where Senator Cory Booker went after
FBI Roger Cash Patel and Republicans.
Wait until we show you the exchange.
Also, a federal judge tells Donald Trump
keep your name off the Kennedy Center.
Now his handpicked board is voted to shut it down.
Now he's saying he's not going
to spend the 250.
of a million to renovate kidney center unless his name on it. What an arrogant SOB he is. Also on today's
talk, today is National Voter Registration Day. And I'm going to link that to all these people
talking about Conflipan Jasmine Crockett giving a proclamation to Chris Brown and usher.
Yeah, I got some things to say about that. Also, Republican Congressman Thomas Massey,
he makes a long-shot effort to impeach the Secretary of Defense of Peter Hex said.
Also, a former North Carolina deputy will have a stay in court after being charged with attacking a black truck driver in a courtroom.
Boy, that video was absolutely crazy.
And also in tonight's shop, Black Southern Network.com Marketplace segment, a black couple started a health movement with a mission to cultivate the health-movement to improve mind, body, and spirit.
We'll talk about that as well.
Last thing right down.
It's time to bring the funk.
On Roland Martin Unfilcher on the Black Side Network, let's go.
Witness at Country Club, minutes, the gala for the Jeffrey Owlsmore Celebrity Golf Classic will begin.
This is always a fantastic affair because on this night, you always have the performances.
And so Jeffrey's going to perform, Smokey Robinson will perform, Johnny Gill is going to perform, Clifton Davis, Tavaris.
All of these different singers will be up here.
And so we'll be, of course, having that for you as well.
So looking forward to an absolutely fantastic night as they raise money for the arts here in Rhode Island.
We'll also be hearing from Jeffrey and some of those celebrities later in the show.
Let's get going, folks.
We'll talk about what's going here on.
Boy, y'all, it was crazy on Capitol Hill today where there was a Senate hearing with FBI director Cash Patel.
And let's just say New Jersey Senator Cory Booker was not having any of the nonsense from Cash Patel.
it got hot between him and Patel, and then also Booker even went after Republicans as well.
Watch.
Director, in an interview with Breitbart News on May 22, you stated that you were present when President Trump declassified documents at Mar-a-Lago.
You said that Trump had, quote, declassified whole sets of materials in anticipation of leaving government.
You told the Wall Street Journal in August of 2022 that he said that he said, he said, he said, quote, declassified whole sets of materials in anticipation of materials in anticipation of
You told the Wall Street Journal in August of 2022 that you witnessed Trump's issue verbal
declassification orders, particularly related to the FBI's investigation of links between
the Trump campaign and Russia near the end of his administration.
Do you stand by that statement today?
Yes.
Have you ever made a false statement before a grand jury?
Nope.
Director, on May 12th of this year, before the Senate Appropriations Committee, you testified
and I'm quoting you, I can tell you unequivocally,
this FBI is targeting and investigating no journalists, end quote.
But in March of this year, after Elizabeth Williamson of the New York Times reported that you used a full-time FBI SWAT detail to protect and drive your girlfriend,
your agents interview your girlfriend about Mrs. Williamson's reporting. Is that true?
Why are you talking about my loved ones who have been threatened?
I did not ask you.
It's a yes or no question.
It's a yes or no question, and I'm going to answer it.
I'm going to take your failure to answer as an affirmation.
Your agents ran Elizabeth Williamson's name through federal databases to gather information about her, yes or no.
You can say whatever lies you want.
We're not going to participate.
Lies.
Is it a lie?
Are you saying that that is not a fact?
Stop Targson's.
Stop falsely attacking me and my loved ones.
I am not.
have seen multiple people threaten our lives convicted in federal court based on this line of
attack. Mr. Chairman. So I'm not going to participate in it. Chairman, I'm asking yes or no
questions about activities of the FBI. I've answered it. That is a matter of oversight I have a
right to do. I'm not going to, normally I would say, but this seems to be a personal thing to him
and the extent of which it is. It is interesting that he is using resources from the FBI in a way that he's
not willing to be transparent and open about. His agents recommended moving forward to determine
whether a New York Times reporter violated federal stalking law. The Department of Justice, though,
ended it. They said he could no longer do this because there was no legal basis. And it looked
like retaliation against this particular reporter. The fact that he will not discuss it,
the fact that he won't be transparent and accountable, to me is a further indication of him
using FBI resources for his own personal benefit.
Now, he continues to attack the press.
And earlier, when it comes to the New York Times, on April 22nd, his borough gave a written
statement to the New York Times.
They said that investigators are concerned about aggressive techniques and
crossing lines.
He again goes on public where he's willing to discuss things on Fox News.
He said to Sean Hannity, no, no, no, there's no investigation of reporters going on.
He seems comfortable discussing things on Twitter and with Fox News that he's not willing to discuss here.
His bureau investigators were concerned a reporter crossed lines.
And then he said there was absolutely no investigation.
One of those two occasions, he is lying.
Now, let's the record reflect that the director is declining to even discuss this.
The record has your Bureau's written statement.
We have Hannity's public denial where you are clearly willing to talk about these matters.
We have your May 12th testimony.
None of these line up.
Somewhere you're lying.
The message that every reporter in America is getting right now is that we have an FBI director
that is attacking the most vaunted of our amendments,
which is our first one, freedom of the press.
If you write about this director,
this FBI will run your name through government databases.
That's not law enforcement.
That is this man before us,
using a police agency to settle personal grievances
about a story that embarrassed him.
And this is not a one-time thing, Mr. Patel.
You do it often.
In July, you did it.
again. And this time, a federal judge had to stop you. In July, the New York Times reported on security
problems with an airplane from Qatar given to the president. Within two days, you personally went to
the White House and spent the better part of a day directing subpoenas against the reporters who wrote
it. Not a leaker, you went after the reporters. Grand jury subpoenas were served
on three New York Times reporters, armed FBI agents went to their homes.
You subpoenaed their phone company for their call records.
You subpoenaed the records of one reporter's mother.
You get upset when somebody writes a fair story about your girlfriend,
but you're out there using the FBI to go after a reporter's mom.
You supported the records of two reporters' spouses, not their girlfriends, but their spouses.
This is a fact pattern.
Director, the president was secretly shuttled from the Katari jet via an airport catering truck
to a smaller Air Force jet on July 8th.
The story ran the next day on July 9th.
You demanded those reporters' phone records, but you didn't just go back to this period.
As an act of further intimidation of reporters, you went back six months.
all the way to January 1st, before there was even a story, six months before there could have even been a leak.
There was no crime in January. The judge admonished you for this. The judge saw this for what it was, an abuse of power.
On July 23rd, a federal judge in Manhattan took this up. He told your government's lawyer he would throw out every one of those subpoenas.
He raised rather to sanction your lawyers for false statements and sworn applications.
Your own lawyers conceded that there was inadvertent errors, end quote, in their filings.
Director, you talked a lot about your making history.
Has any federal judge in the entire history of the FBI ever asked whether to sanction the government
for what it swore in a subpoena application?
Do you know that?
Yes, I do.
They haven't.
We weren't targeting journalists.
No, we were targeted in the leekers of classified information.
You are abusing this office.
If you're going to mischaracterize.
I'm not characterizing it.
I am stating a fact pattern.
Go ahead.
Nothing have I said is not supported in the facts of your agency.
You're unwilling to offer transparency here and talk about things to deal with your girlfriend.
But you should talk about your personal behavior.
This isn't a personal vendet.
senators on both sides of the aisle should have to know why are you using FBI resources
in ways that benefit yourself and your family and your girlfriend, but you won't even answer
questions. And yet, like a thug, you're using your agency to go after reporters in a chill
to one of the most sacrosanct ideals of the United States of America. They can pass you
all the notes they want. But the truth is clear. Right now,
you are stonewalling this committee for asking simple questions of accountability on how you're using government resources to go after reporters. And yes, there is a chill out there. Reporters like you like, like Hannity, you give them all the information they want. You answer their questions. Reporters you don't like, you subpoena their mother's records. Mr. Director, I have one last pattern of questions. You announced in your
life, in your term, you've announced investigations against a plot on the UFC on the White House law.
You've publicly discussed charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center.
You discussed the 764 network investigation policy.
You are very chattery when it comes to investigations when they are not talked about before this committee.
But here, here you stonewall us.
So let me put this together.
A reporter wrote about you and your bureau ran her name through records and began an investigation.
Reporters wrote about the president and your bureau went to their homes and subpoenaed their mothers.
And the one investigation you promised Congress, the one that president said himself should happen is the one I want to talk about.
You said that when the president claimed that there was a for...

