Welcome to R slash relationships, where OP discovers that his sister, who hates his guts, is actually his mom who hates his guts. Our next Reddit post is from Throad Human. I'm a 19-year-old guy, and I recently found out that my 35-year-old sister, who's hated me my whole life, is my biological mother. I never had any idea before. She was always hateful towards me, but I kind of assumed that my arrival had changed a bunch within the family, and maybe there was less money for her to go to college or something because I was born and so she took it out on me.
Starting point is 00:01:36 When I was seven or eight, my parents, or biologically my grandparents, had to end their relationship with her because she was so hateful towards me. She called me names every time she saw me and she was aggressive towards me. Like if I sat too close to her, she would tell me to get the F away from her or she'd push me. She would tell me to leave the effing family because nobody wanted me and I was a disgusting freak. She even tried to convince my other siblings, actually my aunts and uncles, to lock me out of the house if my parents weren't home and let me run away. They told our parents, and when they confronted my sister, she told them life would be so much better if I ran away and got hit by a car in the process. So that was it for them with her. But even without direct contact,
Starting point is 00:02:22 I was aware of how hateful she still was about me. I heard adults in the family discuss it. I heard my siblings talk about it. Nobody ever brought up the fact that I was her biological kid. When my sister found out, that I found out, she told me she hated me and that I never deserved to exist. She said she wanted to see me broken and mangled, and that if I ever called her my mom or my mother, she would find some way to end me. She said she was repulsed even looking at me, and that she owed me nothing, and that she wasn't here to answer any of my questions. And she told me if I wanted to do everyone a favor, I could go and kill myself. My parents went nuts when they found out. This has really shaken me because I suspect something bad happened to my sister and that's why I exist. But I have
Starting point is 00:03:11 no way to really know. My parents don't even know. They'd always planned on telling me, but the way my sister has treated me gave them pause. I think they worry that it would be super damaging to feel so hated by the person who gave birth to me, especially when we don't know for sure something bad happened or if she maybe just hates my biological father. The whole thing has made my relationship with some of my extended family weird. I still call my parents my parents and my siblings my siblings, which some find weird. But I also just have so many weird feelings about my sister. I don't know how to feel about her. But I'm afraid to say that she's my biological mother when speaking, and even in the post, I prefer to say sister because it feels safer. I'm feeling kind of lost,
Starting point is 00:03:57 and I'm not sure if my relationship should change or not, or if I should be angry with my close family for not telling me, because I'm not angry with them. In all honesty, I think it's messed me up, knowing how much my biological mother hates me, and if I found out as a kid, I know that would have been worse. O.P., I think one thing you can do is stop making excuses for your sister-slash-mom. Don't be like, oh, maybe something bad happened to her,
Starting point is 00:04:24 because even if something bad happened to her that doesn't excuse this behavior, she can't treat you like this. Being abused or whatever doesn't make it okay to constantly trash on an innocent little boy. So I think the best thing you could do is stop asking, oh, what should I do? I don't know how to feel about my sister slash mom and just cut her out of your life and stop feeling anything about her at all because she's not worth the time.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I know some people would probably rather O.P. work it out with his sister slash mom, but in my opinion there's no coming back. from this. Our next Reddit post is from Throwaway Custardly. My 42-year-old mom walked out on me, a 22-year-old woman, when I was five years old. She and my dad were no longer together at the time. Very early one morning while I was asleep at her house, she carried me out to her car and drove me to Dad's house. I woke up as she was beating and kicking his door until he answered, and she yelled something at him and then told me to get out of the car and make sure I had everything she packed. There were like two bags.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And that was it. I didn't see her again for 16 years. Life was good with me and dad for a few years, but when I was nine, he started acting erratic and not himself. My mom's parents were still in the picture and tried to help. But my dad was getting worse and worse. My mom's parents informed my mom of what was going on, and she refused to do anything. When CPS finally got involved, after dozens of reports from my grandparents, I was already 14, and my dad was very unstable and unsafe. My mom was contacted and again, didn't want to know about me. So my grandparents took over custody of me. My dad passed away three years ago after years of mentally struggling. I never found out why he got so sick so suddenly, but he was not the dad that I knew for the first nine years of my life. This has been
Starting point is 00:06:17 difficult, but I was lucky to have some family on my side. Back in fact, My mom moved her whole family close to my grandparents. My mom had a whole second do-over family with a husband and some kids, but I'm not sure how many kids she has exactly. My grandparents told her she doesn't get to just reappear like nothing happened and have everything be okay between them. They pointed out her abandoning me twice and showing no concern for my safety. She told them she was planning to make amends with me,
Starting point is 00:06:49 but that she needed their help. They told her they would need to speak to me first, and I told them I had some questions for mom, so I would meet her once. My mom gave me no answers for why she left, nor did she seem to care. She was not very believable when she told me it was the most difficult decision ever. But I do believe she has regrets. I think her biggest regret is burning the bridge with me, so I won't ever be open to a relationship with her current family, including her other children. And before anyone says it, I know the kids are innocent. I know they're technically my half-siblings. Those two things don't change how I feel. I've seen her twice since then.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Both times she showed up unannounced to my grandparents' house when I was coming or going from there. I no longer live with them, by the way. She tried to force introductions, but I ignored her. Another time, she was visiting my grandparents, and she tried to use my grandma's phone to call me, but grandma caught her. She sent me a social media DM last week that radiated with anger, where she called me out for refusing to have a relationship with her do-over family. She also requests that we sit down and talk without my grandparents next time. O.P., unfortunately, I think nothing's really changed. She didn't care about you when you were five or when you were ten, and she doesn't really seem to care about you now either. The only real difference is that now her disrespect is more in your face.
