2026. Coming up on Roland Martin

Louisiana-Callade case isn't completely over just yet.
A federal court will soon decide whether the state's only majority black seat gets erased from the table.
We'll be joined by the founder and president of the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice.
A Texas judge says Tarrant County does not have to restore nearly 100 polling places.
County officials cut out dealing a major setback to voting rights advocates.
19 days from the election, we'll talk to Black poster Chris Toller,
but how folks are dealing with the negative ads and lies being told about candidates,
and the Black Republican Minnesota guilatorial candidate got interrupted by protesters carrying a KKK sign during a GOP dinner.
And a memo released in the Brian Flores Lawsuits Against the NFL for racial discrimination
contain examples of what his legal team labeled as racial stereotypes and talking points teams use
in reference to potential black hit coach hires.
Wait until we show y'all what they actually said.
It is time to bring the funk.
On Rollin Martin on Filcher on the Black Stud Network, let's go.
Looks in 12 days, Louisiana's attorney General Liz Morrell, is expected to ask a three-judge federal panel to end the Kaleigh case.
The panel includes former 5th U.S. Circuit Court Chief Judge Carl E. Stewart of Shreveport, who was nominated by President Bill Clinton, U.S. District Judge David C. Joseph and District Judge Robert Summerhays, both nominated by the twice impeached criminal convicted common man and chief Donald Trump.
They decide whether the fight ends with one majority black district or continues towards a map with no black opportunity districts at all in the state where black residents make up a third of the population.
Ashley Shelton, founding president, the Power Coalition for Equity and Justice joins us now from Louisiana.
Okay, so Ashley, is this, okay, so we already know they've wiped out a seat that that was created, the second seat that was created, the Cleo Field sitting in.
What we're talking about here is, are they wanting to wipe out the seat in New Orleans of Congress and Troy Carter?
Absolutely.
And we are going to court to ask this three judge panel to dismiss this request by the Calais plaintiffs.
You know, it's particularly cruel.
I mean, when you think about the fact that, you know, a third of the state is African-American voters and people.
and that, you know, in a state that has the second largest black population proportionally in the country,
that we have folks that still want to deny us to have any representation, to have anyone that looks like us
actually bringing our voice, our values, you know, to policy conversations in our nation's capital.
And, you know, to be really clear, Calais not only stopped, you know, stopped us from being able to do that
at the congressional level, but this has impact and implications for every level of government.
And so, you know, this is just one more, you know, kind of cut at the apple for the Calais plaintiffs to take the win that they already have and twisted into something that allows them to continue this, you know, this attack on black political power and the power of other minority voters.
In many ways, what they want to do in Louisiana is what Republicans did in Tennessee when they carved up the district of Memphis.
No, absolutely, absolutely. And to, again, you know, you know, pack, you know, pack, and in this particular instance, erase any political power that any black or minority voters have in the state of Louisiana. And, you know, when I think that, you know, when the CalA decision came down, I reminded folks that, you know, we have to have a real conversation in this country about representation. And, you know, key to representation, key to citizenship is representation. And so, you know,
So again, if my voice and my values aren't heard at any level of government, if the policies that are being made don't bring my experience as a black woman from the deep south to the table, then again, do I just get to become a consumer?
Am I just here to purchase goods?
I don't actually get to live in communities that reflect my values to actually see policies move forward that actually address the issues that we know not only face the black community,
but in a state like Louisiana face so many communities.
This is a rural, poor state.
And the reality is that the place
that many African-American voters find themselves in
is the same place that many rural white voters
and voters in our cities as well.
Like it's an interesting, you know,
it's an interesting scenario.
But again, I really take issue with the idea
that they don't want us to have any representation.
And what does it mean if the second, you know,
So if the place in the country that has the second largest black population proportionally
can't have fair representation or anything that even resembles representation at all, then what
does it mean for the rest of the country?
And I remind people often that as goes the South goes the nation and these policies and
these fights are constantly being seated in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, in particular,
but the South more broadly, and then take in wholesale to the rest of this country in no time
at all. We see Mississippi redistricting. We see talks of constitutional conventions and other places
in the South. And I just feel like folks want to shake their head and just say it's the South being
the South again. But these issues and these tactics and strategies that we're seeing have impacts
on all of our communities, no matter where you live. And that's the thing about the South is that
it is escalating. And so it used to be a year before you would see some of the terrible things
that are happening in the South, find a community near you.
And now we're seeing it take a quarter or two.
And so just want folks to just be mindful about this fight around Calais and the Voting Rights Act is not just a southern fight.
This is a fight for black and other minority representation at every level of government in this country.
Well, again, and that's the people have to understand.
And we've been making this clear.
What they want to do is they have placed a bullseye on the backs of black people.
And they are attacking political power, economic power, academia,
education, they're attacking health, you name it. This is what the GOP war on Black America is all
about. Now, absolutely, absolutely. And I think that we have to fight. I think the only answer,
when people take away your voice or they try to take away your voice and your power is to show up.
I mean, show them what they're afraid of. What they're afraid of is, you know, allegedly, right,
is that all this, this growing minority majority is going to show up at the polls on November 3rd.
exactly what we have to do.
And that's exactly what is before us in terms of the opportunity, the challenge, you know,
and the message that has to be sent about the fact that like, yeah, you can neuter my voice
at, you know, you might be able to take away my congressional district, but you can do nothing
about the fact that Louisiana voters for the first time since Reconstruction have the opportunity
to elect a black man to the U.S. Senate.
So again, in all the ways that we can show our power as black voters and other minority voters,
And I remind folks that minority includes women of every race and ethnicity and that, you know,
we're talking about, again, a rising, you know, minority majority that they are trying to
eliminate the ability to have any voice or say in the policymaking, you know, the policymaking
centers of our democracy.
All right then.
Well, Ashley, we certainly appreciate it.
We'll be watching and see what happens in this case.
Yep.
Join us Tuesday. We'll be doing a rally on the steps of the courthouse, and we'll start at 1030 on that Tuesday, October 27th in Shreveport, Louisiana.
And so please feel free to join us. We'll probably actually be gathering much earlier than 1030, but we actually go into court at 1030.
But please join us as you'll be hearing from leaders from across the state of Louisiana and other areas talking about why this is so egregious what these cat lay plaintiffs are trying to.
to do.
All right.
Thanks so much.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Mr.
University.
You're from DC, Michael Brown, former chair, the DNC Finance Committee, also DC, Jelana Jones,
Texas State Representative and Lawyer out of Houston.
Michael, I'll start with you.
These legal fights, again, they are continuing.
And what our people have to understand is, again, they're using every lever possible.
What they want is they want to go to the Fifth Circuit extremely conservative, and then they want this,
go to all the way to the way to the Constitution.
the Supreme Court and for the Supreme Court to give them the authority to wipe out this district.
They want to wipe out black power in Louisiana.
And as we've said, on many occasions, Roland, elections have consequences.
And when we don't, I'm not talking about in three weeks, the vote that's coming up,
I'm talking about the votes that have happened over the last election cycles are the reason
this particular three-judge panel has two Trump appointees.
And because of that, because of maybe folks have gotten out to vote or voted differently, maybe this three-judge panel would have a more open idea of what democracy and fairness is all about.
So I'm not holding a lot of hope that this three-judge panel will be fair.
Clearly, no matter who wins or loses, it'll get appealed.
And at some point, they'll probably get to the Supreme Court, whether they choose to hear it or not.
not. So these are the stakes every time there's an election. And I understand that there's a lot of
reasons why people either choose not to vote or choose to vote for the wrong candidate. But in this
case, you better you better get ready and have a voting plan on November 3rd and or earlier,
depending on your state. But the stakes are extremely high. I can't even imagine New Orleans,
Louisiana, not having a person that looks like a...
in the United States Congress. That is crazy. Well, again, what you're dealing with here,
Jolanda, this is what the Senate also matters, because if Democrats control the Senate,
then they will determine what federal judges get confirmed. And I'm telling you right now,
if the Democrats take control of the Senate, if they choose to elect a new Senate leader,
and I think they should. Chuck Schumer needs to go. But even if it's him,
they should do exactly what Mitch McConnell did.
We ain't confirming nobody when in the last last two years of Obama,
there were 100 federal judicial vacancies because Mitch McConnell would not let them go through.
And that's how Trump was able to appoint all those judges.
Democrats should say payback is a bitch.
I absolutely believe that payback shouldn't be a bitch.
But let me tell you what I think, Roland.
People thought we won when Congressman Green sued about the redistricting.
in Texas that ultimately redistricted him out of Congress.
Remember the Fifth Circuit said that it was unconstitutional
and then it got appealed to the Supreme Court.
And I think they did that on purpose, absolutely,
so that the Supreme Court could come down
and be the law of the land.
So actually, you might think that the two Trump
appointed Fifth Circuit justices
and the Clinton appointed black justice
would vote that it's like fine.
But I think the ultimate goal of them
is to get it to go to the Supreme.
So the Supremes can say, as the law of the land
in the United States, that you do not have to have
black representation in a state,
even if it has the second largest proportional
black population, as was said earlier.
So I fully expect this case to not just stop
at the Fifth Circuit, I fully expected to go to the Supremes,
and I expect the Supremes to hear it and to rule
that you don't have to have representation
that looks like the people that demand representation.
So it's one more way to undo the Voting Rights Act.
Well, they pretty much already said that, Greg,
and so they want them to reaffirm it.
Yeah, I think it's important,
and I embrace this.
I embrace it fully.
I'll tell you why.
These white nationalists are dying at a rate and in a percentage that is greater than the non-whites around them.
This is a matter of time before they are ultimately subsumed in terms of population.
Doesn't speak to our politics.
We got to get our politics together, you know, as we know.
Louisiana, Mississippi, neighboring Mississippi are closer, Georgia, closer, South Carolina, Alabama,
closer than the rest of the country in terms of that shift.
The reason I say I embrace it is because we have to understand that everything we're talking
about now is judge-made law.
It isn't just the judicial appointments.
It's the interpretations.
Every time the federal government has passed legislation, it has been narrowed not by the federal
government, but by the judges, the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which is the birth of when
we think about sections 241 and 242, the anti-lynching kind of stuff.
and all of that.
The 15th Amendment, the Voting Rights Act of 1965,
the 14th Amendment, the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
All of these things have been whittled away with.
We saw what happened with the Civil Rights Act of 1866,
and ultimately as well, the Civil War Amendment,
in particular with the Civil Rights cases in the 1880s.
It has been judges.
When you change the judges, you can recover all of this.
And here's the key, put it back on stronger footing.
The 15th Amendment, as far as I'm concerned,
has not been used to the degree that should have been used.
You look at Gamillion versus Lightfoot, the Tuskegee case that used the 15th Amendment
to argue and hasn't been really pursued as a strategy when it comes to voting rights act.
You look at the 13th Amendment, which I think needs to be reexamined in the long run.
The 13th Amendment, I think, is a very potent weapon that we could use, making the argument
that isn't just about equal protection and due process.
It's about badges and incidents of slavery.
Why am I laying the foundation for what I'm about to say next?
I'm saying that to say that who the judge is matters in ways that we don't really
flesh out as much as we should.
This brother Jamie Davis has a real shot at winning
the United States Senate in Louisiana.
We talked to him a couple of weeks ago
and he was saying, I gotta get,
I gotta talk to Roland, I gotta talk to Roland.
I said, oh, don't worry, I know you gonna talk to Roland.
Well, we, well, I mean, unfortunately,
we've been reaching out to his people
and they haven't been, men get back to us.
Say less, let me, let me, let me see,
can I dig around to the person that we reached out to
because he said he wanted to talk with you.
And so therefore now realize
it's a matter of communication,
because he's the one,
who said it. I sang a chorus with him about you. Absolutely. He said if he can get,
if black people in Louisiana simply vote the percentages they voted the first time Obama
ran for president in 2008. He's singing from the same choir book that you sang. So what
percentage of the white vote would you need? He said, if I got 10 percent, I said, you sure?
He said, man, if I got 10 percent of the white vote in Louisiana, we were winning the landslide
if we said, not even voting our numbers, Roland. So I'm coming down to this. I agree with
you when it comes to taking the same tactic that the late, I mean, that Mitch McConnell
took when it came to the Obama appointees, and let's be crystal clear about this. You're going
to gerrymander yourself into a dummy man. Texas will be a bellwether test of that in the upcoming
several weeks. But also, Sam Alito's coming off that bench, I believe, before Donald Trump
and his presidency. Commerce might come off. That's two slots. We've got to break their back,
and put them in, not only in Louisiana, but neighboring Mississippi with Scott Colum, then get Georgia back again, North Carolina flip.
And you're absolutely right, Roland.
That's got to be the playbook.
Win those elections.
And then there will be no federal judges confirmed until after the president's election of 2008.
And, uh, doing 2000 and, uh, what is it?
2008.
Yeah.
I'm sorry, that 2008.

