Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to R-Slasht Best of Redditor Updates, where OP works next to the world's worst cook. Our next reddit post comes from R-Slasht and my The Bad Guy. So I have a Korean coworker who was adopted when she was a baby by the widest people I have ever met. I'm Hispanic and also adopted by the widest people ever. So I guess me and my coworker bonded over that at first. However, she talks about her heritage as if she were raised Korean and pretends that she doesn't have white parents, which I don't understand, but to each their own. So this coworker is constantly bringing Korean food into the office that smells so intense
Starting point is 00:00:41 or bad that the entire office smells for the rest of the day. I have a sensitive stomach with smells and I can't handle it constantly. We also work in an extremely small office space, so this isn't a space where I can ask to move desks or I'm bothered by some faint smell in the distance. Now I wouldn't have an issue if it was once in a while, even once a week, but it's making me physically ill at my desk every day for months now. I really cannot emphasize enough that it's not the smell of intense seasoning or ingredients that's turning my stomach, but it actually smells like expired, bad food.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Yesterday was the worst. I couldn't take it anymore. I politely apologized and asked her if she could maybe consider eating in the break room because my stomach couldn't handle the smells. I would ask the same thing if our buddy Sam was bringing tuna sandwiches in. I think that I said I'm sorry like 10 times in the process of asking because I know that she's sensitive about it. She got quiet and throughout her food.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Again, I apologized a hundred times, but now the food was in the trash can next to my desk and it was DEDLY the whole day. I actually had to ask if I could go home an hour early, and she made an off-handed remark that I didn't have to pretend to be sick and she wouldn't bring her culture to work again. I assume things would be tense, but I woke up this morning to a bunch of posts on her social media dragging me by name as a racist. She would as far as calling me a white supremacist and one and said that I told her that she
Starting point is 00:02:16 wasn't allowed to eat anything non-American in the office because it offended me. That is not what happened at all! My boss even said that we have to have a meeting this afternoon regarding issues with co-workers, which this is obviously about. And now, I'm terrified that I'm going to be fired for being a racist. I tried to apologize to her and tell her that there may have been a misunderstanding. But she cried about how insulting her cultural food was the deepest racist attack that she's ever experienced, and
Starting point is 00:02:45 she doesn't feel safe working with me anymore. My other coworker, Sam, said that my comparison to him bringing tuna wasn't the same because it has nothing to do with his heritage. He said that maybe my nausea is really some repressed racism. I don't even know how to process all this. I genuinely feel like I'm losing my mind. I don't mean to offend anyone, let alone this badly. Reddit, am I the bad guy?
Starting point is 00:03:10 Also, OP reveals some really interesting information down in the comments. As far as pretending that her parents are Korean, it's not that she pretends that her white parents are Korean, but she constantly talks about her birth parents as if they are her parents. And she talks about Korea as if she were raised there. I mean, that's all she ever talks about really. My mom and dad were booties, so I keep their stuff with me, and her desk is covered in spiritual stuff from them. But it's all stuff that she bought. Her adopted parents have come to the office before, and they're so sweet and nice, and she acts friendly to them, but calls them
Starting point is 00:03:45 by their first name. Mind you, this is a 26 year old woman who has never met her birth parents, who was adopted around one year old and has never been back to Korea. Basically, she talks as if her parents are Korean immigrants and she was raised by them with their culture. While the sweet white couple who raised and spoiled her, she pretends they don't exist. Also, other people ask Opie if other people heard the exchange in the office and Opie says, everyone was in the office and heard it. My three other co-workers who I didn't mention share the small space with me and they agreed
Starting point is 00:04:19 and thanked me at the end of the day yesterday. But they're also terrified of my Korean co-worker because she's quick to be offended and everyone kinda walks on eggshells around her. So I don't know how willing they would be to stand up for me. And to be clear, her food doesn't smell a lot. It smells bad, like spoiled. And FYI, there's a sign in the break room
Starting point is 00:04:40 that says to keep all meals in the kitchen. Yesterday's meal looked like feta chini alfredo made with rice noodles, but genuinely smelled like spoiled milk. I need to really emphasize that I effing love feta chini alfredo and whatever disaster she home cooked was not how it's supposed to smell. My other three co-workers also are ready to vomit
Starting point is 00:05:02 at all of her home cooked meals. I don't know what this crazy lady is putting in her food, but something is very, very wrong, and I'm not the only one smelling it. Four out of six office employees are ready to vomit, and the only one other than her who isn't has self-proclaimed they have no sense of smell. This abomination of food that she calls fetuccinefredo is not anything I would deem edible. Then, about a day later, OP post in an update. The meeting with my boss was gold.
