Welcome to R-slash Am I the Butthole, where O.P. reports his own parents to child protective services.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Am I the butthole for being honest with child protective services when they were called on my parents? I'm a 16-year-old boy. I have a 13-year-old brother and two sisters, 12 and 9. Our parents are the kind of people who will help everybody who's anybody to the extreme. Usually, I'm the one who has to give up the most for that. Like, they'll let people stay with us when they're between homes or their house is getting work done, or someone's visiting. And I'm the one who always has to give up my room to guests if there's more than the guest room can fit. My siblings keep their rooms, and I usually will be sent to the living room. I went to my brother's room when we were younger, but not anymore, and there's no room for a
Starting point is 00:01:46 bit in there anyways. Sometimes we could have like 10 extra people staying with us for weeks at a time, especially if it's summer or Christmas. Money gets tight because guests never have to contribute, and space is super tight because we're all on top of each other. My parents say that being the oldest and having my own room are the reasons I need to give up my room when my brothers and sisters don't. Occasionally, a cousin or two the same age as my brother will share his room with him. But they share the bid and it's a really tight squeeze. When we started having people stay over more and more,
Starting point is 00:02:20 I just got my sleeping bag and moved into the basement with a few things. In 2025, there were three nights that I could have slept in my own, bed, but I didn't even bother. That's how bad it is. My dad's brother, his wife, and their three kids are living with us now, essentially. My dad's parents decided to come and stay for the summer, too. Then one of mom's friends started staying with us six weeks ago with her family. But then my dad's ex-stepdaughter and her family needed a place to crash, so they stayed. That meant that my room, the guest room, and the living room were full, as well as the basement, so I went to crash at a friend's house. When I was there, I told his parents, and his parents reported it to
Starting point is 00:03:03 child protective services, and reported that I hadn't had my own bed in months, and how I would get to my friend's house starving, because as the hosting family, we ate last at home. CPS interviewed me, and I was honest about everything. I told them why I went to the basement full time, about us eating last and everything that was going on. CPS warned my parents that they needed to have better accommodation, for the four of us. I think they have to work with CPS for a few months now on stuff, take some classes, and we need less people at the house. My parents wanted to know how CPS knew certain things, and I told my parents that I was honest with them. It pissed them off bad, and I told them they screwed me over all the time, so why should I care about the trouble they're in?
Starting point is 00:03:49 Does that make me the butthole? I'm spending most nights at my friend's house still, by the way. O.P., does reporting child abuse to CPS make you a butthole? No, it does not. This is neglect. This is a form of child abuse. I can appreciate your parents trying to be nice and considerate people to all these extended friends and family, but they have a responsibility to take care of their kids. They're literally not feeding their oldest son. CPS should nail your parents to the wall. You get an easy zero out of five buttholes, O.P. What I want to know is, Who are these guests that are coming into someone else's house, eating all the food, and then just watching the kids go hungry?
Starting point is 00:04:31 Am I the butthole for standing on business and ruining everybody's day? Me and three of my friends were supposed to be going to an event today. The event is about a two-hour drive from where we all live, so one of my friends was going to drive, and we were all going to ride together. Where I live, the temperatures are already well into the mid-90s, so I was already on the fence about going to the event, because it was going to be semi-outdoors. So my friend swings by to pick me up, and he has all the windows rolled down on his truck. He only lives a couple of minutes down the road for me,
Starting point is 00:05:03 so I figured he was just letting the excess heat out of the truck before turning on the AC. We drive about 10 minutes to pick up our other two friends, and he still hasn't turned on the AC. Okay, kind of weird. We get about 15 minutes into the drive on the way to the event, and I finally turned to him and ask if he was going to roll up the windows and crank down the AC. This mother effort says, we're going to be out in it all day, so we might as well get used to it. I tell him that I am not sitting in an un-air-conditioned vehicle and stop and start traffic for two hours, and that he needs to turn on the AC. And the other two people in the vehicle obviously agree with me, as we're all sweating through our clothes already.
Starting point is 00:05:45 He says something to the effect of, My truck, my rules, to which I tell him either turn on the AC or pull over and let me out. He tells me that he's not going to pull over and then we can just suck it up and deal with it. I tell him he can either pull the truck over or I'm going to jump out and find another way home at my first opportunity. He won't pull over, but about five minutes later, we're at a did stop at a traffic light and we're right next to the edge of the road. I tossed my seatbelt off and jump out the truck and start hitting back towards the last gas. station that we passed. About 10 seconds later, I hear my two friends in the back seat jump out and start catching up with me. Apparently, they were already on the fence about the event for the same reasons
Starting point is 00:06:29 that I was, and this was the last draw for both of them as well. We get back to the gas station that we just passed and call a lift to come get us and take us home. Our friend manages to make a U-turn and get to the gas station before the lift can pick us up and is trying to get us to get back in the truck saying he'll run the AC. and that we can still go. But at this point, we were all pissed off, hot, and felt nasty. So we just end up getting in the lift and leaving. We essentially ended up telling him that if he wanted to go, that he was going by himself,
Starting point is 00:07:01 which he ended up not doing. And now he's blowing up our phones in the group chat saying how we ruined the day. He insists that what we did was overly dramatic, but I feel like we just stood on business. Am I or are we the buttholes? So the guy defies a three to one vote saying his one vote trumps the other three. And the thing that he's digging his heels in over is, no, I believe I have the right to torture you people. I mean, mild torture.
