Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast. Here is the Radcast News. It's Friday, June 3rd, 2022. And welcome to our weekly marketing and news episode. I'm joined by the lovely Christina Yossi. Hello, hello. Back again. Back again. I'm your host, Ryan Alford. Glad to have you today.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Hope everyone wherever whenever however you are is fabulous. Yeah. And staying cool. It's heating up here. It has been sticky this week hasn't it? Sticky and hot. I got a black car with black everything and it's like you get in and it's sauna in here. Let me roll the windows down and get a fire hydrant out. Yep, there you go. There you go. Crack an egg and you could have
Starting point is 00:00:49 that thing cooking in about 10 seconds on my dashboard. I bet. I bet. Over easy. Anyway, it's been a good week.
Starting point is 00:00:56 How's your week been? It's been good. It's been good. My insomnia has been bad, but aside from that, yeah, but it's great. It's what good concealer's for.
Starting point is 00:01:14 No, it'll never go. it's concealing right exactly very concealing uh yeah i've i don't know i've rarely had trouble sleeping well i've had it since high school and it's always worse this time of year i don't know why but i've had doctors be like yep just have fun with it so i read a lot. I mean, I'll stay up too late sometimes. Sure. But like once I'm ready to go to sleep, generally I can get there. Oh, it's 2 a.m.?
Starting point is 00:01:32 Cool, I'll just be awake. But the few times it has happened, it is not a fun thing. Well, and my dad would kill me if he knew this, but the nice thing about living in an apartment is like I've gone down to my fitness center at like 2 or 3 in the morning and run on the treadmill for 30 minutes read my lips no try
Starting point is 00:01:48 to wear myself out and then I'll go back up to bed at 2 a.m yeah two or three yeah I mean I got up at 5 a.m this is not normal not normal behavior no i wouldn't recommend yeah so it's been a good week i did see this it did it was a late breaking it didn't make the article but i thought it was interesting heineken has developed a new bottle opener oh that. It's called the Closer. I can get behind that. When you open up a bottle,
Starting point is 00:02:31 it somehow, I guess maybe it's Bluetooth or something, it turns off your laptop. All the apps, your work apps, turn off. That's kind of nice. You can actually unplug a little bit. Unplug the Closer. It's called the Closer. The appliance resembles a traditional bottle opener with Heineken branding.
Starting point is 00:02:48 It depicts use cases. People feel overloaded with work demands and then quickly unplug as snapping off a Heineken bottle top simultaneously shutting down the laptop. Offline. It's kind of interesting. Yeah. I don't know how exactly it does that functionality. No idea. But you're right. It's kind of interesting. Yeah. I don't know how exactly it does that functionality.
Starting point is 00:03:07 No idea. But you're right. It's got to be Bluetooth. And it just like is a do not disturb setting probably. I guess. Nick, you need one of those? The closer?
Starting point is 00:03:15 Definitely. I'm going to go buy one. I know. You need one that like shuts your phone down too. Like, you know, it's like, at least goes into like do not disturb mode.
Starting point is 00:03:26 Totally present, yeah. Hey, don't mess with the music. Keep the Bluetooth going because my Bluetooth speaker is playing. Yeah, leave the music alone. Yeah, because you know it's probably playing. No, I'm turning on Nicki. Nicki Minaj.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Oh, sorry. I'm more of a Doja Cat person myself. Oh no. That's too new school. You need the old school. You know? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:58 So it's been a good week. I hope everyone checked out the Radcast on Tuesday. Old Tracy. She's so cool. Tracy Dews came on. I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. The queen of elixirs.
Starting point is 00:04:09 I never get tired of saying that. Maybe never want to wear shoes again. Yeah. I love my shoes. I'm glad everyone at work is keeping their shoes. Well, Nick has on flip flops, but it'd get pretty stinky around here. Yeah, yeah. No shoes.
Starting point is 00:04:22 It could. It certainly could. There'd be an aroma. No shoes, no shirt, no problem is my good friend who sings that song. Oh, Kenny.
