Streaming live on the Black Star Network, more than 200,000 previously incarcerated felons are being notified that their voting rights are being restored, the national organizer of the voting rights campaign.
We'll explain. We'll also talk about Bishop William Barber's kickoff with his 100-day voter
mobilization tour this Saturday in North Carolina. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison
dropped his lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott for not extraditing an ICE agent back to
Minnesota after the agent appeared in court in that state. Opposition to the Protect College
Sports Act is growing as more people speak out about the damage it could do to college athletes.
We'll talk with the NACP's director of youth in college division. We'll also show you what got a white
McDonald's manager in Minneapolis,
fired. Wait to see this video
where he was verbally and physically assaulting
a black 16-year-old girl
and her friends. Also, we'll recap
the Chris Tucker Celebrity Golf Classic
that took place in Atlanta. It's time of the Green
the Funk. On Roland Martin Unfiltern on the Black Star Network,
let's go. More than 200,000
newly-reened franchise voters in Virginia
are being notified that their voting rights have been
restored ahead of the November
elections. However, voter restoration
will not apply if you have been convicted
of murder, voluntary manslaughter, or
involuntary manslaughter.
Campaign legal centers
restore your vote campaign
and restores voting rights to people
with past convictions.
The national organizer
restore your rights.
Jahe. Downey Joneses right now.
I'm glad to have you here. First off,
people are also don't realize
in Virginia, they have
a constitutional ballot
initiative that is on the ballot
that will automatically restore
voting rights to formally incarcerated.
This has been a battle for a very long
time and denying
voter rights to formally incarcerated
individuals, goes back to the 1900s and it was purely based upon racism.
You're absolutely right. Virginia historically has been one of the most difficult states to
vote if you have a prior felony conviction. Prior to this court order this year, Virginia
denied the right to vote to over 260 Virginians, and that's the fourth largest disenfranchised
population in the country. But after a series of court orders this year, including the most recent one,
last month, the state of Virginia
Commonwealth has now determined that only
those three that you just mentioned,
felonies, murder,
murder, involuntary, manslaughter, mass
lot, take a right of right to vote.
So it's a huge win for Virginians
that are now eligible to
vote on the amendment that you just spoke on.
How are they being notified?
Yeah, thank you.
So we, campaign legal center
also on the behalf of
the legal women voters, Virginia
and Virginia Gapton of Virginia,
came to an agreement with the elections office, also known as elect, to ensure that these newly
franchised Virginians were informed, and they agreed to send out mailers today, actually.
They should be going out. People should start receiving letters from the Virginia elections
office addressed to them by name, letting them know that they have been identified of having one
or more felony convictions that no longer take away the right to vote and to register.
Now, by being notified, do they then have to then register for November?
That is correct.
If y'all can pull the slide up of the deadline in Virginia, of course, we're coming up in about three weeks to most states of the deadline to actually register to vote.
And so, look, this is huge.
That 200,000.
If you look at the constitutional amendment in November, any idea of the number of formerly incarcerated,
individuals who could have their voting rights restored if that amendment is passed by the voters in November?
Yeah, well, I can say that so since this court order covered a vast majority of folks that were
disenfranchised, we went down from 260,000 people disenfranchised now to around 5,000.
So that 5,000 includes people that are incarcerated and not incarcerated, so I don't have the
exact number of how many people in prison that would be eligible coming out.
but overall that number
there's 5,000 people
that say the state is saying that is left on
the disenfranchised list.
Gotcha. Well, look, this is a huge, huge deal.
So congratulations on that.
And this is not just a Virginia issue.
You've got other states like Tennessee
is absolutely awful.
Some 20% of African Americans
are disenfranchised there because of being incarcerated.
I think they're probably at the top of the list
in other states as well, Mississippi as well.
And so this continues to be a major issue
that folks are trying to get addressed.
Yes, it's a huge population for sure.
I would say that majority of the states,
as long as you finish your sentence,
you do have your right to vote reinstate it automatically.
But yet there are a lot of states that are left behind
that need to catch up and start reenfranchising people for sure.
All right then.
I just want to say that.
Sorry. I just want to let the people know that no matter where you are, whether it's Virginia or anywhere else, and you are not sure and want to find out laws around knowing your right to vote after felony conviction, you can just visit restore your vote.org or you can reach out to us at restore your vote at campaign legal.org as an email.
All right, then. Well, we're certainly appreciated it. And if folks, again, give the address again if they want to get more information. If they, first of all, want to see they can get their rights restored, but also if they actually want to volunteer to assist.
Absolutely. So restore your vote.org would be the perfect place to start. There's a tool on there where you can answer a series of yes or no questions. It's completely anonymous. None of your information is recorded. And once you answer those questions, it'll give you, it'll let you know either you're already registered to vote. I mean, I'm sorry, you're already eligible to vote. And if not, it'll give you the first steps on how to get your rights restored. And we also connect people with local organizations and resources as well. So.
All right. You hate you out. We certainly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
Thank you. Take care.
My panel, Matt Manning, civil rights attorney out of Corpus Christi, Justin Kadoo,
found in Tennessee, holler from Nashville, and Michael Imhotep host African History Network
Show out of Detroit. Justin, I want to start with you.
I mean, Tennessee is just so notorious.
We've covered the stories there where folks have been fighting desperately, and, you know,
they have been, you know, African Americans got a, you know, got a bullseye on their back.
And, you know, those right-wing Republicans in that state,
refuse to recognize that people have paid their price and they, you know, served their time.
They want to continue to disenfranchise folks from voting.
Good to see you, Roland.
Yeah.
Well, first of all, you were right on it.
We are number one in black voter disenfranchisement in Tennessee.
There was a big New York Times article about it not too long ago.
I think it's quarter million, upwards of a quarter million.
Black people can't vote in this state.
And, you know, what we always say is that voter suppression is an art form in,
Tennessee. We're at the very bottom. And we've had the same Secretary of State, Tray Hargit,
with his henchman Mark Goans for a long time. And what I always say to them when I see them is like,
if I was dead last at something time and time again and they didn't fire me, I might start to think
that that was the job I was sent to do. So the fact that we're so low in voter turnout, the fact that
voter suppression is basically what their strategy here, it tips you off that that's kind of the goal.
They know that if everybody voted, Tennessee wouldn't be a red state.
It's just a low voter turnout state, and it's a voter suppression state.
So this is how they control what happens here, and they're really good at it.
And what we have, of course, Matt, when you look at Amendment 4 that took place in Florida,
that voters passed, they're restoring the voting rights to 1.4 million formerly incarcerated.
This issue has gained steamed.
Look, you're not going to be able to really get any progress with these Republican legislatures,
And so it's going to really have to be through ballot initiatives like that constitutional amendment there in Virginia.
I think that's exactly right, especially because I think the general public does not realize the extent to which people are disenfranchised from the voting process through felony convictions.
And larger, I think, just a sea change across society where felons are allowed to more substantially now than ever, you know, reintegrate into society.
I actually took a case just last week where my client got charged and he had a felony from,
I think, 1994.
Hopefully I get it dismissed.
But the point is, I mean, the way prosecutors look at it now is a felony no longer disenfranchises
you from all parts of society.
And to your point, I think that's a philosophical change among most people in the country.
And to that end, I think people will say, look, you serve your time, you got off parole, you got
off probation, whatever the case may be, you should be able to vote.
And I think if you put it to a referendum, then it allows people to weigh in on that process.
And I think you're exactly right.
But in places like Texas and in Florida and in Tennessee, that is certainly never going to happen when you have Republican-controlled state houses where it is not in their benefit to restore those voting rights.
Michael.
Yeah, Rowling, you know, this is something that's really good.
And felony disenfranchisement historically has been used to target African-American voters.
going back to a reconstruction.
Probably the state that had at first was Florida in 1868
when they rewrote their state constitution.
They imposed the felony disenfranchisement law
where you lost your right to vote for life
if you were convicted of a felony.
And the Brennan Center for Justice has research on this
and they said that one of the people that was involved
in rewriting in the state legislature
and passing that law said that they did this
to prevent what they called a Negro legislature.
And Florida was 48% black at that time because of a legacy of slavery.
You had Desmond Mead here on the show a number of times rolling when he got it and others
got it put on the ballot in Florida and got it overturn.
I think it was around 2018 or so or 2020, something like that.
But that law dates back all the way to 1868, three years after slavery ended.
We've talked about Mississippi, 1890.
that law, felony disenfranchisement law from Mississippi,
when they rewrote the state constitution
in the post-pold taxes and literacy tests
and that felony disenfranchisement law,
that's still in effect today in Mississippi, okay?
But what a lot of people don't know
is states like Maine and Vermont, right now,
felons in prison can legally vote for prison in Maine and Vermont.
The difference is Maine and Vermont
never had large numbers of African Americans.
but those southern states did.
So this is great in Virginia, and we know Virginia, you've talked about, you know, Virginia and Richmond, Virginia being the seat of the Confederacy, but this is all tied to suppressing the black vote.
And lastly, the irony is that former felons in these states who can't vote still have to pay taxes.
That's the other thing.
That's called taxation without representation to me.
So this is good, but we have to study the history behind this as well.
Well, again, and I hope folks understand if they're doing all they can to deny the right to vote,
that's why you've got to use it when you got it.
Going to a break will be right back, rolling on the button unfiltered on the Blockstown Network.
All right, folks, let me get personal for a second.
My mom had questions about her Medicare, so she called Chapter,
a Medicare advisory company, and she texts me right after saying it's a great benefit.
It was easy.
A real person walked her through the whole thing, and now she understands better what's going on.
But it also is not just her.
A woman in Yonkers rode in saying the process was so simple, the enrollment was easy,
and she was so glad she called.
Then there's Maryland, 90 years old, in Florida, living on Social Security.
Her premium climbed every single year north of $400 a month for coverage she could barely afford any more.
So what does she do?
She called Chapter.
They found her the same top-tier coverage for her.
hundreds of dollars less.
Ninety years old, and finally, somebody
in her corner. I hear stories
like that again and again from our
community. The Medicare system was not
built to work for you. Too much
fine print, too many plans. Yet
Chapters' advisors are independent and honest.
The only Medicare advisors that
compare every plan nationwide
are focused on one thing, what actually
works for you. If you're already
in the right plan, they'll tell you. No
games, and people who switched
to a chapter saved an average of
$11,100 a year.
All it takes is 20 minutes.
You talk to a real person and it's completely free help.
So, call Chapter at 724-264-8-281.
7-24-264-8-1.
That's chapter.
Congratulations on your eighth anniversary launching Roland Martin Unfiltered,

But most importantly, I want to thank you.
I remember when you first started, I'm so glad the National Coalition.
I was able to be one of the first investors in supporting your vision.
You're there when nobody else shows up.
And now more than ever, we need black media now more than ever.
And so I just want to, I wish I could be there, but family duties call.
But just wanted to stop in and say, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Roland Martin, you are the best.
You're my brother from another mother.
Bless you and many, many more anniversaries to come and even more higher heights as you continue to fight to make sure black media is front and center telling the story of black America.
Thank you so much.

In July, Bishop William
Barbara announced their effort to have
100 marches
to the polls over 100 days.
