Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, hello, hello. New intro. Wow. Threw me for a loop there. I always do the same thing. I'm like, it's kind of become my thing, but I just thought I'd just go, what's up? Hello. I'm shaking, not stirred.
Starting point is 00:00:15 What's going on, guys? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. It's Friday, August 19th, 2022. Christina Yossi, welcome. I'm back. You're back. One little hiatus.
Starting point is 00:00:30 I did. How was it? It was good. I was working on new plays with actors from Hulu shows. So I was way out of my depth, but it was great. That's good. Did you learn anything? Oh, yeah, I did.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Lots of very smart people. That's good. And I made the mistake of Googling them. And I was like, oh. Okay. You actually are. You say you are. You are real.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Yes. That's cool. Yeah. Very cool. Very good. Very good. It's our weekly marketing and advertising and business news edition. We've had a good week.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Christina's back from playwriting or whatever. The new play festival. Yeah. New play festival. Nick, you had a play festival. Yeah, new play festival. Nick, you had a good week? Yeah, it was great. Good weekend? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Now we're heading into another one? Yeah, time's flying, man. It's Friday. Almost September. I mean, you should be celebrating today. You know, being a creative, I'm going to give away a little bit. I'm going to go early in the show notes. It's National Photo Day.
Starting point is 00:01:24 That's right. Happy World Photo Day. Take a picture. It'll last longer. I'll take a screenshot. If you know what that was originally from, what movie? You guys are so young. You'll never get this. Take a picture. It'll last longer.
Starting point is 00:01:38 It's not Goonies, is it? Is it something with Jim Carrey? Nope. Nope. I could go with it. I think it was set a little differently. Nope. Nope. Nope. I could go with it. I think it was said a little differently, but Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Okay. They said it, and then they also said it, I think, in Back to the Future or something else had it.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Back to the Future, I didn't know. Pee-wee's Big Adventure had a riff off of that kind of line. I've never seen it. Pee-wee's Big Adventure? Come on, man. Have you seen it, Nick? I've never seen it. Pee-wee's Big Adventure. Come on, man. Have you seen it, Nick? I've never seen that one. Large Marge? Come on.
Starting point is 00:02:11 You gotta watch some Pee-wee's Big Adventure. That was like the funniest movie ever when I was a kid. Add it to the list. It's very silly. We do look silly. We were talking pre-episode. My wife, Nicole,
Starting point is 00:02:22 is not a huge comedy person. And bringing that movie up, i could think of one movie that she would uh walk out on in like the first 10 minutes peewee's big adventure would be that one a lot of people probably did but uh it's been a good week at radical we've had a blistering actually cooler week as far as temperature goes, but I feel like the week has run together as far as heating up work-wise, lots of stuff going on. Lots of film shoots. We finished a really fun shoot last week, but editing this week for Sheets and Giggles, mattress shoot.
Starting point is 00:02:58 What a mattress. Yeah, Christina was involved in that, her multi-talented, we use everyone's talents to the max here. We like lots of hats. Acting uh show running everything yes yes multi-talented and uh but it's gonna be fun on their new mattress coming out and so uh be on the look for that we'll share that content if you follow along any of radical's channels which you should be at radical results on instagram. And so a lot of content, a lot of video,
Starting point is 00:03:27 and lots of new possibilities. I'll leave it there, but it's been a good week. I saw this bit of news here right before we came in. Yes, big deal. You know, anything with large round numbers gets my attention. Penn Entertainment,
Starting point is 00:03:43 who purchased 36% of barstool sports in 2020 for 163 million just finished buying the remaining shares for 387 million which by my bad math gets to around 550 550 ish somewhere. Do you think they were saving for it after the initial one? You're like, oh man, if we dream big. They're a casino. They're casino-based. They print money.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Insane. It's like me to go gambling in Las Vegas. But Dave Portnoy, who was already hurting for money, is suddenly now a gazillionaire again. So I'm happy for Dave. Good for him. Hey, smart guy.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Congratulations, Dave. Whether you like, love, or hate the platform or everything he says, he is a brilliant marketer and media maven, I'll call him. He knows what's popular. Yes, he does. From a comedy perspective. At least to the masses.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Sometimes it's a race to the bottom, but he gets there in a hurry. You know what I'm talking about, Nick. Good phrase. Good phrase. Yes. So like, all right, let's do a little unplanned. Should I go off notes?
