Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. It's Friday, October 28th, 2022. Our weekly marketing, advertising, and business news of the week. Christina Yossi, welcome to the show. Thank you, thank you. Mr. Nick Weaver. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:00:21 Here we are. Yeah, welcome back to the Carolinas. I know, we talked pre-episode, welcome back to the Carolinas. I know. We talked pre-episode, still adjusting. That three hours makes a difference. Yeah, it's hard. It's hard. Adjusting the sleep patterns back.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Just long, just gone long, just long enough to both mess up my words and be a little off. What day is it? You both have asked me what day it is today. Yes. Just for point of reference. Well, we worked all weekend, which, you know, I'm not accustomed to, but a bit working all weekend away from home and at that level. In a different time zone. Different time zone.
Starting point is 00:00:58 So it was a great event. We had a good time. I appreciate Howie P, Howard Paynes for inviting us out to Think Billions. Repping the swag. Yeah, I've got the cap on today. And it was a great event. Really good people, really good, I don't know, vibe. Wouldn't you agree, Nick? Yeah, very inspirational, very informative. All the speakers were great. Yeah, we had a good time. We interviewed eight ish people, I think. Wow. I recall we had eight interviews. In three days. Yeah. We had a good time. We interviewed eight-ish people, I think.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Wow. I recall we had eight interviews. In three days, damn. I did a keynote and spoke on a couple panels and, you know, just dropping knowledge. There you go.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Drop it like it's hot. There it is. And we had a great time. So we really appreciate Alexa and I think consulting group and everyone involved. And so,
Starting point is 00:01:44 too many names to name, but we appreciate it and looking forward to future ventures. So it was good. What's not so good is Kanye. Think about losing billions, right? Yeah, losing billions. Pretty good. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Yeah, thinking. Not thinking. Forgetting. Forgetting billions. And maybe it's a master plan i don't know maybe he's smarter than all of us and he's just getting rid of all these brands so he could start afresh there's a there's one but sure i don't know i don't know if it's that thoughtful or not or just just the the madness of one man. Right. He closed his school down this week as well. Yeah. Due to controversy and who knows what else? Who knows?
Starting point is 00:02:34 Very odd. He was escorted off of the premise of Skechers. He just walked into the Skechers HQ. Did that really happen? Yeah. That's not just a rumor? No, I checked several different sites. CNN had something on it. New York Times. I thought not just a rumor? No, I checked several different sites. CNN had something on it, New York Times. I thought that was just like fake news or something.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Okay. Then, yeah. It's wild. That's what I said last week. Like, it's clearly something. Something's up. Something's off. Something's up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:57 But it's funny because I don't know if you know about the beef or the history between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. Yes, I am aware of that. So it is, it is funny that all of this is happening while she is breaking all of Spotify streaming records with her. I'm just going to say this album. Neither one of these people are my favorite.
Starting point is 00:03:16 I would, if Taylor, okay. So if Taylor Swift started a cult, I would join. That sounds, I am a dot. And I have been for over
Starting point is 00:03:25 a decade, which makes me feel so old to be able to say that. It's all I've listened to. I play Screaming Noises and Knows. I love it so much. No. I think she's full of shit. Really?
Starting point is 00:03:41 I do. Let's make something very clear. Just like Kanye, she's extremely talented. Okay. Extremely a pioneer. And very, very much not off her shit like Kanye. Right. I'm not putting her in the same camp.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Kanye's fucking crazy and a lot of shit he's doing is not right. Right. I wouldn't put Taylor in that group, but I just don't care for her. Sure. It's plasticky. Oh, I think she's brilliant, especially with marketing. I think that her marketing campaigns are brilliant. You don't think there's plastic people that are brilliant in marketing?
Starting point is 00:04:14 No, I do, but I think that she's got more depth than that. I think she's got more depth than a Kardashian. Maybe. I think she's Southern and smarter Southern and, uh, smarter, maybe than the Kardashians, but, um, she's not Southern.
Starting point is 00:04:29 It's just my opinion. You know, I know it's an unpopular one, but I tell it like I see it. The, uh, and she's super talented, like great writer,
Starting point is 00:04:37 amazing artist respect. I respect her. I could respect someone and still have an opinion about her. Sure. You know, um, I don't know. Not buying all, I could respect someone and still have an opinion about her. Sure. You know? I don't know. Not buying all, not picking up everything that's being thrown down there.
Starting point is 00:04:54 184.6 million streams. I'd pick that up. She's thinking billions. That's a lot of money. Oof. And incredibly successful. No doubt. Yeah. A bit of Radcast news.
