. I don't know, but it leads right into a true segment of segments. Trends in the Metaverse. You know, we joke about a lot of things on the show, obviously. Sure.
Starting point is 00:24:27 But at the FedEx event yesterday, we got pretty deep in the Metaverse talk and discussion. And I'm not so sure we should take it lightly anymore. We've been lightly mocking it. Yes. And it's a little bit. It's more, I think, the people and the hysteria around it maybe and the hype cycle that I make fun of. The trend. More than the reality that it's coming.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Because again, I watch my kids play Roblox all the time to know that they like this shit. But it's like, anyway, we had a good discussion yesterday. But I do have some news. News in the Metaverse. Let's hear it. Poly Chain. Pantera leads a $10 million investment into the Metaverse. Space Runners is the first Metaverse only fashion house to be built in the Metaverse.
Starting point is 00:25:20 It will, they've raised $10 million and they want to be the first dedicated fashion brand operating within the Metaverse. They've collaborated with NFL players, Kyle Kuzma and Nick Young to release wearable in a NBA champion sneaker NFTs. I was going to say they're in the NBA, not the NFL, but it's fine. NBA. NBA. Yeah, NBA NFTs. That's a lot. The NBA champion collection sold 10,000 NFTs in the space of nine minutes and will likely
Starting point is 00:25:51 to help finance space runner's vision of an end-to-end fashion metaverse on blockchain. Space Runner? Yeah. Is what it's called? I have not heard of that. I mean, you know, we, again, have fun. Sure. But this shit's selling to someone very quickly every time they launch this thing, especially
Starting point is 00:26:08 when there's like a celebrity or an athlete or something. attached to it. So it's like there's obviously demand for it. Right. Yeah. Whether it's speculation and all going to be junk bonds in five years. Yeah, maybe. No one knows. But so fashion out. So it's essentially
Starting point is 00:26:24 like what we talked about a few weeks ago with Nike had bought that company making digital sneakers. Yeah. And you know, it's just selling digital goods. No different than Los Angeles. Or two selling digital real estate. You're buying digital fashion and you can put it on your avatar or
Starting point is 00:26:40 have it in your, I don't know, digital closet, virtual closet. Right. You know, then you could put the clothes on. You could come out of the virtual closet. Yeah. With the clothes on. With the clothes on.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Yeah. You did. You should come out of the closet. I'm going to. I can't wait. Virtually. Yeah. Well, virtually.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry, honey. She doesn't watch. Yeah. She doesn't care.
Starting point is 00:27:03 He doesn't care. So, I don't know where all this is going. But it's just almost hard to keep, like, some of these. names are different every week. It's like, yeah, it's,
Starting point is 00:27:13 none of it's, you can't keep track with it. It's like, if it was all happening on Roblox, or it was all happening on Facebook, okay. Right. But it's like 37 different,
Starting point is 00:27:23 yeah, universes, like, what's it called space jams? Space runners. They missed an opportunity there. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:27:31 Yeah. Yeah. With a Z maybe to differentiate it from the movie. Yeah. Jams. Call me space jams. Was that, whatever?
Starting point is 00:27:38 Is that the NBA jams? Remember the BHAs? Remember the B basketball game. They make one of those. Like, you know, the Golden Tea? I've been trying to find one. Yeah, it connects to the internet.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Four player. Yeah, that was before my time. I want to do a spinning, like, fireball dunk on your head. Right. Virtually, though. Virtually. Right, right. In the members.
