Before we get into the story, do you want to know a fun fact? Did you know that seaweed is like a plant that grows underwater in the ocean? It comes in many different colors, shapes, and sizes, just like plants on land, And seaweed uses sunlight to make its food. Some types of seaweed are small and look like grass, while others can be big and leafy. Seweed is super important for underwater environments and provides a home for many sea creatures. Pretty cool, huh?
Starting point is 00:00:58 Okay, story time! Today we are going to read Mermaid Day by Diana Murray. May Day. Beneath the waves that splish and splash, the Mur Queen throws a great big bash. She decorates with seaweed bows and seashell garlands hung in rows. And thanks to sea snails on the scene, the castles never looked so clean. Creak! The tall gate opens wide
Starting point is 00:01:45 and all her mur friends swim inside. The Mur Queen welcomes every guest and leads them to her treasure chest. Some necklaces or sparkling rings? Mermaids love bright, shiny things. Dressed up in their favorite bling, the mermaid strum there in harps and sing. Hooray, hooray, it's mermaid day. Shake your tailfin, splash, and play!
Starting point is 00:02:16 The gray whale hums as turtles drum. Their song rings out, and more guests come. The angler fish and jellies glow as fairy fish put on a show, and trumpet fish play happy tunes, while puffer fish float like balloons. Creatures of all kinds appear. The streamers of all kinds appear. The streamers fly the mermaids cheer they dance with dolphins twirl and glide then take a magic sea horse ride and tossing rings is so much fun when narwhals try to catch each one but who's that peaking from the dark is that a shark fish swim left and right but mermaids know this shark won't bite. He's just too shy to come and dance. They hold his fin. Now here's his chance. He boogie-woogies, spins and grooves. That shark's got some fin-tastic moves.
Starting point is 00:03:30 The mermaids strum and sing their song as dolphins click-clack squeak along. It's mermaid day. Shake your tail fins, splash and play. Diving mermaids, Swish, swish, catch a sea star, make a wish. Bubbles popping one, two, three, mermaid magic fills the sea. After singing, loud and proud, it's time to feed the hungry crowd. It wouldn't feel like mermaid day
Starting point is 00:04:02 without a merveless buffet. The seaweed tea is warm and sweet, and plankton cakes are such a treat. The moonlight shines, the tide is high, The mermaids yawn and wave goodbye. The sleepy murqueen thanks each guest. Her weary tail could use some rest. The guests swim back to cozy caves and kelp beds rocked beneath the waves.
