Starting point is 00:00:04 Let's do this! Thank you so much for tuning into today's story. Don't forget to rate and follow, so you never miss out on all the Ryers, readers, fun. Before we get into the story, do you want to know a fun fact? Did you know that a long time ago when ice skating was new, early skates were made from animal bones? People would use these animal bone ice skates to skate across frozen ponds. Pretty cool, huh? Okay, story time. Today, we are going to read Disney Jr., Fancy Nancy, Ice Skater Extraordinaire, by Krista Tucker. Ooh la la, I like to imagine I am an amazing.
Starting point is 00:01:07 ice skater extraordinaire. That's fancy for extraordinary. I do fancy leaps and spins. The crowd adores me. Tadda! Practically an expert at ice skating in my living room, so I thought I'd be even better on ice. I only tripped and fell once when Jojo threw the flowers before I took my curtsy. A curtsy is a fancy move ice skaters do at the end of their dance. The first time I went to a real ice rink was with my best friend Bree. I was going to leap and spin and twirl. I got my rental skates, but they looked tattered.
Starting point is 00:01:57 That's fancy for old. Bree and I used ribbons and hair clips to fancy them up. Voila! We headed onto the ice. it onto the ice. Time to be extraordinary. I kept falling down. The ice was slipperier than my living room. I was lucky Bree was there to help me. I was almost 100% positive. My skates were broken. But mom said I just needed to practice. She brought me a walker to help me stay balanced. Disappointed. I thought I was was going to be extraordinary. I told Bree the bad, awful, terrible news.
Starting point is 00:02:54 She said she used a walker when she started skating too. I told Bree if I couldn't be an extraordinary skater, I just wasn't going to skate at all. Bree decided to skate without me. Then I remembered that having fun and skating with Bree was what mattered. But there was just one thing we needed to do first. Now the walker was something I could use.
Starting point is 00:03:31 We headed on to the ice. Bree gave me tips. She said to glide more than step, and look where I was going. I practiced and practiced and soon improved. Maybe one day I'll be an ice skater extraordinaire. But for now, it's extraordinary to go ice skating with my best friend. The end. Don't forget to stick around to see if you can answer today's paying attention question.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Before you go, do you think you can answer today's paying attention question? Tattered is a fancy word. What does the word tattered mean? If your answer was old, you did it! Great job! You sure were paying attention! I hope you enjoyed that story. I wonder what we're going to read next.
