The hardest part of ending is starting again.
You're listening to The Radcast. If it's radical, we cover it. Here's your host, Ryan Alford.
Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of The Radcast. It's Friday,
of the Radcast. It's Friday, September 23rd, 2022. Our weekly marketing, advertising, and business news of the week. Welcome to the first day of fall for Shani Yossi.
Yes, I'm very excited. It's my season. It's Libra season. My birthday's coming up. White
girl fall. Pumpkin spice everything.
The season of Christina. I thought I was going to get kind of a rhyme there.
Chris season.
I get the attempt.
I'm tracking with.
Libra.
What is a Libra?
Like what.
The image.
It's the scales.
No, I know that.
No, but what's.
Give me like the, you know, I'm Taurus bull, a little stubborn.
I know those.
Incredibly indecisive.
Hmm.
But also very fair.
Indecisive. Libra. also very fair. Indecisive.
Yes.
Libra, so it's just starting?
Starts with fall.
Yes, today.
Okay.
All right.
September 23rd through October 22nd, I think.
So if indecisive is kind of like not a great quality, what's the best quality of a Libra?
I'm very diplomatic and quite charming, I've been told.
Read my lips.
No.
I don't know what that means.
I'm a delight.
I'm a delight.
I'm kidding.
Sort of.
Taurus has also been known for telling lies.
Just kidding.
There it is.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I don't get into the planetary things too much. It's interesting. I do think there's some truth to is. Yeah. I don't know. I don't get into the planetary things
too much. It's interesting. I do think
there's some truth to it. Sure.
But I don't know if we make them truth or they really are.
Yeah. I would say I don't buy into it.
Hook, line, and sinker.
Just hook and line? Just hook and line.
You're bobbing on top of the water.
But you're in the water. I'm in the water. I'm holding on to something.
I'm just not sinking yet.
Yes. Yeah. So happy fall y'all. There it is. Coming from South Carolina. You're going to hear that in the water i'm in the water i'm holding on to something i'm just not sinking yet yes yeah so
happy fall y'all there it is coming from south carolina you're gonna hear that and see that
it was so cute when it first happened i first saw it's kind of cute right and now i'm kind of like
hate it yeah all right door hanger central i think it's on i think nicole has it on one of
one of our door hangers we have door door hangers on the front of our house.
I'm sure.
I mean, Nicole's out with...
We have more pumpkin design.
She has a...
Her and my mother are very much alike.
Design for every season.
They say you marry your parents.
I mean, you know, literally, like, pumpkins everywhere.
What's her favorite season?
Like, Halloween or Christmas?
I'm beginning to think it's fall by the volume of decorations.
There you go.
I don't know.
I think she likes it.
I think we like fall because we're football people and Clemson people and tailgating and all that stuff.
It's a fun time.
It's a good season.
So, yes, it's been a good week here at the agency.
Yes.
And you had a good week? I have. I've been very busy. Yeah, you's been a good week here at the agency. Yes. And you had a good week?
I have.
I've been very busy.
Yeah, yeah.
Very tired.
Yeah.
How's doing any comedy recently?
I did.
I was actually in Asheville last night.
Drove up there.
How'd that go?
It was great.
Okay.
It was great.
I wasn't sure how.
For anyone listening, Christina Yossi, if you're going to get on the road and see some comedy.
Yes, there you go.
I'll be in Rock Hill October 21st.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
How long is your set?
My full set is about 15 minutes.
Okay.
I'll be doing 10 in Rock Hill, give or take.
How did, was it good response last night?
Yeah, I did like material I wrote two years ago.
And there's a lot of it like that's about Bob Jones.
So I wanted to see how that would perform.
Not in Greenville.
Yeah.
Did people get it? Yeah. In Asheville, yeah.
Did people get it?
Yeah, they weren't familiar with it, or if they were, they didn't respond
when I said the name of the school.
But they understood it was a Christian,
highly conservative school.
Yes, yes, they did.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, so it went well.
That's cool.
I'm funny for a girl.
Scientology.
I wish.
Funny for a girl. Youology. I wish. Funny for a girl.
You're just funny.
Thank you.
Yeah, speaking of funny, I saw this.
Didn't really necessarily make the news articles.
Right.
And look, I'm late to the game on Ted Lasso.
I've heard about it for four years, three years.
How long has it been out?
Sure.
And I've known it, but I've kind of been reserving it.
Sure.
Because we don't have the time to watch a ton of shows.
Right.
So we kind of, I kind of get.
Commit to what you can.
Bank some.