In the Epstein files, that the card he sent,
you promised this committee and others that you would investigate that forgery,
that a forged document on a child's sex traffords birthday book,
you said you would investigate. Has there been any investigation, any witnesses interviewed, any names on what you promised us you would do when it comes to that birthday book?
Before you answer that question, I said at the opening, I'd give you some time to respond if you, as long as you didn't talk over people.
And I think you've been very reserved in that. So answer his.
question and then I'll give you time before I call on Senator Graham.
In that testimony before the House where you said clearly you would launch an investigation,
has that investigation. He's allowing me to answer it. Yeah, answer, please. I am. You going to stop?
You don't? Do you want some time to speak about it? If you give it to me? Go ahead.
Sure. The Obama administration subpoenaed countless reporters did 1,200 interviews of reporters in an investigation into
reporters. This administration
focuses on the leakers of classified
information that endanger the lives of elected
officials and American citizens. We are
not targeting reporters at any point in time.
We are trying to find out who
in the government with access. Mr. Chairman, this is still
my time. He can answer at the end of my time,
but this is still my time. No, he's not.
Your time's up. No, sir, my time
is not up. You allowed Mike Lee
to go two and a half minutes
over, but you had a Democratic senator, you're going to
cut off? At a previous meeting, I let
you go three here
As you have other people. I have one more line of questioning to give.
No, he's...
So, Mr. that I'll make my concluding remark and you can do whatever you want, sir.
My concluding remark is, we don't have an FBI director.
We have a lackey here.
Okay.
Who is using government...
And frankly, he's not even a good lackey.
He's an incompetent lackey.
Okay.
He's like an 18-year-old kid who wants to join a fraternity that he could never be a member of,
doing keg stands and chugging with friends.
He's an embarrassment to the agency and wouldn't qualify even to be an FBI agent, sir.
He won't answer questions for a committee.
He insults Democrats here and you don't step in.
He has a little book by his side
that he literally is using to try to intimidate people
in the same way he intimidates reporters.
He is a disgrace, sir.
And the fact that we are not asking him,
in fact, demanding him to answer the most best basic oversight questions
is a further testimony to what is bad
is not just that we have a rogue FBI agent intimidating reporters.
What's bad is that we have Republicans in the Senate.
that are enabling him to go without any objective oversight or transparency or accountability.
Why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you, why do you why do you why do you
why do you figure you're something special now we've had. I'm not special we've
have we've had one Republican go over and we are not being balanced in your way. Let's
my time has just now reached what Mike Lee did. Let's get it. Let's get it. Let's
We as a committee have done what you've done before, which is ask him to answer basic questions.
He won't even do it in writing.
This is a mockery and a sham.
We have a rogue agent intimidating the press, violating people's First Amendment rights, and doing everything the president has.
You don't show much respect for your chairman.
You've gone on now for three minutes.
I have utter respect for you.
And this is why I know this is not who you are.
You are not holding this witness an objective way to end up.
answer the questions that are given to him by Democratic senators, yet he insults them time and
time again. What he did to Senator Walsh should make this whole committee stand up and walk out
and sanction this man for speaking to one of my colleagues the way he spoke to them. Even Senator
White House, who was then sitting in, tried to control this witness who makes everything personal.
I have a right to ask questions about how he's spending money on his girlfriend.
And yet he stonewalls me, but we'll run on Fox News and talk about any and all these issues.
This is ridiculous.
This is a sham.
And what's bad is not the person sitting there who's a mockery to the office he holds.
What is bad is the people that are enabling him to do so.
You understand, Mr. Director, why during the Kavanaugh hearings,
I let people talk and talk
because it takes longer to shut them up
than it does to let them talk.
Now, you go ahead and say what you wanted to say.
I don't have much to say.
This guy called me a thug.
It's kind of ironic.
He's running for president of the United States.
He just got his 20-second ad campaign.
Next.
Senator Graham.
I think Senator Graham sex.
Were you done?
I'm done.
Somebody behind me is yelling.
Yeah, brother.
I will repeat what you said.
you're getting thrown out, but they can't throw me out.
I'm going to hold this man accountable for as long as he is in his job until he gets fired,
which he probably will because he's incompetent at his job and continues to do things that merit his removal.
Yes, shame on you, sir.
Gregor Patel, were you done?
By the way, violent crime arrest by the FBI in New Jersey, you're up 75% on top of the historic results
we've already delivered for the American people.
Yeah, thanks to the state police and local police officers.
There's nothing I have said here is a lie.
You said your time's up. Are you done or not?
No, are you done or not, sir?
You won't answer my questions.
If you want to my questions, go to the next person.
This is ridiculous.
What a mockery you are.
You are the biggest mockery in the United States Senate, and you're sitting next to ship.
Yeah, well, 8 million people in New Jersey don't think so.
At least I didn't get my job the way you got your job.
Are you going to interfere with Senator Graham asking her questions two?
I certainly will not.
Two as well.
Are you done now?
I am done.
Are you ready to shut up?
I am done, sir.
Let's bring in my panel, Joe Richardson, civil rights attorney, joining us from Los Angeles.
Also, Dr. Larry J. Walker, University Professor, former senior congressional staffer from Orlando, Julian Boudon, former Democratic and U.S. Senate nominee of South Dakota.
Glad to have all three of y'all here.
Things got a little testy there, Larry, but the reality is here.
Cash Patel is a thug.
He is a joke.
He is pathetic.
He refused to answer any questions, and this is who they are.
And Senator Chuck Grassley, he knows it.
He's what?
91, 92 years old.
He can't control it.
The reality is Donald Trump has dominated some of the most grossly incompetent individuals.
They love talking about merit.
They love trashing DEI.
But these people are beyond stupid.
And Cash Patel, he could not answer the question of being called up by a federal judge.
It's like, this is real simple.
Did you do it or not?
That's why he couldn't answer the questions because he know he did it.
He know he was wrong.
He knows he's abusing the resources of the FBI for his girlfriend.
Larry?
Oh, yeah.
I'm sorry, Rowland.
You know, this is embarrassing for the FBI, for agency that, you know, with history,
and it's certainly embarrassing for members of the committee, senators.
He repeatedly, whether it's this hearing or other hearings, lies and, you know, tries to dis-sore information.
And I'm glad Senator Booker continue to challenge him on this issue, because,
just to letting him with get away and not answering questions or lying is ridiculous.
Roland Liss, we remember the picture he took in, you know, after, you know, the Winter Olympics
with the hockey team, you know, chucking down, you know, alcohol.
This is, this is not reflective of advantage of the president's cabinet drinking alcohol,
you know, during an international event.
We already also know in terms of reporting in New York Times and other, you know, entities.
He's purposely going after reporters who are reporting what they were doing their job.
And so if you believe in the Constitution and you believe in FBI director,
suppose to have a level decorum and hold other people responsible,
then you can't allow this kind of behavior.
And listen, Roland, I've said on a number of committee hearings.
I've never seen over the last couple months in terms of level of disrespect
that members of the cabinet had for members of the House and Senate.
And like I said, Senator Booker has a right to hold them accountable,
and he should continue to do so.
And Senator Grass, Chairman Grassley should do a better job of controlling witnesses.
But Joe, here's the reality.
That's what Donald Trump wants.
They want this sort of behavior.
They want this contempt when it comes to answering questions.
This is who these people are.
They are thugs.
Cory Booker stayed focused.
He stayed focused.
I liked his dig.
It's like I just saw somebody do something.
Corey's not performing.
He's telling the truth.
And he's hitting where it hurts and how it hurts.
hope is that people are actually listening. Get into the substance of what Cory Booker is saying.
This really should make everybody shaking their boots. Why? Because this is the FBI director
basically saying that if you write something that we don't like, if you do something we don't
like, we're going to put all the power that we have to undo you, to scare you, to reach out
to your mama. Come on now. We have to be serious about what's going on. And at the end of the day,
too many people in the administration are not serious. They're not competent. He let him know. He hit him on his
competence. He hit him on his girlfriend. You know, Cory Booker hit him on just about everything.
But he was telling the truth. And Chuck Grassley, you know, he's a picture boy for retirement.
You know, he needs to go on and let it go because he can't talk fast enough to keep up with what's going on there.
And so really, there's going to come a day when the Senate will be Democrat again, whether it's right now or whether it's later,
the House will be Democrat again, whether it's now or it's later, we hope that it's now,
and where De, where Patel is not the FBI director.
Two, these people will not look around the corner and see that there's going to come a time.
Trump might not be able to protect you from everything, and at the end of the day,
you're going to figure out, just like Giuliani figured out, just like a whole lot of other folks figured out,
that Trump is not going to roll with you like that.
When it's time to cut you away, he's going to do it real, real easy.
So hopefully they're looking around the corner and think about their futures.
because I'd like to think that the Cory Bookers of the world will get their opportunities to put me and heft behind what it is they're saying because they're in power and they can do some things that they need to do.
Julian, again, what people need to go ahead and understand is this is who they are.
They perform for an audience of one. He wants to see them disrespect U.S. senators, especially Democrats.
He wants to see them not answer questions.
and Senator Cory Booker is right.
Cash Patel and others will gladly go on Fox News
and talk all day, every day,
but they will stonewall the oversight responsibility
of the United States Senate and the United States House
because Donald Trump, his attitude is he's a king.
He doesn't have to answer to anybody.
Yeah, absolutely.
You know, we have seen Cory Booker, you know,
get really activated in previous hearings,
but this is not one of those moments.
He wasn't politically grandstanding today.
He was holding the director of the FBI accountable, which is his job on this committee.
You know, this is not one of those instances where he was just yelling at Patil.
He was questioning the independence of the FBI director, which should be the case when you talk about someone who was appointed by the president.
Listen, these directors are appointed by the president, but then also confirmed by the Senate.
And Patel is not only questioning, making folks question the credibility of the FBI because of his history.
He's making folks question the credibility of law enforcement agencies all across this country.
And for me, as a former law enforcement officer myself, as a former state trooper,
and also a former nominee for U.S. Marshal under the Biden administration, this is appalling.
Every single law enforcement agency ultimately should be able to operate on public trust.
But public trust also comes with accountability.
And I'm glad Cory Booker stood up and did his job today.
All right, folks, hold tight one second.
I've got to go to a break when we come back.
National Voter Registration Day, and a lot of people are spending lots of time talking about Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett,