Starting point is 00:04:30 There you go. Kenny Disney. There you go. Testing the country music. Yeah, I'm going to feel that every time. Yes. Next week,
Starting point is 00:04:38 JJ, owner, founder of Ace of Spades, PR, personal branding, and a magician. Ex-musician. Jay was cool.
Starting point is 00:04:51 He owns a PR company down in Miami. And really cool. We talked a lot about personal branding, what it takes, the reality of it, and how it's not about the fake bullshit anymore. It's about thought leadership, being out there, leveraging PR connection, connection, all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Jay was great. Uh, so check that out on Tuesday. So if you hadn't listened to Tracy's, listen to her, but all the reasons you need to be drinking more water, yes, structured water and the quality of your water,
Starting point is 00:05:20 quality of your water matters. Exactly. And next week, Jay, Jay will get you pumped up on personal branding and why you need to be doing it. So be on the lookout for those. I thought Tracy was cool, though.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Yeah. Cool, cool, cool. So great. Any other news from the week to highlight? I think that we've got, I mean, Father's Day is this month, and I think we've got a great gift option. Yes, we do. With our branded bills. Yes, we do. With our branded bills.

Starting point is 00:07:09 We get some fun holidays, don't we? Yeah, I know. What's today? Today is Global Running Day, which I celebrated at 3. I'm going to text my wife that she must be tired because she's been running through my mind all day. Oh, not bad. It's not good. It's not good, but it's not bad.
Starting point is 00:07:33 It's a dad joke. I get it. are you a runner do you run i run but away from my problems yeah uh yes uh that wasn't that was my i was projecting no i was projecting. No. I was projecting. I'm tired. I haven't slept. Yes, I run, but I'm not like a runner. I'm a two to three mile guy. Okay, totally. I'm a big dude, like pounding on the knees at like 10 miles is a little much. I'm not a marathon person. Yeah, but I do like it because I feel like it burns the most calories the fastest for me, being a big guy,
Starting point is 00:08:06 versus any of the other stuff. So I will do it a couple times a week. Totally. Either outside or on the treadmill. Nicole and I have been running a little bit around downtown after work with the kids. Nice. Global Running Day is today. Yeah, which tomorrow, after you run today exactly
Starting point is 00:08:26 this is my favorite feed your face with some donuts on national donut day donut day cannot go wrong donuts galore do you have a favorite donut i do uh it's called a sour cream donut that's my favorite oh everyone thinks i'm so weird are you serious i'm gonna bring him into the office i'm gonna going to do it. That's my very favorite. It's also National Hug Your Cat Day, which I will be celebrating. No!
Starting point is 00:08:56 Actually, my cat was off, obviously. Part of why I haven't been sleeping. Man. That's a successful plumbing system. That's how it's supposed to work right there, people. Full flush, all the way down, with the trickle in the tank. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:13 No doubles. No doubles. No courtesy flushes here. We flushed that cat right down. No. Well, hugging the cat. How do you hug a cat anyway? They don't even want you to pet them.
Starting point is 00:09:21 My cat's very snuggly. He will run to the door when I get home and wants me to pick him up. And I just toss him over my shoulder. Well, that's unusual. Little buddy. He is very weird. It's also National Old Maid's Day. Yeah, some foreshadowing there.
Starting point is 00:09:35 That's where you're headed. Cat lady, one day, to old maid the next. My dad has been doing stuff like that. You weren't self-aware enough to know when that light switch flips. Oh, man. It'll be one day or the next. Listen, I have enough cat T-shirts to know that it's coming. It's like I cannot have any more cat T-shirts.
Starting point is 00:09:50 You are self-aware of the stigma with cat ladies, right? Oh, yes. And yet you still live and breathe it. I lean into it. Okay. I lean into it. All right. It's part of my personal branding.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Okay. Hallelujah. You know the cat lady stigma, right, Nick? Yeah. Well aware of it, right? Well aware. Do you date girls that are cat ladies? Not usually.
