Rotten Mango - #180: Robert’s “BDSM” Dungeon Parties & Murder

Episode Date: July 13, 2022

Welcome to the BDSM Dungeon party. If you’ve never been or if you’ve never heard of such a thing - you might think it sounds scary But it’s not scary at all. In fact, it can be very fun if that...s your thing. Bob’s favorite part of the dungeon party? Well, he couldn’t choose, was it the giant orgy room in the center of the building, or the crosses that you can tie people to, maybe it’s the playrooms where your deepest desires come true. This type of party is normally a great time between consenting adults but Bob had other plans. He didn’t care about the BDSM community - all he cared about was murder. Starting point is 00:00:32 Welcome to this week's main episode of Rotten Mango. I'm your host Stephanie Sue, and welcome to the BDSM Dungeon party. If you've never been or even heard of such a party, it sounds kind of scary, doesn't it? Bondage, discipline, dominance, and submission Dungeon Party. But it's actually not scary at all. In fact, it can actually be really fun if that's your thing. That was Bob's thing. Bob's favorite dungeon was this 7,500 square foot facility with a giant orgy room in the center of the building. There were crosses on the wall to tie people up, toys, whips, chains, machines that you attach dildos to. There were separate play rooms for different kinds of play. What are you into? Wax play,
Starting point is 00:01:20 bondage play, there's a room for it. You think even prepare me for this? Just to explain this. And when you're done and when done correctly with the holy trio of BDSM, what do you think the holy trio of BDSM is? Oh boy. Roaps, candles, and I guess smack it. I don't know. smack on the ass.
Starting point is 00:01:42 It's actually safe, sane, and consensual. That is considered the holy trio of BDSM. So it's really a nice community. They have that at the forefront. It's normally a great happy time amongst consenting adults. But in Bob's dungeon, it wouldn't be a fun time because there was a killer amongst them. And it had nothing to do with their interest in BDSM.
Starting point is 00:02:07 As always, full show notes are available at RottenManglePodcast.com, but there is a fantastic book on this case called The Saddest and The Hitman by George Hunter and Lynn Rosenthal. This book is honestly the best in-depth look that you'll get in this case. The episode won't even come close. It's incredibly well written. The authors were up to date on the case from the moment that the news broke of the murder. George Hunter personally interviewed the news sources, the local law enforcement officers that worked on the case, and I really think that everything was represented very accurately and very impartially. Now, of course, BDSM is going to be a huge topic of discussion, and you'll see throughout
Starting point is 00:02:47 the book, I really like that the author was not judgmental at all. He did not jump to conclusions about the BDSM community, he didn't try to make it out like there's some dangerous group of a sexual sadist, he just seemed really well informed, and it is a really big part of the story. So I highly recommend you go pick up a copy, but with that being said, BDSM in the True Crime world reminds me of a great deal of Satanism. Okay, that's a loaded sentence. I feel people are getting riled up already, but just like hold onto your whips, hold onto
Starting point is 00:03:21 your satanic bibles for one second. I think they're similar in the sense that if anybody in a true crime case is involved in either, if they've ever Googled Satanism just one time, if they had a book on it in their basement, or maybe they went to a BDSM party once 20 years ago. The whole case is suddenly about BDSM and Satanism. That's true. Yeah. And it's like, no wonder they're a killer. They're a Satanist. No wonder they're a killer.
Starting point is 00:03:48 They're into BDSM. That literally could not be further from the truth. Instead of trying to understand why a horrible crime happened, it's so easy for some people to be like, well, they're into bondage, so they must be into murder. I mean, what kind of leap is that? Satanists are not out here sacrificing children in the woods, and the BDSM community is not out here just salivating at the thought of whipping you while you walk past them.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Okay, it's just not. To me, it sounds as ridiculous as saying, if you smoke cigarettes, you're a filthy little pyromaniac arsonist. You like that fire, don't you? It's like, I don't even understand. BDSM is actually not about pain, did you know that? I just learned this, this is crazy. It involves pain, and typically it's, yeah,
Starting point is 00:04:35 between fully-consenting adults. That's the only way you can do it, who get pleasure from what they're doing. And yes, pain is part of it, but it's more about consent, exploration, power, humiliation, and yes, pain is part of it, but it's more about consent, exploration, power, humiliation, and the pleasure that can actually come from all of those things. And the only way to really get pleasure out of those things is to create like a safe environment, so that somebody feels like they can be brought to the point where they
Starting point is 00:04:58 let themselves go to really feel all of these almost taboo subjects that people don't want to talk about. And typically speaking, you do have two roles, kind of. I guess that's super simply speaking, but you have the DOM, this is a person that's more dominant. Typically they're varying levels of sadist, so they get off on inflicting pain, but only if the other person is consenting.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Does that make sense? Like they're not out there watching videos of like cats getting run over. That's not their vibe. And then you have the submissives, subs. A lot of them have massacistic tendencies, meaning they get off on physical pain. A dorm on Reddit did an AMA, which like side note, I thought they would be too tight up to do a Reddit AMA. But okay. But they, okay, sorry. He said it's very important for people to
Starting point is 00:05:48 understand that submissives are not doormats. In fact, subs hold the power in a correct BDSM relationship, in a true BDSM relationship, because subs are the ones giving the dogs a chance of power. That's right. But at any moment, they could say, yeah, I'm not really into it anymore and walk away. And then the dog would have no power. They would have no sub. Yeah, but the dog can walk away too. At any moment, be like, okay, bye. Yeah. Over. Yeah. It's the true. It's the true. But I do think that there's a lot more doms than more subs I feel, maybe. Could be the thing. I mean, just because some subs choose to give up
Starting point is 00:06:30 some degree of their free will and their personal power to another does not mean that anyone can control them. This is something that bothers me a lot. And you can see this, yeah. I spent like two days going on the BDSM subreddits. I'm just saying don't do this around your family because there's a lot of videos on there. There's a lot of pictures, a lot of gifts, but sometimes you'll see people come in
Starting point is 00:06:54 and I don't think that there are actual BDSM community members because they get dragged in the comments and they almost assume anyone that's submissive is going to be their submissive. Wait, one more time? They just assume that anyone is submissive is almost like a free plaything for them as well. But that's not how it works. Like submissives choose their dorm. I see.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Just because someone submissive doesn't mean they're interested in doing it with you. Yeah, it's it's really, you know, it doesn't make sense. Now, a lot of subs are also men and women who have alpha personalities in other aspects of their lives. This is kind of a way, you know, we've all heard the stereotype of the big CEO banker and he suddenly goes to a dominate,
Starting point is 00:07:34 tricks and wants to be whipped at night. It makes sense, because this is a way for them to let go and recharge after a long, hard day of making decision after important decision, after important decision. So most submissives are super strong and capable people, but they choose to do this lifestyle because they like the dynamic and it's fun.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Besides, dorms have to earn the trust of their subs. The dorm on Reddit said, submission is a precious gift and it should be treated as such with honor and respect at all times. Because the relationship between the DOM and the SUB at the end of the day, it's a relationship. It's not a monogamous one, most of the time, sometimes it is. It's not a traditional one, most of the time, but it's a relationship. It doesn't even necessarily have to be romantic, but it's a form of a relationship. So it needs to have a level of respect shared between the two.
Starting point is 00:08:27 So with that and things like aftercare, oh my gosh, aftercare. So after all of these scenes is what they call it, or their play. They will typically have the dawn in the sub bond. It involves nurturing any sore body parts of the sub. If they were tied up, it's massaging of the wrist, maybe a nice bath. Just taking care of the sub mentally and physically, because they can be such a draining, exhaustive process. And then even talking about what parts of the activities that they liked didn't like, how they felt, what they want next time, what they don't want.
Starting point is 00:09:03 Which like, I'm sorry, I feel like everyone in a relationship, whips and chains are not, should be doing this. Yeah, I feel like this is like 10 times more intimate than... Ben just regular vanilla sex. Exactly. Right? It seems like it's there mentally and physically way more connected. And more caring. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Because like vanilla sex, you know, you got the other person just rolling over. And you're like, all right, well, I guess I'll just like, wobble over to the bathroom now. No, but the problem with the BDSM community is like that of any community. Bad people are always going to find their way in to benefit their evil wishes. I mean, this happens everywhere.
Starting point is 00:09:45 You have the predators working at schools. You have the nasties, the predators working at churches or trying to become a church leader. You're always just gonna have a bad person trying to take advantage of the community. And that was Bob. Bob wanted to be part of the BDS in community, because well, he felt he deserved to have a
Starting point is 00:10:06 house filled with female sex slaves. A dungeon really. He wanted a dungeon filled with female sex slaves that he could abuse and nothing was going to stop him. Bob'sColorMe.com profile was your master T. He wrote in his bio, welcome to my world. I'm master Bob, skilled in BDSM, I will open, train, and guide you in this lifestyle. Neil and have all your desires and cravings open to you. Are you ready for master Bob?
