Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. Hey, folks, today is Thursday, October 31st, 2024. Coming up on Roland Martin Unfiltered, streaming the Black Star Network. We are live here in Milwaukee where we are here at a faith rally, getting the folks to vote out. President Bill Clinton is going to be here as we are five days away from Election Day. Coming up next, we're going to talk to Congressman Maxwell Frost about this election and also share some other thoughts. It is lots going on. And, folks, it's time to bring the funk on I'm Roland Martin on Filter, the Blackstud Network.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Let's go. He's got whatever the piss he's on it. Whatever it is, he's got the scoop, the fact, the fine. And when it breaks, he's right on time. And it's rolling. Best believe he's knowing. Putting it down from sports to news to politics. With entertainment just for kicks He's rolling, it's Uncle Roro, y'all
Starting point is 00:01:12 It's rolling, Martin, yeah Rolling with rolling now He's funky, he's fresh, he's real, the best you know He's funky, fresh, he's real, the best you know, he's rolling, Martel. Martel. Folks, we're here in Milwaukee, five days before the election, where this is a faith rally. President Bill Clinton will be speaking. And so these folks here gathered, it's all about getting the vote out. This is one of the seven battleground states that will determine the next president of the United States.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Wisconsin is a very tight race here. We look at the polling data. And so this is about mobilizing and organizing the faith community that drive people to the polls on election day. And so lots we're going to be talking about. We're going to be taking this rally live. But right now, we're going to chat with Congressman Congressman Maxwell Frost out of Florida. Congressman, welcome back to the Roland Martin show. As I said, five days away from election day. And this is all about this is not about policies. This is not about white papers, but proposals. This is now about turnout, turnout, turnout. A hundred and ten percent. That's what's going on as you see at the rally you're at,
Starting point is 00:02:33 but across the entire country, especially in the battleground states. I actually just got back like a day and a half ago. I was on the road for two straight weeks for the VP. I'm on the National Advisory Board for the campaign. And part of what I was focused on was speaking with young voters at college campuses all across the country. And I got to tell you, the energy is high. And the bellwether for me that's important that I always bring up is that at these rallies, at these events I was at, there would be a large part of the crowd that afterwards they tell me, I've never been to a political event before. It's the first time I've gotten involved. And that for me is the real bellwether that this election is different. You know, there's a difference between a political candidate and a movement candidate.
Starting point is 00:03:13 And I think this campaign is more of a movement campaign, which is part of the reason we're going to win in just a few days. Of course, you had the vice president with her closing argument Tuesday at the Ellipse. Of course, national media chose to focus on comments made by President Joe Biden. She made it perfectly clear Donald Trump wants to be a petty tyrant. We see exactly how he's operating. And so a people of voters got to make a decision. And that is, do they want to move forward with half of the team that gave us this? Of course, the economy that's recovered.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Or do we want to go back to the person who actually crashed the economy? It really is a stark contrast between these two candidates. Exactly. And all you got to do is look at the data. I mean, Democrats have better economic policy for all of America, and especially when we talk about black Americans in this country and black business owners. Number one, nine out of the 10 last recessions happened under Republican presidents. I mean, and I don't understand Donald Trump's argument, too. He keeps coming on stage and saying, are you better off four years ago? Are you better
Starting point is 00:04:15 off now than you were four years ago? Four years ago, there were people dying because of COVID, because of his inaction and inability to be a good leader, commander in chief. Four years ago, we were stuck in our homes because he didn't do his job in the way he needed to do it to make sure we could get back to normal life in a faster way. He was out there telling people to shoot a bleach in their arms. We had the lowest rates of wages of corporations and billionaires who were making record profits, and the Trump administration did absolutely nothing to rein in the outrageous greed that corporations, these big corporations and billionaires were, you know, the exploitation they were doing to us in our communities, especially black and brown communities. So, yeah, four years ago, we were not in a good place.
Starting point is 00:04:59 We are doing a lot better now. Inflation is going down. Is there more work to do? One hundred ten percent. Weflation is going down. Is there more work to do? 110%. We still have massive wealth inequality. We still have a lot of work to do in terms of equity in this country. And when it comes down to these two people, it's a very easy choice for me, at least, especially as a young American, that we need Kamala Harris. And so Donald Trump, it looks like he's been his own worst enemy this last week. I mean, we saw at that rally a few days ago in New York City, second most
Starting point is 00:05:25 amount of Puerto Ricans in the country in that state disparaging Puerto Ricans. A few months earlier talking horrible, racist and bigotry about Haitian Americans. I mean, it's the insult and injury tour. We'll see what he says over the next few days. You got
Starting point is 00:05:42 1.1 million Puerto Ricans in your state, 500,000 in Pennsylvanialvania and that that comment is still reverberating across the community this is going to be election when it comes to the margins again here in wisconsin biden harris won this thing by 20 000 votes uh in 2020 when you look at of course georgia some 11 700 votes arizona 10 000. And so when you talk about those type of comments, that could, again, tip the election, depending upon that particular state. It's 100,000 Puerto Ricans in North Carolina. Yeah, 110 percent. And people should look at this, too, because we it was about a couple of months ago. There's a famous reggaeton artist named Nicky Jam who endorsed Donald Trump at a rally. Donald Trump didn't even
Starting point is 00:06:25 know who he was. Before Donald Trump introduced him, he said, she's hot, not even knowing who the person is, the guy. Either way, yesterday, the day before, he came out and rescinded his endorsement of Donald Trump. That's a pretty big move to do. And that, I think, is a really good microcosm or example of how this is really, like you said, reverberated throughout the Puerto Rican community. And in fact, I have a ton of Puerto Rican friends. I live in Orlando, Florida. We have the most Puerto Ricans here in the state of Florida. And all of them have told me, yo, my WhatsApp chats with my family members across the country, it's going crazy. That video has made it everywhere. And a ton of my conservative cousins, conservative uncles are
Starting point is 00:07:04 saying, you know what? One of two things. Either I'm not going to vote or I'm voting for Kamala Harris. All right. Congressman Maxwell Frost, we certainly appreciate it. Thank you so very much. Thanks for having me on, man. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Let's go to my pound. Dr. Greg Carr, Department of Afro-American Studies at Howard University out of D.C. Recy Colbert, host of the Recy Colbert Show on Sirius XM Radio, also along with Victoria Burke with Black Virginia News out of Arlington. Folks, we're not sure how much time we're going to have because, of course, this is supposed to start at 5.15, so we actually see what's going to happen. I made the point there, Recy, turnout, turnout, turnout. This is where ground game comes in.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Donald Trump has outsourced his ground game to Elon Musk. You've got more than 2,500 staffers of the Harris for President campaign, field offices, hundreds of thousands of volunteers. This is right now about pounding the pavement to get those low propensity voters and likely voters out to the polls where early voting is ending a lot of places Saturday or Sunday, but definitely on election day on Tuesday. Absolutely. I mean, listen, you cannot have trafficked canvassers who don't even know who the hell they're campaigning for being trafficked around in U-Hauls and made to basically earn their hotel and airfare and think that's how you're going to win a motherfucking election. So I'm very, very happy to see the continued incompetence from the Trump campaign, the complete arrogance and hubris on what it actually takes to turn out voters. I've also seen reports that they're basically trying to use micro-targeting, digital micro-targeting to get out voters as opposed to a ground game. And we know that the ground game made all the difference when Obama won, both times he won,
Starting point is 00:08:44 and when President Biden won and Kamala Harris won in this last time. And so they're leaving nothing on the field. I'm excited about the amount of enthusiasm that we're seeing, the amount of volunteerism. I'm still getting hit up, child. People want me to hop on a bus and do this. So one thing is for sure, they're not letting up on the texts and emails and trying to get people, even more people out to vote.
Starting point is 00:09:12 So I think that if it comes down to who turned out the voters and who turned out, like you said, the low-priced voters, we got this in the bag. Lauren, here's the whole deal. Republicans are trying to sow seeds of discontent. You see them dropping these memos, Trump's pollster today saying it's going to be a decisive victory. They've been putting stuff out saying for two weeks, all that the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris is crashing. The reality is, if you're winning, you don't do that. That's not how you behave if you're winning. Yeah, I think
Starting point is 00:09:35 they're just trying to set up a narrative. Really, frankly, I think they're trying to set the expectation that Trump is going to win by a large margin, and then when it doesn't happen, they can say something was rigged and something was stolen. They're trying to start a bunch of narratives. One narrative we know is the fact that, of course, that the pre-registrations and that bump in registration that happened when the vice president first got to the race is a reality. There's clearly a bump of new voters, younger voters and female voters. That should be good for the vice president.