Starting point is 00:27:55 No, with my meta-hammer. Yeah. In your NBA sneakers. Space jams. Space jams. Space runner. In other news, Adobe is taking another step into NFTs. Finally.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Adobe's social network B. Hans is adding support for the Polygon cryptocurrency platform three words I enjoy. Yeah. Letting users more easily showcase polygon-based non-fundgible tokens or NFTs. You know, someone was listening
Starting point is 00:28:24 to me say like five years ago, like say some of these things that I'd just be like, what the hell is that guy talking? You know, like, it's like Or it'll be like back in the day, this is how they talked about this stuff. Yeah, dumb asses. Before we were all virtual. I'm historically on the wrong side of this type of thing. So I remember when they first started putting phones and cameras and I was like,
Starting point is 00:28:43 this fucking stupid. Right. What do you need a camera on your phone for? Everyone has a camera on their phone. Yeah. I'm an idiot. Well, same with like iPods and phones. I was like, no, I want separate devices.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Yeah. Would rather die. Yeah. Would rather die. Just not listen to music. Truly. To carry more than one thing. B-Ans is essentially where people upload like their art, right,
Starting point is 00:29:03 graphic artists and stuff. Upload all their art, like their graphic designs and stuff. It's kind of like a social network. And I think this is going to allow them because a lot of these designers are getting tapped to make these digital artworks. So this will allow. It's like a portfolio. B-N-S-S-P-E-N-C-E. B-E-H-A-N-C-E.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Okay. I want to make sure you're saying it right. You've got a history of it. I'm just kidding. I really want to know what it's so I can look it up. I think I pronounce everything wrong. You got Yossi right, though. Hey.
Starting point is 00:29:32 See? Got the important one. Dropping the bucket. Yes. Hyundai creates Metaverse service station to view the 3D replica of locations. You can buy some gas in the MetaVor. Maybe it's cheaper there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:48 The emergence of the first Metaverse service station is here to transform the virtual platform. Hyundai Oil Bank has created a digital all-in-one service station inside the Metaverse platform that users can access to visit a 3D model of the site. Yeah. That's a lot of words put together that I don't really. It's like, I get it, but I don't get it. Yeah. I couldn't explain it to someone. No.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Oh, my God. But I'm not totally lost. I'm close. Yeah. It's a virtual gas station. Why would you need gas? Who says that you might need your car in the Metaverse. What I think is interesting is in the Metaverse, why would we, can't you design it so that you wouldn't need.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Fossil. Yeah. That's what I'm saying like. Like, if it's the Metaverse, then we already know that we can have electric cars, I would just be like, well, gas is a thing of the past in the Metaverse. It's like if you get cancer in the Metaverse, it's like, what the fuck? I feel like we should have fixed this. How did that get?
Starting point is 00:30:48 Okay. Anyway. It says, uh, kiss the virtual ass. Customers can access oil banks channel and use the stations, facilities to fuel vehicles with fossil fuel, hydrogen, uh, liquefied petroleum gas and electricity. So you could choose how much damage you're doing to the Veritiverse. So I can't have a Tesla. in the metaverse that's exciting.
Starting point is 00:31:09 It's probably like a way to like teach a lesson. Like this is what's really like visualize in the metaverse what's happening depending on your choice of. Oh totally. You see the actual damage that you're the. This is all to make us, you know, think that we need to be. The whole in the meta.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Metaverse ozone. The metazozo. Meta metavers ozone. Yes, exactly. Right. Carbon emissions. Yes. Virtually. Don't get me started.
Starting point is 00:31:32 There you have it. Trends in the Metaverse. That last note just hits different. It does. Moving on to our broader marketing and advertising news. The question is out there. Is TikTok still a short form video platform? That's the question.
Starting point is 00:31:57 And here's the answer. It seems less and less so. After the company announced last week that it's expanding the maximum length for uploads to 10 minutes. Who's going to watch a fucking 10 minute TikTok? Well, I think it's funny that we think 10 minutes is a long time. On TikTok, though. Sure. I get tired of 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I'm like, but what's the difference between that and YouTube? That was my thought. Now, I know the platforms are different. Kids are dumb, I guess, and they don't have any. I think you're going to see, but I think you're going to see this transition from, you're still going to have the frenetic stuff that's on there, but like it's going to change because you're right, that stuff works when it's 30 seconds, and it does keep your attention for that 30 seconds. But when you have 10 minutes, you don't want to see 10 minutes of that.
