Welcome to R-slash Best of Redditor updates, where a 25-year-old adult blackmail's a 15-year-old boy. Our next Reddit post is from R-slash relationships. Hi, everyone. So I've never used Reddit before. I'm 15 and I live in Pennsylvania with my sister.
Starting point is 00:01:02 I technically am supposed to be living with my mom, but she's always a way on business. I live with my sister 40 weeks out of the year. A while back, I tripped over the step and I knocked the table. Unfortunately for me, my sister had a flower vase on the table and it fell and shattered. I was freaking out because it looked really expensive and I thought she would kill me. It was stupid, but I tried to fix it with super glue. I know, again, it was stupid, but I didn't. was panicking. Her boyfriend came home and he saw what had happened. He told me to calm down,
Starting point is 00:01:34 we'll just go get another one. She got it from this online store and he ordered the exact same one from online. It cost 150 bucks. He told me that once I get a job, I have to pay him back the money. Two weeks ago, I went to go use the computer and my sister's boyfriend was still logged into his Facebook. You know how when you get a message on Facebook it pops up on your screen? That's what happened, but it had been there for a while, if that makes sense. I read the message this woman sent, and it said something about giving him a blowjob. I read through the messages, and it was basically sexting, sending nudes, and there was even times to meet up. I took photos of the conversation with my cell phone.
Starting point is 00:02:16 The more I started thinking about it, the more I was put off telling my sister. I thought that I really had no proof he slept with her, and I wasn't sure if this was cheating or not. It wasn't physically as far as I knew at the time. To my understanding, cheating is when you have sex with someone. Three nights ago I came home and walked in on my sister's boyfriend, making out with that same lady from Facebook. I arrived home earlier than I should have, and he kind of freaked out. He told me not to tell my sister because I owed him one.
Starting point is 00:02:46 He told me I still owed him money from the broken vase, and my sister would be pissed at me for breaking it in the first place. He's not here at the moment. I'm upstairs in my room and my sister is downstairs with her friend. I don't know what to do. This comment really sums it up. A $150 base is nothing compared to knowing that your boyfriend is cheating on you. Also, let her know that he's trying to blackmail you.
Starting point is 00:03:10 This guy is a douche. Yeah, I honestly can't tell what's worse. The cheating or blackmailing a 15-year-old as a 25-year-old guy, I think the cheating is worse, but they're both pretty bad. Then the same day, O.P. posted an update. I told my sister and showed her the proof. And the short version of events is she could care less about the vase. She was more upset about the blackmailing and cheating than anything. She rents her place. He just lives here like me. She texted him and told him not to bother coming home. If he comes, she'll call the cops. Yeah, I wouldn't feel too bad, O.P., all you did was speed up the discovery, considering a 15-year-old, no offense to 15-year-olds out there. figured out his cheating on two separate occasions, it's inevitable that the girlfriend would have figured it out as well. Our next Reddit post is from R-slash relationships. Oh boy, this is a doozy.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Travis and I have been together for one and a half years. I'm 28. He's 30. When we met, he was in a little bit of financial trouble, and I was able to help him, but I never offered because I didn't want money to become an object in our relationship so quickly. And he also has a good job with income to support himself. but not pay his massive student debt or bills just to support himself. A year into dating, after seeing that this relationship was promising, and we both agreed was hitting towards marriage at some point or another,
Starting point is 00:04:33 I told him I could help and pretty much insisted on doing so. I've paid off about $6,000 of debt so far, and I've been paying for his rental car every month, which is about $1,000 a month for the last three months. He has horrible credit, and I didn't have enough money to buy him a new car. I've been helping out with a few bills here and there. After some time, I was able to have enough to buy him a nice car and exactly what we wanted. We agreed to have my name on the title, but have him insured to drive it until we got married.