Starting point is 00:10:15 I don't know who dodged what bullet with that one, though. Yeah, I know, right? Yeah. But it's like being a single mom. It's like, oh, you don't like my cat? Guess not. Guess there's no future here. Yeah. But it's like being a single mom. It's like, oh, you don't like my cat? Guess not. Guess there's no future here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:26 But everyone loves my cat. Well, June 5th, someone send me a text, because I'll forget about this by the time Sunday rolls around. National Bubbly Day. Perfect day for mimosas. Yes. And I mean, bubbly is just champagne, right? Champagne, Prosecco.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Yeah. Any fizzy. I don't think it's National Bubbly Personality Day. Yeah, that's what I guess I was going on like. Sometimes I've misinterpreted these holidays. Sparkling water, I guess. Yes. That would work.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Yeah, that's what it is. We've got lots of food this month or this week. And then June 7th is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Nash is going to be so happy for that. It's really National Chocolate Ice Cream Day for him every day.
Starting point is 00:11:11 He gets a scoop before bed almost every night. Rightfully so. Yeah. Rightfully so. On June 7th I'll make sure
Starting point is 00:11:17 that he gets it. And then I can't talk like it but hopefully Nick will add some sound effects after the fact for National Donald Duck Day.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Oh, yeah. It's like, I can't do it. I can't. I can't. I don't know how to go there. We'll fix it in post. We'll fix it in post. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 But two days ago, June 1st, would have been Marilyn Monroe's 96th birthday, which I think is interesting. I love Marilyn Monroe. Love her movies. Iconic. Very. Very attractive, too. Beautiful woman. So tragic. I know. Such a tragic life. Too young.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Too young and D-Day. Yeah. The 78th anniversary. Yes. We've had multiple back-to-back kind of military and or reminder patriotic. So 78th anniversary. Yes. So we've had multiple back-to-back kind of military and or reminder. Yeah, patriotic. Patriotic. Yeah. So 78th anniversary.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Man. Isn't that crazy? And I know it was way before our time, but still it's like the years are adding up. That's still not that long ago, which is what's incredible. 78. So someone, I guess there's probably still maybe a few living at participants. They'd be right around 100, but I'm sure there's a handful. Thank you for your service.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yes, thank you. And hopefully we aren't headed towards World War III. Maybe in the metaverse. Yeah. Speaking of that. Segway. Segway. Trends in the metaverse.
Starting point is 00:12:46 You know, almost all marketing news this day is somewhat related to the metaverse or NFTs, it would appear. But this was pretty cool. And since you're such a fashion queen, I'm going to let you tee it up. Am I spearheading this one? Yeah. I mean, anything with Gucci in it. Of course. And it's Italian, like me.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Gucci opens persistent digital space on Roblox. They have several already, but a virtual piazza called Gucci Town includes mini game heights, a creative corner for creating art pieces, an exhibition space called Vault Plaza, a shop that sells digital Gucci items, and a power-up place where community members can meet and interact. Users can earn inexperienced currency called GG Gems and purchase virtual items. It's a whole town. Hey, Gucci Town. It sounds like a song.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Gucci Town. I think we should start a radcast rap song called Gucci Town. Oh, I'm too white for that. You're welcome to try. Oh, you know, I don't know. I'll bring my ukulele in. Oh, I'm too white for that. You're welcome to try. Oh, you know, I don't know. I'll bring my ukulele in. Yeah, all right. But with Gucci Town,
Starting point is 00:13:48 the luxury brand is looking to carve out a permanent space in Roblox that will evolve over time, demonstrating its commitment to the concept of a metaverse. So I'm going to do a little education here. Persistent digital space means that it's living, living breathing and changes as you
Starting point is 00:14:07 and not just like every time so like non-persistent would be i mean you know for anyone that played like mario brothers every time you start mario brothers it starts from the beginning and it's exactly the same persistent means it stays online it's's online. It evolves. It evolves so that theoretically if there's a bush in a persistent metaverse and someone trims it and you come on five hours later, it's still trimmed. Right. And it's not the same original bush from like starting the original. Yeah, it's got to stay relevant. Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:39 So it's going to be persistent, which is going to be interesting to see how Gucci evolves in a persistent place. I wonder, you know, I'm going to be smacking you with my Louis Vuitton in Gucci town. They're trying to converge the metaverse with the real world and digital experiences. Lots of luxury brands have done this with NFTs to generate income and more engagement with consumers. Yeah. I mean, think about these brands, even though some of the stuff's more
Starting point is 00:15:06 expensive, like the luxury brands. It can stay luxury, but maybe be more attainable. So they open up their audience base, which makes sense. As long as it doesn't start to creep into brand affinity and the perception of luxury
Starting point is 00:15:21 if it becomes too attainable. Accessible, yeah. And then you do have brands like American Eagle, Gap, and Forever 21 have also ventured into Roblox. So it is interesting. You're going to have all these stuck-up avatars in Gucci Town, and I'll be hanging out at Gap.