Thank you.
You helped my relationship with my daughter so much.
It goes a lot further than you would think.

And again, look, I have been yelling and hollering and screaming, trying to get out people to understand.
I'm like, yo, maximize your power.
Again, this is, you know, this is what I always say.
I always say this.
And what I mean is, like, if you show me you can do it, you don't mess.
up. Because see, now
you can't come back
and act like you can't do it.
And
I get it.
I get the historic nature
of Obama running.
But my problem is
once you've shown that power,
it should prove to you,
yo, we can run the table.
Had black folks in Louisiana
shown that power, you would have a
black governor in Louisiana and not Maga Jeff Landry.
You could have a black United States senator in Louisiana.
You can have a black United States senator in Mississippi,
the first African-American elected statewide in Mississippi since the
concert convention of 1890.
You could have a black member of Congress in Chris Jones in
Arkansas. Justin Pearson, if Memphis turns out, just Memphis, they could crush the Republican
running against Justin Pearson. If black folks voted at Obama levels in Florida,
Angie Nixon is the next United States Senator from Florida. I can go down the line.
And this is where I'm trying to get folk to understand that one, I need black elected officials to get some guts.
Let me tell you something.
When Don Scott, our alpha brother, sorry Michael, when he became the Speaker of the House in Virginia,
My Texas A&M, Pyomacron Alpha brother, he let it be known to all of the Democrats.
All your consultants, gone.
New sheriffs in town.
This is how we gonna run this.
Because every damn election cycle, black folks are fighting for crumbs, can y'all funding
black on media, funding black consultants, putting money on the ground, all.
all these campaign.
Teller Rico's campaign just announced they raised $64 million in the third quarter, the
largest of any Senate candidate in United States history.
Where's that money going to go?
Are you truly executing Australia to turn out black people?
Which is why would I say to black people, hey, if they're a black candidate and if it was
a black candidate who ain't doing a jockey.
See, that's the other thing.
It's some black candidates relying on white consultants.
It's some black candidates not hiring black pollsters.
It's a lot of black candidates not putting money into black on media.
That's why we should be funding repairs of the breach.
We should be refunding black voters matter because we know they're going to put the money
where it needs to be put.
I'm telling you, it is, and this is why I literally everything I'm talking about, everything I'm
talking about y'all every single this whole conversation i laid out my new book black forward
where i literally say y'all it is sitting in our hands in some of these places we could be
control ain't no way in hell Houston should not have back to back to back to back black mes like
Atlanta the numbers are there I could go to so many places but what happens is
we might get hype.
Oh, yeah, we're going to look that person, but then, oh, okay.
And then what ends up happening?
You look at Chicago.
Man, Negro spent two years attacking Brandon Johnson.
Brandon Johnson has been killing it in Chicago.
And the white power structure cannot stand it.
The white folks, the white conservatives in Baltimore can't stand Brandon Scott
because he's been killing it.
and they hate the fact that he's proving them wrong.
I'm telling you, I just wish our folk would understand
if black people would understand black power,
not the slogan, not the T-shirt.
See, let me remind y'all what Dr. King said.
Dr. King said this in his book,
where do we go from here,
chaos or community.
Dr. King said
Black power is a slogan.
It's not an agenda.
See, a lot of people got that mixed up.
See, a lot of people thought
that the King was hating on Stokely Carmichael.
He wasn't.
What he was saying was,
it's one thing to chant black power.
It's another thing to execute
black power.
And that's where many of us are.
We're going to go to a break. We're going to come back.
We're going to talk with Chris Toller,