Starting point is 00:10:06 And I don't know how they're going to get around that. But of course, it all comes down to Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. You know, Greg, everybody, of course, all this attention has been focused on black men. But the reality is what we're seeing is that what happened when Stacey Abrams ran for governor the second time. All the talk about black men not going to vote for Stacey, not going to vote for a woman. And then when it came to the election, they actually voted. And so we're seeing the exact same thing. But to Lauren's point, women are turning out in serious numbers in the young women. It absolutely bodes well for the vice president. And so this could be where that Dobbs decision plays a huge role in the vice
Starting point is 00:10:44 president focusing on reproductive rights, that massive rally in Houston with some 30,000 on Friday. That makes a difference when you're talking about, again, winning elections by the margins. Absolutely. If nothing else, if nothing else, the last couple of weeks for sure, as you've traveled around the country with breakneck pace, have demonstrated the utter uselessness of white news entertainment media. The New York Times finally seems to be catching up a little bit, particularly after the debacles at The Washington Post and the L.A. Times. Today's paper writing about how the T demographic in terms of race and gender, it's not black men, it's white women, and how canvassers are seeing white women very quietly signaling that while they may live in a household where some of them are hostages to these domineering
Starting point is 00:11:31 white males who are trying to vote for Trump, they may go into the booth and pick another choice. The Dobbs effect is real. There in Wisconsin, of course, as you're there, as you've been traveling around the country, we got almost a million people out of the three and a half million people eligible have voted in Wisconsin. When you were in Texas, over 5.4 million have already voted, over a third. In Florida, over a third, 4.6 million.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Georgia, 2.8 million. My point is that we are approaching 50 million people in this country who have early voted. That's close to a third of the number of people who voted in the last election. Why am I saying that? I think that the banking vote effort, that vote to extend Election Day all the way from the beginning of early voting until November 5th, is going to pay dividends. Finally, The Times also has an article today about the fact that they're driving these insane right-wing polls and places like RealClearPolitics just fold them in. And so all that propaganda, whether it be The New York Times, ABC, Sienna, any of them, and these right-wing conglomerates, and the betting sites where four accounts linked to somebody in France have been putting $30 million on Donald Trump. As Lauren said, this is setting it up. It almost smells, as we saw that fool running around with an orange vest almost as orange as his mottled face yesterday,
Starting point is 00:12:50 it almost smells of desperation, doesn't it? But you're seeing it in real time on the road, Ron. Absolutely. And, Greg, here's the deal. This is also going to be a legal battle. And so, again, lawyers are going to be very busy. Republicans want to play this game. We saw what happened last time. So folks need to be a legal battle. And so, again, lawyers are going to be very busy. Republicans want to play this game. We saw what happened last time. So folks need to be understanding. We're already hearing folks out of Georgia say they might not have their full results until Thursday or Friday.
Starting point is 00:13:14 And so although election night is Tuesday, this may be a repeat of 2020, where it was several days afterwards, but we learned who actually won the presidency. Absolutely. And we know, we heard MAGA Mike Johnson, that Muppet, so close that he can smell it and taste it, like Elon Musk losing his little mind talking about what they're going to do when they take over the Congress and the presidency. We know that the legal battle is delayed. I mean, how long have we been talking about that, Ron, since the beginning? The whole idea is that we can get it close to and then pass the day to confirm the vote, to certify the vote. Then we can just
Starting point is 00:13:50 throw it into the House of Representatives. They've already started lawsuits. They've got lawsuits filed in places like Arizona. She's going to be at Howard. When we're all together there at the network, at Black Star Network on Tuesday, she's going to be on campus. The young people, some of them, and I've been teaching all day today, some of them are leaving town. Why? Because we know she's going to be on campus. The young people, some of them, and I've been teaching all day today,
Starting point is 00:14:06 some of them are leaving town. Why? Because we know there's going to be a target on the back at Howard University. Nobody expects that this election is going to be called on Tuesday night. And quite frankly, we're all on pins and needles. And as far as those young people are concerned, there is some anxiety because they're thinking these hillbillies are going to show up and act out. And Howard is closed at least through Thursday.
Starting point is 00:14:26 And then they say impending what happens in the election. We're all going to be waiting on that. Well, I'll tell you what, Lauren, Bob Miles is here. There's a guaranteed way to avoid this legal drawdown battle, and that is have a decisive knockout and a massive voter turnout for Vice President Kamala Harris. That's how you beat them. No, absolutely. I think that that is somewhat unlikely because, remember, Biden, I think it was Biden and Trump was like 51-48 or 51-47. I mean, that was a close race. We don't know what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:15:01 It's a compacted race for her, an unexpected run for the presidency. She had to build it in three months. I think they did an excellent job of building what they built in only three and four months. I mean, it's incredible when you think about it, this unprecedented situation the vice president found herself in and really built up a campaign. But these are really close. These states come very close in just sort of a normal year. You would think that with somebody like Donald Trump on the ballot, who is a certifiable pathological liar and is talking openly about, you know, using the military on American citizens and everything else, you would think it would not be close. But it is close because we do have the demographic of the vice president, first black woman running. That is going to make it close. You know, it's contingent on a bunch of white folks running, you know, voting for somebody black.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So that's always a big, you know, question mark. Yeah. But here's the deal, Reese. It's not just folks voting for someone black. It's the reality that this country has never elected a woman president. And so we cannot underestimate that as well, which is why I think, I think, again, we look at what turnout is, especially among these young women. And I really do hope that white women in this country are recognizing what's going on and they don't reward
Starting point is 00:16:21 Donald Trump like they did with 52 to 53 percent of their vote in 2016 and 2020. Yeah, I mean, I remember during the midterms where people criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her emphasis on reproductive rights. And it was like, oh, nobody cares. And guess what? Reproductive rights was the reason why the Democrats were able to hold the Senate. And I mean, people in New York just didn't give a damn show up. And so they lost the House basically through the horrible maps that were drawn in New York. But they far exceeded the expectations. And what everybody had predicted would be a red wave because of a large part because of Vice President Kamala Harris's barnstorming the country on the issue of reproductive rights. I appreciate in her in her in her closing speech. She she she she didn't just focus on any one thing. She made a strong economic argument. She
Starting point is 00:17:09 made a strong argument about democracy. She made a strong argument about reproductive rights. And everybody in the party is all over the country making sure that this message gets out here. But I just want to point out, I do believe that it's close. I believe that it's going to be a nail biter. But I also want to point out that we've believe that it's close. I believe that it's going to be a nail biter. But I also want to point out that we've seen very high profile cases where Black women have far exceeded whatever the polls were saying. We look at Karen Bass. Los Angeles is 6% Black. She still won Los Angeles pretty decisively against Rick Caruso, who outspent her by $100 million. Angela Alsa Brooks beat David Trone decisively.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Molly Bobbitt, no polls had her margins anywhere near the bar park of where she ended up, and she was outspent. And so I'm going to say, as much as it is close, and I'm not going to predict a blowout, if I had to bet on who might beat the polls and who might be more beneficial from if their support is understated.
Starting point is 00:18:09 I would bet on Vice President Kamala Harris, because for whatever reason, people don't want to put it out there that they voted for a Black woman. They'll say what they do about other people. And yet we've seen Black women run these very tough and what appear to be closer races. And so I think that all of the steps they've taken are going to lead, hopefully, to the W, particularly what they're doing on the ground. Yes. So we are here in Milwaukee. And so this is the faith rally. It's going to be starting very soon. President Bill Clinton is one of the folks who are going to be speaking. I'm going to
Starting point is 00:18:41 be speaking here as well. And y'all remember I addressed those comments by Donnie Swaggart. Well, Bishop Clarence McClendon actually made some similar comments. And so if this program starts, I'm going to stop it. But go ahead and play that because I need to. I think I want this pound to address what this idiot had to say play it things but i saw the madam vice president in a rally where some people said jesus is lord and she looked at them and said you're in the wrong rally and they tried to sweep it you they tried to sweep it under the rug like she wasn't addressing that but there were two people one had said that she was telling lies and the other said jesus is lord and she addressed them both she said you all not one of you y'all
Starting point is 00:19:33 are at the wrong rally you don't believe me they kept it out of the news while on the other hand the other candidate has people singing how great thou art in his rallies, and still a bunch of pimp jack-legged preachers who are in bed with the political elite are trying to tell their congregations to vote for someone who is against the Judeo-Christian ethic. That devil is a liar. And God will determine who's who. You're looking at me like you didn't hear about it.
Starting point is 00:20:07 That's why I brought the clip. Show it! Donald Trump hand-selected three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would undo the protections of Roe v. Wade and they did as he intended. Oh, you guys are what she was addressing. She was addressing someone who called her a liar. No, no, she was addressing them both.