Starting point is 00:15:41 In the Republic, right. I'll be at Forever 21. H&M t-shirts. Yeah. There you go. Yes. And like, man, look at her. She's going into Gucci town.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Her Gucci fanny pack. Yeah. She must be so loaded in the metaverse. Oh, my gosh. How many coins does she have? Oh, my God. Gigi terms. Gigi money?
Starting point is 00:16:03 Gigi gems. Yes. Gigi gems. Any coin. I meanigi money? Gigi gems. Yes. I mean, put her Gigi gems in her Louis Vuitton pairs. Cross branding. Hey, I like it. It's cool. South Korea is investing $177
Starting point is 00:16:18 million directly in metaverse platforms. Woof. Hello. The government of South Korea has announced it will start investing in metaverse platforms. Hello. The government of South Korea has announced it will start investing in metaverse projects directly. More than $177 million will be invested to kickstart national jobs and companies in the field. That says they're Minister of Science and Information
Starting point is 00:16:39 and Communication Technology. South Korea is one of the first countries to put funds into this field. It's an investment part of a new tech focus South Korea has included in its digital new deal. Wow. Is that the new deal? Right.
Starting point is 00:16:55 What was that? JFK? Not JFK. What president was the new deal? Was it Roosevelt? Hoover? I don't know. Roosevelt?
Starting point is 00:17:03 FDR. FDR. That's what it was i should good history there i know that's an annie could ask my 12 year old you know he's studying history right now a set of guidelines that the government is following to push citizens to transition to a fully digital society i mean it's a little eerie when you live in a smaller footprint of a country yeah and all you have is North Korea above you, I'd want to get in that digital world as fast as possible too.
Starting point is 00:17:29 It's like escapism. It really is so fascinating that their government is funding this. Yeah. As long as Kim Jong-un stays out of... God, it makes my skin crawl. Think about it. You know, and I get it, I guess, but $177 million is a lot of money for South Korea.
Starting point is 00:17:45 A lot of money for any government, but a lot for South Korea. For your government to be... Again, I can't get past the fact that it's being taken so seriously. I think people are starting to give up on the real world a little too quickly. I agree. I'm not there yet. There's still hope. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:18:03 What else we got? This might make me give up on the real world though hey i've got this i got some personal opinions on this next one tamagotchi kids could the future of parenthood be having virtual children in the metaverse katriona campbell one of the uk's leading authorities on artificial intelligence believes that within 50 years technology will have advanced to such an extent that babies which exist in the metaverse are indistinct from those in the real world. Technology has come a long way since the 90s. Campbell says virtual children will look like you and will be able to play with you and you can cuddle them they will be able to simulate emotional responses as well as speech
Starting point is 00:18:45 which will range from goo goo gaga to back chat as they grow older this comes to us from the guardian theguardian.com interesting uh i will say this there's definitely a segment and i'm not i'm not gonna say who's the judge i'm just saying it strikes me that certain people might be focused on maybe some meta children and not real children. Right, right. Because they can barely keep up with themselves. So they should practice in the metaverse. I'll keep my political beliefs to myself on this one. Yeah, like so it's not even politics.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Mine's just an opinion of like the lack of parenting that I see going around. I'm like, Jesus, like, you know, maybe they need to practice in the metaverse first. Simulation. Simulation. I mean, you know. Like we do with the military. Yeah. Yeah, practice your parenthood.