Back at a moment.
They told Angie Nixon to sit down.
She grabbed a bull.
They outspent her 16 to 1.
She won anyway.
They told us to get in line, but we knew them.
They didn't get the picture.
Get the hell out of here.
You don't belong in America.
So we.
We put it in living color.
Don't feel heard, grab a bullhorn.
Want change, grab a ballot.
Vote Angie Nixon by November 3rd.
I'm Chris Jones, and I'm running against the most powerful banker in Congress.
Day one, I'll get busy disappointing some of the most dangerous billionaires in America.
I'll vote to repeal Trump's tariffs and cut costs on goods and groceries.
in the war and bring down gas and diesel prices.
And I'll bring back the health care coverage that Fritch Hill killed
because you shouldn't have to own the bank to live in Arkansas.
I'm Chris Jones, and I approve this message.
His father took the clan to court, bankrupted him,
then ran Jesse Jackson's campaign for president twice.
His mom is in the Alabama State Senate right now.
So when Shemari figures fight for our hospitals,
Our water, our housing, it's not politics. It's in its blood. They redrew the map to draw him and us out. And that's exactly why we can't back down. Shammari figures born, ready. Vote November 3rd.
92. That's how many polling places Tarrant County just cut before this election. Nobody works that hard to silence you unless your voice is a threat. Rent keeps climbing. Care keeps slipping out of reach. None of that is an accident. In Harris County, Dr. Lillard.
Letitia Plummer.
She spent her career caring for patients.
She knows health care is a right, not a reward.
In Fort Bend, Dexter McCoy.
He raised wages for county workers and won paid parental leave.
In Terran, Elisa Simmons.
When people kept dying in the county jail,
she demanded answers and a federal investigation.
She never looked away.
Three leaders.
One fight.
Justice that treats us like human beings.
Paychecks that cover the rent.
Health care that doesn't depend on your zip code.
This is the Texas we're building.
the Texas we're building with black and Latino communities leading the way. Texas organizing project
PAC proudly endorses Dr. Letitia Plummer, Dexter McCoy, and Elisa Simmons. Three judges. One fight.
Our counties, our call. When it comes to your electric bill, the law is supposed to protect you.
That's why I ruled against an unfair utility rate hike that will cost our families more.
You deserve honest math, fair prices, and a court that follows the law,
to put people before profits.
I'm Justice Anita Earls.
On the court, I hold everyone accountable,
no matter how rich or power.
And I won't stop until the law works for everyone.
This is Smokey Robinson,
and you got just one vote.
Folks, the Texas District Court Judge
Janada requests for a temporary order
to rear-state 92 polling sites in Tarrant County.
That's where Fort Worth is.
It is a major setback for black and Hispanic workers.
Tarrant County is still is their last remaining large red county in Texas. Three black women and one
Hispanic woman filed a lawsuit earlier this month claiming the cutting of poll sites disenfranchises
Tarrant County voters. The cuts mean longer commutes and waits to cast a ballot and they could lower
voter turnout on election day, particularly in low-income minority neighborhoods. Judge Patrick Gallagher
did not give a reason for rejecting the request but did not dismiss the lawsuit completely.
That means the case could return to court after the midterm elections. Tarrant County election
Administrator Clint Ludwig drafted the list of polling places to cut, frankly, at the behest
of Territ County Judge Tim O'Hare.
He acknowledged that he did not research how the reductions would affect Black Hispanic
or low-income voters.
Now, we know he's lying, y'all.
He's straight lying.
We knew exactly what they did.
And pull up Elisa Simmons, this is critical.
Lisa Simmons, y'all, who's the Tarrant County Commissioner, they gerrymandered her
district.
So, as opposed to having three Republicans and two Democrats, it's going to be four to one.
she's running for Tarrant County judge against Tim O'Hare.
Pull the top, the Texas, the top ad.
She's in it.
We just showed it.
So Elisa Simmons, so I need y'all in Fort Worth and Tarrant County.
Y'all should be voting in huge numbers for Elisa Simmons.
Come on, y'all.
Show the photo.
Elisa Simmons, the sister who's running for a district attorney there as well.
You need to be voting for her as well.
And so I'm telling y'all, I'm telling y'all what needs to happen in terms of these
races in terms of how we can use our power.
There are a lot of right there.
That's her.
Come on, put it.
A lot of black folks.
A lot of black folks that are in there in Fort Worth are not turning out.
That sister could be the next judge.
And so we got to be sitting here using our power.
And there are no excuses.
There are no excuses whatsoever.
We're 19 days away from Election Day.
And you're seeing all sorts of things happen.
And so what we need to understand is, again, when we maximize our number,
Trust me, we win.
Joining us right now is Christopher Tullo,
director of the Black Voter Project,
co-founder of Black Insights Research,
joining us from Sacramento, California.
Chris, we've got early voting already started.
We've got early voting in Virginia, in Illinois,
starting in other places.
Just give us a sense of the map,
how you see it,
how things are bearing out from Michigan to Michigan
to the east, to the south to the west.
From what I've seen so far in early voting,
all the numbers suggest Democrats are outpacing Republicans
in almost every single.
corner of the map. They're outpacing even Democratic turnout from 2022. And in some places,
when you're looking at black numbers and black turnout in early voting, it's outpacing 2024.
And so the push is there. The campaigns have been working hard in a lot of parts of the country
to get people out to vote. It's absolutely happening. I think with black voters, though, as you said,
the message has to be clear to get out to the polls. It's not a question as to who black voters are
going to vote for. I think the choice has been very clear, especially for the last two years
between Republicans in the GOP. There's no question there, but it's whether or not there's
enough to motivate people to get off the couch and get out. Just kind of the same story we were
saying in 2024, but with even more urgency, considering two more years are at stake under
this administration. Mike Rogers in Michigan is running this ad of so-called black voters
saying they're going to vote against Al-Said. I do Al-Sahid for him.
saying that my brothers cares about West Detroit, Al-Said cares about Palestine,
and they think that's making, hey, what are you seeing when it comes to black voters in Michigan?
Having talked directly to black voters in Detroit over the last two years,
the people in those ads are not reflective of sentiment among most, if not all,
black voters in Detroit and other parts of Michigan.
Black voters understand the states.
They understand the differences between the two parties.
And just as we saw with Mondami's election in New York, and as we're seeing with the statewide election in Texas,
people are saying some black voters are going to go to Paxton after Crockett left the race.
Black voters are coming home to the Democratic Party.
They are not looking towards the GOP in Michigan.
And the ad, if at all, it is actually representing real voters is just representing a small sliver of the black population in Michigan that might even be considering the GOP,
where most voters, and we talk to high propensity, likely voters, we talk to low propensity voters.
The choice is not really between Democrats or Republicans.
For many of them, it's between Democrats and the couch.
Democrats and apathy or disillusioned and not really showing up at all.
And so I saw that ad today.
It was coupled with another ad that was put out where it essentially tried to clip part
of El-Said's speech saying that he was for the West Bank over West Detroit.
And so there's just a lot of disingenuous material out there when it comes to what the GOP is trying to portray Democratic candidates as.
I don't think it's going to have much traction, but just as in 2024, all of these little efforts could deter just enough voters to create a turnout gap, especially with black voters that makes a difference, right?
Black voters often are the decisive vote in places like Michigan where they make up so much of the Democratic coalition.
And so if black turnout is not at rates above 2024, hopefully rates closer to 2020,
then Democrats, even in this swing year where Trump has such low favorability,
still might have a tough time eking out some of these tough victories.
That was there.
When you look at after the Kaleigh decision, we saw in the primary that black voters' participation
was up all across the south.
Do you expect that to also happen in this primary?
We're looking at races, of course, in North Carolina.
United Senate race, the leader Earl's Supreme Court race.
You've also got a critical state Senate race there.
You've got Justin Pearson running in Tennessee.
You've got Angie Nixon running for the United States Senate.
David Jolly for the governorship in Florida.
What are you seeing, especially in the South, Southeast?
I'm saying that there's turnout increasing registration rates have increased.
Black people are coming to the polls.
A lot of the work that our firm did around 2024 suggested that black
people especially understanding the threat of Trump, we're going to vote, right? And that it was a matter
of making Trump the center of the conversation. And for the past two years, that's happened
naturally with him as president. And so turnout has increased and is jumping from 2024. And so we're
seeing that in places where Democrats should win, they're going to win. And I expect to see some
sort of blue wave. There's no question about that. But again, the way, the size of the wave is
is going to in many places come down to whether or not the black turnout is looking similar
to 2024 and four slightly above, closer to 2020 or more historic to the 2008 and 2012 elections
under Obama for Democrats to win some of these tougher state-wide races in Texas in Mississippi
and even in Florida, right? Those are places where Democrats haven't won decades, if not
longer. And so in order to pull out some victories there and flip seats in those states,
you're going to need to see black turnout not just be above where it was the last presidential
election cycle, but significantly above and at times historic. And it's going to take a lot.
And so we've still got a couple weeks until the election and it needs to be full force, right?
Get out the vote. And stop worrying about these ads that say black voters are going to choose
Republicans. Black voters are looking towards a Republican candidate. That's all just kind of out there
in left field. That's not reflective of reality whatsoever. The message should all be about
getting out the vote to protect the black community from further assaults from this
administration because they will be ramped up in years three and four if the Trump administration
is able to continue at the pace that's going out without any political consequences.
Well, this is why these campaigns and they need to understand they've got to invest money
in black communities. Listen, they can't just sit here and think that disaffected Republicans
and as well as Latino votes are going to put them over the top and just assume that
black folks going to turn out. Again, they need massive turnout. They need, as I keep saying,
if you want a blue tsunami, you need a black tsunami, which means you've got to put money on
the ground, you've got to be investing in grassroots groups, you've got to be investing in black
on media. And again, they're doing the same mistake that I've always saying, bullshitting and
waiting to the last two, three weeks of the campaign when they should have been doing this
since January, but definitely since the primaries ended. And so they're going to need a massive black
turnout if they're going to run the table. I'm looking at the United States Senate. And I think
the problem with Schumer and these guys is they're looking at, oh, the Alaska race, the Iowa
race, the main race, and the Ohio race. But if you put the resources in, yo, you could actually
create the opportunities. And Angie Nixon can win. Scott Colomis knocking on the damn door.
And you got this one guy who's now stepped in. He's now sending big money down to Florida.
and Georgia is even for Keisha Lance Bottoms.
It's like all these people have woken up
to realize that damn, we could actually win this.
Yeah, but you've got to make an investment.
And I just saw this here.
Hell, Elon Musk asked, he's dropped 158 million dollars
into a, there's a pack in,
there's a pack that's literally funding a Kempax's campaign.
Elon Musk has already given that pack,
$158 million and they've sent that money from that pack over to over to the
to the Paxton campaign.
That's what's going on here.
It's unfortunate, you know, over the last couple of years talking to a lot of people
in the campaign world and consultants, there was a tendency to want to sit on their
hands rather than get active early in these things because there was just kind of a shock
at Trump's victory and uncertainty around what was going to have.
happen next and how to respond to everything when clearly, as you mentioned out of 2024,
the writing was on the wall, especially when it came to black voters, which was to invest often
and invest early. And we're seeing the same old trends. And so again, I'm excited about seeing
a blue wave and seeing Democrats take back a lot of seats and win a lot of seats. But I'm also
tempered my expectations in some of these tougher states, because as is always the case,
it very well maybe too little too late when you need black turnout to be at or exceed level
of white turnout in some of these states to take this, right?
And a state like Mississippi, you're going to need black turnout to be higher than the
percent of black people in the electorate for black voters to make that shift, to push
that candidate over the one to two percent threshold that they need to win the statewide
election.
And so it's possible.
I'm optimistic, but I'm also seeing, as you said, some of these same patterns that need
to be adjusted and they need to be, needed to be adjusted months ago.
And so we can't keep learning this lesson, especially as we look at.
forward to 2028 as whatever presidential campaign gets selected needs to hit the ground running
and invest as soon as possible getting black voters out.
We've seen the past two years.
Black voters are absolutely activated by the Trump presidency.
There's a clear urgency and identity within black voters that they need to do something
that they need to get out and vote.
The mood is different than it was in 2024, but that's only half the battle, right?
the campaigns also have to get the rest of the black electorate out.
And in many of these cases, as we said, they have to get out people that weren't voting in 2024
or that might have not voted before.
You know, the thing that sits here pisses me off with folks who don't understand this,
I look at North Carolina, but Republicans, because they've moved the power from the governor
to the state auditor, because they had a lock of the legislature, that means they now
control the elections board.
elections board there. The reason today students from North Carolina A&T are marching to the polls
is because they have denied early voting locations on the A&T campus in UNC Greensboro.
So this is why we kept telling folk, if you actually vote, if you all of a sudden use your power,
then we are all between, and Republicans don't control the legislature, no super majority
in North Carolina, no super majority in Florida, no super majority in Texas, no supermajority in Louisiana,
then you can actually change this sort of stuff. But why do they have these supermajority in
the supermajorities because folks aren't voting.
We're at a period in history where we have to really recognize the significance of this moment.
And this takes studying some history as well, understanding that there was a reconstruction period
where black registration rates equal those of whites.
And then that ended rapidly with the return of white supremacy to the South.
And we didn't see black registration voter registration rates come close to white voter registration
rates until the end of the 1900s, almost.
the turn of the 21st century after decades following the Voting Rights Act and the passage of
protections for voters. And then following the 2013 Shelby v. Holder decision, we're moving in the
opposite direction, where voting rates, registration rates are dropping to a point where we might
be reversing the progress that was made in this election, the next election, and probably the next
few elections are going to be decisive moments in modern American politics when it comes to whether
or not we push forward with an expansive view trying to maintain a multicultural, multiracial
democracy, or whether we're reversing course back to a long, long period, however long,
of depressed voting and an exclusive voting system that prioritizes white voters and excludes and oppresses
black voters.
Let's go questions from the panel.
Jolanda, you first.
Yeah, so I've got a question, Mr. Toler.
I've heard from there, there's actually early voting going on in some states already, right,
for the November 26th elections.
And I heard you say that you've, you've, I guess, talked to people or polled people or gotten data
that shows that black people are absolutely motivated to go out and vote against Trump.
But I've heard from people who said that in the early voting states right now,
where they are looking at exit data, that people aren't massive.
going to the polls like we had hoped they would. And if the trends stay where they are right now,
then Democrats are not going to win what we think they're going to win. So where is your data
coming from? And what explanation do you have for that? So the data that I've seen most recently
comes from Target Smart and it has to do with sort of the early vote and registration rates based
on party and race and ethnicity and they break it down by gender. And in most of the states,
that they've looked at when it comes to these elections, the rate of early voting for Democrats
and for Black Democrats is exceeding that of 2022 and in some places exceeding that of 2024.
And so the early data suggests that in most places black people are turning out to vote
at rates that are equal to or higher than that in the past. And so it's a positive outlook.
However, at the same time, as I've talked to voters, and this is through focus groups and interviews
and some polling over the last couple of years,
it's clear that the voters that are turning out to vote
are high propensity, likely voters,
people who are engaged,
who might have not been as excited or enthusiastic to vote in 2024
and are right there now,
understanding there's even more urgency than before.
But there's a group of black voters
who are not likely to vote,
who are low propensity voters,
who are the voters that we needed in 2024
to get out over that hump
and we're going to absolutely need to win,
some of these closer statewide races that are less convinced.
And they're not necessarily out there excited voting early,
but they're the ones that need to get to the polls
over these next couple of weeks to win,
as was mentioned, close statewide elections
in places like Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and even Michigan.
And so there's kind of a dual electorate
within the black community.
It's not just one type of voter.
There's likely and unlikely voters within the black community
that are motivated and mobilized by different things.
And so as we look towards the election,
it's going to seem like we are moving forward in an optimistic way,
but there's still going to be some close races that are going to depend on voters
who are not traditionally part of the electorate coming into the voting sphere
and making that decision to vote when they otherwise wouldn't to tip some of these tougher scales.
And so I think we're absolutely going to see Democrats take a lot of seats back.
I think they're going to win the House.
I think they're going to come close to the Senate,
but to guarantee an overwhelming majority in the House
and to have a very comfortable Senate majority, like a 52 to 48 majority in the Senate,
it's going to take more than just a sort of excitement amongst your usual electorate.
You're going to have to expand the electorate and bring in voters who otherwise wouldn't be there
and who haven't voted in the last few elections.
Michael.
Tyler, first, keep up the good work.
And what kind of things do you say to focus?
that say, oh, well, my vote won't matter.
And since it won't matter, I really don't need to go vote.
Nothing's going to change because clearly we all hear those arguments from people.
So what is your message to that?
So we all know what to say in the last two and a half three weeks.
Yeah, that's a really good point.
When we talked to voters in Detroit specifically amongst the low propensity group,
that was a lot of what people were talking about,
is that they weren't uninterested.
they were actually very interested in politics.
And many people who didn't vote often were very knowledge about politics and knew about politicians and policy.
But they were alienated.
They felt like the system had failed them.
And they felt like their vote didn't matter.
And that even if they voted for an elected representative than they won, they would get little return.
And so two things to that.
One, in this day and age and in this political environment, it's just as important to tell voters that your vote can be protected just as much as prescriptive.
and that even though it might not seem like there's a lot that Democrats can do right now,
simply resisting the harm that can be done to the black community by the Trump administration,
by MAGA Republicans, makes it worthwhile, right?
And that the removal of black jobs from the economy over the last few years,
the elimination of DEI policies, the ramping up of policing and authority presence in black communities
are things that are harmful regardless of whether or not.
not you vote, but if you vote, you can prevent those things. And so using your vote as a
protective measure and to prevent more harm is extremely important. And then secondly,
trying to instill in them the idea of politics as being sort of a long game. And that once you
vote, it shouldn't be the first and last time you vote, but you should continue to vote,
understanding that if you can turn the tide in this election, you can give your representatives
and your community and operate. Canadian women are looking for more, more out of themselves,