Starting point is 00:05:04 If you missed this week's episode, Alexa D. Agostino, who's the founder of Think Consulting Group, who helped put on Think Billions, was on. She really told her story of entrepreneurism, the company she started and sold. I think she's had more exits than Elon Musk. I mean, it's crazy. She's been uber successful. She's running a really great marketing and consulting group. Really good episode. So you should check that out if you didn't.
Starting point is 00:05:28 That came out this past Tuesday. The next week, Matt Alonzo, filmmaker, and I would say music videos to the stars. For the stars. He's done a million of big artists from Bieber to every other rapper that seems to be hot now. He's done music videos for and was really enlightening. He was not exactly what I expected. You know, it was he's a California guy, a little right leaning. It was fascinating.
Starting point is 00:06:00 And his growth and kind of process really lives by that mantra. I think this this true that's that I talk about all the time is certainly don't give things away, but you lean into opportunities for borrowed interests where, hey, maybe you do a music video for Bieber and don't get paid top money, but you understand the association that that brings and what that leads to.
Starting point is 00:06:21 So smart guy, super talented. His work's amazing. So I really enjoyed talking to Matt Alonzo. That releases next Tuesday. We've got a lot of episodes and a lot of content from Think Billions events that will be coming out. We're kind of parsing that away for how that's going to be distributed
Starting point is 00:06:38 on the Radcast channel. So be on the lookout for that. And we've got some big names that I can't quite name yet, but let's just say it's, it's heating up and you know, there's a theme song I would play that we'll, maybe we'll play next week. So some big stuff coming.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Yeah. On the rad cast, the speaking of big things, it's always big things with our sponsor branded bills, branded bills.com official merchandise sponsor of the Radcast. Always surrounded by merch here in the studio. Got some custom hoodies coming for the Radcast here any week. Yes, any day now.
Starting point is 00:07:17 I was a little chilly this morning wishing I had one. This is the first time I've ever seen you not wearing a Branded Bills hat. I know. In my life. So that should tell you. Howard, if you're listening to this episode, you should know. And it's not a flat bill. I don't even know what to do.
Starting point is 00:07:31 I know. I've got the curved bill. Think Billions hat on. Who are you? You're my boss. I know, right? Here it is. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I mean, I'm usually more of a flat bill guy. Does this make my head look weird? No, they both look good. But flat bill definitely feels more like your brand. Yeah. Does this make my head look weird? No, they both look good, but flat bill definitely feels more like your brand. I'm a curve bill person. I feel like I got that
Starting point is 00:07:53 who's the curve bill country music guy with wear sunglasses? Eric Church. All of them? Oh. Ding. So true. But I think of Eric Church with the sunglasses. I do love Eric Church
Starting point is 00:08:05 I do love Eric Church but yes so branded bills go check them out Radcast 20 20% off your entire purchase

Got a few social media holidays. We do. Today is National Chocolate Day. And I'm sad that that's not on Halloween.
Starting point is 00:08:52 But, you know, I'll always celebrate chocolate. I like chocolate. Especially milk chocolate. Okay, I'm a dark chocolate person. I don't discriminate though. I will eat any of it. Milk chocolate, me, jive, especially it's got peanut butter and it's called a reese's the best but the best yes i don't know but good chocolate bars
Starting point is 00:09:11 it's pretty good like i used to think like frou-frou like milk chocolate was no good like you know it's fancy bars yeah i think my tastes have really evolved because i had one and i don't even remember the name of it it was like some some kind of Swiss milk chocolate. Damn, that shit was good. I was like melting into the seat, you know, like I felt myself. An out of body experience. And I'm not, as much as I talk about food, I really don't like crave sweets as much as I do like chips and salsa or something. But like, damn, it is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Chocolate's like its own, it is pretty good. Chocolate's like its own category though. I know. You know, if I really didn't have to like watch my girlish figure sometimes, I would just eat chocolate all day. Listen, same, same. All six, five, two 60, you know, those pounds can get added up. Oh, you know. So good though.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Takes work to look as big as I do. And money, working money. Yes. But yeah, happy National Chocolate Day. Yes. All day. Celebrate. Saturday.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Saturday, not Friday. Saturday. Yeah. Hermit Day. National Hermit Day. What the, is this like a hermit crab or is this like a- No, this is like, you know, like the old man. Hermit? Great, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:29 All right, okay. There's a few of those hanging out around the building sometimes. So like maybe we need to give them a- Give them a little balloon. Give them free coffee. This is what's confusing though. If it's National Hermit Day and you are a hermit, do you want to be celebrated or do you want to be ignored? Yeah, because don't hermits like not want attention? That's what they are. Exactly. hermit day and you are a hermit do you want to be celebrated or do you want to be ignored yeah