Starting point is 00:04:56 But it's related to Port D'Aulay and Barstool. Like what's the first thing when I say Barstool sports, what comes to mind? What's like the first thing that comes to mind for me Instagram okay but like maybe specific to the genre of content like what do you like what's the I think comedy before I think sports yeah but I might I'm probably not the target audience for it probably not not. Nick? Comedy. Comedy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Yeah. Just kind of slapstick. Yep. Mainstream. Goofy. Like, I mean, I send it to people.
Starting point is 00:05:33 At the end of the day, they produce now a lot of original content. Yeah. But, if you follow like the main account, they're just riffing like
Starting point is 00:05:43 they find the funniest video. People send them stuff yes that's the thing is when you become the machine that they are people send them all the best stuff they do the work they're like america's funniest home videos irreverent home videos like if the r-rated american funniest home videos get sent to them or just the stupidest thing like two three golfing buddies whatever they do getting drunk in a golf cart and they go slamming into something. They send that thing to Barstool. It's out there.
Starting point is 00:06:10 Yep. But yeah, they do gambling and everything else now too. But Dave Portnoy, congratulations on the close for $387 million. Cannock success. No, cannot. Yes. I found this interesting. So, you know, going from Portnoy on the heels, but, you know, we like to give perspective here and I'm going to give a little perspective because, you know, the last three to four months, all you've heard in the news is
Starting point is 00:06:39 recession talk. And so it admittedly, there's a lot of data out there that spending has slowed and there's things that that align with that but what i did is i did an analysis and a nixon show this if you watch any of the video you'll see the search trends of the term recession and how low they were in february and march yeah but the news started talking about it And so this is the search trends for people searching for a recession. And so what I think happens, and this is not a conspiracy theory. Not totally. But what I think is the news, we can create, if the news talks about it, you can create the perception. And so, yes, there's been a shift in
Starting point is 00:07:27 spending some of the government money is not in the market anymore there's stuff and inflation has caused stuff but inflation has been around and the housing market sucks yeah but the inflation has been around for a couple years like bread has been more expensive gas has been more expensive for like last 18 months right and we weren't in a recession 12 months ago. Sure. You know, but the news starts talking about it and it's like it builds sentiment. And I feel like the news can control the sentiment so that people then that
Starting point is 00:07:54 might start pulling back and saving cause, Oh, we're in a recession. Okay. That's just been less. I should do this. You know, like I'm not saying people shouldn't be physically responsible,
Starting point is 00:08:02 but I'm saying is the news and the sentiment of the news well you plant the seed you plant seed and if you start going you make people even though most like everyone a radical no one's financial situation has drastically changed you know in any way yeah maybe you're raised here and there but nobody's going my rent has gone up well okay so that's it inflationary stuff so i'm not saying there, but nobody's going backwards. My rent has gone up. That's inflationary stuff. I'm not saying there's... Not in the last 60 days. It's also interesting because a lot of retailers are overbought because
Starting point is 00:08:33 it was a mass response to pandemic fear. A lot of things are actually on sale and are more inexpensive because they're overbought. There's too much stuff. But the news has scared the shit out of everyone. So everyone's not buying. So people aren't spending.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Exactly. So like it's controlling the narrative is what I'm getting at is like the power of the news cycle and the power of like what you talk about. And if like, like tomorrow, like if we, and the Radcast is pretty popular. Let's, let's not lie. We can, we can push narrative here. We can, we can control sentiment at the Radcasts. If you're listening, help me control this.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Let's all start posting that we're out of a recession. Like, if we just started running articles that says recession fears subside and whatever, I think spending would go up. Even though there's no financial change necessarily. If sentiment changes, then the spending changes. I think spending would go up. Even though there's no financial change necessarily. If sentiment changes, then the spending changes. And so self-fulfilling prophecy. And look, the reality is the economy kind of needs a little bit of these ups and downs. You pull back on some of the inflation.
