Starting point is 00:00:00 My name is Peter Parker, but I'm also Spider-Man. This July, we're faced with a threat. That can be anyone. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker. I'm just a neighbor, friendly neighbor. But he hasn't forgotten them. Sometimes Spider-Man has to do the hard thing. That's my responsibility.
Starting point is 00:00:20 Talk to Banner? I didn't know you could get that big. Spider-Man, brand-new day in theaters July 31st. The original series Furious is coming to Disney Plus, starring Emmy Rossum. Furious follows FBI agent Alice Black on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur. Don't miss the three-episode premiere of the Hulu original series Furious on July 27th,
Starting point is 00:00:57 only on Hulu on Disney Plus. Welcome to R-slash nuclear revenge, where a lady chops up her husband. Our next Reddit post is from deleted. When finishing up my degree in criminal justice, we had to learn how the justice system works and how sometimes it doesn't. For about two weeks, we studied a case from the early 90s of a woman that killed her husband. Because the case is public record and a very interesting read, look up Betty Freeberg, 1993.
Starting point is 00:01:26 The setting was small town Iowa, and the husband was a town. drunk. Everyone in town knew him for a drunk, a brawler, a womanizer, and overall just a bad person. His wife was a stay-at-home mom, and she wasn't allowed to work or leave the house, aside from getting groceries. He would go home, beat her, and violate her sexually, and the cycle would go on and on and on, and the whole town knew. Neighbors were a quarter mile down the road, but still would call the police when they heard noises. It was well documented, and because he was never a threat to their daughter, the police did nothing aside from take him to jail like a revolving door. Each time he got out, he'd beat her up again. Their daughter was away at college, but came home for
Starting point is 00:02:09 Thanksgiving. While the father was at work, the daughter told the mother that her father had violated her sexually and that she had even had an abortion because of it. This was the breaking point for the mother. She got her revenge a hundredfold. When the daughter went back to school after the holidays and the husband came home, she killed him with his gun at the kitchen table. The table is important because it was a big farm table used for chopping up deer and other livestock. Doing the butchering was her job, and she was good at it. If I could find the case report, it has pictures of the table and clear marks of chopping. She chopped up her husband and scattered his body over neighboring farms, fed what she could to her livestock and cleaned up. Months went by and winter came and left.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Police investigating his disappearance even questioned her while sitting at that table drinking coffee. She explained the marks on the table by explaining that she butchered her own meat and showed the officer her deep freeze. The investigation went on for months until finally a neighbor's dog brought back a body part. They identified it as belonging to the husband and she was arrested on the spot. She pled not guilty and refused any offers. It went to trial, and 12 of her peers judged her not guilty due to extenuating circumstances. She confessed to the crime, explained why she did it, and how, and that she had no real choice because no one was going to help her. The farm was hers, and she refused to give it up as it had been her
Starting point is 00:03:41 family home. She was let go entirely for the murder charge. The next week, we had Betty as a speaker to the class to discuss the case, and she was awesome. At the time, she, ironically, sold dismemberment insurance for Affleck. Betty, if you ever read this, know that you're seen as a figurehead for battered women, and you pulled off the best revenge I've ever been able to study. Keep in mind, guys, if you want to beat a murder charge, all you need is to convince one jury member that you're innocent. That's all it takes is one, because the entire jury has to agree on a guilty verdict. And I guess that's what happened here. At least one of the jury members was like, nah, the guy had it gumming. Our next Reddit post.
Starting point is 00:04:23 from Severin. A few years ago, at the age of 22, I was diagnosed with epilepsy, which came out of the blue. In my appointments with the epilepsy nurse and my neurologist, I was informed that I had suffered measles when I was around 13 months old, and was not fully vaccinated against it. Upon returning home, I spoke with my sister and remarked that I had never heard of this before. My sister decided that I had the right to know what she knew of the story. However, she was only 8 years old at the time and was unsure of the true extent of what had transpired. The story that she told me is as follows. Shortly after I was born, a family moved on to R Street, and they had a son who was around my sister's age. My sister was not fond of him. He was a bit pushy, but not in an unkind way. He likely
Starting point is 00:05:11 just wanted to make friends, and he pushed his way into playing with other children. My sister, however, has an anxiety disorder, and has had it for a long time, and she didn't really appreciate his behavior, finding him quite intimidating. She knew very little about his parents and has never actually spoken to them. About a year later, I came down with the measles and was rushed to the hospital with severe complications. My sister explained that, as far as she was aware, the family was opposed to vaccinations and believed that the only way to build up natural immunity was to be infected with a virus. As such, when their unvaccinated son contracted the measles, the first thing they thought of was to do the other families on the street a favor and send their infectious son out to play
Starting point is 00:05:58 with the other children without warning anybody. As a quick side for those listening, you might be wondering, oh, well, what's the big deal? The neighbors didn't vaccinate their kid, and OP wasn't vaccinated either, so isn't it all fair? No, not exactly, because you can't get all your vaccinations immediately upon birth. Some vaccinations can only come at like age one or two, so the hope is that a baby isn't exposed to those illnesses before they can get the vaccination. Anyways, back to the story. My sister inadvertently brought the virus into the house, and we were both infected. She shrugged it off, but I wasn't so lucky.