Starting point is 00:10:45 because don't hermits like not want attention that's what they are exactly you know exactly so it's a curious a curious holiday it is quite curious like i forget it so i thought maybe it was hermit crab you know what is the actual definition of hermit the most useless animal of all time hermit crab why the hell do people have hermit? The most useless animal of all time. Hermit crab. Why the hell do people have hermit crabs as pets? Oh, wait, this is fascinating. So that the definition of hermit is a person living in solitude as a religious discipline. So there's the religious element to it.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I didn't realize that. But they want to be in solitude. But yeah, we have a social. They're like monks. Social holiday for someone living in solitude. Right. Do you have, so it's not you know you're not a luddite like you still have social media how curious i'm gonna go break some hermits
Starting point is 00:11:30 right out of solitude you know no solitude for you happy hermit day sorry to draw attention to you yes let's bust that shit right up um sunday sunday's my favorite. Yes. National checklist day. I'm a big checklist person. You are. I am. I'm sort of really. I always have a notebook I've got on my phone. It is. I will make a checklist and the first thing will be make a checklist just so I can. I write stuff down, but I don't know that I'm a checklist. I love it. It's like the most satisfying thing. I email myself or text myself reminders. Sure. When I use Siri reminders, that's my way of remembering things.
Starting point is 00:12:10 And I think I'm, I think generally speaking, I'm good at remembering the things I need to be where I need to be. Other than the podcast today. You made it. It's fine. We're here. But checklist that I like, i don't know i love it so much and it's great because i i keep i'm a hoarder i keep all of my notebooks so i have like all of my checklists from college you really are secretly a 70 year old i'm just like lady weird yeah pretty much uh-huh uh-huh yes in a 27 year old's body yes yes i am
Starting point is 00:12:47 yes while also being like a 14 year old boy it just doesn't make any sense don't homeschool your kids that's all i have to say is that where it comes from probably yeah i think i was just like i just read too many books too young maybe maybe who knows yeah you fed your mind with too many things too many things too many ideas and this is a small one on monday uh halloween halloween it's hallow weekend do you celebrate halloween do your kids dress up are you doing anything fun does howdy doody have wooden balls i couldn't answer that he He does. It was a wooden cartoon. So what are your, what are your,
Starting point is 00:13:26 what are your kids dressing up as? You know, I think, yeah, like I had to think about it because they've had their, I think Hogan is like a robot costume and Nash is a firefighter
Starting point is 00:13:41 or something else. Like we, Nicole is a planner. I mean else. Like, Nicole is a planner. I love it. Do you and Nicole dress up? We have. It's a Monday night, though. I know. Halloween weekend. So we have before,
Starting point is 00:13:55 and we might, last minute, we have some things we could make happen. But the boys have had their Halloween costumes since, like, August. I love it so much. That's why I had to think about it because it's – You're like, I've not seen them in a while.
Starting point is 00:14:09 I haven't seen them in two months. But yes. Nice. So Halloween – Mondays kind of suck for Halloween. I have rehearsal. I'm so annoyed about it. I'm going to wear my inflatable sloth costume anyway, though.
Starting point is 00:14:21 I have like an eight-foot inflatable sloth. Yeah, because kids get all jacked up and they gotta go to school the next day it's like i don't know barely enjoy it but they should they should like have it on a i don't know saturday night friday night yeah and a lot of like the the downtown parties are happening on the 29th yeah you are you a you seem like a halloween dress-up i love it you're in theater right and because of that i have had a rehearsal on halloween i think since i was 19 yeah like i have always had rehearsal so i've not had like a fun celebrate halloween i'm in a theater so
Starting point is 00:15:01 typically there are costumes involved but i still love it you're like a go-to or you change it up depending on um i have some like i have my sloth which is a go-to nice and easy i've been a pirate several times a witch is always easy just let my natural essence come through mary poppins i okay so i want to do mary poppins and bird with my boyfriend but we couldn't i'm dying apparently i'm just losing my voice. Um, but I have BB eight, like from star Wars.