What's your sense, particularly as he's traveling the country now,
sounding increasingly unhinged,
at the impact this might have on his quote-unquote base,
those who are not really voting on policy,
but on that kind of vibe, that kind of white nationalism, whatever.
But as he gets increasingly unhinged,
do you imagine that there may be a dampening of turnout
on the white national side, the Republican side,
And also, as it comes to voter turnout, because I think I read something the other day where
many of these hundreds of millions that Musk is dumping into this campaign, these campaigns,
is going to be aimed, targeted at turning out the electorate. What's your sense of the number
of people who are early voting that might be taking away from the number of people who vote on
the day? Or is there any correlation between early voting and voting on the day? And thanks again,
I echo what Michael said.
Thanks for your work.
Always, proud.
Yeah, absolutely.
I appreciate the feedback.
So to answer your first question,
from the research that's been done on my own and others,
looking at Trump and the MAGA movement,
even going back to the Tea Party in the early 2000s,
starting with the first Obama term,
the MAGA faithfuls and sort of the far-right,
true believers, if you will,
are going to kind of ramp up as things.
things become more desperate for the Trump administration.
And one of the things that has driven this movement from the beginning has been an anxiety
about losing sort of their foothold on America.
This is where the American America Great Again kind of slogan comes from, this
understanding that we need to go back to a time when white people, when white identity
was prioritized and was on top.
And so if that feels like that's slipping away here in this election or as we move into
the latter years of Trump, these children.
Trump, true believers, these MAGA Republicans are going to kind of become more desperate and more
anxious and paranoid about what's going to happen to them into the country going forward,
which actually will likely drive them to participate more, whether that's voting or, as we've seen,
right, in 2020, other means of protests and rebellion and even riots and violence.
And so the true believers, those desperately attached to Trump and the identity that he brings to
American politics are going to get even more desperate if things start to fall apart further for him
in his administration. What he will lose, though, is the people on the fringes, the people who had attached
to his movement thinking that they would have some sort of monumental benefit from the movement,
who haven't seen that, who aren't necessarily true believers, but who haven't really found any other
option appealing, right? They are going to sink back into the unlikely sort of conservative
electorate. And that could make a difference. When it comes to the second question, your early
voting, I think that so far what we've seen is that the majority of early voters are older.
And a lot of places, 60, 65 plus make up, you know, a third, if not more, close to half of the
early votes. And so we're not going to see necessarily any type of shift one way or the other
unless, again, some of these campaigns were able to bring out an unusual amount of younger voters,
of unlikely voters, people who aren't typically considered part of the traditional
electorate. And so there's not really going to be, in my prediction, any type of shift
on election day, again, unless we see some dramatic effects from an extreme amount of money
poured into these campaigns or from a campaign specifically targeting younger voters,
which I can't think of any in particular, that's going to make a difference.
I do know that in some states, California being one of them, people are being encouraged to vote
on election day are being encouraged to drop their ballots off if they have mail-in voting,
because there's been a great deal of skepticism around ballots being accurately and confidently
delivered by the Postal Service with this election.
And so that could be the one thing in certain states that have mail in elections that might drive a difference.
If you do see a whole bunch of people dropping off their ballots or going to vote on election
day to avoid putting them in the mail.
But in other states where mail-in-voting isn't necessarily a huge deal or a major factor,
I don't see too much change you.
All right, then, Chris, it is going to be, again, I think it's going to be a nail bider.
We need every single vote possible, and I'm telling you right now,
if black folks maximize the vote, Keisha Lance Bottoms will be the first black woman elected governor in this country.
I think on it that night, again, if black folks in Milwaukee and other places max out,
David Crowley will be elected governor in Wisconsin.
Aaron Ford, we elected governor in Nevada.
And I'm telling you right now, the backs of the GOP could be broken if Sherrod Brown wins in Ohio.
I need Sherryor Brown's campaign that will start paying attention to black people.
Other organizations are trying to shore up black support because he ain't been funding the stuff that's happening there.
Tala Rico campaign needs to be even more aggressive in the final 20 days of the campaign.
They should be really hitting Houston, Dallas, East Texas, Fort Worth, hitting those places hard because they've got to run up.
The rally is the Tala Rico campaign.
he needs to run up huge numbers in Harris County, in Dallas County, and Travis County,
in in a Tarrant County as well to offset likely what's going to happen on the smaller counties.
And again, if he's able to get a big swing, a big turnout of Hispanic voters in South Texas,
massive turnout of black voters in those counties and picking up anywhere from 35 to 38% of white votes,
he beats Ken Paxton.
And so they should be going hard right now.
They should be dispatching black surrogates all over those places.
And not only that, what you also have, you got a black woman running for Harris County Judge.
You got a black man running for Fort Bend County Judge, Tarrant County Judge.
You got black folks running for DA, judicial positions as well.
And so, what are you people to understand, we're talking top to bottom.
You've got constitutional amendments on the ballot in Virginia.
You've got all these things happening.
This is what's going on in this election.
And so it could lead to a blue tsunami, but I keep saying the black folks, I want a black
tsunami, I want to see minimum 70% black participation turning out. I don't want to see those
red counties in Florida dominating turnout in Broward County in Miami-Dade County being down in the
54 to 58 percent. No, I need to see our turnout again 70, 75, 80, 85 percent so we can make
it perfectly clear what our power is.
Yeah, Congress and so many state governments and state legislatures could look completely different
after this election, if black turnout is at, you know, historic rates is much higher than it was in the past.
And if black people get out and get to the polls.
And that can make a tremendous difference in the Trump administration's ability to continue to do harm to this country,
and especially the black people in the next two years and ultimately changed the direction of our democracy.
Absolutely. All right. Chris Toler, I appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
Thank you.
Folks, the ads are coming fast and furious. This is this one,
group, boy, they are slamming the Cindy Hyde Smith in Mississippi. Watch this.
Cindy Hyde Smith told Mississippi she can't understand why everyone's head is exploding.
Oh, we understand. You promised nothing would happen to Medicaid. Then you voted to cut it.
To pay for tax breaks for people making over 600 grand a year. And you voted to cover up the files of
child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. So Senator Hidesmith, Mississippi doesn't mean an explanation.
We need a senator who understands us.
New Deal for All Inc is responsible for the content of this advertising.
Of course, Scott Colombe, two days ago, dropped this ad, which I think is brilliant.
Some beef continuing to go up.
You know, you have so many proteins to choose from.
Pick another protein?
Shit, I'd rather pick another senator instead.
Pick another protein.
She don't lost her damn mind.
I'd rather pick another senator.
Pick another protein.
What the...
Pick another son there instead.
Jelana, you got a kick out of that, huh?
That was the best commercial I've seen in a long time.
That commercial speaks to black people.
And I also think it speaks to other people.
So that's a good commercial.
And a lot of these people that have white consultants need to take lessons.
What do you think about that, Michael?
Great commercial. I don't know what this has had me.
I know Roland you were about to start doing your little rapper's delight.
song like you like to sing. I know you know every single solitary word.
Well, you know, everybody should. That was the big, that was the first big rap hit.
Like, like your ass don't know. You were 45 when the song came out.
Greg?
Hey, listen, me, yeah, me too, brother. It's funny, man.
My young people at Howard don't know those songs. I mean, they kind of vaguely think, much less chic.
But that ad is Chef's Kiss.
Interracial, multiracial,
the cussin is right on.
And, you know,
that's going to be the coalition
that will propel Scott Cohn to the U.S. Senate.
And that's the way you do it.
It's time to take the gloves off.
The way Asoff has been absolutely lacerating that man in Georgia.
Colum is a nice guy, but he's sharp.
And in that case, you ain't got to say it, bro.
Just let them other people say it.
Keep those white women saying,
what the, as they pulling out of the refrigerator there at the 7-Eleven or whatever they are,
let them speak for you. I think that'll put a den in it.
You know, some canters don't have any historical reference.
This is from the debate for the Los Angeles mayor's race.
And this so-called progressive running against incumbent mayor of Karen Bass,
clearly her ass was not paying attention. Listen.
This city used to be the gold standard in terms of non-cooperation with
immigration enforcement years ago under the era of Daryl Gates.
This city used to be the gold standard.
Chief Gates was a very forceful and aggressive police chief.
This city used to be the gold standard.
You gotta be a damn fool, Greg, to be citing Darrell Gates saying the city was the
gold standard for law and order when that racist was absolutely awful and the LAPD was
completely at war with black.
black and brown people.
Unbelievable or believable depending.
Which one of them, as you call them, smart-ass white boys paid you and you pay,
which one of them did you pay to say that stupidity?
Remember Damien Football Williams and the whole thing when Reginald Denny was pulled out of his truck
at the corner of Florence and Normandy.
And when Darrell Gates ran down in there,
Daryl Gates, he of the batter ram as he knocked down people's houses,
alleging that he was involved in a war on crack.
All these stops by the LATB, PD,
when they arrested Darrell Football Williams and Gates got in for the photo op and he said,
you're going down football. Damian Williams said, you're going down, Chief Gates.
Black people ain't forgotten who Darrell Gates is. She must want to lose this election.
But whichever smart-ass white boy she paid, she didn't get her money back for that because
that was 180 degrees opposite of what she should be running on the airways.
Landa, she deserves to get excoriated.
She deserves to get excoriated, but here's what I'm trying to say.
The whole war before, before what happened in Minneapolis to a Yates graduate, right?
What name do we know?
Rodney King.
The whole world knew Rodney King.
The whole world saw Rodney King get beat.
And Darrell Gates was the police chief then.
if my memory serves me correctly.
So she's supposed to be progressive.
Is that what you said?
Yeah.
She seemed more like a Republican talking head,
at least with that little sound bite that you showed me.
But if she is, she is failing the progressive test.
And the truth is it's so easy to go check,
like when people say stuff, like in real time.
And so I'm almost embarrassed for her,
that she is debating someone and she wants someone to take her seriously when she literally has no idea.
And in case you didn't know what name I was talking about before Rodney King, George Floyd.
The world knows George Floyd, the world knew Rodney King.
I think that was probably the first televised beating.
Girl, get your facts straight, because we damn sure don't take you seriously.
Michael.
And this is right.
Absolutely.
as Greg mentioned, it's unfortunate that whoever she hired to do that ad or whoever she's getting advice from.
No, that wasn't an ad. That came out of her mouth in a debate.
Oh, well, that's even worse. That's even worse.
But not understand the history of Los Angeles. It didn't matter who the chief of police were, was at a particular time in history.
LAPD has always been tough on black and brown folks
in the Latino community in Los Angeles.
The fact that she's running for mayor
and didn't know that
and would have that as one of her talking points
on her index card at that debate,
she should be ashamed of herself.
Yeah, well, but again,
maybe in your community
where you view Darrell Gates as being amazing,
maybe that's part of the problem.
All right, y'all.
Got to go to a break.
I'll be right back.