Starting point is 00:20:54 She heard someone call her a liar. She heard someone say Jesus Lord. And she says, you all are at the wrong rally. And then she says, you need to go to the smaller one down the street. Well, let me tell you something my sister you need to watch how you deal with god's people in this hour because just because you get elected if you do doesn't mean you'll last god is still the god of heaven and the god that's not a threat i'm a prophet god will do certain things to silence the mouth of mockers. So you sell your vote for welfare programs, stimulus packages, housing promises,
Starting point is 00:21:33 even if the candidates are against your Christian values and your Judeo-Christian ethic. And then you have the nerve to stand in a pulpit and call yourself a child of God. No, you're not. you're not a man of god you're a preaching pimp selling your people for the latest trick don't worry i don't want to come to your conference i I've already been. God wasn't there. I ain't coming again. So let me tell you what y'all just heard. You just heard a preaching pimp. You just heard somebody have the audacity to try to call out Vice President Kamala Harris and her Christian faith. Yet Bishop Clarence McClendon, who stood up there with his S curl, and he said nothing about the lies of Donald Trump.
Starting point is 00:22:27 He said nothing about Donald Trump cheating on multiple wives, sleeping with a porn star for one of them as well. He said nothing about the comments that he's made against people. Please show me how that somehow is representing the Christian faith. Talk to me about somebody who has consistently degraded and shamed people and treated them with bad behavior. You didn't hear Bishop Clarence McClinton say a word about Donald Trump, who has cheated small businesses out of their money. You didn't hear him say anything about how he has mistreated people, how he has called folk out of their name. You heard none of that. No, what you heard was a preaching pimp who wants to
Starting point is 00:23:06 sit here and excuse the antics of somebody who is pure evil. And Bishop Clarence McLennan, please help me out. We ain't seen you out in these streets fighting on behalf of regular, ordinary folk. We haven't seen you talking about these important issues. You sound the same as crazy Donnie Swagger down there in Baton Rouge. Now you may have been on that preaching reality show but please tell me exactly what have you done. You now want to call out Vice President Kamala Harris knowing she's a Christian woman, knowing what she's expressed solely over the issue of abortion. Do you really want to go there?
Starting point is 00:23:43 60 years of the presidency and with three federal executions, Donald Trump put 13 people to death in six months. Where were you on that? Please tell me, Bishop Clarence McClendon, since you care about life, show me where you were when black folks were being gunned down by cops
Starting point is 00:24:01 who were unarmed. Show me where you are when it comes to the issue of black maternal health care. This is what happens when we have you so-called sanctified preachers who stand up and spew nonsense out of your pulpits, and you question the vice president, but you say nothing but that evil imp Donald Trump. We called Bishop Clarence McClendon to get him on this show. His staff said that he was in Africa.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Well, guess what? Skype works in Africa. FaceTime works in Africa. And I dare this Bishop Clarence McClendon. If you want to have a faith conversation, bring it. If you want to have a conversation about politics and faith and morality, please bring it. But I don't think you want to have that conversation with me because I think you are preaching pimp. Go right ahead, Reese. Chad, you're not trying to hit me because the bishop out. So I'll just say that a person who sides with a convicted rapist because the judge clarified that he was found civilly to have raped E. Jean Carroll, if that's who you want to stop it, that's who your people are, that's all we need to know.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Okay? So, that's fine. You want to sit up there and you want to, you know, propagate lies and hoot and holla and all that stuff? Child, bye. That's okay. That Trump check is not going to clear. Okay? And he's not going to win. How about that?
Starting point is 00:25:26 Lauren? I think these guys just want attention. I really do. I think they use the vice president to get attention and rant and rave about something that's a non-controversy and ride the attention of that. I just don't think that it really matters what Bishop McClendon says, quite frankly. They're a bigger fish to fry. And I think he's just using this moment as a fake controversy to get attention on himself. Well, he got some attention. I'm coming with the smoke, Greg.
Starting point is 00:25:57 You are coming with the smoke, brother. And I agree with Lauren and Reesey. I mean, I won't say Bishop because at this point, you know, I think we're all old enough to remember a time when that meant something very different. At this point, I could be a bishop. All I got to do is get somebody to tell me I'm a bishop and I can tell them they're a bishop. And we're all bishops, I guess. You a bishop, I'm a bishop. You get a car, you get a car. But at any rate, this is the guy from Real Preachers of LA. I heard you say reality story. I didn't watch it, but I remember a little dust-up he got in,
Starting point is 00:26:25 and then T.D. Jakes got involved and said, you know, my congregation didn't pay for my car, and then he jumps in. I mean, you know, S. Curl is right. I mean, he looks like maybe a reverse-aging Little Richard over there. And from what I can tell, at least in the controversy when he divorced his first wife and then married a second one seven days later, and then she started talking about, you know, the inside parts of the marriage and how he didn't want his reputation damaged, which is why he pressed her for the divorce. We may, some of us
Starting point is 00:26:53 may remember when he was invited by Donald Trump to sit down and he rejected the invitation saying that, you know, he didn't want it to be seen as an endorsement. Well, how did you get invited in the first place? You know, I grew up at a time when, you know, I grew up in the period when you start seeing those megachurch preachers. But last I checked, Jesus Christ never had a mortgage, never lived in one of those beautiful edifices that had been built in his name with the crosses on the top as if putting a little electric chair on the top of the church, like Jesse Jackson said when he said that was the instrument of death then and what it would be now. You know, I'm always suspicious of those who would wrap themselves in the Bible, who look
Starting point is 00:27:32 so flashy and who have so much money and who are pouring out over our people who are so desperately in need of rejuvenation and hope, and then live off of them, suck off of them, and Bishop McClinton, pimp off of them. Last I checked, finally, is it Amos Brown, our frat brother, who's Kamala Harris's pastor? It doesn't seem to me that Clarence McClendon could carry the toenail of a man like that. Sir, you make a mockery of the tradition you claim to be in. And in fact, I'm going to stop there before I say something I will regret, but I'll just say this. The church I grew up in, the most humble servants are the
Starting point is 00:28:11 ones who are the followers of Christ. You, sir, are a clown. Folks, the program here in Milwaukee has started, so what we're going to do is we're going to go live to this. And again, this is a faith rally here in Milwaukee, five days out to drive folks out to the polls to support Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Just know I'm going to carry this. We're going to be in Detroit this weekend. Governor Wes Moore is going to be there in Flint on Saturday. Vice President Kamala Harris is going to be in Lansing on Sunday. We'll be there with her Monday. We'll be in Detroit
Starting point is 00:28:48 with Governor Tim Walz. We'll be broadcasting there this weekend. I'm in Mobile, Alabama tomorrow. So all that is going on. So let's now go live to the program here in Milwaukee. So much pain Tell me What do you do What do you do when you've done all that you can
Starting point is 00:29:09 and it seem like it's never enough well you just stand when there's nothing left to do. You just stand and watch the Lord is going to see you through. After you've done all that you can, you just stand and be sure. Be not entangled in that bondage. Can you just stand? Stand and endure. For God has a purpose. You see, God has a plan. And we've done all that you can. And it seems like it's never enough.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Well, you just stand. You just stand. Stand. Don't you ever give up. Through the storm, stand, through the rain, stand, through the hurt, stand, through the pain. Hold on, stand on You just be strong God will never leave you He will never leave you alone Stand
Starting point is 00:30:57 You just stand Stand You just stand. After you've done all that you can. After you've done all you know how to do. After you've done all you know how to do. You prayed and you cried. Cried and you prayed all night long. Stand my brothers, stand my sisters.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You just said. Hallelujah. You just said Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage Congresswoman Gwen Moore. Amen! The law is right there. Tony Neal, after you've done all that you can, stand. I am so glad to have this, to be here on this auspicious occasion with the faith community.
Starting point is 00:32:17 The faith community has headlined every movement that has been positive in our country. You know, just let that sink in. Without a faith community, you have no progress. And I'll tell you, we got one more Sunday, one more Sabbath day, one more Friday night in the faith community to deliver our message to our people. Now I'm not a minister and I sure can't sing.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Otherwise I would have sang that Tony but I can't do that. But I tell you what Tony said was after you've done all that you can, then you have to stand. And I think about one of the phrases that we use often, and that is we need to pray with our feet.
Starting point is 00:33:14 You know, the first time, first person that I knew who ever talked about that was Frederick Douglass when he said, you know, he used to pray for freedom, but freedom really was, he was not able to obtain that until he prayed with his feet. And so that is one of the messages we need to get to our congregants. And also, we need to let people know that our ministry is not about praying on Sundays, P-R-A-Y, and then praying on people, P-R-E-Y, for the rest of the time.
