Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to R-slash Am I the Butthole, where O.P. Toes Half the Cars in the Neighborhood. Am I the Butthole for towing half the neighborhood? My wife's side of the family has a summer apartment in the south of France in a gated community. All year, there's no parking issue. But in summer, ever since Airbnb came out, it's hell to find a parking spot since there's no allocated spot. There's a place with no clear parking lines. Imagine a big square of concrete, where everyone can park for free. I had the opportunity with three other neighbors to buy this parking lot, so we bought it last year.
Starting point is 00:00:34 We made six large parking spaces for our cars with lines and plate numbers in front of each parking spot, and we put a gate which is always open for the other neighbors to park there. You can park three to five additional cars there as well. Here in France, July and August are two months where almost everyone is on vacation. So Airbnb makes this place packed during this period. Last week, one of the neighbors who helped buy the parking lot with me told me that the parking spaces were packed, and he managed to park only one of his two cars on the unassigned parking spots. His parking spaces were taken, mine were taken, and the third neighbor spaces were also taken, as well as every free slot as well. So the neighbor put up a warning sign saying that parking is for residents only and not for anyone else.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Q two days ago, when I come home with my wife and kids from vacation, I drove by night to avoid traffic, and when I got there at 3 a.m., parking was packed, and I had no choice but to park 300 meters away from my own home. Next morning, we put up a large sign saying that cars in our assigned parking spots would be towed, and we texted every neighbor to ask for their plate so that we didn't tow a resident. The next morning, it was the same problem. So we closed the gate, called the police, and got everyone towed. Shit hit the fan. A bunch of Airbnb people called the cops and homeowners to ask why they got towed,
Starting point is 00:02:01 and the location said that it had parking, so a lot of people were asking for refunds. My phone's been ringing non-stop today. Some homeowners tell me they're going to sue me for the refund they got. Some Airbnb tenants told me they're going to sue me for the towing cost. We have everything documented. A lot of Airbnb homeowners tell us that we're the butthole because we didn't tell them ahead of time. But we do put up lots of signs on the parking lot since last year when we bought it. They just hadn't come to see it.
Starting point is 00:02:32 And they approved selling this parking lot to us so... Yeah, of course the Airbnb people are saying that you're the butthole because you aren't letting them exploit you anymore. If they really want your parking spaces so badly, charge them for it and then see what they have to say. Happily, my friend, 50 bucks a day and this parking spot is yours. Don't like it? Well, too bad because I own it. Suck on eggs, loser.
Starting point is 00:02:59 O.P., you get zero out of five buttholes. If I were in your shoes, I would delight in towing cars at every opportunity. O.P., honestly, you could buy a tow truck and then, I guess, get the license for a tow truck, and you'd make a killing, towing cars off your own property. People would never learn their lessons because every summer it'd be a tow truck. new batch of idiots. Am I the butthole for telling my daughter that her biological mom didn't love her more than drugs, and that's why she couldn't see her? I've explained a million times. I've shown court documents. I've had the frank, hard conversations with her. It doesn't change
Starting point is 00:03:36 her opinion. I can't get her in any kind of therapy. She refuses. I feel like a piece of garbage, so I'm coming here. I got custody of my niece when she was three. She was taken away by the state, and the parent, my sister, was deemed unfit to take care of her. She lived in a drug house, and overall, she sucked. I won't go into details, but she was not a fit parent. We told my kids stories of her mother before she went off the deep end, and I thought we made it pretty clear why she couldn't see her. When my daughter was 14, my sister was getting back into contact with the family and seemed to be clean. I met up with her, and I didn't like what I said. I saw. She took no responsibility, and I decided to keep my daughter away. This resulted in my sister
Starting point is 00:04:25 contacting my daughter behind my back and trying to pick her up from school once. The cops were called. My daughter wanted to meet her mom, but I didn't think it was a good idea, and I was proven correct six months later when she stole from our mother. My sister went back to drugs, but sometimes she would randomly text my kid. My kid was in there. when this was happening. When my kid was 17, my sister passed away of overdose, and I signed my daughter up for grief counseling. The first time my kid saw her was at the viewing. She wanted to go. The issue now is that my kid is 20 and in college. She's upset that she never knew her biological mom. It's been an argument, and I wanted her to go back to therapy. We got into an argument yesterday over it.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I asked her what she wanted to eat, and she told me that she wants to eat with her biological mom. But she can't have that because I didn't allow them to meet. I snapped. I've been dealing with this for years at this point, and I told her that her biological mom didn't love her more than drugs, and that's why she never met her. It's not my fault she loved drugs more than her, and I'm done being blamed for it. She was pissed and has been crying since.
Starting point is 00:05:41 My husband thinks it needed to be said, and that this has been going on too long. I feel like garbage, though. Yeah, this is the type of wound that may never heal. She may always blame you in some capacity, even if it's not really fair for her to blame you. It's logical. Like, I get it, even if I don't agree with it.
Starting point is 00:06:01 But that's the thing about emotions. Emotions aren't always logical. So I'm on your side, O.P. You get zero out of five buttholes. I do think what you said was maybe a little on the harsh side, but I still don't necessarily think. you did anything wrong. I'm seeing some mixed comments down below. Some people think that OP should have allowed her to at least meet the mom. And I don't know, I'm kind of torn on that one.
