Before we get into the story, do you want to know a fun fact? Did you know that roosters can tell when the sun is about to rise to start a new day? Their internal clock or a feeling they have inside of them can sense the sunrise and they will know to alert the others in the chicken coop. This daily routine will usually lead to the rooster being the first one out of the coop to check for predators
Starting point is 00:00:46 and to let the rest of the flock know it is safe to get up and start their day. Pretty cool, huh? Okay, story time. Today we are going to read Meow said the Cow by Emma Dodd. Early one morning, Cat was sleeping, dreaming of hunting, stalking, and leaping, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, come! This farm is too noisy, yawned the cat, something needs to be done about that. Cat thought for a while and came up with a trick, for he loved casting spells and doing magic. When the sun rose next morning, all pink and red, rooster as usual, threw back his head. He puffed out his chest and opened his beak and out came the tiniest. Squeak, squeak!
Starting point is 00:01:58 Aha, thought the cat, with a sly little smirk, it seems that my spells are beginning to work. Pig woke next and started yawning, wanting his food as he did every month. morning. He stretched his legs and rolled in the muck, then greedily grunted, cluck, cluck, cluck! The hens got up and peered around. Who was making that clucking sound? It seemed to be coming from the sty. Oink, oink, oink, they cried and replied. Out in the field there was more mischief from cat. The sheep were all barking, running this way in that. Sheep dog was muddled. It seemed so bizarre. His wolf had gone missing. All he could say was bah. Meow, said the cow. Meow! Meow! What has that cat been up to now? The horse was quacking,
Starting point is 00:03:04 the ducks were neighing. No one quite knew what they were saying. Cat's clever plan had gotten out of hand. The animal were louder than a big grass band, so he crept away for a tasty snack, a mouse or two from the old haystack. By now, the animals all could tell that cat was behind this beastly spell. They were all feeling a little bit cross. It is time to show that cat whose boss.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Suddenly, there was a deafening moo. Cat was in trouble, that much he knew. Then all of the animals, the small and the big, the mice and the hens, the clucking pig, the sheep and the ducks, dog cat and horse, and squeaking rooster too, of course, chased that cat right through the barn, across the yard and out of the farm. Woof, bah, moo, cluck, squeak, meow, give us back our voices now. What a noise they made a cacophony as they chased the cat up the apple tree. There really was an awful din.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Okay, said cat, you win, you win. But you must admit, you had some fun. With a flick of his tail, the spells were undone. All that is, except for one. Now, every morning, it's true. cat instead who opens his mouth and throws back his head. Caca doodle do! Well, laugh the animals, that'll teach you.
Starting point is 00:04:54 The end. Don't forget to stick around to see if you can answer today's paying attention question. Before you go, do you think you can answer today's paying attention question? The morning after the cat did his magical spell, the rooster did not make his usual cockadoodle-doo sound. Do you remember what sound the rooster made instead? If your answer was squeak, squeak! You sure were paying attention!
Starting point is 00:05:52 I hope you enjoyed that story! I wonder what we're going to read next!
