Welcome to R.S. Am I the Devil, where O.P. would rather his wife do the dishes than support a dying
four-year-old. Our next Reddit post is from Absent Wife. My wife has been staying with her sister for the past two weeks.
Her sister is a single mom to a four-year-old with brain cancer. My sister-in-law was feeling
burnt out, so my wife decided to extend her trip indefinitely to help take care of her niece.
This happened on Saturday. Her niece will be spending the next two weeks in the
the hospital. My wife is planning to stay in the hospital with her niece. Then she wants to take her
niece out to our cabin for a week so that she can play in the snow. Then she'll be spending Christmas
with her sister. My wife is a housewife, so it's not like she has a job to get back to. But I would
like to see her at some point this month, and this house can't run the same without her. My wife
just told me about this plan to take her niece to the cabin. I told her that I want her to come back
sooner than later, and that I don't want her to go to the cabin. She says,
I'm welcome to come with her, but she wants to spend this time with her niece.
I told her she's going to come home within the next week or so.
And she snapped that I'm not her boss, and that she'll be taking her niece to see snow,
and that she'll be spending Christmas with her.
Now we're not speaking, so I wanted to know if I was the butthole.
Yo, Opie's wife is literally like,
Hey, so my niece is dying, I'd like to spend some time with her and form some memories
and give her a brief few moments of joy before she possibly died.
from a horrible disease, and O.P.'s like, yeah, but who's going to do the dishes while you're gone?
What, you expect me to do that? I've got laundry. Why do you think I married you? This actually
feels like divorce territory. I know that in Reddit and YouTube, it's popular to jump to the,
you know, wildest conclusion, ah, dump them, get rid of them. But this is insanely heartless. This is a
four-year-old, possibly dying girl. Hopefully she survives the cancer. And this guy prioritizes vacuum
over a dying four-year-old.
Yo, I don't think I could be with someone like that.
Yo, the kicker is...
The kickers...
This guy's username is absent wife,
so he created a throwaway.
So absent wife, it calls up the same connotation
as like an absent father,
someone who's shirking their responsibilities
to go, you know, run around town.
This is not an absent wife.
This is a present aunt for her niece.
Yo, O.P. is...
Okay. O.P. is actually scum.
Our next Reddit post is from District
Rubarb. Me and my boyfriend have been together for five and a half years, been living together for one
year. Seven months ago, he went to Japan with three of his friends, and while there, one of his friends
was being a huge jerk. He would act exactly how you're not supposed to act, and the final straw was
him getting too drunk at a restaurant and being belligerent that resulted in them getting
kicked out. As payback, when he fell asleep, they filled a bucket with water and dumped it on him.
He behaved correctly after they did it, and he told it to me as a funny story.
Lately, my boyfriend's been really inconsiderate.
Even though we live together, we don't see each other a lot, and we've been lacking on dates
and hanging out as a couple.
I work early in the mornings, and he works in the afternoon, but gets home when I'm already
going to sleep.
I've been trying to get a day where me and him can hang out in the afternoon when I get
out of work, but he always already has other plans, and I usually spend my afternoons
alone in the apartment. Most of my own friends live far away now, and my best friend just had a baby,
so I don't see her often. He's also been leaving his dirty laundry and leaving his dishes in the
sink when he leaves for work, because he goes to the gym a lot and meal preps. But he always
had the excuse that he loses track of time. I hate leaving dishes in the sink and laundry laying
about, so I always do it. I tried talking to him about it, but it literally was like in one ear
and out the other. And it was like I had to get his attention two weeks in advance,
before he decided to go out with his friends.
One time in particular, he didn't have work, and I was excited to see him, but as soon as I got
home, he was laying in our bid not doing anything, and when I cuddled him, he said he got up
and said that he has to go to the gym, and he went and was there for four hours.
All of his friends go to the same gym, and they goof off there.
I cried for hours.
The final straw was last month, because I texted him asking if he worked that day, and he had
an unexpected day off. I had the next day off and wanted to do something so we can sleep in together
for once. He was at the gym when I texted him and said that we should go to my favorite local
restaurant and hang out. And he said that he was with his friends and he would as long as they
didn't want to go anywhere. I said that I'd asked him first and he didn't respond to that. Later,
when I had 30 minutes left, he said they wanted to go to Korean barbecue so he was going with
them instead. I broke down sobbing and my co-worker was worried about me.