Starting point is 00:10:36 As for being a Dom, I train several. Meaning he's not going to be a Dom to just one sub. He wanted them all. This guy's already envisioning himself with a harem of woman essentially, and this comes into play later. Now, it was through this profile that Bob meets his first submissive, who he would later call his slave. She would live in Bob's dungeon, cleaning up after his BDSM parties, and Bob's dungeon was in the basement of a building that he owned.
Starting point is 00:11:04 On top of it was a very popular bar called the Hard Luck Lounge. I mean, after hours Bob was just rushing a bunch of people into the dungeon, and in the end his sub would clean the mess left behind and sleep in the next room. The main problem? Even at these parties, Bob didn't care about the Holy Trio of BDSM. He didn't care about safe, sane, and consensual. He repeatedly violated those rules and he just did not care. He was busy focusing on this new dungeon facility that he was going to build with one of
Starting point is 00:11:34 his friends. A big giant open orgy room in the middle of the building. Playrooms, eight bedrooms for overnight guests, and was going to have this Sibian saddle, Sibian saddle, it's a masturbation device consisting of a saddle like seat like you would put on a horse but it has this mechanical rotating vibrating mechanism attached to a rod and the rods could be outfitted with different dildos. Listen, I still don't know what it looks like in my head. Should I Google it? Oh, okay,
Starting point is 00:12:06 it's exactly what I thought it would be. Yeah. So that was like his dream, right? But until that was done, Bob had other things that he wanted to do. For example, Bob blindfolded his sub and another woman. A new woman he had just introduced to his sub, you know, hey, sub, meet this random woman, I just met. He drove them blindfolded to an undisclosed location and when they got there, he led the two women into the bedroom and demanded a threesome. Now Rachel, his sub was upset. She did not want threesome's. This was not part of their deal.
Starting point is 00:12:38 She never consented to this, but because it was just this high pressure moment, they were in this random house that she'd never been and she just felt like she had to say yes she didn't even know where she was. So she said yes she went along with it and when it was all said and done Bob demanded that Rachel sleep on the floor next to the bed while he cuddled this new woman on the bed. Now Rachel felt violated this again she's a submissive but this is not what she signed up for this is not the BDSM that she wanted. This, again, she's a submissive, but this is not what she signed up for. This is not the BDSM that she wanted. This is not part of the deal.
Starting point is 00:13:10 She was hurt, but Bob didn't care. Bob watched her lay on the ground, crying herself to sleep while he cuddled another woman, and he just thought to himself, you know, good thing my wife's not home. Could you imagine what her reaction would have been? She would have been so upset. Well, soon I won't have to worry about it, because she'll be gone. And I can finally fill the house with female sex slaves.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Bob's background is pretty unexpected, if I'm gonna be honest with you. Bob Bashara came from a line of very well-respected and accomplished men And it all started with his great grandpa George George Bashara Immigrated to the US from the Ottoman province of Syria now This was when like there was still hope for the American dream and George was determined to make it happen He was like I'm gonna go to America and I'm gonna give my kid an amazing life So he and his wife moved to Indiana. They have their first child
Starting point is 00:14:07 George the second who becomes a prominent attorney. I mean he really made his immigrants parents proud like this was their dream You know if you have immigrant parents they would be over the freaking moon This is what they want for everyone a lawyer or a doctor. That's it, those two. Now, George was smart. He went from the first grade to graduating high school in just eight years. It usually takes 12 years. He skipped full four whole grades, essentially. And English wasn't even his first language.
Starting point is 00:14:37 And at just 20 years old, the guy graduates from law school, he becomes a prominent attorney and Detroit Michigan. He buys a house in the nice area of Gross Point Park, which is a super upscale Detroit community. So yeah, sounds like George the second is really something special, right? Super accomplished. Wait till you hear about his son. George the third. Really named it?
Starting point is 00:15:00 Yeah. George the motherf***er third was born to outdo his dad. Like that seemed to Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, But George III went on to win elections to be a judge. He became the youngest judge in the history of the Michigan Court of Appeals at 33 years old. He served as president of the Detroit College of Law, sat on the State Advisory Commission on Drug Abuse and Alcoholism. He even launched a program called Drug Day, which I get it. There's not many things you can name a drug program to teach kids not to do drugs, but I feel like Drug day. It's just I don't know. I'd be like what's on the menu like drug day? Not even say no to drugs drug day But George would bring middle school students into his courtroom and essentially parade around defendants whose lives were ruined by drugs and
Starting point is 00:16:03 For good measure, he would send the middle schoolers to the county jail to be scared to get this. It kind of worked. Yeah, it kind of works, yeah. When you're that young. I was, I was, I was play some really horrifying video. When I was in school. And it worked.
Starting point is 00:16:16 It worked. Now, all of this would later become incredibly ironic. Because George's, George the third son, and I wonder if the family regrets not naming him George the fourth, because I don't know, maybe he would have carried the legacy on then. Who knows? But his son's name was Robert, but they called him Bob. Drug Day was ironic because George's son Bob, like, snorning lines of cocaine on the golf course. That was his thing. That was his jam, A hole in one right into the nostril. And
Starting point is 00:16:45 he would never be as hardworking as his father or his grandfather or even his great grandfather. Now even though technically out of all of the men in the family, Bob was set up for the best success. Like his dad is wealthy. At this point, the family has been in the US for generations. English was Bob's first language. She had privilege, connections, everything. Even Bob's mom Nancy, she came from a well-off family. Her family owned a lucrative financial research firm, as well as a very successful catering company. So both parents are rich.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Bob literally could have been one of those successful people that goes around saying, I'm self-made. No, I really am. The only help I ever got was a small loan from my father to the tune of $7 million, but I paid it all back. You know what I mean? I did my own business, built it from scratch. But he didn't even want that.
Starting point is 00:17:35 He wanted everything handed to him. He just wanted the $7 million in cash as a present. Now Bob's personality from the get-go was described to be controversial. Even as a kid, some adults who knew him would say, oh he's a good kid! Other adults would say, the kids are fucking lazy cheat. He's constantly getting into trouble, he's no good. It's unclear which ones the truth are, maybe a little bit of both. Bob says he did have a pivotal moment growing up though.
Starting point is 00:18:06 A moment that would later change his whole life. He was what? Maybe six, seven years old, before he even hit puberty. One of his good friends comes over. It's called Bill, Bill and Bob. They're playing around, exploring Bob's big old house and gross points. And on the third floor, there's a maids room of sorts. Now, I don't know if there was a housekeeper living there. Maybe it's an empty guest room, but they go into the bathroom and they start messing around in the bathroom. And in the magazine rack was a bondage magazine. And the boys being boys, they read every page of that thing. And they claimed that they had no idea that the magazine was sexual to any degree. They probably thought it was something funny or fun. Hence why they found some clothesline and stripped down to their underwear, bill laid on the bench and Bob tied them up. He tried
Starting point is 00:18:55 to recreate the bondage scenes in the magazines. How old were they? Like six or seven. I mean, that makes sense. Yeah. So they did fail miserably, but they couldn't stop cracking up because they felt like it was hilarious. Bob later said that he would think about tying up girls the same way that he had tied up Bill that day. But that wasn't until later. He said for decades, he really didn't think about kinky sex or bondage. He was busy doing other things, one of which did not include studying.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Unlike everyone else in the family, Bob really just did not have any academic success in school. He did not care to study, even when he graduated with subpar grades and no actual life goals, what does his little daddy do? His daddy rewards him by co-signing the deed to a two-story house that would be Bob's first rental property. He's a fricking landlord. He just graduated high school. The guy's a landlord already. I'm sorry, what? That's crazy. So Bob goes to college, studies economics and management, and he starts dating a fellow college student. Priscilla Langs. No, this is very interesting. Priscilla's dad was a prominent attorney in gross points, and the two kind of Russian to marriage, like immediately married. I genuinely think it's because both parents were like,
Starting point is 00:20:05 oh this is too good. Let's unite our families and become the most powerful attorney family that ever existed in this area through this marriage. I think the kids were pressured. Bob was 23, Priscilla was 21, and within the first year of marriage, they filed for divorce. Just kind of fell apart. So what does Bob's daddy do? He rewards him again
Starting point is 00:20:27 by gifting him a restaurant called the wooden nickel. It was going to generate cash flow for Bob to live off of. And at this point, Bob's dad had already helped Bob purchase a few more rental properties. So just after graduating college, he has a failed marriage, no work ethic, no dreams, no aspirations in life, but he's just handed rental properties and restaurants. You would think that Bob would be a bit ashamed. That is daddy did everything for him. He'd be like a little bit embarrassed, like, no, no, I work really hard though, you know?