A real person walked her through the whole thing and now she understands better what's
going on. But also it's not just her. A woman in Yonkers wrote in saying the process was

Okay, so there's been a ton of conversation.
There have been lots of people on social media talking about this here.
I have seen other shows, do interviews, talking about, oh my God, what happened that she was wrong, bringing up the domestic abuse pass of Chris Brown, people talking about Usher, folks saying, well, they're not engaged in politics and turning out to vote.
And let me explain something, y'all.
All of the folks who are, if you are spending that much time talking about any relevant congressional proclamation, and again, I'm not dissing of congressional proclamation.
but I got about 30 of them, y'all.
And here's the whole deal.
We are less than 60 days from the midterm elections.
I am not going to spend any energy fixated on the presentation of a proclamation.
I'm not.
So if any of y'all, and the only reason I'm stating this,
because if any of y'all out there, if y'all are looking for me to do a comment,
or interview, Representative Jones, Representative Crockett, any of these people, I'm not,
because it's a complete waste of my time.
The bill that goes before the United States Senate that deals with college football is going
to have an adverse impact on black players.
That's more important than this issue.
When I look at this, what's happening right now, we are about 20 days away.
places from a voter registration deadline. That's more important. Okay. So when I talk about
what is important, let me explain to you what is important. So here are the deadlines, y'all.
That's right. Let's look at October 4th. The deadline of registered a vote October 4th is for
these states, Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina,
Carolina, Tennessee, in Texas.
October 5th, the Deadline of Register, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky.
October 6, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico.
October 7th, Missouri, October 9th, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
October 10th, Delaware, October 13th, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon,
West Virginia District of Columbia.
The 14th, Wisconsin, the 19th, Alabama, California, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Pennsylvania, South Dakota.
October 20th, Wyoming.
October 23rd, Idaho, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia.
October 24th, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York.
October 26th, Colorado and Washington.
October 27th is Connecticut.
Same day in New Hampshire.
Voter registration varies from six to 13 days
before election day.
You can contact your local supervisor's office for the deadline.
North Dakota has no voter registration.
You need to have a valid ID showing
in North Dakota residential address
vote. Vermont, you can register through
election day. Now, why
am I walking y'all all through that?
It is because I believe
that what happens is that
we spend a significant
amount of time on bullshit.
We literally
spend a ton
of time posting
on social media, dropping
videos on TikTok and Instagram
weighing in, and doing all
of these other segments
on something that's irrelevant.
And it absolutely is.
Now, let me real clear.
I'm not dismissing the issue of domestic violence.
We focused on that for more than two weeks with a murder-suicide by former lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax, of his wife, Serena.
But what I am saying is, it is amazing the stuff that gets folks talking on social media.
But when it's the real issues of the day, folks are real silence.
So I want you to ask all of your favorite influencers and all of your favorite content creators and all of your favorite journalist and your radio show host and your digital show host, how many of them are actually talking about National Voter Registration Day?
Yeah, I thought so.
Let me bring in right now Carla McHenra, the director of the Thurgood Marshall Institute, talked about this very issue.
Carla, glad to have you here.
I wanted to start this way because, again, what drives me crazy is that we have real deadlines coming up.
We have people who need to double-check their registration in Texas up as a $1.2 million.
If you're not registered to vote, then you can't vote in midterm elections.
It just drives me crazy when we spend an exorbitant amount of time on what I consider to be a bunch of BS.
Definitely. Thank you for having me on your show. What I really want to highlight is the Thurgood Marshall Institute, LDF's Thurgood Marshall Institute, has published a report. It's called Democracy Defended from the 2024 election cycle. And what's important about this report is that it documents all of the challenges that occur during the 2024 election so that we can preemptively
address and prepare voters for the 2026 midterm elections.
And so our report focuses in on Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina,
and Texas, and the goal is specifically to inform black voters.
The report focuses in on two main concerns.
One, the failing election infrastructure and what our black voters on the rise team witnessed
in real time during the 2024 elections.
And then there's a lot of conversations
about voter intimidation and harassment.
To address the first issue, Roland,
I think it's very important that you're emphasizing
that it's national voter registration day
and it's telling people to register early to vote.
Because those barriers create election administrative failures,
excess long lines, our report documents,
in Hines County, Mississippi, there were three-hour-long wait lines.
So not only register to vote, but if you have early voting in your state, really take advantage
of early voting.
Another concern that has come up for black voters during the 2024 election is voter
intimidation and harassment.
And I want to frame this issue in a full context of what LDFs were.
is geared towards. So in our report, we document that in Birmingham, Alabama, there were police
checkpoints, but voters reached out to our national voter voter election protection hotline,
and they were able to have LDF and its partners remove police checkpoints. Alabama, there
were polling sites near a shooting range. People reached out to our number, and shooting was limited,
during voting hours.
And so I want voters, black voters to know specifically
that there are federal and state protection
that legal advocates can use if you experience
intimidation and harassment on election day.
So our hope is that you will read the report,
that you will share the report with your friends,
and that you will, if you encounter any election problems
from registering, day of voting, early voting, that you'll reach out to our hotline.
And the number is 866, our vote.
And you can get help with registration, any administrative problems that you're having.
If you witness any intimidation or experience any intimidation, you can reach out to the hotline.
So the goal is to give you the information, equip you with the information you need,
so that you can access your 15th Amendment right to vote.
and experience no barriers to voting.
Well, the thing that I think is important that people have to understand is that we have seen the targeting of people, and we have seen the removing of folks from voter rolls.
And what I'm trying to emphasize is that we have finite days. Listen, there are finite days.
Again, put the first states up. October 4th is not far away. And so if you're in these,
States, October 4th, come on, guys, put the graph. If you're in these states, I mean, we're not talking a long time. We're talking three weeks. And so what I am saying to our people, let's not spend time and energy on extraneous stuff when we've got real substantive things that are going on. I mean, we literally just had the postal service decision about the Supreme Court. And you got two Supreme Court justices in Alito and Thomas, who are more than willing to let down.
do whatever you want to do. So people have to understand what is at stake and there are a lot of
things that are at stake in this election. Definitely. And what you raise is mass voter challenges,
which we talk about in the report. And what's important to combat mass voter challenges, which are,
you know, the state of Georgia permits people to anyone to challenge a voter's registration. And what we
recommend to counter mass voter challenges is registering early, making sure that you bring the correct
documents when you register. So knowing and challenge your ability to vote because our 2024
democracy defendant report, it shows specifically the tactics that are being used to eliminate
a large swath of black voters from the voter rolls. So you have that going on. So I was
we're now talking about, you know, this effort to remove folks from the voting rolls.
But what I keep telling everybody, do not assume, do not assume you're good. Check right now.
We had one of the voting websites with the CEO on talking about that because also what I don't
want people, Carl, explain the people, and I don't want people having to cast a provisional ballot.
Explain to be people-wide provisional ballots.
They may sound great, but they're not.
Yeah, they are.
So one thing I'll go back to is the election infrastructure,
and we know that in our counties,
that election poll workers are stretched very thin.
And so when you go in and you cast a provisional ballot,
it's not a, it's a ballot that will be considered
through various provisions, but it's not actually a ballot.
And what you want to do is, especially if you have early voting in your state,
you want to make sure that you register on these dates that Roland has put on the screen.
You want to make sure that you take the proper documentation with you in case anyone tries to challenge you.
If you have someone trying to challenge you, there's an option.
I'm going to say our voter protection hotline, and it's a coalition.
of civil rights groups, including the legal defense fund, that are available to answer any questions that you have.
And that number is 866 our vote. So if you are voting early or on the day of the election and someone challenges your vote and you have to cast a provisional ballot,
please call, reach out to our voter hotline. There will be people staffing that line and will be able to help you with any problems or issues that you're having on the day.
and when you vote.
Carl, we're so appreciate it.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks for having me.
Thank you.
You know, Larry, look,
I understand what gets people going on social media.
I get what gets people talking.
But what I often do is
I look at intensity.
I look at how much time is spent.
And then I then ask,
is that really that important?
important. And again, you know, and this is how I'll look at it. For the gossip shows, for the for the light stuff, okay, fine, they can have that. My deal is, but when it comes to news shows, hey man, listen, I will sacrifice those views and clicks every single day because it's just not that damn important to me in terms of Cosmin Crockett giving a proclamation to Chris Brown. And then I had somebody in the chat.
And you're lucky I don't know your name right now because I will definitely call your name out, saying, oh, you can't dismiss domestic violence.
You must be out of your mind when I've had to deal with that issue in my family.
We dealt with that issue for more than two weeks, the murder, suicide.
We traveled down to Shreveport when the brother killed those seven kids and shot two of the mothers.
So I'm like, don't you ever suggest that.
What I'm talking about is what we are spending our time and energy on.
And I am saying in this moment where we have significant issues ahead and we have less than 60 days, we don't have tons of time to be spending on BS.
Yeah, so there are a lot of issues in the black community that we have to continue to address.
You talked about the importance of intimate partner violence.
And many of us have been touched in some way other family and friends by these challenges.
And it's really important to talk about that as you highlight it.
I think the other thing is that, you know, as it relates to this topic of, you know, these voter registration deadlines and the policies that have disproportionately impacted black communities that we're in the fight for our life.
And it's going to continue to be really important as we balance all these issues that we continue to make sure that folks and our family are registered to vote.
They go out to vote and then we bring other family, other individual family and friends to make sure they get out, you know, vote early as you highlight it, to avoid any.
any issues shenanigans. And if they don't vote early, to make sure they go out election day,
because, you know, many of the issues we care about these economic and social and political
issues, if we don't vote in mass, not only in terms of this, you know, current midterm election,
but the elections after that, then we're going to find ourselves in, you know, still doing
with some of the major issues in terms of the hundreds of thousands of Black women of lost
jobs the last several months. All these issues are critical, and we just have to make sure, once again,
that we continue to make sure our passions are focused on the issues that impact our community overall.
And particularly that we say, you register to vote, we bring out other folks to vote,
and then we continue to do that, not just during this election, midterm election,
obviously the presidential election and just for years to come.
Joe?
When you're talking about distractions, I think that there's an argument that social media can be a distraction,
that the internet can be a distraction.
There are distractions all over the place and everywhere,
and you do have to focus on something.
And right now it seems to be the time to focus on making sure
that you and everyone that you know is registered to vote.