Starting point is 00:05:32 And I have to start with my favorite part. The food wasn't Korean. Oh man, I did not see that coming. It was indeed, as suspected, feta chini alfredo. That's right, all of you were mad at me for fighting Korean food, bad smelling, when it wasn't even Korean. This unhinged woman's lies knows no limits. Sorry, this story is really funny to me.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Okay, so the next day, O.P. Post an update. So to start, she came in in the morning and went straight to the manager's office. She told him all these racist things that I said about her food and such and was crying in hysterics like absolute hysterics. My manager came out after, asked for a meeting, then went back over the past few hours and watched every interaction we had together over the last day and a half. We have security cameras in the office due to working with some sensitive information.
Starting point is 00:06:24 What we say and to who on the phone can legally matter a lot, so we should know that we're being watched. But maybe my coworker thought that it was a lie, or she forgot? Who knows. Lo and behold, the footage showed that I didn't say or do anything racist, and was only asking her to follow the rules insanely politely. Sorry, this story is ridiculous. Moreover, when he watched me leave the office yesterday, he watched me say goodbye to everyone, and apparently, right after I left, my coworker Sam started asking the Korean coworker about the food, saying that she told him she was making fetishini alfredo and that it
Starting point is 00:07:03 didn't look Korean and the idiot confirmed it. Apparently, she thought that I was assuming it was Korean because of how she looks and that I was being racist. She assumed that because she looks Korean, that me asking her to eat in the break room was an insult to Korean food and decided to just lie around that assumption. This is the most unhinged stuff I've ever heard of in my entire life. I don't know who to be more mad at, my three co-workers who didn't tell me that stuff was cheesy noodles, the culprit for lying this badly or Sam for knowing and gaslighting me so badly that I thought I was going crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:42 My boss, thank god, was extremely chill about it with me. And we ended up just shooting the breeze for a short bit about some nerd stuff. And he told me that she's being put on two-week leave while he and the owner figure out how to fire her without her trying to sue and to try and relax a bit. He also already has screenshots of her socials and the company will be threatening legal action if she doesn't take it down. However, he did advise me as many of you guys did to consider a lawyer or restraining order because this entire thing is so unhinged.
Starting point is 00:08:14 So basically, I'm not effing crazy as much as I felt like it all day. Effing fetuccini alfredo, man? Opie, so it turns out you're not racist against Koreans. You're racist against Italian, you monster. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Oh God, it should not have smelled like that. I have to love Fettuccine Alfredo. This woman shouldn't be allowed within a hundred foot radius of a kitchen. I don't know how you can mess up something that bad, but when I say it smelled rancid, it was bad bad. No, like her cooking was all that bad, no matter what she brought. One day, she made chicken noodle soup and it was so notably
Starting point is 00:09:06 pungent, like a wet cloth shoe that she had worn all day. She even offered people to taste it and one of the other co-workers was so desperately curious as to why it smelled that they risked it for the biscuit. They ended up vomiting later. Hahaha. Hahaha. Hahaha. They ended up vomiting later that day and said it was the worst thing they've ever tasted. I don't know what's wrong with their taste buds or sense of smell, but holy god, I didn't even know anyone could be so oblivious.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Okay, so a fun fact about the human nose. You know, everyone knows that there really good smellers out there are like sharks and bears and dogs, of course. Moths, if you didn't know, have it a really incredible sense of smell. But the thing about the human nose is it's not that we're really bad at smelling compared to these other animals. We're actually quite good at smelling. It's just we're only good at smelling really, really specific things. For example, there's a chemical called geosmin, which naturally appears in earthy, airable soil.
Starting point is 00:10:13 That's the weird smell in the air right after it rains. It smells really good and like fresh. Well, what that means is we're smelling geosmin, which means this soil is really, really good for planting crops. And the cool thing about this fact is that humans are better at smelling geosmen than sharks are at smelling blood in water. Like, that's how finely tuned our noses are to smelling this one specific thing.
