Starting point is 00:00:00 It has to start somewhere. It has to start sometime. What better place than here? What better time than now? You're listening to the latest Radcast News Update. Here's Ryan and Riley. Hey guys, welcome to the latest edition of the Radcast News. I hope everyone's having a wonderful semi-almost holiday season. We're coming up on Thanksgiving a week from today. This will release on a Friday and you may listen to it four months from now. And if you are, you can just imagine being a week away from turkey eating and boozing or doing whatever you do on Friendsgiving, Thanksgiving, whatever there is now, Riley. Exactly, exactly. Yeah. How's your week been?
Starting point is 00:00:51 It's been good. Good, good, good. It's been, my wife had shoulder surgery, and so we're two weeks into that, and she was in a lot of pain this morning. Yeah. morning. Yeah. So it's been interesting. My wife is very independent, very like doesn't never sits down like on the call. Like I don't sit down much, you know, at night or something like chilling or like a Saturday watching football, but I can kind of turn it off when I need to. Right. She never turns it off. It just never goes off. So to be in a sling and supposed to be stable uh it's not been good for her so uh it's been a challenging two weeks for the Alford family
Starting point is 00:01:30 why we uh try to keep her from uh overdoing it right right right no I get that that's funny other than that it's been good business is good we've got a couple new clients in this week um in the textiles business which is a niche that we've been growing in. And so it's exciting. Business is good. Family's decent. Family is awesome, but decent just because of extraneous circumstances with shoulder surgery. But how about you? No, it's been good. Great week, actually actually my mom is actually coming down today my cousin's getting married actually in easily so i know it's super random so uh we're gonna be there for the wedding and then i feel like i've been having so many weddings recently everyone's getting married
Starting point is 00:02:16 even during covid exactly it's really funny i didn't i've never heard of something like mike our creative director is going he's going to New Jersey next week. Right. If they let him in the state with the pandemic. Exactly. But one of his nieces or something is getting married. I've never heard of so many Thanksgiving month weddings. Same. Yeah. So, I mean, I'm excited, though.
Starting point is 00:02:38 I mean, you know, you're always down for a good time. But I'm just kind of like, you know, still a little mindful about, you know, COVID and everything. But there we are yeah and so I'm excited if you're listening to our news episode I encourage you to check out the video option that we'll have on our Facebook page on our Instagram pages as well as YouTube where all our video episodes go. Correct. We're demoing slash, well, it's no longer demoing. We are in active use of a more high quality production studio software. Yes. So our video has become a lot more dynamic and more truly like a TV show. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:21 And so Riley's been perfecting that this week. Yes. Yes. Currently doing it as we're speaking, but that's awesome. It's great to have it here. She's live producing as we speak, changing camera angles, changing different things. We've got like five cameras in here and different things. So definitely go check out that if you're listening to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, or any of our lovely partners that uh push out our podcast uh please go check out the video version it is pretty dynamic adds a little more uh context and interest
Starting point is 00:03:56 to the episodes uh when you're doing if you have some time visually so uh check it out and you can stream it live to your tv if you've got uh you know, I know you, I know there's a lot, you've got Bachelorette on, you've got The Crown or you're watching old episodes of Game of Thrones. You can stream the Radcast on your TV and play some of that. And it's going to be. You can binge watch every episode. You really can.
Starting point is 00:04:23 You really can. And our episodes are fun. And this is just going to add a whole other layer to it. So I'm excited for it for sure. Anything else by way of news we should bring up just with the Radcast or anything else with the agency? The only other thing is we're bringing back GVL Hustle. So anyone in the Greenville area that listens to the podcast, we encourage you to look up the GVL Hustle event. It's December 3rd. And apart from that, there's tickets online for
Starting point is 00:04:53 through the Facebook event. It's $12 ahead of time, 15 at the door. We have a food truck and beer and wine and yeah. Lots of good networking. and we're going to do some Q&A. This is kind of, we call it community collaboration, networking, any adjective you want to throw in there. But the purpose of this is really to bring together our local business community, entrepreneur community, just doers, shakers, movers that want to get together. We're going to be doing it safely inside and out. Mask will be provided. So, you know, but we're ready to, you know, get the community back together again. And we're excited to bring back
Starting point is 00:05:37 GVL Hustle for December 3rd. Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited. It'll be good. This will be my first GVL Hustle event. So, you know, that's's gonna be exciting all right cool well here's riley with the news here is the radcast news okay guys so our weekly news update this week we are covering uh four topics um the first one is philadelphia cream cheese and they are kind of mocking the way game consoles highlight their new, you know, obviously consoles. Last week, what was it? What was the PS5 or whatever came out? And all those, you know. PS5, Xbox, X5.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Like there's so many numbers. But I'm actually getting into this because my kids all want these things for Christmas. But yes, exactly. Exactly. It's funny because this campaign, I think, really proves the way that, you know, you could actually bring humor into the way the ad looks, I'll pull it up here. The way it even looks, you know, you're having a, here, there it is. You have the console and it looked like the cheesecake pan looks like the console. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:55 I love this. It's so smart. It is. It's so cute. It's brilliant because it's what I call anyone listening. This is a term in marketing. I don't know if it's as aware as others, but I call this borrowed interest. So you've got a time and place where you've got two companies.