Starting point is 00:33:58 You know, other than former President Bill Clinton, who's going to join us here. I think I'm the only other person who has met both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in person. And I'm telling you, for all you people who are into just the vibes, the minute I got in the room with Donald Trump, I mean, I could feel that negative force and that negative energy. Someone who
Starting point is 00:34:28 preys on people and even preys on our faith community. I mean, he made a deal with the evangelical community to become the president. And while at the same time allowing people to die every single day because of the chaos that this law has caused, intervening in what is basic health care for women. It is basic health care. There's so many reasons that people need to have a pregnancy terminated. And it is not something that people ought to have informed them about all of the rest of the things that they need to consider. He prayed on the evangelical community. I've met him in person, and I can tell you that he will. Every year he was
Starting point is 00:35:28 president, he tried to cut social security. I'm on the committee that deals with social security. I was at the scene of the crime. When he tried to cut social security by suspending payroll taxes. I don't know if Clinton is going to get out here and talk about it's the economy stupid or not. That's a line that came out of his campaign. But I'm going to tell you, I was there. I was in the room where it happened. When this president tried to cut the Affordable Care Act, Obamacare,
Starting point is 00:36:08 I was there when former President Obama, he gets a lot of credit among your constituencies for signing that check. Let me tell you it was smart politics he signed not a single Republican voted for that check
Starting point is 00:36:32 it was Democrats me who voted for that check applause so don't get it twisted y'all don't go for the okie-doke. When you get with your congregants this weekend,
Starting point is 00:36:50 let them know that they need to pray with their feet and pray the predators out. Thank you and welcome. please welcome to the stage first lady dr marcia tipton hello hello good evening i want to give honor to god who's the head of my life to the best bishop in the world bishop ch mlellan. Act like I said something in this room. Also, to my favorite pastor in the whole wide world, Pastor Dr. Stephen C. Tipton. To all of the clergy and all of the elected officials, God is great. Amen? Coming up here to just tell you as a First Lady of El
Starting point is 00:37:40 Bethel, as a professor and as a clinician, it is so important for us in this historical moment in time to do something that has never been done before, amen, and that is to take the time to vote for VP Harris, amen, for presidency, amen. She is competent. She's intelligent. She also is concerned about the people in the constituencies of this nation. Amen. And so the most, one of the most important issues that I support that she runs is the issue of the government,
Starting point is 00:38:16 not making choices for women. Amen. They cannot make a decision on how we decide we use our bodies amen and so i pray and i urge you all to vote and support her she is the best candidate for this time be blessed please welcome to the stage Elder Tiggs Washington. Good evening, good evening. I've been summoned to call us to a moment in a posture of prayer. So let us pray.
Starting point is 00:39:04 God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who has brought us thus far along this way. We thank you for being a God of mercy and a God of wisdom. We come before you at this time of change, this time of transition, lifting up our nation as we face this very important upcoming presidential election. God, with so much injustice, division, and fear in our world today, we pray that your presence will continue to guide us for the days ahead. God, we pray that your justice, we pray that your will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Starting point is 00:39:42 And we pray, God, that you will just allow every person in here today to be inspired not only to cast their vote, but to encourage somebody else to vote. God, we pray for every volunteer, every coalition, every organization, every volunteer who's working on behalf of justice. And we pray, God, that we may be able to reflect your values of compassion and peace. God, give us strength and resilience through this election cycle.
Starting point is 00:40:18 God, guide our communities, God. And we pray for our candidate. We pray for VP Harris and her campaign, God, that you will continue to protect her. Because, God, we know, God, being on this campaign trail is difficult. But, God, we thank you for the faith leaders. We thank you for the nonprofit leaders. And we pray that we may be able to be bold enough, to be courageous enough, to cast our vote to have a new leader in office and which will be VP Harris.
Starting point is 00:40:48 God, we thank you for this day. And we pray that you will just allow justice just to roll down. And so, God, we just say thank you. We love you. And it's in your name we pray. Amen. Amen. Please welcome Reverend Marilyn Miller good evening everybody please receive these words from the Lord from Psalm 37 verses 23 to 31.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Our steps are made firm by the Lord when he delights in our way. Though we stumble, we shall not fall headlong for the Lord holds us by the hand. I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging for bread. They are ever giving liberally and lending and their children become a blessing. Depart from evil and do good, so you shall abide forever. For the Lord loves justice. He will not forsake his faithful ones.
Starting point is 00:42:12 The righteous shall be kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off. The righteous shall inherit the land and live in it forever. The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom and their tongues speak justice. The law of their God is theirs in their hearts and their steps do not slip. This is the word of the Lord for you. Thank you. And now please welcome Supervisor Saquonna Taylor. Good evening.
Starting point is 00:43:00 How y'all doing? We're kind of quiet. I guess I want to say praise God. My name is Saquonna Taylor. I guess I want to say praise God. My name is Sequanna Taylor. I currently serve as county supervisor for District 5, and also I am the state elect for District 11. I'm also ordained as a missionary in the Church of God in Christ. So when they told us that we come up here and we talk about politics and faith, I'll often say most of those people that ran for office started in the basement of a church. So they've always been involved with those leaders that have to go forward in our community
Starting point is 00:43:26 that stand in the line with our values, right? And so often I've been knocking on doors. I've been hearing Wisconsin. I went to Arizona and I've been hearing a lot of people talk about Vice President Kamala Harris. Is she able to do the job? And I said, if we want to talk about credentials, she has that down pack. So that's a check, right? If we want to talk about her leading, she has that down pack. So that's a check, right?
Starting point is 00:43:45 If we want to talk about her leading, she has that down pack as a vice president. So that's a check. And so I'm often telling people, if we want to go by credentials and experience, there is nobody else in this race that we should be voting for. But I know I'm in a room full of people that believe. So also when we talk about let's go back to biblical and it takes me back to Deborah, who was a judge back in the day who stood aside as a woman with two men and they told her we won't go without you because she was sent there by God
Starting point is 00:44:14 to lead. So when I think about Vice President Kamala Harris being sent to lead our people and us saying we won't go because we're no, not only are you qualified to lead, you have the credentials to leave, but we also go stand behind you so that you are able to leave. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:44:31 All right. I just want to get an amen because, like I said, if we're going to be here for under the rule for the believers, they always tell us to put some biblical aspects on it. And so I want you all to understand that that vote next week is very important. I hear a lot of people saying they're waiting. Don't wait until November 5th. We still have early voting going on. November 5th is the last day to vote, not the first one.
Starting point is 00:44:50 We don't know what's going to happen November 5th. Maybe your car is messed up. Maybe your kids ain't acting right. Maybe you couldn't get off of work. It's going to rain, and we know with us, if it's raining, we don't want to get our hair wet, so I'm just going to be honest for all of us up in here. So if you can go vote, please go vote, right? And we want to talk about that voting.
Starting point is 00:45:10 And so always we say, with people in office, how do we hold them accountable? She's the president of the United States. We got to first think about our local government. So while you're voting for president, don't forget to vote for state. Don't forget to vote for local. And so when we say accountability, I often tell people as an elected, hold me accountable. But I want to hold you accountable too, because when you voted me in, right, when we talk about meetings, I go into rooms when we just passed, we go past a billion dollar budget with county. When I looked out, there wasn't a lot of
Starting point is 00:45:38 people that looked like me or a lot of people within the faith community. So I'll take some of that thought to say, maybe we need to get the word out more, but I need y'all to be accountable. I need y'all to be present. So we can't talk about what's not happening in our community if we're not pushing forth to make sure that they're doing exactly what they said they was doing. And I'm one elected that say, it's easy as you voted me in when I don't align with your morals and your belief, please vote me out, but make sure you got a plan of somebody else that's going to stand up there and advocate and fight for you. They say if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together. So I'm here to say how many people going with me when we vote for the next president of the
Starting point is 00:46:16 United States of America? And that will be Kamala Harris if we all get out there and vote. And I know from the pulpit y'all can't say who to vote for, but y'all can absolutely tell them to exercise their right to vote. And when you vote, don't vote. That's a no. When you don't vote, don't complain to me about the economy. Don't complain to me about jobs. Don't complain to me about the education center because the school board is the least amount of people that go out and vote.
Starting point is 00:46:39 It has over 20% of people who vote. So when we want to look at ourselves and talking about what's going on in our economy, what's going on in Milwaukee, because we're here in Milwaukee, then let's look at ourselves. They always say that man or woman in the mirror, what are you doing? So if you're not voting, don't complain. Right? So I thank
Starting point is 00:46:57 you all for having me come out here today. If you have not voted, November 5th is the last day to vote. Can we say it again? November 5th is the what? It's the last day to vote. Can we say it again? November 5th is the what? It's the last day to vote. So if you know you can go on and early vote, if you need curbside for those individuals that have mobility issues, they have curbside at every place. There are 10 locations that you can early vote. Let's not wait till November 5th. Let's not sit around and say what's going on. If we want to make a difference in our community, it starts with you and it starts with us.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Let's go. Thank you. Please welcome to the stage Roland Martin. What's up, folks? Over the last couple of weeks, there have been a number of preachers who have made comments questioning the black church and their support for the vice president of the United States. I'm not going to name some folk because they don't deserve to have their name shouted. But here's what I find to be very interesting when we have this conversation. I'm listening to people who talk about they are pro-life.
