Welcome to R-slash, Am I the Devil, where O.P. wants to make scars illegal.
Our next Reddit post comes from R-slash the 10th Dentist.
The sub-reddit is called that because you've heard those commercials where it's like
9 out of 10 dentists degrees, blah, blah, blah, blah.
So this is the sub-reddit for the 10th dentist who posts some, like, off-the-wall opinion
where he disagrees with everyone else.
And we have this absolutely bonkers post.
It should be illegal for people who have lots of visible self-harm scars to go out.
in public without covering them. I feel like that would not only discourage already depressed people
from starting to cut, but it would also stop people who used to cut from relapsing, which happens
quite a lot. Not to mention, seeing self-harm scars can be quite triggering for some people. I, of course,
also believe that scar removing surgery should be free of cost, so that people with lots of self-harm
scars on their arms and legs can go out in the summer in shorts and t-shirts. The top post is,
fits the sub perfectly because it's legit unhinged.
Down in the comments, everyone is saying, you know, of course, everything you would expect,
this is completely inhumane and it's cruel to people who have self-harm scars.
But here's like a really tricky thing that you got to think about.
O.P.'s idea is like 10 times worse than you probably thought.
Because if you make self-harm scars illegal, then that means the government has to get involved
and determine what scars are self-harm and what are, you know, randomly inflicted because you
tripped and fell and hurt your knee or whatever. So that means every time you get a scar,
you have to, I guess, go to the police station and register your scar. Or if you're just walking around,
I mean, I've got a scar on my leg from when I fell on a nail when I was little. So does that mean
if I'm walking around with shorts, a cops are going to arrest me, you're under arrest. We're
investigating you for your scar, which might be self-harm, come down to the station. And then I have to,
I don't know, call up my doctor from all those years ago and give medical records about an
injury, so, oh, I see, it was an accident scar. You're free to go, sir. And then, you know,
you've got to discuss potentially really traumatic events, like, oh, I got a terrible burn when I
spilled boiling water on myself. That's what the scars from. Thanks for making me relive this
terrible moment, officer. Like, this is a horrible society OP's envisioning in every conceivable level.
O.P.'s idea is dumb, and he should feel dumb about it.
Am I the butthole for calling my sister-in-law a liar?
I'm a 31-year-old guy, and I live in San Diego.
My older brother, who's 34, recently got married to a woman from India, who's 30.
They'd only been dating for about seven months, but her visa was expiring,
so they decided to get married sooner rather than later.
My brother and I have always been close.
We've done a lot of favors for each other over the years,
and one thing we've always had is trust.
We don't lie to each other, even about little things.
Recently, I had to travel to India for work.
This project is in a pretty remote area, and by coincidence, it's close to where my sister-in-law's family lives.
She told me not to rent a vehicle because her family had a Jeep I could borrow.
That sounded perfect, so I thanked her.
When I arrived, her family handed me the keys to a Mahinda tar.
I was confused and asked where the Wrangler was.
They looked confused and said,
This is the Jeep.
I didn't want to make a scene with her family,
so I just took it and drove it for the week.
It worked fine and got me to where I needed to go.
When I got back, I asked my sister-in-law
why she told me her family had a Jeep
when they actually had a Mahinda tar.
She said, it's the same thing.
I told her, no, it isn't.
Jeep is a brand.
Mahinda is a brand.
A Wrangler and a tar are completely different vehicles.
She said everyone where she's from calls vehicles like that
jeeps, and that she didn't think there was any different.
I said that's ridiculous. By that logic, I could point at a Chrysler PT cruiser and call it a BMWX5 because they're both SUVs.