can talk to the apathy that we see, some of those with our own family members, who are among the least among us without a whole lot of resources, and yet they still won't vote.
So, you know, whether we're at the barbershop, whether we're at church, wherever we are, I've done some things online related to that over at my YouTube page about voting and about rules surrounding voting.
It's really, really important for us to deal with this and to focus on it.
And so, yeah, it's fun to have an opinion about what Jasmine Crockett may be doing or what this one may be doing or what that may be doing.
But to the extent that it does take away from what it is we're trying to do and what we absolutely have to do pertaining to voting.
You can look around and see voting has consequences.
You can look at Patel talking at this hearing when Cory Booker Lambeck.
based to them. But elections have consequences. Most of those guys barely got on, got into their jobs.
5248, 5149, et cetera, et cetera. Most of them barely got on. So elections do have consequences.
And so we need to make sure that we pay attention to it. Maybe there'll be time to talk about
Chris Brazy and all this other stuff later on. But for now, let's be focused. And I think I like
the point that was being made. Just don't wait to the last minute. Don't wait to the last minute. Don't wait to the

Julian, this is all hands on deck.
And all I'm simply saying is I need
our people pushing out as
much information about the
issues, about the election,
about voter registration. And I'm just
saying, man, if you
spending most of your time on mess,
man, all you're doing is just wasting your damn time.
Yeah, you know, you set it up perfectly
for me because I was getting ready to talk about
the importance of educating yourself
as a voter. Listen, here
in South Dakota, right before our primary, like
We had 30,000 folks purged from voter rolls.
And you're talking about a state that has less than a million people in it overall.
That's a huge impact to the voter rolls.
And so registering to vote is just step one.
You also have to educate yourself in the meanwhile on who you are going to vote for.
And if this is an issue that you are concerned about, an issue that you care about, which we all should be, you know, concerned about domestic violence issues,
we need to understand which candidates are running to make sure that we have to have to have a problem.
have stronger domestic violence laws. And in that case, state legislators make those,
make those laws. And so the legislatures across our country matter. Don't just focus on this issue
with Chris Brown. Focus on the overall concept of not just voting registration,
excuse voter registration, but also voter readiness.
But yeah, look, you make a great point. You're commenting about somebody getting a proclamation,
but you're not focused on the public policy that lawmakers make when it comes to
the very issue of domestic violence.
All right, folks, got to go to a break.

And so a lot of people on real, you know, the black celebrities, the things that they do really impacting our community.
So we're glad to be here.
So when you support us, you support us.
Because we're going to be hitting the road, y'all.
My plan, I would love to be able to raise the necessary funds because I want us on the road in October.
I want us in Michigan, in Ohio, in North Carolina, in Georgia, in Texas, in Florida, in Mississippi, doing our shows during town halls, talking to the voters.
But that takes money.
And I'm just being straight up.
It takes money and it takes resources.
So you want to support our show and our network because when you give, you get to this show and the other shows on the Black Star Network.

Medicare so she called chapter a medicare advisory company and she texts me right after saying
it's a great benefit. It was easy. A real person walked her through the whole thing and now she
understands better what's going on. But it's also not just her. The woman and yonkers rode in saying

724-264-8-181.
That's chapter.
Let me ask you a question.
Why do so many people seem to think they know black men so well?
What they think we want, what they think we need.
Hell, they even tried to tell us why and how we voted.
but never had a conversation with us.
Never asked us how we felt.
What brings us joy?
What makes us angry?
What makes us scared?
How do we live?
That's what this show is about.
No translation, because we don't need anybody speaking for us.
We can speak for ourselves.
This will be a show where we bring brothers on
that you don't see on every other talk show.
Nope.
Brothers that are doing work in local communities with black men for black communities.
We're going to hear each other and try to understand
so perhaps we can move forward together.
No translation.
because we don't need anybody speaking for us.
What we need is each other.

Right here on the Black Star Network.
Check it out.
Rolling, good morning, brother.
Just reaching out to say, happy anniversary to you.
Congratulations on another year.
And I say it all the time,
but it's because I mean it all the time, man.
You know, you're necessary.
And, you know, keep fighting a good fight for all of us.
We need you. We appreciate you, man.
Every anniversary, brother, number of love.
And continue success.
Got you back.
We're going to run through the voter registration slides again,
and so you can have those.
And so some of y'all, I saw your comments.
They were like, hey, slow down, slow down.
We can screen grab them.
We're going to post these on social media as well.
So look on all of our social media.
You're going to see all of the slides on our social media.
You can grab them there as well.
But let's go ahead and start.
Now, again, here are the voter registration day.
lines, October 4th, October 4th, you have Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana,
Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
I'm going to get y'all five seconds.
Let's go October 5th.
Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky.
I'm going to get y'all some more time.
Okay, October 6, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, October, October 7th, Missouri, October 9th, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.
October 10th, Delaware, October 13th, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, West Virginia, District of Columbia.
October 14th, Wisconsin.
Okay, October 19th.
All right, y'all ready for October 19th?
Alabama, California, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Dakota.
Let's go to the next slide.
October 20th, Wyoming, October 23rd, Idaho, Nebraska, Utah, and Virginia.
October 24th, Hawaii, Massachusetts, in New York.
October 26, Colorado, Washington.
October 27th, Connecticut.
All right, so I want you all the time.
Want you all to sit here.
Take your time.
You got all the slides.
Again, we're going to go over these deadlines every single day, folks,
because we have to remind people of these dates and what's going on.
And so for people, it really is important.
We talk about the voter registration deadlines.
And so that's what we're doing.
And so we're going to continue to do so.
And so we want you all to be straight with it.
So like I said, it's a whole lot we're going to be talking about because we're inside of 60 days.
And this is so critically important, y'all, what I'm talking about here, because when we look at this whole election, it's a perfect example.
Virginia.
Okay.
why is Virginia so important?
There are constitutional amendments that are on the ballot.
One of the constitutional amendments is restoring the rights of the formerly incarcerated,
the voting rights are formerly incarcerated, enshrining in the Constitution of women's reproductive rights.
These are constitutional amendments.
And so, you know, we talk about these things all the time, Julian, and when we look at a lot of these places,
constitutional amendments don't get the same amount of attention, but they're just as important.
And so we need people to understand when it comes to voting, all of these things matter.
It's not just the hot races.
Yeah, absolutely.
Listen, I think I've heard you say it before all the way down to the dog catcher.
We have to make sure that we are engaging in the political process.
And that means making sure that we are elected the right people.
We have to make sure that the mayor, the city council, the county commission, if you have one,
all of those individuals control our day-to-day lives.
And so that's what we really have to be paying attention to.
Yes, these federal races get a lot of heat.
They get a lot of notoriety.
You see these talking heads nationwide, but a lot of those folks don't control your day-to-day lives.
And so that goes back to the previous conversation that we had.
The importance of making sure you know, number one, if you are registered to vote, but then number two, what you need to do to register to vote in your state.
And then number three, making sure that you are prepared to go and catch your ballot.
registering to vote is only step one.
I can't stress that enough because I can, listen, I've seen time and time again year after year
when we've seen increases of numbers in folks who have registered to vote,
but then folks don't turn out to the polls.
We have to also make sure that we engage from start to finish.
Absolutely.
And listen, Larry, you're right there in Florida.
I remember four when it was on the ballot that restored to voting rights of 1.4 million
uniformly cost-rated people.
That was a huge deal.
It had a hit a certain third show and it hit it.
And so this is also why I need people to understand that sitting out elections are simply not optional.
If you are in Virginia and you believe that people who have been following on conservation have the right to vote restored,
then you've got to register and then you've got to vote.
People have to stay engaged throughout the year rolling.
Listen, we talk about they only show all the time about points of registering and voting and getting other people.
able to vote, but you're absolutely right, you know, whether it's Virginia or other states.
These constitutional amendments have an enormous impact on everyday lives of individuals.
And listen, people can't complain about, you know, what's happening, you know, various policy
issues.
If you don't, if you're not voting, you have, you have, you're virtually just, you know,
he's screaming into the air.
So you have to constantly stay engaged from day to day, month, month, the week to week.
And not only in terms of Aboriginal voting, but also when it can't.
that reflect the issues you care about.
But these constitutional amendments refer to Florida,
you know, the policymakers in Florida even
tweak the language a bit to make it a little bit more difficult
for some of these constitutional amendments to pass.
Lastly, Roland, we also know that
voteless people is a hopeless people.
So you have to go and register to vote, vote,
get other people out,
candidates are important, and once again,
these constitutional amendments, they meet a lot to various groups,
particularly those who are underserved.
You have to go out and support them and make sure it happens.
sure it happens. This is why Joe, when we're making a point to people, when we say each one, teach one, when we say micro to macro, we encourage folks, like, wait a minute, how many people who are you texting? If you're posting on social media, okay, fine. You want to talk about Jasmine Crockton and Chris Brown and Usher? Why don't you also post those voter registration deadlines? I mean, this is all hands on debt. And, you know, I've seen people, I've seen people, I've seen. I
I saw somebody post, well, you know, I'm seeing all these commercials from Rick Jackson.
I ain't seeing nothing from Keisha Lance Bottoms.
And I'm like, well, you know, she's raised $10 million and he's spending $200 million of his own money.
But then I'm looking at that person going, you're posting it on your own social media.
And so I think part of this issue is also people need to understand is that you can't just ask folk to do all the work themselves.
You've got to do something.
Yeah, we have to be extremely intentional about understanding.
in the moment that we're in.
You know, there seems to be a whole lot of evidence that voting needs to happen.