Starting point is 00:48:08 But how can you be pro-life but you vote against food for kids? How can you be claimed to be pro-life and you have no record when it comes to black maternal health? How can you call yourself pro-life and stand with a known liar? Yet when black men are shot and killed by police, folk are silent when they are there. How can they claim to be pro-life when they are voting against measures that will improve somebody's life? See,
Starting point is 00:48:43 just, just say you're anti-abortion, but don't say you're pro-life. Because if you are truly a child of God and you are pro-life, then you will be supporting folk from the womb to the tomb. And that's not what we're seeing right now. What we're seeing are individuals who are not supporting initiatives. Because when I look at what the vice president has done, and I've covered her and I've talked to her and I've looked at these initiatives, when you talk about pulling 400,000 kids out of poverty as a result of SNAP benefits, that's what public policy is supposed to do. When 10 black
Starting point is 00:49:15 people were gunned down in Buffalo and Democrats, every republic except one voted against the measure to call out white supremacy in law enforcement in this country. If we are going to have people claim to love Jesus, you better love all of Jesus because you cannot say you love Jesus and support Trump and a party that votes against poor people because last I checked, Jesus talked more about poor folk than he did billionaires. And so church leaders are going to have to be willing to call out their conservative evangelical friends and let them know you do not have a patent on Jesus.
Starting point is 00:49:58 You do not control the question of faith. And anybody who claims to love Jesus, who will knowingly support a known liar who has been found guilty of sexual assault, I will question the Jesus that you follow. Thank you. I ain't got to talk long. You're doing good. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome back to the stage First Lady Dr. Tipton and joining her, John W. Daniels III.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Good evening, good evening. For those who I have not had the privilege to meet, I'm Pastor John Daniels III, and I have the privilege of serving as a religious and corporate affairs pastor here at Holy Redeemer. Welcome to the Institute for the Preservation for African American Music and Arts. Some of you may not know that during my time at the University of Michigan, I double majored, part of it in music production. Go blue. I can vividly recall my time there with the gospel choir and even the melodies from family and recall the tunes I heard my aunt who played the clarinet and my son who now plays the viola and the baritone. I recognize good harmonies. And that's what I think about when I think about our former president. When I was young, I remember watching him play the saxophone, his sound flowing like
Starting point is 00:51:47 a message in tune with the nation's spirit. That moment struck a chord with me, one that resonates personally and musically. His love for music wasn't just an art, but a way to connect, to bring people together in rhythm and resolve. And so it's fitting that today we have the privilege to sit in this beautiful institute, home to cultural preservation efforts in art and music. This was the essence of his leadership,
Starting point is 00:52:18 one that played through accomplishments like driving economic growth to historic heights, expanding access to health care and education, and fostering global diplomacy. He crafted his presidency like a great symphony, balancing power with compassion and always keeping in time in lockstep with the American people. Ladies and gentlemen, the 42nd President of the United States, President William Jefferson Clinton. Hello. Hello.
Starting point is 00:53:06 Hello. Is this working? Yeah, this works. Thank you. Please be seated. I want to first of all thank Pastor John Daniels and the whole Daniels clan for welcoming us to Holy Redeemer. And thank you, Reverend Tiggs Washington, Reverend Marilyn Miller, Pastor Teresa Thomas Boyd, and Congresswoman Gwen Moore.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Hi. You know, this is an interesting thing for me. I'm not a kid anymore, as you probably can see. And I'm not running for anything. Except my grandchildren's future. And your children and grandchildren. I'm missing Halloween tonight with my grandchildren. Usually I spend it there. I got an excused absence.
Starting point is 00:54:23 Because my daughter and son-in-law know what's on the line. And because Hillary beat me home by a little bit. You know how it is with grandkids. It depends on one day they like you better and the other day they like... But I'm very honored to be here. And I will cut to the chase.
Starting point is 00:54:55 The future of the country is on the line, and it may be decided in Wisconsin. And it will be decided by who wants it most. Who will turn out. There are still people who could be swayed who aren't planning to vote. So I'm just going to say as quick as I can what I believe. I've almost given up making conventional speeches in favor of just trying to explain things to people. It's such a crazy time.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Everybody's calling everybody else names. If we raised our children to behave the way Donald Trump has raised politicians, they'd all have to go to some kind of reform school before they could ever go to college or go to work. You know, how bad can we... And he's the best I ever saw it. Just start up resentment, you know. And most of us have enough sense from our own mistakes to teach our kids that somebody who constantly tries to make us mad
Starting point is 00:56:18 is not really our friend. That's right. I even learned in college about the medieval Prince Percival, or Parzival as the of all, has a subtitle, The Good Man Slowly Wise. And now we've got all this social media and all this stuff, we're being hit nine ways from Sunday. So here's what I know. First of all, I'm unusually qualified, I think, to at least tell you what I think, because I'm familiar with the job that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are trying to get. And because I know both candidates pretty well. And I've known Donald Trump longer than I've known Kamala Harris, although Hillary's known her for 30 years. And I want to begin in a way with the end.
Starting point is 00:57:35 Trump's goal is to keep you torn up and upset. You read, man, he goes to all these sporting events, the football games and everything, and they're full of trying to make you mad at the NCAA's position on transgender athletes that we don't have anything to do with. Now, maybe they're wrong, but if you think they're wrong about something, you need to call the NCAA. But no, this should be the only thing that matters.
Starting point is 00:58:03 Why? Because the theory is that real men will hate this and judge everything through the fact that Trump ran an ad about it. And it won't create a single job. It won't resolve the border chaos. It won't do anything. Now look at the border. President Biden offered a border compromise that Kamala Harris strongly supported. And it's worth, nobody wants to explain it anymore, but it's worth telling what happened. When Lyndon Johnson was president, that was a long time ago, he signed a law which said if you show up at our border
Starting point is 00:58:53 and you pass a vet and you look like you're safe and you want to work, with a legitimate fear of harm to your family or yourself, we'll let you in and let you work. But you can't jump the gun on becoming a citizen. You have to wait in line for that, which is nothing but fair. But there were all these people in our neighborhood, in Latin America mostly at the time, who were at risk of being hurt in countries with authoritarian communist leaders.
Starting point is 00:59:32 So Johnson signed the bill. Fast forward to the current time, when all over the world we have more people crossing the national borders than at any time since World War II, in every region of the world. And a lot of them want to come here. But the system was last reformed in 1983 when President Reagan signed a reform bill negotiated with the great Democratic Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neill. And they both honored their word and they made their compromise and that's what it
Starting point is 01:00:16 was. You know how many more people live here today than lived here in 1983? Just here. And this bill was built to process a maximum of 400,000 people a year. So we had 1 million to 1.2 million people showing up. Now, we got folks in this audience that handle big budgets, have complex management questions at your
Starting point is 01:00:51 houses of worship, but there ain't nobody here who could run over a million people through a system built for 400,000 and not have some leaks. Now, nobody ever says that. Nobody just says, here's the simple problem.
Starting point is 01:01:15 So President Biden said, look, what we need is to go back to the standards of the law. If you've got a legitimate fear of danger to yourself or your family and you do not have a criminal record and you do not present a threat to people based on any reasonable vet, then you could still be eligible, but we're going to have to limit how many people we can handle every year now because we didn't build it bigger.
Starting point is 01:01:47 So you may have to wait a little longer to get in. He said, I will do that. If people can live not luxuriously, but in a simple but clean place on the border so we never divide children from their parents again. And so we can divide children from their parents again. And so we can actually vet them properly. And everything was going on.
Starting point is 01:02:15 People said, can you believe they're doing this? I mean, we reached a point where we're surprised when Congress does anything by agreement, right? So they're going to do it until this screaming voice says, you can't do that. Who said that? Mr. Trump. And why did he say it? Because I need a problem. I need a problem. I don't need a solution. I can't have people happy. People got to be torn up and upset and mad at everybody.
Starting point is 01:02:46 That's my brand. Nothing good happens unless I did it. I got to think about today. It was a pretty day, you know, and I came over from Michigan. It was a little warmer there. And I was looking at this beautiful day, and I could just say, it's a beautiful day. And if Donald Trump were there, he'd say, I did that. And then if you said, but it rained just two days ago, he said, I know.
Starting point is 01:03:13 But if I'd been president, it never would have happened. Now, we're laughing, but that's essentially what the deal is, right? And he's as good at it as anybody I ever saw in my life for people who need it. We just saw the end of the World Series last night. And I'm from New York, so I didn't like the end too much. But I'll tell you this. It'll be a long time before we ever see a game,
Starting point is 01:03:47 a team play any better than Los Angeles did in these last five games. And everybody who loves baseball has to admit, whether you were for the anchors or not, they were just great. And that crazy inning where they won five unhung words, it looked like God was on their side last night. But the point is, if you liked it, it was thrilling. Why? Because even in that crazy inning, the rules prevailed.