Well, of course, we are now
within 60 days, less than 60 days of the election.
But on tomorrow, it'll be kicking
off a North Carolina leg of a mobilization tour.
The tour began in Fayetteville with a 7 p.m.
rally at Crossroads United Methodist Church.
The rally and tour part of Bishop Barbara's
forward together voter mobilization initiative designed to mobilize 5 million low in
wage infrequent voters the initiative focuses on the south and battleground states and
will use peer-to-peer text messaging grassroots phone banking door-to-door
canvassing and more in addition to marches to the polls also they'll be
recruiting more than 40 different organizations to partner in the project the
initiative has already helped organize more than 320 marches to the polls on the
first day of early voting the 100 days of voter mobilization tour will also stop
in Elizabeth City, Wilson, Winston, Salem, and Durham.
On, of course, Monday, Bishop Barbara was speaking and addressing Trump
in his efforts to restrict mail-in balloting,
and he stood with various faith leaders.

My sister, which side are you on?
Amen.
Before we close with prayer, we want to see if there are any questions
from members of our people.
the media. So the attorneys to any of the other clergy that have spoken. Yes, ma'am.
Hi. So mail and ballots have already started going out, coming in. Obviously, overnight,
Trump's executive order was blocked by another federal judge. Kind of talk to me about why
you think the timing, or what do you think of the timing with this executive order as North
is one of the earliest states to start sending out bailing ballots.
We are in a time when if you look at the data, for instance, in this state, over 3 million
poor and low-wage brothers and sisters that are eligible to vote.
And when you look at the data, Trump won last time 183,000 votes.
1.2 million poor low-wage voters didn't vote over 600,000 African Americans.
If just 12, 14 percent of the voters that didn't vote were mobilized, it changes.
It could potentially shift the entire outcome and margins.
And that's all over the country.
And even in the South, if anywhere in the South right now,
a 15% of poor, low-wage, infrequent voters vote, and vote a vision,
not even vote parties, there's voter vision for justice.
They can shift the margin.
And the extremists know that.
Some places, there's 2%, 1%.
These are not large margins.
So what do you do if you want to cheat?
You create confusion.
That's right.
You create confusion.
People don't know now if their ballot's going to be counted.
If it's not going to be counted, if the rule said if one is messed up, they have to send a whole batch back.
It's creating confusion.
And we don't know what else he may do.
He may call the emergency election.
And the law says it would take two thirds of the Congress and two thirds of the House and the Senate to overturn if he does it as president.
So we then have to say, okay, we're going to mobilize, we're going to march.
I said, we're going in mass.
This must be a movement vote, not a midterm vote.
That's right.
We need a movement vote.
This is like, this is not even about what party you in.
This is about whether or not we're going to be on the side of democracy.
And that's why we're saying the folk, okay, mail in, they're creating confusion.
But one thing is not confusion.
You can get together, go to the polls,
start in the first day of early voting.
And in our state, if folk aren't registered,
help them get all this stuff and march together.
They go one time.
They register, vote one time.
Then we cut out a lot of the confusion.
Because we're there together.
We're voting all at the same time.
Our lawyers are going to be in place.
We have to say, when folk are trying to do all these crazy things,
the Bible says be faithful over one thing
one thing
while they're doing all this craziness
we're going to be faithful over one thing
and that's using everybody
every church every synagogue every club every group
to mobilize people
to the poll
that's the only way you can
challenge all of this crazy confusion
while the lawyers are in court
they do their work
our work
as moral leaders
as to be faithful on this
one thing. And right now that one thing is walk together children, march together children,
don't you get weary and know what side you're on, you're on the side of democracy.
Yes, ma'am.
There, I think that right there, Michael, was important to, listen, we've had the marches,
we've had the gatherings, we've had the protest. This is now mobilized, organized, organized,
and mobilized, micro, and that's what folks have to be on. Listen, I, it's, you know,
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation AOC is happening right now.
I haven't spent much time over there because I'm just being straight up.
Right now, this ain't about gathering.
This ain't about parties.
This is not about all those different things.
This is literally how do we get folks completely focused like right now,
voter registration deadlines.
I'm going to be showing those deadlines.
I mean, folks got to be hitting that.
As I'm looking at people on social media, again, I don't give a damn about, you know,
the parties and the receptions, things along those lines,
we are operating in a state of emergency,
the level of attacks that are happening upon black people,
and this is all hands on deck.
Yeah, I totally agree, Roland.
We're dealing with a time right now
where African Americans are being politically lynched.
We look at April 29th, 2026, Louisiana versus Cali decision
gutting Section 2 with the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
We look at efforts from Donald Trump
trying to go to the Supreme Court to gain control over mail-in balloting, things of this nature, right?
So one of the things that I think is important, and I can understand the marches in trying to draw attention and gather people.
But when, you know, I just did a presentation for Zeta-Fa-Belah Sorority Incorporated.
they're dealing for their voter engagement, state of Michigan form that they had.
And one of the things that I talked about is when we talked to African Americans about
voting, this is a couple of things we have to do.
Number one, we have to talk about power, power acquisition, using politics to acquire power,
to put policies in place that are beneficial to you, your family, your communities.
Number two, we have to connect the activity of voting to the outcome of the outcome of
policies that are beneficial. Because oftentimes, and I'm not saying Reverend William Barber is doing
this, but, but all, and I love that brother, but oftentimes a lot of people focus on the
activity of voting and voting for symbolism, voting for, because of Dr. King and Fannie Lou Hamer,
but not understanding you have to vote to stop the threat, vote to stop the clear and present
danger, and vote to protect gains that have been made, but also vote for policies that have
beneficial for your community.
And policies that are beneficial for African Americans are beneficial for America in general.
So, yeah, this is, I've said before here, Rowland, this is the most consequential election,
probably since the 1876 presidential election that brought about an end to Reconstruction.
Well, listen, we've had a number of significant elections.
And so I, for me, Matt, it's not even.
compared to anything in the past.
It's about present and the future.
And what we have been focusing on here
is what I call this direct attack,
this GOP MAGA attack
on Black America.
And it's every day.
People need to understand what's going on.
When you start looking at,
and I need people also to understand the map,
listen, today's the 18th.
Y'all,
it's,
only 12 more days in September.
Okay?
All of a sudden, it's 31 days in October.
And the election days November 3rd.
It's seven weeks.
You know, I've said to all these campaigns
when I called out Sherrod Brown's campaign the other day in Ohio,
hey, man, you ain't mobilizing black folks.
It's seven weeks.
It's seven weeks.
Telarico, you got seven weeks.
Osop, you got seven weeks.
Roy Cooper's campaign is concerned that people think that he's just going to win.
They're concerned about people just assuming that.
I've said to his campaign, y'all better be concerned about the down-ballot races as well.
Listen, a poll came out showing in Florida, Angie Nixon and Moody are tied.
So for all those people who said, oh, she ain't got a shot, that's a lie.
Republicans right now, they are up against the wall.
And so this right now, Matt, is where you.
you go in for the kill.
It absolutely is.
Look, there's a psychological principle
called diffusion of responsibility, right?
And you learn about it,
I'm sure in a lot of different contexts,
but you learn about it in law school
with this famous case called the Kitty Genevice case.
The principle from that is the idea
that sometimes people don't get involved
because they think other people will get involved
or will handle the lifting that needs to be done.
That is the existential crisis we face right now
because I would posit that if you look at social media
and if you look at the topics, the jour across the country, people are more energized, more plugged in and more informed about things that are happening politically than I think they probably ever have been in history.
How you translate that to people feeling the onus upon themselves to actually go to the balance is still the difficult part.
But to your point here in Texas, James Tala Rico has every opportunity, realistic opportunity, to be the first blue senator here in our home state in 30-plus years if people actually go to the poll.
But the issue is, how do you get them to go from being social media engaged to go into the polls?
And obviously, there's a lot of conversation about mobilization and all of that.
But ultimately, people have to feel that responsibility, that somebody else is not going to be able to do it for me.
I have to put this burden on my shoulders myself go and cast that vote.
And if that happens enough in Texas and across the country, I think there will be major change.
But that's always the issue.
And I think that's the issue in this election as well, despite all of the fervor that we see,
across the country in some of the prior primaries and other elections that have already taken place.
When I say you got to go in for the kill, Justin, I mean, you look at what's happening
and you look at how these Republicans are running scared.
You got a candidate in Florida.
Man, she is running.
All of a sudden, she's now doing...
ads saying that, hey, I don't agree with Trump, you know, on immigration.
ICE has gone too far, yet she was out there stumping for more funding for ICE and Border Patrol.
They're scared.
They are scared to death of losing.
Miami-Dade.
I saw this one thing here.
Miami-Dade, 70% Hispanic County.
all the people are saying,
oh my God, we're scared to death, what's going on?
Well, guess what?
Y'all can't act.
And I saw one Republican consultant, Justin said,
well, Latinos are saying, we need expect all of this.
I'm sorry, no, go back.
These were the signs they were holding up.
They were open saying mass deportation now.
These same Latinos, these Cubans, these Venezuelans,
oh, they thought, oh, no, it's them.
it's them, it's somebody else.
It's not us. It's not us.
No, no, no, no. They say they want to get rid
of all y'all.
Trump just simply played them by saying,
oh, we're only going to go after the criminals.
Now they are learning. These
farmers are now learning. You got
some of these Trump folks who voted, who are like,
man, I don't have any workers. Well, guess what,
dumb ass? That's what was expected.
They are scared. They're losing
on the economy. Diesel's over $6.
They're now going out saying,
hey, you know what, you should feel appreciative
for voting for higher gas prices.
You talk about insane.
That's not what Trump Republicans were saying
when Biden was in the White House.
No, I mean, it's very tempting always
to break out the I told you so.
You know, I have no tolerance right now
for the people you're talking about.
It's only when it affects them
that they start to feel like they made a mistake.
You know, the farmers, the truckers,
the white guys who are married to Latino women
that suddenly when they grab their wife,
they have an issue with it.
But I think we got to focus on the goal.
The goal is making sure that those people,
you know, when they've changed their minds,
that we don't push them in the other direction.
So it's hard for me because I'm an attack dog,
you know, and I'm always tempted to break out the I told you.
So, you know, I'm happy to see the dam is breaking.
I can affirm that it is breaking.
I do communicate with some Republicans here in 10.
to see some elected Republicans have told me that, you know, they are having second thoughts,
that they're done with this crew, you know, because it's affecting their business.
So it's definitely happening.
There's a lot less Trump flags flying around where I live here in the belly of the beast in
Williamson County, Tennessee.
So, you know, it's certainly happening.
But just to go back to Reverend Barber for a minute, I mean, I think you really put it perfectly
when he said this has to be a movement vote, not a midterm vote.
You know, the shenanigans are coming.
We know they're coming.
We know they're going to do whatever they can, you know, in terms of sending people to the polls, kicking up dust, causing chaos, doing whatever he can to say, hey, you know, this doesn't count.
So the only way to overcome that is just overwhelming them with numbers.
And, you know, this is what Justin Pearson here in Tennessee is always saying.
He's doing a really good job of rallying people from, you know, Memphis to Williamson County.