I'm David Jolly, running for governor.
Byron Donald's is a liar.
I don't support a hurricane tax, taxes on your social security,
oil drilling, or socialism.
I'm running for governor to cut your homeowner's insurance by 60%
to ensure you can afford health care and gas and food
to invest in good schools for our kids
and to stop data centers.
You see, Byron Donald's lies for the special interest to control him.
I'll fight for you.
All right, folks, let me get personal for a second.
My mom had questions about her Medicare, so she called Chapter, a Medicare advisory company,
and she texts me right after saying it's a great benefit.
It was easy.
A real person walked her through the whole thing, and now she understands better what's going on.
But also it's not just her.
A woman in Yonkers wrote in saying the process was so simple, the enrollment was easy,
and she was so glad she called.
Then there's Maryland, 90 years old, in Florida,
living on Social Security.
Her premium climbed every single year north of $400 a month
for coverage she could barely afford anymore.
So what does she do?
She called Chapter.
They found her the same top-tier coverage
for hundreds of dollars less,
90 years old, and finally somebody in her corner.
I hear stories like that again and again
from our community.
The Medicare system was not built to work for you.
Too much fine print, too many plans.
Yet Chapter's advisors are independent and honest, the only Medicare advisors that compare every plan nationwide.
They're focused on one thing, what actually works for you.
If you're already in the right plan, they'll tell you.
No games.
People who switched to a chapter saved an average of $1,100 a year.
All takes us 20 minutes.
You talk to a real person and is completely free help.
So call Chapter at 724-264-8-281.
724-264-8-8-1.
That's chapter.
In times like this, we need people willing to speak truth to power.
Justin Pearson stands up to power.
He stands up for us, for our communities, for our future.
Send Justin Pearson to Congress because we need change.
It's about we?
The people who believe that one job should be another.
Make your statement.
Fight for.
change Justin Pearson for Congress vote on or before November 30 every
hours book hey you've got one vote use it all right y'all it's been some quite
interesting week of debates boy so check this out remember the John Ossoff debate
with Mike Collins when they were throwing down remember when Ossoff hit Collins for
this how weak a person do you have to be to be unable to stop
someone under your own roof from disseminating neo-Nazi propaganda while you run for the Senate.
The paper reported it's still going on to this day.
How about this, Mike?
We can shake hands on it.
Will you commit tonight that for the remainder of this campaign, it's just three weeks,
Mike, you won't allow any more neo-Nazi propaganda to be produced from your house.
Can you make...
Oh my God, that was hilarious.
It was, in matter of fact, that were, first of all, they had a couple of debates, and man,
and he just kept hammering him and hammering him and hammering him.
You know what, I'm going to play one more, roll it.
But you stand here and say you're going to be a champion for black Georgians.
When you elevate to positions of leadership in your political organization, people with ties to the Ku Klux Klan.
You want to explain that to folks across Georgia?
Did you accidentally put people with clan ties in your political organization?
30-second rebuttal.
What we need to do for the people of the state of Georgia is make sure that they have money in their pockets,
make sure that they have opportunities.
You do that by getting interest rates down.
You do that by getting this economy back to rolling again.
And how do you do that?
You do that through lower taxes.
You do that through making sure that regulations are off the backs of the American people and American businesses.
Can you say you didn't answer the question?
Again, it was just hammer after hammer after hammer after hammer after hammer.
And not only that, he was hammering him because even when you look at his son, he was like,
you've got a white supremacist in your house.
I'm just going to play one more.
Tonight, a United Georgia will hear the trial of Mike Collins.
Mike Collins has brought dishonor to our state through his personal bigotry and his widely
documented ties to white nationalists.
And he's sold out Georgia in his pathetic childlike devotion to Donald Trump, voting for
the tariffs that have sent groceries soaring, voting for the health care cuts that have
doubled your insurance premiums and voting for the war that sent diesel to its record high.
We'll hear tonight if the congressman can defend those votes, I doubt he'll have the courage
to do so.
And that's the problem, Mike.
It's not just that you've hired half the Third Reich to staff your congressional office and
you have promoted neo-Nazi content online.
It's that you're robbing your constituents to subsidize your donors.
I want to know if you will commit to voting to repeal that data center tax scam that you voted
for.
What's hear an answer?
It rarely mentions your name.
So it was a lot going back and forth.
Now, so on PBS, David Brooks,
from the New York Times conservative,
also on PBS, David Brooks,
he decided to share his thoughts and opinions.
And, you know, I, you know, it really irks my soul.
When I see, let me just show you what happens with these people
who want to sit here and play nice.
Listen to David Brooks.
John Ossoff, my advice to him is if you start calling your political opponent with Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up.
That's just not what we do here in this country.
Okay.
So, really?
Maybe David, you're the problem.
Maybe you're the problem because it's well documented the racist that Mike Collins has on this campaign.
His own son.
Ossoff was hitting him saying,
why can't you control the racism
that's coming out of your own house?
But no, David, David Brooks, no, no, no,
that's not what we're doing this country.
That is exactly the problem.
See, I think the real deal here,
see, they really don't want Democrats
to be as aggressive as Osaf was,
but they got no problem
when Trump says or something he says.
Oh, if you, I'm sorry,
what did David Brooks say again?
Let me just be real clear here.
I'm just, listen to this.
John Ossoff, my advice to him is if you start calling your political opponent with Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up.
That's just not what we do here in this country.
Really? That's not what we do.
Didn't J.D. Vance called Donald Trump Hitler and he's now his vice president?
Y'all see why I'm going?
These people really get on my damn nerves with this stuff here.
It's got to Brian Shapiro.
Brian Shapiro, of course, talk show host.
You've seen him.
He's been on the show before.
Brian, this is really pisses me off because people like David Brooks, what they, he'll call out Osoff, but not the bigotry and the racism of Mike Collins.
Yeah, good to see you're on. Thanks for having me back on. So let's be very clear here.
Asov's opponent is a Nazi, okay? He is a racist. He is an anti-Semite. And there is nothing wrong in this country. And there shouldn't be anything wrong.
for people in this country to call a spade a spade. They don't want us to call out racism.
In fact, many of these people don't even think that systemic racism even exists.
When you literally have clan members that are living in your own home and you can't control
the bigotry and the racism in your own home, then how are you going to control it among
your constituents? I've been saying since day one, Roland Don Ossoff is a star. He's a star in the
Democratic Party and I believe one day he's going to be president of the United States. He's going to win
that race. As you know, there are important races all over the country. Some of them are very
close. Some of them are very tight. That is not a close one. Ossoff's going to win. Collins is a,
if he's not a Nazi, then what he is doing is he is protecting Nazis. He's protecting bigotry
and racism. The Third Reich, as Osop said, in his own campaign. Let's remind people, last year,
go to my iPad, Henry, Paul and Gracia, a Trump appointee was busted in these text messages
saying the MLK Jr. Holiday belongs in hell,
and he admitted to a Nazi streak.
Trump pulled his nomination, but he still works in the administration.
So David Brooks, should we call somebody a Nazi who says they have a Nazi streak?
Yeah, I mean, this is what they do.
And last I checked, if you're talking about Martin Luther King Jr.,
it was actually Donald Trump that took the statue of Martin Luther King Jr.
out of the Oval Office. These are also the people that MAGA Republicans associate themselves with.
It's really sad and it's despicable, but I think it's also extremely important for people like
Ossoff and other Democrats to call these people out for who they are. And you mentioned it yourself.
It was J.D. Vance, our vice president, who once called Donald Trump the next American,
possibly the next American Hitler, and then we're supposed to forget about that. This is who J.D.
Vance says, by the way, I think he was partially right. It wouldn't have been the
few times in J.D. Vance's entire career where he was actually probably telling the truth.
And, you know, I didn't really agree with that language years ago. I certainly agree with it now.
When you talk about the way ICE agents are treating citizens and even non-citizens in this country,
when you look at the no regard for rule of law and the way they're treating brown people in this
country, it's sick and it's sad. And as I say before and I say again, call a spade a spade.
We can start with Donald Trump and we can start with all these other people and all these races throughout the country.
Okay, Aesoff's a good man. He's a smart man. He wakes up in the morning. He goes to work, doesn't take special interest money from anybody.
and then he drives home to his beautiful life and kids.
He has nothing in his resume that is suspicious,
nothing in his resume that you would say,
hmm, that's strange.
He's going to win that race.
And the fact that Colin just got roasted up there
and wouldn't address any of the statements or questions,
if I'm sitting there at a debate states
and somebody accuses me of being a racist or a Nazi or supporting Nazis,
the first thing I would do if it wasn't true,
I would answer the question.
And I would defend myself.
Collins wouldn't answer any of his questions because it's indefensible.
The proof is in the pudding.
And I think Ossoff's going to continue to do a great job.
And I'm proud of the way he performed in these two debates this week.
So check this out here.
Remember, Carl Rowe, he was highly critical of this racist Bo French,
who's running for Texas Railroad Commission.
He's also the head of the Tarrant County Republican Party.
This is what Carl Rowe said about his own party.
I did not become a Republican, the party of Abraham Lincoln,
to associate with bigots.
The Republican nominee for the Texas Railroad Commissioner
has never gotten so much national attention.
Posted a photo of some University of Texas students
celebrating a football win that included some of South Asian descent.
And he called them the problem.
What's happening in and to your party because of bigotry?
I mean, that photograph was unbelievably wonderful,
because it's entirely a crowd of, you know,
burnt orange clad undergraduates at UT going completely insane over the
victory over Ohio State. It was, can you imagine the rest of your life as an
undergraduate saying I was there? Well how the hell did that guy know that
those Asian Americans and Hispanics and blacks were foreigners and what the
hell did that matter? If you're not from a white Christian country he wants you
out of the United States of America and that is a bigot and I did not
become a Republican the party of Abraham Lincoln to associate with bigots
Well, it's great Brian to have that applause, but when you have a white supremacist in the White House,
when you have a man who clearly says that he craps on African nations, he wants white people in this country,
he only wants white refugees, Afrikanos from South Africa.
You've got white nationalist Stephen Miller, and you've got his nuts old wife out there defending him, Katie Miller.

You helped my relationship with my daughter so much.
It goes a lot further than you would think.
Every time you underestimate a Yukon player comes at your own peril.
You know, when you talk about women's sports, it's like prego spaghetti sauce.
It's in there.
You know it commercial?
Like, it's in there.
You name it.
It's in there.