This one's been in the bank for a while.
We're on like episode five or six.
What do you think?
Oh, it's awesome.
It's perfect.
It's.
It's.
It's the best.
Expected, unexpected.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Like it's, you know, it's great.
The writing is terrific.
And Ted Lasso actor that I don't know his name.
Jason Sudeikis.
Jason Sudeikis.
Yep.
Almost Sudeikis.
He's great.
He's now a character.
They now have the full team on the 2023 FIFA soccer video game.
I would now play this game.
This would work for me.
Everybody's just going to be Ted Lasso
Ted and Roy
Oh god it's so good
So that's out
If you're a big gamer
Or not a gamer
This is how you get crossover marketing
That's how it is though
Good for the show, good for the game
How many more copies of the game might they sell
Because of the Lasso
Look I would do it.
You know?
Deadass.
Speaking of celebrity endorsements and crossover, Brad Pitt has a new face line out.
Yes.
Are you going to try it?
We've got to see if we can get you some samples.
It does say that it's genderless.
Yes.
So I'm actually a male.
We can both try it.
I can't use it because I'm a male.
You have to be genderless.
You have to be genderless.
I feel like you're missing that.
But okay, that's so open-minded of you.
I love that you're holding space.
I thought it was just for confused people.
Sign me up.
Yeah, I'm not confused personally.
I love when celebrities come out with skincare brands because it's like right you look this way because of lotion and not because of
like you know lots of surgery human growth hormone yeah whatever that is hey give me whatever he's
got he looks pretty good he's always been handsome oh i know but so good he does you know
especially because he smoked i mean he was a smoker right for probably like i don't know
somebody's gonna tell me i he would smoke for 20 years it just seemed like 10 years i mean he would
you'd see him off sets and do stuff like he was obviously for a while and he's recovered nicely
i would say so or never had to you know and a lot of people i know that smoked or smoke heavily and
it's become almost faux pas now, surprisingly,
with vaping and everything else.
I guess people are doing it.
It's not, you know, cigarettes.
But the smoke blowing in your face.
Have a little bit of a grit to them.
Wear and tear.
Yeah, the Marlboro man.
The old Seinfeld.
Kramer smoking cigars for just a month straight around the smoke, and he turned into an old man. Kramer smoking cigars. There it is. Like for just a month straight.
Yep.
Like around the smoke.
And he turned into an old man.
It's quite funny.
Anyway.
Le Domain is Brad Pitt's skincare line.
And, you know, I see these kind of things come out.
And I assume, kind of like, you know, you see the number of like Kardashians stuff,
like billions of dollars. I mean, I assume Brad's fac like, you know, you see the number of like Kardashians stuff, like billions of dollars.
I mean, I assume Brad's faceline will do wonderfully.
I mean, right?
I would say so.
Would you buy it or try it?
So with skincare, I would wait and see like reviews.
And if it's good, absolutely.
But I'm not just going to buy it because it's Brad Pitt.
And because it says Les Domaines.
Les Demands.
And I can't do French.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I just pretend.
Something like that.
So, yeah.
Good for Brad.
I'm really hoping he gets a hit.
I mean, he's just never been successful.
Finally, his big break.
I know, his big break.
Brad, we're so proud.
He's so ugly.
He never gets any parts in movies.
God.
Our beautiful women.
Never dated attractive women.
Yeah. So, good luck. God. Our beautiful women. Never dated attractive women. No.
Yeah.
So good luck to Brad. Good for him.
Hopefully that works out for him.
Speaking of working out on some level, I have signed up for an app called the Wisdom app.
You need to check it out.
It's pretty cool.
I saw this on your Instagram.
Yeah.
It's pretty cool.
I've gotten some really random questions i haven't
answered yet i've got i probably have like 12 questions what's the weirdest one you've gotten
can you tell us no i know weird ones a lot pretty thoughtful like if you could tell yourself
something 20 years ago what would you tell yourself sure and stuff like that uh and i'm
gonna actually i've got to get my adapter for my, I have a USB podcast mic.
I didn't want, I was being a little, I didn't want to just talk into the phone and it not sound like professional.
Right, right.
When I gave my answers.
This is getting saved on the InstaWebs forever.
So once I get my adapter, I'm going to go answer a lot of the questions that are there.
But it's pretty cool.
So wisdom.audio is how you download the app pretty cool uh they sent me a invite for that so i'm
verified over there which just means you know you know it's me uh and um you can actually click on
if you search for me ryan alford on the app you can find it and then you'll see on some of my
stories and stuff i'm going to post where you can ask me a question. And, yes, they have that on Instagram and stuff like that.