The district is ridiculous now.
But it has to be a movement vote.
We know the shenanigans are coming.
We know they've put their election deniers in all.
the different places around the country. So, you know, I think it's fair to wonder what's coming,
but we just have to do everything we can. And, you know, just to go back to the, the Reverend Barber thing
for a minute, you know, he's been sounding the alarm and saying every election is the most important
election for many years now. And guess what? He's been right. You know, I would say the alarmists have
yet to be wrong, and that's still true. So we all have to do everything we can. You know, I'm with you,
no parties, focus on the task at hand.
And when people change their minds, we've got to let them.
The thing that we have to understand is how these folks,
they're running scared, Michael.
This right here, there was a post.
Senator Tim Scott was asked about Congressman Mike Collins reported white nationalist ties.
And being, of course, the wimp that he is.
He refused to even answer the questions.
Let me just show you what took place in the hall.
Watch this.
Senator Scott, are you worried about Mike Collins' white nationalist ties?
Are you worried about Mike Collins' white nationalist ties, Senator Scott?
You got a guy running for United States Senate in Georgia.
White nationalist ties, former staffer posted Nazi stuff,
and the lone black Republican United States Senator won't say a damn word
because he's gutless.
That's what he is.
Atlas, people have to understand the climate that's going on.
Michael, in Kansas, in Kansas, you've got a U.S. Senator Roger Marshall who gave one of the most ridiculous answers during a debate.
Dude, that race is right now a toss-up.
And this fool actually said this about gas prices on television.
Listen, we're the leading producer of oil in the world.
We're exporting more than we're importing.
We're not standing in lines that overall wages have been going faster than inflation under this president.
Here it is.
It's going to be tax day very soon, and then bet Americans are going to get an extra $1,500 or $1,500 rebate as well.
So I'm sorry the gas prices are going up, but help is on his way.
And your national security, yes, is even more important than your pocketbook.
Wow.
So national security is more important in your pocketbook.
So you mean the war he started in Iran, which is also the real?
reason why it's going up in the terrace as well.
And Roger Marshall, of course,
U.S. Senator from Kansas,
but he spends more time at his home in
Florida where his wife is registered
in Florida. His fishing licenses
are in Florida. You know
something is happening in the country,
Michael, when Republicans
are losing in
places like Kansas, when they are
running tight, when you've
got this idiot
Democrat who refuses to drop out
in Montana, because
the independent candidate, if she dropped out,
the independent candidate, we're beating the
Republican candidate. As I said,
Angie Nixon tied with
Moody. The mood is shifting.
This is not the
time to be playing cute,
going to parties, having a ball.
No, this is called
the next seven weeks.
You put both feet on
their necks and you crush
them.
Yeah, you break their political backs.
You pull out all the stops.
You need massive voter engagement with African Americans, putting people on the ground, door knocking, phone calls, phone banking, things of that nature, and talking about policies that matter to people.
So a few things here.
Number one, you know, there was an article from NBC News on September 17th.
They talked about how several Republicans start to distance themselves from Trump as the midterms near,
because they see the writing on the wall,
so that's going exactly to your point there, Roland.
You had Roger Marshall sounded like an idiot there.
And that's the same Roger Marshall,
who I think it was in New York Times, talked about.
He sued.
He's a doctor and sued, like 81 patients for unpaid bills,
things of this nature.
And then you have this war in Iran.
Now, he talks about Americans are going to get like $1,000,
or $1,500 rebate from taxes, right?
But when you look at the research,
it shows that in 2025,
because of Donald Trump's tariffs,
that the average family paid $1,700 more,
okay, for groceries and expenses,
things of that nature,
this year is expected to be $2,000 more.
And with diesel prices at a record high of over $6,
that has a ripple effect all throughout the economy.
Okay.
Now, now we know that fertilizer prices up 50%.
We know that beef is up as well, and the cattle ranchers are screaming bloody murder
because of what Donald Trump is trying to do importing foreign beef as well.
Okay?
So all of this has a devastating impact through the economy.
But what I don't.

iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I don't understand is how,
and I'm going to wrap it up with this. On CNN and MS Now in these other cable news networks,
they are lying when they said the 2024 presidential election was about the economy,
and inflation and prices.
If they're saying that people voted for Donald Trump because of that,
when the majority of the economists were telling you that his policies would destroy the
economy, they said his tariffs would destroy the economy as well as his immigration policies
and his immigration policies would devastate the labor force when it came to farmers.
Because 45% of farm workers are immigrants, right?
So if you said that you voted for him because of that and you voted against the economists,
your line.
No, this was about the fear of the browning of America.
And I keep seeing this day after day on a lot of these white control outlets, they don't want
to tell the truth.
But the evidence is there.
Because lastly, in 2017, there was an article from the Atlantic that looked at the 2016
presidential election.
They said the driving force for non-college educated white voters who voted for Trump.
was not the economy. They said it was
cultural anxiety. Yeah,
but that was the problem of America. Yeah, but that's
also because you had these mainstream
outlets who were more focused on
Joe Biden's age, him walking slow.
They did not actually want
to cover what the hell
Trump was doing with the economy.
This is that Florida Congresswoman
Maria Salazar, Maria Elvirus Salazar.
She's facing a tough challenge.
If y'all want to see a flip-flop, watch this.
Mr. President,
some of your fame, immigration, enforcement,
efforts have gone too far. In July, 50% of the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal
record. Be careful what your advisors are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics
who help you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today. You can be for immigration
when Lincoln was for slavery and Reagan was for communism. I'm not talking about giving them
amnesty. I'm talking about giving them a dignified life in this promised land. I am Marie I
virus, Salazar, and I approve this.
What a bullshit-ass ad, because
this is also what
she said when she
went on Meet the Press.
Watch. And we have to
fund ICE and
DHS, ICE and
Border Patrol.
And new polling this.
See, they're running,
they're running scared, Justin. They're running
scared. They are freaking out
a Jim DeFeed, who's
a great journalist out of Florida. Man,
If you want to show exposing this idiot Salazar who's scared to death on, by the way,
and we had David Jolly on the other day, Democrats have been winning these elections,
but they've been winning mayoral elections in places where Republicans have control for a very long time.
This is him putting the screws to her.
This is one reason why, listen, Jefferson is putting money into this race.
Democrats can very well win this congressional seat watch.
I want to talk about some of the spending going on in Congress and the fact
that Congress doesn't seem to be able to.
Let's talk to America's act with both ties with Argentina.
Let me go to spending.
Which I also introduced in Congress.
Last month you were at FIU and you presented a check for $650,000 to help small businesses at FIU.
But you voted against the bill that gave the money that you then signed a check for and handed and had a photo op.
The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, right? You voted against that bill.
Right now you have to give me more detail.
You have to give me more details, but I do know that every time I have an opportunity to bring money to my constituents, I do so.
I just did $400,000.
But look, let's go.
But you voted against the Chipson Science Act, right?
Listen, right now, I need to ask my staff.
But, you know, what do we look at the $40 million that I have brought to this community?
Are you proud of me?
I am you proud of the $40 million that I brought?
But how much?
How much?
Now that I wrote the Dignity Act, haven't I?
Let's talk about the Americas out.
Wait, wait, wait, wait a second.
Let me just, one second.
Tell me.
The money that you talk about, the $40 million that you bring back to the district,
sometimes that money comes from bills that you voted against.
You voted against the Chips Act, and yet you praise the fact that the South Florida Climate Resilience Tech Hub
is going to be started in Miami, right?
You voted against the infrastructure bill, and you talk about all the money that comes back to the airport.
So at the same time that you're taking credit for the money that you bring back to the district,
in Washington, you're voting against these projects on party-line votes.
Listen, that was, I think, last cycle.
I cannot really remember right now, but just look at the Americas Act, which is what I'm going to vote.
So you don't want to explain why you vote against things.
I mean, right now, and I'm not trying to be a politician, there's so many bills that I've introduced that I know that many of them by me.
These are bills that you voted against.
That I understand.
I need to go ask my staff what I voted for.
Wow.
That clip.
I hadn't seen her ad.
What a fraud.
But, you know, this is a common theme.
Marsha Blackburn does this all the time.
I actually showed up at a bridge naming that there's a big giant check and her staffer showed up.
And I said, where's Marcia?
Because she voted against this and they show up and they take credit for it.
One of the things that the Biden administration wasn't.
good at was taking credit for the things that they did. And so then these Republicans got to run around
and take credit for it and they're still doing it. So, you know, she was so busted there. That's such a
great clip, but you could really superimpose any Republican on them. And then just to mention, you know,
that Roger Marshall clip, because the gas prices are what's really hurting them. The diesel prices
are what's really hurting them in their own districts. Their own people are on them about this.
and, you know, for him to say national security is more important than prices, I just think we can't let them get away with starting that equation with national security.
This war was pointless. It was based on a lie. They're trying to tell us that these nuclear weapons, you know, that they were getting these nuclear weapons that they said they obliterated.
This whole thing has been a lie. So the rising prices and diesel prices are really where the pain is coming from.
and we can't let them hide behind national security on that
and also not take credit for these bills that they voted against.
I mean, that's unbelievable what they do it all the time.
Shamelessness is their superpower.
This is the moment.
This is the moment, Matt, where if you're out there
and you're talking about how do we win,
how do we defeat these fascists,
how do we sit here and do us right?
Listen, the folks, folks,
said black voters matter.
You know, they're doing that. They have this
new campaign
go to where you can send up
to become a poll monitor.
You've got the right wing. They're out there
trying to put their people out there. They're saying,
hey, guess what? Let's fight the intimidation
by having our own people
at the polls
to become a poll monitor.
Again, right now, the focus
Matt has to be, right now,
registration. But
watch what's happening in your state,
Louise Lucas, the state senator in Virginia, she dropped this video today.
And again, people have to recognize early voting is starting in some places, such as Virginia.
Give me one second.
I'm going to run this here.
Early voting actually started today in Virginia.
Watch.
Good morning, Ports, with El Louise Lucas here.
I just want you all to know that early voting starts today and that I was number one in line.
I want you all to come out and vote like your life depend on it because this midterm election is the most critical election of our lifetime.
Come on out and vote and let's get.
So again, no matter where you are, figure what's going on, but between now and these dates, get folks registered.
And then once registration closes, go hard on getting them to vote early and not wait until election day, Matt.
Yeah, absolutely.
I mean, get out there, get to the polls, make sure you know the dates and when the polls open.
keep receipts, man. I mean, just pay attention to what's going on. You talked about
Marshall there, but the thing that I think should be looming over this conversation right now,
at least in Texas, is Beau French. Bo French posting a picture of South Asian students saying
that this is America being taken away from us. That's the kind of stuff that should drive
you to the polls, especially when people like John Cornyn, disingenuous John Cornyn is calling him out.
I mean, the climate right now is at a fever pitch, and you've got to be involved. You need to
know how things work. And more than that, you have to force yourself to get out there and vote
because the responsibility falls on all of us, not on others. And that's what we ultimately
need to do is shoulder that burden. Y'all, well, Matt's talking about both French,
absolute racist, who Tarrant County Republican leader. He's running for the Texas Railroad
Commission, which actually doesn't focus on railroads to actually regulate the oil and gas
industry. He posted this racist-ass tweet. Now, y'all know I don't give a shit about that little
school in Austin. I don't give a damn about
burnt orange. I don't give a
damn. They can all go to hell.