Carl Rove, you know what?
It's a lot more room on the back of that bigot pickup truck than just Bo French.
Yeah, I'm glad Carl Rove spoke a little bit of truth, but so what.
I mean, look at who the leader of your party is.
He'll never out Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is the guy who said when it came to his Atlantic City casinos, he didn't
want black people to count his money.
He wanted views to count his money.
You know, Donald Trump is the guy who had the thousands of discrimination lawsuits in
Manhattan that he had to pay out to all of these people. It was Donald Trump's own father who was
arrested at a Klam rally, Fred Trump. But it's funny how they never seem to call out Donald Trump
for his racism and bigotry. And when I give example after example of Donald Trump's pure
racism, and then we wonder why this country has made up 13% of African Americans, yet less than
1% of them, are represented within the Republican Party. That's one of the main reasons why,
right there. There's a lot of minorities in this country, rightfully so that you don't want to be
Republicans, because look at the people that are representing them. You talk about Stephen Miller.
All these people do, all the, Brandon Gill, I call him Brandon the Klansman, because if you look at
his timeline on social media, all he does is attack brown people. There are plenty of elected
officials and Republicans all day long. All they do is attack two groups of people, for the most part.
Black people, brown people, and transgender.
That's all they do.
They don't want to talk about the economy.
They don't want to talk about this illegal war in Iran.
Did you seem to do inflation numbers that came out yesterday?
They don't want to talk about any of that stuff.
They don't want to talk about this country's going down the toilet under this administration.
No.
Donald Trump wants to talk about the reflecting pool.
He wants to talk about anything and everything, the ballroom.
But he certainly doesn't want to talk about American people.
Many of those people, you know, are minority.
in this country that are struggling, living paycheck to paycheck, while he gives the biggest tax breaks to the top 1%.
You know, Roland, of that 1%, how many of those people are minorities?
I read a study that said less than 2% of those people are getting those tax breaks.
He's not helping minorities. He's not helping everyday Americans.
Again, I'm glad Karl Rowe called somebody out, but it means nothing to me, nearly nothing,
because he doesn't call out the leader of his own party.
These people are nothing but a bunch of cowards who support white supremacists and people who are clearly, at least in my personal opinion, act like Nazis.
And we need to call a spade to spade and call it out.
People can try to silence me.
They can try to silence you.
I'm going to keep calling them out for what they truly are.
Well, since you brought that up, Black Minnesota Republican gubernatorial nominee Lisa Damoud found out the hardware, y'all, what it means to be a black Republican.
She said disrupted her speech at the GOP's annual Lincoln Reagan dinner in Minnesota while she stood the podium.
They've stoned into the event.
Watch.
Now, Demuth is the first black woman to serve as Speaker of the State House and the first black person to be a party nominee for governor of Minnesota.
The protesters are part of the Sunrise Movement and climate defiance.
In a statement, Sunrise Movement spokesman explained why they protested DeMuth, saying the KKK's legacy of racial violence and hierarchy is alive and well within the GOP.
We disrupted this fundraiser because we refused to give a moment's peace to the people bankrolling racial violence.
And keep in mind, Brian, you've got Republicans in that state who really believe that the cop who murdered George Floyd should be released or pardoned.
Yeah, just horrible, despicable people.
And I always tell people, if George Floyd was white and Derek Chauvin was black, would you guys be saying the same thing?
I mean, it's insufferable these people.
And I've debated people that know better.
People like Michael Knowles.
I remember I debated him on Pierce Morgan's show not that long ago,
and he was making the case that George Floyd died of a drug overdose.
And I said, there were two autopsies.
What did those autopsies find?
He died of homicide, meeting somebody else was responsible for his death.
It's like they just can't separate fact from fiction,
and it's just like the same people who spread the lies about Colorado Rico,
that he was in some sort of mental facility, right?
And then, you know, listen, as you know, and we've talked about this Roland on and off the air, you have friends that are that are true black conservatives.
No problem with that.
I mean, I disagree with their political ideology.
I don't think the Republican Party and its history are good for minorities, but they have the right to their opinion.
That's fine.
And then you have people that are just doing it for political convenience, maybe to gain power or to make money.
So it's a difficult line to cross.
But as far as those protesters, I would tend to agree with them.
I think when you look at the Republican Party and where it's at today, the Groyper's and the neo-Nazis, they're not Democrats.
They're not lefties.
I don't want to hear, well, the Democrats started the KKK.
I care about what's happening in this country right now.
And I can tell you right now, and I say this all the time, it's not that every person who voted for Donald Trump is a racist.
I don't believe that.
I have friends who voted for Donald Trump.
But I do believe every racist voted for Donald Trump.
There's a difference there.
And I stand by that.
Absolutely.
Let me go to Greg.
Greg, I'm going to start with you.
And the thing that jumps out at me, Greg, when we are having these conversations here.
And this is why I don't have any respect for the black Republicans who are in Congress.
And I'm talking about Congressman John James, who is running for governor of Michigan.
I found out a year ago he's an alpha.
He embarrasses alpha-fififai alpha.
because when you look at the racial bigotry from this administration, he says nothing.
Congressman Byron Donald's running for governor of Florida, silent.
Senator Tim Scott, silent.
That minstrel dance show leader, Wesley Hunt, Congressman from Texas, silent.
Congressman Burgess Owens of Utah, silent.
My whole deal is it's an easy one to call the party out when you have the bigotry,
but those five have been silent about both French,
silent about so much bigotry in their own party.
And what they don't understand is they would actually gain more credibility with black people
if they actually say something about it.
Instead, they excuse it.
Yeah, that's right, Broan.
Well, we know that through their actions, not through their words,
but through their actions,
that they're not seeking to gain support from black people.
They're seeking access to power.
They want to be close to their lords and masters.
As our friend, Lord Victoria Burke, called Baron Donald's years ago, he's consensual man-servant.
They think that if they can curry favor with these white men and with the money men behind them,
that they will live better lives.
It's probably better they don't speak because there's nothing they can say.
Their actions have proven that their number one objective,
of their number one goal is to enhance their individual lives at whatever cost.
They don't really have moral convictions.
That has been said, and I agree with you, Brian, this primal call, the people like Mike Collins,
he's saying that he's going to change the subject in that debate because his appeal isn't
to logic.
It isn't to facts.
And in this respect, Bozo Trump is actually an avatar.
He's very accurate.
The truth doesn't matter.
Kelly Ann Conway tried to tell us that.
the first administration and we kind of said, okay, we're still arguing with facts with people
who are arguing white supremacy. So they have struck upon their final death rattle strategy,
which is it doesn't matter what you say. I'm simply going to appeal to white nationalism
and in moments when I don't have anything else to say, I'll just stand silent because who I am
projects. Finally to David Brooks, David Brooks has been a white nationalist for a long time.
When Conner Kaepernick kneeled, Brooks wrote that you shouldn't be kneeling.
You should be pushing unity and patriotism.
When he called America a nation of mutts.
He says it's going to become a nation of mutts, talking about the racial commingling in this country.
And he tries to say he's been driven by bloodless data and this kind of thing.
But for him to say that about John Ossov, John Ossov, who was a Jew, whose father was a Jew, who embraced Judaism at his bar at his bar mitfa,
to say that he shouldn't call somebody a Nazi when David Brooks himself was raised by Jews and then
said, well, I'm all for the whole ball of wax. I'm from Judaism and Christianity. Here's news,
Mr. Brooks. That makes you a Christian. Or maybe just makes you another crass opportunist who will
paper over issues of race in the service of continuing to be invited to the Washington dinner
parties. So whether it be Wesley Hunt or David Brooks, when you get a little sniff of power
And they take you in the room and pet you on the head and say, you can stay if you will simply
tow the line, whether it be David Brooks or Wesley Hunt or any of these guys, John James or
Scott Turner, they will do whatever is necessary not to get put out of that room.
Yolanda.
So here's what I say, Rowan.
I'm not even convinced that the black Republicans in Congress appreciate that they are,
the N-word in the Republican Party.
They are absolutely convinced
and they want to be the only
black people in the room.
So they're not there to fight for black people,
which is our problem that we even think
they care about black people.
They just want to be in the room with power.
They want to be the special Negro
because I just don't think they're aware
that they're treated like the,
within their own party.
So this is a situation where they don't want to be Democrats, right?
Because there's a long line, you've got to work your way up to be in a position to get elected to these positions.
And the Republicans are looking for black people, black faces, they don't care where they come from, just to jump to the front of the line.
So you're always going to have those black people that are like Stephen from Django Unchained.
And that's who they are.
So again, I don't know why we expect for them to fight for black people.
people and bring up black issues because they have been so far removed from being where
with where if they grew up poor they've been so far removed from being in the hood they want to
forget about it they want to disassociate from it and i think that they think that that's the way
that republicans are going to embrace them and they're going to keep the little power that
they have so they don't want us cutting up big pieces of the pie to the extent we were even
in a position to do so they want for there to be crumbed
they want to be special and they want to get the crumbs.
And that's enough for them.
So I think that we need to stop expecting them to fight for us.
Oh, no, no, no.
I have zero expectation they're going to fight for us.
I'm just calling out what they do.
I have no expectation.
I mean, they do not care.
Remember when Trump may have forgot whatever racist comment,
and then he called Tim Scott.
And the only reason, and Tim Scott literally,
based upon black Republicans who I talked to,
Tim Scott made it clear, Trump, you don't do this,
I'm gonna come out and blast you.
Then Trump, I forgot what it was.
And Trump apologized.
And then when Tim Scott made a comment,
Trump still tried to pull it back.
I mean, and that's the whole deal.
But I don't, it bothers me, Michael,
when they try to raise the name of Ed Brooke.
And I'm like, none, all five,
all of them together,
don't even have the black courage that Ed Brooke had in the tip of his fingernail.
Agreed.
I mean, Senator Brooke was, he was different.
And he was the role model at the time.
But then for black Republicans, the role model changed to a particular.
And I told, I said, I don't told Michael about that damn,
that damn cricket Wi-Fi he got.
I'm gonna go back, but get that,
when he's back.
I'm gonna put poor Brian here.
I mean, Brian, the thing here,
Senator Edward Brooke,
black Republican from Massachusetts,
first black United States Senator since Reconstruction.
He challenged his own party.
These folk won't do anything.
And what amazes to me is when you look at these people,
Republicans,
they're the ones who defend Confederate statutes.
Pete Heggseth is wiping out black and women,
leaders in the military, you know, the constant tax on DEI.
And not only that, Trump constantly standing up,
and I don't give a damn if Floyd Mayweather,
who has tax troubles and is probably trying to get apart
and they're standing next to you,
when Trump was assinuating that Obama wasn't even,
Obama wasn't even smart enough to get into college,
it is always an attack, you know,
Jasmine Crockett, low IQ, Yonna Pradesh, low IQ,
he attacks black female reporters.
I mean, they are constantly attacking black people,
and what is offensive, these black Republicans, they say nothing.
And what is Donald Trump doing to try to get the black vote with the midterms right around the corner?
You just mentioned one of those names.
Last week, Donald Trump was parading around Mike Tyson, who was a convicted rapist.
Say what you want about Mike Tyson as the boxer.
He's a convicted rapist.
Floyd Mayweather, let's be honest, the guy can't even read.
He can't even read a teleprompter.
You know, you're showing Mike Tyson out there.
This is who Donald Trump is parading around with.
I'm just going to say it.
Rapists hang out with rapists, okay?
Floyd Mayweather went to jail for abusing the mother of his child.
He spent time in prison.
The man can barely read.
So that's why he wasn't reading a teleprompter.
And these are the people that Donald Trump is parading out there to try to get the black vote.
What an embarrassment.
No, because most of the very intelligent people and people that have never abused women or raped women that happen to be blamper,
don't vote or support Donald Trump.
So I'm sorry, Donnie.
I don't think that Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweer are they going to get all these black people all over the country that say, wow, I better vote the Republican when the midterms are right around the corner.
It's not going to work.
They're desperate right now.
Yesterday was an embarrassment with Floyd Mayweather.
As you mentioned, he's got tax trouble.
Maybe he's trying to get a pardon from Donald Trump, who knows.
But what a complete freaking embarrassment.
What an embarrassment that these two men would stand up there in Griff and stand next to Donald Trump?
They have to know.
They have to know how bad Donald Trump and these policies are for people who look like them.
But you know what?
Mike Tyson's rich.
He's got a lot of money.
Floyd Mayweather's rich.
He's got a lot of money.
Donald Trump is good for them.
The biggest tax breaks for the richest people in this country.
But these people don't understand is that they're not good for the average American person.
No, indeed.
Indeed.
Brown Shapiro, we appreciate it.
Man, thanks a lot.
Thanks, Roland. Appreciate it. Good to see you.
Thank you very much. Going to a break, we come back.

If it's patients against price-gouging drug companies, I'm with the patients.
If it's families against corporate entities buying up our neighborhoods and driving up the rent,
I'm with the families every single time.
I'm Angie Nixon.
I approve this message because Florida, I can promise you that I'll never make you guess whose side I'm on.

In Terrant, Elisa Simmons. When people kept dying in the county jail, she demanded answers

She never looked away.