Starting point is 00:09:45 The government needs people to spend a little less so that inflation goes down. Right. You know, so they get reelected. It all ups and flows. Yeah. I'm just saying. There's my conspiracy theory for today. Don't watch the news and spend your money. I've been told there's a recession.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I'm just choosing not to participate. Yeah, it's like the Elliott Wave theory. Ever heard of that? The what? The Elliott Wave theory. Uh-uh, what is that? It's a form of technical analysis that looks at recurrent long-term price patterns related to persistent changes in investor sentiment and psychology.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Uh-huh. There you have it. But if you tell everybody we're in a recession, even if their financial position hasn't really changed, they're going to start acting like they're in a recession. Something to think about here today on the Radcast. So if you're out there and, you know, you're buying all the talk, let's not buy it.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Let's just make it like it's 19, what's this, 1970 something. What was the song? When it's wonderful. Like back when it, whatever it it was there's a year that like was so wonderful anyway 2008 2008 that's what it was so that was real because you had a huge housing bubble there was a lot of uh bad loans in that oh yeah that one that one wasn't just the news talk. Have you seen the big short, the movie about it? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:08 It's kind of scary. It's unnerving. It's unnerving. But that's kind of what I'm saying is like someone's controlling the strings, right? Oh, yeah. I don't think anyone denies that. Someone or something. With the money.
Starting point is 00:11:19 We'll see. Back to some lighter news. The Radcast has a really killer lineup the next three weeks this week we had Cosmo from Cosmos Q let me just tell you I've become addicted Cosmos sent

He has a castle. He has a castle, which we may or may not be going to.
Starting point is 00:13:40 More on that. Think Billions is his latest venture and thought leadership group, Mastermind. So you can look that up. Think Billions. He's also doing plant-based Lunchables. Yes, I did see that. Yes. He's like, you'll never go back.

You do. You play the game. He's sending me a plank that you put your phone down. Quite an entrepreneur. You do. You play the game. It's cool. Literally.
Starting point is 00:14:10 So you're doing a plank. Oh, yeah. So you do all this board, and you put your phone at your face level. And he has an app and a game so that that balancing is kind of like driving, turning or whatever. And you gamified being in a plank. Oh, my God. I would love that. Genius.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Genius, I tell you. Genius, I tell you. If I had any sound effects, I'd be hitting them. Ding. Alas. There's my audience. There they are.
Starting point is 00:14:39 There they are. There they are. There they are. Captive audience. But yes, Howard Payne's episode will be out in a few weeks. we've got some big hitters let me just tell you if you drink pepsi you're going to want to listen talking with some big hitters at pepsi so uh any pepsi drinkers out there you're going to be hearing all about pepsi's marketing in the next few weeks i'm going to leave it at that and we've got some big country music artists that I'm in talks with.
Starting point is 00:15:06 So if you're a country music fan talking journeys, talking the latest hits on the charts, rising fast, that's all I can say right now. But stay on the look for all the latest Radcast guests. Indeed. Speaking of guests, our best guests always are surrounding me and Christina here in the room. And that's our friend at Brandon Bills. And our guests get some Brandon Bills. Yes. Yes, they do. We've been sending these out. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:33 They maybe send out more. I know. I don't think we're sending out enough. I think we need to do a promo for the gear and the books. The t-shirts are, we're lower on t-shirts than hats. Yeah. We need to get some of these hats out of here. Not because I want to get rid of them, because my closet's full of like every color. Starting point is 00:16:41 our friends at brandedbills.com I already gave away the best social holiday you. Our friends at BrandedBills.com. I already gave away the best social holiday. Maybe not the best, but the first one. Sure. Today's. Today's being photo day. World photo day.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Big deal. Big hashtag. I'm going to celebrate this with some vodka on Saturday. Not Mike's heart? Absolutely not. Read my lips. No. National Lemonade Day.