But this is what he posted.
He said, I heard UT graduation
this year looked like this. I didn't
believe it. The problem is now obviously
far worse than anyone imagined.
And this was the photo. So
what he's angry about, he's angry
about these
Indian students.
He's pissed off. And
you've got other Republicans. Carl Rove
made it plain. He is not going to vote for him.
Senator John Cornyn has been calling him out as well, calling his racism out.
And in fact, if y'all want to understand, again, what happens when you unleash these races
and they say these type of things?
Let me see if I can give me one second, if I can pull it up.
Because somebody sent me, I was looking at one of these.
Someone sent me a link.
Hold on one second.
Let me find it.
I'm going to have to go to this phone.
Look at it here.
Okay.
So it was this deranged white woman.
Boy, she was just upset.
Let's see.
Based in Malibu.
That is her handle.
Let me see if I can get to her.
She may have deleted it, but more than likely that bigot kept it up.
Okay, here we go.
Let's see.
I can play for you all the video of her just being just really, really upset.
And she agreed with Bo French 100%.
Is this it?
Nope, that's not it.
Here we go.
Where is it?
And again, you know, this is one of those folks who Boe French was appealing to.
And she goes out here.
She posed these things, and this is the bigoted group of people who Republicans in Texas want to turn out.
And if you're, if you're one of those people who go, okay, I don't see what the big deal is, guess what?
If you're voter in Texas, you vote for the Texas Railroad Commission.
That is a statewide office you voted for it.
Okay, listen to this bigot, y'all.
This video of the University of Texas game is going viral. Check it out.
Okay, so what did you notice? Because that video actually made me curious. So I started looking into what has happened at UT Austin over the last decade. And the numbers are insane. In 2012, roughly 49% of UT Austin undergrads were white. And today, that number is at 29%. Meanwhile, the Asian share went from 19% to 26%.
So naturally, I wanted to know, well, what's changed?
And that is where the immigration conversation gets interesting.
India is now the number one country of origin among UT's international students,
according to their enrollment data.
And nationally, people born in India accounted for 71% of the approved H-1B petitions in 2024.
You know, the H-1B petition.
that have been caused for concern about fraud and abuse, you know, the ones that Nick Shirley has been investigating and even Governor Abbott went as far as freezing all new H-1B petitions while they investigate potential fraud and abuse.
So here's the thing. When Texas's flagship university goes from roughly half-white to less than one-third white in 13 years while Texas is simultaneously having a massive conversation about immigration and H-1B abuse.
Yeah, I feel like Texans are allowed to ask, what the hell is going on?
What I want to know is, are these universities prioritizing Indian students of immigrants over Texas-born white students?
I mean, I feel like these are questions everyone should be asking, because that video was shocking.
I guess on that note.
Oh, it was shocking, but I thought y'all about merit.
Maybe the white kid is not smart enough.
but I need y'all to understand
this is public policy
what you're seeing right here
this is public policy and beau french
he's running as a Republican
and there'll be Republicans who are going to press his button
and going to say no no vote for him because he's a Republican
just like they're going to say vote for Ken Paxton
the only way you beat these bigots
is if we show up in record numbers
and I keep saying this
let's not make let's not shoot for 70%

No, let's make that the base.
Let's make that the minimum. I'm telling
y'all it is a fact.
If 70% of eligible black

Mississippi, Florida,
North Carolina,
Georgia, Ohio,
vote,
these people
lose.
Donald Trump

He will no longer

All right, folks.
Let me get personal for a second.
My mom had questions about her Medicare, so she called Chapter, a Medicare advisory company,
and she texts me right after saying it's a great benefit.
It was easy.
A real person walked her through the whole thing, and now she understands better what's going on.
But also it's not just her.
A woman in Yonkers rode in saying the process was so simple, the enrollment was easy,
and she was so glad she called.
Then there's Maryland, 90 years old, in Florida, living on Social Security.
Her premium climbed every single year north of $400.
a month for coverage she could barely afford anymore. So what does she do? She called Chapter.
And they found her the same top-tier coverage for hundreds of dollars less, 90 years old,
and finally somebody in her corner. I hear stories like that again and again from our community.
The Medicare system was not built to work for you. Too much fine print, too many plans.
Yet Chapter's advisors are independent and honest, the only Medicare advisors that compare every
plan nationwide. They're focused on one thing. What actually is.
works for you. If you're already in the right plan, they'll tell you. No games. People who
switched to a chapter saved an average of $11,100 a year. All takes us 20 minutes. You talk to a real
person and it's completely free help. So, call chapter at 724-264-8-281. 724-264-8-1. That's chapter.
Well, hello, Big Brother.
Congratulations on making eight years

For the 20 collegiate athletic conferences,
representing 228 colleges, universities across 46 states,
including HBCUs and current student athletes support the Protect College Sports Act.
However, opposition to the bill seems to be growing stronger.
Mike Florio, the host of Pro Football Talk Live,
was talking with a former NFL player Chris Sims,
and they pretty much were very clear about this thing.
The sense I've gotten in recent days,
there had been people supporting it
and this kind of loose, disorganized opposition,
that hadn't really coalesced.
I feel like in recent days,
ever since you got Ted Cruz showed up on game day
wearing his burnt orange,
I feel like the opposition is really coalesced
since that moment.
Yeah, it's crazy.
First off, it's stupid.
They're even involved.
We got so many issues in this country,
in this world.
It's embarrassing.
I mean, it's embarrassing.
But we're worried about, you know,
some young kids making money in college football
and a year coming off that,
oh, college, oh, wait, hold on.
You know, it's really hurting.
Oh, that's right.
More people watch college football last year than ever before.
It made more money than every before.
Oh, hold on.
It's struggling.
It needs to be saved.
Let's call this what this is.
This is save the ESPN and the SEC contract act.
That's what this is.
That's all it is.
ESPN paid a lot of money for the SEC and it's, oh no, the SEC might not be king anymore.
The Big Ten won the last three national championships.
The SEC wasn't even in one of the three.
Oh, no, we've lost our grip.
We want to go back to the old rule somewhat to where everybody else follows rules or
we're the SEC.
We'll cheat and pay people on the table.
And we liked it that way better.
That's the way we want it.
Because now schools that have money and evade it are legal, Notre Dame and Miami and all that
endless money, we can't compete with that.
They're alumni base is too rich.
What are we going to do?
So we have to save the ESPN and the SEC Contract Act.
And that's why ESPN gave Ted Cruz that what a stupid thing on game day to have.
How stupid you're going to bring in that bull crap politics into it for the biggest game
in the year.
That was an embarrassment and an embarrassment.
And I wish Ted Cruz would fly to some other country and avoid this all together.
Go to Cancun like you did when everybody was frozen in Texas, all right?
Do that.
It's so stupid that our politicians are worried about this while they're fixing nothing
in the rest of the country.
Nothing. Nothing at all. The country's more divided and ruined more than ever in my lifetime.
But we're worried about the Save the ESPN and the SEC Contract Act. Good job, Randy Levine.
Now, you want to talk about crazy. Reporters caught up with ESPN and Annan's Kirk Herb Street in Oxford, Mississippi.
And just listen to this nonsense.
I was first really impressed. I've never seen a guy booed that long.
and be able to just power through that.
You know, I don't know if he couldn't hear what I could hear,
but I think he was booed pretty much the entire time he spoke.
I don't really get into politics.
I'm kind of an independent guy right down the middle of the fair way.
I'm for America, so whoever helps us as a country, I'm for,
whether it's somebody on the left, somebody on the right.
So I don't really follow it.
I don't know anything about his political views.
I don't know what he's for or against.
I care about football.
and my family and my faith and my country.
Those are things that I love.
And so I don't really pick sides.
And I was surprised.
I didn't know what his deal was.
So him being booed, I had to ask people like, what's going on here.
So I, you know, and we are, we had him on because they were going to be voting this week.
And maybe he could give us some insight to what's going on.
That was really it.
So we're not picking sides in any way at all.
We just want to see the chaos that surrounding this sport kind of be real.
end and if this will help us get to that then pray you know the fact that the guy that
sits right next to me Nick Saban was heavily involved in putting this act together
this guy loves college football more than anybody I've ever met and so if he's
happy about what this could do then I follow his lead so I but yeah that was
surprising but again I don't really follow it so didn't really understand it
Okay, do y'all understand how utterly bullshit that answer was from Kirk Kerm Street?
First of all, I don't really know this guy's politics.
So what you're telling me, Kirk, is you had a guess, come on your set, and you did no research before he did.
He came on, right?
So I love this here.
somebody said, Kirk Herb Street said he doesn't do politics.
This is some people who he follows.
Cash Patel, director of FBI, Speaker Mike Johnson,
Sean Parnell, who is the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs
for the Second Department of Pence, and Roger Clemens.
Let's just say all Republicans, but you don't know.
Oh, well, the guy sitting next to Nick Saban,
he's been you know he loves college football more than anybody else so you know if he thinks this is great
and then and then kirk goes well you know if this is able to you know rain things in them all for it
that means you're taking aside you took aside then i love this one here um so yeah so next
next for it you know i'm going to follow his lead that means you take an aside you can't say you don't
do politics when the whole bill is about
politics. Why
does the federal government need
to intervene? Why does the federal
government need to give the end up,
an NCAA, an
antitrust exemption?
Explain that. Oh, and Kirk
said, no, no, no, no.
We're not taking sides. Kurt!
You work
for Disney. Disney
has given money
to the lobbying effort
to pass the bill.
So, Kirk, you're lying.
Disney has taken a side
ESPN has taken
aside
Mark Florio is right
that you've had this loose coalition of people who are opposing this
and since he is also correct
since Ted Cruz went on ESPN
it has caused people to sort of coalesce
after that people were highly critical
and ESPN gave Sarah Ted Cruz
all of that airtime on the air,
but did not put someone on the exact same show,
opposing it.
A couple days later, they had the president of NWACP
on SportsCenter.
The ratings on sports center don't even compare
to college game day.
Jordan Gassiz is the NWACP's director of youth
and college division, Tyler McMillan.
Glad to have you here.
First of all, and I'm...
What is the NAACP doing
to build a course?
coalition of African-American groups and others about this, because I'll be honest, TILIC,
I'm on a text chain with Derek.
I heard nothing about the NWACP's involvement.
I was talking to some folks earlier today who are here for CBCF.
They haven't heard anything.
And so how is the NWACP organizing and mobilizing black people to oppose this bill?
Talek, you're on mute.
I'm back in.
I would just say one thing, you know, not being a new to this fight, as you all know, we launched the out of balance campaign, of course, what we are doing to bring awareness to our college athletes and black athletes and ensuring that they have fair representation.
But also at the same time, what we're doing is calling out the folks.
I'm frustrated when organizations that represent HBCUs and our communities stand behind this type of legislation without asking the hard questions about what black athletes and what black institutions are actually being asked to give up.