Starting point is 00:05:03 We live in a state that neighbors another state, three and a half hours away, that always has smoking deals on cars. We were all set to buy one, and then my medical bills from about a year ago came back to haunt me. I had ovarian cancer, but it's in remission, and it halted our tracks to buy the car for a few weeks until I could settle my bills or find a way to pay them off since the bill was quite expensive. They aren't kidding when they say that cancer is an expensive sickness. Anyways, that was about three weeks ago. Last night we went golfing, and I could tell that he was a little bit on edge and stressed out. So I asked him what was up. I'd gotten a little bit behind on paying the 200 bucks a week for the car rental, and he was feeling stressed since the bill was due and he had $10 in his account.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I told him I could write him a check later. I got home. late after our date, logged into my bank account only to find $2 in it. I flipped. There was a huge withdrawal from my account. I looked into what happened and lo and behold, when I was 24, my dad passed away and my mom had no income and was struggling. So I piggybacked her onto my account so that she could have some support. It worked out really well for a couple of years. Then she got a job and didn't need my help. But her name was never taken off my account. on my part. About six months ago, she ran off with her boyfriend to Germany. That was weird. And it really had an impact on me where I'm an only child and was left parentless. She cut off
Starting point is 00:06:34 all contact and really just kind of abandoned me. I've really struggled with it, but I mean people do weird things. Travis thought it was really strange at the time and almost didn't believe that my mom had just run off to Germany, but he's never met my mom. Anyways, I'm getting off track. Like I said, this is a doozy. My mom made the withdrawal. All my money. I had a long talk with my bank and an attorney, and I legally can't do anything about anything. Her name was on my account, and I supported her in the past. Legally, she didn't do anything wrong. Morally, yeah, that's messed up. I haven't been able to get a hold of her, and honestly, I really don't think I'm able to. So I texted Travis after all of this and told him about what was going on.
Starting point is 00:07:20 I asked him to be calm since I was freaking out and needed some moral support. His response, If you didn't want to help me out, you could just say so. He went on about how whenever he really needs help or I'm about to make a big purchase for him, there's something that just conveniently happens. These big things are just so rare that they don't happen. I get that, and I 100% understand his point of view. But I'm also frustrated and don't feel trusted.
Starting point is 00:07:47 But I get it. It's like Hollywood stuff status. I'm going over there later tonight after I gather myself since I'm stressing the hell out. I don't even know how to broach this with him where he can trust me. Help, I don't know what to do. Well, I can tell you the easy one is break up with this guy and take control of your own finances, please. Two weeks later, O.P. posted an update. The day of my post, I went over to his house that evening.
Starting point is 00:08:12 I'd scraped together some cash to give him, along with groceries and dinner from his favorite place to lighten the mood. Because, hey, I'm a giver. Anyways, I walked in as I usually do, and he was on his couch, and in front of him was a brand new golf bag. I just set the groceries on the fridge and told him what I got us for dinner. He said, I don't want it. I'm fine. I just brushed that comment off, since I really didn't want to argue with him. I asked him about his new golf bag, and he said he bought it with his club credit, which made me soften up a little bit. So I sat down in the recliner across from him and started scribbling on my notepad again,
Starting point is 00:08:50 plan for him and us with the budget and the way that he can afford a car. I told him the game plan, and he curtly said, sounds good. Then I went out into his backyard since I didn't want to deal with him, and I just sat outside and cried. He came outside and started fiddling with some stuff in his yard and didn't say a word to me. He said, so should I just plan on you not talking tonight? and then went on about how I've been such a source of disappointment for him financially. So I didn't say a word. I took the groceries and the dinner I bought and told him we're done and left. I blocked his number and he's no longer a part of my life.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Man, I don't want to be too harsh on O.P. here since she's clearly the victim in the situation, but she needs to grow a spine. She's basically a doormat. She makes some clearly questionable financial decisions. I don't know why they're golfing, a famously expensive hobby, when they're up to their eyeballs in debt and can't even afford to drive their own car to the golfing range. Still, the real criticism belongs with O.P.'s mom and her boyfriend's, because O.P.'s been supporting these people for years,
Starting point is 00:10:01 and the second she needs support, they immediately stab her in the back. Our next Reddit post is from Backpack Drama. I'm a 25-year-old woman, and I'm about to break up with my boyfriend of six months who's 26 over a backpack, but I need to know if I'm overreacting. My boyfriend Jacob and I have been together for half a year now. We met through mutual friends about two years ago. Jacob is a very laid-back guy, and maybe since I have a lot of anxiety, that attracted me to him. The past few months have been fun and without incident, until now. I thought that Jacob was a caring and thoughtful person, and I really saw it.
Starting point is 00:10:38 future with him, but now I'm reconsidering. So I have a backpack that's covered with patches. Before this happened, I had about 35 patches sewn onto it. This is a project that I started when I was 14 and needed a backpack for high school. Over the years, I collected patches from all the shows, concerts, and plays that I've gone to when I studied abroad and visited new cities and museums, gifts from family and friends, etc. When I was 20, the bottom of my backpack ripped out, so I got a new one and and carefully removed and reattached the patches. I don't carry a purse. I carry this backpack, literally every day.
