Starting point is 00:00:00 What's up guys? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. Friday, July 29th, 2022. Christina Yossi, what's up? Not much. Can't believe it's almost August. Almost August. I like that. It's a good name of a song. Almost August. Or a band.
Starting point is 00:00:20 Yeah, almost August. There you go. Yes. Copyright trademark. Almost August and definitely hot. Yes. Toasty. It's toasty here in South Kakalaki.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Balmy. Yeah. But yeah, summer's kind of flying by here. Yeah. Kind of want to slow down. Same. I don't even want to go back to school. Like my life doesn't really change in the fall.
Starting point is 00:00:40 I know. I like the summer. Kids aren't at school. Yeah. Everything's a timeline. I'm always summer. Kids aren't at school. Everything's a timeline. I'm always kind of timeline driven anyway. So it's like I like a little bit of laid back summer. Totally.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Not to be confused with hot girl summer. Laid back summer in the Offord family. There you go. You know what I'm talking about. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Is it single girl summer or hot girl summer? Hot girl summer.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Yeah, something like that. And then sad girl autumn yeah yeah that's when i thrive that's my brand yes yes yes it's uh and it's kind of like sort of slow but not slow yeah like things are happening but it's progress is happening yeah but it's like i don don't know, something happens. Less pressure. When it gets fall and the winter and it's like, I don't know, everybody gets. Back on the grind. Yeah, on the grind. I like working hard, but playing hard. There you go.
Starting point is 00:01:36 It's called balance. Yes. As we talked about before the show. Yes. I hope everyone's doing well wherever, whenever, however you might be listening or watching. It's been a good week. Yeah. We're rocking and rolling.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Doing big things here at Radical. Non-stop. Saw a big fucking mattress get delivered. Yes, finally. About time. We're shooting a commercial here for a company. You might have heard of Sheets and Giggles. Good friends of ours and a good partner.
Starting point is 00:02:07 We're shooting a new mattress line coming out. They're sustainable, which is good. And especially in the mattress. Mattress just kind of go to, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:17 clog up landfills. Yeah. So, and, you know, I might get a new mattress out of all of it, so who knows.
Starting point is 00:02:23 There you go. Work smart, not hard. Yeah. And we've got all kinds of stuff going on. There's been lots of shoots. Had my kids in our – Shoots with shoes. Shoots with shoes.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Yeah. Stardom Young. Yes. We were all over the place. Even Nick was out there directing, shooting, telling my kids what to do, smacking them around. I can't believe you smacked my kid, Nick. Kidding.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Kidding. Kidding. I might have. All jokes. They were actually pretty well behaved. Maybe they have a future. Future modeling career. Yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 00:02:59 There you go. There's a lot of money in the foot modeling industry. Zero diversity. Blonde hair, blue eyed kids. It's like men. They are what they are. But if you need some blonde hair, blue eyed kids, give me a call.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Mine are up for auction. It's like whore him out, man. Whore him out. I've got four. You know, we could settle for some times having fewer. Joking. They're all good kids. Actually, lots of birthdays at the Alford family house.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Hudson turned 11 two weeks ago. Good year. And Clayton this week turned 13. I have a teenager now. Oh, my gosh. I am old. Sobering. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:41 So, and we're having a party later today. And I still haven't bottom anything. He's the hardest kid to buy it for. I'm like, I'm going to go out like lunch and grab something. I'm like, what do you buy a 13-year-old boy? Any suggestions? Does he like clothes? Not really.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Okay. He does, but doesn't. Sure. He's not, he hasn't gotten to where he cares about that yet. Money's always good. I want him to like, I'm wearing my Air Jordan 1s today. I'd love for, you know, like my pocketbook would, or my wallet would, or my pocketbook. I do love pocketbooks.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Satchels. Doesn't want them to like nice shoes, but I kind of want them to. Because I'm like, hey, get some cool shoes. Most. Hogan loves them. Hudson's kind of like, Hudson got some Yeezys. Oh. You're just strutting in the Alford house.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Took a second mortgage out on the house to get some Yeezys. There you go. I'm kidding. They were borrowing money for shoes. But Clayton's like, eh. Does he like tech yeah gadgety things and you know his mom got him some airpods okay that was gonna be my suggestion so i was like that was in the back of my head she's like i got his mirror i'm all right damn it get him an apple watch yeah do you look at mine i didn't think about getting him a nice watch yeah there you go
Starting point is 00:05:06 i don't know but that's a nice like 13 year old gift though but like that's kind of thing that's like oh you know i mean am i gonna get i mean i'd want to get him like a brightling or something yeah like three grand yeah you know like sure i don't know i'm not gonna get him a casio two dollars my days are too expensive for buying my kids stuff. And not everything. I'm a cheap t-shirt jeans guy. Shoes, watches, and I don't know, wine. Accoutrement.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Oh, God, same. Yes. Expensive tastes. But I don't know. So you can send me in your recommendations, but it'll be too late because I'll have to have already gone. When in doubt, cash. Yes. So, you know, the news this week has been about a potential recession, and we're here to talk about positive news.