For example, you know, having conversations and calling out folks that we see at the SWAC amongst the organizations publicly supporting this Protect College Sports Act.
And I think that position deserves scrutiny, not because an institution doesn't have the right to advocate for its interests or students, but because we have to ask whether those interests are aligned with the long-term interests of our students and our athletes and our HBCUs.
And so as I mentioned it before, our out-of-bounds campaign of understanding, you know, how this is interconnected to fair representation and how this is interconnected.
No, no, no.
I understand that the out-of-bounce campaign, though, had to do with getting athletes not to pick states in the South where they have been disenfranchising black voters.
We've talked about that on the kid.
But what I'm saying is, listen, opponents of this bill were greatly helped by a country.
Congressman Thomas Massey's
discharged petition
to impeach Pete Hick-Seth.
That forced Speaker Mike Johnson
to
recess the House
for the next seven weeks.
So Congress is... So the House,
so even if the Senate passes this bill,
the House does not take up this bill
until after the election.
At seven weeks. So,
this is the question I have.
What specifically is the NAA
doing to organize and mobilize black organizations to use their heft and position to challenge this bill to oppose it.
I just put, I'm on the NWACP's email list. I just pulled up by email. I got an email of a weekly
news recap of NWACP in the news, but I don't have a single email from the NDACP saying we are
focus on killing this bill. Where is that campaign?
As I said before, it's connected to how we're connecting it to the out of bounds and
fair representation and connecting to voting.
Having conversations with folks about what this means for our college students.
What, okay, what folks? It's all interconnected. What folks?
It's all interconnected, Roland. No, no, no, no, no. Tadling, I'm sorry. Tadik, it's not
interconnected. There are a lot of people don't know. It's interconnected to how we show
for voting and how we show up at the ballot box.
We have to organize folks around what is happening with the issues and what is on the table
in the Protect College Sports Act.
And this all goes back to how folks show up at the ballot box and that goes in tandem
with educating folks on what is actually in the bill.
How are HPCUs affected?
How are students affected?
How are college athletes when it comes to how they're being paid and scholarship
dollars that's all connected to this bill.
And all of this is connected about how we show up.
And so that is going to be important in our messaging of connecting what is actually in this bill.
But I'm so, Ty Lake, what I'm asking, though, I get all of that.
But this is the point I'm still asking.
Where is the campaign?
This is what I mean.
This is what I mean.
The NACP has not even sent out a specific email regarding the Protect College Sports Act.
I'm on the email list.
What I'm saying is, is the NAACP?
has it called a black leadership meeting to pull together Dean Dyn and other groups to say,
hey, here's this bill.
The Senate has already had one vote.
We got to stop this bill.
We need to be having all of our black groups educating them and sending the information out.
What I'm saying is, is that happening?
And if it's not happening, when is it going to happen?
because I have talked to the presidents of several major black organizations
who knew nothing about this issue.
That's what I'm asking.
Yeah, of course.
So our president, as you mentioned,
has been in conversation with leaders,
whether that's at other black organizations, et cetera.
But I absolutely think, you know,
of course, there could be a bigger push
and a bigger push on, like, what is actually in the act.
And I think that is something that is in discussion on the table
in coalition with partners
and coalition with other set organizations.
And so I think we just have to do a better job of explaining to our community what is in this
Protect College Sports Act, how does it affect our institutions and our students, and what we
can do to fight back against the passage of this act before it hits the House post-election season
and back into the new Congress.
And so that just has to be the job of how we show up to ensure that we don't have folks
also in the House who would agree with these same tactics that are, you know,
that are all within this bill.
Okay, got it.
So listen, Derek Johnson went on ESPN.
Is this president of the NACP?
Is he going to be hitting black radio,
black newspapers, black digital shows next week?
Again, what I'm trying to understand, TILIC,
and the people in the chat room and others,
what they want to know is,
where is the organization?
Matter of fact, I'm going to play the Mike Floreo.
comment again. Mike Florio
is right, and I'll be honest with you,
the more people have been
talking about this, really
have been folks like this show and Bermani
Jones and others, then I'm hearing
from black groups, and the
NACP's position is that
this is hurting black
students, which I agree with.
I believe the NACP
should be taking the lead
to be organizing
black people against
this bill. Play the Florio
clip and I'm going to come back. I want to talk about that.
The sense I've gotten in recent days, there had been people supporting it and this
kind of loose, disorganized opposition that hadn't really coalesced. I feel like in recent days,
ever since you got Ted Cruz showed up on Game Day wearing his burnt orange, I feel like the
opposition is really coalesced since that moment.
Yeah. Okay. So, perfect example. You got all these people who are, all these black folks who are in
time for CBCF.
Is this happening?
And again,
what's the plan of action
for the next seven weeks?
You've got elections going on?
I got it. But this specific
bill right here,
you've got seven weeks to

And when a story deserves a deeper conversation,
I'll sit down with experts,
newsmakers, and thought leaders
to help you better understand the heads.
I spoke with Gary Mayor, Eddie Melton, about what's happening on the ground, whether race is playing a role and what help is available for families who simply can't afford the added cost.
Joining us now is Tennessee State Representative Justin J. Pearson.
Thank you so much for having me. I appreciate it.
Absolutely.
Whether it's a major national story or an issue impacting your community, join me on Front Page.
Listen to Front Page from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcast.
or wherever you get your podcast.
Really hit this thing.
And what I'm asking is, what's the plan of action?
People are saying, yo, I want to get in this.
What do they do?
The people listening, the people watching, they're the chat saying, man, hey, I'm down with it.
What do they do?
Well, one, as I mentioned, as I mentioned, having the conversation about what is, what is in the bill.
And us, of course, having those conversations with our units and our folks on the ground,
of how we can show up in November.
All roads lead to November,
and how this is connected to the issue of voting rights.
And so it just comes down to us really educating the community
and giving out the tools and the resources that they need ahead of this midterm election.
And us doing the groundwork to really educate our folks
on what is all in this bill and how it affects our communities and our students.
NWCP has, what, 2,700 branches?
We do.
Okay.
Is there any plan?
Is there any plan to unleash picket lines or information lines or anything at select college football games over the next seven Saturdays?
What I can say, I'm not the only sole leader at the NAACP, but has been in conversation around what exactly is the game plan moving forward to education?
our communities on this Protect College Sports Act and how it is relative and connected to the
issue of voting and how we turn out our communities to show up this midterm election cycle.
But what I can say is definitely something that is on the table and working in coalition of
what other coalition partners we can pull in to really do a mass movement of how we organize
our communities around this issue to be in the know.
Because as we know, this vote really came out of nowhere.
and the issue really, really
clear. No, Tadik,
no disrespect,
it did come from out of nowhere.
This had been discussed for several weeks.
We had been following it.
It was, it was, this thing had been moving.
Also the issues of mail-in voting and all,
et cetera, for the fight as we are getting towards midterm.
And so there, it was,
it was definitely in the midst of a mass distraction that we saw.
But luckily, we got the win out, out of the Supreme Court.
But I think this is definitely,
opportunity for us to say, like, hey, this is what's happening within the Protect College
Sports Act and to bring much awareness to it. But that is conversations that is being had. As we,
as we know, as I mentioned, all things leading up to November the 3rd and how we connect these
issues to the issues of voting rights.
The, before I go to my panel with questions, we played a soundbite on this.
And, and again, I'm looking, you talked about the toolkit that you guys launched regarding getting athletes not to go to the southern schools.
The Republicans organized a news conference on Capitol Hill, and they had a group of students.
and they had a group of students
who stood in front of the cameras
opposing,
supporting the bill.
And one of them, it was the Senate,
this is the Senate Commerce Republicans.
This took place three days ago.
And they held this news conference.
You will see right here,
this is a Howard University student.
Ted Cruz is standing right next.
Guys, come on, go to my eyes.
Thank you. Ted Cruz is standing right next to him. So here's my question. Does the NAACP plan to organize a news conference of, and whether you do it in D.C. or whether you do it, let's say, in 8, 10 cities where those universities are located, or does an NWAC plan to organize similar news conferences to have actual athletes who are getting NIL money, who are
going to be greatly impacted by this bill if it gets passed?
Are y'all looking to do anything such as this, which is what Republicans did?
There has been, there was also an additional press conference that happened right before that
press conference happened where the president of the National College Players Association was
there, Senator Chris Murphy.
We also had folks, Megan Burke, National Women's Soccer League Players Association.
that was converged by the AFL-CIO,
parents of Jordan McNair,
the college football player who died of a heat strode during practice as well.
And we also had some student athletes
that was from women's basketball and men's football players
to join that virtual press conference that happened right before.
But I absolutely agree with you that we must have
a communication plan of how we plan to communicate
what is exactly in this Protect College Sports Act
to our community.
but we must continue to really amplify that message of what is all within this bill.
But it was similar to that press conference when that was held the day prior.
Michael.
All right, Fred, how you doing, Tileak?
I'm doing good.
Go mob, Frat.
All right, so my question is...
Boo mob?
What, Roller.
What the hell y'all just say?
Boo mob?
Say, go mob.
Go mob.
Go mob?
Don't worry about a roller. Go mind. Don't worry about a roll.
What the hell is that?
So, so.
So, make sure y'all scream before that part and crop that when he said it.
Yeah, that sounds like some Martian language, but go ahead.
I know you've been talking about the out-of-bounce campaign, and I've been talking about that a lot.
And, and I wanted to, well, first of all, the NACP got a lot of backlash from people who didn't understand it.
thought that you were telling black athletes not to not to play at all not to play you know
football or basketball at all but and that's not what you were saying but how do you connect
the two policies because with with the protect college sports act is actually going to put a
cap on how much college athletes can earn so you had some black people saying oh you're
trying to get the, you're trying to keep the athletes from getting the bag. And Roland talked about
they here on the show as well, all the people talking about, oh, you're trying to stop
them from getting the bag. But this bill would actually limit how much bag they can get.
So how do you connect the two to actually galvanize African Americans as well and voter turnout
for midterm elections? Because this all ties to politics. This all deals with policy and how
policy impacts economics.
Of course, as I made the major flag around the billion dollar that was put into the bill
over the course of six years that was given to HBCUs, we've been very clear that protecting
athletes should not require granting these sweeping protections to these institutions.
Oh, wait, whoa, whoa, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Hold on, wait, wait, wait, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. You said the bill has, you said the bill has
how much in it for HBCUs?
There is a billion on the table
over the course of six over six years.
Where is that mentioned?
Because it's a 171 page bill.
I've seen no money mentioned in the bill.
It was, we're going to put,
they were going to put nearly a billion dollars
on the table for over six years for HBCUs,
but it was not a guaranteed investment,
but instead it was a political bargaining chip
because it was the authorization,
because they were authorizing a billion dollars
towards HBCUs,
but it was not.
appropriated to HBCU.
So that was one major flag as well.
That was with.
Okay, got it.
Okay, go ahead.
And so, as I mentioned before,
connecting those two things together and saying,
you know, you cannot have black players making billions of dollars,
making billions of dollars for your athletic programs,
but not give fair representation.
And so really connecting the issues to our HBCUs and also our students,
our students who are attending these institutions and saying,
It's just a drop in a bucket for them in our institutions.