And I've done those.
But what's cool about this is I'll answer it by voice and you'll get a notification.
And you don't even have to have the app to ask the questions and get sent, I guess, like a notification with my response.
But, of course, they want you to download the app.
Can you save the response?
Yeah, it saves in my profile under the question asked and then my answer if I want to save it.
Fascinating.
And then it has some legs.
I think to me, it's a smarter version of Clubhouse, to be quite frankly, because it's like you record certain answers.
Short form audio is really what it's about.
I mean, they certainly have longer live talks
and things, but
I like what I see so far.
I think it's got some possibilities.
I'm going to play around with it and see how it goes.
If I don't just get tired of it
in six months like any other app
or forget about it.
Just keeping it real here, folks.
It looks pretty cool enough that I'm
giving it a shot so check it
out wisdom.audio you'll download it on your phone and i do think there's pretty some pretty
interesting um possibilities with it so uh take a look at that other radcast news we have sean
merriman yes next week great episode with him tuesday yeah ex All-Pro. He's involved in three to four brands.
Really good guy.
It was great.
I mean, he's doing a podcast out there,
extremely well-spoken and getting after it
in three or four different things.
And his Lights Out brand is incredible.
Yeah, that was the first one, wasn't it?
It's like UFC.
He started with apparel and fitness stuff,
and now he's kind of like the minor leagues of UFC.
Okay.
Kind of like fighters before they make it to UFC.
Sure.
He's got a whole promotion.
He's out there.
He talked about that and talked about his business.
He's got a life insurance company.
He's out there everywhere.
What's so funny about these NFL guys, he played.
He was an All-Pro for like six, eight years, and he's 38.
I mean, the guy looks 25.
Some of these NFL guys, you think about, oh, they retired,
and it seems like a long time ago for me because he retired in 2013,
almost 10 years ago.
Sure.
The guy looks young.
I mean, I know they took a lot of, I'm sure their bones hurt.
Right, right, right.
So it's easy for me to say where they look.
But, you know, it's like crazy.
Yeah.
Millions of dollars and retired.
And I'm sure there's a lot of examples that didn't make that.
But he's turned his, what's interesting,
and we had this discussion about how he's turned, you know,
his leverage and his fame into these
businesses immediately and i think some people make that transition faster than others yeah
some people just kind of wait and then go back to and then some people he said just can never
recover because the highs of playing in the pros like just everything that comes with it the
structure and everything else a lot of people struggle coming out of it.
It almost sounds like what you just said reminds me of people who come out of the military.
I use that exact analogy with him. And he said, yes, it's similar to that.
Like just not having that boundary.
But the structure, the camaraderie,
and then, of course, the high on game day of 70,000 people screaming.
Right.
The combination of all of those things.
So I can imagine.
Yeah.
So Sean Merriman look for that episode next week on the podcast,
Tuesday.
Check it out.
Check it out.
We had a good relief re-release this week with Christopher Lockhead.
Uh,
if you're starting a business,
you need to go listen to that episode.
One of the most insightful guys,
uh,
you know,
there's few people in my year in this business any longer
just because there's a lot of noise out there,
but Christopher Lockhead is firmly in my pantheon of greats in marketing
and business in general.
And so you need to check that out.
So many nuggets in that.
So that released this past Tuesday.
So if you didn't listen to that, give it a shot.
And speaking of giving a shot, you need to give a shot to our official merchandise sponsor.
And no, it's not a liquor.
It's a liquor.
I barely know her.
It is Branded Bills.
Brandedbills.com.
The official merchandise sponsor of the Radcast.
Great merchandise.
We've got hats and t-shirts everywhere,
but now it's time to get into the flannels,
you know, when it's 50 degrees.
The beanies.
The hoodies, which we need to order.
Yes, yes.
On my to-do list.
Yes, yeah.
Maybe next year.
I'll have them.
I'll have them.
I'll have them. I'll have them.
Yeah, I'll count on that.
You get 20% off with Radcast20.

collection. Yes yes great for fall
not stephanie but heather
is heather like heather is that the color like heather gray yes yes okay
not rebecca it's the heather what color would heather be
heather like as a person blonde i think. Yeah. I think blonde, too.
I don't know why.
I had a dance teacher named Heather who was blonde,
so I always think of that.
I don't...
I've known some Heathers along the way,
but it's been a while.

A month away.
Come hang out with me, Howie P., Howard Paynes,
and the who's who list of really successful entrepreneurs.