Starting point is 00:19:39 See how bad it is? Right, right. You don't need to have a real kid. And we can simulate birth for men so they can know what it's like. There you go. Nick's already signed up for that. they can know what it's like. There you go. Nick's already signed up for that. He's doing LeMans classes in the men's verse. Cats won't look so bad after that.
Starting point is 00:19:51 You'll be like, I'll be a cat dad. That's fine. Lots of screams on this one. That would be me with giving birth. Oh, yes. Nick. Read my lips. No. I will say this. Read my lips. No.
Starting point is 00:20:06 I will say this. This is interesting. It's a little scary. This sounds like Westworld, especially when they start talking about virtual children that are exact like you. Yeah. Procreating.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Babies which exist in the middle of Earth are indistinct from those in the real world. Within 50 years. Yeah. Well, that's fair world. Within 50 years. Yeah. Well, that's fair within the... That's what she thinks. I mean, yeah. Only time will tell.
Starting point is 00:20:31 The writing's kind of on the wall a bit for this, as much as it's being thrown into it, but it's still like, I don't know, 50 years. I'd be an old geezer by then. You'd be pretty old yourself there. I'm going to be a pretty sassy 70-year-old. Listen. Listen to me. Do all that hot yoga. I'm going to be a pretty sassy 70 year old. Listen, listen to me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Do that. Do all that hot yoga. I'm going to be fine. Yes. Yes. 3 a.m. Runs. I know.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Hot yoga. We are next door to us is a good partner. Soul yoga, who it does hot yoga right next to us. And it's warm. It is. Uh huh. It'll get you going.
Starting point is 00:21:04 So if you're in Greenwood, go check out Soul Yoga. Talk about calorie burning. Yeah. Plugging our partners here. So moving on, moving out of our trends in the metaverse. American Girl is unveiling a podcast network rooted in the brand's characters. The network, known only as AG, will consist of ad-free shows touching on a range of themes and formats and launched with three original shows. American Girl 10-Minute Mysteries will be scripted and adapted from the brand's slate of published content.
Starting point is 00:21:42 adapted from the brand's slate of published content. American Girl Fan Club and the Smart Girls Podcast will be nonfiction style and features a slate of guests and behind-the-scenes content. The content is produced with Jess Weiner and Cloud 10 Media. Cloud 10 Media. Got it. I'm so excited about this. I would have been all over this as a kid.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Yeah, this makes a lot of sense to me. Currently, 62% of Americans have listened to a podcast and 79% are aware of them. That's just like this one, folks. Here we are. If you're listening, you are on the forefront and you need to tell others to listen. Like and subscribe.
Starting point is 00:22:20 But this makes a lot of sense. Yeah. I mean, it's like the kids are listening to audio anyway with music and different things. They have this brand affinity built in. American Girls, like the most popular. I don't know. What's the age group? It's up there with Barbie.
Starting point is 00:22:38 It's up by Mattel. Was it like four to seven, four to eight? Like eight to 12. A little older than that. Is it a little older than that? Okay. But I mean, no one plays with toys anymore so i think it's really smart for them to keep their relevance and starting a podcast so uh it says that children
Starting point is 00:22:54 have also gotten into podcasts with 48 of kids between 13 and 17 have listened to a podcast in 2020 so it's probably higher than that now totally that's where the stats from um podcast listing is also higher than previous years at 32 percent for their demo of 8 to 12 and currently podcast advertising is eight percent of all digital audio spend an increased 60 percent 68 percent year over year i'll say this um. Speaking of that, we are accepting new sponsors. So if you were to be listening and you want to tap into our 150,000 downloads a month, it'd be a good time to plug that. With our worldwide audience.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Let's not forget that. It is worldwide. We're top 100 in seven countries. And we did hit back in the top 100 on Apple just this week. One million downloads. Let's not forget that. One million. We did. We didn't even talk about that this week. One million downloads. Let's not forget that. One million, we did. We didn't even talk about that last week.