Starting point is 00:05:53 But I did want to mention something that was interesting. increased marketing spend the last quarter to create brand value, even amid they've been raising prices because they've had to like everybody else. And there's been this presumed recession. And they had one of the best quarters they've ever had, 12% up. And I say this to remind people that people are going to want to kind of pull back. But it's actually sometimes when you do the opposite, you have the opposite effect. And I'm not saying be irresponsible. And I know Coca-Cola is one of the biggest brands in the world.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Right, right, right. But it caught my attention because of how bold and confident they were to spend and overspend on branding and marketing, even amidst all these fears and price hikes and all their stocks up, everything's up for the quarter. It's incredible. So just keep it in mind. Yes, you can't use Coca-Cola as a proxy for everything, but I would just keep it in mind that when others zig, you zag,
Starting point is 00:06:58 and when everyone pulls back, that means advertising is probably going to be a little less expensive, marketing is going to be less expensive, and you can stand out more because everyone else is running less. And so keep it in mind. Great tip. We've got some Radcast news.
Starting point is 00:07:14 We do. We had a little re-release this week. I looked at the downloads on that. We are outpacing the original release by like 4 to 1. Look at that. Yes. Great episode. Bruce Buffer. Yes. Great episode. Bruce Buffer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:31 We did hit a record 7,500 downloads yesterday in one day. That's exciting. Thank you all. Yes. Thank you, everyone listening. Wherever you are, South Korea seems to really be picking up. I don't know how, but we love you, South Korea. We appreciate it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I don't know how, but we love you, South Korea. We appreciate it. Yes. We're maintaining our top 100 Apple position in the U.S., which is great. But it's just interesting looking at some of the countries where things pop up. And so we love you wherever you are. Love that algorithm. But, yes, Bruce Buffer, his episode was really relevant. Super bright guy.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Obviously uber successful. And I've been looking for his It's Time energy drinks. I'm drinking my Alani Nu, who doesn't seem to want to call us back. Nope. I'm just going to keep promoting you for free. The It's Time brand of energy drinks is out along with other stuff. But Bruce was super insightful. Been releasing a lot of his highlight clips.
Starting point is 00:08:27 I'm like watching the back one. Okay, this was pretty good. Pretty good. I get reminded. We've done almost 300 episodes now. Right. They're all my babies, but I go watch them.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And you're like, oh, that's pretty good. That's my favorite one. Yeah, that was great. That's the one that gets the Breitling watch. Yes. And for all of you Days of Our Lives, Star Wars lovers, Christopher
Starting point is 00:08:51 Sean joined us a few weeks ago. His episode will be releasing next week. I'm excited for that one. Christopher was awesome. Cool guy. Super, super down to earth. Yeah. Very kind. We talk hardcore. Look, just get over it it we did have about a five
Starting point is 00:09:07 to seven minute bit talking about daytribe lives and soap operas but it's really like the the reality of how it's produced i just find it fascinating like you know like how much of a different animal soap operas are right with that kind of serial mindset yes how fast it moves at least in the production the storylines do not move fast, but everything else does. Right. Yes. And then yesterday we recorded Ashley Parker Angel. Any of you O-Town fans out there?
Starting point is 00:09:35 There you go. That was a long episode, too. Yes. We talked for a long time. We did. And one of his business managers and co-founders came on the show with him. Bobby, and I'm going to miss his name, but you'll see him in the show notes. But Bobby.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Klebanoff. Klebanoff. There you go. Very good. Very good. I made that five-pound on the right. Yes. But we could have talked for like two hours.