Starting point is 01:04:16 They all lived and played under the same set of rules. And almost every one of you, if you go to a church or a mosque or a synagogue or a temple, you hear sometime during the week
Starting point is 01:04:40 about the best rules for living a good life, the best rules for taking a tough problem and trying to work through it, the best rules for atoning and admitting if you did wrong and then how to be restored to your life and your family. We hear that. And that's what has enabled our society to grow and change and still be faithful to our basic values. Donald Trump doesn't believe that,
Starting point is 01:05:17 and we once had a president, Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican, who people of a certain age like me were taught in school that he warned us about the military-industrial complex and not to forget about our civilian constitution. But he also did something else that today is more important. Eisenhower said said when Joe McCarthy was running crazy, there's got to be a certain age to remember Joe McCarthy,
Starting point is 01:05:50 but to the younger people here, he was a senator from Wisconsin. And he kept saying, oh, there are all these communists in the State Department, they're running wild, we'll name three. Oh, there are all these communists. He never got around to that. Turned out they did find one.
Starting point is 01:06:09 But I mean, he smeared the whole State Department. Scared everybody to death. And Eisenhower said, you know, keeping a democracy is not easy because it requires a set of rules and a set of discipline and a commitment to fairness and the facts. And I don't know how long we can save it. We are already the longest living continuous democracy in the history.
Starting point is 01:06:42 Now, what Eisenhower did was to slowly figure out how to get rid of Joe McCarthy. And when he did, Joe McCarthy's political advisor, a man named Roy Cohn, went home to New York. And guess who he went to work for? Fred Trump and his son Donald. And Roy Cohen was a fascinating man. He was Jewish and he was gay but he supported homophobic, anti-semitic politicians and he had some basic rules. Always deny anything they say about you.
Starting point is 01:07:31 Deny it. No matter how much proof they got, just deny it. And deny it and deny it and deny it. And then accuse other people of doing what you're doing. Sound familiar? And he did it. And he never dreamed that he'd have a student as good as Donald Trump turned out to be sitting right under his nose. And you got to admit, he's really good at that. I mean, he's good at making people feel insecure.
Starting point is 01:08:00 He's good at making people feel suspicious. He's good at making people not like each other. It's not good for democracy, even if you want a bunch of elections doing it. One of the most troubling things to me is the other day Trump was caught in a Zoom talking to a very conservative Christian group, and he said this. He said, you've got to get off the sidelines and vote if you want to make America great again. But if you do it just one more time,
Starting point is 01:08:43 I'll have it read by next time time and you won't have to vote. Now, I am authorized to promise you that if Kamala Harris is the next president of the United States and you don't think she's any good and you vote against her, she will honor the vote of the people. And that is a very big deal. That is a very big deal. That is a very big deal. And, you know, there are a lot of jokes,
Starting point is 01:09:14 some of them too off color to tell tonight, but not all that end with a punchline. Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? And we laugh because it's an absurd question, except in Trump land, where the answer is always, to heck with my lying eyes, whatever you want, master, I will believe it. Poor old J.D. Vance, I felt bad for him the other night.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Every time I say this, one of my alleged friends always points out that, well, he went to Yale just like you and Hillary. I said, maybe so, but we didn't forget arithmetic when we got. Because he said, finally, after he was already vice president, I mean, he slipped through the noose, and he finally admitted that he thought Trump had been robbed of the presidency in 2020, and he really wanted that role. And he waited a long time to cave, but finally he caved. His lying eyes had no more influence. Now, that's dangerous. Because last time there were people,
Starting point is 01:10:31 including these generals you've been reading about and half of Trump's cabinet, the first time we won't endorse them, and all these military leaders, the last 10 secretaries of defense, they say this is a bad idea because you cannot run a democracy and ignore the law,
Starting point is 01:10:54 try to throw people in jail you disagree with. I mean, you think I like dealing with all those guys that were calling me names for eight years? It never occurred to me to seek the Justice Department honor. Never. I thought if I'm not good enough to win an argument over the long run, I got no business doing this job.
Starting point is 01:11:16 We've got to play by the rules here. So this country, now let's be upbeat, this country has the best future prospects of any country on earth because of our diversity. Because immigrants have helped us grow. For every six new immigrants, I mean every five new immigrants, six new jobs for native-born Americans are there. The crime rate among new immigrants is roughly half what it is among the native-born. The small business formation for new immigrants is almost twice what it is for the native-born. Part of it is they're hungry.
Starting point is 01:12:12 The population rate in America is 1.7 per 1,000. That's the birth rate. Replacement is 2.1. How can we grow? Look at how Detroit and Milwaukee and all these other cities in the Middle West that were hurt so bad by the decline of manufacturing are going to be able to grow with getting rid of all the rusty pipes in cities and giving our kids clean water to drink.
Starting point is 01:12:51 With the CHIPS Act, which is going to enable us to make computer chips here that will compete with everybody in the world and end this supply chain disruption we have. There are now 60,000 projects underway on the infrastructure bill. 60,000. Soon to be 100,000. And both candidates, President Trump and President Biden, promised the infrastructure bill, only Biden delivered. In four years, that wasn't delivered. And pretty soon, you won't know anybody who hasn't been affected
Starting point is 01:13:31 by one of these road or bridge or airport or rail or water projects. They'll be everywhere. And America will be given this huge boost. And what Donald Trump is banking on is that he'll get a free ride. You know, he didn't like President Obama very much, and he said terrible things about him when he was elected in 2016. And a lot of people actually believed him that the economy wasn't very good when, in fact, it was booming. So in Trump's last two years, we had, I mean, in Obama's last two years
Starting point is 01:14:20 before Trump took office, we had 8 million jobs. Or three years. Trump had about three years before COVID really bit, and he had 6.4 million. In other words, he didn't do as well as Obama, but he did well enough so that when people started to feel these changes, he happened to be in office. And he claimed credit for all of it. Now he's saying, you can't vote for Kamala because they had inflation. And I didn't. And I had a good economy, so you have to vote for me.
Starting point is 01:15:01 And that's basically what he's saying. And a lot of people you know who say they're going to vote for him. That's what they're saying. And what I want to say to you is Joe Biden saw how long it took us to get over the crash in 2008. And they juiced the engine a little bit. And we recovered more quickly. So when he leaves office, the Biden-Harris administration will have created about 16 million jobs. More than any administration in four years.
Starting point is 01:15:36 Dare I say it, even more than we created in four years. And I'm proud of that. We're a bigger country. We ought to be creating more jobs but the important thing to remember is he didn't do it. The main thing he did was cut taxes for big corporations and they used 85% of the money to buy stock back
Starting point is 01:16:01 to make the stock worth more and raise the pay of executives. What happened was he got the tail end of Obama's recovery. Now he wants to get the tail end of what happened in the Biden-Harris years. Because I'm telling you, man, even though they had 16 million jobs, there's going to be a lot more with this infrastructure. It's the biggest program since the Interstate Highway Act. There's going to be a lot more with this infrastructure. It's the biggest program since the Interstate Highway Act. There's going to be a lot more with the CHIPS Act. And New York State alone, in northern New York,
Starting point is 01:16:33 which has a lot of Republicans, there are going to be 60,000 jobs creating these computer chips for all these companies. So they say, you've got to vote for me. No, we don't. So what's the point of all this? In my experience with both of them and with the job. I believe that the Vice President has a better economic plan,
Starting point is 01:17:13 has a better health care plan. They're going to come after those pre-existing conditions protections, and they are pledged publicly to get rid of the $35 a month cap on insulin, which will be devastating, especially to the African-American community in this country, and the $2,000 a year limit on out-of-pocket prices for drugs for people on Medicare. Kamala Harris has said, I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'm going to let younger people get the benefit of these lower prices too. It'll be much cheaper than letting them get sick and having to fix things. The health care plan is better.
Starting point is 01:17:58 The energy plan is better. We do all know that gas prices are coming down. You've all noticed that gas prices are coming down you've all noticed that right that's because we're producing more gas and more energy than we consume and a lot of it is solar and wind and geothermal and hydroelectric a lot of it is just pure old efficiency and quite a bit of it's just pure old efficiency, and quite a bit of it's natural gas.
Starting point is 01:18:33 And some of it's oil, too much, but some of it. But they are subject to environmental standards. Donald Trump just promised oil companies that if they'll give him a billion dollars, he'll get rid of every change made in the Biden-Harris years. For a billion dollars. That too is on record. I didn't make that up. And it's not right. It is not right.
Starting point is 01:19:05 It's not only bad economics and bad for the environment, it literally will cause real problems because we'll have less energy than if we stay with what we're doing. I was in western Pennsylvania the other day, which was one of the centers of the original oil economy. And in eastern Pennsylvania, they got the Marcellus Shell, where a lot of the natural gas comes from. But they have more people in western Pennsylvania, by far, working in solar and wind than they do in coal.