Starting point is 00:10:38 You know what the other thing? The human nose is really... You know what? You know what the other thing that the human nose is really, really good at smelling is rotten meat. So my guess more than likely if every, if the entire office was like on the verge of vomiting, and this guy actually vomited after eating it, that means this woman was cooking was straight up rancid meat. Then bring it into the office and microwaving it,
Starting point is 00:11:12 and nuking the entire office with rancid meat smell. This is the smell, by the way, that the human nose is most sensitive to on planet Earth. This lady, this lady's like, why would you buy meat when you can literally just go to the dumpster outside of any restaurant and find meat there and just add it to your food? You save so much money that way. Anyways OP, I'm glad this got resolved, but I think you need to take a good long look
Starting point is 00:11:41 in the mirror and ask yourself why you're so racist against Italians. Our next red-opposed comes from R-slash true off my chest. My girlfriend likes gaming, but sadly, all she has is a sucky Acer laptop. So she's mostly stuck playing mobile games or borrowing my PC if I'm not playing it. Today is my girlfriend's birthday and she's at work. I've installed her new PC next to mine so that we can game together, complete with a set of her favorite games. Devil May Cry, Genshin Impact, Elden Ring, The Witcher, etc.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I can't wait for my girlfriend to come home and see her reaction. Then OP post in an update. My girlfriend just got home one hour ago. I let her blindfolded to our gaming room. When she saw her new computer, the look on her face was priceless. She couldn't stop smiling. Her eyes were teary. My girlfriend hugged me very hard and kissed me a lot before she started to boot up the PC. She's happily playing some of the games right now while crying and giggling at the same time, joyously looking back and
Starting point is 00:12:43 forth at me in the monitor with a smile. I hope this kind of day lasts forever and that I can be with her until the end of time. I love her so much. That's sweet, OP. Though I'm wondering what it looks and sounds like to have someone crying and giggling at the same time. Let me give it a shot. Our next reddit post comes from our slash and my the bad guy. Am I the bad guy for not backing up for my family after my wife giggled at their news? I'm a 27 year old guy and I have a beautiful wife, Amara who's 26. So when I was 17, I had a girlfriend who cheated on me for my brother.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Me and my girlfriend had been together since kindergarten. Even though our relationship was fake in elementary school and middle school, we decided to make it official in high school. But after a year of making it official, my brother tells me that she and him were seeing each other behind my back. I was extremely hurt, especially since my parents knew, but they thought the relationship was still a playful one, even though I told them the news first. After that, I decided to just focus on school and move out of my parents' house, especially since my ex and my brother didn't have the decency to at least be romantically involved in private.
Starting point is 00:13:57 My ex still tried to apologize and asked if we could be friends, but I just ignored her. After I graduated, I moved to Texas at the age of 19, and only contacted my family on holidays. After being there for two years, I met Amara at a bakery that her mother owned, and we became friends first due to us both having trust issues, but we made it official a year after meeting. Our relationship was great. I loved her family, and they loved me. The wedding was absolutely wonderful, even though my parents and brother didn't come, even though I did send them an invitation and called them the day before the wedding. So, a week ago, my mother called me to ask if we could talk. She was on speakerphone since
Starting point is 00:14:39 Amara and I were cooking. Well, my mom goes on to tell me that my brother and my ex are getting married, and he wants me to be his best man. It was silent for a bit. Then Amara burst out with giggles and I joined in after her. My mom hung up and I didn't bother calling her back, so I just enjoyed my night with my wife. The next morning, I was been barred with texts from my brother and dad about how I hurt my mom's feelings and made her cry by not telling my wife to not laugh.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I don't think that I did anything wrong. I technically didn't do anything, but I can somewhat say that it was a childish spur of the moment type thing. So am I the bad guy for not telling my wife to not giggle? Then one week later, O.P. Post in an update. A week later, and after many, many rude texts from my brother and father, I decided to contact my brother and told him how it was unfair to not come to my wedding, but then ask me to come to his. Well, some of you were spot on. My brother didn't want to come to my wedding, so my mother made up a lie instead
Starting point is 00:15:43 of telling the truth. Also, he never even asked me to be his best man, so my mother made up a lie instead of telling the truth. Also he never even asked me to be his best man, nor was I even invited. I called my mother and asked her what the hell was going on, and she told me that she just wanted her sons to get along again. Even if I were to accept the now fake offer, the situation would have gone way worse since I wasn't invited. I've decided for the sake of my wife and I's future that I'll be limiting contact with my side of the family.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Huh? What was your mom's plan here? That you just show up to the wedding, expecting to be the best man, and then your brother's like, yo, what the hell are you doing here? And then your ex too is like, um, excuse me, you were invited to this wedding. I cheated on you, remember? Wouldn't that just make the situation worse? Not better.
Starting point is 00:16:27 What is your mom thinking? What she tried to do was the perfect situation to ruin her son's wedding. Your mom is dumb, OP. That was our slash best of redditor updates.