Starting point is 00:06:23 On the one hand, I see the logic. It's just a meeting. But on the other hand, Opie has an obligation to protect her daughter. And is it safe? Is it a good idea to let your daughter around someone who could influence her who's on drugs, an addict who's stealing from people? Probably not. I don't know. This one's really tough, to be honest. Am I the butthole for showing up my brother's girlfriend by getting him a gift that he liked more and not warning her that I was getting a big gift? I'm a 25-year-old woman, and I have a twin brother who's 25. Growing up, our favorite pastime was building Lego together.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Our family couldn't afford it often, so the sets we had were treasured, and we'd always buy bags of loose bricks from charity shops whenever we saw them. It was a major bonding time for us making things together, and my brother claims that those days of playing with Lego is what inspired him to go on and become an architect. It was our birthday on Friday, and we had a small thing with family. My boyfriend of three years was there, and so was my brother's girlfriend of two years. She's 24. During the gift exchange, we left each other's presence last, as we've always done this,
Starting point is 00:07:31 and we opened our respective gifts. They were very nice and enjoyable, nothing to complain about on either side. When we exchange gifts, however, it led to some laughs, delights on both sides. I got him the New Schwannstein Castle Lego set, and he got me the Notre Dame Lego set. He clearly loved his gift and was going on about how excited he was to build it, and how he'd be spending his next day off working on it. He showed a little more enthusiasm for this than the watch that his girlfriend got him, though he clearly liked that too. Since then, his girlfriend has reached out to me, insisting I tried to show her up deliberately by getting him a gift that he'd like more,
Starting point is 00:08:10 and how she was trying to treat him like an adult with her gift while I was encouraging him to be childish. She also thinks we somehow planned this gift exchange as we both got Lego for each other. I had to tell her, no, it's just something we've always enjoyed together, and it's just natural we would do this. I also told her that I had no intention of showing her up, but that if she really wanted to win the day with gifts, she should have considered his interests and not worried about what seems appropriate for an adult. She then pivoted to the fact that she's his girlfriend, and I should have warned her I was getting an expensive gift. I pointed out that my brother didn't warn my boyfriend, but she insists that doesn't matter, that I should have. Was I in the wrong for not giving her a warning and leading her to feeling shown up as a result?
Starting point is 00:08:59 I've never felt the need to give a warning when my brother dated, but maybe I should have. This is weirdly petty and controlling behavior out of the girlfriend. I don't know why she cares so much about winning gifts. If my wife got a gift that she liked more than the gift I got her, I'd be delighted. I'd be like, oh, great, I'm happy that she's happy. And, oh, awesome, I now have a new idea for something she might like in the future. Thanks for the idea, other random person. You know, that's like a normal, healthy, reasonable response.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Instead of getting jealous over the twin, very stupid behavior. O.P., I'm giving you zero out of five buttholes. the girlfriend gets one out of five buttholes. Am I the butthole for walking out of an autistic guy's 45-minute presentation about the five nights at Freddie lore at a house party? So me and my girlfriend recently attended a friend's 30th birthday party. He had his 23-year-old, mildly autistic brother there. Before the party, we were all in a group chat where his brother overtook the entire thing,
Starting point is 00:10:02 and we were frequently having our phones blown up and coming back to 200-plus messages, which made us lose information about the event every time anything was put in there. He was also messaging us way into the night, to the point that we both just had to mute the chat indefinitely. When we got to the party, the host and his girlfriend opened the door for us, and as I was saying hello and giving a hug to my other friend, he completely bulldozed me out of the way and ran up to my girlfriend and shouted a joke in her face and ran off immediately afterwards.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Keep in mind, he's never met either of us before. He was also ridiculously drunk by the time we got there. The events started at 4, and we got there just before 7, and he was genuinely so drunk he could barely stand. Everyone was trying to get him to drink water. Following this, we all went to sit outside in their garden, where he then got quite upset that I had sat in his chair. But he didn't say anything to me or anyone else about it.
Starting point is 00:11:02 He sat next to my girlfriend and kept muttering things about me under his breath, and barging her chair with his leg so she kept having to move up. Eventually, we got up, and he immediately ran to get this chair, and then went around to everybody else that was sat down and was going on about this chair to the point that he was at near meltdown. At the same time, he also turned off the music of a playlist that we had added to because he felt overstimulated. Part of the party was that we had all made slideshows
Starting point is 00:11:32 with this joke presentations running for about two to three minutes for our friend's During our presentation, the autistic brother kept shouting over us, kept falling on the floor and hysterics, to the point where everybody was purely paying attention to him, and just trying to get him to sit still and watch. We could also see the host. It was his 30th birthday, and he was clearly not having a good time at this point. He's usually the most chill guy in the world, and we knew that he would love what we'd done, and this just sort of ruined it for everyone.
Starting point is 00:12:06 it got time for the brother's presentation. He made all of us sit in silence while he went on and did a costume change and came downstairs in a Freddie Fasbear costume with a printed 30-page double-sided document of the contents of his presentation and then proceeded to do a 45-minute presentation about the full lore of five nights at Freddy's. About 10 minutes in, me and my girlfriend politely shuffled out to go grab another drink at the shop across the road and he accosted us as we were leaving. We then did not come back in. The host's girlfriend even came out and sat with us in their living room and was like, yeah, I get it. We also weren't the only ones to leave. I want to say a good half of the people walked out. Any motion this party had was
Starting point is 00:12:55 immediately killed and people started leaving straight after this. The whole time, anything that anyone did had to revolve around him and making sure he was comfortable. But this, in turn, made everyone else feel uncomfortable. We didn't have a great time and didn't appreciate being shouted at by the brother while we walked out to get a drink. Are we buttholes? Definitely not O.P. If you want to leave a party, you can leave a party. I really feel bad for the 30-year-old host of the party, because my guess is he's had to deal with this type of behavior his entire life on every birthday party. That was our slash am I the butthole.