Okay.
Matt.
So I'll readily admit I don't know everything in the bill.
I understand kind of the basic highlights.
But here's my question.
I know the NAACP stands for union labor and stands for, you know, laborers, right?
And this to me is a very basic labor issue.
It's people participating in a free market and that being hampered because of the money.
interest. So my question is, how is the NAACP addressing the basic labor parts of this?
Because this to me seems to be the seminal issue here, which is where you have the athletes
who are the value, right, who are providing the value, and that's being hampered and being
controlled by Congress or trying to be controlled through this bill. And I'd like to know
kind of what the NAACP stance is on that and the nexus between the athletes and the labor
and, you know, the NACP's position on labor. Yeah, absolutely. And our, our, our, our
Our call is for collective bargaining rights for our student athletes.
Our student athletes should retain their ability to obtain an education if a sports-related
injury makes it impossible for them to play or compete.
And we are also calling for lifetime paid health care for our student athletes who are
experiencing life-altering injuries.
And our understanding, as we talk about the whole NIL contract, that that ownership
of individual NIL and contractual in contractual rights is important for our student athletes.
And I'm also calling that revenue share with university from school, use of the NIL should also be shared to our players as well.
And so this whole support for the whole student, understanding that, you know, labor rights and they are putting their talents and their bodies on the line for this sports that are making billion dollars, making these programs billions and billions of dollars.
And so we're also calling for that as well for that collective bargaining rights for our student athletes.
Justin well first let me just say
Tyler you're doing a good job hanging in there man I know this has not been an easy one
my question before I get to the question I just want to go back to the
herb street clip that was wild what a coward I hadn't seen that and he needs to figure out
that you know there's no third way when it comes to issues of morality you have to take a
position and you just end up looking like a coward so that was that was wild my question is
about you know that you're talking about collective bargaining
but what about just a seat of the table when it comes to this bill?
Like, can there be a call for the athletes to have more of a say in the bill itself?
Because everything I've read about this bill is that the athletes and there's no representation,
even in this discussion.
No, I absolutely would agree with you.
And our hope is that this entire bill gets scrapped,
which is while we're fighting against it.
Of course, they had conversations with folks such as SWAT commissioners,
et cetera, representing certain associations or folks within our community.
But I will say that they go back to the drawing board and actually have conversations with
students and student athletes, whether that's going into towns and having town halls
or whether that's how we show up and organize before our college day, you know, game days.
I think there's a lot still to be done.
And I also think, you know, we got to go back to the drawing board as relates to how HBCU
and black students are represented within this bill.
Oftentimes, we are the afterthought
is exactly as we see with the billion dollar allocation.
And so we got to fight for more.
We deserve more.
And there's a lot more that is owed to us
that is not within this bill.
First of all, let's deal with some facts here.
HBCUs are not getting a billion dollars in this bill.
They're not.
That's actually the ceiling,
meaning
they potentially can get up to a billion dollars
so that's first
now anytime there's a bill
that ain't got money in it
it's a bullshit bill
okay
I'm very clear
on this bill
HBCUs are getting
pimped and played
listen we've reached out
to Thurgood Marshall Fund
now Carol do they agree to come on the show
Okay, well, Third Good Marshall Fund, we've been trying to call them for three days
about coming on the show to explain why they support this bill.
They ain't got back to us.
We reached out to the Nine Negro College Fund.
They support this bill.
They ain't declared the client to come on the show.
Now, here's my whole deal, Third Good Marshall Fund and UNCF.
You cannot say you represent black people if you are scared to come talk to black people.
You need to have the courage to say why you support this bill.
Now, let me explain to y'all how they're playing HBCUs, and I need all the folks in the HBCU community
to listen to what I am saying.
There's a guy named Cody Campbell, who's a billionaire, who's a graduate of Texas Tech University.
he's the one who has been funding their NIL program.
He's the chairman of the board of the Texas Tech Board of Regents.
He is going to spend seven figures on ads to run during HBCU games in support of the bill.
This right here is from awful announcing.
And Seymophore also reported this.
Per Seymophore sources, saving college sports, a group founded by controversial Texas Tech University Board of Regents Chair Cody Campbell, is launching a seven-figure ad by supporting the bill that will first air during HBCU games over the first two weekends of the college football season before running on national cable in the second week of September.
the ad features Dr. Charles McClellan,
the commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference,
pointing toward the support the act has received
from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund
and the United Negro College Fund.
So this is the commercial that they are running.
So first of all HBCU people,
y'all need to be aware of who is funding the commercial.
that's running during HBCU games.
Now, I'm going to play the commercial,
so y'all see it.
The SWAT did not pay for the commercial.
The MEAC ain't paid for the commercial.
The HBCU Congress did pay for the commercial.
Let me be real clear.
The MAGA
Texas Tech billionaire
who is the chairman of the board of Texas Tech University
is the one paying for these commercials
targeting HBCUs.
Historically, black colleges and universities
provide student athletes not just an opportunity
to succeed, but a legacy.
Let's see, hold up.
Something is going to see.
I'm going to try to see if I can get this to
sometimes these things don't properly play
video-wise.
Let's see here.
Let's try it.
Let's try it now.
Not just an opportunity to succeed.
but a legacy to carry forward.
That's why groups like Thurgood Marshall
and the United Negro College Funds
are proud supporters of the Protect College Sports Act.
This legislation protects the rights of student athletes everywhere
and provides nearly $1 billion for historically black colleges and universities,
so no school gets left behind.
Join the team and help carry this legacy forward.
Okay, so Tyler, just so we're clear, that's a lie.
the bill does not provide a billion dollars to HBCUs.
What it does is it authorizes Congress to, if they choose to allocate or appropriate,
up to a billion dollars over several years for all HBCUs.
That line that Charles McClellan just stated is a lie.
Absolutely, and I think that is a major flag.
Like, those, that money will never see the light of days where our campuses.
And we're talking about over the course of six years, what does a billion dollars do for all of our institutions?
The long loading times, the glitchy video calls.

Over the course of six years, it was literally a drop in the bucket.
And I think what we see here is really between the fine print,
as we even look at this commercial, you cannot put HR,
put logos of TMCF and UCF behind it and talk about how billion dollars
and millionaires are using the imagery of black people to sell
and talk about black power in this moment,
when in turn, it is hurting our institutions.
And I think we really have to, in our point, as you mentioned,
and how we are reaching folks and talking to folks
and our comms plan of outreach
over the course of these next couple of weeks
leading up to, you know, election day
about how this is hurting our communities
because we have folks within our community
saying and saying it's good for us
when it's really a drop in a bucket
and they're giving us monopoly money at this point.
Let me also see, see here's my other deal.
If you're the third-grid Marshall Fund and UNCF,
you know what you should have,
said, okay, Ted Cruz,
okay, Maria Cantwell,
okay, Chris Coons, okay, all y'all.
If y'all want our support for this bill,
tell the Republican governors
to give the HBCU the $13 billion
they're owed when they were cheated out of the land grant money.
That's $13 billion.
Tennessee State is owed $2 billion alone.
Fort Valley State is old,
so there's more money that's actually
old to individual HBCU
that's actually in this bill.
But again, I need people to understand.
And so, hey, Kenan,
we're going to do this here.
I want y'all, I'm going to see you to link, Kenan.
We're going to put the whole
bill on blackstarnetwork.com.
And in Thailand,
y'all need to be having this whole bill
on the NACCP's website.
And you need to be pulling out the provisions.
And again, I want people to understand.
that what this bill does,
and this is, I'm using pimp for a reason,
and I'm very clear,
I believe that they, the reason they inserted HBCUs in this bill
is because they knew they were going to get pushed back
because the people playing football and basketball
who are making the millions of black athletes.
They needed some black cover.
and that's what they've gotten.
What they also did was merge the Ignite, this other bill,
with this bill, and what no money in the Ignite bill.
So I'm like, what we're doing here?
But I read this the other day on the, and again,
and I'm not, let me real clear,
I'm going after on this bill, the NCAA,
I called out Calipari, I called out the head coaches,
this bill has no cap on how much the coaches can make.
Kirby Smart at Georgia is making $13 million a year.
This bill would cap what athletes are paid at $20 million.
That means Kirby Smart is making more by himself
than what all the other athletes combined would make.
And I need the people watching.
And so when all these people say,
And I'm about to throw a number out, by to mess y'all up.
So all these people are trying to convince us that college sports is in chaos.
Do y'all know, in the last two years, $750 million is being paid out in college sports to buy out the contracts of football and basketball coaches?
Now, I'm now confused.
How is it chaotic that you can find $750 million to buy out the coaches contracts
and hire new coaches, new coaches, but now the players get money is causing the chaos.
Problematic.
Rich get richer.
And I think that that is why we must hold them accountable.
And as you mentioned, and I'm glad that you brought it up on the show.
the fact that a Texas Tech billionaire is trying to tell black folks what black folks should do.
Yeah.
And we got to be mindful and ensure that our folks know what is exactly in this bill.
And it is not helpful, but it's more harmful.
Yep.
He's funding the whole deal.
All right, then, Tideck, I certainly appreciate it.
Again, let me know when y'all plan to mobilize and organize black folks on this,
because, again, we do not have much time on this very thing.
We don't have much time.
No, I appreciate it.
I appreciate you challenging the question and always lifting the issues up.
And to eight more years of the Black Star Network, always grateful to join.
I appreciate it.
Thanks a lot.
I want you to understand, again, this is page 149 of 171 pages.
They have in here, y'all, is called Title III.
HBCU sports media and connectivity program.
And when you read in here,
it lays out that the Assistant Secretary
will award grants to eligible entities
to support long-term improvements
to broadband information technology,
media infrastructure, including infrastructure
for the production, transmission,
and distribution of live coverage
of intercollegiate athletic events
and local journalism for student learning.
So when you start,
going through this, y'all, and you start
reading this sort of stuff, and it lays
out what they're going to do, how they're going to
provide everything. Y'all, let me tell you
something right now. The issue with
HBCUs ain't got a damn
thing to do with a live transmission of a
college game. The problem is that
HBCUs don't have no real media
rights contracts. That's the real
deal. Okay? That's what a money
is. That's what a money
is. And so,
when I sit here and look at this,
and again, the reason this ticks me off the most, Matt,
they are using HBCUs as cover
when we know that it's a ton of black athletes
who are economically benefiting from NIL
and their families and their moms and daddies
and brothers and sisters.
You got freshmen buying mama and daddy a house,
when before, man, I hope they make it to the league so they can take care of mom and daddy.
They're doing this now as freshmen.
Yep.
Yeah, and that's exactly why I asked TILIC the question about the labor issue, because what this is really about is recalibrating
the power as between the athletes who are the people who put the butts in the seats and those
who are the boosters and the moneyed interest and the people paying the NIL.
and, you know, just I don't know enough about the bill, so I want to readily admit, I don't know
every part of the bill. I've only read a couple synopsies. I wasn't really aware of how the bill
worked. But in looking at the little bit that I've seen, first off, look at the language, quote,
protect college sports. It doesn't become a protection issue until you have exactly what you're
talking about. A freshman who now is a star athlete who can buy his parents a house or can make a
bunch of money now has an amount of leverage in the market he would not have had five years ago.
before NIL.