Starting point is 00:06:33 21 years later, I would find out that this virus and the seizures that it caused at the time caused scarring in my brain that's left me with epilepsy and all the joys that come with that. Lovely stuff. I returned from the hospital after an anticlimactic recovery, and And a month later, the family disappeared. Until recently, this was all that I knew of the situation. My parents were understandably traumatized by the whole thing,
Starting point is 00:06:59 and they didn't like to talk about it. So I dropped it into conversation with an elderly neighbor who was not in any way affiliated with what happened at the time. I was informed that while I was in the hospital, my grandmother, who had passed away, had confronted the family over what they'd done during a time when it was still possible that I might have died. Their response made my grandmother,
Starting point is 00:07:20 livid, and she had gone around telling everyone what they said, which was essentially something to the effect of, you should be thanking us, O.P. will be much safer now that she's had it. She'll have a more natural immunity now. To my neighbor's knowledge, nobody like that, and for good reason. On top of that, my parents didn't feel safe with those neighbors around, and there were other infants on the street who were my age or younger. People hurtled abuse at the neighbor, and they ended up leaving to stay with relatives before the house. could even be sold. It was only recently that the extent of the abuse was relayed to me by another neighbor who may or may not have taken part. The neighbor's tires were slashed multiple times,
Starting point is 00:08:01 almost as soon as they were replaced. Their car was keyed. When people weren't hurtling abuse at them in the street, they wrote handwritten letters calling them every obscene name under the sun, and reminding them that they could have been responsible for my death, posting them through their mailbox and sticking them to their windows and doors. The resident baseball boy, with the blessing of everyone present, tore their letterbox off the wall and smashed it in with a baseball bat. One of the residents on the street had a pair of cats, and when they brought any little presents home, she would scoop up the unfortunate prey with a shovel and leave them on the neighbor's doorstep. This evolved to include the waste of the cats too, and another neighbor who had a dog decided to do the
Starting point is 00:08:45 same thing with his dog's droppings. This would be done primarily when the toxic neighbors were out of the house. And this was being done in the heat of summer. So you can only imagine the smell and the cloud of flies that would be wafting around their porch when they returned hours later. The owner of the dog even went as far as to smear the droppings all over their door handle and as much of their front window as he could. While the abuse and letters kept up, People very quickly stopped leaving droppings and such on their porch, or sticking the letters to their windows because unfortunately their young lad, who was about seven or eight, got caught in the crossfire. Some of the older children caught on to the fact that their parents didn't like his family and began to bully him without really ever knowing why his family was hated so much. And this ended up reaching him at school.
Starting point is 00:09:34 To their credit, they realized that he likely didn't understand what was going on and it wasn't his fault. so they dialed it back a bit and kept the abuse to where only the parents could see. This family was so distressed that they took their kids and ran off to a relative's house. The house was sold in their absence. I wondered aloud why the police weren't called, because some of the perpetrators were very obvious. At which point, I was informed that these people had an inherent distrust of any and all authority figures, and they held the belief that the system was against them, that they were being oppressed, and that the police would sweep it all under the rug,
Starting point is 00:10:10 so they just left instead of exposing their son to the biased police, which is really baffling to me. Because in my country, their community is a majority, and they'd be more likely to receive supports. So the moral of the story is, vaccinate your children, folks. Our next Reddit post is from deleted. My wife and I once lived in an apartment complex
Starting point is 00:10:30 in our first year and a half of marriage. Male mix-ups were common there, so it was a bi-weekly routine to take a very quick, trip to the main office, drop off a mislabeled package, and hit home. Jump a year into the future, and we have a home and are taking care of foster kids that have just recently entered the system. We desperately want them to have a good Christmas, since life has dealt them so many bad hands. Just once, I want them to experience a Christmas where they feel more valued than drugs, and get more out of the holidays than sexual abuse thanks to their biological family. We ordered their gifts
Starting point is 00:11:05 off a site that we used to order more frequently from, but haven't ordered gifts from there in a while. We found the perfect gifts. They were on sale, so that allowed us to get more for them, and everything was falling right into place. But then, it happened. A day later, we checked our email, and to our horror, we realized the computer saved our old address, and even though we originally put in the right address, the computer auto-filled the rest of the information. That sent the packages to the old apartment complex. We called the shippers, and they wouldn't help us at all. So we called the apartment complex to try to get ahead of this before they were delivered. This was all going well. Until the current resident of our old apartment completely overreacted to the news.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Out of the four boxes that were delivered to that complex, he only returned one and threatened, if this happens again, I'm going to destroy these gifts. Turns out, he had all the packages and was keeping them knowing full well that we live fairly close and that they were for foster kids. We called and contacted the complex multiple times, and they had the same sad news. Either the guy wouldn't return a call, or he would just angrily hang up. So I took a drive past my old apartment. I saw what car he drove, and then I saw that he obviously had some sort of family. I had one of two choices.
