Before we get into the story, do you want to know a fun fact? Did you know dolphins sleep with one half of their brains at a time? In order to keep breathing and to be aware of danger, they allow only one half of their brains. of their brains to go to sleep. They will close their left eye for the left side of their brain to sleep
Starting point is 00:00:44 and then switch to their right side to rest the other half. Pretty cool, huh? Okay, story time. Today, we have a very special Ryers Readers' Readers' request for Jackson. We will be reading, How Do You Go to Sleep? by Kate McMullen. I hope you enjoy this story, Jackson.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Let's do it. ...cirls up inside her den within a hollow tree. Octopus changes colors as he slumbers under sea. Parrot stands on one foot and tucks his head in his feathers. Mere Cat sleeps in a heap of family all together. How do you go to sleep? Is a tree your cozy bed? Do you turn purple, orange, and red? Rest your head upon your back?
Starting point is 00:01:56 Sleep with others in a stack? No. Zebra locks his knees and stays standing up all night. Tiger naps in a leafy shade to hide her stripes from sight. Frog hibernates all winter under a snow so deep. Dolphin shuts just one eye and goes swimming in her sleep. How do you go to sleep? Do you stand and lock your knees?
Starting point is 00:02:36 Is your bed beneath the leaves? Is your blanket made of snow? Do you sleep swim to and fro? No. Mouse digs a tunnel, then she snoozes underground. Pigeon perches with his friends where shelter can be found. Seal pokes out her snout and doze floats in the bay. Skunk runs around all night, then sleeps the day away.
Starting point is 00:03:11 How do you go to sleep? Do you burrow underground? Roost with all your pals around? Do you float until the dawn? Does the sunrise make you yawn? No. Well, when you go to bed, if you don't sleep a tree sleep or a sea sleep,
Starting point is 00:03:37 a tuck sleep or a heap sleep, a stand sleep or a leaf sleep, a snow sleep or a swim sleep, a nest sleep or a perch sleep, a float sleep, or a sun sleep, how do you go to sleep? Do you first turn off the light? Do you wish the moon good night? Do you close your tired eyes? Listen to some lullabies? Do you think about your day and all the fun you had and at play?