Starting point is 00:20:58 No, he's out there embracing it. He was hardly the definition of humble, the guy loved bragging. He bragged anyone that was around him, not just people he knew, sometimes to random strangers that would strike up a conversation. He always somehow made a way to squeeze in his rental properties into a conversation. Imagine you're in the elevator with Bob, just picture this. You say, oh, this is awkward. So you say, man, the weather is sure is nice. Oh, yeah, the weather's so nice that one of my tenants that lives on one of my various properties that I own, what he was telling me that the weather was so nice that he was going to go to the restaurant that I own. Yeah, I know. I own it. CEO, best burgers in town town Anyway, he's telling me that he's going and he's taking his whole family there because the weather's so damn nice
Starting point is 00:21:49 Oh Okay Well, this is my floor have a good one. It's like you really squeezed it in a way where it was so obvious What he was doing and you're just like what is going on? So the guy just talked about how big of a big shot he was. He also loved to volunteer. You're like, what? That doesn't sound like Bob. It's not. Bob did it so that he could brag. Honestly, he wanted to be like, I'm a philanthropist. And everywhere he went, you can bet your dollar that Bob would bring up somehow in conversation.
Starting point is 00:22:22 His rental properties, his restaurant, his success, and his charitable volunteering and donating. Always. Now, most people they hate this talk. Dude, you're out of party. Just get drunk. Have fun. You don't need to be talking about this right now. But one person who fell for his talks was a woman named Jane.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Jane Engelbreck was born in a middle-class family in Detroit. Her dad was a Korean war veteran and her mom Lorraine was really adamant on teaching kids on how to be good people. So basically from the moment that Jane could walk and talk she was taught to be organized. She was taught to be active. Like this bullet is she was a smart cookie. I don't know if it was parenting. I don't know if it was genetic maybe it don't know if it was genetic, maybe it was both, but she was just doing it all. Girl Scouts, national honor society, she had a 4.0 GPA, played tennis, volleyball.
Starting point is 00:23:11 She just always wanted to be on the go, busy, busy, busy doing something all the time. She hated being bored, she hated being disorganized, she wanted to be responsible. She started planning her 401K before she got a job. That's awesome. Yeah, that's how goal-oriented this woman was.
Starting point is 00:23:29 She got her masters in business administration. And in the coming years, she was promoted year after year at every company that she worked with, till she was making about $150,000 a year. I mean, she's a corporate baddie, a very successful business woman. And maybe that's why she got along well with Bob. Maybe at the time, he seemed like a fresh breath of air, someone who didn't plan and micromanage every part of their lives, someone who just
Starting point is 00:23:55 lived. Maybe that was Bob. Bob loved Jane because Jane was still loving and kind. He said, I was attracted to her from the beginning. She just has this good heart, and a thick bank account, which couldn't have hurt. Bob was more interested in her money than someone might think. You see, Bob had rental properties that he constantly bragged about. Oh, and his dad even recently added another investment to his portfolio, commercial real estate that would later be rented out to an oyster bar and the hard luck lounge, a popular gathering spot. Just remember this lounge for later, but they weren't doing well. And you're like, what the heck? Why does his dad keep buying him property if they aren't even
Starting point is 00:24:34 doing well? Well, his dad straight up was like, I'm hoping it just sets him up for life. He said, and I quote, when you play the game of monopoly, the person with the most property wins. He said, and I quote, when you play the game of monopoly, the person with the most property wins. Just spoken like a true capitalist. I don't even. So Bob can't support himself off the cash flow of the investments because they're not doing well.
Starting point is 00:24:54 So does he get a job? Not really. I mean, he sells some industrial cleaning products on the side, but he doesn't really put his whole back into the job. It's just not as glamorous as calling himself a landlord So a lot of the times Bob to save face with his dad He would go to his mom and borrow money But maybe he wouldn't have to anymore if he married Jane and our high-paying corporate job could fund his lifestyle
Starting point is 00:25:17 So after two years of dating he pops the question Jane says yes They go on their little honeymoon and they come back to Detroit and start upgrading their lives. Upgrading their car they purchase a nearly 3,000 square foot five bedroom colonial style house in Gross Point Park. The most exclusive neighborhood It was around $700,000 the house which side note apparently the exact street that the house was on was set to have a lot of Italian mobsters living there. For example, convicted mafia boss, Anthony Zarelli lived there, just like right down the street.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Is that safe then, right? I seem safe. Right, because I don't know. They wouldn't bring business home. Right. It's got to be a very secure environment for their family. Yeah, but what if it's like a drive-by and they get like the house number wrong? It's kind of confusing.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Why would you break into these apartments? For money, for drugs, whatever was in there? Why aren't you afraid of getting caught at doing this? No. Who's going to catch us? What a police. It was the height of the crack era and instead of locking up drug dealers, some New York City cops had become them. I would suit up in my uniform and we're gonna want some drug dealers and I know how to do it really well.
Starting point is 00:26:41 This is the inside story of the biggest police corruption scandal in NYPD history and the investigation that uncovered it all. Did you consider yourself a rat? 100% I saved my soul just like everybody else does. Listen to and follow the set, an Odyssey originals documentary podcast series available now in the Odyssey app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your shows. I'm not a big guy, man, but I love being that 30 motherf***er. There were two other reported mobsters on the street, Peter Carrado and Tony T. Toco. So a lot of geez.
Starting point is 00:27:20 They lived down the street and Bob liked it. He was like, I want to be friends with all of them. I want to be part of the mafia. So the first step was to become popular in the neighborhood. He really is in his desperate housewives' era. That's what it's giving. He's trying to be the gathering spot of all the parents of all the mafia bosses on the street.
Starting point is 00:27:37 He would host these block parties. So he literally will out, we'll out a grill in front of his house, set it up. And then people would start making their way over. He'd start mingling with the guests and would just get someone else to do the work. He would sometimes flip a burger or two for show, but that was about it. One time for Fourth of July, he got James mom is in law to cook hot dogs in 95 degree heat while he walked around greeting everyone like he was the fucking president. And everyone else is just did staff members.
Starting point is 00:28:06 Jane's mom had a heat stroke that day. No freaking way. Yeah, does Bob care? No, he's the type to go around saying, wait, what, my mother-in-law had a heat stroke? Tell her to walk it off, catch some shade. Anyway, you go home, you tell your buddies that big bob through the best fourth of July party in the points Kind of worked everybody in the area loved big bob and his wife Jane and their cute little two kids Honestly from the outside they seemed perfect the type of family that you might wish to be adopted into they held big charity events
Starting point is 00:28:39 They volunteered during the country club Bob would actually become president for a while of the prestigious Lockmore Country Club for golf. Jane seemed to genuinely care a lot about the Detroit community. She wanted to give back. Meanwhile, Big Bob, he just wanted to let everyone know how much he cared. Little bit of a difference. He loved this little Big Bob persona that he had. He even bought a Lincoln Navigator with his wife's money. Okay, so and the license plate said big Bob with two B's at the end. Big boob. So like he's that guy. But could he really call himself big boss? Big Bob, big baller shot
Starting point is 00:29:21 color? I mean, listen, there is nothing wrong with the woman being the breadwinner of the house. I think whatever works in the family works in the family. Regardless of who's the breadwinner, if it's both of you, all three of you, I don't care. But if big Bob is out here, do we know this talk? I would imagine that he would bring in some money, right? Maybe not as much as his wife, but some money, right? He was in debt. His rental properties were barely breaking even. He was a shitty landlord,
Starting point is 00:29:50 tenants referred to him as a slum lord. He never fixed anything in the houses. If something went wrong in house A, for example, he would go bully tenants in house B into paying rent early, and then he would go use that money from tenant B to go repair house A. But instead of getting a plumber or a contractor to do the job right, he would hire someone that he knew that had no idea what to do. So imagine your friend Kelly is a cashier and you're like, hey, can you go fix this guy's toilet for 20 bucks? What?
Starting point is 00:30:19 And he would pay them a lot less money. But in the end, it would break again and it would have honestly been a lot cheaper to get it fixed right the first time. I know, it's confusing. Tenants complained that Bob was also incredibly hostile towards them. He would randomly evict people and then sue them for back rent that they didn't owe. It was terrifying though because everyone knew that he came from a line of successful lawyers. They're all wealthy so they're shitting their pants like, Are you kidding? I don't know you money, but now you're just like freaking me out.
Starting point is 00:30:47 He would get up in their faces and say, you have no idea what I'm capable of. You better hope I don't find out that you're trying to leave without paying me. Since Bob has no money, he has to constantly beg his mom for money. And even then, Bob still wanted to build his real estate empire. So he keeps buying more and more and more properties, and he starts using Jane's credit to get the mortgages, which resulted in Jane's credit being trashed, and honestly she's the only one holding the entire house up. The interesting thing is that, Jane knew her credit score was going down, but Bob always gave her a good excuse, and since the two of them they never shared a bank account. So Jane thought that Bob was doing somewhat okay.