And go to thinkbillionstypeclub.
You'll get a lot more details.
But let me tell you, this is where big deals are happening.
We didn't call it millions. We call it billions lot more details. But let me tell you, this is where big deals are happening. We didn't call it millions.
We call it billions for a reason.
Billionaires' average net worth is in like seven, eight figures minimum.
And so you need to come hang out.
We need to make some deals happen.
And you know what?
We're going to be recording episodes of the Radcast for some of the guests that are going to be there.
So sign up at thinkbillions.club.
Exciting.
We've got some social media holidays.
We do indeed.
As we mentioned, first day of fall.
But it is also the lesser known holiday of National Checkers Day.
Checker.
I barely know her.
I have to.
That's the shtick.
That was why I put it in the show notes. Yes.
National Checkers Day.
You know, my kids like checkers.
Yeah.
I'm more of a chess guy.
I was going to ask.
Yes, that's right.
But now the kids are getting into chess now.
It was first checkers.
Now they're learning to play chess.
Natural progression. Yeah. And so it's cool. now they like it was first checkers now they're learning to play chess and natural progression
yeah and so it's cool i mean i have a lot of fond memories like growing up like checkers like
if you say it to me i think two things number one the failed burger franchise that was in
greenville that's right they had really pretty good french fries great french fries yes great
i'm not sure about anything else and they had the first ones, they have little drive-thrus.
You couldn't go inside the Checkers.
No.
Just a drive-thru, which seemed odd.
It's a cookout now.
It seemed odd back in the day.
Right.
You can't go in.
They always had the WWE toys.
I don't know why I remember that.
I don't remember that.
But I do remember the fries.
So that and then, of course, Checkers playing, growing up and playing and thinking I was king me.
Yeah, you know.
Yeah.
So National Checkers Day is today.
Get your checkers out and play the hell out of them.
There you go.
Tomorrow, National Ghost Hunting Day.
Yeah.
Man.
You believe in ghosts?
I believe there are spirits among us.
I don't think that we can probably see them or hear them.
Sure.
But I think there's probably something going on.
Fair.
But I don't believe in any of these ghost-like houses.
Yeah, the ghost hunters, stories like that.
I do think some houses can have some bad karma, bad chi.
Energy and all that kind of stuff.
Bad energy.
I think there's truth to that.
Because I've felt odd walking in some places before, and I didn kind of stuff. I think there's truth to that. Because I've felt odd
walking in some places before
and I didn't know why.
There's some kind of energy going on.
But I don't really believe that
ghouls and goblins
are walking among us per se.
But I do think
there's just too many...
I don't know.
Too much unexplained. Yeah. But I do think there's just too many, I don't know. I don't know.
There's...
Too much unexplained.
Yeah.
I'm probably starting to believe in UFOs, all the shit I've been reading lately.
Anyway, another day, another episode.
Sunday the 25th, I got to celebrate the National Lobster Day.
Man, I love some lobster.
You like lobster?
I don't think I've ever had lobster.
I like seafood, though.
The look of shame.
The disdain.
I mean, you gotta have...
Lobster's like...
I like to eat.
Okay?
Same.
I talk about it.
We talk about food on the show all the time.
And so, lobster's like one of the great treasures of, with lobster lightly, you know,
steamed and a little butter.
Like there's like, it's like heaven on earth, you know?
Yeah.
I've never, God's honest, I've never, I have never had like a, uh.
Or a lobster roll.
Nope, never.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Never.
Never.
So there's a good lob's a good lobster roll.
You had me at hello.
Like literally unlimited.
Like I could eat them every day.
Yeah.
Okay.
I never get tired of them.
Okay.
I would never want to live in Maine.
It's too cold.
It's too far north.
But if there was one place I might would live,
be up there with some Maine lobsters,
like just hugging them and hanging out. Before you eat them. But the probably would be up there with some Maine lobsters. Just hugging them and hanging out.
Before you eat them?
The thing is, I'd have pet lobsters,
but then I'd eat them.
I'd be like, I love you, buddy.
A vicious cycle.
But you're going to taste good on my roll tonight.
So Sunday, the 25th, National Lobster Day.
The 26th!
This is a good day, too.
National Pancake Day.
I do like pancakes.
The Offord House might break some records on the poundage of pancake mix that we go through.
So do you do the chocolate chip pancakes?
Plain, baby.
Plain, baby.
With butter and syrup?
Butter and syrup.
There you go.
And the kids, everybody likes pancakes.
Don't go wrong.
And, you know, bacon and pancakes frequently offered home quite a bit.