And then we need to go into another direction on some things.
And we have to make up our mind that we're not going to be the reason we don't
going another direction because we didn't participate and we didn't vote.
Particularly folk that like to complain.
If you want to have a complaint later on, you need to be voting now.
And so we do have to have a whole lot of individual conversations.
One person, one person, help take somebody to the polls, help organize getting folks to the polls,
getting people intentional about getting them to the polls, and making sure they see the 15,000 foot view of why all of their
offices up and down the ballot are absolutely important.
So often the decisions that affect your life the most
are the ones that are made by people closest to you,
people you're gonna see at Panera,
people you're gonna see at the gas station, et cetera.
So there's no reason not to be active and involved in this
and not just voters, but community participants
at city council meetings, at school board meetings, et cetera.
So you're not just a group of people
that's showing up or maybe not showing
up at the polls. Your people that are asking the questions and doing the inquiries that say,
if I don't get the answers I need, I know how I need the vote. The question is not whether
I'm going to vote. The question is whether you person X who's not being responsive to my needs
is going to get voted out. Folks, we're going to do this here. We're going to go to a break.
We come back. We're going to talk about that Senator Ted Cruz's college bill. The Senate has
voted to advance the bill, and a lot of Democrats support it as well.
Derek Johnson goes on ESPN to discuss opposition to the bill.
I got a lot of say about that as well.

Folks, on Saturday, Senator Ted Cruz was on ESPN's College Game Day, which gets huge ratings.
A lot of people criticize why ESPN has not had individuals who are opposing the bill of Senator Ted Cruz in the United States Senate when it comes to college football, well, college sports.
Today, ESPN invited Derek Johnson, presidency of the NWCP on the Sports Center show, to discuss that.
Christine and Kevin back.
We're following a developing story in college sports.
In recent years, college sports has undergone a transformation as schools try to navigate because of name,
image, and likeness payments to athletes, the transfer portal, and questions around eligibility.
Congress is considering bipartisan legislation called the Protect College Sports Act,
which would attempt to regulate transfers and eligibility.
Yeah, most conferences and the NCAA support the bill.
Others like Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy think it takes opportunities away from athletes.
For more, we welcome in the president and CEO of the NAACP, Derek Johnson, live on Sports Center.
Okay, so earlier today, the bill passed a procedural vote and will now proceed to debate in a Senate vote in the next day or two.
So Mr. Johnson, what problems do you see with the proposed bill?
You know, you think about 1979 when Eric Dickerson incident happened.
College sports didn't get it right.
That's 47 years of not getting it right.
And what makes, what makes anyone think they're going to get right this time?
It takes away the rights of athletes.
It creates an opportunity for the sports leads to commit what would not be illegal acts
because they will have exemption from antitrust, legislation.
It's pretty bad and it's unfortunate that players have been able to benefit from their ability on the field and now taken away.
We want to let our audience know we're having a little bit of technical difficulties, but we're going to hang with you here, President Johnson.
Proponents of the bill say it brings stability in order to current system that feels chaotic, especially right now in the last five to six, seven years.
How do you think stability can be achieved without limiting athletes?
rights? Well, who says there's instability? You have coaches that have been doing this for decades now,
and unfortunately, the players did not have the same rights. Now that players have rights, they're saying
it's unstable. It's nothing unstable with students being able to collectively bark, and there's
nothing unstable with students not being exploited on the field. It's nothing unstable with there
being true opportunities for families to benefit from the skill that their children are displaying
on the basketball court or the football field.
I do want to ask you, because the compensation that student athletes receive and the proposed
PCSA is higher than the original house settlement.
So what are your concerns with the student athlete compensation in the PCSA?
Well, the structure.
The question is if the house settlement versus the city bill is somewhat better or worse,
which both of those things, you put that out the door.
In this moment, what's really a stake here is students' ability to collectively bargain
to ensure that the talents and the skills they've brought.
bring onto the field on the basketball court that generate billions of dollars for school programs
that they are also able to benefit from in ways in which they're not restricted, ways in which
them taking, you know, a dinner from someone, they don't cause harm. And at the end of the day,
if this was student-centered, students and players should have been at the table and they were not at
the table. Let's bring up collective bargaining. It's a subject to state law, illegal in certain
states here. How do you recommend this changes and this happens to change?
Be very clear. Federal law supersedes state law. We're talking about federal
legislation, not state law. And students should be able to collectively bargain as a federal
right. If you're going to have federal legislation to govern college sports, then the federal
law would preside. So this is not about state law. Okay, you said on Monday that any
legislation must protect the whole ecosystem. What protections for HBCU?
are missing from the current bill?
HBCUs are
a token in this process.
These schools and the federal government
have neglected HBCUs for
decades. As we stand here
now for land grant institutions,
they have been robbed of billions of dollars
that go to states and the HBCU
land grant institutions have not
received the total amount of
fundings that was due to them. There is
nothing that the federal government
cannot do now to support
HBCUs
regardless of this bill.
So, you know, I'm not fooled by the head fake of putting in the HBCUs at the last minute.
It is a payout over several years.
It is an authorization, but not an appropriation.
That's two different things.
And at the end of the day, we should not be tokenized in our historically black college and universities
in order for the major college university to generate $14 billion in revenue.
annually.
President, what kind of guardrails do you believe need to be established to better protect
athletes in schools?
Well, first of all, athletes should have a voice in the process.
Secondly, they should be able to collectively bargain.
Thirdly, schools should not have undue influence over whether or not a child can participate
in the terms of they should be provided medical support far past their college years.
They should not lose scholarships for their education.
if they get injured.
There are so many things that should be in this field
to protect the players, which is the ecosystem.
Here are the individuals who are on the fields,
generating the revenue, creating a crowd excitement,
yet they are left off.
And the chaotic nature is something that...
It's a great statement, but it's not true.
I watch college football this weekend.
Every stand of every game I watched was full.
People were excited.
The game is as rich as it is ever.
being TV revenue is up. So there's no instability in the game. It's just greed by the conferences.
Okay, just a reminder, the bill passed a procedural vote and will now proceed to debate in a Senate
vote in the next day or two. Derek Johnson, the NAACP president and CEO. Thank you so much
for joining Sports Center. So, Julian, let me make it clear. The ratings for college game day on ESPN
are huge. And you had Nick Sabin consistently railing in support of this bill.
Pat McAfee on that show is support of this bill.
Ted Cruz goes of the show on Saturday.
It's not even close the ratings on who's going to be watching that ESPN SportsCenter,
six-minute segment, and then Ted Cruz being on college game day.
Jamel Hill made this point yesterday.
Disney has actually given money to lobbyists in support of this bill.
So we know where ESPN and Disney stand on this,
And so they're not an impartial entity involved here.
It's listed.
They stand to also benefit economically from this.
But the fact of the matter is, black athletes are the ones that are going to suffer the consequences.
There's certainly a black economic component.
I think that's worth really carefully discussing.
And I remember the CBC, Congressional Black Caucus, also arguing the fact that there are going to be restrictions on black athletes, particularly when it comes to disproportionate.
affecting athletes that play football and also basketball who receive NILs.
And so this is not also going to affect NILs.
It's also going to affect their health care and it will affect their scholarship opportunities.
But there's one other thing I think we should not overlook, and that's also women in sports
and how that's going to impact women's sports.
The Republicans who are strongly opposing this have figured out a way to, again, kind of
weasel their way into between people's legs because they are opposing.
this only because, and when I say only, I mean only because they have an argument that
transgender folks in sports will also benefit. And so for whatever reason, they are incompetent
when it comes to this subject. Listen, and what's crazy is you've got a lot of Democrats who are
supporting this bill, Larry. This bill is about the school. This bill is about the school.
and they're making more money.
And here's a deal.
Larry, how can you sit here and have a federal bill
that puts caps on what players can make,
but there are no caps on what coaches can make?
You know, Roland, I'm a huge sports fan
and watch college football every week,
and this is personal for me
because I have two nephews that playing Division I,
Division I football.
And you're right, these athletes are generating
extraordinary amounts of money,
and as we are well aware of those who are watching
in college football and college sports for a long time,
that as you highlighted,
there's no cap on what, you know,
formerly,
we're talking about former coach,
Nick Saban was made, you know,
tens of millions of dollars over his football career,
and now he's retired.
And some of the other college coaches,
particularly in these, like,
the Power 5 institutions,
are making an enormous amount of money
and have all these incentives based on
if they win, they go to a ball game,
et cetera.
This is basic plantation politics,
and that's all it is,
it's best way to describe it.
It is a way to make sure
that you place caps and restrictions on the amount of money that black athletes who are generating
these generating sports, you know, sports including football and basketball in particular,
which offset the money that's lost in some of the other sports and doesn't give them the flexibility
to get paid what they earn.
And listen, we were talking about NIL for the last couple of years, but remember,
this is all recent piece on, you know, some of these lawsuits.
So there's generations of athletes, particularly those who are black, who didn't have the
opportunity to make the kind of money that they can make. And some of them don't go into professional
sports. So this could be life-changing money for them and their families. And this bill is, it's
terrible. But once again, this is reflective of where we are in our society in terms of the
economic restrictions at the federal and state level we see to prevent black people from building
building wealth, generational wealth.
of these people, Joe, they are about stripping economic opportunities from players, largely blackburned.
And the HBCU provision is totally bullshit, okay?
It's unfunded.
The reality, Joe, is if Congress actually cares about HBCUs, they can include this in anything else.
You don't need this bill to do so.
This, that is only included as an enticement for HPCUs to support it.