Starting point is 00:10:00 It just like went on and on and on. Ashley was great. Talked about his O-Town days. Talked about leveraging all of that attention into new platforms. Talked about failures that they had tried, which I did like. I heard about cereal, opening up a cereal restaurant. Literally, I was like, I'd love to eat some cereal. Right, same.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Then they looked at rents for LA and New York. They're like, maybe this won't work. Yeah, it's unreal. You have to sell a lot of cereal. Or like not a lot of very expensive cereal. You need more of like a pop-up for that. Right, right. There you go. Pop-up store. There you go.
Starting point is 00:10:34 You know, like when you go in those buffets and it's got this drop-down, like you push the bowl up against it. You just need a big ring of those. Like a continental breakfast. Don't worry about COVID or anything, but already germs right right now you know so uh ashley parker angel coming soon coming soon and we got several big guests lined up i'm actually reaching out if anyone uh working on kirk kirk herb street from esp. I'm working the angles there. Kirk, if you're listening, checking us out,
Starting point is 00:11:07 seeing if you belong. You belong! You too can be on the Radcast. He had you. I got quite a few ESPN connections, so we'll see what happens. Speaking of connections, my
Starting point is 00:11:23 good friends at Branded Bills got my new white hat on. Yeah, there you go. Rocking this, rock this to the lake. Felt more appropriate, the white, not absorbing all the sun. Right, right. A little cooler.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Yes. Branded Bills, brandedbills.com, the official merchandise sponsor of the Radcast. It's a performance hat. Yes. Didn't even know what I was getting into. Moisture wicking. Yes. Sweatband. know what I was getting into. Moisture wicking. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Sweatband. Lightweight. Great for summer. Certainly lightweight. Yeah. Use Radcast 20 on the website for 20% off your purchase. Go to our website, theradcast.com. Click on sponsors.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Click on the button that says branded bills. Discount code. That will plug it in automatically for you. You get 20% off the entire site. And they do custom work, people, just like this Radcast hat. You can get custom logos, anything you want on their hoodies, T-shirts, hats, beanies. You name it, they got it. Some of the best merchandise in the country. Great quality.
Starting point is 00:12:23 High quality. Give them a shout out. Tell them we sent you. Go to BrandedBills.com. We've got a few social holidays today. Happy Talking on Elevator Day. Yes. That's today.
Starting point is 00:12:34 It's an elevator. It's a long container. Too bad we don't have an elevator. I do in my apartment. I'd go talk at it. Talk to myself in it, but it's fine. Yeah. Do you talk to yourself in the elevator?
Starting point is 00:12:43 Sometimes. In your mind or out loud? I've done it out loud before. I never answer it, though, but it's fine. Yeah. Do you talk to yourself in the elevator? Sometimes. In your mind or out loud? I've done it out loud before. I never answered, though, so it's fine. Oh. A lot of times it's like, I don't want to do this when I'm going to the gym, but it's fine. Yeah. And then tomorrow is...
Starting point is 00:12:55 I think I go, I hope this fucking elevator doesn't break. Also that, yeah. And mine's broken several times, but it's fine. Never with me in it. Tomorrow, International Day of Friends of friendship what a good day just say hello to my little friends celebrate those friends you know what i'm talking about nick um little godfather absolutely uh international day of friendship oh you know hug a friend day we'll call it you know there you go you can hug someone
Starting point is 00:13:23 on instagram there you go and the 31st is or whatever. Text someone on Instagram. There you go. And the 31st is one of my favorite days, National Mutt Day. I love a little mutt. Good mutt. Not a purebred. It's a mud. Rescues. Old mutt.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And it's also National Avocado Day. I like avocados. You like avocados? I don't know. Only time I've gotten food poisoning is from an avocado. Read my lips. No. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Yes. Like avocados, Nick? Yeah, I love them. Oh, see. Avocado toast, baby. When you get sick on them, that'll do it. Remember that Panera sandwich we'd have with avocado on it, like melted, that went away? Can't beat that.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Panera, you need to get that back. Toasted. We're giving all the free promos out there. I know, I know. I'm like, stop mentioning the names. It's just a taste. Right. Once you get, you know. Your little sample of the sugar, you know.
Starting point is 00:14:13 You're going to come back for more. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Yes. And then respect your parents' day. Okay. Bring it in the month. If my kids listen to this podcast, they need to really pay attention to this one. Respect your parents' day.