Starting point is 01:19:42 I mean, by light years. We got to do this together. But what Trump wants to do is just divide us all, confuse us all, and the most important thing I want to say is this. He wants to put a 20% tariff on everything we buy from other countries. Now, the only time you can justify a tariff is if we're about to produce something better at lower cost and we put a tariff on it to give the industry time to get built up and started.
Starting point is 01:20:18 But just to put an off-the-board, across-the-board tariff with no resolution of how you're going to make a living and buy this stuff is a terrible mistake. Hundreds of economists have said it's going to cost the average family $4,000 a year to pay for these tariffs. So all I ask you to do is just tell people the facts. Who's got a better economic policy? Harris does. Who's got a better health care policy? By a country mile, Harris does. We don't want you to stop these limits on insulin and out-of-pocket medical costs.
Starting point is 01:21:02 Who's got a better education policy? She does. We don't want to shut down the Department of Education. And who's got a better energy policy? She does. So this is not a close question, but you've got to give Donald Trump credit. He is better at dividing people and causing resentment and getting people to stop thinking than anybody I've ever fooled with.
Starting point is 01:21:36 So this is the last point I want to make. I think the price gouging law and building three million more houses and actually helping young people with down payments on their homes so we can get people in their homes and start building again to make housing affordable for everybody. I think it's all really important. But when you come right down to it, think of this. And maybe it's just because I'm a grandfather now. And I'm not being morbid.
Starting point is 01:22:13 I just know that we may not know the hour of day, but we're all time limited. I remember I spoke at the National Convention of the Church of God in Christ, or I think it was, and I said, I was introduced by the leader, and I said, I'm so glad to be introduced. I was leaving office. So glad to be introduced by somebody who's not term-limited. And the bishop went up to the microphone and said, oh, Mr. President, we are all term-limited. And the bishop went up to the microphone and said, oh, Mr. President, we are all term-limited. We just don't know when.
Starting point is 01:22:54 So I've thought about this a lot and realized that all my life I've been keeping score. We all keep score with our lives. And so I decided several years ago that I needed a clear message to myself about how I will try to keep score. None of us are perfect. We don't do it all the time. But at least it helps if you know what you define as a successful life.
Starting point is 01:23:28 And if you're involved in affecting other people, I think the three things that matter most are, are people better off when you quit than when you started? Do children have a brighter future? And are we coming together instead of tearing each other apart? It seems to me that if you can say yes to those three things, the rest of it's pretty much background music. And so I tried to teach our daughter to keep score that way
Starting point is 01:23:58 and that it was always good to get caught tiring. And she tries to teach her three kids, our grandkids, that in order to do that, you have to be both brave and kind. Because you never get it right the first time. You just keep on going. That's really what this election's about. How do you keep score? What kind of country do you want our kids to grow up in? And I also think it's a terrible thing for people who want to rule forever.
Starting point is 01:24:34 Because I don't care how good you are. If you're like Mr. Putin, for example, he's a very smart guy, and his first presidency worked out pretty well. But once he decided he wanted to stay for power forever, then he became primarily concerned about his power and not being one-up by anybody. And you watch with any authoritarian leader in the world, sooner or later they're going to do something they shouldn't do
Starting point is 01:25:03 because they never want to give up power. and there are lots of examples of it around the world today so that's why I'm for Kamala Harris and I think she has the potential to be a really really really good president. But... And I know America is the best-positioned country in the world for the next 30 or 40 years. But to do it, we've got to make the most of our assets, seize our opportunities, beat back our problems, and do it with a system where we all live under the same set of rules
Starting point is 01:25:48 because we know different people make better decisions than lone geniuses or homogenous ones. That's what this is about. And it's been a great honor for me to try to do right by my grandchildren in this campaign. I love being president, and it's a good thing we had the two-term limit or you'd have had to carry me out in a pine box or beat me. But it would have been wrong.
Starting point is 01:26:20 I believe in the two-term limit. I think we should all honor the obligation we have to give another generation a chance. So, please, do what you can, because the whole thing may come down to Wisconsin. I don't want you to feel any pressure, but I do. I'm not being truthful. I want you to feel the heat every minute between now and Tuesday and go win us a great victory. Bless you.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Yes, sir. Thank you. New sweet things in a different way. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow. Don't stop. It'll soon be here. It'll be here. Better than before. Yesterday's gone. Yesterday's gone. I want to think about the times to come And about the things that you've done
Starting point is 01:27:55 If your life was bad for you Just think what tomorrow will do Don't stop thinking about tomorrow Don't stop, it'll soon be It'll be better than before Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone guitar solo All I want is to see you smile If it takes just a little while I know you don't believe that it's true
Starting point is 01:28:56 I've never made it hard for you Don't stop thinking about tomorrow Don't stop, it'll soon be here It'll be better than before Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone Don't stop thinking about tomorrow Don't stop, it'll soon be here It'll be be here.
Starting point is 01:29:27 It'll be here. Better than before. Yesterday's gone. Yesterday's gone. Ooh. Don't you look back. Ooh. Don't you look back Ooh, don't you look back
Starting point is 01:29:55 Ooh She's just a girl and she's on fire Hotter than a fantasy Lonely like a highway She's living in a world and it's on fire Filled with catastrophe But she knows she can fly away Oh, she got both feet on the ground
Starting point is 01:30:27 And she's burning it down Oh, she got her head in the clouds And she's not backing down This girl is on fire This girl is on fire She's walking on fire This girl is on fire Looks like a girl but she's a flame so bright she can burn your eyes better look the other way you can try but you'll never forget
Starting point is 01:31:17 her name she's on top of the world Hottest of the hottest girls say Oh, we got our feet on the ground And we're burning it down Oh, got our head in the clouds And we're not coming down This girl is on fire America was born when we wrested freedom from a petty tyrant. Across the generations, Americans have preserved that freedom, expanded it, and in so doing, proved to the world that a government of, by, and for the people is strong and can endure.
Starting point is 01:32:18 And those who came before us, they did not struggle, sacrifice, and lay down their lives only to see us cede our fundamental freedoms to the will of another petty tyrant. So America, in seven days, we have the power to turn the page and start writing the next chapter in the most extraordinary story ever told. I'm Kamala Harris. IVF is a miracle for us because it allowed us to have our family. After having my daughter, I wanted more children, but my embryo transfer was canceled eight days before the procedure. Donald Trump overturning Roe v. Wade stopped us from growing the family that we wanted. I don't want politicians telling me how or when I can have a baby. We need a president that will protect our rights. And that's Kamala Harris. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message.
Starting point is 01:34:04 Disastrous. Alar alarming, a plan that shreds American values. That's what independent news sources and conservatives are saying about a proposal from right-wing extremists called Project 2025. It would threaten hundreds of thousands of jobs created by the Clean Energy Plan, give massive tax breaks to big oil, and roll back protections that keep corporations from poisoning our water with toxic chemicals. Project 2025, a dream for them, a disaster for you. Her blanket.
Starting point is 01:34:53 First of all, I'm the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade. Do you believe in punishment for abortion? There has to be some form of punishment. For the woman? Yeah, there has to be some form. Women will be happy, healthy, confident, and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion. That's all they talk about, abortion. You will no longer be abandoned, lonely, or scared.
Starting point is 01:35:22 You will no longer have anxiety. You will be protected, and I will be your protector. you will no longer have anxiety. You will be protected and I will be your protector. When you talk about blackness and what happens in black culture, you're about covering these things that matter to us, speaking to our issues and concerns. This is a genuine people powered movement. There's a lot of stuff that we're not getting. You get it. And you spread the word. We wish to plead our own cause to long have others spoken for us. We cannot tell our own story if we can't pay for it. This is about covering us. Invest in Black-owned media. Your
Starting point is 01:36:04 dollars matter. We don't have to keep asking them to cover our stuff. So please support us in what we do, folks. We want to hit 2,000 people. $50 this month. Waits $100,000. We're behind $100,000. So we want to hit that. Y'all money makes this possible.
Starting point is 01:36:18 Checks and money orders go to P.O. Box 57196, Washington, D.C., 20037-0196. The cash app is Dollar Sign RM Unfiltered. PayPal is RM Unfiltered. Venmo is RM Unfiltered. Zelle is Roland at RolandSMartin.com. Trump ain't sh**. Did you know that Trump wanted the military to actually shoot
Starting point is 01:36:43 Black Lives Matter protesters? I mean... Trump is not s***. He let people die during COVID and then told us to drink bleach. He tried to kill the stimulus bill and couldn't, so he delayed the money just so he could put his name on the check.
Starting point is 01:36:58 Trump ain't s***. He used a death penalty to execute Black men, like Brandon Bernard. He f***ed up Obama's economy, lost thousands of black jobs. He started inflation and gave his billionaire buddies a tax cut. America, Trump ain't s***. Don't vote for that man. Nothing but s***.