Starting point is 00:31:25 I mean, he talked a big game about his rental properties. Sure, she paid most of the bills, and for their dates, and for all the gifts. But Bob was investing into his business again. That's why. It's not because he wasn't making any money, it's because he was reinvesting it. Well, in 2006, she thought, I should probably retire. I mean, I've been working so long. My kids you know they're getting grown up and I never really got to spend
Starting point is 00:31:50 time with them. This is my chance. So she just quit working. She quit her job. I thought it was a good idea. And then Bob Panicked. It was like Jane you you got to go get another job because I owe the IRS more than $30,000 and I borrowed another $30,000 and I borrowed another $30,000 from my mom and I need to pay her back. So I'm in debt like $60,000 and that's not even including all the mortgages that we have. Like we gotta, you gotta work. So barely a year into retirement, Jane was forced to go back to work. She wasn't even mad about working again. She was mad at Bob for being so careless with money and keeping things from her.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Now that she knew everything, the two of them tried to fix their abysmal financial status, they re-mortgage their house several times to pay off all these other loans and all these other debts. They were close to $800,000 in debt at this point. And Jane was upset. She started complaining to her friends about it it and I mean, rightfully so. She would tell them, Bob lies so much.
Starting point is 00:32:48 It's impossible for me to trust him. I mean, it's crazy. Even after all of this, he still had the audacity to ask me to withdraw $10,000 from my 401k. He said he had a business idea. A business idea. I mean, Jane's been planning her 401 case since before she even had her first job. There's no way she's going to take any of that money out unless she absolutely. She's like about to lose a kidney. That's when she's taking the money out. So of course, Jane told Bob, no, but Bob knew all her
Starting point is 00:33:20 passwords. So he went into her account against her wishes and withdrew the $10,000 anyway. Jane felt so betrayed. She went and changed every password of every account that she had and she was confused. Where on freaking earth is Bob's blowing this kind of money? I don't even understand. It didn't make sense. She paid the bills. She's trying to pay off these loans. What did he need? Well big Bob was big on spending. He was spending to upkeep his image.
Starting point is 00:33:50 He's gambling, splurging on designer goods, drugs, oh he loved drugs. But even then, Bob's fraudulent lifestyle is bound to get exposed. With all of Bob's other financial commitments and priorities, like cocaine, Bob inevitably fell late on his country club membership dues, where he was president and he was kicked out. So, it's a bit of an embarrassment. So I guess no more snorning lines on the golf course. And that's not the only part of his persona that was falling apart.
Starting point is 00:34:20 There were some serious rumors starting to spread. That big Bob is not someone you want around your kids So Bob has a little sister and she wasn't really important to the case up until this detail this comes up So his little sister has kids these would be his nieces and his nephews, right? Well Bob had allegedly molested his five-year-old niece his own niece According to the five-year-old niece, she said, Uncle Bob had her play the jumping game. Essentially, he was naked, only in a bathrobe, and he forced her onto his lap and forced
Starting point is 00:34:55 her hand between his legs. And then he spanked her for no reason, and when she cried, he insisted that she liked it, and wanted her to admit that she secretly enjoyed the spanking and wouldn't stop until she admitted that she liked being spanked. But according to Bob, the five-year-old had a vivid imagination and she was making it all up. He never molested any of them. Had his nieces and nephews seen him naked?
Starting point is 00:35:20 Yeah. Did he wrestle them on the bed? Also yeah. Did he inappropriately touch his knees? Yeah, but it's different from molestation. He didn't molest them. What? Yeah, that's what's said. Yeah, I don't know how he thinks it's different,
Starting point is 00:35:38 but that's what Bob argued. I believe the five-year-old, why would she even lie about something like that? Kids lie about not eating the cookie off the counter, they don't lie about assault. So around this time, which is alarming, Bob also claims he found his love for BDSM again. Yeah, and I think that's a straight-up lie. Just all lies. I don't think Bob was ever into BDSM at all.
Starting point is 00:35:59 I think he's a predator, I think he's a sadist. He doesn't care for the community, he doesn't care for what it stands for. He wants to find a vulnerable woman to abuse. He wants power, he wants respect, without ever earning an ounce of it. And that is not BDSM folks. Now that's Bob's little story. He said that around this time,
Starting point is 00:36:20 he was on a gambling website called betus.com. I don't know if it's bet us, bet us. And he saw this pop up ad for alt.com and call her me.com. Now both of these are BDSM dating websites. I believe call her me.com is down now and alt.com is filled with spam bots. Listen, I know it sounds like I'm on those sides. Okay, really, I did a deep dive into the BDSM community, just so I think I'm getting it right, but I think Caller Mia is down. Anyway, Bob claimed he clicked on these ads to see what it was about.
Starting point is 00:36:55 He was intrigued because he's very outgoing and had a dominant personality, he said. And he starts reading about these women who were submissive, who were seeking a dominant or a master who's compassionate, skilled at flogging, bondage, or whatever they were interested in, and he was interested. He claimed his sex life with his wife Jane was dead. I mean, of course, he claimed that. He said, and I quote, my weight was a problem. I was heavier than I should have been. As a result, I developed diabetes, high blood pressure. And Jane, well later in
Starting point is 00:37:30 life, when she turned 45 years old, she started showing signs of menopause. So from both of our standpoints, the physical relationship just diminished. We both had our health issues. We were both getting older. We're progressing into our late 40s, 50s, and you know, several times Jane looked at me and said, listen Bob, you do what you need to do to take care of yourself. I understand that we're not compatible and I'm not prepared to satisfy you from a sexual standpoint. I just ask that whatever you do, you don't embarrass me or the family. So according to Bob, Jane gave him the green light to cheat as long as he was discreet and didn't embarrass the family.
Starting point is 00:38:11 I don't know if I believe this. Jane's mom and sisters were shocked when they heard this claim. They said there is no way and hell that Jane would have been okay with an open relationship. I think personally that she wasn't okay with it, but I do think that she probably had an idea of what he was doing. Or maybe she was trying to figure out what to do about it, because she complained to a friend that Bob had tried to take her to a key party once. A key party is fascinating. It's where there's this big bowl, and everybody throws their keys into it. You go up and you take out a pair of keys keys and you have sex with whoever's keys those are. Or if you go to take out your keys, someone can have sex with you. Like as long as you consent. I think there's like different variations of a key party, but essentially it's like swinging because you're bringing your partner. And when Jane talked
Starting point is 00:38:59 about it, she was really upset and embarrassed. She was telling her friends like, I'm so mad at Bob, I can't believe that he's doing this. Now, I do think that Jane was aware to what was happening to some degree. Not to the extent that it was, but I think she was aware like he's exploring. Also, really, what the fork is that? Bob wanted to get sexual gratification outside the marriage, but he couldn't even perform inside the marriage. He had erectile dysfunction. And Jane would say to our friends, Bob's a big flirt, but it's all show because he can't even get it up. Bob would say, I'm a hot blooded 40-year-old male. I did have erectile dysfunction, but you still get urges. You're still able to have orgasms. Listen, erectile dysfunction is a serious matter, and I'm not trying to laugh at it but like I hate Bob. Now anyway allegedly with Jane's blessing Bob starts fulfilling his urges. He starts
Starting point is 00:39:49 going to these things called munches which are lunch discussions with people of the BDSM community. And one of the main problems in the BDSM community that kept coming up over and over and over again were submissive women were often mistreated and taken advantage of, not by real domes, but just dudes that want to control a woman, dudes that don't understand that in reality, subs hold the power, and they just think that they can have a play thing to do their laundry and sexual stuff with.
Starting point is 00:40:20 So Bob decides, get this, that he is going to be the benevolent father figure in the BDSM community in Detroit. He wanted to be the protector of these poor women that were being taken advantage of. He said, I started understanding what these women were going through. They were being abused, treated poorly, in the name of the lifestyle. So I felt like it was something that I could, I could try to learn and help them with. Bob literally wanted to abuse women. He was literally the guy that he was warning girls about.
Starting point is 00:40:50 And through callermy.com, he found his first sub, Venita Porter. She would later say, Bob was looking for someone to be a sub and I needed food and shoes for my children. Now, from my limited understanding, I know that BDSM is not a sugar daddy, sugar mom of business, but Bob and Veneta,
Starting point is 00:41:08 they came up with this agreement of sorts. Veneta would live rent free at one of his rental properties. Bob told Veneta that he was married, but it's an open relationship, don't freak out. We're actually planning on getting divorced soon, but the kids need to graduate high school. We're only starting together for the sake of the kids, which like how many times have we heard that one?