They're obviously different cars made by different companies. She got upset and said that I was being
intentionally difficult and that she wasn't trying to deceive me. I told her that if you tell someone your
family owns a Jeep Wrangler when they actually owned a Mahinda Tar, that's lying. My brother says I'm being
pedantic and that she was using Jeep as a generic term, the way some people say Kleenex for any
tissue. I don't think that's comparable. If someone specifically tells me they have a Jeep,
I expect them to have an actual Jeep. For what it's worth, I'm grateful they let me borrow the
vehicle. This isn't about the favor. It's about telling me something that wasn't true and then
insisting I was wrong for pointing it out. Am I the butthole? Okay, I had to look up a mehinda
tar. I assume my editor is going to throw it up on the screen.
right now. This looks like a Jeep to me. I'm not a car guy. If I saw this on the road in a parking
lot, I would just assume that's a Jeep. But it's not. It's a Mahindatar, which I guess was made in,
I don't know, India based on the name. So Opie's getting his panties in a twist because the
sister-in-law doesn't know or care about car brands, which is fair a lot of people don't care
about car brands. A lot of Americans would call this a Jeep. And considering that people in India
apparently call this a Jeep as well. I don't know what you expect from her because if she just grows up
learning that that thing is a Jeep, then I mean that's just what the culture over there decided.
Here's the thing that's really shocking to me. I'm not a car guy. I don't know a whole lot about cars.
But if someone told me that they had a Jeep in India, I would automatically assume that it probably isn't a Jeep.
Because, I mean, I've been to Japan and you know what they have in Japan? They have Subaru's and Toyotas everywhere.
I've been to China. You know what they have in China?
Lots and lots of Chinese-made cars.
So I would have to assume that India is like 10, 20 times more likely to have a Chinese or Indian or Japanese-made car instead of a Jeep, which is made in, I think, the Netherlands.
And I'm not even a car guy.
And I know enough about, like, car economics to know that it's probably unlikely that there's a Jeep in India.
I mean, I'm sure there are jeeps in India somewhere.
I'm just, you got to play the odds.
It's probably just an Indian car that looks like a Jeep.
So O.P. is apparently a car guy who's too stupid to understand how car economics work.
I guess maybe because he's American, he thinks that all like German cars and Japanese cars and American cars because they're all available in America, then that must also be true everywhere else.
Well, it's not.
I can tell you American cars are extremely rare in China.
Also, a quick aside, I got to tell you guys, I got to give you guys.
I gotta give you guys a warning.
If Chinese cars ever hit American markets,
then the American car industry is done.
It'll be destroyed overnight.
That's why you don't see Chinese cars here in America
because they're awesome.
I've been in Chinese cars that are literally like the nicest cars I've ever been in,
and they're cheaper than the American counterparts.
You can get a Chinese-made car for the equivalent of like $20
that is as good or even better in quality than like BMW or Mercedes or,
or Tesla. So I don't know, man. OPEs super dumb. Super, super dumb. Oh, damn, listen to this guys. I went
out of the comments. Apparently you have to be a supercar guy to know this. Welcome to the world of global
economics and business. Mahindra is the India licensee holder for Jeep. They use Jeep technology
in their own branded vehicles. A quick internet search would have provided you with that
information. O.P. replied, really? I thought they were a
copy and probably not legal in countries with good intellectual property law.
So it literally...
After all this, it literally is a Jeep.
So O.P.'s a car guy who doesn't understand anything about cars.
Oh my God, O.P., so stupid and condescending.
And sounds like he's probably racist, too.
Looking down on...
You don't know anything about India intellectual property law.
You don't have a clue.
It could be stricter than American property law, for all you know,
Moron, dipshit, dumbass!
Am I the butthole for reminding my girlfriend it was her decision to have an abort?
I'm a 25-year-old guy, and I dated my girlfriend, who's 25 for six years now.
About five months into our relationship, I got her pregnant.
This is, in spite of the fact that I wore protection.
We were only 19, so I thought that she would come to her senses and decide to abort.
However, she slowly began to warm to the idea of keeping the child and raising it.
I tried very hard to show her the other side.
My parents contacted her to voice their disapproval of keeping the baby, but this didn't sway her.
So then I contacted her parents and they sided with me.
They swayed my girlfriend a bit more.
Ultimately, it was only when I told her that I would leave her if she kept the baby that she agreed.
Now, this wasn't me abandoning responsibility, but rather it was me stating my boundaries.
If she wanted to bring a kid into our lives, then I would walk away.
I'd pay whatever support was necessary, but she would be making a decision that alienated lots of people.
It wasn't just about her.
We've stayed together since.