Starting point is 00:12:28 I thought of letting it go. I thought about the spirit of Christmas and how the new year was a mark of a new start. Then I thought of him bringing stolen gifts to other people because this scum dweller wouldn't buy gifts for the ones around him either. This is when things turn dark in my mind. He tried to take gifts away from foster kids who have had their home taken from them. Why not take Christmas from him? Why not take away his home? Whatever he's experienced in life to lead to this event, I want him to suffer even more for this injustice.
Starting point is 00:13:00 In a right mindset, I talked to a cop friend of mine, and there wasn't much of my. that I could do without going to small claims court and spending a good bit of money. I even posted to R slash legal advice to get some help and got similar answers. The plan was executed as follows. I parked on a hilltop overlooking the complex. Luckily, the apartment is close to the base of the hill, so I had a perfect spot to observe. After I waited for the guy to come home, I made note of his vehicle to confirm that was indeed his car, and then went to the store.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I picked up several dozen eggs and a can of spray paint and went back home to the to await nightfall. I went back out around 2 a.m. I pre-mixed the eggs and kept all the shells. I went to a more secluded spot away from the complex where I knew that I could park and find a route that didn't have any sort of security cameras. I snuck up carrying a bowl of pre-beat eggs, the shells, and the spray paint in my hoodie pockets. I carefully laid the ingredients down that would be used to concoct my revenge. I was shaking. I'm still shaking as I write this. I pulled out the spray paint and used Home Wrecker on the hood of his car. Then I poured the eggs from the roof and poured towards the back as to not let the mixture ruin the message of the hood. I laid the
Starting point is 00:14:14 eggshells around the car. I placed a note on the bush outside of his door that read, Fertilize these eggs, in hopes that his wife or partner would see it. Then I used a pocket knife and flatten the driver front and passenger rear tire. I was going to flatten a third tire, but I saw some headlights of someone hitting into the complex, so I had to bail. I made my way back carefully to my car and drove off. I don't know how all of this had an effect on him, but I'm afraid to go back again and check on things without raising suspicion. So far, no one has reached out to me to ask about the incident.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Merry Christmas. Our next Reddit posts is from Matt Bradley. So years ago, I was working for a laboratory that did a lot of testing for the military. It was a terrible job for a number of reasons. Despite having enormous responsibility, they never gave me credit for anything. In meetings with the department hid, they frequently blamed me for the problems that they had caused. But problems that I'd solved and they could not. They also hired consultants to come in and tell me I was wrong, only to have the consultant say that I was right, and the consultants would get paid one quarter of
Starting point is 00:15:24 my yearly salary for just one day's worth of work. I only stayed as long as I did because it was my first real job and I honestly didn't know better. But before I left, by their own standards, I was severely underpaid. HR agreed. They claimed there was nothing that could be done. Meanwhile, other people were given off-schedgedged. Well, I wasn't the only one that was underpaid. There were a number of others as well. But none of them were critical to the operation of the laboratory. Eventually, the department head went to the director with the list of all the underpaid people. I found out that my name was on the top of the list as the most underpaid person. Not surprising.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Using this list, the department had got permission from the director for one-time raises. An announcement was made. Well, guess who didn't get a raise? This, despite the fact that I'd made massive improvements in some of their processes that easily saved them millions per year. And their budget was just over 10 million bucks. I was livid. I had enough and decided to leave.
Starting point is 00:16:28 They hired two people to replace me at more than double my salary. One of them had just graduated two weeks before. From what I understand, they had a lot of difficulty. That would have been enough for most people, and maybe even for me, for most of my life. But it wasn't enough for them. I wanted revenge for what they'd done to me. So I arranged a meeting with one of the project managers from the Department of the military that we had done our tests for. I casually mentioned to him that I'd left my old job.
Starting point is 00:16:58 He was shocked. Remember how I said that they never gave me credit for anything? Well, the military considered me an invaluable expert and couldn't understand why the lab had driven me away. They immediately pulled several million dollars worth of work from the lab and gave it to the competition because they had no confidence the lab could do the work anymore. When I ran into one of the lab managers,
Starting point is 00:17:22 I casually mentioned my meeting with the PM, and I could tell he figured out how the military knew I'd left. It took them years to recover, and honestly, I don't know if they ever really did. Last time I checked their webpage, it hasn't been updated in at least 12 years. I would have been happy with a 20K raise, ecstatic even. But they weren't willing to spend 20K and lost 2 million to start and more in the long run. I started my own business and now make at least five times what I would if I'd stayed there until now. I lived near D.C. where there is a lot of government contractors, and it's pretty common for companies to have 50%, sometimes even 100% of their income coming from
Starting point is 00:18:08 a single government contract. We're talking massive businesses with like 100 plus employees, millions of dollars on revenue or whatever, so if they lose that one government contract, they are utterly screwed. So OP's story sounds about right. slash nuclear revenge. And if you like this content, be sure to follow my podcast because I put out new Reddit podcast episodes every single day.