Starting point is 00:41:27 That's kind of crazy. So really, it wasn't that alarming to Veneta because a lot of the people in the BDSM scene were in open relationships. And she doesn't know the real Bob yet. And on top of that, again, we don't really know where Jane stands on any of this, but Bob made no effort to hide Venita like none.
Starting point is 00:41:47 He brought her along to his little volunteering events. They worked on community projects together. She went to the Rotary Club meetings with him. Venita would go to church with Bob and Jane every Sunday. What? Yeah. She went to Bob's kids volleyball games. She helped Jane set up kids birthday parties. Yeah, so she was really
Starting point is 00:42:08 Integrated into the Bashar a family life and again I don't know what Bob told Jane or what Jane thought of Anita was this Bob's new assistant Was it a family friend a long-lost family member a widow who he was just taking in because he loved volunteering It could have been one of Bob's wild lies or did he tell her the truth. We don't know. But we know that the needle was always around and the kid said, yeah, we had no idea
Starting point is 00:42:33 that Dad and Veneta were ever in like a relationship. We had no idea. So after Veneta moves in us his sub because he lets her stay at one of his rental properties, Bob helps her get a job and gives her an allowance. And it's just the whole thing is strange. Bob, the guy that can't even keep his own finances together is helping someone and guiding someone on their finances.
Starting point is 00:42:56 And in return, Vanita is teaching Bob a lot about the BDSM scene. Although he's the quote, dumb, he really knew nothing about BDSM. Multiple times, Bob would choke Vanita to the point where she felt dizzy, bordering unconscious. This is not what she wanted. She's not comfortable with this. And when she voiced her concerns, he would just say, oh my god, I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:43:17 And then a few weeks later, he would try it again. This literally goes against BDSM. This wasn't even the last time that Bob was overly aggressive with women. Sometimes he would be hanging out with his golf buddies. These are the ones that know he's married with Jane. These are the ones that know he has kids. And Jane wouldn't be there because she's working. And he would just randomly bring up in the middle of a casual conversation that he really
Starting point is 00:43:42 loves spanking women. And everyone would just get a bit awkward Because like what do you want us to say to that? They try to brush it off and he would try to bring it up again But it wasn't just family friends he was doing this too. It was like family too Bob would be on his little family computer Tucked up in a way watching BDSM porn and browsing BDSM websites just casually his high school daughter With just a few feet away
Starting point is 00:44:05 in the living room. What? So one time she looks up and she sees what her dad is looking on, and she's freaking out. Like, what the hell are you doing, dad? And he calmly tries to explain to her. Listen, I'm only watching BDSM porn because I have a rectile dysfunction.
Starting point is 00:44:20 I'm trying to test a theory here. If I really have a rectile dysfunction, then seeing these porn videos is not going to get a boner. But maybe, maybe your mom just isn't doing it for me. I'm trying to see if the problem is me or your mom. It's traumatizing for your kid. Oh, you're kidding. Who on earth thinks that's a good idea to tell anyone but alone your teenage daughter? Suggestica the daughter is obviously upset. She tries to forget about it, but not too long after, she finds a text message on Bob's
Starting point is 00:44:52 phone. He had sent it to one of his subs. And it read, get on your knees and give me head bitch. And Jessica shocked. She converted her dad like, who are you cheating on Mom with? Like why are you sending women these text messages? And he's like, what are you talking about? Let me see it.
Starting point is 00:45:09 And she gives him his phone and he starts aggressively tapping away at the screen and he pushes the phone back in Jessica's face saying, look there's no message, message gone, what are you talking about? I mean, who does that? Who does that? And when Jane found out about all of this, she told her friends, just wait till Jessica graduates from high school.
Starting point is 00:45:28 If he wants out of this, he can get out of this just fine. But it kind of seemed like an empty threat. So behind Jane's words, you know, there were a lot of hurt, there was a lot of anger, but I think that Jane wished that this was a phase. They'd been married for what, 26 years now. I mean, it's... She hoped that Bob would change, maybe this was like a midlife crisis.
Starting point is 00:45:48 She urged him to try marriage counseling together, and during a session the couple was instructed to write down a list of why they fight. Jane's list was so heartbreaking. It said, Bob makes plans and doesn't tell me, and I can't trust what he says anymore. But she was still there. She was still there at every therapy session making an effort. She really just was someone that didn't give up on people, even when they deserved it. Meanwhile, Bob and Venita's relationship is fizzling out.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Bob starts talking to several other potential subs at the time, and he claimed Venita is too clik-y. That's what Bob said. But Venita said, no, it was weird, it was confusing, because Bob made it seem like we were in a relationship. Our catchphrase for our relationship was, it's you and me against the world. Doesn't that make it seem like we're dating? But then one night out of nowhere, Venita came home to her room next to Bob's dungeon, and Bob was there with a blonde woman that she'd never met. And without skipping a beat, Bob suggested they have a threesome.
Starting point is 00:46:48 And Venita was shocked. She said, absolutely not this is not what I wanted, just because I'm a sub doesn't mean you can treat me like this, I'm not doing this. And when Bob realized that he couldn't convince Venita into this, he took the blonde woman, Rachel, into the dungeon, slammed the door in Vanita's face, and she was too upset to leave, also she had nowhere to go. So instead, she sat there for hours while Bob and Rachel were inside the dungeon doing god knows what, and Vanita said it was the lowest point in her life,
Starting point is 00:47:19 because after he came out, she begged him to stay with her. Or at least begged him to not kick her out, to not do this to her. Rachel and Bob stared at her while she was sobbing, and he did not care. He took Venita's keys, kicked her out. Is three in the morning, Venita had no where else to go. Master Bob said he was finished with her. And the new blonde woman, Rachel, would be his new slave. Rachel was 47, divorced, and had two kids.
Starting point is 00:47:49 She moved from Texas to Michigan, and she said that she had no idea what she was in for with Bob. They met on alt.com, and at first Bob told her that he was a widower. For a few years now, he was raising his teenage daughter alone in this world, and it's just so sad. So the two of them, they they start talking online and when Rachel mentions that she had another date with another Dom in the community since she and Bob were far from exclusive or even close to an agreement Bob just flips out on her like wait, who oh that guy don't see that guy Rachel He's an absolute sadist. He's so hard. She's so rough. You're gonna be scarred emotionally and physically
Starting point is 00:48:25 Listen, I'm not a jealous person, I'm not. Not by nature. I'm just trying to warn you, Rachel. I'm trying to protect you. There's too many predators in this community that just want to take advantage of you. Bob claims Rachel went anyway, and the next time Bob saw her, he claims she had bruises all over her body, a black eye and a puffy cheek.
Starting point is 00:48:46 He claimed she cried in his arms and said, you were right, I'm so sorry. And this is more alarming. Bob said this was the moment he was attracted to Rachel, which like, that's so alarming. He said he felt like he needed to protect her, and he was attracted to her for that. Also side note, dominance of relationships differ according to personal preferences. It's like a regular relationship. Like some people like, you know, something in a relationship, some people don't. Bob was into harsh whippings.
Starting point is 00:49:16 And Rachel didn't like physical pain. A lot of people think that BDSM is really about physical pain, but a lot of the subs in the community like psychological pain more. They like the humiliation, they like the degradation, like that's kind of what they're into. And Rachel was that person. She said she liked being treated like a submissive, told what to do, have someone in charge of her, tell her her schedule, what to wear, what she was allowed to do, things like that. For example, in emails, she would refer to Bob with capital letters, and she would only refer to herself in lowercase letters. So when she
Starting point is 00:49:50 wrote slave Rachel referencing herself, she would never capitalize Rachel or even slave. It was always lowercase. But when she referenced master Bob, even if she was saying, hey, you, she would capitalize the Y and you. And anytime she said me, it was always lower case, right? Now listen, these are Rachel's preferences. I'm not going to judge, but I'm just showing you like this is what Rachel likes. She liked the psychological aspect. But Bob didn't care for that as much. He cared for dishing out harsh whippings.
Starting point is 00:50:20 So typically, these two would not mesh together. But Bob wanted to make it work. And Rachel felt bad for Bob, the widower, you know, he worked so hard to be a single dad to a teenage girl that can't be easy. So they try to make it work. But one day out of curiosity, Rachel Googles Bob Bashara. Turns out the guy's wife is not dead. She's very much alive, and not only that, she's very much in his life, hosting parties
Starting point is 00:50:45 with him volunteering together. So Bob tries to backtrack and say, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm sorry I lied. I meant that we are getting divorced. We are already separated, but I lied and said that she was dead to protect my family. I want to keep my lifestyle and my family separate, you know? Yeah, that makes sense. That's why you watch Bondage porn in the living room. Got it.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Bob claimed. I don't know why Rachel was so mad. Honestly, we weren't even having an affair, me and Rachel. The absolute basis of my relationship with her was master and slave. She wasn't my girlfriend. And anytime we went anywhere, we interacted as master and slave. So it's not really an affair. Yeah, the mental cartwheels on this one. Imagine like sitting your wife down and like trying to explain that. Yet he moved Rachel into one of his apartments and started taking her to social events. He would introduce her to all of his mutual friends with Jane. Like obviously he's not like, oh this is my mistress.