So this is about reining in that power.
This is about a labor struggle.
And this is also about, as Chris Sim said,
about making sure you protect those moneyed interests
between ESPN and those with the media rights deals.
But what I think is disingenuous about this
is that these are the same people,
generally Republicans,
who talk about free markets all the time, right?
Don't put regulation on me.
Don't regulate me.
Don't hamper my ability to make money.
don't stifle my entrepreneurial ability,
don't stifle my ability
to sell my proverbial wares in the market
and get whatever I'm worth.
That's precisely what these young people are doing.
They're running a football
and they're making money the way they should be
for running that football
and putting the butts in the seats
of the University of Texas,
Darryl K. Royal Memorial Stadium
where I was this weekend
when you text me
and we got that legendary win.
That's what this is about.
I might give a damn about y'all.
Just keep talking.
This is about,
labor rights, and this is about divesting the athletes of the power. That's all it comes down to.
And, I mean, I don't know all of the contours, the NAACP's, you know, pushback against the bill,
but that's what I see very saliently, and that's what I think is dishonest about this,
because if we're going to talk about free markets, then let these young people not only earn,
but let them fetch on the free market what they are worth and what they can negotiate.
That's what happens in professional sports, and that's what happens in the free market in terms of
careers, right? As an attorney,
firm wants to pay me better. They think I'm a
good trial attorney. Then I go fetch what
I'm worth, so to speak. That's all that we
see happening here, but they're trying to take back
that power from the athletes. And that's why
I think it's problematic.
Justin, you're there in Tennessee.
People just need to understand what's going on.
What they're mad about,
they're mad that a player can
sit here and say, nah,
I ain't going to take $200,000 from you.
How much you're going to pay me?
Or you're going to pay me $700,000?
you're going to pay me a million, I'm going to see y'all later.
Then they go to the school over here for a million, and they show up and show out.
Another school said, yo, we'll give you $4 million to transfer.
They're like, yo, I'm out.
What they don't like is the fact, they don't like the fact that, damn, we've been getting over.
They've been sharecroppers all these years.
And now, we now have to pay for the labor.
So all these people are in confusion.
I showed you John Calipari.
Well, John Calipari, when you left UMass
to go to Kentucky, was that about money?
And was that about your perks?
See, Nick Saban.
Nick Saban, I didn't everybody understand.
Nick Saban left, he retired from Alabama,
making 10, 9, 10 million a year.
Nick Sabin owns two Mercedes.
dealerships in Alabama off the labor of the players.
That's what they don't like, Justin.
Yeah, coaches have been doing exactly the thing that they're upset
that players are doing now.
And it's been going on my whole life.
So now the same people that had the cartel before are coming around saying,
no, we need to be the one that fix this.
Trust us.
So I think you just got to go back to who's asking for this,
who's pushing for this.
It's not the players.
You know, the players don't even have it, the seat at the table.
And I think you're right to hone in on why are they even talking about HPCUs?
They're talking about HPCUs because they're using them as cover.
That's really gross.
You know, Tennessee State, like you said, is owed billions of dollars.
We know they don't care about HBCUs.
So they're using them for political cover because they're good at it.
Your first clue that this isn't on the up and up is that Ted Cruz is the fate.
out in front. You know, we all know Ted Cruz is a snake, and for him to be the one that they're
putting out in front tells you all you really need to know, what's really gross is that there are
Democrats that are going along with this. So, you know, in this seven weeks, it would be nice to
see some mobilization and put some pressure on Democrats, especially since by the time they come back,
Speaker Jeffrey's might be the one deciding what comes up for a vote. So it may be that the
Democrats are the ones that need to hear from people more than anybody else so that they don't go along for this,
No, no, no, no. The reason it should be Democrats and Republicans, because there are people, a lot of our people are represented their constituents in these districts of Republicans too.
For sure. I'm just saying, you understand it's both. Right, right. But here's the problem we have right now. This thing was like 74, 24, 24 in the Senate. Okay, so you got Democrats and Republicans who are backing it. And so, yo, you might have 300 votes between Democrats and Republicans, you know, in the House. So even if Democrats get controlled,
Republicans can do a discharge petition.
All that needs to 18 votes, the sucker passes.
So I need everybody up.
Now, I found the number.
So again, y'all, this literally,
this is literally the last line
on the last page in the bill.
It's 171 pages.
This is the last line of the whole bill.
There is authorized to be appropriated
to carry out this.
title, $180 million for each of fiscal years, 227 through 2032.
Let me say that again.
The money is not in this bill.
By the way, it could be.
They could actually put the billion dollars in this bill.
No, they're saying what this bill does, it authorizes Congress.
if they so desire Michael to appropriate,
to as they say, to carry out this title
$180 million for each of fiscal years,
$2027 through $2032.
But it does not mandate that they do it.
It gives them the option,
and it don't mean Congress is like,
yeah, we ain't going to do $180 this year.
We're just only going to do $50.
That's why it's trash.
Yeah, you know, this is something that Derek Johnson, president of the NWACP, pointed out Tuesday night when he was on ESPN talking about this.
There's a good article from the New York Times that talks about how he rips protect college sports act.
And he called it Greed by the conferences.
And this is really the Protect College Act because it goes to just what you've been saying, Roland.
And also, I just want to say tonight, and even last night, when you played the segment from Senator Cory Booker on the Senate floor,
last night was the most coverage I've seen from any major news outlets on this.
And tonight is even more coverage.
I haven't seen extensive coverage on this from CNN or MS Now, anything like that.
But yeah, so you have colleges who now have to pay more money because they were making $14 billion, the article says here.
They generate $14 billion in revenue annually, major colleges and universities from football and basketball.
Now they have to spend tens of millions of dollars collectively or more for these athletes.
And it's like, wait a second.
is, you know, they're trying to figure out how to protect their earnings.
That's what it is.
And then they throw in up to $1 billion for HBCUs.
But HBC, I doubt of HBCU see any of that money.
And if it somehow gets authorized, what stops the states from holding up the money like they've been holding up that we talked about before,
or $12 to $13 billion already owed by the states to HBCUs.
So this is more of a con gang, okay?
And yet, this is something from Senator Ted Cruz,
who's a con man and a lackey for Donald Trump.
Well, again, I just need people to understand what's going on here.
And the bomb line is this here.
The female athletes, this bill claims to protect,
there are a lot of female athletes who are making bank off of NIL.
Angel Reese made more money off of NIL at LSU
than she's making in the WNBA.
Y'all, that's real.
And let me tell you something right now,
when this money is capped,
when they cap it,
the female athletes, they ain't getting that money.
They're not.
Y'all, you need to understand the game that's going on.
This, there's, Congress has no,
there serves no purpose for Congress to be involved in this.
The NCAA can establish a five-year eligibility rule because they have already done it.
They can do it right now.
The NAACP could say one window for the portal.
They can sit here and say you could only transfer with no penalty one time.
And if you transfer a second time, you got to sit out a year.
They don't need Congress for that.
The people who are behind this, the SEC, the Big Ten, the Big Ten, the big.
Big 12, the major conferences, and the television networks.
Because what they desire, they want continuity.
They don't like the fact that a guy can go from one school to another school to another school
and keep getting paid.
They don't like that.
That's what's going on here.
And again, I need y'all understand, the reason I was pressing entirely, the NACP opposes the bill.
But what I'm looking for for the NWACP to be organized and mobilized black groups to also pose the bill.
Because the group that's supporting the bill, they've got millions of dollars.
They have been running ads on television for months in support of this bill.
And they've been going, oh, we must support.

Port Olympic sports.
We must support that y'all, let me be real clear.
Listen, Matt Sittan, Texas, Justin in Tennessee, Michael, then Detroit, that's in Michigan.
I'm born and raised in Texas.
Tell y'all something right now.
the only two damn sports
that are bringing in real money,
football,
and basketball is so far behind them,
you can't even see them in the rearview mirror.
That's it.
Football and basketball.
So when we say who is finally reaping the benefits of NIL,
it's a lot of black kids.
And that's what they're upset about.
Because, yeah, they love the free market
until black folks start and benefit from the free market.
Game, recognized game.
So, Thurgood Marshall, Fawn, the UNCF,
y'all need to come to this show
and talk to black people
because this is the only daily news show

The UNCF, listen, UNCF, y'all hit me about everything else.
Third grade Marshall, y'all hit me about everything else.

Y'all need to come on
and talk to us about
why y'all are supporting this bill.
Don't run and hide.
Come on.
And Carol, she's going to call Charles McClellan,
the SWAC commissioner.
And let's see if he comes on.
And a MIAC commissioner.
Every HBCU conference commissioner
is supporting this bill, I want
them on this show looking us in the eye
and telling our audience.
Why?
Before we go, y'all, I saw this video and, man, this is what I call
Brain the Funk.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott got sick and tired of these punk asses
at the Fox Affiliate in Baltimore that's owned by Sinclair,
always attacking him.
And so Fox 45 reporter Keith Daniels, he got the business
from Brandon Scott, the mayor, after that was a shooting that injured seven people,
including a three-year-old child.
This took place Wednesday in East Baltimore.
Watch this.
...stirmed by this with the comments that you're making and so forth.
You've made those comments before, but it doesn't really seem to be making a difference, doesn't?
Well, I think Keith.
I knew that you were going to ask some dumb-ass ridiculous question tonight.
It is. A three-year-old was shot, right?
You and I could sit here and talk about this.
If this was your three-year-old, you would want everyone to be upset, right?
You would want people to.
I didn't say it.
You're going to let me talk.
You want an interview or you want to talk?
I'm worried about a three-year-old child being shot.
You're worried about perception and some story that you're crying.
The only thing that it matters to me is the life that we're talking about that's being fought for in a hospital in Baltimore.
Right?
This is what I say to you all the time.
This is why I say to you guys every week that I'm not out here celebrating that we have the lowest amount of violence that this city has ever seen because it's still too much.
Because one is too damn many for me, Keith.
That's why I'm not happy.
I'll never be happy.
I will die unhappy if we still have violence at all because we all should want it to be none.
Yes, having a 50-year low is great.
That's a great thing for us to acknowledge.
But it does not matter right now to a 3-0 who doesn't understand why they're in that much pain.
That's what I'm trying to get you to understand.
All right.
Nah, that's how you get checked.
This is the reporter Keith Daniels, who Mayor Scott was checking.
Again, he works for Fox 45.
That is the Sinclair-owned affiliate.
And I just think you all to understand that Sinclair right-wing local network,
that the chairman of the board of Sinclair
buys the Baltimore son
and the Baltimore son
on his ownership and Fox 45
have been constantly attacking Mayor Scott
for the last several years
and they attacked him
in the mayor race and then when he blew
everybody else out they had to realize
they had to kiss his ass and so
part of this is an agenda
of Sinclair television
and their chairman constantly attacking
this black mayor.
And we see this with
Sinclair and all his other markets
across the country.
Michael, you first.
Yeah, I saw that
club and I've been following somewhat
the attacks on
Brandon Scott from
Sinclair Media. I know you've had
brother
out of Baltimore,
Devon Love, I think it was.