Starting point is 00:23:48 That's just how ingrained it's gotten. One million downloads. It's relevant, and I think American Girl is on to something here. Because it will take, for that audience, for that demo to kind of increase, the content has to bring it.
Starting point is 00:24:04 It's not it's chicken the egg well why aren't more children listening because they don't have content they haven't had podcasts for that demo right so i think this will bring it along i agree kind of paving the way maybe we need a radcast like you know for kids or something i can spearhead that i got you i got you let's children's theater over. We need to start them early, you know? Get them on the radcast bandwagon. There we go. What's next here? Miller Lite fires up the grill with beer-infused charcoal.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Just in time for summer. Miller Lite Beer Coal is intended to flavor grilled foods with the taste of Miller Lite. With four-pound bags available to purchase online at MillerLiteBeerCole.com for $11.99 plus shipping, the It's Griller Time campaign is a play on It's Miller Time, the long-used slogan of the beer. Beer Cole is the latest taste-based initiative from the brewer following flavor drops that went on sale during March Madness. Similar to the drops, Beer Cole was released to coincide with Memorial Day. It acts as the unofficial marker of summer when beer sales tend to spike. I really like this.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Makes a ton of sense. I love this. You grill and you kind of cook with beer anyway. Great. I thought the beer drops, the suckers were a little weird, but cool. This, it makes tons of sense. Right? Do you think it actually works? I have no idea, but cool. This, it makes tons of sense. Right? Do you think it actually works?
Starting point is 00:25:27 I have no idea, but I want to try it. And I have like a Traeger, so I don't know. I'm going to have to figure out. I don't have a charcoal grill, but I might have to buy one of those temporary ones. Is there any charcoal grill people listening? Please sponsor us. This is great. This is great brand extension.
Starting point is 00:25:43 This is what you do when you have a brand. You're trying to do something to extend your brand, get more borrowed interest from certain holidays, from certain interests. Look, if you're a beer drinker, you're probably a griller. So this is the connecting the dots of the brand versus your target versus the things that they do versus the time of year. This is how you do brand extension marketing.
Starting point is 00:26:04 I'm going to give it another clap for Miller Lite. And the Miller Lite, and then it's Miller time, it's Griller time. I love that. I love a quippy remark. Hallelujah. Agreed. What's next?
Starting point is 00:26:17 Pepsi spins cola-infused pepperoni pizza and latest better with Pepsi push. This is is pretty fun too and uh i saw uh i do uh interact and connected and share content back and forth with the cmo of pepsi and i saw him talk about this exact thing it was uh pepsi flavored pepperonis uh and uh they did it they did a pepsi uh pepsi flavored pepperonis which looked kind of interesting pepsi last week introduced a pizza topped with soda infused pepperoni first national pizza party day on may 20th pepsi is capitalizing on success from past efforts to associate its soda with favorite foods under the better with pepsi banner the new push draws on data that shows 72 percent
Starting point is 00:27:05 of national pizza chains serve pepsi including pizza at little caesar's papa john's and papa murphy's it suggests about nine and ten people recommend pepsi pepsi alongside pizza okay i mean so they have the data to back it up it's fun it's cool yeah i mean i thought it was it can't be bad either right i mean no i mean it's probably like can't be bad either, right? It's a good PR. I mean, no. I mean, it's probably like a sweeter. Exactly. It's a sweeter tasting. I bet you it's a sweeter tasting pepperoni.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Yeah. It's just limited supply. I was kind of hoping. And I think they used diet Pepsi, so it's not adding any calories. Pepsi zero sugar. Pepperoni. There you go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:41 That's pretty good. You don't need any more calories with that pepperoni. Oof. With the pizza. I kind of love pizza. I might have a need any more calories in that pepperoni. Oof. With the pizza. I kind of love pizza. I might have a pizza. I might have some QT pizza for lunch. Can't go wrong.
Starting point is 00:27:50 That sounds too bad, does it, Nick? Not at all. I'm excited about this. You pick it up when I'm throwing down? Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. Yes, sir. What's up next?