Starting point is 00:15:28 I have a little like BB eight dress with a headband, which is cute. That's cute. Um, I have BB eight tattoo. That's how much I love BB eight. Oh my God. And you're like,
Starting point is 00:15:38 what is with this girl? But the best thing about Halloween is the next day, all of the candies on sale. It's like half off. Loaded here first. Very good. Little tip. I do know that.
Starting point is 00:15:50 I was hoping it was Easter and everything else, right? Celebrate All Saints Day with discount candy. Yes. All Saints Day is Tuesday. Yes. Yeah. It's a big Catholic holiday. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:00 And then, yeah, No Shave November. I mean, that just shows your branding right there that it's become that. It even made our list, you know. I had to put it in there. It got pretty big, yeah, no shave November. I mean, that just shows your braining right there that it's become that. It even made our list. I had to put it in there. It got pretty big, yeah. No shave. It's for like what prostate cancer awareness? And it's a man problem.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I will say the mustache thing, you know, I might not shave my entire beard, but the whole mustache, I don't know. I feel like you have to at least trim, you know, just like general upkeep. Yeah. I will not be participating. That's where my feminism stops. Nick, you getting dressed up for Halloween? It depends on if I go to the Halloween party or not. What would you be if you were to dress up?
Starting point is 00:16:40 Probably Michael Jackson. It took him a long time to think about that yeah uh christmas music what's this uh yeah it's a little controversial question yeah when are you a christmas music person before or after thanksgiving or do you care uh i don't know that I care. Sure. It, it never ones a little early.
Starting point is 00:17:07 I think November 15th is fine. Okay. Fair. It doesn't have to actually be November 27th or whatever, but number 15 sounds about right. I can do, we can do 40 days of, of,
Starting point is 00:17:17 of, of Christmas music. You know, it does. I will say it doesn't quite seem like Christmas time-ish yet. This is the- And there's still time. I'm sure it's two months.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I guess it's two months away. Yeah, 60 days. Yeah, I don't know. Just, I feel like it's just been, it hasn't been super cold. I guess I'm just not in that mode yet. Do you listen to crazy music early? Start after Thanksgiving. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:43 I think working in retail for so many years. I mean, it's just as soon as Halloween's over. Before Halloween's over, really. You're prepping for Christmas. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 00:17:55 We'll see. I don't know. That'd be a good poll question out there. There it is. Christmas music before or after Thanksgiving. You know, or does it matter?
Starting point is 00:18:04 I don't know. Controversial. Or does it matter? It does start to wear out a little bit. Some of those channels that play it all the time. I have to stagger it. This is what I listen to for this period and then this is the real Christmas music and phase myself out of it. Yes. Get all your music
Starting point is 00:18:22 trends, all your music Christmas holiday favorites on your playlist. There you go. Taylor Swift. Got some social media news, huh? Yes. And by the time people are listening to this,
Starting point is 00:18:32 we may have a different outcome, but it's Elon Musk. So you never really know what's going on, but he is supposed to close his Twitter deal today. It was hilarious. Uh, before we came in, I looked at his,
Starting point is 00:18:44 uh, Twitter with the sink uh well his title is like king twit or something he's just such a piece of work and then he was carrying a sink in he's like uh let this sink in yeah carry the sink into headquarters like literally i mean it's such a great god it's ridiculous eccentric what's happening and funny and brilliant i'm all i'm i am both like sad and happy that he's not an american citizen and can't run for president right yeah you probably get elected probably listen any listen yeah if certain people can make it listen you know and i mean i'm just saying in general like good bad or ugly like it's
Starting point is 00:19:26 like if i think anyone with the right formula can get elected you know i would agree and i think he probably's got it smart enough to uh do it and he might be the right person i mean for a business thing i mean i don't know yeah it's like he might have some brilliant ideas with government you probably try to throw the whole thing out. Probably. Oh God. Which I'm not so sure, some days isn't the right way to do it,
Starting point is 00:19:50 but throw the baby out with the bathwater. Start over. I know. This next one is fun. Yeah. Instagram is testing a new option, which would enable you to have a song on your profile. There aren't a ton of details.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Like Instagram hasn't had a, made a big public statement about it, but they're workshopping whether or not it'll start playing as soon as you go to somebody's profile, what that looks like. Um, I'm going to make, I'm going to back up for one second. I want to make one marketing comment on Twitter. So this is actually pretty fascinating. I would do this as soon as I enable it with Instagram, but look, here's what's going on. I have no idea if this is going to be a bomb, if it's going to fail. Even Musk knows that it's a risk and he had to have every answer.