Starting point is 00:32:47 You know what I mean? So it's going to be more like YouTube. Sure. I think that's the point. Right, because then if you have, I have a lot of friends that have pretty big followings on, I saw that look, TikTok. Where are we going with this? But they don't on YouTube. And so it's easier to just, you know, keep producing that content in the platform that we're
Starting point is 00:33:07 works for you. We have a much, I'm a much bigger following on TikTok than we do on, on YouTube. Right. And actually, we've gone the opposite direction. We've started taking stuff that was Instagram videos and putting it on reels and just
Starting point is 00:33:21 cutting it down to a minute. And it's like people love it. Yeah. We're so funny and good. Yeah, you guys are so funny. We are. It's an acquired taste. Sure.
Starting point is 00:33:30 It's like, like it. Some people like it. Some people don't. Nick is a huge fan. Yeah. Why is he throwing up again? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Oh, why is he in the quarter? He has the flu or something. He's not feeling well. Staying with the TikTok theme. Sure. TikTok launches Sound on. Sound on is an all-in-one platform for music, marketing, and distribution. The platform lets artists upload their music directly to TikTok and earn royalties when TikTok creators use the music in their own videos.
Starting point is 00:33:57 There you go. Cutting out all the middlemen. They'll royalties for you. I've always kind of wondered how that works on TikTok because you can use any song. Right. Do they sound on, game on. Sound on. With sound on, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:08 I think this is good. I think anything that kind of democratizes the whole content creation and music, it's like, and don't get you wrong, the record labels have a, look, if they front money for you to do things, okay, you owe them some things. But like, if you self-produced, you need to have avenues to monetize. Right. And there's all these gatekeepers. And it looks like TikTok is removing some of those barriers, but that's salute.
Starting point is 00:34:34 Yeah, I love it. I think it's really cool. I think Spotify, the pay, like, the money you make is really bad. Yes. Well, I'd say if you don't have like tens of millions, you're not making money. Like, or real money. Right. Virtual money.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Virtual money. They'll throw in some NFTs. Some worthless in it. Right. Five dollars of an NFT record. Yeah. Yeah. The Radcast NFT.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Where that's an opportunity. Where are those? Oh, Papa. Yeah. Exactly. We might have them. We might end up NFTing the whole of them coming in all seriousness. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:11 So it is a thought. I thought about like, I've thought about just like, if we put it up on a site where you couldn't like record it, we just charge a dollar. Sure. Could we sell a million views or watches of it? Like, you know. Oh, I think so. I mean, only a dollar to watch the 30 minute pilot. A dollar every time or a dollar and you have access.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Well, I think you could have access, but you can't download it. Sure. I'm sure someone can hack it. A dollar per view. And then if you pay $5, you get 20 views. And if you share it, you get a 20% royalty. Okay. I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:35:50 See? I can get on board with this. So how many of your friends do you share it with 20 friends? You can make, I don't know, start making some money. Royalty. People like money. There's no question about that. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:00 It was just a crazy idea. I'm like, why don't we just self-produce this and put it out? there get a dollar to watch it i mean i don't know yeah adds up pretty quick i mean if you got everybody in greenville there's 300 grand everybody puts it on their social media channels etc yeah social media channel what the fuck ever accounts and because it's only a dollar i feel like you might avoid the pirating situation yeah yeah you know it's market it by saying this is cheaper than gas yes so much cheaper this is this is like yeah by the time it it released it will be like one-tenth of a gallon.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Exactly. Look at that. There we go. More to think about. Craft mac and cheese is partnered with Netflix to promote the new film, The Adam Project. Of course they did. Starring Ryan Reynolds and premiering on March 11th.
Starting point is 00:36:51 It would be mac and cheese. It's a match made in heaven. It's a Mac made in heaven. Oh, Nick. You deserve a sound effect of that one. I will say. What do I get? The Kraft Heinz Company has.