I went home, went on a walk in our neighborhood, and cried.
When he got home, he had brought me a macha, but I didn't want it.
I tried to bring it up with him and started shouting a bit,
but he said that we would talk about it tomorrow because he was tired and only said,
I love you, we can plan something next week.
I got really mad at him, and my sadness became such an intense rage.
I told him I was going for a walk and walked to a bar three blocks down and drink.
While alone, I had a lot of time to think about all of my frustrations.
When I came home, I wasn't sloshed, but I was drunk.
I don't know what came over me, but I filled our mop bucket with water, and I effing threw it on him.
It was so much that it damaged our floor, and I even dropped the bucket on him.
I've never seen him look so horrified before.
When he woke up, he was choking on the water, and it went completely up his nose.
He almost had a panic attack because he thought that he was drowning.
He doesn't know how to swim.
And he couldn't believe I had just done that to him.
I started shouting at him that he deserved it for how he treated me
and that I wished he would find the girl he actually wanted
because clearly he had no interest in me.
I even accused him of seeing another girl.
He didn't sleep the entire night and I ended up sleeping on our pull-out couch.
The next morning I woke up hung over, but I felt satisfied.
I helped him clean the mess and we came up with the same.
what to tell maintenance. While doing this, I told him everything I felt, and he didn't say anything,
just silently listened. The night after, he said that he was going to stay with his parents for a bit,
and he packed some stuff and left. I called him over and over hysterical and begging him not to
leave me, and that I was sorry, and I only wanted his attention, but he said he understood.
He stayed at his parents for two weeks, then came back, but he told me straight up that the only way
he was comfortable staying in the apartment was if I slept on the pull-out couch and he slept alone
in our bedroom with the door locked. I was devastated, but I agreed. It's now been almost two months,
and this is our arrangement. He's been washing the dishes and doing the laundry more. He's been
running a lot of my errands and telling me how much he loves me and making me coffee every day. He makes
more of an effort to spend some time with me now. The other week, he surprised me with tickets to
see the backroom's movie, and we had a blast. He even surprised me with Chipotle at my job while he was
passing by. At home, he's so sweet and loving, and it's like I'm finally getting what I wanted,
but he still refuses to sleep in the same room as me. The other night, we were cuddling in bed,
watching TV, and I accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, he wasn't in bed,
and I found him asleep on the couch. When I woke him up, he flinched super hard at the side of me.
That broke my heart.
I asked him if he was afraid of me,
and he said the truth was that he's been having
reoccurring nightmares of that night.
No matter how tired he is,
he cannot trust being asleep anywhere where I have access to him.
And sometimes he wakes up scared
because he has dreams where I'm about to do it again.
I just cried and apologized over and over.
I promised him I would never do it again.
He didn't say anything.
The same day, he made sure that he slept alone,
and I did too.
He did understand everything he did wrong, and he feels horrible for neglecting me so bad,
but he can't trust me when he's sleeping anymore.
Right now, I'm writing this from the pull-out couch, and my heart hurts so much from my predicament.
O.P. seems absolutely delighted that her boyfriend is suffering the consequences of his actions,
but absolutely horrified that she's suffering the consequences of her actions.
I like this comment. I've never heard this phrase before.
never has the saying trust is earned in drops and lost in bucketfuls been more accurate.
Why the hell do these people not just break up?
Our next Reddit post is from A to Conditioner.
My wife and I have three daughters.
The oldest is 16, the middle is 14, and the youngest is 10.
My entire family and my wife's family all has straight hair.
My oldest and youngest also have straight hair.
Then there's my middle with curly blonde hair and green eyes.
The rest of the family has brown hair and brown eyes.
I admittedly am not very close with her because I had doubts that she was mine, and I had a hard time bonding with her due to that.
My middle daughter insists that she needs special shampoo and conditioner because of her curly hair.
She found some that wasn't too expensive, so I bought it for her, but she goes through the conditioner like water.
She came to me after a little over a month and said that she needed another bottle.
I told her she doesn't, and that her conditioner should last her at least another month, but probably longer.
but she insists that you need to use a lot of conditioner for curly hair.
I bought her another bottle and told her to use less because she wasn't getting another one for
at least two months.
She used it again in a month, so I bought her shampoo and conditioner from the dollar store.
She had a meltdown about how this is going to ruin her hair and that she just got it
to a place where she liked it and it was manageable.