Starting point is 00:20:35 But right now, if you're a marketer and it makes sense, if it at any time has made sense for you to be marketing on Twitter's platform. Now's the time to be on there because there's so much media attention. You're getting not only the natural viewers and people that are on there, but you have all this other microscope on it. So keep that in mind that this it could be the right time to shift some dollars to test on Twitter for marketing because you've got even outside of the normal audience, extra audience that are going to be watching to see what Musk does. So I think you might get some added value or even just be able to make your dollars go further
Starting point is 00:21:17 with how you kind of, I don't know, manipulate that or work through that. So one thing to keep in mind. I've never been a huge Twitter ad guy, but if there was a time I would test it, it'd be now. That's a good piece of advice. But I do like this Instagram,
Starting point is 00:21:32 you know, it's personalization and, you know, it makes sense to me. You could have one on your Tinder profile. You could have a song, which was always interesting. I had Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Starting point is 00:21:46 beetles and everyone was like let's get high and i was like i'm good thanks appreciate it let's do some gummies right never again never again uh cbd gummies for you. I've been burned once. Yes. I couldn't even do Delta 8. God. Terrible.
Starting point is 00:22:07 So that's a real thing, right? What song would you have? I would put, we're working on a new custom radcast. Oh, you'd have a theme song. Maybe I'd have my radcast theme song. It's branding. If you couldn't do your own branding, what song would you do? Kanye's.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Jesus is King. I think I'd stay with kanye for a little while even though i do still use his song like couple is like you can't not him rapping but like the instrumental stuff totally on some things uh which i might back off now i just don't really want you know yeah it's like it's just not worth it right now yeah it's just not worth it um i think everyone should have rights to do what they need to do but it doesn't mean that i agree with everything and so um it would definitely be uh i don't know i gotta think about that yeah i think like mine would change frequently it would change i think it'd be weekly.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Yeah. Be like, what am I feeling? I probably have like Cadillac three, Jaron Johnson. Yeah, man. Like I really liked their music.
Starting point is 00:23:13 That's kind of like an everyday playlist for me. So something like, something like that. And then probably some rap song of the week. And then I've been really digging like Alenium lately and all of that. Yeah. And he does this incredible remixes on some of my like favorite songs. I probably have like something like that.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Might even change by the day, like in the morning when I'm working out. Like, yeah. And then, you know, at lunchtime, it's kind of like three. By the nighttime, it's, I don't know, sleepy time. Post Malone bumping. Yeah. I love that too. Sleepy time. Yeah. Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:50 That post-malone would make the cut multiple times. Totally. So we'll see. What about you? Um, Taylor Swift, something. I don't know if it may,
Starting point is 00:23:57 maybe, I don't know. That's a little too, like pretty much as I love her. I don't know. That's no, probably something Mumford and sons honestly that's one of my other like most consistently listened to bands which again very stereotypical um or musical theater i'm sure i'd have some kind of like musical going on yeah at some point i had
Starting point is 00:24:20 a weird dream that involved a band that sounded like Mumford & Sons last night. It's so funny you said that. It's a sign. This is weird. I read a tweet that said Mumford & Sons sounds like all of the pastries at Starbucks wearing suspenders. Which I thought was very funny. It's pretty funny. You're going to hear some Mumford & Sons at Starbucks and a lot of other random music of the world.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Or Frankie Valli or Billy Joel. I would do one of them too. Or like some random African like dance song or something. Something global. No, global. It's like global music that like I don't get but appreciate. It appeals to someone. But I'm like, I have no idea what this is, but you know. Nicholas, your song.
Starting point is 00:25:04 I might have some Van Halen, some E. There it is. Classic rock. I knew it. Steve Miller band. Yeah, Steve Miller band. You know what? I might just make it.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Good story. So Fall for Greenville was a couple weeks ago, and the boys sold water. They made like $200, $300. Smart. Water's out in front of our house because everybody walks by our house. And I had music playing there for them.
Starting point is 00:25:32 I was controlling the music and I had the speaker behind them so people would walk by and stuff. And I played Pink Floyd Money over and over again. You know it's the cash register sound at the beginning? Yep. So good. So it got their attention. Floyd Money over and over again. You know it's the cash register sound at the beginning? Every time someone won't buy it, restart the song.