On the weekends especially.
Oh, yeah.
It's like, these kids, expecting pancakes, you know.
So I'm a pretty good pancake maker.
I loved making them as a kid.
I'm a much better pancake maker than Nicole.
Well, you were a sous chef.
Yes, I was.
But pancaking takes a little...
There's a technique to it.
Technique.
Yeah, on the wrist.
And you don't want it...
You got to know when to flip them,
know when to hold them,
know when to fold them.
And you got to have that griddle
just warm enough and not too hot.
Because they get burned
and it doesn't even look that burned.
It tastes burned. Yep. Like it doesn't even look that burned it tastes burned
yep
like it's not golden brown
if it's a little
too golden brown
it tastes burnt
yep
sorry
too crispy
and I'll send that shit back
I'll be like
I've gotten it at the table
and it looks okay
but I know
I'll take one little
no
take that back
I need to come back there
and I'm not that guy usually
with stuff like sending back
but pancakes
you don't want to burn a few things better than a good pancake and then a burnt pancake true I need to come back there. And I'm not that guy usually with stuff like sending back. But pancakes?
You don't want to burn a few things better than a good pancake and then a burnt pancake.
True.
Being terrible.
It's a fine thin line.
Yeah.
Pancakes and lobsters this weekend.
There you go.
Pancake lobster roll. Sunday, Monday.
Happy fall.
You get a pancake day here at the office, you know.
Uh-huh.
Challenge accepted.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I could do it.
I could do it.
Make it for everyone. There's your social holidays social holidays yes on to our social media news got some fun little
articles uh youtube outlines a new monetization program for shorts creators we knew this was
coming beginning in 2023 creators who have at least a thousand subscribers and draw a minimum
of 10 million shorts views over a 90-day period
can apply for YPP and perks therein, such as monetization from across shorts and long-form videos.
Yes, I saw this, and I think you're going to see more and more of this where, you know,
they're going to have to. I made the analogy or comparison of, like, programming, you know, they're going to have to. I made the analogy or comparison of like programming, you know, who gets paid.
Like they pay millions of dollars for these shows to get produced.
And then we're the creators or anyone that puts content to social media.
And I think you're going to see more and more competition for the best creators.
And so they've got to pay them.
best creators and so they've got to pay them and a thousand subscribers does not seem high as in like entrance number entry number for this no but 10 million shorts use overnight i mean that's
yeah that's significant that's significant but uh i think you're gonna see more and more
monetization type changes like in different things. Do you think that will, just opinion,
do you think that that will
increase the quality
of content or decrease
it? Like will people sell out
or do you think that it will increase
creativity? I think in the short term it would
increase.
You know, it's like
everybody's kind of a TV station now.
We're all TV stations.
And there's a taste for different things.
But now there's a set of, what, 100 TV stations?
Right.
Every person.
A billion.
A billion people.
So there's a lot of different tastes and a lot of different niches.
You're going to see this niching down, which is kind of back to when we had flavors last week
where the cooking stuff and the content creators there.
I can see people getting paid for doing that,
and that's a channel within – so I think –
Nickel and dime either way.
Yeah, but I think in the short term it will get better.
But to get the views, the content has to be –
no matter what we think is good or bad, if it's getting that many views, then it's grabbing attention.
Yeah.
I just don't know, like, there's a formula to this stuff.
Like, my kids watch these YouTube videos, like, demos and, like, watching other people play video games.
It's kind of a Twitch thing, obviously.
And, I mean, it's just crazy.
But there is kind of a formula to all of it.
Yeah, absolutely.
And some staging on some levels.
You know, Jake Paul.
Fascinating.
All right, what else we got?
We've got, so, B-Real, which we've talked about a lot.
Not a ton to report, but they are considering adding paid features
as opposed to advertisements which
i think is a an interesting twist just on the monetization aspect of it yeah because it is a
free like there is none of that right now yeah so am i reading this right i didn't read as much
report like you're you pay for the features in the app? Yes. Okay. Yes. Like editing aspects of it, filters, things like that.
That's interesting.
As opposed to dealing with advertisements.
Yeah.
That's interesting.
I think it goes back to show like what is this platform?
Is this a creation platform or is this going to be truly social media?
Because if you're paying to create, you're going down the avenue of a creator creation platform.
You know.
But if it's social, I think that this
makes more sense for them because if it's a
purely social app and you end up
with
having to watch a video or
something and it's all
timed, I would get annoyed and delete the app.