Give them black cover, and I'm sorry, I'm not buying and falling for the okie-dunk.
Not throwing I'm a bomb. I'm going to read here. The University of Florida is planning a massive
a record-breaking $1.45 billion renovation of his stadium,
and what they'll include is revamping all 82 current suites,
as well as adding 63 new suites on the east side
and creating additional premium hospitality and gathering areas.
You've got teenagers building stadiums, teenagers,
and they're going to restrict what they can do, what they can make.
and everything that's happened from, you know, the whole Northwestern thing a few years ago
when they were talking about unionizing to NIL, I supported all of it.
Oh, it's unstable or whatever else.
It's not unstable.
Look at college game day.
Look at what's going on every week.
Look at these stands being filled.
What's happening is you got brothers that can come in now and make money, get paid, support their families.
I've seen guys from my area go and do NIL deals for $10,000, $15,000 a month.
month that'll never make pro. But guess what? They can truly get ahead. And I've always thought and
always said that all college football players ought to get a truly free education, whether they
keep playing or not, particularly if they get injured, as well as health care, because among other
things, they ended up being some of the hardest people to ensure. You know how many people
are 345-pound linebackers and offensive linemen that could play at the University of Alabama, but didn't
play pro very long and drop dead by the time they're 50. That happens a lot. And so I'm for these
guys getting everything they can possibly get. And it's, there's an irony here that again,
all the limitations, listen, Nick Saban retired because he couldn't control who he could get
and keep. And so he was winning a little less off keeping it real. So, you know, no wonder he's
standing where he's standing because he wants his competitive edge back.
They want their competitive edge back where now we can put you in a box,
keep you from leaving more than once, but I can jump around.
If I'm Lane Kiffin, Lane Kiffin been at every damn school in the SEC.
Okay?
It's actually totally ridiculous and hopefully somebody wakes up and gets it figured out
because it is going to be very damaging, particularly to black players.
Absolutely.
line y'all this is about hurting players and we should we should be calling every one of your
senators if you live in a red state call in if you live in a blue state call the senators and tell
them vote no on this bill all right let me go to a break i'll be right back rolling mutton on
actually before i do that uh do you have the afl cio drop civilians on social media in oppositions
of this bill let's roll one of those the senate should oppose to protect the college sports
The Protected College Sports Act is something that the NCAA is proposing to gain order within
college athletics because right now it is a mess.
However, we feel as though the right path is through allowing the student athletes to have
a voice at the table and negotiating a collective bargaining agreement.
Everybody wants stability and we have such a clear understanding that rules are needed
within the college athletic space.
However, we feel as though in order to get
there it is not going to be able to be done without the voices of student athletes and
without us truly being at the table that way we can create sustainable rules that
holds all parties accountable including us all right folks and so we'll be going to
be going to be more of those of the next couple of days as the Senate the basis is very
issue let's go to break I'll be right back roll of Martin unfilter on the Black Star
network all right folks let me get person for a second my mom had questions
about her Medicare, so she called Chapter, a Medicare advisory company, and she texts me right
after saying it's a great benefit.
It was easy, a real person walked her through the whole thing, and now she understands better
what's going on.
But also it's not just her.
Woman and Yonkers rode in saying the process was so simple, the enrollment was easy,
and she was so glad she called.
Then there's Maryland, 90 years old, in Florida, living on Social Security.
Her premium climbed every single year north of $400 a month for cover.
she could barely afford anymore. So what does she do? She called Chapter. They found her the same
top-tier coverage for hundreds of dollars less, 90 years old, and finally, somebody in her corner.
I hear stories like that again and again from our community. The Medicare system was not built
to work for you. Too much fine print, too many plans. Yet Chapter's advisors are independent
and honest, the only Medicare advisors that compare every plan nationwide. They're focused on one
thing, what actually works for you. If you're already in the right plan, they'll tell you.
No games, and people who switched to a chapter saved an average of $11,100 a year. All takes
is 20 minutes. You talk to a real person and it's completely free help. So, call Chapter at

Folks, we know back has been doing all they can
to destroy black history,
and Congressman Jonathan Jackson of Chicago,
and Reverend Bishop William Barber.
They have been, of course, defending this,
and so they held a news conference today here in the nation's capital,
talking about the very issue and how we must do all we can
to fight the destruction of black history by these magazelites.
Here is Bishop Barber.
Yet today, we find ourselves in a battle
just to keep our history from being erased.
We find ourselves shouting into the winds of police.
cultural wars, demanding that political figures that specifically President Donald Trump
ends off our history and off our legacy.
And stop interfering with institutions like the National Museum of African American History
and Culture in Washington, D.C., for merely telling the truth.
Yes.
Our history is not a political tool.
It's right.
It is not a campaign or a talk about.
talking point. And it is certainly not up for political negotiation, sanitation, sanitation, or erasure.
To truly understand why we must fight so fiercely for our history today, Dr. Jackson,
we have to look at the sheer scale of where we've come from. Africa's first great civilization
developed thousands of years before the United States of America was even founded. That means that
Africa's first great civilization were thriving more than 5,000 years before America became a nation.
5,000 years of math and science and culture and governance existed in our bloodline before the ink ever dried on the United States Constitution.
And the supreme irony, Dr. Turner, of American history is that this nation's very foundation,
is visually and symbolically anchored in that ancient African history.
America's founders, listen to me around the world,
were deeply gripped by what historians call Egyptomania.
They wanted African things, but they didn't want African people.
They looked to the Nile Valley, the cradle of global civilization,
as the pinnacle of architectural perfection, strength and governance.
And rather than inventing their own, they stole heavily from Africa to project power, majesty, and permanent.
Look at the National Mall right now.
To my right, the most prominent structure standing in Washington, D.C., the Washington Monument.
What is it?
It is explicitly designed as an ancient Egyptian obelisk.
In ancient Kemet, the Obelisq was a sacred monument.
reach in your pocket, pull out a dollar bill.
On the back of that dollar bill, the great seal of the United States.
What does it finish?
Feature.
An unfinished pyramid.
Specifically, the great pyramid of Giza.
The truth is they stole that history,
and we will not allow them to now change history and lie about history.
This is a consistent thing.
Larry and again we talk about voting this is also on the ballot what we have seen over the last
few months we have seen in many of these states these counties in these cities where hard
right conservatives won elections on school boards in 2022 and 2023 they've been wiped out
in red areas and so a lot of people are not happy at all with how far MAGA has gone
But let me also remind people.
This is all in Project 2025.
They made it clear.
This is what they wanted to do as well.
So people need to understand voting impacts who controls school boards.
School boards, higher and fire superintendents.
School boards control curriculum.
People need to understand how voting is tied so much in this country.
Because I just saw yesterday that there have been dozens of.
books banned in the state of Florida. And this is, you know, Florida's was started
of really kind of the center of all these banned book efforts, Mother's for Liberty, etc.
You know, these going out in these school board positions. And it's really important that,
you know, we continue to be resilient and fight against these efforts to erase a black
culture. We can just talk about the recent, you know, controversy in terms of the Confederate
language that was moved from the Confederate Monument, just recent with the last couple days rolling.
And, you know, we just saw the, you know,
elite of the Smithsonian lead
because of pressure from the administration.
So we can't allow people to turn a blind eye
to black history with its authentically U.S. history
and just pretend like if we, you know,
don't, you know, fight against these individuals,
you know, seeking to, you know, get rid of vital moments
in U.S. history that hopefully teaches us important lessons
for the future to eliminate them
pretend they don't exist.
Because in many respects, what it does is when you ignore, you know, our particular history
and the challenges the black communities encounter is that you essentially don't see our humanity.
And this is not going to, this is not an acceptable.
It's certainly not to be expected when a place is supposed to be a democracy.
So this is an important press conference.
We need to continue to push forward that you said all politics is local.
So in many jurisdictions, including Florida, you know, the school board races this coming November.
And so we have to make sure the individuals that are voted in recognize that black history is as an important and key element to the growth and hopefully continue development of this country.
And then we can't allow to be ignored.
Joe.
Yeah, I mean, you know, again, I actually was to be there this week for Congress of Black Caucus, but I got a mediation I got to go to.
But I was going to go and check the box and get over at the museum.
I hadn't even gotten there yet.
And I hope it's there when I get a chance, maybe in a couple of months.
I can do it.
But the attack has been so severe on this.
I appreciate Dr. Barber and Congressman Jackson doing this and reminding us that history
is history.
It's not negotiable.
What happened happened.
It's not political.
It's not really something to be to have a spin put on.
It's actually something that we need to be reminded of and in other communities, in the
Jewish community, in other communities.
We don't forget about history.
We know we're not supposed to forget about it.
about history because if we don't forget about history,
forget about mistakes that have been made,
we are destined to repeat them.
That shouldn't be any different as it pertains
to the black history portion of American history.
We are part of American history.
We are inescapably tied to it.
We're intertwined to it.
We cannot go away or be erased.
And so it's really important that the likes of Dr. Barber
and others continue to remind us all,
that history is not to be forgotten.
It's to be remembered.
It's to be talked about.
It's to be reflected on.
And it's to be built on as well.
And so hopefully we continue to do that.
And people realize there's a lot going on right now.
There can be information overload here.
All the things we've got to do,
we got to make sure we go vote and people don't lose their rights to vote.
We got to remember that, you know, the people, we need to remember our history.
We have to do all of this because things that we took for granted are trying to
to go away. They're trying to be cut away. For all we need to have that hasn't happened,
there are things that have had that have happened that people are trying to roll back. So it's a
lot of work, but again, all hands on deck. We just have to do what we have to do. And we need
to be honest that this is where we are right now. So we have to do it like our lives depended on
and be desperate about it and attention about it because that's exactly where we are.