Starting point is 00:25:47 So good. So that got their attention. So I might put that on my Instagram. There you go. Yeah. Money! Yeah, Pink Floyd's good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:56 Does it start playing when you enter the person's profile? That's, we don't know yet. That's what they're kind of trying to figure out. That rat cash register song? Do you remember the profile song when Facebook first came out? Yes. Bringing it back.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Yes, exactly. I like it. Personalization, branding, branding opportunities. If you're an artist, great chance. Put your music there. If it autoplays, I don't know how that'll plays yeah music is also it's so social like it's such an easy way to start a conversation or know if you don't want to start a conversation with somebody um i think it's a very cool piece of social media i can
Starting point is 00:26:37 already see you uh you know x-naying you know whoever doesn't have a song you like or like if they have they're playing kanye might be like are we gonna have much to agree on yes probably not but i don't know that anyone with the right mind is agreeing with some of the shit yeah yeah for sure it might be fairly universal you know i'm just gonna don't have a lot of room for hate um the uh oscar meyer i thought this was fun giving away this is so good what are the details here yeah so the ironic campaign follows research by the brand that found that 53 percent of vegans i am one of these people leave their diets in pursuit of bacon and this is the latest example of um the marketer leaning into like a humorous ad campaign? Man, I like this on a lot of levels. You know, I love bacon so much.
Starting point is 00:27:30 You know, I think I dislike vegans as much as I like bacon. I'm kidding. I'm joking. I really don't care what people eat. But it's more like when I meet a vegan, we just start on such opposite paths. Like, you know, I'm a carnivore, bacon eating, son of a bee. You know, not really.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Love you, mom. But like, all in context here. And then meeting someone that immediately we start right off the bat with being complete opposites on what we eat. It's just a little getting off on the wrong foot. So it's less, and I don't even judge them for it. I can care less what anybody eats. But typically it,
Starting point is 00:28:14 the planes with which we reside on are very different. I was vegan for like a year for like health stuff. I was like, I was like just trying it. And I made it a year and I was like, I was like just trying it and I made it a year. Made it a year. And I was like, I can't.
Starting point is 00:28:29 It was also like the most unhealthy I've ever been because Oreos are vegan. I like the Mediterranean diet. That sounds, you know, like that's the best thing for you. You get,
Starting point is 00:28:37 you can eat meat on that. Yep. You know, fish and all kinds of stuff. But that makes sense to me. Yeah. But just going pure, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Also, there's something in, like my dad read some article because he's a big health guy. There's something in like bacon grease that's really, like it's a different kind of protein.
Starting point is 00:28:55 I don't know. But it's supposed to be really good for you. So my dad was like, I'm not bathing in it. Oh, there you go. Good for you. Forget coconut oil.
Starting point is 00:29:02 It's bacon grease. You know, like, I mean, it's just like, yeah. You know, you're eating it and it's bacon grease you know like i mean it's just like yeah you know you're eating it it's like slathers on you know you know like so good like they're popping like everything is in the cold one of us and it's usually nicole she's up i mean we're both up at the same time but she's like up and functional right she's usually frying the bacon i usually make the pancakes. The boys get bacon and pancakes on Saturdays usually.
Starting point is 00:29:27 I love it. And so the house smells like bacon all day. It's so good. It's a lovely aroma. So good. Nothing like it. I will say this. From a marketing standpoint, it's brilliant because, look, it just makes so much sense. It leans right into the contrary of what it is.
Starting point is 00:29:42 And they've like pixeled out the bacon on the ad to make it look like it's, you know, like a nude almost. It's very funny. Yes. Very smart. Very smart marketing. Sticking with our,
Starting point is 00:29:52 our meat theme, um, McDonald's double dips on nostalgia with a farewell tour for the McRib. You McRib guy? Double dip the chip. For those Seinfeld fans out there, don't double dip the chip. I always hear,
Starting point is 00:30:04 I mean, there's certain things from Seinfeld that are so iconic. You don't even know they're from Seinfeld fans out there. Don't double the chip. I always hear, I mean, there's certain things from Seinfeld that are so iconic. You don't even know they're from Seinfeld. It's so iconic. But, uh, yeah, I,
Starting point is 00:30:11 I never liked the McRib though. I've never had one. Yeah. There's some people that love that shit. I just don't know if I'm a grip guy. I mean, I appreciate the, uh,
Starting point is 00:30:22 the nostalgia of it all. It's been around forever, but, uh, are they really, uh, going away with it forever? Or is it just like the temporary farewell? Listen, after the Twinkie ordeal, I don't ever trust a brand that says they're retiring a product. Twinkie dead or whatever.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Right, and then they brought it back. The planner's peanut died. Right, yeah, exactly. But they have a shop online, and they've got items priced as low as 99 cents available. 99 cents is pretty cheap for a McRib sandwich. Like a dollar money. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I don't know what goes in that McRib. I'm not sure about that. You know? Who knows? Who knows? Yeah, McDonald's. Yeah, I can't. Mystery meat.