Starting point is 00:37:03 has made a bigger effort in recent years to integrate its brand into pop culture. The Netflix partnership helps accomplish this in a way that compensates for the lack of ads on the streaming service. See, this is branded content. This is what we need in our show. We need Spinks, like Spinks, if you're listening,
Starting point is 00:37:20 what you need. You need a coffee cup on every show table in the metaverse that is up and coming. Sure. Can we make up and coming? Up and coming is a metaverse is what we should be. Yeah. Just that, yeah. I mean, I take it.
Starting point is 00:37:34 There we go. But in all seriousness, this is where it's going, people, like if you aren't paying attention. So people don't want to be advertised to. Netflix is doing subscriptions. Everybody does this. There's no ads. But brands have to promote and get brand awareness. So they're going to be doing these more organic promotions to where they still get the reach and frequency they need, but in a less intrusive manner.
Starting point is 00:37:58 So there's your marketing lesson for the day. Do you think all of this is going to circle back around? itself. Like we're going to go into this. Oh, and Ryan Reynolds is eating Kraft Mac and Cheese. And then in 20, 30, 30, 40 years, it's like, I would rather just have a straightforward 30 second guy trying to sell me something. I don't know. I don't know if we're going to go back to that. Like, I mean, we're still in it. Right, right. TV isn't dead and linear TV and all. But I don't know. I just wonder in the world of the TikToks when you, you know, 30 second content can perform well. Yeah. Yeah. Just a just a, just a.
Starting point is 00:38:33 I think it's going to be a more organic advertising world forever moving forward. Now, marketing will always be there because what you have is we give and trade a lot of data and a lot of, I don't know, willingness to kind of absorb this stuff because we trade it for convenience. Because like all these social platforms, you don't pay to be on this. I'm going to pay into on TikTok. Wait. Are you serious? Are you paying? You shouldn't be.
Starting point is 00:39:04 I said $10 a month to it, Nigeria. That's wonderful. Good Samaritan Day. Yes. Nick, why did you give me that email address to send that $10 to for my own? They did say they were, you know, struggling. Is it a bit? Are you turning to funny?
Starting point is 00:39:23 Never. Never. I will say that I've noticed that product placement on like regular TV. Yeah. It's a little clumsy. You know what I mean? They'll be like, hey, let's see. all go to Red Lobster now.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Exactly. It's Lobster Fest. Here's a show I can't figure out. Maybe you can help me out. Supermarket sweep, anybody? Haven't seen it. I've seen it, but I don't watch it. What's the premise of the show?
Starting point is 00:39:45 It's a game show. Okay. So it's hosted by Leslie Jones, the lovely Leslie Jones. Yep. And they do all this, and they run through and grab stuff off the shelves. Did you just side-eye me to Christina?
Starting point is 00:39:53 You fuck? What? It's doing it the whole time. You just haven't been paying attention. But all over the shelves, I mean, it's real brand. It's like Coke, Pepsi. Like, how do they... I'm sure it's sponsored.
Starting point is 00:40:04 I mean... By all those brands, though? Maybe. I mean, it's like every brand you would see in a grocery store. Some are more prominent. Yeah. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Blue. I take this very seriously.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Yeah, you do. You do take your grocery shopping seriously. I love it. I would guess there's got to be some promotional something in that. It's crazy. Just look at it. Yeah. Look at a clip of it.
Starting point is 00:40:27 It's called what? Supermarket sweep. It's every fucking man. But wouldn't it be so much more destructive? I tend to write that down. I think if it was like Dr. Thunder and all of this stuff. Is it drawing up again? I deserve it.
Starting point is 00:40:39 No, it's real. It's weird. I will look at it sometimes. Twitter rolls out a new tool for creators to manage their earnings on the platform. Twitter is introducing a new tool for creators called the creator dashboard. Social media giant. Hey, they're a giant. Says the new tool is designed to help creators analyze how they make money on Twitter
Starting point is 00:40:59 and how much their earning for monetization. features. Hmm. There you have it. Are you guys, anybody active on Twitter? Not as much as I should be, but I check it more than I tweet.