Starting point is 00:51:40 You just say this is a friend who's helping me with business. Still weird. The closer the two got the more that Rachel realized that Bob was lying at first his wife was dead Then she wasn't and then it was all where 100% separated and the divorce is being finalized Then it was well We're separated, but we still live together because of our kids But we don't have sex at all. We don't even sleep in the same room. We live completely different lives and But we don't have sex at all. We don't even sleep in the same room. We live completely different lives.
Starting point is 00:52:05 And then one day Rachel came over and saw Bob sleep apnea machine in the primary bedroom. And then all of a sudden it was, okay, okay. We do sleep in the same bed, but we sleep with different covers so we don't touch each other. And Bob just kept promising Rachel that he and Jane were going to get divorced.
Starting point is 00:52:23 It was over. It was never gonna be, it was never to work between them anyway, because Bob was a dominant personality. And so was Jane, which like side note, I don't think Bob was a dominant personality, because being dominant isn't just about wanting to be bossy and telling people what to do in having control and physically being dominant. Being dominant is providing for yourself, your family having self discipline, literally having your life put together so that you can take on another human that might depend
Starting point is 00:52:52 on you. That's dominant. I don't know what you're talking about Bob. You just like to slap people. That's not dominant. Like if Bob himself doesn't have his life together, how is he truly going to be dominating over someone else? What's he going to teach us?
Starting point is 00:53:06 How to get $500,000 in debt and how to cheat on your partner? Like, what are you doing? Okay, anyway, sorry for the rant. So Rachel tries to leave the relationship multiple times, but Bob would straight up harass her until she got back together with him. He would even go as far as calling Rachel's own kids begging them, okay, can you let your mom talk to me please? I can't even blame Rachel at this point for not leaving, because I can't imagine the length of emotional manipulation that Bob put her through.
Starting point is 00:53:32 And then there was the ring, the frickin' ring. It wasn't even an engagement ring. Bob didn't propose. It was a family heirloom of Bob's, a diamond ring. The heirloom had actually been passed on to Jane. Bob's great uncle gave it to Jane and she wore it. She really thought it was such a special heirloom. She was her prized possession.
Starting point is 00:53:52 Even Jessica, the daughter, was allowed to wear it only to big events. But one day, they'd bring just vanishes. Jane and Jessica have no idea where it went. They definitely didn't suspect that Bob gave it to one of his subs. But he did. And Rachel accepted the ring. I mean, it's a diamond ring. And that Christmas, Bob gifted Rachel a diamond necklace.
Starting point is 00:54:13 Another family heirloom. I mean, this guy is going above and beyond to keep Rachel. He said, yeah, I mean, I was lying to her about the divorce and stuff, but I let her on, absolutely. That's just, what a great guy. So let's be clear again, Bob being an asshole abuser predator manipulator should no way reflect the BDSM lifestyle. Okay, back to the story. He wasn't even adhering to the lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:54:36 In fact, Bob was becoming a menace to the BDSM community in Detroit, or really any community. For example, a prominent BDSM dominant, his name was on Patrick, well established in the area. He was hosting this huge swingers party. So he hosted a lot of BDSM parties, but also a lot of swingers parties. Now, he said very different. Swinger parties, or at least this one,
Starting point is 00:54:59 is more about sharing partners. It's very sensual sex. It's about dancing, it's about having fun, and maybe multiple partners at once. It's not BDSM, it's not about humiliation, it's not about domination, it's not about control. It's a much more tame of a group, Patrick said. But Bob and Rachel show up, and Bob ties up Rachel
Starting point is 00:55:20 in front of everyone and just starts going to town on her with a belt and The swingers are shocked They're like, okay, this is like too much. What's going on? Patrick comes over and tells one party. Yeah wrong party, bro He's like toe it down not this one the BDS and party is like next Tuesday Just toe it the fork down Bob's like okay Ten minutes later Patrick looks over Bob is running a giant samurai sword around Rachel's body, teasing her with it, and threatening to poker with a samurai sword.
Starting point is 00:55:53 And all the swingers are like, we gotta go. This is so scary. You imagine you swing with... Yeah, you're like, I'm so terrified. Yeah, take me home right now, husband. Now, Bob did not care. He just bragged about how he's big Bob and he volunteers and has houses everywhere. And that's kind of the only reason that Patrick agreed to build a large building. With Bob, they were going to have, you know, a huge 7500 square foot warehouse essentially
Starting point is 00:56:20 that was going to host giant BDSM parties. This is the one with the giant orgy room. Honestly people were excited. Bob promised to pay close to I think $40,000 of the construction fees. Patrick was really counting on him, but Patrick paid for everything and Bob, well he had other things on his mind. Which side note, this isn't that important to the story, but it's confusing. Patrick said that during his BDSM parties, singles were allowed, but they paid a higher fee than couples. So singles, I think they were paying like $120 per night, which is pretty expensive, right?
Starting point is 00:56:52 And there would always be a single man. And it's not even the same man, just a single man, that would pay, and instead of participating, and instead of, you know, kind of going with the flow, they would just be furiously masturbating in the corner of the room. And it would just make everyone so uncomfortable. So Patrick would have to ask them to leave. Or there would be single guys who would be so creepy, they would watch a sub get hurt, like getting whipped. And they would just get super close to her face and go does it hurt? Which More of the story single men are really just out here being a menace to every community even the BDSM community
Starting point is 00:57:36 So Bob would show up to some of these parties Patrick would try to play nice with him They would strike up conversations and it kind of always led to Jane It seems like all Bob wanted to talk about was how annoying his wife was, how he had to lie about going to golfing, to come here, and then one day Bob jokingly told Patrick. Sometimes, I think it would just be cheaper to kill the bitch, except it wasn't a joke. Bob was frustrated in his life. He wasn't satisfied with his wife, he wasn't satisfied with his affair, he wanted another slave. Bobb's dream was having a household with multiple submissive women.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Basically, he wanted a hair-arm. But like, he couldn't even finance his own life. What are you saying, dude? Side note, even Rachel made more money than him. And again, nothing is wrong with one person making more money regardless of gender, but Bobb is a misogynist. So for years, he's kind of, you know, had this in the back of his mind, but after a while he decided he need to make his dream a reality, so he comes up with this plan.
Starting point is 00:58:34 He's going to buy a house, preferably in points. Rachel would move in to serve us his full-time slave, and they would find a second female sub to live with them. Bob would rule as the master of the house. And of course none of this would work if Jane was in the picture. He couldn't just fill on live somewhere else. So what's the solution he came up with? Jane had to die.
Starting point is 00:58:57 Why couldn't he divorce her? Well, she had that 401k that was close to a million dollars. I guess he assumed that he would inherit all of it. I mean, even if he did, he's still owed close to a million dollars. I guess he assumed that he would inherit all of it. I mean, even if he did, he's still owed close to what? 500-800-1000 dollars. His kids would be entitled to some I would imagine. I mean, the whole plan and the whole idea is just absurd. Killing anyone is absurd. But in this situation, like, you know, we've talked about people killing for insurance, killing their spouses for insurance. But Bob really had no plan. He just kind of assumed that he would get this money.
Starting point is 00:59:30 And with that assumption, he starts shopping for a new house, a new submissive woman to live in the house with them, and a hitman at the same time. Which side note, the real estate agent hated Bob, one time she was showing Bob a house with a wine cellar, and Bob started making comments about how this would be a great dungeon. And the agent was so uncomfortable, and later Bob said, you know what, you seem like you would be very submissive. And she had a look in the eye, said, you don't know me well then. Meanwhile Rachel, under Bob's orders, was on alt.com looking for another sub to move in,
Starting point is 01:00:07 and she said, we are looking for a special girl, a third to round out our relationship, someone who would live with us full time on a permanent basis, who is free to commit to being part of our loving, nurturing, male-dominated home. Master Bob is the head of our relationship relationship and you must relocate to us. You must be willing to obey his directions concerning finances, health issues, and self-growth. Rachel didn't want this by the way. She didn't want to share Bob, but she found out that Bob had been flirting with other women and she thought, she said, I actually kind of thought maybe this would help him be more faithful. He assured me that if we brought another person into the relationship that two subs would be enough and he would stop chatting with all these random women.