You had on, you've been talking about that.
So this is a good
response. And it seemed like Keith was more focused on trying to disrupt or interject negativity into that press conference than really concerned about the seven people who were shot in the young child who was shot.
So, you know, Brandon has been doing some fantastic work there in Baltimore, so he needs to keep it up.
and not worry about people like Keith.
Well, Justin, this is the chairman of Sinclair, David Smith.
Again, he owned the Baltimore son.
And between the Baltimore son and the Fox affiliate,
they have been attacking black leadership in Baltimore.
They've been attacking Governor Westmore.
It is a right wing, it is a constant right-wing hit job
on black elected officials in that state.
Yeah, I'm glad you're calling out,
Sinclair. I'm glad you're putting a face on the reporter. I think it's really important to name and
shame this stuff. There's a really creepy video about the Sinclair anchors getting all getting fed the
same lines and saying the same things at the same time. So this is an echo chamber for sure. He handled
it perfectly. You know, every time one of those things happens, it's an opportunity to show grace under fire
and to show what real leadership is. And Brandon really did that. Reminds me of Mayor Brandon Johnson in
Chicago. He's been doing a lot of the same things. He's been having
these press conferences getting attacked in much the same way, probably by the Fox outlet there.
And he just holds his own.
And again, it's just an opportunity.
But it really speaks to the failure of local media in a lot of ways.
We see it around here too a lot where, you know, they tend to kind of tow the right-wing
conservative line in a lot of ways and carry their water.
So, you know, I just, it was a really, I saw that moment before you played it.
That was really great.
And, you know, again, it's real leadership on display.
Indeed, indeed. Matt?
I hadn't seen it.
I mean, seeing it now, I echo Michael and Justin, pardon me, if I said the wrong name, sentiments.
I think that's right.
And I think, you know, it's important for people to see politicians not staying always in that little box, right,
where they're trying to be overly genteel and how they respond.
I think sometimes you have to speak very directly to it because a lot of these questions are disingenuous.
I mean, that's what they do.
They ask a question as though it is seeking a genuine substantive answer, but it's, in fact, attacking
you.
And I appreciate that he called it out directly, especially in the way that he did.
Now, I think sometimes that's going too far.
I think we see too many politicians attacking journalists who are doing their job, asking them
questions they don't want to be asked.
But I think discerning people can tell the difference between a genuine question that the
politician doesn't like in a disingenuous question, which is precisely what you saw here.
So I'm glad he reacted that way.
And I think that's a perfect speaking to the Chicago mayor, Brandon Johnson,
because he's, I think, an exemplar at that.
He gets asked ridiculous questions all the times,
and he absolutely blast the reporters,
which I think you have to do to let them know they don't have, you know,
they don't have, you know, latitude to do that to you.
All right then.
Folks, that is it for us.
Let me thank Matt, Justin and Michael been on today's show.
Folks, I'll be broadcast live Monday, Monday,
from Columbia, South Carolina.
of a man, Alex English, the Hall of Famer.
He has his course annual golf tournament,
so I'm looking forward to doing that
and enjoying that golf tournament.
We were going to show you the recap
of the Chris Tucker golf tournament today,
but we're going to hold that for next week's show.
We had a great time of Chris Tucker.
Y'all, y'all, see the video.
It's going to be hilarious.
All the stuff that we were talking about.
Matt, Matt, why the hell are you frowning?
Matt, hold up.
Matt, have you...
Hold on, that's right.
I'm sorry, that's right.
From last week, Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt,
have you made any plans to attend
how university is a homecoming?
Well, and I want all your viewers to know that you have the audacity.
Matt, I'm asking you any questions.
Matt, I'm asking you a question, Matt, I'm asking you a question, Matt.
Have you made any plans to attend a how university homecoming?
Look.
Hey, Logan, are you in the control room?
I'm not answering your question.
I'm going to talk about what I want to talk about what I want to talk.
Hey, Logan, are you in the control room?
talk about how.
Hey,
Matt,
have you learned,
have you learned,
have you learned the Howard signals
in the last week?
Have you learned how it was there last week?
I'm just saying.
And not only that.
I'm just saying,
Rodney,
after last week,
after last week,
how do you come on here?
How do you come on here
and not wear Howard shirt?
I don't know what the hell of this,
Gabriel.
He did it.
Logan, he did it.
Okay, Gabriel, get your ass over here.
Gabriel said,
Logan did it wrong last week.
So what the hell is y'all thing?
I don't know.
It's supposed to be,
Bison, let me get two claps and a horns up.
Hold on, stop it.
Bison, let me get two claps
and a horns up.
Okay, what the hell?
So it's not two is one.
This is fam you.
This is a snake.
First of all, that ain't no damn snake.
But anyway, go on.
What's your thing again?
So we do.
Bison, let me get two claps and a horns up.
Bison, let me get two claps
and a horn's up.
Now, where y'all start that?
We start, I think, probably my freshman year, like 2021.
Okay.
Well, Matt ain't been to homecoming in 15 years.
Matt, you got to learn it.
I mean, he ain't been to, Matt, Matt ain't been to, so he claims University of Texas more than he claims Howard.
And he didn't even go there.
I don't.
No, I don't.
No, I'm just saying, I got, listen, I got two, I got two bison who work here, Matt.
So I'm just saying, I mean, I, and listen, I ain't.
You got, and then you got learned this.
What, okay, what the hell is that one?
What's that?
So this is what you do with your bison family,
so y'all can do it together.
So you, you know that.
And then we, yeah.
Matt don't know none of those.
Oh, but he'll do hook him horns all day.
See, again, he's claiming,
he's claiming an institution he never even went to.
His parents went there,
but he got more burnt orange stuff
than he got bison stuff.
Like, even after last week,
I can't believe he didn't.
come on this show wearing a
bison shirt, but we know who his allegiance
is with. Matter of fact, let me show y'all
who his allegiance is with
since, because, you know, we ain't got
no evidence of Matt in
in, uh,
uh, we rarely
ever see, uh,
look at it. He got a hat.
He got a hat and he got,
hold on y'all. Let me,
let me, let me, let me, let me, let me, air drop this.
I just want, I just want you all to see
who Matt's allegiance.
is with.
So, Matt, when did you so-called graduated from Howard?
2008.
So you so-called graduated from Howard in 2008.
It is very rare.
Somebody said, Matt just got on mute.
It's very rare that you actually, so, yeah, here you are,
decked out and all that, ugly-ass, burnt orange,
but no Howard shirt, no Howard hat.
You know, no bison, two claps, and, I mean, nothing.
I'm just saying, I mean, after last week's show,
did your fellow bison, were they embarrassed by your lack of allegiance to H.U?
First off, hold on, hold on, who answered?
Hold on, hold on, stop, stop.
Let me shout out.
Who answered, Logan did?
Oh, I thought, I thought Anthony did, because Anthony would have to Hampton.
So he said that's the real H.U.
But y'all can have a debate later.
Matt, Matt, go ahead and, go ahead.
Let me first shout out my pops.
My pops, the Reverend Steve May.
Matt, let me ask you a question.
Is there anything?
Is there any Howard?
Is there any Howard stuff behind you?
Is there like a Howard book on the shelf?
Listen, listen, the worst part of this show is I can't talk
because when you start talking, my mic shows out.
Is there anything behind you?
Is there anything behind you that represents Howard University?
Listen.
Listen.
Listen.
Now, Matt, I'm asking if you don't realize.
You got all the books.
Is anybody older?
Matt, you got a bunch of blue-ass books.
You got a bunch of blue books.
Ain't nothing behind you, Howard.
Look.
Listen.
You got baby bison in the studio talking about a hand sign.
Nobody has ever heard.
Matter of fact, all the old heads like me on that video.
Is there any Howard gear even?
Is there any Howard gear even?
near you.
I bet if I...
No, I'm in my firm's conference room.
I bet if I get out of my chair,
I can find some Howard Gear Fassar to you.
What you got?
What you got?
Is that good?
Is that good?
That's a old, dirty-ass lanyard.
Damn.
Exactly.
I'm my old head, baby.
No, no, it's an old dirty lanyard
because your ass ain't said been back to Howard
in a long-ass time.
You ain't got a new lanyard.
Here we go.
No, I try it and true.
I don't need a new one.
I mean, you know you can...
Let's talk about how.
I mean, you know you can buy one online.
I mean, because, you know, I'm just saying, you know, this scene.
You know, what I got to be.
It's the worst part of this, though.
My alf landion is new.
My alpha landion is new.
I mean, I'm just saying, look at this here.
You can't even make...
Your letters are beige.
You can't even make out your letters of your land.
Your lanyet. Your lanyard is so dirty.
What's that, Justin?
What is, Justin, what's that?
Oh, Justin, go come to this bullshit-ass Nick's hat.
They ain't won nothing since the original shaft came out.
And so they finally won some, yeah.
But don't let me have to remind you about that bricklayer,
John Stark's, Justin, game seven versus my use to Rockets in 1995.
That's my guy.
You can't talk about my guy like that.
Yes, I can.
Yes, I can.
Oh, that's my guy.
He built a 10,000 square foot mansion all the bricks that he threw up in that game.
Uh-huh.
So here's a deal, Matt.
That was one game.
One game.
Yeah, it was, yeah, you're right.
It was one game.
It was game seven.
It was the right game.
It was an important game.
That's true.
That's fair.
So let's just, let's just do this here, Matt.
Matt, next week,
if you ain't weighing no Howard stuff,
you can't come on the show.
I mean, I got Howard people in the chat room.
I got Howard Bison people texting me
saying they are thoroughly embarrassed,
thoroughly embarrassed
that a Howard graduate
rarely ever, ever represents him.
You don't throw up the bison,
you throw up the hookah horns.
You don't, I'm just saying,
I mean, I think you're a poser.
Oh, okay.
All right, all right.
All right, cut me deep.
That's cool, man.
I'm cool what you need to say, brother.
I'm just saying.
You know I went to Howard.
That's why when Dr. Carr was on here,
he could attest to it because I was there and Dr. Carl-
No, no, no.
So you may have attended.
You may have attended.
Don't mean you walked.
Across the stage at Howard, I'm a lie about that.
I'm not shy in Bryant.
I told you that.
Don't try to do that to me.
Hey, I don't know, Doc.
I'm just saying the fact that I see more Halloween colors, black and burn orange,
than I see red, white, and blue, and I ain't talking about the American flag.
I'm just saying, I think you have questionable loyalties.
Let me, you know what?
I'm going to text you a picture of me walking across the stage at Howard or in my garb,
and I want you to put it up on the screen right now.
By the fact, we'll do that.
We'll do that.
And we will love to also.
have some 2026 video of you at a homecoming or a game or something.
Well, I mean, apparently I'm a poser, so I'm going to go ahead and send you this photo,
this photo.
So you can see, let me see if I can grab it real quick.
Let me find, oh.
Is it in black?
I'm going to text to you.
Is it in black and white?
I'm going to text it to you right now.
Is it in black and white?
I want you to put it on the screen.
I want you to put it on the screen.
There you go.
I just sent it to you.
And in fact, you'll see a.