Starting point is 00:17:08 National Lemonade Day. Yeah. It's my dad's birthday, too. I'm a lemonade fan. Same. I grew up loving some lemonade. I used to do a little lemonade stand every summer inside my house. My kids do those.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Now it's turned into water and popsicles. Hey, kids made like $100 at our house. Oh, we did well back in the day. Yeah. I'm like, kids made like a hundred bucks at our house. Oh, we did. We did well back in the day. Yeah. I'm like, holy shit. I'm in the wrong field. We sell some popsicles.
Starting point is 00:17:30 We're being food and Bev, right? Not to my Nick. And then the 21st Sunday, National Spoo Money Day. Very good. I had to bring in my Italian heritage. I had no freaking clue what this was. I had to Google it too. I thought it was something a little funky. in a way it is but it's not dirty
Starting point is 00:17:49 It's ice cream It looks more like a meringue or something It's gelato technically It looks pretty nasty You showed that picture I'm kind of a texture guy with that kind of stuff It's ice cream with toppings in it It's just like Neapolitan.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Sunday, National Spumani Day. If you're in Brooklyn, you can get some. Anywhere else, SOL. Yeah. Well, on Monday, National Be an Angel Day. Do kind things. You're just an angel at all times. You don't even need a day for it.
Starting point is 00:18:21 No, thank you. Thank you. I just radiate light and good things. Yes. I'm going to get Nick some wings like that we eat. We'll call it angel. Angel wings. There you go.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Eat those things. Good idea. Yes, we're in. Have you seen the chicken wing ice cream? Have you seen those? No. Oh, it's very weird. We'll put a picture in.
Starting point is 00:18:43 National Cuban Sandwich Day. It's Tuesday. I'm going to forget this we talk about these social holidays and i forget to plug a couple of them in my phone totally but national cuban sandwich day i'd like to celebrate so anyone want to send me a cuban sandwich send it on there you go yeah if you're locally in greenville ideally we aren't shipping those unless uh i don't know that That could be some funky, funky smell. Yes. Send me a lemonade with a nice Cuban sandwich on Tuesday or Wednesday. With Spumoni as dessert.
Starting point is 00:19:14 August 23rd, National Cuban Sandwich Day. Don't forget all your favorite social holidays. And if there's one you'd like for us to mention, you know. Let us know. Let us know. Maybe we're missing it. Don't even know about it. We got some social media news. We do per usual. TikTok is fast becoming a key search and discovery platform for younger audiences. This was fascinating to me.
Starting point is 00:19:35 I agree. Could be a competitor for Google. Google's senior vice president said in our studies, something like almost 40% of young people, when you're looking for a place for lunch, like almost 40% of young people, when you're looking for a place for lunch, they don't go to Google. They go to Tik TOK or Instagram. Fascinating. I can't say that. I mean, I'm in social media a lot, either for my own things or for work. And I guess I search for people certainly, obviously profiles. See, Tik TOK is my go-to. So do you do this activity? I've not looked at like restaurants but i've done recipes if i'm cooking at home like such as my air fryer or whatever i go to tiktok for almost everything if i'm trying to figure out what i'm going to make you're like
Starting point is 00:20:15 looking up spoon or like exactly exactly exactly exactly i gave it away i was going to surprise the office and bring it in damn but yeah But yeah, way more than Google sugar and lemons and water and vodka. Yes. Yes. I, you know, it's really good. I'm getting really off track, but diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A it's, it's so good. I'll get better than regular lemonade. I don't know what it is. I don't know what they put in that stuff. It's that aspartame, man. It's the aspartame. It's good. No, that's my go-to. Yeah. So anyway.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Yeah, this is interesting. Very surprising. Not surprising, but surprising. Yeah. Curious. They, yeah, I just not, is it, use it as a search engine? Well, when I'm looking for a restaurant, I'll go on Apple Maps. Okay.