Yeah. I don't know. So we'll see. I'm curious we'll see it's an interesting turn or they just don't want to
compete they know they're long term they can't compete with tiktok and somebody's gonna buy
facebook is for probably if they get and they may have maybe have no scale already to be bought
they have data and stuff but we'll see how it goes but that's it for uh social media yeah this
next one onto our marketing news. I
thought this was a fascinating number. Retail media makes up 11 percent of global ad spend.
This year's retail media spend represents 18 percent of global digital advertising and 11
percent of total advertising. The study was done by Group M and they estimate that retail
advertising will increase roughly 60 percent and reach 160 hundred and sixty billion dollars by 2027.
I mean, pandemic's over.
Uh huh.
You know, so this is the pendulum like pendulum swing.
Hardcore swinging the other way and they need people back in the stores.
And whether that's online or offline, I imagine retail makes up both.
But foundation of a lot of retail
is still brick and mortar for some.
And so...
Nine times out of 10, that's the preferred.
If you have that option, that's preferred.
Yeah.
And so they've got to, you know,
they're going to be competing
even if, you know, you see dips in other things.
Like, you've got to get competitive again
because what you see, and other things. You've got to get competitive again because what you see,
and I've noticed this,
whether it's retail stores or restaurants,
there's still some that have hung on, hung on, hung on
that are closing.
Even in Greenville, we've seen some of this,
like some restaurants that historically have been great,
but with labor costs and food costs
and other things competition like the competition
like they're still and i think so thus these retailers you know that have made it to come
on the other side of it have got to get things back out there and continue to elevate their brand
and then promote you know right their differentiation you know promote, you know, their differentiation, you know.
So, you know, $160 billion.
Yeah, it's a lot of money.
And 2027 is not that far away.
No, it sounds like a long time ago.
Right? A long time ago.
Far away.
Far, far away.
Galaxy.
In 2027.
It kind of does sound like an old Star Wars date, you know.
It's only four years now.
Three years.
Four and some change. Yeah. Heavens. change yeah heavens yeah up next we have some food you'll be old it'll be 30 i will i will
too old for leo yes for leo uh i've been joking that i'm almost 34 years ago but we've got some
food news yes carl jr's hardy's you hardy? I eat some Hardee's. I used to eat their breakfast a lot.
I like Hardee's burgers.
They had the best biscuits
before people kind of got a little better at biscuits.
Like everybody got a little better at them.
That's it.
That's the market.
Like we had the best biscuits
before people got better.
Hardee's breakfast back in the day when I grew up,
you went there for sausage biscuit,
biscuit and gravy.
Telling you.
I know you wonder how I'm not 400 pounds
talking about food.
But they're refreshing your brand identity.
And lots of HGH.
Just kidding.
It's Brad Pitt Skincare.
That's what you use.
Don't lie.
I don't take HGH.
But Hardee's is refreshing your brand identity with flavor as the inspiration.
The new design system is inspired by the brand's flavors and ingredients,
including a made-over Happy Star logo and other design elements that are textured to invoke charbroiled burgers, a bold color palette, and impactful typography.
This is so fun.
Yeah.
I mean, what's interesting-
Have you seen the logo?
It is.
Look, they've got to stand out.
I think the biggest problem that Hardee's have has had over the years and the reason
they're not on my radar number one you forget them i forget them the market there's just nothing
really stand out about it i get hardy's and wendy's and my kids always want to go to mcdonald's
right because they love happy meals and i think they put crack in the food and i'm joking, McDonald's. It's a joke. They're addicted to your Happy Meals.
Then if I want a fast food burger,
Flame World, Burger King, pretty good.
Not that stand out either,
but if I'm going to choose the best burger,
there are Wendy's probably.
Wendy's is what I would do.
Hardee's is kind of like the odd man out. I don't eat that much personally.
I don't eat much fast food.
And there's nothing else around.
My kids eat McDonald's about once a week.
We limit it to that.
Not counting Hot Cake Friday with the older boys.
We do Hot Cake Friday.
McDonald's, if you're out there, you've already been sponsoring us.
175 school Fridays in a row we made
until the pandemic we've picked it back up literally back on it i should be the official
sponsor of i mean it was hot cake friday start making tiktoks start making tiktoks it'll happen
anyway back to my hearties you know you got to stand out, people. Like, this is like, and you got to lean into it.
You got all this competition and in a heavily crowded category.
So this makes sense to me.
I have no idea how it all is going to come together and what it all is going to taste like.
You know, drippy, messy, and indulgent.
Drippy, messy, and indulgent, which are not words I would associate with Hardee's, but maybe now.
