Starting point is 00:00:32 where OP suffers from some much-deserved revenge. Our next Reddit post is from deleted. I'm a 25-year-old guy, and I've been with my ex-girlfriend, Carly, who's 23, for nearly 10 years. We were high school sweethearts, and we had a good relationship up until after she completed college. Adulthood has been putting us strange on our relationship, so bills and finding sustainable jobs has been a challenge.
Starting point is 00:00:56 We started arguing a bunch and just started to be a bunch, overall being annoyed with each other's existence. We weren't sleeping in the same room, let alone being intimate. It was a tough time to say the least. We tried therapy, and I felt like it wasn't working. I honestly wanted to be done, but I couldn't break up with her because we lived together and she helped me get out of debt. So I did something horrible and I started cheating on her with her childhood best friend. I thought that she would never find out, and my gosh, I was wrong. Yesterday afternoon I came home, and she wanted to talk, and without hesitation, she jumped straight into it, and asked me point blank if I was cheating on her, and I of course tried to lie, and she just starts laughing and says,
Starting point is 00:01:40 I knew you weren't going to admit it, but I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt, so now I just feel less guilty. I just confessed to her, and she just looked at me and didn't have any expression or speak. When I finished, she just laughed and told me something I'd never forget. Honestly, it's fine because Louie was over last weekend and we had a great time. My heart dropped to my stomach because Louis is my big brother. I just thought that was a low blow from Carly, given that she knew how insecure I was about my brother. He's the golden child and literally always did things ten times better than me. I'm stuck having to have some sort of relationship with him.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Meanwhile, she can just drop her best friend. My chest and heart has been hurting so much since I found out, and I'm so broken. I know that I was wrong for cheating first, but if she knew, why didn't she just break up with me first? I called out of work, because I feel like throwing up just thinking about it. Then Opie posted an update. I did not intend for this to be a viral post. I'm just extremely hurt, and I get that I screwed up. Also, yeah, I know she did it because she offered video proof, and my brother's been
Starting point is 00:02:53 dodging my calls. I'm going actually insane right now, and all you people here are just obsessed with kicking me while I'm down. It's messed up. Like, I get it, lo, so funny, she won good for her. Also, with the debt that she helped me paid off, she did it from her inheritance, but I didn't ask her to. If she asked for the money back, I'd be willing to set up some sort of payment arrangement with her. O.P., I'm with everyone else. I'm glad she got her revenge. Our next Reddit post is from our slash relationship advice. I fully acknowledged that my behavior was wrong, but to be honest, I was incredibly drunk. I recently moved into this new apartment complex, and they have a small dog park for residence. I take my dog there fairly often. That's where I met my neighbor, Carla. Whenever I saw her
Starting point is 00:03:40 at the dog park, she made it clear she was interested in me, so I asked her out and got her number. Fast forward to the date, I'd planned on going to a bar and got way too drunk beforehand. Initially, things seemed to go well. She even joked that she didn't expect to see the drunk me so soon, and we made plans to meal prep together the next day. This is where I messed up. I saw this girl, Nizja, who was stunning, and I got up to flirt with her. I got her number and lost track of time. When I returned to the table, Nizja was already texting me back, and I saw her. was distracted by my phone. Carla was understandably upset and I realized I was being rude. So being drunk, I apologized and told her that I didn't think things would work out and that we wouldn't be able to meal
Starting point is 00:04:29 prep because I just made plans with Nysia. And I didn't feel a connection with her. She accepted, asked for the check, insisting on paying her share, and left. She didn't give me a ride home, which I understand, even though we live in the same complex and she drove, I'd taken an Uber there and got there early because I knew I was going to drink. I feel terrible because even though it was just our first date and we weren't exclusive, it was still rude to hit on another woman during the dates. I was drunk and Nijia is just so incredibly beautiful. As much as it sucks, everything happens for a reason.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And Nizja and I are now in a serious relationship and things are going great. The only downside is that Nijja is scared of dogs, but she's slowly getting used to mine. Now the issue is that Carla is completely cold whenever I see her. She blocked me, which I understand. Truthfully, it would probably be disrespectful to Nizja to text Carla and try to be friends. Nizja is fine with my women friends, as long as it's 100% platonic, and I haven't dated them before.
Starting point is 00:05:35 But I would like to get to a point where Carla and I can joke around and have our funny banter when we see each other at the dog park. Any advice on how to achieve that would be great. You know, for a guy who picked up two women effortlessly, he is shockingly clueless about how to deal with women. That relationship has been bombed. That bridge has been burned, that ship has sailed. You will never be on good terms with Carla again.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Am I the butthole for refusing to move to France, despite my wife and daughter wanting to? I'm a software engineer and self-employed. My wife is French and works for a large consulting company, in the U.S. We have a 12-year-old daughter. A few months ago, our daughter developed a chronic condition. I don't want to name it, but she needs ongoing treatment. Her doctor initially recommended a particular treatment. Our insurance company denied coverage, saying it wasn't the ideal first option and that we should try other treatments first. Her doctor strongly disagrees.