Starting point is 00:07:11 You've got Sony and Microsoft, who makes Xbox, spending millions of dollars on promoting these new consoles. So you have the awareness level out there for obviously gamers, but even the general consumer might you know the average consumer parents and otherwise are aware of these consoles coming out and then you've got philadelphia cream cheese using a brilliant approach where they tap into the look and feel they the box looks like a gaming console the pan like it all plays into almost like it is and playing off the speeds and feeds. It's got all the newest features. I know. And it's, you know, you have the 3D cookie crumble
Starting point is 00:07:50 and it's, it's funny. Like that's, it's just clever. It's clever the way they brought it all in together. And so sometimes borrowed inches can be a bad thing, I think. But generally speaking, I love it because you have active attention around something. And if you can lean into that, I think you're seeing a lot of this with TikTok and other things. Some of these things that go viral are generally borrowing interest from something and making it funny, making it interesting. I think this is brilliant. I think it's really good marketing. I think it's much needed in a time of everything being serious. Which we're going to talk about a couple of things that we like too that are more on the serious level for sure but at the same time um
Starting point is 00:08:28 great campaign here absolutely and uh really loving the work absolutely so our next article is about honda they are bringing in i think this is interesting how they're targeting their their audience are trying to get into the digital live stream, you know, service field, whatever, platform. And they're targeting the Twitch users, showing them a little sneak peek of their new Honda Civic. So that's, I like how they brought this in. Yep, I love it. Esports, one of the fastest growing segments.
Starting point is 00:09:04 We've had a whole series on the Radcast dedicated to uh esports one of the fastest growing segments we've had a whole series on the radcast dedicated to the esports uh slowed down a bit as far as the live sponsorship engagement just because of covid unfortunately but gaming as a whole in esports competition online is growing immensely and twitch is the number one platform for watching the viewership of people playing games for anyone listening that doesn't know what Twitch is it's like the I'd call it the YouTube meets
Starting point is 00:09:34 live stream of watching people play games someone listening that watches Twitch all the time it's so much more than that I know there's a lot more to it uh settle down so much time to talk about twitch i mean this is supposed to be a 20 minute episode exactly uh so yes go if and so tons of of gen z millennials older women and men that game all the
Starting point is 00:10:01 time watch a ton of hours i think the average daily viewership is like 17 million people now. So it's legit. And it makes a ton of sense. You know, Honda looked at, you know, who's buying the Civic. And their biggest audiences are the Gen Zs and Millennials since 2011. I looked at that stat. And so they're going to where their audience is. And that's what you do.
Starting point is 00:10:23 And it's smart. You meet your audience. And so they're going to where their audience is. Right. And that's what you do. You meet your audience. And so, you know, another, I don't want to call a nail in the coffin of TV per se. I know that there's civics going to be all over TV and stuff like that. So don't need those guys either.
Starting point is 00:10:35 TV's not dead. Yes, it's not. But there's so many other channels and there's other places. And the eyeballs, let me just tell you, the average Gen Z or millennial is not watching linear TV. Exactly. So you have to go and meet your audience where they are. Honda's doing that with the release of their 22 Civic. And I love it. Yeah, it's really excellent. Our next article is something that I think ties into even the episode that we had come out earlier this week with Mike, you know, you guys talked about empathetic marketing and why it's important and why it's something that needs to be brought into more, you know, campaigns and just more effort. It's not from a, you know, you don't want to be
Starting point is 00:11:16 not genuine when you're doing something like this. You obviously want to have this genuine component to it and have it honestly, but, you you know truly had this thing they had uh they flew all their essential workers or essential workers home on private planes and i think it's a really sweet way to just kind of give back to the community especially when you're in a area and you're in a spot financially where you can do that and you can help other people you know that have been you know busting their butt all year you know like i. I think it's excellent they're doing that. So they've got a hashtag on Twitter. It's hashtag Truly Home Again.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And then there's a landing page on Truly's site. Side note, my wife and I actually drink a lot of Truly. For any seltzer company listening, I'll tell you what Truly got right. So all the seltzers to me, they're like a, you know, a water, like a seltzer, a fizzy water for lack of a non-technical way of saying that, a carbonated water. And they have flavor, but there's no sweetness. And I get that it's not meant to have sugar, but I'm kind of a, if I drink a gallon of water a day, so I love water. Right. But if I'm going to have flavor, I need a little stevia, a little sucralose, a little sweetness. I don't want sugar, but a little something. And Truly's nailed this with their new lemonades because they actually have a little bit of sweetness with the seltzer flavor.