Starting point is 00:14:26 August 1st. August 1st. There you have it. There's our social holidays. Celebrate accordingly. July's light on the social holidays. Yes, it is. Don't hold us against this.
Starting point is 00:14:37 August will be good. Yeah. TikTok news. Here we go. Here we go. This is fascinating. I saw this. It's everywhere. TikTok news. Here we go. Here we go. This is fascinating. I saw this. I'll let you cheat up.
Starting point is 00:14:46 It's everywhere. Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian tell Instagram to stop trying to be TikTok. They both posted. They have a combined following of 686 million people on Instagram. And they said, they told TikTok or Instagram to stop trying to be TikTok. They both shared the link and they said that they're over instagram instagram again yeah i saw this and you know what so here's the thing i watched a video a couple weeks ago of i think it was a couple weeks ago it might have been this week things started running together in
Starting point is 00:15:19 summertime blues or summertime fun i I should say. One of the programmers or marketing guys, I don't know who he was for Instagram, he talked about why it was moving towards video. I saw that. And he said it's because there's more sharing, more engagement on the video, so they're doing more video.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And I'm like, that might be true, but I don't know if it's chicken or the egg. Is it more video because you're pushing more video and people are engaging with it because they're seeing fewer photos? Right. Or is it truly because people want to engage more? Well, it's like set yourself apart. You know, I don't want like four of the same apps.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Yeah. But that's just me. And apparently me and Kylie and Kim also feel that way. Yeah. And so I kind of miss some basic photos myself. Yeah. I don't see many in the feed. Or just photos of people that I know as opposed to all, like my Instagram is all memes.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Yeah. Which is fine, but. I'm going to start posting photos again. Photos of photos. Hmm. Polaroids. Videos of photos. Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Like Hogwarts. Ooh, there we go. How about a photo of a video? Never mind. Photo Nevermind Photoception No Not that Honda Civic Tour Expands beyond live shows
Starting point is 00:16:36 With TikTok videos From Future X Honda is bringing back its yearly Summer concert series with a new format To reach fans through live shows and content on tiktok the car makers honda civic tour features the future x a group that american idol creator simon fuller formed this year there you go i mean i do think of i don't know this generation honda civics being kind of like that. Uh-huh. That genre.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Yeah. Makes sense to me. Same. I can't say I've seen or heard Future X yet. No, I gave them a quick Google when I read this article. And they're fine. They'll be successful. What kind of music?
Starting point is 00:17:15 Like pop. Okay. Like boy band pop? It's a little more techie than that. Not quite techno but okay yeah chain smokers a little bit okay yeah all right i like some chain smokers there you go chain smoking um you know if i'm honda and i'm pushing civics i'm gonna be on TikTok. Yeah, 100%. You know, I might be pushing anything, but now. 100%.
Starting point is 00:17:46 But 100% makes sense. It looks, I saw some, there was like some souped up Honda Civic that was like 80 grand or something. I'm like, who's buying an $80,000 Honda Civic? Yeah, I'd rather buy a Beamer. Yeah. Hey, there you go. Just saying. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:04 What do you think of Honda Civics civics nick i think they're good yeah yeah my sister had one growing up see did she pay eighty thousand dollars for hers not quite that much yeah understandably so eight thousand seems right for honda civic i remember having like in college or something you know yeah i drove an accord in college i did too for about five minutes you wreck it uh no uh i went back i had a jeep i got a honda and i went back to a jeep i got you yeah so i did see this some small businesses are seeing organic success on tiktok no kidding we've only been telling you yes um this is an interesting concept so essentially they uh they're doing print on demand yeah t-shirts nice shirt thanks is the account so basically you can
Starting point is 00:18:54 send them your design idea and they print it and make it for you yeah and which is cool you send like a couple words and they come up with it yeah it's great it's fun they got more than 1.5 million views and almost 370,000 likes on their video with the business idea they're making a lot of money says they're going to plan to sell at least 50,000 shirts by the end of the year so they a business idea shared on tiktok business created and now executing and working straight off the platform organically. Incredible. Right off of TikTok. There you have it.
Starting point is 00:19:31 What else we got here? Let's see. We're entering the metaverse. Oh, boy. Oh, no. Cue it up. Tee it up. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:19:37 I was waiting on you. Oh, no. I can't remember which button it is. Press for time. There it is. Trends in the metaverse. Just when you thought we were done with it. Metaverse real estates, sales to grow by $5 billion by 2026.