Starting point is 00:31:01 That's good. Yeah. Big mystery. Yeah. You know, look, McDonald's marketing is always good they're always like leaning into something and it's one of the biggest brands iconic brands in the world uh so who's who's to tell them what to do but what's interesting about some of the choices with these fast food chains and the way that they're marketing is like when i was a kid you know which 10 12 whatever many years ago it was like fast food still felt so new and like they were trying to be so groundbreaking and i think it's so interesting and i love that now
Starting point is 00:31:35 it's all play on nostalgia and like back to the 90s back to the 80s which i think is just a very you know they need to bring the damn characters back, though. Where's the Hamburglar? Right. I mean, are we really so politically correct that we don't have the Hamburglar? What was the purple one? What was the purple one? Yeah, like the, I don't know, blob, whatever he was. All that's coming is Gumby.
Starting point is 00:31:55 You know, and then Ronald McDonald, is he like, you know, is it because of- Everyone's scared of clowns. Who knows? Is that the scary, is that why? Is there something creepier? Birdie the early bird. Yeah, like where are those characters coming back characters coming back those guys they're creepy the hamburger is creepy
Starting point is 00:32:11 you know the hamburger is calming to you yeah it's fun they should bring them back though i mean like jack in the box has the jack i really hope this is not a politically correct thing. I don't think it is. Like the Hamburglar. Oh, he's stealing burgers. No. How could you have that? This is a bad example. You know someone says that.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Someone's saying that. Probably. Bad example for children that he's stealing burgers. But I don't think that's why they're not. I'm like frantically Googling things. Yeah. I mean, there aren't a lot of mascot you know characters now they just like got a little bit
Starting point is 00:32:48 overdone maybe a little bit creepy like turkey cheese same thing Kool-Aid man yeah you don't see that either oh that was good he bust through the brick wall yes yes that was great iconic
Starting point is 00:33:03 busting oh yeah these budgets I have no idea but that is funny you don't you don't see he just breaks through the brick wall he's the kool-aid guy what the hell that was supposed to signify but he he come busted every time no rhyme or reason to it but my god and you remember i haven't seen that commercial in 20 years i remember it maybe because i'm in marketing or just weird i don't know it's because it's good marketing yeah that's what it is but it is interesting it's kind of like uh it's a super macho man savage kind of the same thing uh next one everything again it's always food related um oreo sins which is a whole other conversation but they've partnered with Microsoft 365
Starting point is 00:33:46 to encourage workers to take a snack break. This is fun. Consumers can visit a designated landing page to receive a ThinVite in their inbox that will block off 2 to 2.15 p.m. Eastern time on the calendars from November 1st through the 3rd for a snack break. And then it links to a Microsoft Teams event,
Starting point is 00:34:06 which you can watch a video of a puppy while you eat your Oreo things. Puppies and kids. Babies and puppies. I like this play, but let me just say this. Oreo's got it covered on all angles here, because now
Starting point is 00:34:21 you can buy those ultimate Oreos that are literally four inches. It's four inches it's all mega stuff now i got the thins which is a mistake i need more uh more cream filling than the thins got you know like the ultimate might be a little much right the double stuff is where it's at yeah perfect ratio yeah double stuff is Yeah, double stuffs are good. Without the cookies. Ayo. An entendre. I like the golden Oreos. Yes, yes. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Thank you very much. That's the elite cookie. It's unpopular opinion. Maybe I really do like sweets, but I just stay away from them so I don't get fat. Yeah, that's probably what it is. Maybe that's what it is. I think I've just made myself, told myself I don't like them. But then every dessert we talk about, I'm't get fat. Yeah, that's probably what it is. You know? Maybe that's what, I think I've just made myself, told myself I don't like them.
Starting point is 00:35:07 But then every dessert we talk about, I'm like, okay, I kind of do like that. I do like those. But I keep them away. And no one has more willpower than me because if you come into my house with four kids, do you know how many different freaking snacks there are in our cabinet?
Starting point is 00:35:21 Like, I have the greatest willpower ever. Now, I might have a few M&Ms at night, but like, but I bypassed like 47 other like carb options. No, no. I like living alone. Like it was, I learned very quickly.
Starting point is 00:35:34 I was like, oh, like I just can't have this. Right. And then you realize like, I'm the only person who's eating it too. It's like, who, where did they go?