Starting point is 01:00:51 Like just another example of Bob clearly blatantly violating the rules of BDSM. He did not care for mutual pleasure. He pressured women into letting him do what he liked. That's not dominant behavior. That's as hominipulator and you can't tell me otherwise. He even got into Rachel's head by promising her that he and Jane were now officially divorced. And that's why he's able to go house shopping with Rachel.
Starting point is 01:01:15 But no divorce papers were filed, I mean, he's lying through his teeth. Bob repeatedly undermined and humiliated Rachel, but not in the ways that she was okay with. She said, Bob didn't want a traditional relationship. He told me that if he had two women at home, he wouldn't go on those websites. So I believed him. And Bob was really selling her the dream. He said he was going to call their future house, the cottage.
Starting point is 01:01:39 And he sent her a letter that said, I want to paint a picture for you, Rachel. I've had in my head for a couple months now and I'll be ready to move out soon. And I keep going back to my thought of the cottage. I think I might name it that. And we begin, you and I, except there's one change. You're no longer working. You're helping me manage the rentals.
Starting point is 01:01:59 Also, there is the ability to help me with my other businesses and telemarketing. I know by your efforts, you can make us at least 12 to 17,000 more a year. You're going to keep the house and serve me as you've tried. For the most part, your life is calm. You can do as you please during the day. You would serve me as my submissive and slave, but most importantly, as my lady and my woman. As for the poly situation, I will leave that up to you.
Starting point is 01:02:24 If we find someone that's perfect, great. Like he made it sound like he was super chill, but he wasn't. He's actively looking all the time and he even starts talking to a woman named Janet. They met on alt.com and her username was master girl for you. And honestly, she was reluctant about talking to Bob. I mean, she lives in Oregon. She has a pretty good life. She doesn't want to relocate to Michigan. But Bob is reeling her in with his divorce sob stories. He even convinced Janet to change her username from mastergirl for you to master sleigh for B.
Starting point is 01:02:55 If she was messaging other guys, he would message the same guy and be like, don't talk to my property. And it was so uncalled for it. It wasn't even a fun thing. Like other dorms are like, what's wrong with this guy? That's not how we do things. Bob started talking about how if Janet moved to Michigan,
Starting point is 01:03:12 he could take care of her, because he always takes care of his subs, which like with what money, Bob, with what money? And for Christmas to seal the deal, Bob sent her a $25 gift card to Olive Garden, and an old T-shirt that he slept in for about a week in a small strand of leather. He wrote two letters.
Starting point is 01:03:29 Slave Janet. It is my help and wish that you have a wonderful Christmas. This gift is a strand of leather that's a symbol of my ownership of you. You are to wear it wrapped around your left wrist. You are not to wear it around your neck until I am there to place it there myself, calling you as mine. But, calling you as mine, but just know you are mine, slave, and serve me wonderfully. Master Bob.
Starting point is 01:03:51 Another letter said, my slave, Janet. This is my shirt that I have worn next to my body for three days. It has my scent and is sent to you to sleep and keep near you. When I come to see you, I will replace it with another one. You are mine. This is so you will feel me. I remain master Bob, your master and man." And with that, Bob was ready to buy the house. He got alone and his closing date was set for January 27th of 2012. And by then, Jane would be dead.
Starting point is 01:04:20 While there how is shopping, Rachel, the original sub is wanting proof that Bob is actually divorced, right? Before she commits to moving in. And he would tell her, I'm your master and your man, you must trust me. Do you not think that I will protect you always? I am the master and if you are my true slave, you must trust me. You are my slave. You are my girl and you do not like to make decisions so do not make decisions and kneel before me.
Starting point is 01:04:46 And then Bob flew out to meet Janet for the first time. She picked him up, they bought a cow whip and some rope, and Janet thought that she was getting into some light bondage and light whipping. But Bob just came up behind her and started choking her without warning. She passed out cold. When she woke up, Bob said, well little girl, you should have told me I was getting bad. You could have used your safe word. I could have really hurt you.
Starting point is 01:05:10 And then he whipped her really hard. She said, I wasn't expecting that. I was... He was beating me half to death. That's not what I wanted. I nearly passed out. It was awful. I didn't even know what I was getting into.
Starting point is 01:05:22 Janet said it was terrifying. And when Bob gets back to Detroit, he's calling up anyone and everyone and asking them, not suspiciously at all. Hey, you know anyone that will rough up someone for some money? I got this tenant. That's just making my life miserable, you know?
Starting point is 01:05:37 You know anyone that can take care of her? Someone that'll just run her over, or maybe T-bone her, a hit and run? And that's how Bob met his hitman, Joe Gets. So Joe was a physically big guy. He had a mental disability and a short fuse. He's 6'4", 225 pounds, blinded his left eye, and throughout his life he was diagnosed with a whole range of mental disorders.
Starting point is 01:05:58 Bipolar disorder, intermittent explosive personality disorder, organic mood disorder, he just was explosively angry at times. He had suicide ideations. But friends of Joe said that at the end he was always kind. He's all big, goalable, easily manipulated. Joe was the type of person that wanted to be friends with everyone. If you treated him like crap, he was the type of person that would try even harder to impress you. Honestly, I think that he just had a really shitty life. I don't know how else to phrase it. He couldn't hold down a job.
Starting point is 01:06:29 He couldn't really do anything. He was married twice, had a kid. CPS took the kid away. So anyway, fast forward to Joe. He's looking for a job. And a friend of Bob's sent Joe Bob's way. Hey, I know Joe. I know Bob.
Starting point is 01:06:43 Bob might be hiring. So Joe, go talk to my friend, right? And Bob did. He had Joe fixing up the tenants water heaters, the toilets, and while he's fixing it up, Bob would stand over her shoulders saying things like, hey, I'll give you five grand and knock out my wife. And Joe would just laugh, but Bob kept bringing it up. He's like, how much to do a hit and run on my wife? I can do, I can pay you five K. And Bob is so fucked up. He's like, how much to do a hit and run on my wife. I can do I can pay you 5K. And Bob is so fucked up. He was asking to others, seeing if he could get access to really strong blood thinners. Why? He wanted to feed it to Jane so her blood was thin. She would
Starting point is 01:07:15 get into a car accident and she would bleed more severely. But eventually Bob decided against the hit and run. But he was feeling the heat, you know Rachel's getting angsty, threatening to leave again. The house closing date is coming up. So to calm her down, Bob steals James $10,000 engagement ring and gives it to Rachel. For the past 26 years, unlike Bob who never wore his wedding ring, Jane wears her all the time. Every single day, she looked everywhere for that ring. And when she couldn't find it, she went to work that morning and Bob started blowing up Joe's phone non-stop. You better come over this evening, 6 p.m.
Starting point is 01:07:50 exactly I need your help. And then Bob went to the hard luck lounge, sipped on some drinks, and oddly, when he got up to leave around 6 p.m. he told the bartender, I'll be back in an hour. Okay, this is weird because Bob owns the building of the hard luck lounge, but he doesn't own the actual lounge. So these aren't his employees.
Starting point is 01:08:07 And he never informed anyone of his comings and goings. So they're like, why are you telling me that? So 6 p.m. Joe and Bob make it to Bob's house and Jane is there. He leads all three of them to the garage. Jane doesn't think anything of it. She probably thinks that Joe is here to help clear out the garage that she asked Bob to clear out like months ago.
Starting point is 01:08:26 But suddenly, according to Joe, Bob pulled out a gun, pointed at Joe, and started nodding his head at his wife, saying, shut her up, do it now. Joe claimed he was so scared for his life, he felt like it was him or Jane, one of them was going to die. And Bob was allegedly screaming, take her out or I'm taking you out. The garage door was shut, Joe felt trapped and so did Jane. Joe said he hit Jane on the back of the neck and wrestled her to the floor as she called for Bob's help.
Starting point is 01:08:54 But instead of helping, her husband of nearly 30 years screamed at Joe, choke her, take care of her. And they struggled. Joe said he stomped on Jane's neck until it broke. No, there was nothing but death and quiet. Bob instructed Joe to put Jane's body into her Mercedes SUV. And Joe said it was weird.
Starting point is 01:09:16 When he picked up Jane's limp body and her shirt had popped open a bit, Bob walked up, adjusted her shirt so that it wasn't open and told her, I'm sorry baby. And then he turned to Joe and said, you'll get the ring, you'll get $10,000 in cash and you'll get a Cadillac. I'll pay you.
Starting point is 01:09:31 Don't worry about it. I'll catch up with you later, but don't fuck up. Don't tell anybody. Joe drove Jane and her car to an alleyway near an abandoned house and just left it there. Meanwhile, Bob went back to the hard luck lounge to solidify his alibi. On his way there, he even called James' phone. Nobody picked up. While he's even at the hard luck lounge, like his whole alibi setting thing is weird,
Starting point is 01:09:55 he announces to the whole lounge that he's going to grab a broom and start grooming, like sweeping the alibi. Because he owns the parking lot. Everyone's like, what? Bob? A broom? Like this guy's never cleaned in his life. Like the whole thing was just so bizarre.