Starting point is 00:19:54 That's an insane number. This expansion will be with a B. First, the metaverse will gradually move towards more mixed reality experience, which we've talked about a lot. And then taking all annotations and decoding tags for different application specific purposes this is insane and then the second reason is they're trying to push more cryptocurrencies to cause passive income well basically you know if you can't buy a house in the real world buy it in the metaverse right you can. The metaverse doesn't have a recession yet. You know your avatar wants to stay in my house.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Start marketing this thing. There it is. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Working remotely from the metaverse? Yes. But hey, I'm working remote today in the metaverse. So I'm somewhere. That's where we start getting requests.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Hey, guys. Sorry, I'm out of the office, but I'm in the metaverse. I'm somewhere that's where we start getting requests uh hey guys sorry i'm out of the office but i'm in the metaverse okay i'm at the store for you yes but real estate by five billion dollars allegedly yeah we'll see i don't know i i it probably will but like these numbers are staggering and i feel like there's been a little bit of a... I told people to kind of slow their roll on some of this stuff. We kind of had fun with the whole trends in the metaverse. But it does feel like it's reached a bit of a plateau. Yeah, just in the short term here.
Starting point is 00:21:16 People are realizing there's not much you can do with it. Because people are putting goggles on yet at home every day. At least you aren't. I might be, but. But Chipotle's getting involved. Nick lives in the metaverse constantly. This is actually his avatar. Oh, that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I can see that. Yeah, never come out. Heyo. Yeah. Are we coming out? Coming out of the metaverse. All right, I'm going to leave that one right there. Chipotle's getting involved, though.
Starting point is 00:21:42 They have a buy the dip game, which will give away $200,000 in crypto. Chipotle Mexican Grill is celebrating National Avocado Day, no thank you, by launching a limited-time stock market simulation game, Buy the Dip, that will give away 200K in various cryptocurrencies to individual players. Nice. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:22:00 All right. This is fun. Chipotle's just the best. I do like some Chipotle food. Same. Buy the Dip. Just. All right. This is fun. Chipotle is just the best. I do like some Chipotle food. Same. Buy the dip. Just no guac. You know that comes from like the stock market.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Oh, yeah. Oh, buy the dip. That's what's happening right now. Lots of buying the dip. I like dipping the dip. Like literally like it's Chipotle. Queso? Queso is pretty damn good.
Starting point is 00:22:21 It's the best. God, it's so good. I buy both the dips. Their dip and the dip. But crypto, you know, I'm kind of like waiting C mode on all that stuff. You know, I mean, if I lose it 100% overnight and it comes back a little, I'm like, all right, I'm just going to dip right out of that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Dip out. You know what I'm saying, Nick? Coming right out of it. I did like this. this will be our final article today we got to keep it short people you're this is summertime you don't need to be listening to this you need to be on a beach somewhere and enjoy your time off the soul cycle this is a great one exchanges use peloton bikes for in-person classes this is brilliant and it's so good good marketing so good because they can use the bikes in their studios right
Starting point is 00:23:05 right right exactly uh so workout studio soul cycle is offering to exchanged used peloton bikes for 47 free in-studio classes as part of its new souls reunited program there you go heralding the slogan, fuck riding solo. They use a hashtag. Right, right, right. That would have gone on. Soul Cycle will collect used Peloton bikes free of charge and recycle them. It's part of a larger campaign.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Fuck it, let's ride. To get people back in person. Which pushes the return of in-person workouts. This is brilliant. They can use them. I mean, anybody that does stuff at home. Double entendres. So much going on there.
Starting point is 00:23:48 A lot of fun. So much. I'm here for it. And, you know, I am intrigued by getting a Peloton. But I want the treadmill, not the bike. Sure. I'm not a biker. I would get on there and run and do climbing and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:24:02 But fun. Enjoyed it. Good stuff. Tight 25 minutes today. I hope everyone's out there having a great rest of the summer. Summer's coming to close faster than we like, people. Enjoy it, though. Enjoy it. You know where to find us? The Radcast.com
Starting point is 00:24:17 Search for Peloton. You'll find all the highlight clips we've ever talked about Peloton and especially today. Fuck it, let's ride. Yeah. Fuck it, let's ride. Go, fuck it, let's ride. And go enjoy your friends tomorrow and have an avocado on Sunday. There you go. Tell the Radcast