You have a vote. Use it.
Please.
All right, folks.
Y'all see this portrait that's over my right shoulder.
I got this when I was in Sacramento,
and Colin Kaepernick is in that particular portrait.
You see it right there.
Remember, he sued the NFL.
Then he settled for $8 million.
Well, we don't know what he settled for.
The number being thrown around since $8 million.
And a lot of people really wanted Colin Kaepernick
to keep going with this lawsuit to expose the NFL.
NFL. Well, you know who's doing that? Brian Flores. Remember, he was the head coach for the Miami
Dolphins. He got fired. Then he was being interviewed by a number of other teams, Houston, Texans,
and others. And he basically said, you know what, these interviews with these black coaches,
absolute sham. It exposes their racism. He later got hired as an assistant coach with the
Pittsburgh Steelers. Then he became a defense accordion for the Miami Vikings. And he's
had one of the top defenses for the last several years. Well, check this out, y'all. On Tuesday,
court unsealed a memo from the recruiting firm Corn Ferry about Brian Flores.
They were hired by the Las Vegas Raiders.
The document backs up Flores' racial discrimination claims against the NFL during their head coaching hiring searches.
The memo outlines Flores' strengths and weaknesses as a potential head coaching candidate for the Raiders.
When speaking of Flores' strengths, the memo says Flores is, quote, polished and a good presenter,
despite growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, same as Mike Tyson.
He was able to build a strong friendship with a billionaire son,
which gave him opportunities to socialize and learn how to build relationships
with white collar and upper class individuals.
So they basically say, Brian Flores was essentially taught to be cultured by the
son of a white man.
This is what they said about his weaknesses.
Quote, he can fool you with his polish upwards.
Has little people skills, lack self-awareness,
and can sometimes exhibit erratic behavior.
Floyd Ritz, along with other black coaches,
filed a lawsuit in 2022 against the NFL and six other teams.
Shortly after, Dolphins.
This is, first of all, again, y'all, here's the deal.
You talk to any of these brothers.
They'll tell you about these sham interviews, Jolanda.
They'll tell you how they're a joke.
But here's what I love about this here.
The NFL is in a quandary.
Brian Flores literally is working in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings.
He's a defensive coordinator, and he's damn good.
His defenses have been smoking hot.
So it's a little hard to say, fire him.
Because he's at me at the top of the heap.
But what I love about this here is he's not settling.
He wants this to go to trial.
He, if Brian Flores wanted to settle, he could have settled for a lot of money.
And I guarantee you, the NFL is throwing a lot of money at Brian Flores to get this thing to go away.
He wants the discovery all to be released, Yolanda.
And so would I, because here's the thing I will tell you as a lawyer, they can't get him on objective stuff because he knows what he's doing in football.
So they go get this search firm that clearly is white centered to use subjective things like basically from the hood.
He ain't supposed to be there.
one of those, and I hate watching those movies rolling where some white person saves some poor black person.
Oh, yeah, the whole white savior complex, yep.
I hate those.
But basically, that's what this white search firm knocked him on, right?
And that because he's so polished from the white people that taught him, because, oh, my God, this is white man's burden.
And black folks need us in order to be successful.
He can fool you.
So even if you like him and he's polished and he seems like the right fit,
he's really not because he's dishonest,
which is the same tropes that they always use for us.
And I am so thankful that Flores is not getting bought and sold
that he wants for people to see because just like when we were talking about the Republicans
deflecting about stuff that's not to the...

Merits of the question or the issues, it's the same thing they do in corporate America,
which speaks to you, Roland, talking about how there's an attack on Black America by Trump
and everybody who thinks like him.
So even in sports, they're trying to take away or they are to.
taking away, they're not trying, they're succeeding,
the objectivity
so that they can deflect and use
their talking points. And I think
that all they need on that jury
is one black person
who has a traditional black

because black Republicans will sign
off on that bullshit.
But all they need is one black person on the jury
and they're going to have some problems.
So this is the memo.

He was able to build a strong fringe, as we read before, he was able to build a strong

he may have changed since, but he was the worst hiring decision we've ever made.
Another president of a club refused to talk about him.
Ongoing litigation may be a distraction.
Now here's why I find that to be all interesting, Greg.
Let's be real clear.
Brian Flores came out of the Bill Belichick system, Greg.
That's who Bill Belichick is.
If you actually look at all the people who follow Bill Belichick,
they're all the same.
And so here's the reality.
And anybody who's actually been a boss before you understand it.
You know what?
When you first become a boss, you may fail
because you have a certain way of conducting yourself.
You learn from that.
Their whole deal is we ain't giving you a second chance.
I'm sorry, who was the guy who was coaching in Cleveland, the head coach who got fired?
Oh, I'm sorry, isn't he now the head coach in Atlanta?
We can go down the line of numerous coaches, white coaches, who have been rehired at other places,
probably reads the same.
The fact of the matter is the NFL is absolutely racist when it comes to hiring head coaches.
And we know this.
And I hope, Greg, I hope it goes to the jury.
I want Brian Flores to say, I hope Brian Flores exposes the entire racist NFL system so people know exactly who these folks are.
Yeah, I hope so too. Unfortunately, in the law, he takes this to trial. He gets his discovery. He deposes all these folks. And at the end of the day, they may say, well, it was personal animus. It wasn't racial animus. It was aimed at you. There's no pattern here. And even if you have the cumulative weight of evidence, you know, this is the problem. They took about McDonald-Douglas standards in Washington v.
Davis and disparate impact. They could say, look at all these black coaches who have not been
hired. And then the judge may say, oh, the jury wouldn't say this on appeal. The court may say,
yes, yes, that is a pattern. And yes, this is disturbing. But in your specific case, we think it was
because they looked at this report and they said, well, you know, we don't like your attitude.
We don't like your temperament. And we think that that's a matter of you as an individual.
But we'll see. But as you say, the real battle will be whether he was to win or to lose,
the real battle would be to expose this. But then the question then falls squarely on us,
doesn't it? The question falls on us to say, when are we going to turn this off?
You know, I went to Tennessee State. I'm very proud of that. For years, the great Joe Gillum,
who was the offensive coordinator under Big John Merritt and then became the head coach for years.
Don Shula, for years from the Miami Dolphins, for years. The coached of the Pittsburgh Steelers
and the Dallas Cowboys, they would call him or even come in the summertime to watch the practices.
And this happened with Eddie Robinson and Gremlin.
It happened.
They and others, they would come and pick their brains for offensive schemes and things like that.
But they never hired them on pro staffs.
Now, when you look at the national football, it's the reason why, you know, I also went to Ohio State.
You got two degrees from Ohio State and one from Temple.
I would sometimes watch Temple basketball games because the great John Cheney, the coach at Temple,
brother who came out of Cheney University before that, Rashid Wallace's school, Simon Gratz there in
North Philly, he required his players come to class, and he would come check on the players,
so I would come and watch him. But I did not go to one athletic event at the Ohio State University.
It's a historically plantation college and university. For those of you who got children,
and you scream yourself hoarse on Friday nights for Pop Warner Football or wherever you're going,
instead of screaming yourself horse at science fairs and spellings.
I'm talking to you, American Negroes. Slavery is over. Why do you still love and worship your master?
Please understand that these people are never going to love you and they're never going to respect you.
I will be damned if I watch a second of historically plantation colleges and universities, Ohio State,
Auburn, any of them. You name them, Alabama. And when it comes to the National Football League,
the only reason I know about any of this is because I read.
I will not watch one second of one minute, of one hour of anything in the National Football League.
Football league, they've shown you what they are. Football is a metaphor in this country for
white supremacy. When it comes to the report that you just looked at, what did they say, Roland,
in that same report, what they said was very simple. They said that this man is very talented,
he's very skilled, he knows what, and because of his temperament, he would do better when being
guided by somebody who's a head coach who can take advantage of those skills. Well, guess what?
Where have we heard that before? You want a Negro recruiter
to come get these boys to come play for you. Yeah, you want that on your college staff.
You want a Negro on your staff that the players can talk to. Why? Because you got to manage
all these black men in the locker room, but you can't be the boss. You need someone to help you
in these moments when the players are about to rebel, so you've seen the Negro on your staff
and to talk to them. But they can't be the leader. Let's be crystal clear about what we're
talking about. This man was the head coach to Miami Dolphins. They say, oh, well, he only only,
was like one game over 500. Yeah, but he beat Bill Belichick's ass four times, didn't he?
But this is never going to change until we demonstrate that we are willing to walk away from a
plantation where we are all the labor, where we are all the genius to put the schemes together
and everything else, but we can't be the head coach because the National Football League is a
white man's football league, damn it, and whether it be the owners, the fans, or anybody else,
you shut your ass up, you go out there and catch the ball, you run up and down the field,
damn it, and you can have a job underneath me. But when it comes to Brian Flores, a son of Honduran
immigrants who grew up in Brooklyn, who has been widely praised, including by Ian O'Connor
in today's New York Times, when he said, this is the pattern that goes on and on and on, a man
who checked the Rooney Rule box until they get rid of that. When it comes to Brian Flores,
he knows damn well what the story is. In a white man's league, you take those bastards to court,
expose it to everybody else and win or lose, then it's up to us to decide what we're going to do.
As far as I'm concerned, we're still so far up white supremacies behind that we are not going
to turn our televisions off and that is the barometer by which we will ultimately be judged
by history. Michael, I hope Brian Flores exposes everything.
I agree. And going back to earlier and part of our conversation about Black Republicans,
and I hate to draw a parallel.
But I remember when Brian, like I know, Coach Flores started this discussion about lawsuits
and exposing what was going on and how the Rooney Rule made no sense and wasn't real,
a lot of other black coaches did not stand behind him. Some did, and they should get credit,
but a lot did not because they wanted to make sure that they were good.
I don't want to get involved in that because that could tarnish my opportunity of moving up.
Rather than we all seen that famous picture with Ali, Kareem and Jim Brown and Bobby Mitchell and others that all came together.
All the African American athletes came together to talk about civil rights.
And they came together and stayed as a group to talk about that same message.
Yeah, but, but, but, but, but, but, Michael, hold up, I understand that.
But remember, when Kurt Flood sued, a lot of black major league baseball stars didn't start.
with Kurt Flood.
I mean, when you start a lot, listen, when John Mackey, when he sued the NFL, a lot of black
players didn't stand with him.
Listen, here's what I think we have to sometimes recognize that there are black people
who are trying to protect their status too.
And the reality is, if you look at many of these cases, history records that when the moment
was there for someone to stand up, they all.
often were alone.
Absolutely.
I mean, that's, uh, and it's, it transcends itself in so many different, um,
industries, uh, in American life, whether business, athletics, politics, medicine, uh,
you name it.
You're exactly right.
So, uh, again, I, I just, I, ooh, I'm, I'm hoping this thing go all the way.
Uh, I, uh, I, I really am.
I, I mean, I'm talking about, I want, I want them to pull out every receipt.
I can't wait for cross-examination.
I can't wait for them subpoena black I can't wait for them to subpoena the commissioner and subpoena all 32 owners bring y'all asses up in here and raise your right hand and let's see what they say quick break we're going to come back talk about the case with the black man in Ohio who killed the cop after his son had been killed by police you're watching roller mart unfilcher on a black star network
For a second, my mom had questions about her Medicare, so she called Chapter, a Medicare
advisory company, and she texted me right after saying it's a great benefit.
It was easy, a real person walked her through the whole thing, and now she understands better
what's going on.
But also it's not just her.
A woman in Yonkers rode in saying the process was so simple, the enrollment was easy,
and she was so glad she called.
Then there's Maryland, 90 years old, in Florida, living on Social Security.
Her premium climbed every single year north of 400.
$100 a month for coverage she could barely afford anymore.
So what does she do?
She called Chapter.
They found her the same top-tier coverage for hundreds of dollars less, 90 years old,
and finally, somebody in her corner.
I hear stories like that again and again from our community.
The Medicare system was not built to work for you.
Too much fine print.
Too many plans.
Yet Chapters' advisors are independent and honest.
The only Medicare advisors that compare every plan nationwide.
They're focused on one thing, what actually works for you.
If you're already in the right plan, they'll tell you.
No games, and people who switched to a chapter saved an average of $11,100 a year.
All takes us 20 minutes.
You talk to a real person and it's completely free help.
So, call chapter at 724-264-8-281.
724-264-8-1.
That's chapter.