Starting point is 00:21:06 But I like the fact that you can see it visually and you don't have to read about it I think that might be a reason right like with if you google recipes in general you get a freaking blog yeah it's a whole blog and with TikTok I'm like oh it's three minutes and there you go I'm done I mean I know like YouTube has historically all it was owned by Google but like is a search engine of sorts for similar things. But obviously, TikTok rising in importance, as we've been telling you. Yeah. So it's only a matter of time before it leaks to the older audience like yours truly. And I start searching for things.
Starting point is 00:21:39 I mean, I have searched for content specifically, but not just like everyday stuff like they're saying. Like, you know, hard to know. We didn't grow up with it. That's right. Very good. There's a little ding for you, Nick. Like Pavlov's dog. For three years.
Starting point is 00:22:10 I like this. Yeah. Because, hey hey we do ads for a living apple finds this next next big business showing ads on your phone you know like i didn't know this was new necessarily i didn't either but i mean they've been all the anti-ad but that's the thing they've been kind of the anti-ad. Now it's brilliant to me. They're killing all the cookies. They're not allowing you to do any targeting because they're going to sell all the ads. There you go. $1,000 for a phone, still have ads. Apple's advertising efforts today consist of display ads inside of its news and stock apps,
Starting point is 00:22:42 as well as inside the App Store across the iPhone, iPad, and iMac. iPhone will eventually expand search ads to maps. It also will likely add them to digital storefronts like Apple Books and Apple Podcasts. And TV Plus could generate more advertising with multiple tiers, just like what Walt Disney and Netflix and others are starting to do. Streaming services, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:03 I mean, you know, this stuff's not free. So, you know, you get a lot of services and things kind of built in. Whether or not you pay for it when you buy the hardware, you can make that argument that the damn phones have gotten so expensive, but $1,200 a day. Laptops, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:18 You're still financing mine, but whatever. Yeah, I'm on the payment plan myself. Just because I'm like, oh, $1,200 out of pocket or $30 a month. Exactly. With an Apple credit card. Absolutely. Done and done.
Starting point is 00:23:29 No interest. All right. I'll take that. Take free money. I want that credit. Um, but you know, it'll be interesting.
Starting point is 00:23:38 I'll go at it from the podcast standpoint. Like, cause I'm, I'm familiar with that search engine cause we're in there a lot. Right. We're updating our stuff and looking at others and all that. Seeing ads above it. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:23:50 If I could run podcast ads on the podcast page to promote the show, I'm okay with that. I just don't really want to see like head and shoulders in there. Sure. Sure. Or like that one thing you do on the side. No, we're a studio of great hair. It's fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:07 It is interesting. Well, that's how you make money. Ad placements. Ad placements. They're not going away. Everybody thinks one day we'll not have ads. No. No, not true.
Starting point is 00:24:17 They'll be everywhere. You just won't know you're being advertised to. That's right. Such as PacSun collaborating with virtual influencer Mikayla for back to school ads have you seen Mikayla no I have not
Starting point is 00:24:29 I know who she is like do I know who that is yes I know who it is entirely CGI yeah fake which is yep she's totally
Starting point is 00:24:36 computer generated yes and she's now their back to school mascot PacSun wants to carve out a bigger stake in the metaverse and is turning to
Starting point is 00:24:44 one of the earliest examples of a virtual influencer to do so. Michaela, which went live on Instagram in 2016, has frequently grabbed headlines and stoked controversy for acting as a purely artificial brand ambassador and poster. You know, I'm all for innovation and it's just a little weird like I know there's it's totally disingenuous on some levels when you pay a real person
Starting point is 00:25:11 to promote your products sure if they don't actually use the product like the example we used earlier I was a Branded Bills fan they're now a sponsor of the show
Starting point is 00:25:21 right you know like okay there's some some level of authenticity. Yeah, credibility. And we believe in the brand. If you just create an unreal person, CGI, that's promoting the brand,
Starting point is 00:25:35 like, it's just completely lacks any authenticity to me. And it rides the line between, like, are you a mascot or are you an ambassador? Or an ad? Right. Just shock value. Or both. It doesn't make me want to buy a product if it's a computer generated woman selling it.