But you know what?
After reading this,
we'll see it get implemented.
I'll give it a shot.
I'll try some Hardee's.
I'll try some Hardee's.
Maybe on air.
Maybe not.
We've got to start eating on the podcast.
Carl's Jr.
Yes.
Key here, stand out or stand down.
Either way, we'll eat burgers.
Yes.
This next one, your favorite alcohol of all time.
Ha ha ha.
Sarcasm.
Mike's Hard Lemonade pays consumers to take PTO.
This is very smart.
Now through September 28th, consumers can apply for MTO, which is Mike's time Off, for a chance to win $200 for one day's worth of time off.
Winners will be paid electronically via Zelle or Venmo.
The giveaway comes as a fear of recession looms and could boost the brand's presence among price-conscious Gen Z consumers.
Yeah, this is fun.
I mean.
I'd love to be paid by Mike's Heart.
Yeah.
I don't know if we'll ever get them as a sponsor after a few shticks.
Negative.
I like Marks Hard, but it's because I'm young and I still like lemonade.
Yeah.
I don't, you know, drink it often.
Yeah.
But.
I'm going to leave it there.
Good call.
Good call.
I caught it and I appreciate it um i i like this play a lot it's fun uh mto
clever yeah mike's time off.com um i don't quite understand the mechanism here like so you get
receive 200 for one day is worth the time off like they're just gonna pay you unless you get
the time off it's for i mean because pay you. Not necessarily get the time off.
Mike's, are you paying my employees to drink while they're
at work? Is that what's happening here?
From what I read in the article,
it's people who don't get PTO.
This is an option.
There's some kind of vetting process.
Obviously, it's a
six-day campaign for eligibility.
That's cool. I would imagine it's a what? It's a six day campaign. Yeah. For eligibility. OK, that's cool.
So I would imagine it's a lot of people who work in the service industry or have part time jobs.
You know, Gen Z.
And hopefully they'll spend all that money on some Mike's Hard Lemonade.
You know, that's the plan.
That's the plan.
And, you know, I'm not a hater.
It's just whatever we had that day.
I think we had like the bold version.
It was just not good.
Joe and I were sitting here sipping on it.
And I was like trying to sip on one during it because we had like another feature like this.
So I brought some in.
I think I bought the extra bold or something and it was extra not good.
That'll do it.
That'll do it.
Yes.
This next article I love because I play this game too much.
But the New York Times subway ads unlock spelling bee in purpose driven campaign.
Are you familiar with this little game?
Yes.
The New York Times games division is running a digital out of home.
Oh, campaign on subway trains and platforms in New York City to promote its spelling bee title.
The New York Times games, some of which are only available through their subscription,
have become a key revenue and engagement source as mobile gaming explodes in popularity and
profitability.
I mean, the first thing I thought is like Wordle.
Uh-huh.
Yep.
You play some Wordle?
Every single morning.
Nice.
I am not that.
I don't even have it on my phone.
I wake up and do Wordle and New York Times.
But it's funny, like when we're on vacations
or doing things like with the kids in downtime,
Wordle seems to be the family,
like a little bit of a family thing.
That's fun.
We're kind of like figuring it out and stuff.
The boys like it.
I love it so much.
It's pretty fun.
And the mini crossword is fun too.
Yeah.
So I thought it was the New York Times.
One of the media companies bought Wordle.
It might be New York Times.
I don't know.
Like one of them.
I think New York Times bought Wordle.
Yeah.
It was one of them.
That's what it was.
Yeah.
So, you know, obviously they're seeing some benefits to that.
So is it truly a spelling bee game?
There's a little bee.
And you're given a certain amount of letters.
And you have to make as many words as possible.
And you have to always use the center letter.
It's hard.
It is frustrating.
I don't know if I would be as good at that.
I am not as good as I think I should be, quite frankly.
Story of my life.
This is cool.
I mean, okay.
Digital out of home, I like, by the way.
So I'm a proponent of digital out of home.
It's a more affordable way to buy high-profile placements.
There's a little bit of a thing on that.
You're going to start seeing some radcast digital out of home.
I do think they run ads on these games obviously and they're getting data from you
downloading it so that then they can remarket to you and that's how this works so you're like
how exactly they make money on these things but you come up with these types of mechanisms
it's no different than like on the internet when someone has like a digital tool on their website
that you might use for something like for instance like if there tool on their website that you might use for something
like for instance like if there's a movie database that you can go to and you can if you put in a
movie you get like four more that you would like right but you got to enter your email to use the
tool it's an email capture tool because then they're going to use that data either sell it
or to remarket to you for other things or send you a newsletter you don't really want every time every time but it could be a newsletter you want if they
do the newsletter right and so a lot of them just don't excellent point because i have i have many
many newsletters i actually quite enjoy a bit do you subscribe to nyt uh no i don't pay for it. I do now because of the games and the articles.