Starting point is 00:41:11 I don't ever, ever look at Twitter. I don't know if this. I love Twitter. It's the only one that I've, like I've deleted my social media before and, you know, set time limits, but Twitter's the only one that I've always kept.
Starting point is 00:41:22 Probably because I don't use it as often, so I've never felt like it's a problem. Fair enough. Do you look at Twitter? Yeah, I'll look at it once a day. Really? But, and that's not much. obviously.
Starting point is 00:41:31 But I'll kind of mindlessly look at see if there's anybody said anything funny or if there's like some news thing that I hadn't said. Right. I mean, maybe I should be looking. You look at Twitter too? Team Nick. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:43 We don't look at Twitter. So let me go. This was a blast of the past. Abercombeian Fitch is shifting for a new era to change public perception. The brand is looking to TikTok. Abercummi and Fitch sets out to transform itself from the once self-proclaimed exclusionary brand. complete with scannily clad models on shopping bags. Oh, sex sells.
Starting point is 00:42:06 And even shirtless male door greeters. But they're now moving to more to a brand centered around inclusivity. I'm sure. I feel like they're really behind on this. Like, this has kind of been a trend for a while. I got an opinion on it. It's a little different. Look, no one will fall.
Starting point is 00:42:30 or believe that like we should be and having children like no one should be shamed into like having to look or be a certain way. So I believe in that wholeheartedly. With that said, look at me. I was staring at you.
Starting point is 00:42:44 I was like, why are you looking at my gut, bro? But with that said, I don't fault them for going more to that direction, but there's something to be said for having a brand that has some amount of substance and some amount of, of specialization and or scarcity or uniqueness. And so does that uniqueness need to make others shamed for not looking a certain way?
Starting point is 00:43:12 Absolutely not. Sure. But when you give up your soul. But are rock hard abs, scarcity? No, I'm not saying what they, that they didn't need to pivot. Sure, sure, sure. But just to go towards the messy, going to the messy middle is a recipe for your fucking brand going to the shit. Like, because if you don't want to be in the messy middle, you need to have something that stands out.
Starting point is 00:43:35 And I'd rather it be like, you know, something exclusive. Not necessarily people acting or looking a certain way, but some exclusive, some reason to go there. If you're just another trendy brand that has no substance of interest, whatever that is. And again, I don't think that interest should be. something that makes people other people feel better. Right. But just to go towards, we're just going to be more inclusive. We're just going to, you know.
Starting point is 00:44:06 I disagree because I feel like that that's where the substance comes into. You have a brand that has been arguably substanteless and very just focused on aesthetics. And then you move into this kind of, well, we're going to be more inclusive. Is it trendy? Is that happening because that's what's making money 110%. And I get frustrated with this whole conversation of body positivity. Yeah. Because it does feel like it's just what's selling.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Yes. I think it's a conversation worth having, and I feel like that's a movement into something that is more meaningful. I feel like it's purpose for purpose sake and not good marketing. Okay. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like, I just think they're jumping on the bandwagon.
Starting point is 00:44:47 That's why it feels late to me. Like, this should have happened. Sure. You know, when it. But then we wouldn't have had the shirtless teens at the door and stuff. And, you know, who wants that? Yeah, I know. We would have missed it.
Starting point is 00:44:59 All the hot bottles, posters. Postal shift, right. Yeah. High point there. So here's what I think. I just wonder like. Brian's like,
Starting point is 00:45:06 but where's the, I do care about I want to finish this thought. And then you could say whatever you want. No, but you don't want me to, you don't want to do that. Not anything. You know what I.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Um, do we not want our kids to aspire to greatness and or, and I'm not talking about Abercrombie of the old. Sure. But like. exercising and getting outside and being social and like do we not want them to aspire to something more than being overweight if they you know if they can control it I'm not like someone can't control it devil's advocate it goes both ways like do you do you want your child
Starting point is 00:45:51 to believe oh I shouldn't go to the pool with my friends because I don't have the body of the girl on the Abercrombie bag. Well, I don't think, I think there's a fine line of saying you shouldn't go to the pool because of that. But having aspirations to be something and to push yourself. I can get behind that. Yeah. Like, I don't know the balance of the two. Sure.