The judge will allow juror to decide a lesser charge in the case of a black father who ran down a police officer.
Judge Jody Lubras ruled in favor of Rodney Hinton Jr.'s lawyer who filed a motion seeking to add a charge of reckless homicide.
Hinton was facing charges of aggravated murder and volonious assault.
He's accused of intentionally hitting and killing sheriff deputy Larry Henderson with his car last year after viewing the body cam video of his son's death.
Hinton's son, Ryan, was killed by a police officer just days before the crash.
Henderson was not responsible for Ryan's death.
Hinton's lawyers hoped the jury will return a not guilty verdict on the grounds of insanity,
but they will take the lesser included offense of reckless homicide.
Jurors heard testimony from two different psychologists who say that Hinton experienced a severe
psychological break after police killed his son.
A jury would have to decide whether or not Hinton is guilty of murder or trying to commit
suicide. This really is, is a very difficult
in a motion of case, Jolanda. But his lawyers, again,
are hoping this insanity defense will
work. I hope it, I hope it works. I also hope that it,
because they allow the charge for there to be jury
nullification, for those of you who don't know what jury
nullification is, is you get somebody on there and they'll make a decision
that may not necessarily follow.
the law, but it's the right result.
And the truth is, if somebody killed my kid
and the police officer who killed my kid
unjustifiably did something, I might do something like that.
I mean, parents understand that.
And we also know as black people in this country,
that we never almost, well, we almost never get
any kind of justice, or at least the justice
that white folks would get when the police murder us.
So I understand, I'm glad that there was a win
for the father, but we all understand
But we all understand it.
And I think the judge made the right ruling.
And I actually hope he gets off because based on what I understand,
I don't think in that, in that jurisdiction that he was going,
that his son was going to get the kind of justice that his son deserves by the police officer.
He took it into his own hands.
And I know people will say, oh, nobody believes in vigilante justice.
But you don't know what you do in the heat of passion when somebody kills your kid.
Indeed. All right, folks, the federal judge has dismissed the mortgage fraud charge against former Baltimore City State's Attorney Maryland Mosby. District Judge Lydia Grisbee granted prosecutors' request to dismiss the charge as they decided not to retry Mosby. The charge involved a $5,000 gift letter used in connection with Mosby's purchase of a condominium in Longboat, Key, Florida. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the fraud conviction last year, finding the jury received flawed instructions about where the alleged crime could be.
prosecuted. Her perjury conviction remains in a place after the Supreme Court declined to hear
her appeal earlier this month. The charges stem from withdrawals totally $40,000 from her city
retirement account during the COVID-19 pandemic. A jury found she falsely claimed financial hardship
to avoid an early withdrawal penalty. Now, Mosby did release a statement here. Give me one second
to pull that up, please. I thought we had it, but give me one second.
Let's see here.
Let's see here.
Let's see here.
All right then.
Here's her statement.
I thank God that this painful, give me one second.
I thank God this painful chapter of my life is finally over.
The consent motion to dismiss my mortgage fraud conviction has been granted and the conviction
rightfully reversed and vacated just as I was acquitted of the other baseless mortgage fraud charters.
This playbook didn't work.
This playbook didn't work.
Despite the attempts to discredit me and dismantle my career, I'm still standing.
I'm deeply grateful to my turnage for their unwavering advocacy, dedication, and commitment
to fighting for justice on my behalf.
While I celebrate this victory, another fight remains protecting and retaining my law license.
I will continue that fight with faith, resilience, and the unwavering belief that truth
and justice will prevail.
God has the final say.
Greg.
Yeah.
I hope she gets her license.
back, it's going to be a struggle. It's going to be difficult. It's not like she's a white man,
or she's not like she's Donald Trump Jr. or Eric or, you know, slender man, Jared Kushner,
or any of these folks. She's a black woman, which means she's perpetually in the crosshairs.
She's still got those two federal perjury convictions. What was it, about a week and a half
of the Supreme Court. Yep.
of the United States, that criminal enterprise refused to hear that.
But I certainly hope if she can get that license back and turn that corner, then she can rebuild.
And of course, she's young.
She's clearly very talented politically.
I hope that Maryland most be a setup for a comeback at this point because this is just truly, truly too much, too damn much in this damn criminal-ass country to go after her for this.
No, absolutely.
And so, again, we'll be paying attention.
to all of that.
All right, folks, before we go,
I've got a couple of other stories
that I do want to provide for you, one.
And that is Tennessee State Representative, Justin Pearson
is suing the Memphis City Council alleging officials violated
the First Amendment rights by banning him from upcoming meetings.
The lawsuit steals from an October 6th council meeting
where officials delayed a vote on a proposed moratorium on data center development.
The decision to spark protests,
shouting matches and a fight in the council lobby forcing the meeting to end early.
Now, Peterson and five other plaintiffs are asking a federal judge to lift the two meeting
ban and block enforcement of the council's speech restriction policy, which they argue
violates their constitutional right to free speech.
The group wants to attend the council's October 20th meeting where the council could
revisit the proposed data cinema moratorium.
Sounds like that they don't want the citizens, Jolanda, expressing their sentiments.
Oh, you know what? This is like giving me flashbacks rolling when they, when city council is making, uh, passing ordinances or laws or whatever to stifle people's, uh, First Amendment right to speak.
You mean you mean the city council there in Houston?
Well, when I was on the school board, they threatened to make a whole, uh, ordinance to stop me from being able to speak and to stop the people that came up to speak during public session for saying stuff that they,
didn't find appropriate so they wanted to like regulate content uh the content of what you say you can't
do that right so i'm glad that justin is suing them because it does violate the first amendment and oh
really quick note uh jamie davis the democratic nominee yeah louisiana senate you said hadn't
his people and got back with you i texted him and uh so he texted me back i'm gonna put y'all in
contact with each other where y'all can have to direct numbers i just
Just give it.
So that he can do that.
But let me be clear.
Hold on.
Just give it to Carol.
Give it to Carol.
So she'd been trying to hit them.
Go ahead.
But if if the courts follow the law, then the injunction against them speaking for those two council members of council meetings should be lifted.
And they should get to speak and say what it is they want to say.
But with all these Trump judges and all these appeal courts that have.
all these Trump appointed nominees and all these Republicans who are standing in the line to
kiss Trump's ass. I don't know if the right result will happen, but if they follow the law
and start decisis means anything, which for those of you who aren't lawyers, start decisis for the
most part means the law is established. This is what it is and you should follow it. That is not
recognized under this era of Trump. But if they follow the law, then Justin should be able to say
say whatever the hell they want to say. But they also want not for Justin to be able to go there
and speak truth to power. They want him to have one less forum that people pay attention to.
So they're trying to shut him up by shutting him out of the city council meetings. Great.
Yeah, I agree. I agree. But I mean, you said all they needed to be said, Rowland,
earlier in the show. If Memphis votes its numbers, they ain't going to be able to get rid of Justin Pearson.
You know, it is, I mean, I just end with this.

who ain't been getting jack
last thing we were trying to,
I'm trying to go,
but there's too much black shit going on.
Go to my iPad.
I mean, I've been trying to go
to go home because I got a pack
and I got a flight of Indianapolis tomorrow at noon.
The Charlotte-Meklenburg Police Department,
the police chief says there is no evidence
that racist text messages
affected law enforcement there.
Now, three police officers are already resigned.
The review board says
unanimously recommended three other cops
should be, the other cops should be terminated
and have their law enforcement certifications revoked.
So police chief Estella Patterson,
she announced that an internal CMPD investigation
found no evidence,
a biased group text threat impacted criminal cases
or enforcement, even though they said,
they would say in there how they were,
they had a contest on who can arrest the most black people.
According to Patterson, the message thread spanned several years
and involved six department employees representing three different racial backgrounds.
Four of the six officers belong to the 2024 recruiting class.
Patterson described her personal reaction to the findings as one of disgust,
anger and frustration.
Following the discovery, Patterson said the department ordered the body-worn camera footage,
arrest records, external complaint histories,
and traffic stops of traffic data of the office.
is involved. As of this point, we have not found any evidence of this.
Patterson said regarding potential biased enforcement.
She addressed the community impact directly, pointed to her own career path with the agency.
Just real quick, thoughts of, I don't, Greg, you look a little perplexed.
You know why? Why did they quit?
And she come on back.
Yeah, why did three resign? Why did three resign?
re-resign. That's why I was talking about earlier. They would say, oh, this is personal animus.
They just hateful, whatever, there's no pattern. They try and avoid, how many millions of
dollars of lawsuits, Representative Jones? They're trying to avoid a big payouts. And I can understand
that. But how in the hell you're going to say there's no impact? There's no, at the same time,
you got rid of them. Yeah, man, the lawsuits are coming. I think we could probably all predict
that. Jelana, this report from QC, the Metro said the text messages were uncovered during
a State Bureau of Investigation Inquiry into an officer's misuse of license plate reader
technology. The SBI shared information with CMPD's Internal Affairs Unit for a parallel internal
inquiry leading investigators directly to the text thread. CMPD subsequently convened
an independent chain of command board hearing. Patterson said the board voted unanimously
to recommend termination for the remaining three officers, a recommendation she fully supports.
To Greg's point, hell, if y'all didn't find an impact on anything, why did three quit and why
got one of five the other three.
Hmm.
So this is what I have.
We have literally spent an entire show today, mostly,
talking about Negroes who happy being there and who will pee on us and tell us
it's raining for the most part.
So on the one hand, she's a black woman.
She's disappointed, you know, about this and it's serious.
Yet they didn't find where it affected.
Hell yeah.
Their foundational belief is how many black people can we arrest and they have a competition
to be the winner?
it absolutely did. So she's talking out the side of her neck. It doesn't make sense. And I just wish
that black folks who are in positions to make a difference would make the damn difference.
But like it was said earlier, it's about to be some lawsuits. And if I were the lawyer for any of
the people who were arrested by any of these officers, I try to undo every single solitary
arrest, every single solitary conviction. And I would try to make it. And I would try to make
make sure that it's a class action so we can freaking bankrupt the police department.
Because the only thing that rich people listen to is when you screw with their pocketbook,
period, point blank, full stop.
That's America.
America only understands money.
And when you start hitting them in the pocketbook, folks start paying attention.
All right, folks, funeral raiders for R&B legend Freddie Jackson have been set.
According to a post of Jackson's Instagram page, the funeral will be held at Mount,
Baptist Church in Harlem on Monday, October 19th at 10 a.m. Jackson died Monday,
October 5th at the age of 70. We will, of course, be picking up their live stream, and we
will carry that live stream right here on Roland Martin Unfiltered and the Black Star Network.
Again, a funeral is set for 10 a.m. on Monday. All right, y'all, we got some travel ahead.