Starting point is 01:37:18 Vote Kamala Harris for president. Here's a 78-year-old billionaire who has not stopped whining about his problems. Oh, she had a big crowd. Oh, the crowd. This weird obsession with crowd sizes. It just goes on and on and on. America's ready for a new chapter. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris.
Starting point is 01:37:51 I'm Kamala Harris and I approve this message. Wrongfully convicted. Five teenagers were arrested, tried, convicted and sent to prison. Men were exonerated. What he did to us, he tried to end us. Of course I hate these people. So-called Central Park Five. Calling for execution. And let's all hate these people cannot have this man go into office again I want society to him we were innocent kids the confessions were
Starting point is 01:38:14 caused today we are exonerated that guy says he still stands by the original guilty verdict this is about democracy being on the ballot. I have absolutely no compassion. Look at Kamala. She represents the kaleidoscope of the human family. There's something different happening in America. We will get the opportunity to build a future where we will be able to thrive and not just survive. In 2016, Donald Trump said he would choose only the best people to work in his White House.
Starting point is 01:38:47 Now those people have a warning for America. Trump is not fit to be president again. Here's his vice president. Anyone who puts themselves over the Constitution should never be president of the United States. It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year. His defense secretary. Do you think Trump can be trusted with the nation's secrets ever again?
Starting point is 01:39:07 No. I mean, it's just irresponsible action that places our service members at risk, places our nation's security at risk. His national security advisor. Donald Trump will cause a lot of damage. The only thing he cares about is Donald Trump. And the nation's highest-ranking military officer. We don't take an oath to a king or a queen or a tyrant or a dictator.
Starting point is 01:39:28 And we don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator. Take it from the people who knew him best. Donald Trump is a danger to our troops and our democracy. We can't let him lead our country again. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message. Jill Stein, Green Party candidate for president. So why are Trump's close allies helping her? Stein was key to Trump's 2016 wins in battleground states.
Starting point is 01:39:55 She's not sorry she helped Trump win. That's why a vote for Stein is really a vote for Trump. Jill Stein, I like her very much. You know why? She takes 100% from them. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message. Daddy, what's mom's come home? How am I supposed to tell her? I get it.
Starting point is 01:40:44 The cost of rent, groceries, and utilities is too high. So here's what we're going to do about it. The cost of rent, groceries, and utilities is too high. So here's what we're going to do about it. We will lower housing costs by building more homes and crack down on landlords who are charging too much. We will lower your food and grocery bills by going after price gougers who are keeping the cost of everyday goods too high. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message because you work hard for your paycheck. You should get to keep more of it.
Starting point is 01:41:10 As president, I'll make that my top priority. It's really rich for Democratic leaders to say that Donald Trump is a unique threat to democracy when he peacefully gave over power. He is still saying he didn't lose the election. I would just add to that. Did he lose the 2020 election? Tim, I'm focused on the future. That is a damning non-answer. America, I think you've got a really clear choice of who's going to honor that democracy and who's going to honor Donald Trump trump disastrous that's what independent news sources and conservatives are saying about project 2025 it would threaten hundreds of thousands of jobs
Starting point is 01:41:51 give massive tax breaks to big oil and roll back protections a dream for them a disaster for you winners never back down from a challenge champions know it it's any time, any place. But losers, they whine and waffle and take their ball home. Trump now refusing to debate a second time. He did terribly in the last debate. He's so easily triggered by Kamala Harris. Well, Donald, I do hope you'll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage.
Starting point is 01:42:21 If you've got something to say, say it to my face. I'm Kamala Harris and I approve this message. Remember four years ago, black unemployment was over 10% and Trump told us to eject bleach. But when Biden and Harris got into office, they invested in America. They took on inflation and corporate price gouging. Now last year, black unemployment dropped below 5%. And Kamala's not stopping there. As president, she'll continue to take on corporate greed and put cash back in your pockets. Kamala has a plan to make our lives better. Vote Kamala Harris for president.
Starting point is 01:42:59 The overturning of Roe almost killed me. I had a blood clot in my uterus that caused my labor to have to be induced because of the overturn of Roe v. Wade. I wasn't able to get life-saving treatment sooner. I almost died. And that's because of the decision that Donald Trump made. I was able to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I'm proud to have done it. The doctors and nurses were afraid that if they treated me in the incorrect way that they would be prosecuted for that.
Starting point is 01:43:31 And that's appalling. Donald Trump says that women should be punished. Do you believe in punishment for abortion? There has to be some form of punishment. For the woman? Yeah. I believe that women should have reproductive freedom to make the choices about their own bodies. Four more years of Donald Trump means that women's rights will continue to be taken away one by one by one by one.
Starting point is 01:43:54 This has to stop because women are dying. I'm Kamala Harris and I approve this message. Kamala Harris has never backed down from a challenge. She put cartel members and drug traffickers behind bars. And she will secure our border. Here's her plan. Hire thousands more border agents. Enforce the law and step up technology.
Starting point is 01:44:17 And stop fentanyl smuggling and human trafficking. We need a leader with a real plan to fix the border. And that's Kamala Harris. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message. He told us who he was. Should abortion be punished? There has to be some form of punishment. Then he showed us.
Starting point is 01:44:37 For 54 years, they were trying to get Roe v. Wade terminated, and I did it. And I'm proud to have done it. Now Donald Trump wants to go further with plans to restrict birth control, ban abortion nationwide, even monitor women's pregnancies. We know who Donald Trump is. He'll take control.
Starting point is 01:44:55 We'll pay the price. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message. I've had Steelers season tickets since I'm seven years old, man. Me and my dad, that's our thing. Here we go, Steelers! Here we go! Kick it! I was a seven-year-old with a little mullet, just like a Pittsburgher should have, with a Cordell Stewart jersey on, sitting at Three River Stadium watching in 1995.
Starting point is 01:45:18 Steelers win! A yinzer. I define it as somebody that bleeds black and gold, works hard, cares about their family and their hometown. Donald Trump does not care about the working man whatsoever. This guy's not looking out for my family. Talking about giving tax breaks to billionaires? And he's going to sell out working families to pay for it.
Starting point is 01:45:40 Cut our health care. Cut our Social Security. He's a little rich kid too, he ain't me. Little silver spoon boy Donald Trump. How is he relatable to me whatsoever? The guy literally lives in a country club. Do I look like a country club kind of guy? I'm Kamala Harris and I approve this message.
Starting point is 01:46:00 Hatred on the streets, a horrific scene, a white nationalist rally that descended into deadly violence. You will not replace us. White people are losing their damn lives. There's an angry pro-Trump mob storm to the U.S. Capitol. We're about to see the rise of what I call white minority resistance. We have seen white folks in this country who simply cannot tolerate black folks voting. I think what we're seeing is the inevitable result of violent denial.
Starting point is 01:46:31 This is part of American history. Every time that people of color have made progress, whether real or symbolic, there has been what Carol Anderson at Emory University calls white rage as a backlash. This is the rise of the Proud Boys and the Boogaloo Boys. America, there's going to be more of this. This country is getting increasingly racist in its behaviors and its attitudes because of the fear of white people. The fear that they're taking our jobs, they're taking our resources, they're taking our women. This is white fear. Philly tough is different.
Starting point is 01:47:22 They insult us. Bad things happen in Philadelphia. Bad things. They don't like us. Bad things happen in Philadelphia. Bad things. They don't like us. We don't care. Because here's the thing that people like Donald Trump don't understand. We're Philly. F***ing Philly.
Starting point is 01:47:36 And when you fight us, we fight back. From 1776 to 4th and 26th. So go ahead. Talk whatever s*** you want, Donald. We're voting soon. And when it comes to freedom, Philly's undefeated. Trump devastated black businesses. Efforts to save small business from the impacts of the pandemic have largely missed black-owned companies. I applied for the PPP. We didn't get any help.
Starting point is 01:48:01 The big companies, they didn't have to wait. They got their money. People like me were still waiting. My plan is give startup small businesses a $50,000 tax deduction. Right now it's $5,000. Nobody can start a small business with $5,000. So that's my plan. Paid for by Black Voters Matter Action Pack. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. A yinzer, I define it as somebody that bleeds black and gold, works hard, and cares about their family and their hometown.
Starting point is 01:48:31 Donald Trump, his plan is going to have me pay more taxes than a billionaire. It just angers me. He's going to make life way harder on working families. Kamala Harris, she's going to bring prices down and make health care cheaper. This is our kind of town. She's our kind of president. I'm Kamala Harris, and I approve this message. Black Star Network is here. Oh, no punch.
Starting point is 01:48:55 I'm real revolutionary right now. Thank you for being the voice of black America. All momentum we have now, we have to keep this going. The video looks phenomenal. See, there's a difference between Black Star Network and Black-owned media and something like CNN. You can't be Black-owned media and be scared. It's time to be smart. Bring your eyeballs home.
Starting point is 01:49:18 You dig? you Thank you. This is an iHeart Podcast.