Starting point is 00:25:56 And look, with all this deep fake stuff that's coming, all this, I mean, it's like, how do we not pay actors? Well, let's just create our own influencer. Tell me about it. Yeah. Listen, that's my industry yeah sucks mcgillis kella's gonna be taking all your gigs you know she's not as funny as i am yeah you know she might be made to be as funny as you you could steal your
Starting point is 00:26:17 doesn't have the trauma doesn't have the trauma you can't fake the drama no you can't you know but i'll say this like go watch some of these specials on this stuff and it will freak you out where they go on with some of this some of the ai and like i you can't find innovation and there's certainly uses for some of it but like i don't know this world is moving quickly to being i don't know, this world is moving quickly to being, I don't know, not what we intended it to be. Right, right. And it will be very interesting to see the sustainability of it. Yeah. And how long this is going to last and if we're on the wrong side of it.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Yeah, we're going to fight back the robots. Exactly, right. You know, these influencers turn into soldiers, you know. You know, i don't know not a zombie apocalypse a robot apocalypse they can shoot up that metaverse just don't come to our universe exactly exactly stay over there the real verse you can keep earth too yeah tony the tiger is transforming into a great great very nice twitch or streamer twitch streamer excuse me streamer, excuse me.
Starting point is 00:27:26 The first of its kind partnership sees the Kellogg brand tapping into the growing VTuber trend on Twitch and follows other efforts that have taken the longstanding mascot to nascent digital platforms like TikTok. Kellogg's Frosted Flakes is updating its iconic Tony the Tiger mascot for a new generation by tapping into several emerging trends and channels. Twitch averages more than 31 million daily visitors. And is growing away for brands to engage with younger, digitally native consumers that are difficult to reach through traditional advertising. Yeah, they're not watching TV. They're watching TV, but they're watching Xbox. Right. Other gamers. My kids do this. They're watching TV, but they're watching Xbox.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Right. Other gamers. My kids do this. They watch other gamers game. Like that's. That's a thing, yeah. Or they're playing Fortnite or whatever, you know? Right. So it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:28:17 But is Tony the Tiger going to be a CGI? You know what I mean? Back to the previous article. It's like, but at least, but Tony the Tiger's been around for a long time. Well, right. He's a mascot. Exactly. He's a branded mascot.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Yeah. I don't know. Great. He's very cute, too, on the little games. Yes. But I will say, look, if you're marketing to a younger demographic, you need to be on Twitch. Yep.
Starting point is 00:28:43 You need to find influencers there. It's where kid, the kids are at. We, we say that about TikTok, but that's, but they are, they're watching.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I'm telling you, I got four of these in my focus group at home, uh, called the offered boys. So much money. They're, they're watching this stuff. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:02 And they're not watching terrestrial TV. Right. Uh, so we're linear TV. So you need to be there. That's where they're watching this stuff. Yeah. And they're not watching terrestrial TV. Right. So, or linear TV. So you need to be there. That's where they're at. But have a real influencer,
Starting point is 00:29:11 not a digital one. Yes. Like McKella. No AI. I love this next one so much. Miller High Life serves up dive bar inspired ice cream. I'm very food-work motivated. You had me at Miller High Life.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Like, it's one of my favorite all-time campaign records. The champagne of beer. That guy's voice is much more gravelly than mine. Does the scenarios that are kind of like semi-funny, comedic, but sort of serious. No, they've got solid ads. Yes. And now they've partnered with ice cream company Tipsy Scoop to produce a beer- ice cream bar. Miller High Life with the slogan Champagne of Beers has long positioned itself as a classy yet economical brand. The upscale ice cream pops play into that brand image by putting a decadent elaborate spin on a cheap treat. The ice cream has a higher ABV than actual Miller High Life. Isn't that insane? Yes. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:30:06 It better taste good. It has to taste good. It looks incredible. Like a beer. Beer flavors and ice cream is getting a little mix. I love the idea and the PR. I think it'd be almost like a rich flavor, though. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:19 All right. I'm digging. Keep going. Keep going. I'll order for the office. I'll bring it in. Yes. All right. I'm digging. Keep going. Keep going. I'll order for the office. I'll bring it in. Yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:30:26 You need to be the actress in the Miller High Life Popsicles. Listen, I could make that work. Yeah. Tipsy scoop. I do like that. I'd never heard of them. Right. I think they're in New York based.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Look, the champagne of beers. That's all you need to know here. Oh, that's a great tagline. Yes. It's always been great tagline. Yes. It's always been their tagline. I had a little phase in college where I drank nothing but High Life. I had a Bombay Sapphire phase and I had a Miller High Life phase.