Starting point is 00:28:02 The 80s are back, at least in ad design. So why the resurgence? Serif fonts and simple graphics could be a response to years of sans serif startup. Fonts in millennial pink. It could also be part of the broader nostalgia marketing trends that's happening as people cope with the issues of today. Everything is always better in the past, or so it seems. Everything is always better in the past, or so it seems. Arafili Gunari, Zoomer and founder of Gen Z social media agency, The Z-Link, loves the 80s editorial look so much, she made a TikTok about it.
Starting point is 00:28:36 I got so many comments from people saying that the design themselves made them want to buy the products and check them out. She credits its popularity in part to the sense of nostalgia that's popular among Gen Z and millennials, even if many weren't alive in the 80s. Yeah, I was alive in the 80s, so I loved the 80s. That's why I love Stranger Things, which I just started season four of last night. Pretty interesting. I did fall asleep. Back to not having trouble sleeping. It was no reflection of the show. It was more it just started creeping in closer to my snoozy time.
Starting point is 00:29:04 That's a phrase I've never heard before. Yes. Old snoozy time. Nick knew a phrase I've never heard before. Yes. Old snoozy time. Nick knew what I meant. Copyright trademark. Yes, exactly. Hallelujah. That's what I say when I get to snoozy time. So Burger King changed their logo back to like their 80s thing. There's a lot of trends
Starting point is 00:29:20 moving in this direction. And I agree. When I see stuff that's in the 80s, I tend to want to buy it more. Which is interesting because I know my mom will see things and she's like, oh, God, please no. My mom's a little bit older than you are. But it's interesting where that generational dynamic is. And somebody's been telling me tape cassettes are coming back.
Starting point is 00:29:36 No way. I'm like, jeez, that's such a pain. I can get behind LPs and get behind records. I totally got the records thing. Cassette tapes? Cassette tapes. Come on. They say it'll just sound so bad it's good. I'm like, records. I totally got the records thing, but cassette tapes, come on. They say it just sounds so bad it's good.
Starting point is 00:29:46 I'm like, eh, I don't know about that. I listened to so many audio books on cassette tape when I was a kid because I was homeschooled. Yeah, I don't know about that, but I do like the 80s look, and I am starting to catch it in a lot of design stuff, and I think that nostalgia and things like Stranger Things is going to bring that. So if you're thinking about a little brand change-up, lean towards...
Starting point is 00:30:09 Look back, not forward. There you go. Finally today, TikTok is testing a clear mode for a distraction-free scrolling experience. So essentially when you open the app and you start scrolling, you've got
Starting point is 00:30:25 the comments and the hashtag or the, um, all the buttons caption gone, all the stuff's kind of out of your way and it's just the content. And a lot of people have requested that because sometimes it gets cut off some of the video anyway. You can't take screenshots and trying to say recipes. So it makes sense to me. It's going to, if you're a marketer, you've got to rethink then if people are scrolling a lot without the hashtags, or not without the hashtags, but the caption. So if you know the caption probably isn't being seen, you might still need it for, like, I'll call it the SEO value, i.e. you're still getting pushed up by the algorithm based on maybe some of those hashtags and content.
Starting point is 00:31:03 But if you know that it's likely not being read, it might make you rethink the actual video. You might put more of the words on screen on the video or just make sure that your message is being fully conveyed via the video itself and not be counting on. I think most people are doing that anyway because you can't really count on the caption being read. But I think on some level it makes it deprioritizes it even more it's there are some like comedic accounts that i follow and i think that the caption is such a nice addition and
Starting point is 00:31:34 makes it funnier so i'm interested to see what like what your performers are going to do with you know with this option it truly puts another meaning on hashtag no caption needed. Verily, verily. I don't know. Hallelujah. But yeah, it's such an immersive platform. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:58 It makes sense. It'll be interesting how that test goes if it rolls out more universally. Permanently, right. We'll see. But if you aren't on TikTok, you need to get there see but if you aren't on tiktok you need to get there and if you aren't there you need to call us because we can help you all set up for