She blames us for her hair being uncontrollable for most of her life because she didn't
learn how to take care of curly hair, even though.
it's not different than straight hair.
She even threatened to shave her head,
which I know she won't do because
she's obsessed with her hair. Now
she's refusing to speak to me and she's
being extremely disrespectful
to me and my wife. My wife thinks
that we should just give in, but I think
she needs to learn her lesson. Am I
the butthole? Guys, am I tripping?
Isn't it super, super
well-known knowledge that curly
hair has really different needs
from most other hair types? That there
are entire lines of product,
built specifically for curly hair
because curly hair is notoriously difficult to tame.
I thought this was just like, you know,
the sun rises in the east and sets in the west
type of common knowledge that everyone knew.
Also, let's suppose worst case scenario,
this daughter is an affair baby.
Why is O.P. punishing the child?
Clearly O.P. has a chip on his shoulder.
He should be mad at the wife who cheated on him,
not the little girl who's totally innocent.
Oh, I found an interesting update.
Two weeks later, Opie wrote,
My middle daughter ran away a couple of days after I posted my original post.
We found out that she had been planning this for months.
My oldest daughter was in on it and helped her hide the fact that she's been working after school for months.
She taught her how to hide her money and showed her what to put in her bag and where to hide it.
When they were leaving for school, my daughter had a new backpack.
My wife asked about it and my middle said that it was her friends, but she didn't want it so she gave it to her.
which was completely plausible considering that friend gives her stuff all the time.
A couple of hours later, we got a call from the school saying that my middle daughter wasn't there.
My wife came home and checked her room and found a note on her dresser saying that she couldn't handle living with me anymore.
My wife has a sister around 45 miles away, and our middle daughter showed up to her house after being missing for three days.
She refuses to go home and threaten to run away again if she tried to make her see us.
At first, my wife told me to move out so our middle daughter could come back home,
but she quickly realized that she can't afford to live in our house on her income alone.
Plus, our oldest and youngest deserve to have their parents together.
So the middle is going to stay with her aunt until we figure out a plan that works for everyone.
Clearly, this post is not about hair or shampoo conditioner because a girl isn't going to run away over conditioner.
She's running out over consistent, bad treatment, and emotional abuse.
and neglect or any of those things.
Which means we only got a little taste of O.P.'s scumbaggery in his original post.
It's actually way, way deeper.
We got the tip of the iceberg.
The fact that even the oldest daughter was also helping shows just how bad O.P. really is.
Our next Reddit post is from Throwaway.
I'm a 23-year-old woman, and I have two half-sisters, Molly who's 29, and Mary who's 33,
from my dad's previous marriage.
I wasn't close to either of them growing up because they mainly,
stayed with her mom, and we just generally weren't close. We're all nice to one another, but it's not
buddy-buddy. I got married a few weeks ago, and both Molly and Mary were invited. They both RSVPed, yes.
Literally a couple of days before the wedding, Mary calls and says neither her nor Molly will be attending.
I'm shocked because obviously all the catering, everything's been put in, and now four people won't be
attending. They each had a plus one. Mary did sound apologetic, and she explained it to me,
detailing a, quote, traumatic situation Molly's going through, and that she will also not be attending
and staying with Molly and their mom instead. I got upset and said that I understand, but if she can just
attend for a little while to support me, she can leave early if she wishes. Mary kept saying it's not
possible, so I snapped and said how neither of them care about my feelings and the effort put into this
wedding, especially since Molly herself didn't bother giving me a call to let me know, and it's obvious that I was
always the outsider sister and not a part of their group. Mary said that I was being selfish and hung up
the phone. I did tell some relatives of situation who knew about it and got mixed reactions for going
off at Mary. So for context, you guys are probably wondering, oh, I wonder what the traumatic situation is.
What could be so awful that it would prevent her from attending the wedding? Well, the one little detail
that OP left out of this post that they had to pull out of her in the comments is that her half-sister's
boyfriend literally died. Opie's comment where she reveals this information has 4,372 downvotes,
making this one of the most downvoted comments I've ever seen in this job of reading all these
Reddit posts. You know, the fact that she didn't reveal this information in the original post
shows she knows she's in the wrong. She's just trying to get people on her side to make herself feel
better. Getting all worked up over each of them having a plus one, when one of those plus ones has
literally died is crazy.
