Starting point is 00:00:12 A big hug and a high five to all the Ryer's readers listeners. Welcome to your March bonus episode. We have a lot of stuff to get into today. But before we get started, are you ready for the silly joke of the day? Why do people wear sham rocks on St. Patrick's Day? Because regular rocks are too heavy. And we're back. Happy March!
Starting point is 00:00:46 There are always reasons to celebrate, and this month I found a whole bunch of fun, small holidays we can take part in to add some more celebrations to the month of March. Mark your calendars, because here are a few of the special days coming up that you can enjoy. March 1st is Peanut Butter Lover's Day. March 6th is Oreo Cookie Day. March 9th is Barbie. day. March 12th is Plant a Flower Day. March 17th is St. Patrick's Day. March 19th is Earth Day. March 26th is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. And March 31st is Easter. What fun holidays will you be celebrating? I am looking forward to Make Up Your Own Holiday Day.
Starting point is 00:01:46 This year, March 26th will be Ryer's Reader's Day. And to celebrate, we should all read three books and drink hot chocolate. I would love to know how you participate in any of these fun holidays this month. Don't forget to look for rainbows and a pot of gold on the 17th and get extra whipped cream on your hot chocolate for Ryers' Reader's Day. However you celebrate, I hope this March is full. filled with fun. And we're back.
Starting point is 00:02:25 At the beginning of every month, I'm going to give you a monthly challenge. Are you ready to hear your challenge for the month of March? This month, I challenge all of you to a March Madness Reading Challenge. I want to invite all the Ryer's Readers' listeners to go on their own story adventures through the month of March. The goal of this challenge is to read a new book each week. I want you to challenge yourself by reading stories about different topics and themes. If you read a story about princesses on your first week, maybe read a sports story on your second week.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Keep track of your progress by creating a reading log. And at the end of the month, pick your favorite book that you read in March and draw a picture about your favorite part. I would love to hear all about how you did on this month's March. Madness Reading Challenge. Good luck and I hope you all become a monthly challenge champion. And we're back. Can you guess what time it is? If you guessed story time, you did it! Today we are going to read Pete the Cat's Train trip by James Dean. Pete the Cat is going to visit his grandma. He gets to ride on a train. Pete's mom buys three tickets. She gives one to Pete and one to his brother Bob.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Pete looks up at the big board. Our train is leaving at 10 o'clock, he says. A train speeds by. That's a cargo train, Bob tells Pete. Pete's train has arrived. All aboard, calls the conductor. Pete's mom finds three seats. I can't wait to see Grandma, says Bob.
Starting point is 00:04:36 I can't wait to explore the train, says Pete. The conductor comes to collect the tickets. Pete hands his over. I love trains, says Pete. I'll show you around, says the conductor. Pete follows the conductor from car to car as the floor rumbles under his feet. Pete says when they get to. to the caboose. We're going over a bridge. Pete sees his mom and Bob. They are at the snack bar.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I got this for you, says Bob. Pete follows the conductor. He goes to the front of the train. Come in, says the engineer shows him the engine. The engineer shows him the engine. The engineer shows Pete's brakes. There is a tunnel up ahead. As they go through the tunnel, Pete gets to honk the horn. Tootoo-to-ing is light again. Thanks for showing me around, Pete says. On his way back to his seat, Pete stops and makes new friends. They live in different towns.
Starting point is 00:05:59 They are getting off at different stops. Pete plays games. A little kid wears his hat. Pete sings a song. What a groovy ride. We get off at the next stop, says Pete's mom. Tootoo! Pete looks out the window and sees Grandma. Pete is the first one off the train. Pete's grandma gives him a big hug. It feels good.