Starting point is 00:30:56 I had a Bombay Sapphire phase. And you know what's funny is it is kind of like that classy economical, but like a lot of people kind of give me a little like funky look, kind of like I had like an OE or something, you know, like a 40. I'm like, you give me, this is the champagne of beers. I'm like, you were advertising for them well before. I do like a high life though. It does. It has a different flavor. It's a good for ice cream. Yeah. It's very rich and buttery. There it is. You like a High Life? Complex flavor profile.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Yes. Ah, there it is. Have you had a champagne and beers before? Yeah, I have High Life. Okay. It's not bad, right? Yeah, it's good. It's got a different flavor. It's good for the lake.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Yeah. Yeah. Nice ice cold. High Life. All right. Let's go after this. Light without being too light. There you go.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Hot Pockets. Leans into gaming community with a creator contest. Back to the gamers. Hot Pockets. Did y'all eat Hot Pockets. Leans into gaming community with a creator contest. Back to the gamers. Hot Pockets. Did y'all eat Hot Pockets? I love Hot Pockets. Y'all were Hot Pockets crew right here. You're the age group for that.
Starting point is 00:31:54 That was like a little after my mom's. My mom got Lean Pockets because they were branded as healthier and they were awful. Yeah. They had broccoli. Creators can enter the 120 contest by uploading a two-minute video to Twitter. I mean, how many different platforms do we have to upload something to? Jesus, right? Videos we're using the hashtag 120 contest.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Over the next year, 12 winners will be named, one per month, and will receive tech and gaming prizes. Hot Pocket has pledged over $100,000 to reward the winners, each of whom will become its brand ambassadors. Smart, smart. Its platform and contest is a clear nod to the evolving interest by brands to appeal to the gaming communities.
Starting point is 00:32:36 There's a lot of trends here in the news. It's all around gaming. Games and beer. Look, it is. My kids play every sport. they're not overly uh they're not desensitized and like playing video games all day every day but i can tell you when they're not gaming or playing real games outside or sports or whatever they want to be playing fortnite my brother's the same way so exact same way um it is what they're into but you know what
Starting point is 00:33:05 I think back Nintendo came out like when I was like nine or ten sure something like that when the dinosaurs
Starting point is 00:33:14 were still around when I wasn't I played basketball year round and like when I wasn't basketball and I was Mario and the shit out of that thing
Starting point is 00:33:20 yeah like you know like so what goes around comes around. It's not as, as new as it seems.
Starting point is 00:33:27 It's just the, I think the social component, the Twitch component of being able to watch others. I would have killed to be able to like, learn how to do something. I'd have to wait for like,
Starting point is 00:33:35 the magazine to come out with like, the Super Mario tricks. Like, I'd be like, oh God, I knew you had to do that. I would give my brother
Starting point is 00:33:41 my device. of like, four fireballs or something, you know? Oh, you punch him right in the balls and it works. Like, you know. But there's always some like magic way to beat the boss. Or the one kid that was good at it.