Starting point is 00:06:35 She says the alternatives can help, but generally don't work as well long term, and that the treatment she recommended is what she would prefer for our daughter. I'm skeptical. Maybe she's right, but doctors can be biased too. I have no idea whether she gets incentives or kickbacks from the treatment she recommends. We tried one of the alternatives. Our daughter says it causes side effects. Nothing catastrophic. She can still go to school, see friends, and function normally. But she says she feels worse and keeps asking for the original treatment. The problem is that the original treatment is incredibly expensive without insurance. I paid for a week of it, and my daughter claimed it was perfect, but it could be placebo since she wanted it. My wife is French, so she looked
Starting point is 00:07:21 into treatment in France. She says the treatment her doctor recommended would be covered there. She can also transfer to the French office of her consulting company. I could technically keep working remotely from France because I'm self-employed, but taxes would be higher. I'd have to deal with residency and Visa paperwork, and there would be a lot of other bureaucracy. I also don't speak French, and I have no intention of learning. I've never wanted to live in France. I refused to move. My position is that our daughter is getting treatment here.
Starting point is 00:07:53 It's not like we're leaving her untreated. The alternative has side effects, but she's still functioning normally, and I don't think moving our entire family to another country is a reasonable response to an insurance disagreement. My wife thinks I'm being selfish. She says that we're choosing to make our daughter deal with side effects because I don't want to be inconvenienced. Our daughter has also said she wants to move to France because she wants the treatment without the side effects. I told her it's not that simple.
Starting point is 00:08:22 We'd have to deal with immigration, taxes, housing, work, and moving our entire lives. I don't think a 12-year-old gets to decide where the family lives based on one medical issue. My wife points out that she's willing to uproot her life because she's willing to uproot her life because she's, thinks that's what our daughter needs, while I'm basically saying that I won't even learn French. Am I the butthole? Imagine your dad looking you in the eyes and being like, sweetie, I would rather you suffer than me have to be inconvenienced. I mean, I'll have to fill out paperwork for God's sake. So just get used to the side effect because you'll be dealing with it for the rest of your life, sweetie. And somehow this guy's choosing to believe an insurance company over a
Starting point is 00:09:04 doctor? Am I the butthole for purposefully leaving my wife at home with the kids? Me and my wife have been together for 10 years. We have two young kids. We're very different people, and the concept of opposites attract could not be more true for us. I love my wife, but every time that we argue, we can never seem to find a resolution. Our most recent fight has me feeling very lost. Basically, my wife works from home all week and also takes care of the kids. I work outside of our home during week, so when the weekend comes, I just want to stay home and relax or work on house projects. My wife, on the other hand, always wants to go out and do things as a family with our two kids. Last weekend, we got into a big argument because I didn't want to go out, but my wife did.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Eventually, she went upstairs with the kids so that I could work on some stuff, but in actuality, I ended up leaving the house to blow off some steam. hours later, she checked my location and caught on that I had left her at the house. Apparently, the whole time, she thought that I was in the house working on home projects while she watched the kids upstairs. She says that what I did was spiteful, but I disagree. I wasn't trying to be spiteful, and I don't see anything malicious about me having gone out without her.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I just wanted a sanity break. We haven't spoken in a week, and we're sleeping in separate bedrooms. I don't get why she's so upset, and talking only leads to more arguing. She keeps going back to saying that I was being spiteful, and I don't know how to make her understand that I wasn't. Well, I actually agree you weren't being spiteful, you were being selfish. There's a slight difference. Spiteful is when you hurt yourself to hurt someone else.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Selfish is when you don't care about the people around you, and you only care about yourself. Yeah, you are definitely, definitely selfish here. It's interesting how OP is entitled to a sanity break, but the woman who works while also watching kids is not entitled to a sanity break. Am I the butthole for refusing to refer to my fiancé's sister as Dr. Robbins? My fiance and I are getting married very soon. We're at her grandmother's house in France, and we'll be staying until we leave for our honeymoon. We've been together for three years, but until a week ago, I've only ever met her mother in person. I know this may sound odd, but she comes from a family of overachievers, and most of her relatives are spread across different countries.