Starting point is 00:08:18 So if I were you, I would just cut her out and go no contact because I really don't see any good coming from this relationship, if you can even call it that. Our next Reddit post is from competitive form. I'm a 33-year-old woman, and my boyfriend is 42. He brought me a gift after my doctor's appointment about weight gain. The gift was mayonnaise. Please tell me if I've entered an alternate reality, or if he's just being a jerk. My boyfriend and I have been together for three and a half years. We live separately, keep our finances separate, and I have a child.
Starting point is 00:08:51 For context, I've gained about 40 pounds over the past year. I'm 5'11, currently 190 pounds, and I had a doctor's appointment today specifically to discuss my labs, hormones, and weight gain. Our relationship has been struggling a bit. We went from passionately hugging almost daily to maybe once a month. My libido isn't the issue. He says he's still attracted to me, but he also drops comments such as, If you go outside an exercise, I'm sure it'll be easier than you think.
Starting point is 00:09:21 How are you hungry? You should really take better care of yourself. So imagine my surprise when this man comes home after my doctor's appointment and proudly presents me with a gift. Y'all, it was mayonnaise. Not flowers, not a coffee, not a snack I actually like. A full-sized jar of mayonnaise. When I asked why, he said, I cook like I'm from the meal. Midwest. He only eats Miracle Whip. I asked why he didn't buy the thing he actually eats,
Starting point is 00:09:52 and he responded that he could never eat mayonnaise because that stuff is so bad for you. At this point, my brain blue-screensed. I finally said, so you bought your fat girlfriend mayonnaise immediately after her doctor's appointment about her weight? WTF? He thinks I'm being ungrateful and overreacting over a condiment. I feel like mayonnaise itself isn't the issue. You It's the timing, the comments about my eating and exercise, and the fact that somehow Hellmans became the emotional support condiment for our failing love life. So am I being ridiculous, or was this gift approximately one step above bringing your struggling girlfriend a bathroom scale and a family-sized bag of celery?
Starting point is 00:10:38 Because right now, I honestly can't tell whether this man is passive-aggressive, socially clueless or secretly employed by Big Mayo. I'll be straight with you guys. I literally do not understand what happened in this story. Why did he give her mayonnaise? Can anyone explain this to me in the comments? I assume this is some like jab at her, but if it is, I don't get the jab. Like when OP said bringing her a bathroom scale and celery, yeah, that's an obvious insult. The message is, here, fatty, you should watch your weight and eat celery instead of eating fattening stuff. But isn't a jar of mayonnaise the exact opposite? It's not like saying,
Starting point is 00:11:16 hey, I don't care about your weight, eat whatever you want, including mayonnaise? I don't get it. This doesn't make any sense. Is this guy just a dupus? I'm with O.P. Man, my brain's blue-screens. It feels like it's supposed to be insulting.
Starting point is 00:11:30 The situation definitely feels like it's supposed to be insulting. I just don't get it. I don't know, man. I guess the message is, you're fat, so you like mayonnaise. And that's funny somehow. People in the comments are saying to dump him because he's mean. I say dump him because he doesn't understand how to make a joke, even mean ones.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Our next Reddit post is from Throwaway Sundbadu. When I was in elementary school, my parents took in a family friend's kid for six months. When they were staying with us, my parents were very attentive towards them, and they put a lot of emphasis onto making sure that they felt welcome and supported while stuff was going on with their family. I got lost and forgotten in that. My parents would forget promises they made to me, they would cancel last minute without telling me, and they could never find the time for me, one of them, let alone both. They addressed it twice with me.
Starting point is 00:12:23 The first time, about a month in, I was told that it wouldn't be for very long, and it was good that I was understanding and mature about this. The second time, I was told that it needed to be that way, and I needed to take a back seat because I didn't carry the trauma and emotion those kids were feeling. And my parents told me I needed to step up and be a young man and forget about myself while they were with us. Those kids eventually went home to their parents and that was that. Only it left my parents with the urge to foster and adopt because they could only have me and they always wanted more kids. The plan was to foster as many kids as they could and hopefully along the way some would be eligible for adoption already.
Starting point is 00:13:07 They started the process to get approved and passed a lot of stuff on their own. One of the final hurdles was we all had to be interviewed individually, and during my interview, I told the lady that I didn't want us to be a foster family. I told the officials what happened with the family friends' kids, and I said that I didn't want to come last to a bunch of foster and adopted kids. A couple of questions were asked about whether I'd be welcoming to foster children in our home, and my reply was basically not if they took my parents away from me. That's how I viewed it at the time. As an adult, I know that it was on my parents and not the kids. What I said was enough for their fostering application to be rejected. My parents asked about what they needed to do, and I was mentioned in some way.
Starting point is 00:13:55 I still don't know what exactly my parents were told, but they had an idea of what I said, and they've hated me ever since. They never forgave me or understood why I felt the way I did, and our relationship has worsened more and more. over the years. Just last month, my parents told me I selfishly robbed them of the chance to do more good and grow our family at the same time. O.P., I am so solidly on your side, because what are your parents thinking getting more kids when they can't even take care of the one kid they already have? You mean to tell me that having two kids is too much for them and they have to emotionally neglect one of those kids to support the others? Then clearly they are. are not cut out for fostering or adoption. You did the right thing, OP. Your parents are objectively