Starting point is 00:12:39 So I'm a huge fan. So if you're a seltzer company, think the the the white space in a very crowded market is adding a little bit of sweetness to that so if anyone's listening go nail it there's your recommendation send me the check later purely from what we my my family will buy uh but exactly after that side note so you go to their website they're actually i think they've given some away but then they're doing a contest for additional ones. So you can nominate essential workers on the site up until the 27th, which I think is like a week away or next. Is that Black Friday potentially? It could be.
Starting point is 00:13:15 I feel like the days are blurring together anymore. I don't even really, I can't even really keep track of everything. You know, no one told me Thanksgiving was next week. Well, you know, it's practically canceled, you know, because no one's supposed to get together. But again, really great campaign using empathy, using a mindset and the reality of the world. You know that people want to give back to those essential workers. You know that there's everyone knows that they have helped keep things going during this pandemic. And really great campaign, really tapping into it.
Starting point is 00:13:48 And I'll say this, back to what I said, Seltzer is becoming a highly competitive, growing like wildfire. Absolutely. But we're getting real scattered with the brands. So this is a way for Truly to stand out and was becoming a crowded category, using empathy and using that consumer sentiment that's already there. So really great campaign. Absolutely. And then our last little thing today is more just an opinion, kind of how we feel about Twitter's fleets. They're bringing in stories. Which it may be truly fleeting. You're funny. No, but I think I just don't know how I feel about this like I remember even a few weeks ago when
Starting point is 00:14:27 LinkedIn brought in stories and part of me was like okay you know like I get it and then you know now for Twitter to have fleets part of me is like okay no now 24-hour tweets you know for the record I mean I feel like snapchat snapchat I felt like had a platform for stories Instagram and made sense for stories. Facebook did it because of Instagram and they bought Instagram, whatever. But Twitter, I don't really know that this is, I don't know. I don't really think this is actually
Starting point is 00:14:54 where another story should be going. But I mean, what do you think? I admire the technology advancement. I have no issue with innovation. I encourage it. I love innovation. I don't have any prognostication of whether this will last or fizzle out yet. My only issue is, for me, I do a lot of – I'm a consumer of Twitter more than an active participant.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I know that's terrible, but look, there's only so many hours in the day. We post some things, but most of my content is on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube. And so I consume a lot on Twitter, and what I see on Twitter is a lot of trolls and a lot of bad actors, bad behavior. And so that want to live behind the keyboard and troll on all kinds of stuff. And there's a lot of harassment and different things that happen on that platform, unfortunately.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Unfortunately. I feel like more so than the other platforms. And so I feel like this is just going to make it, you know, for those trolls and for the negative side of this, it's going to give them an avenue to potentially you know do it more and then there not be a record of it and so that's the only issue that i have and that i don't know where it'll go because of that does it have the potential to be great it's cool to be at the top of your thing it calls it out it's you know in the vein of stories in the vein of of snapchat or something like that
Starting point is 00:16:26 right it has the opportunity to thrive and be interesting as an evolution for the platform god there's just so many people on there that take advantage of being behind the keyboard more so and just trolling on everything i know it's so prevalent so i will see it's almost a different way than you can do it on in any other media platform, I feel like, to your point. Because there's, I mean, the outlet of Twitter is just the word, right? There's like, I mean, yeah, you can post pictures or whatever, but that's not necessarily what it was intended for. I mean, it was more of just like, you know, getting out like random little thoughts that were within like 150 characters or whatever it is. So to your point, I think it'll be interesting to see just where that goes and where it ends up. But I, you know, I think, I
Starting point is 00:17:10 don't know if this is going to create more of a regulating issue on it, you know, and I know that's been a thing anymore. Like, you know, now there's bigger regulation on, you know, more social media content. So I think that'll be interesting to see, like, actually where it goes and how it affects, you know, Twitter as a platform. Yes, I agree. And so we'll see. This is a we'll see one. And, you know, I have opinions on everything. But if I was more active posting on Twitter, I might have a stronger lean towards where this will go.
Starting point is 00:17:45 To me, it's more just an observation of some of the challenges I think it's going to have. But we'll see. Maybe they can dial it in. Absolutely. Absolutely. Well, that is it for this week. As far as our new segment goes, we do have, if you want to follow us along, I would love for you guys to follow us at the Radcast.