Starting point is 00:11:31 I was already anxious about meeting her family. Everyone is coming to France for the wedding, and her siblings, Antonia and Sean, both older, are also staying in her grandmother's house with her parents and children. Sean arrived a bit over a week ago, and Antonio arrived about five days ago. Since we've been sharing the house, me and my fiancé have been spending a lot of time with Sean and his family, and he seems chill. However, I've been warned in advance that Antonia can be quite cold and difficult to get along with. Antonia arrives with her husband and children. She was what I expected from the warning, but she didn't do anything offensive until yesterday when the rest of my fiancé's family came over for a dinner party. My fiance's father and Sean are both doctors. So I called them both Dr. Robbins,
Starting point is 00:12:17 which is their last name, when referring to them. It just felt like the respectful thing to do, and I could tell they both appreciated it. The problem started when I referred to Sean as Dr. Robbins and Antonia as Antonia. All of a sudden, she turns to my fiance and goes, Did you tell him to call them that? In a very unpleasant tone. I asked her what she meant and she said, You know, I am a doctor too, right?
Starting point is 00:12:42 I told her I thought she was a psychiatrist and she said, Yes, that requires a doctorate. I'm also Dr. Robbins. I said, oh, okay, and just continued the original conversation that she interrupted. Later on in the same night, I referred to her as Antonia, and she interrupted again and said, Dr. Robbins. I had had a few drinks and was starting to get tired of her attitude, and told her that I'd already gotten used to referring to her as Antonia.
Starting point is 00:13:13 So expecting me to change that was a little bit ridiculous. She told me that she didn't understand why I couldn't just call her Dr. Robbins, since I insist on calling Sean and her father that. I had already been getting tired of her attitude and told her that me using Doctor was a sign of respect, and that she had not yet earned my respect. She left to go to another room and really dampened the mood of the evening that was meant to be for me and my fiancé. My fiance's parents and grandmother think that I'm the butthole and I should have just
Starting point is 00:13:46 called her Dr. Robbins, and Sean thinks it's not that big of a deal. My fiance's been asking me to just suck it up and apologize to her so there's no drama before the wedding. But I don't think I've done anything wrong. So Reddit, am I the butthole? You know, for someone who didn't think they did anything wrong, they deleted the post. The only reason I was able to read this is because someone had the foresight to save it. O.P. is getting ripped to shreds in the comments for the very obvious hypocrisy and misogyny of calling the male doctor's doctor, but the female doctor, Antonia. Also, his argument that he's already gotten used to calling her Antonia is stupid,
Starting point is 00:14:25 because calling three people Dr. Robbins is actually easier because it's one less name to remember. Also, I've got bad news for O.P.'s soon-to-be wife. She may come from a family of overachieving doctors, but I think that trend may end with her, because it seems to me that O.P. will be dumbing down the gene pool here. Am I the butthole for inviting my girlfriend on an expensive vacation and expecting her to pay all of her share? My girlfriend, myself, my parents, and my brother and his wife all went on vacation in another country a week ago. My brother and I were the ones who did most of the planning of the itinerary, although we did ask everyone else for input. For background, I make around $150,000 as an IT consultant. My girlfriend is a teacher making
Starting point is 00:15:13 $45,000. My parents are pretty affluent, as well as my brother and sister-in-law. My girlfriend knew this trip was coming up and took on a second job waitressing on the weekends for several months to get ready for it. We've always split things 50-50 in the two years we've been together. There were a few times on the vacation when she didn't go on outings with us, wine tasting, scuba diving, etc. She also would only eat two meals a day, simply stating that she was on a budget. My family does favor more high-end, expensive places. My parents thought it was very serious. My parents thought it was very strange that she only eats two meals a day, although normally she eats three. When we got home, I asked her why she skipped out on several of the outings and only ate two meals a day. I mentioned
Starting point is 00:16:01 how I heard her stomach growling one night and said I was concerned about her having an eating disorder. She got teary-eyed and said that three meals a day wasn't fiscally feasible for her, and neither were the outings that she chose not to go on. She went on three of the six outings. She said that she wasn't expecting everything to cost so much and that she was overwhelmed. She also said that she doesn't know if this is going to work long term if she's expected to go on vacations like that with people who make so much more than her. I feel bad that I didn't pick up on her discomfort sooner. But we did agree to split everything 50-50, and I don't know why she agreed to come if cost was an issue. Down in the comments, people are ripping apart OP for being inconsiderate and self-absorbed,
Starting point is 00:16:48 and this is one of his comments. Thank you. This is the first comment that helped me realize that deep down I think she's not good enough for me. And I do not want to give her more. I felt this way for a little while, but wasn't sure where the feeling came from. According to you all, she probably deserves better, so I'm sure we'll be breaking up shortly. Wow, actually brutal. That was our slash am I the devil.