Starting point is 00:46:12 You know what I mean? I recognize the other side. Sometimes people can have these conversations and they're just so far in their chamber. They can't see the other side, you know, but I just don't, I don't know the balance of it. But I also don't like, oh, just do whatever. You don't like shame on either side. No. Bottom line is what it comes down to.
Starting point is 00:46:31 Yeah. And I also don't want shame on aspiration. Sure. And goals. And, you know, and I mean that, I don't mean that just physically. And but in a lot of ways. I feel like we're moving towards this. Oh, whatever, whenever, however, it's all good.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Right. Hmm. I don't know. Hmm. Hmm. Joe? Your thoughts? I forgot what I was.
Starting point is 00:46:53 So here's what I think about, and I'm not going to get as deep into it as you guys are. To me, that sounds like that company is in deep shit. Because I'll go back to my old example of Ruby Tuesday, which I know very well from, unfortunately, having worked there for quite a while, is they changed their whole deal. They're like, we're going to be fine dining. We're going to have steak and lobster. How many Ruby Tuesdays are there? Not many. One.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Within 100 miles. Yeah. Maybe one. you fucked her, bud. You know what I mean? Yeah. Stick with the chicken tenders. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:26 That's what's salad bar. That's all anybody cares about. Abercrombie. Now that's, those clothing stores are going out of business like, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:36 I mean, unless you're, I don't know. E-commerce. Yeah. Or like super exclusive like Gucci or. Yeah. Right. Your big fashion houses. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:47 I mean, because like Lulu lemon, what's, where do they fall? It's a different. It's exercise company brand and whatever the hell. Legions or whatever the hell. Athleisure. Thank you very much. Very good. I get them mixed up with the other one. There's two that sound the same. Which one was like the one? Jim Shark. That doesn't sound anything like Lulu.
Starting point is 00:48:06 Jump the shark. Hold on a second. But there's one that was like they would send stuff to Housewives and they would sell it on Facebook. Is that Lulu Lemon? No, Lula Row. Lula Row. That's the other one. Yeah. Which was, yeah, which now is there's like a Netflix special. about it being a Ponzi's game? It's very good.
Starting point is 00:48:23 But you didn't know the name. I watched it. No, it wasn't that good, but I watched it a while back. I watched it. Good discussion, though. I like the discussion. And we're going to move on here.
Starting point is 00:48:33 We're getting long on the tooth on this episode. Tinder rolls out in have access to background checks, powered by nonprofit Garbo. I am here for this one. I didn't understand that. Background checks on. tender.
Starting point is 00:48:51 So, we're rolling out. And ironically, we're talking with a company to do their marketing that does not only background checks, but STD and health records. Oh. So that you go into it and you know, like, you can see their health records. Like, it's almost like disappearing or something. Like you can give them access for like a minute. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:10 Or something. And so that, but you know, like, not of someone's vaccinated or not. Yeah. Yeah. I know. Without the conversation. I mean, you, you know, what's interesting is. And I'm married and don't have to worry about this, but thankfully.
Starting point is 00:49:25 But I'm happy for both of you. I love that. But like, you know. Such a fun time to date. Yeah, I know. It's like, but it wouldn't be, it wouldn't it be nice if you just had those boxes checked? Oh, boy. Wouldn't it though?
Starting point is 00:49:37 Yeah. Background check. Check. Check. I just want a dating app called Swipe and Check. Just check. Check the box. Sponsored by the FBI.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Never been on Tinder, by the way. Just to let everybody know. It's a different world If the person's results indicate they have a history of violence, for example The user will be encouraged to report The match to Tinder Company told TechCrunch it removes any accounts