So it worked on me.
See there.
I maxed out my free articles and now I play the games as well.
There you go.
All right.
Last article of the day.
League of Legends enlists Lil Nas X for championship anthem.
Riot Games, creator of online battle arena game League of Legends,
has enlisted rapper-singer Lil Nas X,
I don't even know if I'm saying that correctly,
as the game's president.
He also produced an anthem in the championship's Star Walkin',
which will debut, or has debuted, ahead of this event.
The partnership includes the game's first co-designed artist
in-game collaboration and demonstrates growing interest by brands
to utilize musicians to create original songs to attract new audiences. co-designed artist in-game collaboration and demonstrates growing interest by brands to
utilize musicians to create original songs to attract new audiences you know little ozx pissed
me off when he did the blood in the shoes thing but like he did old town road with freaking uh
billy ray cyrus which was fun my kids still love that so this crossover makes a lot of sense you know other than you know him being a vampire
or whatever he was but uh look kids are in these games man like they're playing these games and so
games are where it's at between this and new york times you know i don't know what it says about us
we need distractions we need to play more yeah We want to be placated at all times.
Entertained.
Yes, entertained.
It's the only place to reach them.
My kids aren't watching TV.
Unless they're watching a football game with me or something.
They're watching YouTube shorts.
They're playing video games.
Or they're playing sports.
And so this is where you got to go.
or they're playing sports.
And so this is where you got to go.
And these kind of crossovers make sense with, you know,
music and video games and Ted Lasso.
Like,
I mean,
it's media.
It's intertwines all connected,
all these things.
No,
during the Michael Jordan,
I mean,
Michael Jordan,
like original,
like was in games and, like, Nintendo.
Yeah, that's a good point.
There was, like, all this.
This stuff ain't new.
Like, it's just.
And music.
Rebranding.
Like, Michael Jackson was on Pepsi, was with.
Yeah.
Like, you know, it's just spokesperson and interchanging of media.
And so.
And they have attention.
Yep.
Borrowed.
They both have a different set of audiences.
Here's what's happening.
You've got Lil Nas, his circle of influence,
all the people that like his music and do all that.
You have a very popular game, League of Legends,
all these people that are doing that.
But those audiences aren't exactly the same.
You bring them together and they share the audiences.
And you bring them together so that they buy more of each product
and more intermingling of those audiences
to the circles of influence of each.
The high tide raises all ships.
That's why they do these things.
Benefits everybody.
It does.
And I think you'll see more and more of this
as my kids' time in games increases.
So let's go on Fortnite.
Fortnite, the new season's pretty cool.
Fortnite is actually one of the first games that I've like,
I don't even, I can play it, but I'm not that, I haven't played enough.
I actually enjoy watching the kids play it.
We have it on this like 90-inch, I don't even know what,
like gigantic screen.
And it's like intense.
It's like you, it's enjoyable.
I catch myself like going in there to tell them to do something else.
And then like 15 minutes later, I've come out of the vortex.
I've been like watching them play.
Been sucked in.
Yeah.
So anyway.
But speaking of kids. Video games. Yeah, proud of the kids. They're all playing baseball this season. Nash had a big night the other in. Yeah. So, anyway. But speaking of kids.
Video games.
Yeah.
Proud of the kids.
They're all playing baseball this season.
Nash had a big night the other night.
Yes.
I saw that on Instagram.
Yeah.
So sweet.
He's a good kid and played well.
Got the first game ball of the season.
First game of the season.
It's a big deal.
Yep.
He's got a game tonight.
That's the stuff that sticks with you.
Yeah.
So, we're headed to Baseballville.
There you go.
Yep. And... Fall ball. Clemson better beat Wake Forest this weekend
That's all I've got to say
Go Tigers
It's been a little rocky start to the season
I mean we're 3-0 but it's just kind of a little shaky
A little stressed
We'll see
Any big weekend plans?
No
I start rehearsals for the show that I'm in But that's it I'm a stepsister in Cinderella Any big weekend plans? No. No.
I start rehearsals for the show that I'm in, but that's it.
I'm a stepsister in Cinderella.
Yes, because I'm just funny.
It's great.
We start Sunday.
But that's it.