for the viewers. If you don't know who Bishop Barbara is, you are truly falling behind. He is a
gym in our community, and we really should honor him and give him some props for the work that he
continues to do day after day. And he's absolutely, he's absolutely correct in saying, listen,
black history, not just correct, but he's also very clear in saying that black history is not
separate from American history. And we, as black folks in this country, cannot allow it to be
minimized in our public institutions. This is more than just a fight over an exhibit. And we also
have to remember that, you know, these fights are more than just tourist attractions. We're
Yes, we're talking about museums, but we're also talking about the fight in education.
And we're talking about the fight across our country to make sure that black folks and our voices are not just diminished or silence.
And I think there's a larger question that should be asked here, especially on an institutional basis,
is who is going to interpret what our history is and should be?
Is it going to change every time a president changes?
listen, our history as black folks don't start at slavery,
and I know many of those folks out there might believe it does,
but it doesn't start at slavery.
We have reconstruction.
We have Jim Crow.

That's chapter.
Let me ask you a question.
Why do so many people seem to think they know black men so well?
What they think we want, what they think we need.
Hell, they even tried to tell us why and how we voted.
They never had a conversation with us.
Never asked us how we felt.
What brings us joy?
What makes us angry?
What makes us scared?
How do we live?
That's what this show is about.
No translation, because we don't need anybody speaking for us.
We can speak for ourselves.

I am now known as Minister Erica Savage.
And I am so happy to join in on the celebration of you.
Eight years having rolled out Roland Martin digital platform,
you've really, really created ways for people to come to know
and respect black media in a new and different way.
And for that, I celebrate you.
I also want to say thank you.
Thank you for back in 2018 bringing me on

So for that, I say thank you.

something you may well know,
that the number eight is specifically known as a number for abundance
and for new creation.
All abundance and many blessings to you
on the new paths that you will place.
Be well, Roland.
How many of us realize
we have a vitamin deficiency,
and that's one of the reasons why the vitamin industry
is a more than $200 billion a year industry.
Well, two folks from Atlanta
really wanted to focus on this
when it came to African-Americans.
So they've created pro-black health vitamins.
The doctor and veteran-owned health company
is on a mission to prove the health of African-Americans.
Dr. Carlina Tuggle McDaniel and Darien McDaniel both join us right now.
Glad to have y'all on the show.
Doctor, I want to start with you.
So New York Times had a story the other day that talked about.
It was a big story.
Walser Journal as well saying that, well,
there are a lot of people who take supplements,
who take vitamins, well, do they really really?
do they really matter?
Do they actually work?
Your assessment, when we talk about vitamin deficiency,
especially as we get older, your thoughts?
My thoughts are that with the sad, the standard American diet,
most of us, even with a lot of resources,
are unable to get all the nutrients and minerals from their diet alone.
So most of us need to up supplement in order to make sure
that our body has all the tools.
and pieces that it needs to work at its optimal function.
They definitely don't work if you don't take them,
but based off of what we've seen in terms of the health
in our community, which is closely related to our diet,
we definitely need these supplementation
so that we can ward off a lot of these chronic diseases
that we think are just bound to happen,
but are aggravated often by vitamin deficiencies.
So when you say, when you talk about that,
biome deficiency,
see. What does that actually mean? And when you say that it could lead to other things,
what are the most basic things that the average person is deficient in? Like for instance,
I mean, I need to get out, I need to get out in the sun, of course, the vitamin D, not spend
too much time inside. Well, okay, what does that actually mean? So vitamin D, I would say,
is probably one of the most frequent vitamin deficiencies that we have in the black community.
For a number of reasons, one are melanin, which is like a blessing to have,
doesn't allow us to absorb the sun and use it to make our own vitamin D as much as people who have fairer skin.
A lot of us are lactose intolerant, so we don't have a lot of dairy options to get our vitamin D in calcium.
And your body needs certain levels of nutrients and vitamins to work optimally.
It's like a car.
You want to make sure that the windshield, the wiper fluid is up.
You want to make sure that the oils at a certain level in gasoline.
Our bodies are really just really intricate machines.
So you want all of your levels to be topped off so that everything can work how it's supposed to.
So vitamin D deficiency has been shown to aggravate diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, depression, immunity.
All of those are closely linked to vitamin D.
and COVID really put a spotlight on how important that vitamin,
it's actually a hormone, is.
Whoa, what are up?
Questions from the panel.
I'll start with you, Larry.
Yeah, thank you, Roland.
I'm curious in terms of, you know,
the development of vitamins.
You mentioned, you know, some of the challenges
to African-American community encounter in terms of deficiencies.
And, you know, you had this product that you developed.
So I'm curious about how you made the connection between, you know,
research studies that were plenty of research studies that were plenty of
research studies out there and how you can, you know, in top of that about the challenges the
black community encounter and how you put that this overall product together.
Of course, of course. So the majority of my experience and research is in the patients that I
see and treat all the time. I've worked in mainly black communities. I trained at Howard.
I live in Atlanta. I'm from New York. So I see disease in our community on a regular everyday
basis and I can see that we are young and age but old and disease.
I check blood work on a regular basis on my patients, so I see what is low.
And I also see how my patients improve in terms of their metabolism and their energy
and overall aches and pains when they do correct their deficiencies.
So the fact that we are just living in a time where we need to add additional nutrition
to our nutrition, it's something that is black and white because I see it.
And I see the detriment that our community is having with a lot of these chronic diseases.
So what is something we can do to try to prevent or ward off a lot of these illnesses
that everyone, or not everyone, but a lot of people think are destined or have to be in their future?
Julian, your question.
Yeah, thank you for your work.
You know, this question is for me, but it's also for many people who probably are listening, who are like me, and maybe want to know where they should start.
So I've started my own health journey several times and had to restart it, but if I wanted to take my health more seriously and I've never talked to a doctor, what's the first conversation I should have about those supplements?
I think the first question should be, so if you're going for your physical, especially if you've been in the year, you should get blood work to kind of see where everything is.
But a general multivitamin is basic foundational that almost everybody can benefit from.
Now, you may need to up supplement on vitamin D or iron or calcium, in addition, if your levels are extremely low.
But you start the conversation with, you know, what do I need for my overall health?
What's my blood pressure?
What's my hemoglobin A1C?
What is my weight?
All of these things are tied together.
And you have to know what you're looking at in order to measure it in order to know how to address it.
And I think oftentimes when you're young and you feel good, you don't realize what could be waiting until you feel bad.
And our goal is to not get to the point of feeling bad.
How do we address these issues before they become severe?
Joe.
The question that was just asked, it was great that you mentioned that a multivitamin is a great start.
I looked at your website and I saw a bundle of two or three different bottles.
Talk about the bundles that are available in terms of, you know, not only what they are,
but actually what they address because some of us take eight or nine things.
So we want to be organized and be able to say, okay, maybe I have a sense for what I ought to take,
but what allows me, which bottles and which products from you allow us to check those boxes so that we're okay going forward?
Yeah, the bundle we have now is an immunity.
Yeah, it's an immunity bundle.
It's a really good bundle we have right now for immunity during the holiday season, the winter.
It has your vitamin D, your elderberry, and also a multivitamin.
And then we also have some chronic disease formulas for high blood pressure, diabetes,
and cholesterol support.
So we've got different vitamins from different things.
And we also have everything from gummies to tablets to capsules, so whatever you need.
I think what's really unique about our vitamins too is that they're third party tested.
Only 20% of the vitamins on the market are third party tested.
So what you get in the bottle, on the bottle is in the bottle.
So that's very, very, because people go to the store and they think these vitamins are good,
but we got some of the best vitamins.
And also 50% of our net profits are the nonprofits that focus on eradicating health disparities in the black community.
So it allows you to get healthy yourself, but pro-black health is about giving back as well because it's a movement.
Excellent. Thank you.
Oh, so folks, that's why you should go to shop, blacksidenetwork.com.
Shop blackstlednetwork.com.

Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Have a good much.
All right, we appreciate it.
Thank you very much.
Folks, as I said, I'm here in Rhode Island for the, every year we come here for the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Golf Classic.
He raises money for arts programs here in Rhode Island.
And, of course, we know that many of the arts programs all across the country have been cut.
When you look at the dollars, I mean, there's a time when we were in school.
They provided instruments.
Those things don't happen right now.
And so that's what the funds are raised for.
J.O. joins us right now.
Jeffrey step on in here.
What's it?
Oh, good.
Let's see.
Make sure you get you right to camera.
We're right there.
Glad to have you here.
So, yeah, I got it.
I see the camera hand, I got you.
So I was just saying, listen, I grew up playing cornet,
elementary school, bass baritone horn.
My brother played trumpet, my sister played clarinet,
another sister played the flute, I think,
at one sister who didn't, we called the black sheep of the family.
But that was a moment that was then.
Now, listen, you don't have that
where you can go to school and rent an instrument.
Now you've got to pay for yourself.
Yeah, I knew.
I came up in a public school system, too, and I played trumpet in elementary school,
and they gave us the instruments.
Now they don't do that.
So I have to, at times, go down in L.A.
I speak about it on the school board and tell them that they need to start implementing that.
Because it still in studies that putting music programs and sports programs in schools.
Yep.
Helps them actually.
I'll hold it right there.
It, you know, it helps them as far as just wanting to be there and learning.
You know, so we're trying to do that.
That's why I'm working with the Rhode Island
fill in my focus from here.
We're trying to give music back in the school systems.
And it's necessary.
And again, so that's what I've been telling me, but every year.
And I tell our artists all the time,
people really don't understand a lot of these,
a lot of these events, these tournaments,
how many community folks are being helped
when money is raised at events like this,
and otherwise they wouldn't get support?
That's true.
Yeah, I mean, if I got here, I have a charity course.
I have a charity called Buttonhold, and it's a nine-hold outforce, and they teach all the students,
and they're putting machines in the schools.
They're putting, you know, simulators in the school.
So I went up there the other day, and it was amazing to see these kids swing.
I was, so it's nice to see that you're giving and where your money's going and see how these kids are developing.
So, yeah, I mean, we try to do a lot of things with youth group and programs, boys and girls club, you know,
what I'm going on.
because great things in the school with kids.
So it's important to give them back.
Not that we raised a lot of money last night
because they normally, y'all, I'm here.
We didn't do as well as if you were here.
But we raised, we.
So you're normally, I'm helping Jeffrey with the auction.
Craig Melvin had his tournament.
And he was like, he really wanna be there.
I said, Craig, I'll be there.
I did my show there last night.
And so we gotta make sure the dates are like a little separated.
So.
It's the first time.
Right.
That's the first time you didn't do it.
Yeah, absolutely.
So yeah, we missed you.
People come up to me, they were like, yo man, where were you at?
I was like, y'all, I'm sorry.
It's just one person.
My bad, my bad.
No, but we did pretty good last night.
You know, but you know, you have that thing where you just like, go at people.
You need that aggressive.
When you're an auctioneer, you can't be polite and nice.
You know, you've got to be robot.
Jeff, you're like, get them.
He'd be like, get them.
Don't get that money.
Don't get that money.
Don't get that money.
Don't get that money. Now, you guys always have some great people who are here. And so earlier they ran into Chris Tucker,
Sid the Entertainer, Johnny Gill, Clifton Davis. And what I always love about this goal tournament,
at the dinner, at the game, it's always great entertainment, Smokie Robinson. And so y'all ready to do that thing tonight?
Oh, we're going to turn it out tonight. We're going to jam. We got Master G up in here, too.
Okay.
We're going to have a good time tonight. We always did. It was live.
in last night. We had cook people.
Well, yeah, that's right. You like, y'all might be, like, y'all ain't got to go home.
You got to get the hell out of here. Free food, free alcohol.
Oh, oh, oh, right there, right there, right there.
And see, some of y'all might be thinking that, you might be saying that's how black people are.
Uh-uh, we're in Rhode Island y'all.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They're going to tell them, y'all got to go home, too.
They sprinkled in here in Rhode Island.
That's right.
I tell Jeffrey, every year when he had this golf tournament,
he increases the black population of Rhode Island for at least 48 hours with this golf tournament.
golf tournament.
Yeah, we fly them in.
So let me see the fit.
I want to check, no sheer shirt?
No sheer shirt.
Your kids said put the damn shirts up.
That's right.
My kid said, they told me to stop doing all that grinding on stage.
So.
Listen, you're too old for that.
Oh, you, I mean, what?
What, 87?
Yeah, it's time to him.
And smoke is still on stuff.
Have you told them?
No, I ain't gonna tell her.
You ain't gonna tell them?
Tell him.
That's right.
Yeah, but that's not my place.
He 87, how are you?
I'm 78.
I'm 57.
Y'all closer.
That's you.
I ain't tell him.
You're man with the facts in the session.
You can tell him.
The man named his album, Gazzle.
Exactly.
That's what I'm talking about.
Well, man, it's always...
I say what, if I can feel and look as good as Spoky does at 80s,
Smokey does at 86, you know, I be blessed.
So anything Smokey wants to do is fine with me.
There you go.
That's my idol.
I grew up singing Boo Baby, Baby on the street corners.
And then I got a chance to grow up and work with this man.
I'm living a dream.
Hey, well, listen, it is always great to be here.
I always make, the only time the last time I couldn't make it,
I had COVID, like, hey, Jeff, I ain't gonna make it, dog.
I was like, I gotta stay.
So I couldn't make it.
couldn't make it. But it's always great to be here, always great to support, support you
what you do, man. And I always love it.
Yeah, we love having you, man. And being an alpha, I might to take that black and go jacket.
That's nice stuff. That's midnight blue.
It's midnight blue.
No, that's black. No, that's black.
Look, this is blue pants.
That's midnight blue shoes. Your ass got some black pants on.
The white blue shoes.
Y, Jeffrey, yeah, Jeffrey colorblind.
This is a blue.
That's a black-ass shirt you got on.
Yeah, that's blue.
That's blue.
Uh-huh.
She got a blue shirt on.
That's royal blue.
All right, y'all, what I don't know you colorblind?
I didn't know you colorblind.
No, I ain't colorblind.
It's the special lights I have.
It's the special lights I have.
See, you're all off camera and everything.
You got to step on camera, see?
You're not on camera.
See, now you're on camera.
Yeah, you were all off camera that.
You're pushing me over this way.
I'm going to push you that way.
You were special with my stuff.
I was like, get on, get on.
I'm just, let y'all know.
I told Jeffrey, one year,
one year, one year.
One year he's going to give out official Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Golf Classic sheer shirts.
One year he's going to hand us.
They're going to be in the gift bag.
Wait, you're the first one that's going to give one.
You are the first one that's going to put it on, too.
Oh, they're happening.
They ain't happening.
Okay.
They ain't happening.
I'm going to frame it.
You're going to frame it.
I will frame it.
Because y'all got to know, Jeffrey used to rock them sheer shirts.
all the time. Yeah, but that was back in the drive. Jeffrey, I saw you by five years ago.
These kids don't even have shirts on. That's true. That's true. You know, so, all right,
what can I serve? And you talking about smoking you to stop. All right, no, we got to start.
They serving, they're serving dinner. You said it. We got it on tape. You said, yeah, you go
tell Smoky. I ain't, I ain't telling Smokey a damn thing. I ain't telling Smoky Robinson.
Nothing.
I'm gas on.
Gazz him on.
Gazzles.
Okay, it's time for us to go.
Hey, it's time.
Get me the damn microphone.
Take that mind.
Give me the bike.
Charlene, take him away, please.
He'll lost his mind.
I'm ready to get his gas on.
All right, y'all.
That is it.
Let me thank Julian.
Let me thank Joe.
Let me thank Laird for being on today's show.
I certainly appreciate it.
Thank you so very much, y'all.
We are about to kick this thing off.
So it's about to be a load of
fun. And so, and normally y'all know, we say, I don't know, I might set the camera up and
live stream, but I ain't decided. So, but y'all know I'm going to be recorded. So I'll have it,
I'll have it late as well, so y'all can experience some of the great entertainment that's
always here at the Jeffrey Osborne show me to the golf class again. So that's it, y'all. I'm back