Starting point is 00:35:41 And then I'm like, oh no. Yeah. You buy it. It's there. You're going to eat it. I have to bypass it. And it's there.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Right. In my physical presence. Couldn't do it. Yes. Couldn't do it. I mean, this is a cool crossover. I,
Starting point is 00:35:54 um, it seems like a little bit of a reach, but you know what? It's cute. It's cute. The invite. Yeah. Two to two.
Starting point is 00:36:02 I get it. Watch a puppy. Yeah. We did a campaign.'re uh a car dealer where we're like we could tell you all about cars instead we're just going to show you these puppies and they crushed it it like we showed puppies playing that's so good and listen got the click-through rate was like the highest i highest I ever got. That's so good. I love that. We could try to give you a generic car dealer ad, but instead we're just going to show you this 10 second video of puppets playing.
Starting point is 00:36:32 And I would have remembered the car too. And it was like this puppy stumbling around, like going down slides and like, it was cute. And the click-through rate was ridiculous. I love it. So puppies and babies work. Always. Last article of the day, Coca-Cola, this is good news,
Starting point is 00:36:48 significantly ups marketing spend in preparation for a dynamic 2023. I can't believe we're near the end of 2022. Having significantly stepped up its consumer-facing marketing investments over the last three months, the drinks giant claims it has already seen this spend pay off in brands such as Sprite, which is now a $1 billion brand. Sprite alone is a $1 billion brand. Ding, ding, ding.
Starting point is 00:37:12 Somebody gets it. Yeah. One of the biggest brands in the world. Everybody's cutting back. They're spending more and they're getting ROI. Now it helps that they have a product that might be somewhat recession proof. But at the same time, they're leveraging the pullback to get, that means they break through more. Everyone else pulls back. You break through more,
Starting point is 00:37:37 get it. And Coca-Cola is a, I mean, they're, they are, they're, they are icons, icons. I can't talk either. You're passing it on to me. Um, but did you know that the very first time Santa Claus was ever seen in a red suit was on a Coca-Cola billboard? That sounds right. I think I did. Isn't that wild? Yes, it is wild. And I have not heard that fact in a long time, but I do recall that. Because the first image, you know, right. And a night before Christmas, that poem is obviously what gave us the iconic image. But never, not once in that poem does it mention anything about a red suit. and it was Coca-Cola that did that with their colors. And now that's all you ever see him in, which is fascinating.
Starting point is 00:38:11 That is fascinating. And what's really fascinating is Coca-Cola smart. They're look, significantly stepped it up. Look, next year is going to be weird. And I don't think it's like just spin willy-nilly. Like just, oh, yeah, spin more. I'm not saying that. But there's going to be some real opportunities for brands to break through because there's going to be pullback.
Starting point is 00:38:37 And I think there's going to be some value positioning for brands that may not always have the opportunity to stand out. I think there's going to be some deals in media and I think those that are bold will win. Yeah. It's, it's just the way it goes. And, you know, it's going to be interesting for, for some luxury brands on some levels, but I think if I'd be thinking about positioning secondary products, different things like that. Um lot of these companies have sub-brands, different brands now. So, like, layering that stuff on. But I think Coke's been really smart this year with their marketing.
Starting point is 00:39:13 I didn't really love the new campaign, like, something magic. I don't know. It was a little frou-frou. But I think the tactics have been better than maybe the overarching campaign, my opinion. You know, we've all got one. Sure. But just like you said, I couldn't believe that just Bright Aloud was worth a billion. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:34 That's incredible. I had to double check that. Which I guess makes sense, but damn. Yeah. You know? I can't imagine being a brand and having like one facet of my brand being a billion dollars. I didn't really like the Coke energy. It went by the wayside like I said it would.
Starting point is 00:39:51 About a year and a half ago it came out and I said, you're going to watch this from being on middle shelf eye view to the Bobo shelf on lane four. And sure enough, it's on every value. I think I saw it at the dollar store the other day next to the Coke coffee. And yeah, so they do just need you to buy like freaking bang or like one of the established names. Like, I think they may have already been bought by Pepsi,
Starting point is 00:40:19 but one of the, and I think that's where they need to go instead of trying to make Coke. I don't know. They'll cross the brands, keep it separate. But yes, I think that's where they need to go instead of trying to make Coke. I don't know. They'll cross the brands. Keep it separate. But yes, I think that's all we got. That's all we got for today. Our last podcast of October.