Starting point is 00:07:32 It's just making people hot and sweaty. Like, why fight about that? Why would you want your friends to suffer? Just because you want to, I don't know, have a pissing contest and show everyone that it's your truck, so you're the boss around here? There's a world of difference between sitting in a hot, stuffy car for two hours versus being at an entertaining venue where you can buy drinks and, you know, sit in the shade, stuff like that. O.P., you get zero out of five buttholes.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I'm giving your dumb friend 1.5 out of five buttholes. Am I the butthole for refusing to attend my childhood best friend's destination wedding after they uninvited my wife? My best friend from childhood is getting married. He and his fiancee have been together for about seven years and planned a destination wedding. They wanted a smaller, more intimate wedding and decided to combine the bachelor and bachelorette party into a week-long trip. About a year ago, I was told about the wedding and was asked to attend. I was specifically told that both my wife and I were invited.
Starting point is 00:08:27 The only thing we would need to pay for was our airfare. Everything else would be covered. Over the last year, there were multiple conversations confirming that both my wife and I would be attending. Based on that, we requested and received paid time off from work, bought planes, tickets and started preparing for the trip. We bought clothes and other things that we would need for a week-long destination wedding. About a month and a half before the wedding, my friend told me there was no longer enough space for my wife. Apparently, she had been cut from the guest list and there was only room for me. He also mentioned that numerous other guests were upset. Some people had to
Starting point is 00:09:05 pay for their own accommodations elsewhere if they want to attend after previously being told they'd be covered, and some guests had their invitations revoked entirely because they were over capacity. I was honestly shocked. I told him that if my wife couldn't attend, then I wouldn't be attending either. I asked him what happened and why the situation occurred. I wanted an honest explanation. His response was basically that they didn't realize they had a capacity issue until invitations were sent out. I asked how that could happen if they already knew the venue capacity beforehand. He refused answer directly and kept saying that this wasn't about the guests because it's their wedding. I told them that while it is absolutely their wedding and their choice, they had set clear expectations
Starting point is 00:09:52 a year in advance and repeatedly confirmed those expectations. Now, after people had spent money, used pay time off, and made plans, they were changing things and expecting everyone to be okay with it. He and his fiance have taken no responsibility for the situation and instead blamed the guests for overreacting. He also told me that I was the only one making a big deal about not being able to bring my wife. To be clear, I never demanded that they re-invite her. I simply told them that if my wife wasn't welcome, I wouldn't be attending either. Am I the butthole for being angry about this and refusing to go to the wedding? To be super clear, the problem isn't that the wife is uninvited. It's that the wife got uninvited after they already burned money on tickets and paid time off and spent
Starting point is 00:10:40 money on outfits on all that stuff. I'm sure that if O.P.'s wife had not been invited in the original invitation, then everything would have worked out fine. But nah, OP's friend is a jerk. O.P., you get zero out of five butt holes. I'm giving your friend 2.5 out of five buttholes. I wouldn't attend either. I'd use my already paid for tickets and go on a nice vacation with my wife. Am I the butthole for telling my guests, it's better that they don't come to their wedding after they complained about our wedding too much? Our RSVP did. deadline was a month ago, and everyone responded to our RSVP, except for one couple. We really had to hound them to get any kind of answer from them. Yesterday, they sent us a message telling us they
Starting point is 00:11:22 are free to come, but alongside the reply, they sent us a long message about how cumbersome and expensive it is to attend our wedding, and how tiring the weekend for them will be, and how they probably will retreat to their hotel room for most of the day and stay for the ceremony and part of the dinner, but retreat to their room for the rest of the festivities. We were taken aback because we're paying for everything. Food, drinks, parking, we're also paying for everyone's accommodation, a very nice lakeside hotel. Their biggest expense would be to pay for the gas for the four-hour drive to the wedding and back. They do own a car. They also complained about the dress code, black tie, but they both own clothes that would fit the dress code. So they wouldn't have to buy new clothes. So they wouldn't have to buy new
Starting point is 00:12:09 clothes anyways, but they complained about that too. We read the message and basically told them that if coming would be so tiresome for them, it's better not to come. We said that we aren't mad at all, if someone can't make it or doesn't feel up to it and there are no hard feelings, but basically uninvited them. They're now angry at us and refused to speak to us, and we're thinking that maybe we were a bit harsh. Were we the buttholes? O.P., when they said that this is going to be a really exhausting trip and they're going to spend most of their time in the hotel room. What they really meant was they're going to use your hotel room that you pay for as a base of operations for their all expenses paid weekend vacation time at this lake resort. And they're going to spend as little
Starting point is 00:12:53 time with you as possible so they can spend as much time as possible hitting the spa and boating on the lake and visiting restaurants and having fun with each other instead of celebrating your marriage. Op, you get zero out of five buttholes. Your selfish friends get two out of five buttholes.