Starting point is 00:33:54 And so like I would give it to my brother and be like, you beat this level, I can't get past it. Help me. Like Glass Joe on Mike Tyson's Punch Out, who was so easy. And then you get to Hippo and you had to like punch him in the stomach when he was like throwing a punch and his shorts were
Starting point is 00:34:08 dropped down telling you that was when you peaked wasn't it no I actually was one of the first in my group to beat
Starting point is 00:34:16 Mike Tyson in my he was unstoppable but I learned the it's all about defense against Mike it wasn't the offense it was the defense
Starting point is 00:34:23 that's a real waiting to happen. I got something even crazier. I'm going to give you the secret code to get to Mike Tyson. I still remember it. Write this down next. 007-373-5963. That is the code you put in on Mike Tyson's punch out to go straight to Mike Tyson. I still remember it.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Wow. Go try it. Dare I say you just aged yourself a bit there? Mike Tyson's punch out. I still remember it. Wow. Go try it. Dare I say you just aged yourself a bit there? Mike Tyson's punch out. I still remember it. Same thing with Contra. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. That's how you get unlimited lives on Contra on the Nintendo.
Starting point is 00:34:58 You do the hokey pokey. You turn yourself around. That's what it's all about. Hey, there's some people closer to my age listening to this going, oh yeah. They know what I'm talking about. So Hot Pockets. Hey, it's the right way to do it. That's where they're at. Games and beer.
Starting point is 00:35:14 120. Speaking of beer. Yes. Pabst Blue Ribbon, or PBR, takes vacations back in time with 80s Motel. PBR, which is sold by the brewing company of the same name has partnered with a historic roadside motel motel not hotel to give vacationers an immersive experience in pbr themed rooms pbr's themed hotel rooms which the brand refers to as paps to the
Starting point is 00:35:37 place which sounds very weird aims to transport consumers back to the 80s the rooms are decked out with decor and appliances from the decade in an effort to give guests an experience that is indifferent to the passing of time. How do you feel about the 80s being so long ago? That now it's a trend and a vibe. You know, everybody likes the 80s, you know. Stranger things helped. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:02 No, but this is fun. I mean, how do you think of motels? It's kind of being a little creepy. I'm like, you know, like, I don't know if it's because like psycho back in the day, like the motel. There's a difference between the huh and the mm. Yeah. But there, you know, these one hour places or these full stay the night.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Big yikes. Let's be honest. Most of the motels are at least in this area there's one in Greenville
Starting point is 00:36:28 that's our league oh yes oh how would you know because I had friends in college who would film things and it was great because they could
Starting point is 00:36:34 use it yeah wink wink nudge nudge at Bob Jones University I knew it was a secret cult
Starting point is 00:36:40 for something oh it is there's no secret it's a cult and they could they could rent it out without having to pay exorbitant amounts. They witnessed some things. It makes sense for PBR.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Yes. I mean, I could see the, like, was it the tablecloth look, the plaid or whatever. Right. I don't know. I can totally see PBR. It's appropriate, especially the people that I know that are heavy PBR drinkers. On brand. Oners. On brand. On brand.
Starting point is 00:37:07 But you won't catch me dead in a motel. You're another high life guy. I'm a champagne and beers guy down at the Days Inn. Holiday Inn Express. Yeah. Fairfield Sweep. There you have advertising news.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Crisp little episode. Yeah, crisp episode. It was fun. A little blast to the past with Mike Tyson's punch out. You're going to use that code if you played Nintendo.
Starting point is 00:37:32 I'm telling you. You can't believe I actually remembered it. I am impressed. I can barely remember my social security number but I can remember that. That's how
Starting point is 00:37:40 I mean, but that's how it goes full cycle. It's like you want to bust on your kids I'm like I play video games totally knows like all their age when I was like their age yeah it's got a little
Starting point is 00:37:51 more realistic the more glass Joe's or yeah exactly final words from you Nicholas go grab a Miller High Life head to the lake get some ice cream yes or PBR let's Or a PBR. That's good too. PBR.