However, these past few months, she's been acting different.
She starts bringing up this ab-b-xion and asked why I was so against it.
Then, the other day, she goes crazy.
She asks me why I didn't support her and that it was a mistake to have an abort-a-.
I then reminded her, it was your decision to have an abort-b-b-.
We all set our peace.
but don't blame this on anyone else.
You chose this.
She then began crying a lot and called me a butthole.
We haven't spoken since, and her friends have taken her side.
Ultimately, I think she's trying the blame game.
Am I the butthole?
O.P. literally tried every manipulation tactic in the book.
Begging, pleading, threatening,
bringing in other people to also join in on convincing her to make a decision she doesn't want to make.
And in the end, oh, this is your decision.
It's got nothing to do with it.
me? Why are you blaming me? O.P. is wildly manipulative. This top comment, this is pretty good.
All I did was hold you at knife point and tell you to give me all your money. It was your decision
to hand over your wallet. Will I be the butthole for asking my husband to let go of his
best worker over a hunch? I'm a 40-year-old woman, and my husband, who's 43, has this
male 19-year-old worker whom he loves. He calls him his son, lets him eat our food, teaches him his life
lessons. The boy began working for us when he was around 14, just little things like mowing the yard,
stacking our firewood, going on errand runs for us, normal chore-like work for a young kid.
It was an immediate hire when he turned 16. The boy is very tall and fit to work, etc.
Already pretty trustworthy and seemed to be a hard worker, so my husband put him to work in his
shop as a mechanic. The issue is that we have an 18-year-old daughter. That alone should
probably sum it up. She's our only child, and me and my husband are very protective of her.
We've raised her with strong Catholic and traditional Mexican values, and she understands that
no boys are allowed until she leaves the house, and when boys come to question, it should be
for marriage and not to play. Since summer started, from day to night, my daughter would sit
in my husband's garage and just watch the kid work. From 12 to 6 sometimes, when I'm home and can
witness it. I'm truly disturbed. Disturbed, are you really disturbed? I'm worried about her
heart posture and what she may be thinking. The boy is no better. We live in a smallish town
about an hour from one of the bigger or more popular cities, which my daughter enjoys going to
greatly and has since she was young. He's taken her in his truck frequently since the start of June,
three times in one week at a point. I got into a discussion about the situation with my husband,
and he continues to defend him saying he's trustworthy and smarts.
The straw that broke the camel's back is when the other night I got a feeling, likely God,
and went to my daughter's room to check on her.
I almost had a full heart attack when I saw this kid in there.
My daughter is absolutely not allowed to have men or boys in her room.
Not even my husband, her father, has gone into her room to respect privacy. Wow.
Even when her primos come over, they're strictly not allowed.
near or in her room. Obviously he knows this and I don't know where he got the gall.
This was after sundown. Completely inappropriate. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this anymore
and I'm thinking to tell my husband to just get rid of the boy. But I know that it might
break my husband's heart. This kid is the son my husband never got and since this boy has a
single mother, it's a very mutual situation. When father's day comes, the kid always has
something for my husband. That's how close the two have grown. And of course the boy could stay in contact
with my husband. He could even work with him. I just don't think he should be working anywhere near
my daughter whatsoever. I don't know what to do. This is such a weird post. Clearly the boy likes the
girl. Clearly the girl likes the boy. I've never in my life heard of a mechanic hanging around a
mechanic shop for six hours for fun. Oh, there's a cute boy there. Okay, explains everything. The boy and the dad both
like each other, so of all the boys in the universe to show interest in the daughter, isn't this
kind of like the ideal candidate? Shouldn't she be thrilled that a hardworking, kind, reliable
guy who has a good relationship with your family already is developing a romantic attraction
with the daughter? Also, I hate to break it to you, but they're already screwing, or at least
making out. You think they drive to the city to, I don't know, go to McDonald's? Nah, man, they're
knocking boots. They're teenagers.
O.P. Trying to stop this from happening is like trying to stop the tide. I don't know if O.P.
is really the butthole here so much as she is just very, very naive. That was our slash am I the
devil. And if you like this content, be sure to follow my podcast because I put out new Reddit