Starting point is 00:11:16 It might seem silly, but a lot of my personal history and favorite memories are tied, sewn, to this backpack. On Wednesday, Jacob and I were hanging out at my place watching Netflix with two mutual friends. My apartment has a much larger living room than his does, so we tend to hang out at my place. I had to work early Thursday morning, so I went to bed a little earlier and just told Jacob to lock up, before he came to bed. The next morning, I go about getting ready for work, and I go to put some
Starting point is 00:11:43 things in my backpack. That's when I notice it's missing patches, 11 to be precise. I immediately wake Jacob up, basically panicking asking what happened. He told me he had invited three of his friends over after I'd gone to sleep. Apparently, they texted him because they were bar hopping nearby, and he told them to come over. At some point, one of them saw my backpack sitting in the living room and said it was cool and they wanted one like it. And Jacob told them they could have some patches if they wanted. So they cut 11 patches off my back. I'm livid.
Starting point is 00:12:20 I still am. I can't really describe how betrayed I feel. A few of my patches were gifts from my father who passed away last year. He always loved helping me find new patches and bought me three limited release patches that are now very expensive and difficult to find. Those are all gone. I had one patch that my dad bought in 1994 and he let me have. That's gone as well.
Starting point is 00:12:44 Patches from my study abroad trip are gone too. I feel so devastated. I'm not proud of my reaction. I flipped the F out. A lot of what the F were you thinking and how could you do this? I told him he had to call his friends that were over and get all the patches back. He said that he would ask for the ones from my dad, but he would look too bad if he asked for the rest that didn't mean as much.
Starting point is 00:13:09 I asked him if he cared more about looking like a jackass to them or me. He hesitated and I freaked out and I told him he had to leave. I messaged the people that I know were over on Facebook and got a response back from one person, one of the mutual friends. He brought my patches back Thursday night. He said he thought it was weird that Jacob offered but went along with it and he apologized. So now I only have nine patches missing. I know it sounds silly, but I just feel so sick over it.
Starting point is 00:13:39 I texted Jacob today about getting my dad's patches back, and he said he was going to contact them on the weekend. What's the point of waiting? I talked to a couple close friends about what happened and told them I wanted to break up over this. They both saw this as an overreaction, and that I should let it go and get more patches. Everyone seems to think that because those patches are cheap,
Starting point is 00:14:01 I shouldn't be so upset and should forgive him. I need to know if I'm overreacting. My feelings are maybe I was being hysterical when I confronted Jacob, and I didn't deal with it in the best way. But he hasn't been proactive about fixing the situation. He's only texted me once to tell me he was contacting his friends on the weekend. I'm so frustrated and hurt, and I'm not sure how I'll trust him again after this.
Starting point is 00:14:25 And before anyone asks, he absolutely knew what that backpack meant to me. Once, when we were about a month into dating, he asked me to give him the backstory of each patch, and he's seen me carry it every day. Then, ten years later, OP posted an update. Through the course of everything, I learned that my ex wasn't laid back. He just didn't care. Very different things.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I did get all the patches back. A few people were very apologetic, and immediately went out of their way to return them. A few people I had to show up at their place with a friend in tow. Looking someone in the eyes and saying, You have a patch that my dead father gave when I was 14 worked pretty well. Basically, all of them blamed my ex. It's okay, I blamed him too.
Starting point is 00:15:12 He never truly apologized. He just wanted me to be less mad without fixing anything. I was very passive back then, and I don't think I'd ever been as angry as that moment. I went scorched earth and told everyone what he did. He was mad about that, but I didn't care. shouldn't have done it if he didn't want me to talk about it. A few of my friends apologize for taking his side, but our friendship wasn't ever really the same
Starting point is 00:15:38 after that. Months, maybe even a year after all this went down, my sister and I were going through a storage unit of my dads to clear it out. We found one of his old backpacks, nothing special, just a Jansport. I cleaned it out and that was the new base. I still have it to this day, and I've added new patches since. What I want to know is, why did people respond by saying, whatever, they're just patches, get new patches. Instead of saying, whatever, he's just a bad boyfriend, get a new boyfriend.