Starting point is 01:10:09 So he gets back home and he notices that Jane isn't home. Now he claims he's not too worried because he figured she was out with friends. But around 9 p.m., there's still no Jane and he starts calling the police. And he's like, my name is Bob. I don't want to overreact and maybe it's too set into call, but my wife's not around. She's not answering her phone. It's been three hours, you know, I'm just a little bit worried.
Starting point is 01:10:32 And it goes on this whole ramble. He barely stopped to breathe. He's like, here's the deal. We talked about the working in the office to do the taxes. She called me at 4.30, said she was on the way home. I said, great, I probably won't be home till 7.30, maybe quarter to eight, because I own some rental properties. Yeah, he's even sneaking it into this conversation. Yeah, because I own some rental properties and I had some work that I had to do at one
Starting point is 01:10:53 of my buildings. Anyway, I got home around maybe 10 to 8 and she's not here. Now, I know she's been home since her backpack that she uses for work is here and the ID for her work building is here, but she, her car, and her purse are gone. And I called all her friends to see if she's visiting someone I called her brother and I called our kids to ask her to do. Nobody knows. Like, he's just rambling. And then he goes on another ramble, just confirming his alibi.
Starting point is 01:11:15 So then like 6 p.m. I was here and here it's like just bizarre. The dispatch is like, well, okay, we're going to take note of it. And if we don't hear or find anything out about your wife in the next hour, I'm gonna send an officer to your house and maybe you can talk to them. Bob calls again less than 10 minutes later. And he's like, so I call the hospitals.
Starting point is 01:11:33 And it's just like, yeah, he's doing a lot. Since the moment that Jane was murdered till the next morning, 8 a.m. when she was found, so maybe a little more than 12 hours. Wow, it's fast. Yeah, he called the police like 13 times. He also called all of his neighbors and were like, my wife is missing and I'm a concerned husband. Some of the neighbors came over and Bob gave them a tour of the house, which is very interesting because every room that he went into, especially in the basement, he would open the door wide open to each room and say, see she's not here.
Starting point is 01:12:08 It's weird. What does that mean? Like, he's trying to prove that her body is not here. She's not here. It's just really strange stuff. And all the while, I mean, imagine your wife is missing. You would be beside yourself, right? Yeah, you have a lot of calls to make. Maybe you, imagine your wife is missing. You would be beside yourself, right? Yeah, you have a lot of calls to make. Maybe you're calling the wife's family. Maybe you're calling
Starting point is 01:12:29 her friends. Anyone that would know where she is. Would you be calling your realtor to let you know that the closing of your house is going to be delayed because your wife is missing? Probably not. Like maybe if they called you and you ended up picking up, but like you probably wouldn't go out of your way to call them. Because like your life is falling apart, your wife is missing. So around 8 a.m. the next morning, Jane's body was found by a tow truck driver. Her face was bruised, one of her fingernails were torn. She had struggled and really fought for her life.
Starting point is 01:12:55 The police went to Bob's house to inform him about Jane's death. And according to the police, Bob did not cry. I'll keep barely had a reaction. He didn't even seem to interested in the details of the murder. He was more interested in talking about every single place he went to last night. Just unprovoked, giving them time, exact details, like just literally an alibi. That evening, Jane's vigil was held at Bob's house where he tried to invite his sub, and Rachel was like, no, that's horrible.
Starting point is 01:13:23 And at the vigil, Bob would tell anyone who would listen that he was done, he was sure that the murder was done by some insert racial slur in a car jacking gone wrong. Even at James funeral, when Bob saw reporters coming in with cameras, he pulled his hanker chief out of his pocket, leaned over and said, a better get me one of these. But he didn't say it and like, I'm going to cry so much, I better have one of these on hand. Like the reporters are coming, I better have one of these out. And he started drying, he's already dried Sahara desert eyes
Starting point is 01:13:56 and just putting on a show. He went against Jane's family's wishes, had her cremated, and wouldn't let her family have her remains. He instead decided family have her remains. He instead decided to keep her remains in the basement next to a box of BDSM sex toys. But to keep his public image, he went on interviews after interviews talking about how much he loved his wife. Well Rachel saw those interviews and she was shocked.
Starting point is 01:14:20 She broke up with him, caught off contacts, moved to Texas, and from Texas she tried calling the Detroit Police Department multiple times telling them the truth. You know, he doesn't love his wife, it's not perfect, he's abusive. And the police were like, what? We don't care. Just brilliant police work. The alleyway that James Carr was left, well it had cameras. But the police failed to secure the footage until it was already recorded over. And somehow the police lost Jane's clothes. Like that might have contained valuable DNA evidence and they just lost it. So you're like, okay, no evidence, how does Bob even get caught?
Starting point is 01:14:56 Well, he kind of did it himself. So Joe keeps calling Bob for money. So Bob thought, why don't I knock out two birds one stone? And he accused to the police that Joe was threatening his wife and like blackmailing him, anything's Joe killed his wife for some reason. And Joe hears about this. He turns himself into the police. He gets freaked out. And he confesses to everything, the conspiracy to commit murder, the hitman job, everything. If Bob had it named Joe, honestly,
Starting point is 01:15:20 it's hard to say if he would have been caught this quick. And like a week isn't quick, but you get what I'm saying with the amount of mess-ups that the police had. So Bob lawyers up and he's feeling heat. He asked a tenant named Paul to get him some drugs, and you know what, he's like, Paul, why don't we both benefit from this? You've got some people you hate. I don't want to go to jail.
Starting point is 01:15:38 Why don't we blame James murder on your enemies, and everybody wins? Bob called it two birds one stone. Meanwhile, Bob is telling everybody that he knows that this Joe guy is going to throw him under the bus and he said, do you know what this fucking guy is going to do to me? He came over to my house, looking for money, you know what I mean? I got to get to Joe. If I can't get to him, it's my life. Do you guys know anyone who can get to him? Okay, another hit. Bob hired a friend to kill Joe for $20,000. Bob paid the
Starting point is 01:16:06 first down payment and that day he was arrested. It was a police. It knew the friend was working with the police, yeah. And in the end, Bob cut a deal with the prosecutors. He pled guilty to solicitation of a murder charge. So this one, he pled guilty for trying to get a hit on Joe. And he was given to six to 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, Joe was sentenced to 17 to 18 years on murdering Jane, and he had a plea deal to testify against Bob. It would almost be a full year before Bob was charged with murder. The whole thing started April 2013. And Bob learned nothing because he tried
Starting point is 01:16:44 to get his inmate to find someone to kill the judge. The judge that was presiding over his case. Rachel ended up testifying at Bob's trial and the whole time he was tapping his heart as he gazed at her. He licked his lips while looking at her, and he simulated sucking on the stem of his glasses
Starting point is 01:17:01 like a blowjob. No. In the middle of his own murder trial, and the judge threatened to kick him out of he didn't start behaving. Yeah, he was found guilty of murder December 18th of 2014, and he said, this is wrong. I loved my Jane dearly. I did not murder her. I did not conspire with anyone.
Starting point is 01:17:19 I will never stop fighting for justice and truth till my hands are raw. Blood comes from my eyes and I take my last breath. The jury poisoning and media corruption of this trial blackened my eye and made me a monster. It was important to show the jury I didn't just go out and have an affair, your honor. Every night, me and Jane, we cuddled, we kissed. We were both getting older.
Starting point is 01:17:39 The love and caring never stopped. I was a hot blooded 40 something year old male. I did have erectile dysfunction, but you still get urges. You still have orgasms. And for BDSM, I just wanted to rescue women who were being abused in this lifestyle when all men wanted was rough sex. He was sentenced to life in prison. And in the end, Bob died in prison, August of 2020, at the age of 62 and you know what good riddance and that is the very bizarre story I don't I don't even know what to say Also, I do want to mention that I tried to do as much research about the BDSM community as I could not from like
Starting point is 01:18:20 Articles of psychologists breaking down BDSM because there were a lot of those but from the actual community I did frequent BDSM community the subreddit BDSM the Reddit was not as helpful, but there were a lot of good visuals I guess So I did see a bunch of reddit AMAs of Dom's and submissives and I hope that I didn't offend anyone I hope that I got everything as accurately as possible. I know it's different per person, but I just want to say, BDSM is another community that is so easily targeted. You know, they're seen as like sexually deviant people, but I know you guys are just nice consenting adults.
Starting point is 01:18:59 And Bob was not part of that community. And I hope you guys enjoyed this week's main episode, and I will see you guys on Sunday for the mini-sode. Bye. Bob was not part of that community. And I hope you guys enjoyed this week's main episode, and I will see you guys on Sunday for the mini-sode. Bye!
